The rampaging beast is probably the one in Gendarran, I’d say. Its always bothered me that the notice is up about Ascalon Settlement being “rampaged” but when I get there the populace is happy as Larry.

Housing system please?

in Suggestions

Posted by: zenleto.6179

zenleto.6179

Are you asking if we currently can or if ANet can add this at some time?
If currently can, then no. We can not.
If they can add it later, maybe. Depends if they add player housing at some time.

IIRC Anet said they were more interested in making the home instance change over what choices you made in the personal story.

Strangely enough, no-body cares what effect it will have on their home instance…since people are way, way more invested in making a home instance or home zone that they have freedom of creation in.

They did say before the game was released that player housing was a possible feature that might do.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Upcoming_changes_and_features
Housing: Guild halls and player housing in their home instance.

So, who knows. Maybe one day.

I haven’t been back to my home instance since I did area completion in the cities. At this point it’s a failed concept imo. At least with the Hall of Monuments in gw1 you were able to update that with tapestries, armor, minipets, weapons, and statues. The personal instance in gw2 is impersonal.

I went back to a home instance belonging to one of my older characters recently and was surprised to find it looking like a Priory library. There wasn’t much to do there though. Have to agree on the failed concept.

Ascalonian Reclamation

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

That’s not how things work in civilized societies. If the right to ownership was determined by might alone the strong would own everything and the weak would own nothing. “You have a nice house. You’d better hope you can beat me in a fight, otherwise it’s going to be my house.”

We’re not talking about on a personal scale, but that of governments and nations.

And that is almost exactly how it works in “civilised lands”… take America for example. European settlers arrived, and promptly killed, converted or integrated the local population and took over administration of their land. (Application of force 1)

Later, the war of independence arose, and colonists took the land away from the British and formed their own republic. (Application of force 2). In turn there was the American civil war, where the South wanted to cede from the republic, and were basically beaten into submission (Application of force 3).

So, tell me – if that’s not how civilised countries set their borders, shouldn’t the folks in the US be giving back that land right about now?

Like I say, people in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones and if you’re reading this in a first world country; you’re living in a glass house, because you are the charr

I’m pretty sure darkace was talking about now , not colonial times.

All things have a right to grow.

Except those Centaur. Centaur don’t have a right to grow.

LOL at this.

I’m surprised Anet went that way with it, haven’t met a cool centaur in GW2 yet (R.i.p Zhed Shadowhoof). And that quote made it all the more ironic since it’s part of Ventari’s (a centaur) teachings.

The one in the Norn brawl storyline seems a bit o fun. A bit of obvious personality does wonders.

The New Cutscenes

Posted by: zenleto.6179

I think Erasculio has a valid point.

While I did love the cut scene (I thought it was extremely well done), I don’t “feel” my characters as much in Guild Wars 2 as I do in Guild Wars 1. I started wondering why that might be.

In Guild Wars 1, I could repeat cut scenes with my character in it, and in fact, did so every time I did a mission. It was me standing there talking to Prince Rurik or being blocked by a minion who was attacking Togo. lol But it was still me.

If we appeared in some of these scenes, and if we could repeat certain scenes, I’d feel more attached to my characters. The way Guild Wars 2 is set up now, I’m not nearly as attached to my characters as I was in Guild Wars 1.

Maybe but I’m not bothered by it. I like my characters so much I could sit around and have beers with them if they were real. Though the drunken boasting would get a bit much. I don’t feel they need to be seen in every cut scene, they’re there observing.

(I need to get a life!)

The New Cutscenes

in Dragon Bash

Nope, those cinematics are bad.

For the records, this is a good example of how the opinions of players are more often than not misleading. It’s very easy to see the new cinematic system and think “ooooh, shiny!” and go gushing all over it.

There is a huge, critical flaw in them, though: they do not work with our characters. They require premade images showing premade characters, and cannot be adapted as they are to work with variable characters (aka, the PC characters).

So if you people want ArenaNet to keep using them… This means making stories about the NPCs, not about our characters. As if watching Traheanne’s rise to glory wasn’t enough, do you really want to see more stories in which our characters are only footnotes?

This kind of cinematic isn’t even that new to the game – the opening cinematic immediately after character creation uses a much smoother combination of concept art and in-game graphics, in a way that actually can show our characters as a part of the story. Too bad that ArenaNet can’t do much more of that, given how many of the artists involved have left the company.

Boooo!

And yes to everything else. I nearly fell out of my chair when the Dead End scene started. I’m a sucker for that sort of stuff.

(No offense Erasculio)

zenleto.6179

The OP said, and I quote:

“Looks like they forgot about the “Multiplayer” aspect of MMO.”

In order for Anet to have forgotten about it, they have to not done it more than once. Surely this is an overstatement of how often they forget about the multiplayer aspect, since they’ve had the muliplayer aspect in both of the living stories before this.

1) he then went on to explain what that statement meant. Taking him out of context doesn’t make your argument less of a strawman. You are either purposefully putting words into his mouth, or are unintentionally reading more into what was said than is actually there.

2) You don’t have to neglect to do something more than once in order for it to have been forgotten. The very first time you failed to remember to send in the rent check, even if you never made that mistake again, it was an example of having forgotten something.

It is Vayne, so your efforts are sadly wasted. Him and a few others makes me wonder what happened to the ignore “functionality” in this forum (it was present in a non-functional state at launch but later vanished).

If there was an ignore function I wouldn’t have anything to read! I’d have to hunt down Springer reruns instead.

It has pulled me away from World of Warcraft, and others away from all their MMO’s, but at the rate it is going now, it won’t even get the chance to really succeed.

That fact that you’ve been pulled away from another game, and so have other people, already makes this one a success. To a degree.

Also, that you’re here to try and push them to better their efforts is also a success, to a degree. You are still here and want more.

I really hope they can get to some sort of diamond-crusted, platinum-dusted success level. That would be pretty awesome. But they aren’t doing too bad now. Yes, they can do better.

The hate for talent

zenleto.6179

…id say that 100% of the praise i have recieved from being skilled has never come from me telling someone, its because they either instanced with me and wanted to add me or dueled me in wvw

This comment in conjunction with my own experiences in game (not saying I’m skilled, I mean when I play with people who are clearly more skilled than I) reinforces my opinion that there isn’t rampant “talent hate” in this community.

If I’m in Arah and my group nearly wipes on Lupi in P3, but we have one guy who stays up, handles Lupi’s aggro, and gets someone else up and we recover, I recognize that he needed skill to do that and I appreciate him for it.

Same in WvW when following a skilled commander.

I just don’t see where this idea that people dislike skilled players comes from, so it’s easiest to assume that your experiences are coming from players picking up on an attitude from you that you are more skilled than they are. You may not have that attitude, and I may be wrong. But in that case please explain what your experiences are that led you to post this, because the points you’ve made so far don’t resonate with me at all.

Why should players feel bad about the fact that some players are better than them?

The question should be “Why do some players…”

Not everyone is secure enough in themselves to handle being around being around those who have greater talent or knowledge or whatever. It’s just more thing that makes people individuals.

i dont think anyone is understanding the OP’s point,
he is referring to the skill that you compare with fellow challenge seekers, healthy competition likewise,
i do the same thing, if im friendly with someone and ive skyped them before ill teae them about something they dont have, its what makes you want to get unique items, it all links,
He is NOT refferring to going up to new players and laughing in theyre facing because they are still coming to terms with the game.
Read before commenting or you just look ignorant

Then he shouldn’t have lead with ‘go into LA and say you’re a good player’ and see what happens. Of course, you’re going to get jumped on. It’s not that people aren’t, or don’t want to be, aware that they are other, more skilled players than them in the game. It’s that they dont necessarily want it rubbed in their face. Only kittenholes do that, and walking into a town and announcing ’I’m a good player’ is going to precieved as exactly that.

Perhaps it was a bad example, but that’s precisely what I got from the initial post.

C’mon all, it’s pretty simple. You have a mini-pet (helmed moa racer) that’s effectively being sold for in game gold, and that value has a luck factor tied to it. If you’re doing it to make gold, well, you’re not going to. If you’re doing it for the mini-pet then you’re doing it right.

I’m only going to chip away at it for the achievement. The pet isn’t for me.
