This seems to be the inevitable conclusion when you design your Dynamic Event system around “Everyone who shows up wins a gold medal.”
Those mechanics work well for a certain, infamous kind of Olympics. Not so much an online RPG that encourages you to tweak your character and gear, and strategize intelligently around a wide variety of encounters.
Perhaps its time to rethink what “participation” truly entails.
It’s a bit more complicated than that, if you consider scaling. Maw, for instance, is level 12 content. As it is today, a level 12, with level 12 skills, stands a good chance of bronze at best, even trying to participate in the horde of camped 80s. If you put a participation threshold based upon damage, kills, whatever.. these players will be gated even more.
Contrast to Svanir’s dome, where appropriate level players actually have to work a bit to take down a much harder, mobile boss, for.. a pat on the head and a pittance event reward. Few high level players bother, no chest. Lots of participation for nothing.
Effort has little to do with rewards in GW2.
Yep absolutely.
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
Bad.
Gem Store was meant to offer items which do not advantage players who can pay.
Now welcome to the pay to win!
It’s just a mining pick. Where’s the advantage over other players? It’s not going to make a CoF run faster, or survive krait bombs easier. Just because a character is not going to need to buy regular picks anymore doesn’t mean its a game winner.

I am, admittedly, a bit surprised. I never realized that gear progression could be viewed so negatively. I see how you are looking at it – but hopefully you can respect another point of view.
We think of gear progression as a good thing. I guess the difference then comes down to a capitalistic vs communistic game design philosophy. Said differently some want a game that reward their players with better possessions and items based on their achievements, hard work, dedication and comittment.
The same game, I guess, can be seen as elitist, requiring it players to work in order to get something that people feel should be communal and given to all freely.
And I don’t see GW2 at lvl 80 as a sandbox.. Once a player has exotic gear, map completion and a legendary what is there to do? Honestly, we can’t figure it out.
The problem is that many players game from Guild Wars 1, like me, and are in fact fans of that game. You maxed out your gear very early in Guild Wars 1 and NEVER got better gear after that. In fact. if you maxed out your gear in Prophecies, the first game, you never had to upgrade your gear again in any of the other three Guild Wars 1 games.
It made for better gaming in my opinion.
In Guild Wars 2, when ascended gear was introduced, a decent portion of the population actually walked away from Guild Wars 2. I don’t think Anet is willing to open this can of worms again.
Now I understand what all the moaning about Ascended gear is all about. I started after it was introduced so it’s always been in the game for me. That’s a bit of a shame really.

What a mean hearted bunch of jerks on your server. Have you thought about a server change? And yeah, a decent guild would make the world of difference.

yeah.. if people are buying it, more likely for convenience . if people are buying it for long term saving, then you should attend maths class…..
I bought it for theme.
ah ok…. good for you. yeah like i said if people are buying it, it should be for other reason than long term saving……
Thanks

Of course some people will just jump in at the end anyway. Better rewards for those flagged as having done more of the pre-events?
They should first fix scaling for lower level events, so that everything doesn’t drop dead just from looking at them so that everyone would actually have a fair chance at getting contribution in these events. As it is right now, it’s just a mindless horde efulof people running after 2-3 mobs that die when you’ve hit them twice. It’s more of a race of who manages to get to the mob the fastest, rather ridiculous tbh.
You referencing Maw? The grawl trying to steal Tor the Tall’s supplies seem to be buffed a bit. They can take a few hits considering how many people are shooting/cutting/bludgeoning/burning them. The next part is woeful though. And as for the moas – wouldn’t mind seeing the Spirit of Moa having a random chance of appearing for a few minutes once over 50% of the birds have been slaughtered. That would make things interesting : )

I was forgetting about bank and alt slots. 18 alts so I’d say Anet has done alright out of me. Finished doing that for now so now my gems are for a rainy day (today).
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
I’ve purchased gems with cash (I don’t exchange in game gold) for those “just in case” times there’s something I want. The pick is a perfect example. There’s not really a lot in the shop yet that I want.
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
Wow…that’s complicated.
Just add meta event chains to the world event bosses that cover the entire zone. Positives: Spreads population out, gets the population involved in the zone, a better play experience for everyone including people not interested in the bosses, brings the community back together the way it should be, increases drops zone wide.
Negatives: If there isn’t a significant portion of players doing the meta events, boss never spawns.
I’m with this. It’s pretty much what you have to do to get the map boss in Harathi up. Nice long chain of constant activity with a reward at the end. More map eventing for bosses would be great.
Of course some people will just jump in at the end anyway. Better rewards for those flagged as having done more of the pre-events?
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
The only time I’ve seen krait near that wp it was because they chased players there. I’m yet to see anything spawn close to it, though there js a risen close by. If it a spawn point for anything nasty then Anet really should look at moving either the spawn point or the wp (please).

I just bought one sight unseen on the strength of the amount of forum posting about it. I knew it had to be good. Omg! The nerdgasm was intense when my fire-themed character finally ran through his normal picks and I saw it in action. The only the reason I’m not buying it for another character is the poor guy might get deleted.
Oh, and I don’t care if its soul bound on use. All my characters have individual e-souls and they don’t need to share everything.
Lol.
I match your lol. That…

I think the problem isn´t with warriors but with bad mob AI.
I wonder… what would happen if mobs wouldn´t just mindlessly stand there but …
melee mobs try to circle you
range mobs try to kite you all the time
mobs evade moreSo what would happen if mobs were constantly moving? I bet half the warriors wouldnt be able to land their 100b.
And that´s the point. Warriors are only great at faceroll content and killing stupid-AI-mobs.Just rework mob AI, don´t let them just stand there!
If I carry on this train of thought CC would also become much more viable… But that´s a whole other topic.
Centaur archers already kite you, thief pirates do encircle/evade with a poison style. One type of mob (maybe another) try and encircle. Can’t remember which one but I’m forever having to back up when I fight of group of them. Skritt maybe? It’s in the game already, just not widespread.
As for the topic, let people play how they want. People who want to spend a stack of time doing one dungeon run constantly are just doing their thing away from everyone else.
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
I love my warrior but hate farming with him. Warrior gameplay isn’t very interesting as far I’m concerned. I farm on my ranger. My warrior is tougher and hits harder but that’s only what I’d expect anyway.

I think it’s in the charr beginning video where it says they killed their gods with…something. Building, manufacturing? I think the point of it was that they moved on from deity worship.

Timmyf, I feel your pain. I don’t get narky about it though, not on map chat anyway. People don’t want to see the smartarse comments my computer screen has to hear. Troll, oak, boar, and wasp are constantly being called so people only have to wait a minute or two for something to come up.

Early months even ScottBroChill. Give it time and watch how it pans out. It may end up sucking beyond all imagining or being pretty kitten good. Some people already find it one or the other but time will tell.

Good for you for getting it off your chest!
What mmo has combat that let’s you feel like you’re hitting something? I suppose age of Conan does because there’s blood and stuff but I’m drawing a blank otherwise.
It’s a good thing it’s not ten years ago or I would have had a bit to say about your government organising everybody.
Yes, I only read the tldr. I haven’t played gw1 so I don’t feel your pain. I’ve been grossly disappointed by things before so I’m also not trivialising your post (I hope).
Screen shake options Jski? I’ll have to look for this.

I have three engineers, from 80 down to 18. I love them. They aren’t guardians or warriors but I don’t find them weak either. My lowest one doesn’t even use turrets. It’s probably just more experience with them on my part.
Keep plugging away with yours. When you get a few more traits under the engineer’s tool belt you might start seeing a difference.

The point of forums is to promote all sorts of ideas and opinions. They should neither be only a whinefest or a cheerleading rally, and they should be both.
That’s true, but ideas/opinions must be presented in a constructive manner, so as to promote further discussion. Sadly, many people post their own ideas as facts, without any basis, and then threads go downhill from there.
And there lies the Springer-esque fun of reading forums. Especially gaming ones.
:)

It’s kind of sad that it’s been ten years, and nobody has topped Shadowbane’s race selection.
Humans – dark age catholic European humans
Dwarves – forged from stone and metal by their god
Elves – evil people who want to enslave or kill everyone who isn’t like them (including the god who created them)
Irekei – the even more evil elves who worship the dragon and just want to watch the world burn
Nephilim – winged demons that can fly and shapeshift into mortals
Aracoix – A bad kitten Tengu that can fly.
Minotaur – they’re like Tauren, except not lame
Shades – Pseudo-undead humans
Vampires – they’re vampires
Centaur – half man, half horse, half chainsaw. That’s 150% son
Half giant – humans with the blood of giants in their ancestry
Aelfborn – lunatic half elves who are barely kept sane by magical tattoos that cover their bodies
I like the sound of these. I want!

You can unlock it all for nothing, just requires a bit of work. Or a lot of work.
Anyway, this is very off topic.

I think of charr more like gnolls, to the point I even named one Gnoll Steakcutter. Anyone play DDO? The Black Citadel is reminiscent of the Burning City, though a hell of a lot prettier, and the Burning City was a dungeon.
Is DDO any good? Always wanted to try it, but Eberon (or however it’s spelled) was kind of a turn off. Whenever I see the Citadel I always think “Death Star”.
If you want to see REAL greed in a cash shop,. play DDO. What a P2W piece of garbage. The original game was quite okay, but the company is mega greedy. Anyone who plays that game and doesn’t fork out lots of money won’t be playing for long. Turbine is a bad, bad company. They should not be allowed to get involved with an MMO.
Lol Vayne, it’s not that bad. But it does have a different feel to Anet’s shop. Greedier? Possibly but I haven’t really compared the two. I spent a fair bit of money on it though…

I still have my account open though I haven’t been back since I started playing this. I suffered some sort of horrible lag problem. That said, I really enjoy it otherwise. I love the gameplay and the multiclassing. Plenty of soloing, plenty of grouping. Elves…
Lots of people like it and lots of people don’t. It’s been through the same sort of forum arguments that GW2 is going through. Probably still is.
F2p if you want to try it out.

15Charrs
Who are these 15 Charrs that people keep referring to? And how do I find them? Do they have names?
In certain branches of Jewish folklore, there are stories about the Tzaddikim Nistari (hidden righteous ones), or Lamed-Vav Tzaddikim (thirty six righteous ones), allegedly 36 people of such exceptional righteousness that their presence is vital to the continued existence of the world. They are hidden, in the sense that even they may be unaware of their status, but it is because of their excellence that God preserves the world even in spite of how awful all the rest of may be.
Kinda sounds like the TV Show “Touch”. So you’re saying these “15 Charr” are the ones who bring balance to the forums?
I think that it’s the most entertaining available interpretation, and therefore the one I choose to believe. Also sometimes they transform into huge baroque robot-angels with sonic prayer-cannons and beat the crap out of radioactive space lizards. This isn’t found anywhere in Jewish tradition, but maybe it should be.
If it did I’d convert in an instant.

I know you said you don’t like the thought of having to wvw on different characters but wouldn’t that actually be something to do with your 80s? Especially since you like it.
It’s just a question, not trying to start anything.

First of all I am a woman. Second, I love the fact that everyone, wanting to defend their game, do not hesitate to insult anyone else that happens to have a different opinion than theirs. If this is mature according to you and on the other hand I am the immature one, because I didn’t like the content you loved, then ..ok! That is all beyond me. Next time try to answer the concerns of a loyal (till now) fan of your game, rather than all jumping into him/her because he is not a part of your “I except whatever is given to me for free” happy group!
Wow, get a grip. What you’re seeing here is the same stuff that can be found on any gaming forum. Everyone is right and nobody is wrong. You might need to grow a thicker skin. I don’t even see who this is aimed at.
And who cares if you’re a woman? This thread is about age.

I don’t see why it should be removed. It’s not a guarantee of survival, just a chance of it. Plus it can sometimes be a little thrilling – “Am I going to make? Am I going to make? Maybe just a couple more rocks…YES!”

Probably but the three days a week I have my daughter slows it down just enough to maybe not. Though I have a guardian transvestoon that she likes to see run around. She asks, I don’t do it specially!

I find the exploring comment here interesting. People shouldn’t make a checklist of stuff to explore. I agree.
So turn off your map markers and explore without them. You can you know. I didn’t play this game like a checklist, and I’m enjoying it a lot more than I would if I left those map markers on.
I’ve completed entire zones with all the map markers off. It’s far more challenging, but it’s fun for me anyway.
This is a very good idea. I don’t checklist my exploration but I reckon I’ll do this anyway.
As for the topic – I’ve only been playing since the first week of January and I’ll be hanging around for a while. I enjoy the sandbox feel. Not the same as the first incarnation of SWG but good enough.
Anybody who thinks Anet are breaking the game never played SWG.

Allisa makes a decent point here. Not everyone is suited to particular classes, for whatever reason. I can’t play a caster so save my life.
Maybe your friend should try a few classes to see what suits him better.
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
There’s nothing wrong with rangers if a player knows how to even play one half decently. The prejudice against them seems to be the same that ranged and pet classes have in nearly every mmo I’ve played. I’ve never understood it.
As for this “nerf”, I haven’t noticed any difference in playing my ranger in pve. I think the advice you were given about rolling one to help your mate is decent.
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
Good work on spending time with your girl friend.
I switch to another character when I feel I need a change and go revisit different content. It’s a good as a holiday.
Maybe you just need to take a little break from the game? You could come back fresher with a few more ideas.
Edit: I agree with Allisa’s second post.
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
Tell him to keep his gear as close to level as he can. Tell him to practice dodge. Tell him to study his trait lines to see where he might want to go as he progresses. Or “suggest”, or “casually enquire” about his gear. It’s more important for some classes at start than others it seems.
Maybe don’t even babysit him, just group with him.
As for your own class choose whatever you like. I wouldn’t discount warrior for what you plan on using it for.

Uhm I don’t think the grawl attacking the camp is the first event in the chain. You need to clear out the grawl place with the marks on the walls and sacrificial offerings at the heart of corruption PoI to start the grawl attacking the camp.
Unless it happens to be a coincidence that every time I solo clean out that area, the grawl camp pre-event gets triggered.
I tried this a couple of hours ago and the same thing happened. I wasn’t sure if I’d triggered it or it was coincidental.
