I’m unable to reproduce this error message. Would one of you mind posting a screenshot of the error for me?

Here you go: http://i.imgur.com/1g5QamJ.jpg

There’s really not much to say, honestly

Did you close the browser and relaunch it after the maintenance?

If you mean the BLTC window, yes. I have also closed the game entirely and restarted it and it still happens. If you’re talking about my actual internet browser (Which shouldn’t be related to the game itself, should it?) then no as I’ve had this up for days with quite a few tabs.

I did mean the BLTC window. Thanks again!

Hey all,

I just wanted to let you guys know that your comments and discussions haven’t gone unnoticed or unread. The team keeps pretty good tabs on the forums, even if we’re not making a lot of regular posts over the holiday break. We had a number of conversations regarding the feedback found in this thread and others.

I don’t think we’re ready to talk about specifics right now (and I certainly can’t make that call on my own with everyone out of the office), but I figured you guys would like a little reassurance that we’re aware of your thoughts on the matter.

Next

I posted this in GW2 Discussion, but it’s worth repeating here.

As you may have noticed, we added a message to the in-game mails a while back that lets you know that a particular mail is coming from another player and not from ArenaNet.

Please heed that message.

Don’t be taken in by:

  • Warnings about your account being restricted, suspended, or closed. These phony messages ask you to click a link to “remove restrictions” or “validate your account” or some other nonsense that are simply sent to get access to your account by your providing the credentials.
    • We very seldom send in-game messages warning of account suspensions or closures, and you should never click a link in such a message.
  • Fake “award notifications” that claim that ArenaNet is giving away gems or other goods and that, again, ask you to click a link to claim yours.
    • If we’re going to give you something, we don’t need your password.
  • Other messages the lead to a third-party site that asks for your game credentials.

If we’re going to give you something, we don’t need your password. If your account is in jeopardy, you won’t be able to “validate” it through a link to some shady third-party site.

If in doubt about any in-game mail, report it using the in-game system or contact Support by clicking “Support” at the top of this page and submitting a request to check on what you were sent.

Best: delete such mails immediately and put the would-be account thieves out of business.

Alert: In-Game Mail Scams

Gaile, is there a reason why you guys can’t just prevent people from writing “Arenanet” in the subject line of in game mail? It seems like that would at least force scammers to write something else, which would in turn stop some slightly more unsuspecting people from accidentally believing the mail to be true.

That is a valid suggestion, but I made one on the use of another company-related word, and was told it wasn’t possible to filter it. I’ll check into this, but think about someone who says, “ArenaNet just added [something to the game]” or “Write ArenaNet about your fps question” or any other of other things. I’m not sure filtering is the answer (I’ll inquired) but really the message at the bottom is everyone’s signal and should be reviewed with care.

for those that dont know always check on the bottom, where it says this mail was sent by another player. Anet does not ask for your login info. Always report and block. And never ever go on those websites, even if curious, they are designed to steal login and personal info, as well as installing harmful software on your computer in order to steal your info. Stay safe.

Words to live by above. Thank you.

Why do they HAVE to role play in public?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Gaile Gray

Previous

Next

This is why devs will never get it right. They do not understand roleplayers at all, so they never develop RP tools and settings for them. It’s not just GW2, but the genre as a whole.

I don’t even roleplay, but i at least recognize what they need.

Perhaps “the genre as a whole” prioritizes things similarly, where tools designed for the majority of players take precedence over those designed for a relatively small segment of a game’s population. For while we value our RP players, I believe that the majority of tools and features are designed for significantly larger numbers of players.

But in all honesty, why should roleplayers be isolated in a Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game?

This says things pretty clearly. Thanks. I think the topic has been addressed, suggestions made (thank you!), and positions stated so I will flag this for review and closure now.

Our RP community is strong and vibrant, and I can’t remember the last time a single chat string in RP areas needed to be actioned (if someone is suggesting a crossing of the lines into unacceptable chat). I feel that our players know the limits and abide by them in the vast majority of cases, and that may be even more true in the case of RPers.

Suggestions given in this thread word well: Remove the emote strings; choose a different area; join in… Or don’t. Seriously, it’s your call. But please, let’s do our best to be part of a community of players, a tolerant community where we each may have different likes and dislikes, preferences, favorite places in the world, special events that never fail to delight, but where we all do our best to get along.

Hello,

At the current time we have no plans to localize Guild Wars 2 into additional languages. While we understand the request, we have focused on four major languages for now and hope that anyone interested in playing our game will be able to join in one of those four.

The team may consider additional languages in the future, but I have no timeframe for such reviews and could not say in which additional languages we might consider offering GW2.

XeRauS, thank you for continuing to provide more information. I can’t speak to why you and Stupendous Man are seeing different results but in all of the pathpings you’ve provided there is a considerable amount of congestion between links which is very likely causing some, if not all, of your problem.

When you see packet loss to a specific host it may be that ICMP is disabled or is being deprioritized on that hop but packet loss between hops is bad.

I’ve read through all your comments and I appreciate the insights. I do wonder if it’s possible to sort out straight “I am seeking a group” from “I am offering a group” from “I am offering a group and will sell a spot within it.” It’s all about group, you see? And group is the core of that stream and the core was the basis for my initial comments.

Clearly, “I’m selling this item” is way out of left field and should not be in the LFG stream. (And excuse that “Well you need that item to be in a group” isn’t going to wash. )

I will talk to CS about this again. I understand that LFG can be seen differently by different players, and I’d like to make sure that we’re clear on what the CS Team will act upon, when something is reported.

drachehexe — welcome to Guild Wars 2. I hope you’re able to use the advice the other players gave you here and come up with names that you love.

Note: I changed the name of this thread to something more indicative of its topic and less likely to be viewed exclusively as hyperbole. Please refrain from going OTT on the forums.

Thanks to those of you who gave helpful advice or info. Donari — your suggestions and details are great!

Sadly, I had to flag two posts for review. Insulting players isn’t acceptable. Insulting a new player seems even lower. The Guild Wars 2 community is better than that, it truly is. So if someone feels the urge to post a rude comment here or anywhere on the forums: stop, think, exercise some self control, and contribute, don’t bash.

Gaile has a history of partisanship and sarcasm. I find her attitude refreshing; she actually has a personality and opinions. She’s not a whitewashed corporate minion. I like her.

Reads first part: Hold on a minute! Humph!!!
Reads second part: Oh, ok, then. ~beams~

I enjoy a good joke and am quite often a fan of a wink and a nudge. I’m light-handed as far as closing threads or flagging for moderator review — we want conversation, we seek input, we thrive on player participation. And in turn, we should be tolerant and understanding except in cases of… well, you know the drill on what’s unacceptable here.

As far as being partisan, I have opinions, but you will seldom know them here and the devs will virtually never see them internally. My reports to the devs are as balanced and objective as I can make them. (For instance, no one internally has a clue how I feel about the new dailies.) The feedback I give the team on any particular subject (and they kindly do ask for feedback) is always “Some feel [this] and others feel [that] and a few feel [this other way] too.” I gather statistics and quotes to give a solid cross-section in very detailed reports that seldom reflect my opinion at all. Just wanted to get that on record.

And hey, thanks for the nice words and the vote of confidence.

Yes, Ashen, you’re right. I view this thread as a lighthearted thread, not intended to “bash” anyone. Some do the new dailies. Some don’t. Some don’t like them. Some do. It’s all good. We have a thread for serious discussion of the topic, but this one is pretty darn funny. One of my faves so far: “I skipped breakfast.”

Beware.

Wait, Sizer, did you forget to mention you refrigerator stopped working?

I’ve been doing dailies for 2 accounts since the update, in less than an hour for both. I too am still alive.

I commend you. I have to confess it’s taken me longer than 30 minutes to do mine, some days. But then, I have this tendency to stop and smell the flowers, or chat with other players, or get attracted by that Wintersday prezzie on the distant horizon, so…

I think it would be good to value both the journey and the rewards and not focus exclusively on the end result. The sub-80 you party with today, the sub-50 you teach the ropes, may become your new guildie or a valued fractal/dungeon partner in the future.

I take on board not everyone wants to go this route, but I think in the long run it can be quite rewarding in ways that are more valuable than gold and tokens.

Have something to say? Go ahead and make your point, but please do it in a respectful manner… even if you totally and completely disagree with the person posting above you. Disagree, by all means, but don’t be disagreeable.

Ok, let’s talk about this.

Is it actionable?

  • Without all the details, my first reaction is that it is offensive and entirely unacceptable.

Why didn’t an agent take action on the other player?

  • I can’t answer that, but there may be a couple of reasons:
    1. Occasionally we investigate a report and find that both parties were engaged in trash-talking and we have the option of suspending both accounts or neither.
    2. Sometimes an agent misses a report, since they’re viewing in real time and things move quickly. If this person was engaged in similar chat and reported multiple times, that is concerning.
    3. Very rarely, someone incites offensive chat in order to create drama and/or draw sympathy. (It’s not common, but it happens and I would be remiss if I didn’t mention it.)

Would submitting a ticket help?

  • Yes, if necessary. Usually, the best way to report is through the in-game system because the agent is able to act quickly, sometimes within minutes. But in cases of repeatedly harassment (“stalking,” targeted repeated whispers, etc.) go ahead and submit a ticket. Click “Support” at the top of this page, then “Submit a request” and give this info:
    1. The date
    2. The time of day (and time zone you’re in, so agents can pull chat logs)
    3. The exact spelling of the offending character and/or display name
    4. The name of your character (the one that was targeted)
If it’s convenient, you also might include:
    5. Your game world
    6. Your general location in the game

With this information, the team can pull logs. This can take up to several days, depending on ticket volume. But we don’t look the other way in cases of harassment, hate speech, swearing, stalking, offensive language, and things of that nature. If the incident is confirmed, something will be done.

Sometimes you will hear in a general sense what took place; other times you may not hear but should have confidence that reports of this sort of thing will be handled thoroughly. If you feel something has slipped through the cracks, post in the “Tickets for Review” and provide your ticket number for the CS Lead can review the case.

And I agree with Ardenwolfe and Rangelost: Report and move on. Don’t let it be a focus — the game’s too fun and life is too short to empower someone else to spoil your day!

We performed a forum reorganization recently, and the CDI Sub-forum was created in preparation for the kick-off of a new CDI in the new year.

We’re looking forward to the continued collaboration!
