I keep seeing the gem shop mentioned, as if there is something in there that is required for stat gain, or to obtain some higher level than not using the gem shop.
Fact of the matter is that the gem shop is QoL and has nothing to do with your in-game performance.
I fail to see how they’re “forcing” anyone towards the gem shop.
And obviously they want microtransactions, and are going to try to influence people to use the gem shop… They don’t have monthly revenue stream, and only charge once for the game.
If they had no income, the game would not stay open.
Gem shop is optional. Don’t like it? Don’t use it. Nothing in there will drastically alter your experience.

Improvements
•Kill streak boosts have been redesigned (and had their icon changed). The boost now lasts for one hour and adds kill streak bonuses separately. Kill streaks last 60 seconds from the most recent kill and stacks 10% bonus experience (up to a maximum of 100% bonus experience). Kill streaks can be restarted as often as necessary within the hour.

Source: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates/Game-Update-Notes-May-20-2014/first#post4040185

As for good locations for the kill streak booster, bandit caves are great. The flame legion caves in Plains of Ashford would be good.
Anywhere with dredge, too. Oh, and Tamini in the western side of Kessex seem to spawn pretty rapidly.

If you think this game is the grindiest in western AAA MMO’s, you have probably not played many western AAA MMO’s.

Edit: Just saw your second post.
I see your previous experience and raise you two years in EVE Online.
Two years down and nowhere near the skills I needed to play how I wanted.

You mean you found a game that is grindier than GW2, and think that I am impressed?

EVE Online is a sandbox game, with a fully player controlled economy and universe. And it is surely not designed around one player being the hero.
Comparing this to the GW2 theme park, where everyone is second in command after Trahearne is a bit of out of place.

And please show me, where EVE Online was ever advertised as not being grindy, thx.

It seems that you’re miffed that I pointed out a great example of a game that is grindier than GW2.

I’ve never been interested in the ascended “grind”, but after researching the exact process for the ascended grind, and hearing personal testimony from numerous guild mates, I have no doubt in my mind that GW2 is nowhere near the grindiest of all western AAA MMO’s.

I played WoW (vanilla to WotLK, and a month of Cataclysm), EVE, SWG (with a Jedi during permadeath era), WoW, RIFT, RO (not western, but still much grindier), RuneScape, and a few others that escape me at the time.

Every single one of those are so much more of a grind than GW2 that I cannot even begin to comprehend how someone could feel that GW2 is the grindiest game out.

Not trying to “impress” you. Just pointing out that there are plenty of games that are much more of a grind.

You must be kidding…

After they introduced the grindiest grinds ever in a western AAA MMO (noone likes to grind they said), vertical progression (even casuals should have BiS they said), most of the events are watered down to press 1, 1 and 1 again (boring they said), you still think they would give a kitten about what they said in the past?

That is a lot of faith you got there.

If you think this game is the grindiest in western AAA MMO’s, you have probably not played many western AAA MMO’s.

People make playing the TP seem like such a tremendous feat.
I play 2-3 hours a day, sometimes. Usually less.
I can play that TP like no other. It’s really simple. People just talk it up and make it seem harder than it is.
I have no problem with the loot system, either.
I do participate in the EotM train, though. Easy karma, gold, and leveling. Plus the salvage loot nets a good income from the TP.

I highly doubt it.
If you actually read the patch notes, they eliminated the starter zone trains because new players are learning to be terrible by doing them.
They want players to learn how to use their class, and not how to just target a mob, press 1, sit back, and wait.

As soon as I get my Necro to 80, I will definitely give this a go.
Sounds like a good idea.
And, if for any reason I die before 80, I will absolutely delete the character.
Even if I’m 79 with one kill to 80.
It’ll be a fun challenge.

i would enjoy a hardcore mode but there are the changes i would make

experience scrolls cannot be used BUT can be forged into a hardcore experience scroll to level up (this would be expensive and help the economy use up items)

you can us the TP, if u want to buy an item, die and lose it, thats more than ok by me its good for the game as a whole as it uses up items

however your dye and wardrobe DO NOT transfer over , so u gata unlock things on this character seperatley

there has to be unique rewards for this mode, like rare items only available from this mode that DO transfer over

you should have access to your bank, again, losing items you buy is good for the economy

I think the OP intended this as more of a contest/challenge than an actual game mode.

The loot system in EotM should be overhauled go to the winners of the match. Doing a set of achievements per match would decide the minimum level of participation needed to get credit. Farmers can go back to Queensdale/Frostgorge.

Then you say goodbye to a majority of the people in EotM.
And the ones who do stay, continue to do it the same exact way.
Nerfs a lot, fixes nothing.

If you hate the RNG in this game, you’re gonna have a bad time playing any other MMORPG.

This +200 alot worse in many other mmorpg its actually not that bad in this game at all.

Except it’s not.

I just spent 2 hours doing Fractals 49 in a Pug. We had Swamp, Cliffside, Dredge Fractal and the Molten Duo. It was a time consuming, and somewhat tedious experience. And for what?

1 Gold and 40 Silver.

Roughly the same reward I would have gotten for zerging AC in 15 minutes.

That’s bollux. Absolutely bollux. This game has no correlation between risk/reward or any sort of loot-tiering.

You can get the same amount and quality of loot for zerging around in Orr, doing Champ trains or FotM or auto-shotting your way through mega-events. It’s an abyssal way to reward people for their efforts.

FotM can be hard, frustrating and punishing, especially if you’re in a PuG. The rewards need to reflect that or why even bother?

Sure, you can blame the RNG for that, but really, sounds more like a dev problem than the RNG.
RNG in other games is much worse.
I have never had a full tier set in WoW, no matter how many times I did the raids all through Vanilla to WotLK.

Dont pick warrior ranger guardian or necro. Those are the dumbed down/shallow classes that will bore you relatively fast.

Every class is decent enough for soloing. My advice is to go with something with a bit more depth like elementalist or engineer.

I disagree. I love my Guardian and Necro. The only other class I’ve tried so far that kept me as interested as these two is a Thief.
Warrior was boring to me, though. As for Ranger, never played one.

They’re called “exclusive” for a reason,

Yet sooner or later they get avaliable again, being less exclusive – often tends to happen at least . Personally what annoys me the most is not the skins but rather the achievs i missed. They shoulda make an Asura create a time machine so we could experience old LS events once more lol.

I wasn’t around for the first LS, so I missed every single achievement and other exclusive items.
My only frustration is that they left no content behind. They could have permabarred the skins and achievements and left behind some content, and I would be happy. :P

If I mainly PvP, then I have to go do 1 daily in PvE or WvW.
Absolutely no reason to complain, in my eyes.
Complaining about that is just sad.

Prior to April 15th, it could take me an entire 3 hour play session to finish dailies.
Now that I have experience in doing dailies quickly, post April 15th, even with the reduced number of daily goals to complete, I usually finish within 30 min to an hour.
That’s probably a bit of a generous guess. too. I doubt it really takes me even that long.

ESO is not a megaflop or terrible or even boring as some pundits have mentioned. GW2 gets an edge over ESO is because of the art style and the graphics and dare I mention the TP.

As someone who played a ton of the beta, and even tried out more than enough of the post-release via a friend’s account, I can say that you are wrong (IMO) about two things.

ESO may not be a megaflop (although I feel it will be, time will tell), but it is incredibly terrible and boring.
The words tedious, clunky, buggy, and bots come to mind.

Oh, the insane number of bots in the game is incredible. I have never seen so many bots in any game prior to ESO. Ever.
Of course, it’s all a matter of perception.

Personally, I like the “b2p + DLC” model best, the one used by The Secret World.
Devs get some money, I don’t feel pressured with a monthly sub.
When they release a juicy content update, they can charge some money for it. For all other cosmetic and convenience thingies, players can go through the cash shop.

It’s cheaper than a sub, but more stable income than a pure f2p.

I do not like DLC. At all. I know that, unfortunately, a lot of people do.

I miss the days of yore, where I didn’t have to pay $5 to $15 for a few zones, a crappy weapons pack, or minimal content.

The days where you could snag an expansion for $20 to $60 and get an entire game’s worth of content, or even more content than was in the original.

I do not participate in this DLC craze, as the price is never worth the content. It is an obvious money grab from people who should know better, but don’t.

The last, and only, DLC I have ever paid for was for PAYDAY 2.
It was on sale, and cost less than $7 for all the weapon packs and mission content.

I participate in the QD train sometimes, but I can see where you’re coming from.
I hate the toxic attitude people get in /map when the train is disrupted by someone that doesn’t know any better.
In fact, when I watch flame wars erupt because someone who knew no better disrupted the train, I usually go out of my way to disrupt the train as much as possible.
An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.
If someone chooses to join the train and not learn how to properly play their own character, that is their own perogative. Unfortunately, it will be detrimental to others, but that is nobody’s choice but their own.

1. There is no legendary armor. Only Exotic/Ascended. As far as the process for getting those, I do not know yet. 10 levels away from 80 and haven’t looked into it yet. I know that Ascended is the one to strive for.
Those characters are most likely definitely wearing armor you can find on dungeons/crafting galleries. They may just be mix-and-matching skins, rather than sticking with one set, and have a ton of nice dye options available to them.

2. WvW is a hit or a miss. Lots of zerg, mass vs. mass, or you can also do small group roams. For PvP in general, I prefer sPvP. WvW is, to me, just an easy way to level and farm loot for salvage, money, karma, and experience.

3. The Mists are the WvW zones. Fractals are sort of like dungeons? I dunno, have yet to do any fractals.

If anyone would like to correct me or reiterate anything I’ve said in a better way, please do. I’m nowhere near an “expert”.
