I think that the gems are very expensive for what you receive back for them. It cost me the price of the game again, just for a few bit of digital nonsense.

They do give you the option to pay with (lots of) ingame gold.

we have GM’s that literally just sit there and watch “velocity reports” (named as such due to the speed of the reports being made). As you might guess there are generally a significant amount of these reports happening at any given moment and due to this we cannot respond to them.

If you’re advertising an opening, consider this my application.

Thanks Anet for ignoring our feedback and continuing to roll out the thing that none of us want…

Or maybe the feedback asking for fuller maps was significantly bigger than feedback asking for quieter ones. Probably even more than the feedback asking for empty maps because some computers can’t handle it.

What’s the point in a fuller map, if the Megaserver decides you’re going to one where everyone speaks a language you do not?

You know, like how the different languages of Europe picked out different servers to play on, with people who speak their language?

Only now you might be a Spanish speaker on a map that speaks French, or an English speaker on a German speaking map, or a French person on a map that speaks Lithuanian.

Obviously the language mess isn’t how it was intended to work – they actually stated the opposite.

The concerns being expressed are that ArenaNet continues to roll out Megaservers into new zones without addressing the obvious bugs in the system. Anyone with some common sense should realize that the language issue shouldn’t be happening. But it IS right now and ArenaNet hasn’t responded to the issue, nor are they halting their rollout of the system into new zones. When they announced changes to the rollout plan, the expectation was that they would add the megaserver to those select few locations, gather feedback, and fix errors in the system before then applying it to the rest of the world. What they’ve actually done is continue to add zones to the system before the errors are fixed.

I see your point. I don’t know, however, what the “new” zones are. It was implemented less than 48h ago – how can you tell the initial zones from the newly added ones? Honestly, every zone I was at yesterday had people from every server (I had a lot of fun asking where they were from in map chat actually). If they told me the system had been fully deployed in all maps I would have believed them.

Most importantly, there’s no doubt that they are aware of the issue. Posts about it have been moved here and deleted, so we know they noticed them. I’m sure we’ll see a fix or an announcement sometime soon.

http://www.guildwars2guru.com/news/1450-megaserver-status-update/

That post is keeping track of Zones as they’re being added. The ones in bold on the first list were added slightly after the initial implementation. From there on, they (the poster for that thread) are listing newly added ones by “round”.

I see. Thanks for the link.
I guess I don’t understand why they’d keep adding zones when the language problems were there in the first batch. Maybe to test the performance of other features of the system while working on the language issue in the background.

Anyway I’m sure they’re not purposely punishing the players, and that something will happen soon. Let’s hope something good.

Obviously the language mess isn’t how it was intended to work – they actually stated the opposite.

I’m not so sure.

They said Megaservers were supposed to prioritize people with the same language. What if there are not enough people with the same language to constitute their own map? In order to maintain full maps, it would start dumping the different languages together.

From https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/introducing-the-megaserver-system/

This new system takes your party, guild, language, home world, and other factors into account to match you to a version of the map you’re entering. This will increase the odds that you’ll see the same people more often and play with people of similar interests.

So if there are a ton of people on a given map, it will probably sort language ok. However if it is a relatively barren map, it will actually accomplish the opposite and put more people with different languages together.

I guess this is a possibility. It would be marginal, though. The amount of complains suggest that this mess is the rule, not the exception – I mean, have there been a lot of responses saying the opposite is also hapenning? Servers full with same language players? (also true that people are most vocal when displeased).

But your explanation is definitely possible.

Language is only one of the very serious problems with this system though.

- People aren’t ending up in the same instance as the rest of their guild when trying to do stuff like guild missions.

- Party’s are ending up in different instances (happened to me and my party twice last night even though we are all from the same guild, and homeworld).

- The lag is awful for anyone on a medium hardware computer. I used to be able to run at high settings with 1080p, now I run at medium with some low settings and still experience awful lag. (And if they try to fix this by decreasing the “comfort zone” of maps they will end up splitting parties and guilds even more.

- WvW/Server Identity/RP is all getting affected, and affected hard by this.

I think megaservers can work for some games, but not implementing it after the game has gone live. People chose this game for certain reasons and liked what they liked. When you change in the middle of the game’s lifecycle you anger a lot of people, and introduce a bunch of problems in the community of the MMO. I really hope that Anet has a manual option in soon. People in the modern will like free will, not everything being decided for them by some flawed algorithm.

Hence this:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Game-Updates-Guild-World-Events-Megaservers-WvW/page/5#post3915670

I made sure to say I was aware the system wasn’t perfect and that there were other legitimate problems with it. By all means let ArenaNet know about those.

How can you guys not see that this language mess is not what’s supposed to happen, and therefore will be fixed? You’re pointing it out to ArenaNet as “reasons the MegaServer sucks” when it’s just a mishap. Do you really believe the point of the system was to PURPOSELY cause this, therefore you need to tell ArenaNet that that’s not a good direction to go?

I’m not saying it’s perfect: the WvW recruitment is definitely an issue; and while I don’t care or even know what role playing in this game is, I take the RPers word that it’s a problem.
But regarding the language mixing, it’s obviously an unexpected situation and it will be dealt with. They clearly stated in the past that grouping player according to language was one of the objectives – do you think that objective suddenly changed to the opposite?

If you create something that for some reason doesn’t work, do you need people to tell you that “not working” is a terrible idea, like that was your objective to begin with?

For example: if you fall off a cliff, and your character goes head first. Smacks into the ground. And you press “R” to make him move. Your character will actually stop moving. As you were already autorunning, while laying on the ground.

So now that you know that, can’t you just not hit R again after you fall and let it resume movement naturally (single the toggle is still on)? Or won’t it run anyway after the fall?

I understand how your preference is different from how it is built, and how it might actually hinder gameplay during very specific situations. But you seem to be in the minority and it’s really a minor issue, if it can be called an issue at all. I mean, some games won’t even give you the option. Is it not a possibility for you to just adapt? Just hit W or both mouse buttons once in a while.

How does MF really works?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: zoejo.2317

zoejo.2317

It works by probability. In statistics and probability, the effects are only noticeable and close to what’s expected when the sampling is infinite (or large enough, to make it doable).

With such little samples, anything can happen and any conclusion can be drawn. If you’re not getting good loot you’re probably just a victim of chance, an outlier. Keep at it and in the long run and overall analysis the results will match your MF.

1. Do your daily achievements. Login once a day just for that if needed – those laurels are gonna come in very handy later in the game. Throw in the PVP dailies too if you can.
2. Gather every gathering node you come by – like laurels, collectibles will be crucial later on. Consider salvaging everything you don’t want or no longer need from the start too, as that’s another way to accumulate some non gatherable crafting materials.
3. Hop on an active guild with Teamspeak (or any of the other softwares that do the same thing). Connect to the people you play with, it will make the game 10x more fun. Guild wars is a complex game with a lot of layers and things to do, and unfortunately not the best at explaining some of its less traditional concepts to new players. Having someone to guide you through the mechanics is essencial not to get overwhelmed by the info and numbers.

Having this, you’re in for a lot of fun.

3. Repeat.

It’s almost paying directly for levels.

Basically, a leveling up shortcut, by means of taking levels from one character and moving them on to another?

What would happen to the first character? I assume you’d have to unequip it first since it might end up too low level for the equipment you had on it.
Will it lose skill points too? What about the ones you already used to purchase skills? And would those skills be unavailable again? Would traits reset?
Would it also keep map completion of areas above it’s post-transfer level, like Orr?

I don’t see this suggestion going through, considering there are already ways to get free levels (tomes of knowledge, 20 level scrolls, etc) and ways to get easy levels (EOTM zerg, fast dungeon runs, a variety of consumables and boosters). It’s definitely not a serious necessity.

Then again, it would be a commodity and there’s definitely enough people who don’t want to be bothered and would just rather pay. Not totally outlandish.

In the achievements panel, under General and then Explorer, there’s, for example Maguuma Explorer with the description “Explore all areas in Maguuma”. It’s clear enough, although I’m not certain what an area is. Is it the little piece of the map that becomes clear as I walk over it, giving me a little xp? The basic uncovering of the map as you go along, where before it’s just like painted over and after discovery there is detail?

If so, I’ve beem 2 areas short of completing that (and other) explorer achievement and set out to find the little patches of the map I haden’t uncovered yet. I found more than the ones it told me I was missing but the number hasn’t changed.

Tips for completing invasions

in Clockwork Chaos

Posted by: zoejo.2317

zoejo.2317

While they don’t directly contribute to event completion, I can think of a couple of tips that can be quite useful:

- I always bring two stacks of 25 salvage kits. I salvage blues on the go while walking to the next event or while I auto range attack a champion if surrounded by the zerg. I have one of those crafting bags into which the materials automatically go to, which keeps them neatly organized at the end of my inventory. At the end of every quick salvaging session, I deposit all the collectibles to keep the bag from filling up and overflowing.

- Aoe loot: I have this activated (It’s in Options) and press the key a couple of times at the end of a fight. Usually loots everything. To make sure, I press and hold control and look for the yellow “Loot bag” name. This usually garantees you missed nothing.

- To make sure you focus on the champion when he’s surrounded in a sea of trash mobs, holding control also helps. It shows the mob names and it’s easier to pick the champion directly.

- If you’re not going to follow the zerg/commander, it really helps if you find a party of like minded folks to handle an event by yourselves if you find an empty one. When I decide I’ll avoid the zerg, I often end up at events with no one and I think it’s a waste of time to wait until someone has the same idea as me. If I /map the waypoint, I risk the event getting zerged, upscaled, and therefore taking longer. Try to gather a party with your guild. It’s a lot of fun to beat events with a coordinated small party – very rewarding (and it contributes to event completion).

These have helped me so far. If I think of something else I’ll add.

So whom is having fun with this event?

As much as I’m enjoying it, though, I get tired of it after 2 or 3 invasions in a row and just wait for the next day until I do another one. That said, I’m on 12/13 which isn’t bad for an average of 2 invasions per day.

Macros? I don't see any and this isn't WoW

in Clockwork Chaos

zoejo.2317

It looks like it was made as a generic gaming keyboard and then they did a deal with Anet and re-skinned it to be GW2 themed. So the specifications are probably copied from the companies own website and within that probably copied to all keyboards with those features.

Having said that you could use macros in GW2, you’d just need to use the keyboards software to set them up instead of doing it in-game and anything other than 1:1 bindings are against the rules. Which makes a gaming keyboard a little pointless IMO.

If they’re making deals with keyboard manufacturers, I’d expect they’d at least make sure the product had indeed relevant features for GW2, not just general gaming aids (some of which don’t particularly apply to game).

I dislike this false advertising and wish ArenaNet would disapprove of it as well, in the interest of their player community, instead of associating themselves with what seems to be a poor product and decieving marketing.

Keyboard with Macro

Despite saying that one keystroke per action is allowed (which includes striking the SAME key for different actions), it also specifies “You may not program a single key to perform multiple functions.” which is what happens if you program 4 different actions on 4 sequential strokes of the same one key. It’s confusing.

It seems clear, though, that normal key binding or remapping (terms they should be using) is safe. I’d stick with that.

Macros? I don't see any and this isn't WoW

zoejo.2317

That looks like a general gaming keyboard reskinned for GW2 and being sold as specific for it. I haven’t used any macros and I’ve been playing since launch, but I’m open to the possibility of just not knowing about it…

But I still doubt about how much that keyboard really is made for this game. Why are the arrow keys included in the " 20 of the most commonly used keys" for the “Superior anti-ghosting” feature? I’ve never used those keys. Much more important for GW2 would be F1-F4, I believe.
Still on the arrow keys issue, why the two extras if we barely used the original ones?

I’m not convinced that that’s a specific GW2 oriented product, at all.
Then again, it might just be me.

I have done 11 maps plus some repeats, and I have failed only once in Seafarer’s Rest, EU. It was late in the night when it failed (around 3 to 6 am depending on the country), the other times it was always successful even in overflows. With remaining time to spare.

Banning or kicking, it doesn’t matter. You brought up reporting, we all assumed it was to enforce one of those two solutions (otherwise, why report?).

The point still stands. It brings no harm and whatever would come from reporting would be of no help regarding event completion and rewards.

It didn’t cost you the event since if they were banned/kicked for Akitteng or botting, they wouldn’t be there to help you anyway. Botting, running against walls, or reported or kicked, they’re no help to you.

That said, them being there doesn’t change your experience at all. Rewards or xp aren’t affected in any way. I say just ignore them and have a little patience because some of them are just trying to figure out what maps they still need and the game currently provides no way to know that, except for being there invasion after invasion. And who has time for that? There’s real life to attend to. This is currently the only way to do it without sacrificing your entire personal life.

You might find yourself having to do the same before you get those 13 maps.
