What to do with extra armor boxes?

in Living World

Posted by: soboard.6974

soboard.6974

Hello!

Like many people playing since launch, I have a few alts; 6 alts to be exact. I do the LS updates on every character. I reap the rewards for each character. Doing so, I unlock the armor skins for the Luminescent set fairly quickly, and am left with several extra boxes just sitting in my bank. Am I to just destroy these or can I hope for some conversion into crests or other currency in the future?

Thanks!

Peter,

Can you describe the limitations on text displays in game? Does this limit the availability of lorebooks in game that include long chapters for those interested in such things? Is it more complex than simply making a string file? This has always bugged me. I know that with the dynamic event system, Anet has striven to go away from quests with walls of text; but Im curious why this simple solution isnt added in?

Feedback/Questions: The Wardrobe System

I understand that the response to gemstore purchases and that requirement to have the item currently on a character seems to be a NO. However, these items have a proven ownership record in the form of the achievements. Hopefully this is enough of a unique situation to resolve. As I know I am not the only one to have deleted the armor to preserve space (this was before additional bank slots.)

If I have the achievements tied to the ownership of the various cultural armor sets, but no longer have the armor due to inventory space requirements; am I not still entitled to have these unlocked once the wardrobe is released? Will this sort of case be retroactively rewarded?

Any response is appreciated. I know this is a very specific case.

Right, I get credit for them. But then it doesn’t count. Do I have to do EVERY defend event that occurs for that section?

Please answer a few questions for Fort Marriner Fighter and Postern Ward Protector.

It counts for shield events only?

Do I have to be present and receive credit for EACH defend event that happens?

Should I be looking for credit AFTER the :40 min mark, or later when Magnus asks us to leave?

Please clarify all of these things, as I’ve tried every combination of each and never gotten these two. It’s really frustrating going through 45 min durations and not getting what you went in for.

Like I said, a small stretch but I believe the NM Court deviance from the main Sylvari is a more localized/racial issue than being drawn by the power of Mordremoth.

Seems fishy....

Why do you sell the 3 mini’s that combine to get the mini colossus when they get consumed in the process? This forces the player to re-purchase the three base minis used to get the colossus in the first place? You did this on Halloween and Wintersday.

Why do you make us spend 500 gems twice to get the same item? Why not just sell the colossus separately?

It just seems like an unnecessary way to nickel and dime people.

To those complaining about displacement or stuff being under water.

A couple of points to consider.

1 – First and foremost its a fantasy game.
2 – Even the drastic changes that have been made involved processes analogous to real life geologic forces. Uplift and subduction occurs all the time. Yes, compared to our million year timescale 250 years is somewhat short, see point 1.
3 – Things just change. It by and large still has a lot of interesting GW1 accents to make us feel at home in Tyria.

EDIT: To add, sea level rise does not reflect the same way in different parts of the world. It is not a constant. Elevation plays a big role as well. As well as continental shelf angle.

It just feels like they are actually getting worse with this living story content…

First we get a cave with a guy inside, the group version is the same cave, different mob.

This karka queen is a veteran karka with legendary status.

The consortium contract solo instance was 3 mob encounters and a cutscene.

Look, I understand you are trying to do this bi monthly content cycle. Sounds great. But the result is nothing short of poor. Quality over Quantity. Yes it seems like you can put out these small updates twice a month, but we get little to nothing out of them.

Your holiday stuff was amazing, loved Halloween, loved Wintersday, SAB was great. This Dragon Bash is sure to be a hit. But this living story arc, in its execution, is downright low quality stuff.

With your newfound love for RNG boxes you are sure to be making tons of cash from us.

I advise you to use it wisely. Your living story “experiment” seems to be crashing.

Anyway, I don’t really get what you are speculating on, that Blingg’s golem is Noll’s boss? What? The way I understand the story, Canach will use the golem to get close to Noll, similar to a trojan horse, he will hide inside it.

Transparency and Long-term Agenda

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: soboard.6974

soboard.6974

I still feel after 9 or so months since release that we have no idea what is coming for the game. Yes we get monthly ‘teaser’ pages to drum up interest, but those are at most a month away. Where is our features plan for June? And even when that page gets posted at the end of May, why must we be baited along to wait for a monthly teaser page to get some kitten long term direction? I understand withholding something like an expansion announcement to ensure earnings for Q3/Q4…that won’t ever change.

However, I feel like my interest goes month to month, waiting for a monthly teaser page that may or may not announce new features or game systems, and maybe content. We are the guinea pigs for this Living Story system, which I see is being ramped up after F&F. This LS is great for this month to month stuff Anet is doing, but there is no long term target.

Yes, you cannot divulge everything to the public at once. That is unrealistic. But tell us something.

I enjoy the game immensely. This isn’t an issue of burnout, or not having in-game goals. I currently make progress in sPvP and do chest trains to hopefully get a chance at a precursor. I like DE’s.

But this month to month, Living story marketing campaign just rubs me the wrong way. It’s so predictable. The plot not so much, but the idea that every month we see some small new content addition, flavored gem store editions, Anet cashes out. Then we cycle through another month only to do the same thing.

Great for business. Just not the Anet I expected to see after seeing what they gave us with GW1.

Just my 2 cents.

I just wouldn’t mind seeing more transparency and less of the tight lipped "we are considering it., “…its being worked on, but we have no ETA.” or my favorite Colin Johanson marketing line “We want it to be like your favorite TV show, where you log in every week to see what has changed.”

Whoever thought up that last one knew what they were doing. GW2 might not be a subscription game, but you can bet your kitten that they see $$ every time those flavored gem store items and “Crate” “Chest” variations get added.

Anyway, thanks for a great game so far. Open up a bit more.

Please Do Not Abandon Diversity

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: soboard.6974

soboard.6974

Just wanted to start a thread regarding one of the main reasons that at least made the PvE side of Guild Wars 1 great: Diversity. Cantha and Elona expanded on what was already going on between Krytans and the other northern Tyria races. Without Factions or Nightfall Guild Wars would have been worse off.

These two simulated cultures with real life representations are what brought a major perk to Guild Wars that other games lack. The diversity of Guild Wars 1’s human factions and continents is what allowed the game to have a rich history.

If you abandon that you abandon what made you great in my opinion. It is one thing besides the PvP that made you stand out.

This isn’t another “save Cantha” thread, as you can see that is already up to 16 pages. This instead a plea for you to retain your diversity and fight tooth and nail to preserve simulated cultures that you have built into your lore. Yes you do not want to offend anyone, but by all means, preserve a likeness that is fond to fans.

Please do not abandon diversity. We are not all American, we are not all black, or white, but we are humans. Those cosmetic differences and cultural clashes are part of what make use humans. Keep them for the future.

There was a thread on this in the living story forum when part 3 first came out. Exact same concept. Most folks responded with what BunnytheSwordsman said – that there will be a “living story focus group” (starting with Braham and Rox) while Destiny’s Edge remains as a “personal story focus group.”

Personally, I don’t see why people go about Braham and Rox being part of a “new” Destiny’s Edge, rather than eventually joining the current Destiny’s Edge. It’s not like there’s a rule saying “there can be only five!” or the like (after all, it started out with 6! Two asura!).

Oh I agree completely, it’s all just speculation. I like the idea that their will be a living story NPC guild along with a Destiny’s Edge guild. Much like we had in GW1 with Mhenlo, Devona, etc.

Hello,

Since the change of the World Event timers being tied to account instead of character; I think it would be wise to add a timer to the UI somewhere that told you all of your current cooldowns for World Events like Dragons and Fire Ele, Golem, Wurm, etc. This would be so many people would go through an entire event only to realize they are still on Cooldown and cannot receive a chest.

A new "Destiny's Edge"

There are parallels, but I think they this might be the Living Story cast, while Destiny’s Edge would be the Personal Story stuff. Also, just because they are associated with members does not always mean that they are successors. In fact, I doubt Braham would want to be associated with his mother.

DE’s nemeses are the Elder Dragons. I get the feeling that this “personal nemesis” we’ll see at the end of this will be what Braham and Rox’s possible guild (if there are more) would be initially for.

Well whether or not someone likes their parent doesn’t disqualify them from being a successor – and maybe successor was a poor word to use. Using my explanation they could possibly just be a new guild, alongside DE possibly.

I’m also not saying their quest will in any way be associated with the Elder Dragons.

A new "Destiny's Edge"

in Lore

I had a theory while looking over the F&F content after completing the dungeon.

Specifically regarding Rox and Braham.

I think they will eventually become a successor to the NPC guild “Destiny’s Edge”.

Each has a tie to a former DE member (Rytlock and Eir respectively). I have a feeling that we will eventually see a new character from the remaining races enter into the “Living Story” to complete a new NPC guild of iconic characters.

Any thoughts? Criticisms? Is there a glaring hole somewhere that I am missing?

Anet and Lore

in Lore

soboard.6974

  1. No, because these things tend to be produced in much larger pacts. At least they’ve been given bug fixes. I won’t be expecting to see personal storylines expanded until either DLCs or expansions. And I think I’d prefer this.
  2. Guild Wars lore is tied into everywhere, more or less, seeing how Guild Wars 2 is founded upon Guild Wars lore. But I doubt we’ll be seeing much of anyone from GW1 making an appearance in the living story – few lived to modern day, and if we get referenced GW1 characters it’d be no different than how Jora, Rurik, or Pyre are referenced in the open world.
  3. Because there’s no real need? The GW1 stories are more or less closed, and most of their afteraffects have been dealt with until they became why we have the modern world. At least within Tyria (continent) – except for the whole “White Mantle behind the Bandits” situation, and the Flame Legion still being about, GW1’s lore is all just background, just like how the Exodus of the Gods or Lord Odran was background in GW1. I don’t see why people would expect a reference to GW1 very often, when GW1 didn’t reference historical events very often. Hell, most historical events by GW1’s timeframe we only knew about thanks to the manuals and other lore documents like An Empire Divided.
  4. Maybe, so long as it’s not overdone, but its far from needed. The Guild Wars lore is there, and expanded upon, with more focus on modern events than historical ones, so it isn’t forgotten or anything.

Right I agree with most of that except that Guild Wars 2 would need references very often (any more than is already there, I realize there are references everywhere), however, GW1 didn’t reference anything because it was the history. It was the first incarnation. Guild Wars TWO could be asked to make references because it is essentially the sequel lore wise.

I know we have the lore there in game, everything from environment to characters and naming. However, I would rather it be more apparent you know? Story wise. I realize its there in the open world for all to see, but its just an itching feeling for me….that its not quite fulfilling enough?

I agree that it is probably reserved for content releases, just disappointed that it hasnt been seen yet. I’m in that I want to go to Cantha camp.

On that same note, do you hope that this living world content ties itself to Guild Wars lore somehow? With iconic characters referenced or making appearances?

It just bothers me that while we have a lot of the game that reminds us of GW1 but yet nothing that gives us an update to key lore events that happened?

Just more references and content involving the Guild Wars lore would be nice.

Official explanation for temporary content?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: soboard.6974

soboard.6974

1) GW2 releases as B2P game after years of deserved fanfare from their first incarnation.

2) ANet monetizes cosmetic items and quality of life boosts.

3) ANet devises “Living Story” concept, and uses key phrase (which by the way Colin says over and over and over, in interviews and here on the forums – like a tag line.): “will make you return every month to follow it like your favorite TV show”.*

3a) This is clearly clever marketing, game with decent well monetized cash shop releases monthly content with the catch that it is potentially temporary to cause old and new players to log back in, play the game but most importantly fork over cash to get the limited time minis, skins, and other doodads that cause sales to go up.

Clap, clap, clap. I really applaud you.

4) Furthermore, with a relatively small team, permanent meaningful content is reserved for Q3/Q4 to ensure that holiday sales are at their peak to cash in. Minis, skins, and doodads are also packed in to this huge release so as to capitalize on the influx of “christmas players.”

5) Lastly, and most importantly, Anet does not seem to realize that word of mouth cannot be used to sell friends on the game because you talk about events that they potentially will never get to see, but rather have to resort to saying "You may or may not see something cool this month if you buy the game, or else you have small chance of seeing something underwhelming until this “Living Story” phase reaches its climax."

All in all, Anet seems to have setup the perfect cycle of recycling players every month while potentially gaining new ones. Without a subscription, Anet still looks forward to the last day of the month because they know that week they are making a kitten ton of cash from their gem store selling temporary stuff.

NOTE: Love the game. Spend money on the cash shop. This is just my observation. I applaud your clever marketing. But I do with that we could see more zones instead of a portion of your team spending time on temporary content that you remove. When you remove it, you cause me to wonder why you spent the man hours developing it at all really.

Which bauble-related achievements do you have? Do you have the Associate of Baubles, World 1? (1-1) Do you have the Bachelor of Baubles, World 1? (1-2) Do you have the Master of Baubles, World 1? (1-3) It would be helpful to know how many baubles you are actually getting. If you start each zone with zero, and don’t pick up any digs or creature baubles, maybe that would illuminate the problem. We’ve looked it over and there does not appear to be a bug related to any of the achievements, so we’ll need more precise data from you in order to discover whether it is a bug or not.

Hello Josh. I have every achievement except Master of Baubles, which is preventing me from gaining my title. As I mentioned before, and repeatedly throughout my posts (and my support ticket.) I did not miss a bauble. Let me repeat. I didn’t miss a bauble . I had a friend shadow me through the entire zone and saw him/her get the title. We did the exact same thing. Same number of baubles. No disconnects. No Rata Sum port.

One more time. No bauble was missed in my numerous attempts at this. I followed guides. Watched 25 minute long videos and paused when they got a bauble. Compared to screenshots.

What other proof do i need? Its the last achievement I need for my title Josh. I love the game. I spend money in the cash shop. I just want to be rewarded for my work. It’s really that simple.

I have 5 level 80s, one of each race, and all have completed the story beginning to end. 4 of them have 100% map completion and the 5th is at 96%. I like Guild Wars. I love playing. This is the only problem I’ve ever had with the game.

Writing Out Trahearne

in Lore

Posted by: soboard.6974

soboard.6974

He’s quite possibly the worst character ever.

Trust me, he isn’t. Not in stories, not in games, not in MMOs, and no, not even in the GW franchise (there are some pathetically silly side characters in the two game series, but since they’re side characters, they’re ignored).

Honestly, the only thing they need to change about Trahearne is his voice actor. His personality, even if a bit bipolar, is fine. Most of the reasons I’ve seen folks hate him are really silly and nonsensical – or even just due to them not understanding the character(‘s background) properly (which isn’t a fault of the character, but the player and/or the storytelling).

And the only way that voice will sound good, if it’s on a golem or some other machine.

PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, STOP POSTING THIS!

Trahearne is considered the worst person in guild wars 2 because of the whole piggybacking thing, and the fact that he “lacks a personality.” which I call bull. The only reason people say that is because he just randomly pops up in non sylvari storylines, so he has no backstory. All they need is to alter the pre order storyline a little bit so he appears in them as well.

Also this. Though even for non-sylvari folks, he has backstory. He just has backstory too late for them.

But aside from voice and the “randomly pops up” – people hate him because he “takes the spotlight” as Marshal of the Pact, though he doesn’t really do much in that spotlight he supposedly has people still give that claim. In reality, they just want to be the top dog without realizing all the boringness of being that top dog in the realm of economics (those people should try making a business).

I can see your logic. His character’s role serves a purpose I believe, but his voice acting is done poorly you’re right. I wasn’t meaning to write him out completely now, but the idea that he works more in the background when we confront other dragons does sound appealing. He does have unique ties to Orr. Perhaps like other users said he could use more backstory, and maybe earlier mentions in the story to prevent his sudden appearance for other races.

How much backstory could you write considering hes just 25? That’s the real question.

Features Vs. Content

I’ve played quite a bit of Guild Wars 2 since launch, having 5 80s, 1 of each race, all having completed the story, with 4/5 at 100% map completion. The fifth is at 97%~. I enjoy all aspects of the game from PvE, to sPvP, and WvW. I participated in the early access of the original Guild Wars and am a huge fan of the lore.

After giving a bit of my background, I wanted to commend the team on putting out everything that they have and more specifically laying the groundwork for longevity in the form of features. Things like WvW progression, living story, spectator mode, and leader-boards. This is a solid foundation that surely is put in place to increase the longevity of the game, and I applaud them wholeheartedly.

But what about the map? We’ve seen holiday events (awesome content), things like SAB, (again fantastic), but no meaningful additions to the “personal story” or expanding the regions we can currently access.

The team has come out and said an expansion is not in the works yet, but rather that the focus was on pushing the monthly updates. That’s great, but I don’t feel that the overarching story and game-world expansion is receiving enough attention.

I thought the Lost Shores event was great, and with it we got Southsun Cove – (however empty it may be). It has become sort of thrown on the backburner when much of the focus has been in the shiverpeaks/ascalon with the living story. I know the Consortium is being tied in to this what with the refugee camps being setup, but it has not been pulled back to Southsun yet.

Maybe it’s a case of being on a “need-to-know” basis, and the future of zone-expansion/story direction will be withheld for the monthly teaser-page to encourage players to log-in, or to bring in new players. I can understand this.

It could be that the focus is indeed on the layering of features for every facet of the game so as to allow for faster content additions later in the year, which again is something that I understand. I agree with that decision then.

I don’t think this is a case of my burnout as I still find meaningful things to do every day when I log in (grabbing mini’s, sPvP ranking, and the occasional WvW battle or dungeon dive.) So it’s not a burnout issue at all.

I suppose it’s more of an information access issue. Even with understanding and following every aspect of the living story I still feel no sense of what direction either the personal story, overarching story, or zone-expansion are going. I’m not posting this to complain, but rather expressing an observation of my feelings after playing through the various aspects of the game.

What are your opinions, and do you agree that it is great seeing feature groundwork being added, and that this just means content additions will come later on in the year? Maybe saved for a 3rd/4th quarter push to pull in more players?

Any response is appreciated. Like I said, this is not a rant, just and outline of my observations.

So what is everyone’s opinion on this topic? He’s quite possibly the worst character ever. I actually have no problem playing second fiddle, (I liked Rurik.). Just replace him with someone with a better personality and a different voice. Or who knows, maybe the same voice would look better on something other than a pre-pubescent sylvari.

Is there any developer opinion on this?
