As the topic says, is there any intention of anet to add other legendary backpacks requiring the spending of league tickets to obtain or are we free to spend them on ascended backpacks and llamas?

There are no current plans for a new backpack. But that does not mean never.

It was announced. We actually had this in at the end of last season, with a much smaller number, since it wasn’t announced at the start. For this season the total games needed to get on the leaderboard goes up by 15 each week.

I just took a look at EU leaderboard and saw that numbers 2 Metrix and Sindrener are not ranked numbers 1 and 2 respectively. I also saw that the game requirement changed from 15 to 30. I tought that u simply needed to play a minimal of 15 games in general to get a position at the leaderboard. Is my leaderboard bugged? Or did I misunderstood the game requirement for the leaderboard? does it change weekly? What are the rules regarding to the leaderboard and maintaing that position?

The number of required games goes up every week.

I’ve been keeping an eye on this post, and I’ve seen several comments asking for the removal of the penalty box. Unfortunately, that mechanic is intricately involved in the design of the entire instance and removing it is simply not feasible.

Added an icon field to v1/event_details; it should reach live in a month or so (release process takes awhile). Some events don’t have icons — I presume that the event icon, if specified, overrides the default icon.

On paper, nothing would change if we still have DCers and AFKers. However, if the proposed system is implemented it would perhaps encourage players to try harder.

So for example if the score is 500-480:

Winning team +17
Losing team -5 (instead of -17)

Glicko would actually give +5 for the winning team (simplified example). So the winning team would also be encouraged to win by as much as possible.

We’ve been monitoring discussions about the Hearts and Minds instance and I’d like to take a moment to communicate the plans we have to address your concerns. The recent release of the Caladbolg content made it increasingly clear that we should take the time to make Hearts and Minds a more polished experience for all players. I picked up this project and am happy to say that we have a multitude of fixes in progress that we will release in a future update.

I would like to be clear on the scope of the changes being made: It is my goal to fix all blocking bugs within the instance and to address as many QoL issues as are quickly actionable. A major mechanical overhaul of the encounters is not in the works, but I will incorporate small changes that should result in noticeable improvements to the fun and quality of the experience.

When this update goes live, we hope you will share your thoughts about the changes on the forums. As always, we welcome your feedback.

These are looking a little bit better, but a few concerns:

  1. Why do some sigils apply there effect on-swap (stagnation, revelation) as opposed to on your next attack after swapping. I think there is more counterplay if these proc on-next attack (aoe around target) as opposed to instantly.
  2. For sigils that have longer CD’s, is there any idea on how this will work with engie and ele (or warrior with fast hands), who will be 50% less efficient taking these sigils. For instance, something like a ranger can put escape and revelation on one weapon, then greater nullification and something else on the other weapon, and get 4 procs over a 20s period. Ele and engie, meanwhile, would be stuck with just 2 procs. Likewise, other on-swap effects have less control for these two classes.
  3. Duration sigils should not all be the same duration. 25% longer burn is WAY stronger than 25% longer vulnerability. Similarly, 25% longer bleeds doesn’t do as much for you as 25% longer burns, as burns are applied as a burst condi, while bleeds get built up and cleansed when there is a large stack.
  4. Purity, cleansing, and escape: This is a LOT of condition cleansing available. It is conceivable to remove up to 4 conditions from a single swap (slotting cleansing + escape) which really helps builds that might struggle with condis (something like druid will put these super-defensive sigils on their “now I just spam defensive evades” weapon set) and hurt condition builds who are already getting some of their free proc-bursts reduced?
  1. We have been debating which effect makes more sense.
  2. The longer cooldowns are simply because we like the effect, but are just too strong for classes that have frequent access to ‘swaps’ like engie and warr. You are right in that they have much less control. However, making every sigil viable on every class/build is probably an unrealistic goal.
  3. We will look at the numbers
  4. Escape was changed from only cleansing immobilize because it felt weak, but perhaps it could do something like only cleanse cripple/chill?

After some rough math, all the condi duration sigils are way too high. What happened is the Force/Air/Fire/Blood/Leeching/Hydromancy sigils have been removed and basically replaced with mostly lesser Direct Damage versions in the pvp sigil overhaul. The exception is condition duration (which correlates to damage output over time) sigils have been increased 20% in value (increased from +20% to +25%).

If anything, all these damage condi sigils need to be reduced as well by 20%-25% or should be +15% duration sigils. Vulnerability (and if added, any other non damaging sigils) could easily be +25% and not impact much of the play.

We will take more looks at the numbers. It could be that 20% is fine with a new set of available sigils.

I don’t understand the strong focus on swapping sigils.

It’s essentially a gimmicky mechanic that goes contrary to how the game is played at any other point in time: you swap for melee/ranged or to access another skill.

Sure, a skilled player will now be able to reveal or steal a boon. Everyone else will probably lock themselves out of the weapon they need, or simply not utilize the mechanic.

It’s fair that there can be conflict between sigils and weapon swapping. If the sigil has a powerful effect, you care more about holding weapon swap for the sigil than the weapon skills. Ideally all on-swap sigils could complement your choice of weapons and not overshadow them.

Some months ago, we asked forum members to not create or engage in threads requesting the reopening of a server or the adjustment of Glicko ratings for a specific server. We explained why at the time, but a little more information and an expansion of our request seems in order at this time.

Server Reopening Requests: Worlds reopen most often due to the natural ebb and flow of players, which impacts the number of play hours on a given world. If a world reopens, it is usually because players or guilds changed worlds, players have stopped playing on that world, or, rarely, because we made an overall adjustment to world capacity. We do not reopen servers upon request and ask that you not post such appeals.

Thread about Worlds: While we appreciate “world pride,” quite a few threads about game worlds become unnecessarily contentious and negative, and we need to close those. Sometimes the mods use the term “matchup thread” when taking action. Yet you should know it’s not the matchup that’s the problem, it’s the unpleasant comments or tone. I’ll work with the moderators to help them make closures, warnings, and infractions clearer.

  • An example of such a thread is here. As you can see, the thread included several insults. If you want to bash a world or a player, do it in the game!

Glicko Resets: The devs don’t reset a Glicko rating upon request, and resets are not based on perceptions or opinions but on factual data derived from the game info itself. We’ve seen understandable confusion when a reset takes place shortly after someone posts a request thread, or when a reset did not happen even though someone requested it. In order to avoid that kind of confusion, we ask that players not submit Glicko reset requests.

  • Here’s an example of such a thread. Again, the thread became unpleasant and the initial request wasn’t in line for action, anyway.

Arguing World Links: The devs make world linking decisions after on a neutral review of data, using algorithms, and based on their best judgment. If you want to discuss your opinions about specific world linkings, you’re welcome to do so. If you have questions, my best advice is to pose your questions in a conversational (not combative) way, because sometimes a dev will be able to provide some information, such as here. However, as a general rule, ArenaNet employees simply do not have the time that would be required to answer individual questions or debate a world linking topic. They do read the forums, however, and will review your constructive feedback on the subject.

I hope these additional details and explanations will help everyone understand our desire for communication coupled with our need to set realistic standards for discussions and forum topics.

So funny thing, I looked at the actual bits and bobbles after posting that. Not only was I totally mistaken about the story data being hard to expose, at some point I’d already written the backend implementation to dump out the journal stuff?

It needs to be massaged into a usable API, but I can probably have a PR for the details on github next week.

The patch last night shouldn’t have had any effect on the API stuff (but then again, distributed systems happy fun times).

Do you happen to have the actual error string? Is it “invalid key” or “ErrBadData” or something else? There’s an unexpected blip around that time which would have generated ErrBadData — but that wouldn’t make keys go invalid permanently?

I’ll spend some time rooting around to see if I can some idea about what could have caused this :<

EDIT: Do you happen to still have the broken API keys? On Jeremy’s account I’m seeing what may be two broken keys? But want to verify that I’m looking at. They probably won’t be in the account site anymore — you’ll have to get them from whomever runs the TS verification bot.

EDIT2: This story is becoming more and more terrifying.

As I say to anyone who has trouble with JP’s, if you need a mesmer to help you out, feel free to whisper me. I love running jumping puzzles and am more than happy to assist with any JP in the game.

Though I doubt you’ll take me up on the offer, the offer is there nonetheless. And that goes for anyone reading this.

Very kind of you, DP. At one time I eschewed any help in doing JPs, because I thought that might be “cheaty.” Then I asked a dev and they told me that getting help from other players is part of the game, and that there are some designs that definitely benefit from — maybe are designed to lean towards — the assistance of one of our amazing mesmers. So now I do avail myself of their help, and quite honestly, mesmers have been responsible for quite a few dailies completions for me (you know who you are!), with the attendant reduction in bruising from pounding my head against the keyboard.

So thanks for the offer, and y’know, I may just reach out sometime!

Next up: My first precursor?

You never know. My precursor came from the King Jalis Refuge jp in Snowden Drifts.

I traded in six frozen weapon fragments yesterday, thinking “mmm, two ecto”.

I got the Leaf of Kudzu, and a Shamans weapon used to make the corrupted shard.

Slippy, this is something I’ve never done before so I hope you take no offense to it, but could I rub my mouse on you? Perhaps my keyboard, as well? And if you hold really still, I can grab my computer tower… Oh, and I would be remiss if I left out my router. Would the cables be taking it too far?

I think somewhere around “router” is where you crossed that line.

Am I missing something? Is there a clear story progress indicator that you can tease out of character or achievements?

Not currently, unfortunately. The hacky achievement approach is the closest you can get to via the API, at the moment.

Likewise, you can cobble together that first list from achievements; I’m actually currently doing this, you can look at the achievement for twilight arbor (twilight’s idol) and the part of it with ‘story’ in the name is the story

Annoyingly enough, the story mode completions are tracked on a per-character basis, not per-account. There’s no current way to get those per-character unlocks out of the API

Other notes:

The exploration/story stuff is, uhh, surprisingly complex and very difficult to expose in a structured manner.

Can Sigil of Compounding stack?

From the last thread, it stacks to 5%. Same with Punishment.

We’ve gone back and forth on this, so I have the percentages unlisted at the moment. The conditional damage is harder to reach than the other conditional sigils, so it could be balanced if there is a higher limit than 5% or no limit on the damage increase.

30% more stun?! This seems rather powerful to me.
Will there be any nerf to stunlock in the patch, or can we just expect nerf to damage?

I ask because if there is no new mechanic to put a cap on stun, I suspect that even though damage is nerfed, people will still be dead before they can do anything. Which isn’t fun.

If you think it’s OP, then you should go use it because it’s on live right now, but without the damage increase

  • Doubled Sigil of Agility cooldown and double quickness duration to 2 seconds.
  • Removed Sigil of Revelation. While we like this effect, we will keep it in our back pocket for some more thought.
  • Sigil of Punishment is now Sigil of Enhancement and deals .5% damage per boon on yourself. We didn’t like the idea of a damage bonuses based on something you didn’t have direct control over.
  • Removed Sigl of Peril. We don’t feel this sigil would be a strong choice compared to the other condition duration sigils.
  • NEW: Sigil of Ruthlessness: Gain 5 might (3 seconds) when interrupting a foe.
  • NEW: Sigil of Absorption: Steal a boon when interruption a foe.
  • Various sigils that changed have been renamed (not listed).

I don’t need my Legendaries. I can play just fine with some well-chosen exotics. The thing is, though, I want my Legendaries, and I don’t regret the time, effort, or expense involved in acquiring them.

Other players’ mileage may vary. Some will like A, others will prefer B. No one is right or wrong, and only you can make the decision about which to get, or whether to try for one at all.

But every time I take one of my bows in hand, I’m happy. I mean, I honestly think about that every time I play. Not that others see them, or admire them, or they’re super-special and rather rare, although I guess any of that may be true. I love them because they’re just so beautiful, and awesome, and they make me smile.

We did at one point explore the possibility of account bound AR, but in the end decided on simplifying the agony system (back when we simplified infusions) rather than doing a huge system change.

A larger system change would have taken many resources away from actually building content, and would have caused other problems. Like.. what happens to agony infusions? All those infusions on the market suddenly either become worthless, or need some other reason to be consumed. Additionally, what would the effect be on ascended gear? Would you need ascended gear still? What happens to demand?

Ideally we would have designed the system as account bound in the first place, but that is not the reality we live in.

Unfortunately, at this point I do not see a switch to account bound AR any time in our future

Technically there is a way to semi-“auto-salvage” gear and loot if you right click your salvage kits. I told my fiance about it and he went from whining about having to salvage everything to going right back out to farm so he could play with the auto-salvage button again.

As for the auto-selling…is it really that big a deal to find a random merchant on the map or (if you have one) go to the guild hall and sell things off? And auto-gathering sounds more like a cheat code to me than playing the game as intended.

I guess I forgot you can do that with kits. I sure do it daily with my Copper- and Silver-Fed Salvage-o-Matics. (Why I put off buying those things is beyond me, btw!) Anyway, with a right click, I’m noticing a huge savings in time and it’s fun as heck to count the goodies fly by as I go through a batch.

I know this is a pvp discussion, but I have a question for Anet. Are theese changes going to hit pvE someday? or, alternatively, considering the massive split between pve and pve sigils that will come from this patch, will this open the opportunity for the skill & balance team to make PvE sigils stronger and more impactful without fear of pvp balance?

The skills & balance team can make whatever changes to the PvE sigils they see fit without affecting PvP sigils.

Do you have a timeline of when this update will ship? Will we see it during S6? Before S7? End of 2017? When?

We have a few target dates, which we can’t share yet. But definitely not during S6. Especially considering we’ll need to work with the Skills & Balance team to make skill changes in support of these changes.

Can we make it so that sigils isn’t attached to the weapon itself but in a standalone slots? Which also would work better for the balancing of the game. When you got 2 classes that only has two sigils to work with at the time (ele and engi) this really becomes unfair when you see on the other classes who can use bloodlust on one weaponset and swich over to the other weapon set without the bloodlust sigl and still have the bloodlust effect activated.

Bloodlust would be removed.
