Doesn’t really matter. You will either stop playing or keep playing. They have already made the decision that it will not impact them negatively finacially. Thier hope is that it will bring in more people, keep some people who would have left from leaving, and that will offset those that leave.
I am sure they knew that there would be a level of dissent. I am sure they surmised that they would lose players. I am sure they took all this into account and decided that the ones they throw under the bus would not impact thier bottomline as much as sticking to thier original plan.
If you are disappointed and quit, they don’t really care, you have already been factored in and accounted for.
How can dungeon gear be obsolete when they are basically skins?
Some folks use them for end armor, instead of crafting or buying a perfect set.
Well they have said no, but they have said no before. Your guess is as good as mine.
Which is : “NO – not unless the population of the game has declined to a point where adding better gear becomes necessary, which is very slim.”
Sure, I believe it. Honest I do.
“Our goal is not to create a gear treadmill. Our goal is to ensure we have a proper progression for players from exotic up to legendary without a massive jump in reward between the two. We will slowly add the remaining ascended gear items and legendary items in future updates to allow people time to acquire them as we add exciting new content that deserves exciting rewards. We will not be adding a new tier of gear every 3 months that we expect everyone to chase after and then get the next set and so on.”
Read this and stop complaining, they did it only to put a little progression between exotics and legendary, they are not going to put a gear progression and they are not going to put more tiers, they just want to make sure that between exotic and legendary there is another tier that fill the gap between them, that’s all
What GAP pray tell?
New gear has better stats (no matter how small) – current exotic weapons have the same stats as the current implementation of legendary weapons.
So what GAP?I’m ending it here, but if you have the time just read through the last 5-10 pages of this thread and there’s plenty of evidence and good arguments that we’re facing a gear-treadmill (you can call it ‘little by little progression’ if you like ok).
Like being a little pregnant.
I haven’t even finished getting my exotic gear.
My family and I chose this game because it was supposed to be casual. If it does become a gear grind, it will be more work than it’s worth to us.
I have spent a LOT of money in the cash shop because I am such a casual player and don’t have time to grind for gold. I won’t spend anymore if I have to keep doing it just to keep up.
But you wont, they swear it this time…….honest.
Well I have obviously halted my gear acqusition. Now it will just be a waiting game for each piece of ascended.
Did anyone here follow the ME3 ending fiasco? This is like deja’ vu
People fear power creep because the whole reason why this game was lauded by folks was because it was BTP and you could leave and come back in a few months and your gear would be good enough to face any of the content.
Power creep forces you to continually play, or play catch up every time you come back from hiatus.
Well they have said no, but they have said no before. Your guess is as good as mine.
So you want the game mechanics to discourage one playstyle that you don’t like in favor of the playstyle that you do like?
Or am I reading this wrong.
WvW’ers are the red headed step children of GW2.
I’ve never seen so much crying over something that is going to be GOOD for Guild Wars 2 in the long-run. Many of you are like children who don’t want to take your medicine because you think it will taste icky. It makes the game healthier. You might even like it.
But if you HATE it so much with all your blind passion, then go play another game.
Huge props to the development team who know how to keep things interesting.
If many people do exactly what you have dared them to do, then you may end up having problems finding groups to do your new content with as time goes by. Personally, I could care less about a pve dungeon, I wvw. If it effects wvw in a negative way, then I will leave. That includes the population drying up, because population impacts WvW harder than other aspects of the game.
Then this is the first step to earning it back. Go on record saying in no uncertain terms “ascended is the highest armor tier and will always be.” A statement that’s concrete and measurable will inspire more confidence than PR-speak.
They already said that about exotic, so I ask again….who is going to believe them?
I used to think forums really didn’t mean that much , or make that much of a difference, until i watched Bioware squirm under the pressure of the mass effect fanbase.
Who would believe them after this?
WvW I wuvs it.
Like we really needed another one of these threads..
Do we not? They abandoned their vision for the game and lied to players. All of this criticism is a predictable response.
Are there not like thousand threads about same thing? Why make another one.
first time on a gaming forum?
Quitting + getting a refund is essentially boycotting.
OMG, stop it.
You’re not getting a refund after playing the game for hundreds of hours.
Good lord.
I think you can get a refund in the EU up to six months.
Glad you arer happy
If it becomes a must have for wvw, i’ll make my decision then. More than likely my guild will just power rofl stomp the dungeons to get the gear, if it becomes necessary, because we really really love wvw.
I have never played on a pve server in any game that had pvp servers as a choice. Pve is predictable and therefore not fun for me. When i square up against people in pvp I have no idea what I am about to experience, and that makes pvp glorious. IMO.
They are going to mold the game around what brings in the most revenue, no matter what they promised. If they feel gear progression is preferred by more people that buy gems than static gear and cosmetic carrots, that is what they will do. they are first and foremost a business.
If they honestly thought that this change in direction would lead to a drop off in revenue , it would never have made it past the brainstorming phase.
When a topic gets 95 pages of “discussion” in a few hours on a board that normally supports topics to about 4 pages on average….it’s a really big deal.
Is it still pointless to WvW? Meaning, no actual progression? Or just ole alterac valley battleground instance over and over each week?
Can we see kill spam yet? Can we see players names? Is there a way to advance your character in WvW?
Or is it just a battleground amusement park still ?
You need to find another game.
If your realm can not field the people it needs to compete in the tier you are in, you don’t belong there. Do you really want to know you beat another server because you had a handicap?
https://d2vn94glaxzkz3.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/Ascended-EN.png
Ascended:
+50 power
+50Precision
+10% Magic Find
+18 Power
+18 PrecisionUnused Infusion slot which ONLY gives you a defensive stat which is ONLY useful against the agony condition which ONLY appears in the high-end levels of the enw dungeon
Exotic:
+48 power
+48 Precision
+7% Magic Find
+15 Power
+15 PrecisionThat’s a TOTAL increase of +5 power, + 5 precision, and +3% magic find. And it’s only available on two pieces. And they’re only going to be made available one slot at a time.
Take a deep breath, calm down. Your exotics are not worthless. Your exotics did not take all that much effort to get in the first place, and it won’t take much effort at all to get this new piece. And this new piece ONLY provides a meaningful upgrade if you plan on playing the HIGHEST END content of ONE dungeon.
I love you guys but you need to chill the kitten out.
Where does it end?
I’m all for Arenanet doing things to make people happy, I like a populated game. But not when making some people happy messes with my style of game play, which is WvW. If they change WvW to the sPvP system of gear equalization I’ll shut up and go away happy.
would be soooo freaking simple:
WvW is pvp, so just apply the same rules as for spvp.
Equal gear, equal traits… and no pve gear progression could ever cause imbalance in this game’s pvp.Let me go ahead and guess that on many occasions you have bursted down an undergeared lvl 10 in a few seconds in WvW. I bet you even had fun doing it, but god forbid someone have an extra 5 precision and 5 power than you right?
but where does it end? How long before they trickle in enough extra stat points to where it does make a difference? You think people are lamenting a couple extra stat points, when what they are really worried about is where will it stop.
Please tell me what do you think about the end game pve, guys? Does it really satisfy you to grind Plinx and other dynamic events all the time? Is running dungeons for the same gear, what you can buy or craft, is the answer? Oh yeah you can do it for the looks, but come on…
As I read the news about the patch, I became really excited, because a minor gear progression will be available – an incentive to do dungeons. The end game will become interesting, as you have to beat mobs, bosses, the whole dungeon to get better gear, therefore making progression and create a stronger character, which, in my opinion, is what end game should be about. An MMO is about making your character better and better to beat the upcoming content. As things stand currently, you reach lvl 80 and you can get a full exotic (end game) gear in no time. This made a lot of players to quit, because they can’t do anything else, there is no GOAL in the game anymore. That’s where the problem lies, and now Anet is heading into the right direction, in my opinion, with introducing this method. ( I don’t want to come up with WoW, but if it isn’t for their end game raids and gear progression, the game would be pretty much dead now.)
This is why I can’t understand the rage about it. Do you really want to continue farming events for gold, and get a different looking armor, or go into a dungeon with your mates and fight for a better gear and feel good about it? Furthermore, they are introducing this whole system in pieces, which is really a sensible thing to do now. You get the back item and the rings now, and in later major updates we will be able to get more. Most importantly, it will be worthwhile to do dungeons and a lot of players will have an incentive to log in again and play with the game.
Finally, I’m sad that the community is flaming about it like no tomorrow. You don’t know yet, what will it be, but you immediately start writing whine posts and saying things like this is the end of gw2… :/ Just be patient, and you will realize that, in fact, it’s a good thing.
Just my two cents, and /heavy flamesuit on :P
People are upset because it goes against what they were promised. If a company makes a promise that is factored into your decision to buy a product, and then they go back on thier promise, even a little bit, it upsets people. Not necessarily because of the tiny amount of progression, but because of the fact that they do not know where it will end.
say i’m a busy person that plays a couple hours a week. I have money, so i bought gems to trade for gold, so i could get the best armor (statwise) so I could compete on an equal level. The devs said when i bought it that (statwise) i would never have to worry about upgrading again.
You see where changing this can become a problem.
To sumerize, I don’t think people are really to bent out of shape about the extra couple of stat points, as much as they are worried about where it will end.
As long as it does not effect wvw , I don’t care. I do understand people’s apprehensions though. Does it stop here? who knows. That is what is causing all the apprehension.
Lol @ the forums again this week.
T1 is in a sad state. What a disappointment it will be for whoever replaces us next week.
Before we got to T1, I was hyped up for the challenge of facing what was believed to be the 2 best servers and thus, the best competition. Now, in the 3rd week, it is obvious this is not the case.SBI – You aren’t winning because of superior tactics, better or more skilled players, or better leadership. Your zerg is just bigger than everyone else’s. An entire server basically riding the coattails of their 1 big pvp guild WM, and the fact they are the only server with any major oceanic presence. You’ve got people on your server who come to the forums bragging that their 30 man force drove back our 10 man force. Well, I’d certainly hope your 30 man squad could handle a whole 10 people, otherwise that would say a lot about the level of skill you possess. BG is basically fielding teams on BGBL and EBG. We have less than 20 people on JQBL or SBIBL at any given time, but these are the places you always hear about “SBI steamrolling BG”.
SBI also has the vast majority of the bandwagon WvW guilds that used to be on BG. Its been pretty obvious in the fights during NA primetime. So yeah, all those people you spent the first 2 weeks insulting..? Thats right, they’re on your server now.JQ – If your leaders were even semi-intelligent, you all would be pushing hard against SBI, as the only way you all can come in first place this week is by denying them points. But this will not happen. JQ will once again put in minimal effort for the rest of the week to come in 2nd place, because fighting SBI (and I quote JQ players here) would be “too hard”. Thats a great attitude to have in a competitive setting.
So yes, enjoy your stay in T1, whoever is next in line for it. Any effort you put into siege during the day will be for nothing as SBI’s korean presence will easily snatch up anything your skeleton crew is trying to defend. Thats not demoralizing at all. Putting time and effort into taking over a map for hours just to have all your effort go to waste when you have to go to sleep. Then all of their NA players will rush to the forums to take credit for something they had nothing to do with. As for JQ, well, dont pay much attention to them. They’re only fighting to stay in T1, not for first place.
Actually, if SoS does move up this next week, they have excellent coverage most all the time. They are aggressive and strategic. Yes, they irritate me to no end, but it does not take away from the fact that I think they will give tier 1 a good go.
I also believe that if BG drops down to tier 2 , we will have our work cut out for us.
Divide and conquer.
Deception and misdirection.
big force/small force.
Pressure and starvation
i’ve seen all these work at different times.
Look at the map. Learn to read the map. Watch for patterns. Anticipate enemy stradegy and movement by studying the map and making corelletions. If you can figure out enemy movement by watching the map, you can be in towers when they attack, and you will rake in the badges.
IMO the map is the best spy in the game. It’s a game within a game. It can be used to counter strats and decieve enemies.
I think folks are more concerned about where it’s going to stop , then they are with the new gear. I understand that just because they are doing this once, does not mean they will do it again, but it also doesn’t mean they won’t.
Perhaps an spvp map with no objectives, just obsticles and such. You could score by how much damage you do multiplied by how long you stay alive. You would have a little ball above your head that fills the more damage you do between deaths, so the better you are at surviving , the more of a target you become. Someone with a full ball would be worth much more than someone with an empty ball.
15 minute time limit, no score cap.
Pure pvp madness.
I think a lot of people are afraid of the precident it is setting, much more than the actual stats of the gear. When some people see something like this they think…where will it stop?
I hear mishi will hire out to destroy siege…anywhere…anytime.
I am getting sick and tired of all you players rolling away from my burst skills. Quit freeking playing the game correctly so I can get a few badges for crissakes.
I swear , skill is ruining the game for me.
It’s your choice, either, or, both. Thats the beauty of it.
You guys think blackgate will trade spots with SoS next week?
Put yourself in ET’s shoes. The free transfers ruined them. The ranking system set them against overwhelming odds for weeks. They will eventually settle into the tier where they belong. That is the place where you should judge them.
I’ve witnessed TC get wtf steamrolled, it never crossed my mind to belittle, or judge them. I just figured they didn’t have the coverage to compete.
Keep your pride ET.
after an epic keep push
With the way you guys are progressing, we may end up against BG next cycle. Your success is irritating to me :p but it is just that, success. You have the organization and coverage to compete in tier 1, Sor is where we should be at this point. Not a bad thing, mind you, just the way it is.
I enjoy the fights late night CMT, and I have improved fighting against both SoS and IOJ. The only thing i really fear now is another stint in tier three.
See you on the field.
I kill in wvw because it’s fun, and I know if I am in full exotics and i get beat, it was because the player who beat me was better. I then work on my skill for the next possible meeting.
The recognition I desire most from wvw is respect from my peers, and fear from my enemies. I am not there yet, but I am working on it, and adding a gear grind to that would just get in the way. The best thing about static gear, is skill is much easier to measure.
My opinion.
Anyone can use them to the same effect. The only way this would not be balanced is if only one server could field mesmers.
Culling is a problem for a lot of abilities, hopefully this will get worked out over time.
Just play spvp.
You make your own WvW experience.
What’s really interesting about this matchup is that each server has it’s own peak time. Not just one, but three! For IoJ our strongest is our oceanic/korean/etc so for us late-night NA players it becomes a game of “dusk till dawn” or “survive the night” etc etc. It’s real exciting, less of a “well soon as we go to bed this is all gone” and more of a "we just need to survive UNTIL bed then our cleanup crew can log in. And each server has their own version of this, so it’s a real thrill all the time now.
Ioj is a tough server. No two ways about it.
It requires you to think about how to engage, your chances of success, and the ramifications of not coming to the proper conclusion.
You would have hated the original everquest.
Yah so anyway, moving servers for the week was a really stupid idea. They’ve thrown in the towel for the week and we’re like the only 3 people on the map.
Can’t wait to comeback!
You are fairly wishy washy aren’t you. Didn’t you just disrespect the entire SoR server on another thread, and say you were thinking about not coming back?
Having spent the entire week playing on Gunnar’s Hold with a few friends, I noticed something that really astonished me.
Gunnar’s Hold is a Tier 6 European server, we came from Sanctum of Rall a Tier 2 US server. Yet I will say that the average player on GH is significantly better than the average player on SoR.
I have to imagine it’s because you guys are a lower pop server with a numbers disadvantage that you’ve had to develope skill in order to survive, but you’re not going to find that same skill level on the more populated US servers. We can’t get people on Teamspeak or Mumble, we can’t get them to carry supply, we can’t get them to build siege, they just want to hack on walls with swords.
I really think a week from now you’re going to want to transfer back. I know we are considering staying here.
You just made a sweeping generalization about a lot of really good folk from the SoR server.
