Oh, my bad. I don’t know why I always forget it is support@guildwars2.com. And I am sorry about being under the impression that it had been stated that that was the viable process for submitting attachments. My apologies.
No worries!
It’s best to submit a ticket for things that can be/would be handled through a ticket. I really don’t want the exploits address to be misused, as we need to keep that very, very topical to address issues ASAP.

We currently have no plans to implement an in-game voice communication client. There are plenty of viable third-party options available, such as Ventrilo, Teamspeak and Mumble.
The hackers most likely compromised your email account, asked CS for a password reset, then added a Mobile Authenticator to your game account. You would be well-advised to change the password to your email account immediately. Then create a new email account, and contact CS through that, and ask that your game account now be associated with the new account. Make sure to scan for keyloggers, virus, etc. beforehand, as well. Good luck.
This is excellent advice.

If anyone has questions, or feels s/he needs to add info or follow up on a ticket, we always suggest updating the ticket, to avoid creating new ones which truly do slow down response time.
To update a ticket, just respond to an e-mail in the ticket thread (usually the latest one, but any are ok) with the ticket number in the subject line. That will allow you to add info, ask a question, etc.

I’m sorry… I have been following this forum the last few weeks and I do wonder if the GW2 email list got compromised.
Absolutely not. And by that do you mean the e-mail addresses and the passwords?
No I mean I wondered if a GW2 related email list got acquired from somewhere and nothing to do with passwords. There are what, 100’s of millions of email addresses out there? It just seems that for hackers to have a starting point they would need a list otherwise it would be like finding a needle in a 20 square mile haystack.
Anyway I trust it wasn’t on Anet’s end but maybe another 3rd party GW2 related website where people used the same email address to register as they did for their GW2 account. Those hackers had to get a starting point from some place.
Oh I get it, JT! Thanks for explaining. I didn’t want to leave unremarked a comment that might be — as we sometimes see — “I wonder if ArenaNet was compromised.” That’s not the case, but sure, that whole spectre of the “known password” and “known e-mail address” lists is very real, and unfortunately some fansites and other third-party sites related to our game have had incidents, it’s true.

GM,
Hi there, Submitted a ticket yesterday(i honestly submitted one then someone said they escalated it and I would hear back once reviewed. I made another our of spite since I just purchased a transfer to play with friends. I understand I will get zzzed for that but what the hell I just dropped money to play with friends and got screwed over when I did have a complex password and a location identifier.(Everything has been changed again as well so no need for directing me to links)) for being stripped on my main char. I wanted to confirm whether or not I can still play on my alts without having to worry about a rollback. My tickets are 624021 and 624450 if they are needed.
Thanks,
Dan
This thread is not intended as a means of escalating tickets of <24 hours. It’s for tickets at least 3 days old.
But since you asked a question, if you are going to seek an account restoration, everything will be rolled back. So I would suggest you not play until after the account is set back to its closest “snapshot.”

I simply want to know more about what Anet is working on behind the scene, can we have more updates on whats happening internally? I’m sure most people probably don’t really care but I’m weird and do care, I want to see whats going on behind the curtain :/
Here’s a thread (lots of people care) with a Dev response, even! from a few days ago:

Scenario: an account is hacked, restored, and then hacked again because the user’s e-mail address is compromised, meaning all discussions with CS are read by the hacker. In some cases, the messages are intercepted, responded to, deleted, marked as read, etc., by the hacker.
Scenario: A re-hacked account may come about because the computer was not truly secured, and a keylogger still remains on the computer.
Scenario: The re-hacked account may be coming from an internal source, such as a friend or family member who accesses credentials because they’re written down at the home.
Your ‘perceived’ increase in account hacks is just that…perceived, not factual. If an actual DB breach had occurred, these forums would have 1000 times more “account hacked!”, threads.
Thank you. This is very true.

Your hacker has added an authenticator in order to use it to lock you out of the account. You’ll need to contact support (see the link at the top of the page) to get the authenticator removed.

Was one the character name, and one the Display name?
You can send screenshots to support@arena.net or exploits@arena.net
Either of those should get to the right team, I would think.
Neither of these addresses would be appropriate for this purpose:
Support@Arena.Net is an invalid address
Exploits@Arena.Net is intended only for game-breaking exploits
I think the display name/char name answer is the correct analysis of this situation, but you’re welcome to submit a ticket if you desire. If we need a screenshot we’ll get it from you.

Hey, my account was hacked last night. The only warning I had was an e-mail that let me know there was a log in attempt from a different area. I get on and both of my 80s have no armor and all of their weapons are gone as well as my bank goods and a lot of the stuff from my guild bank plus all of my gold. Is there a way to rollback what has hapened, and if so please tell me.
If it’s the email that I’m thinking of, someone with access to that email account has to respond and allow the log in attempt to proceed for the hacker to gain access to your game account. This means that the hacker has access to your email account and everything in it.
That is my concern, as well: That the e-mail account is compromised. We will help you change to a new, unique e-mail account if you wish to increase your security.

I’m sorry… I have been following this forum the last few weeks and I do wonder if the GW2 email list got compromised.
And by that do you mean the e-mail addresses and the passwords? If that happened, you’d see thousands of posts, not a dozen. The issues is coming from elsewhere, that seems clear.
The reason hacked account posts have risen is we’re behind in restorations, so issues of members who normally would be resolved in hours are extending over a few days, prompting them to post.
Secondly, RMTs are being hard-hit by our anti-RMT measures, and they are taking advantage of more “known password” lists to hack accounts. You might have been using the same credentials for 10 years, but that doesn’t mean those credentials are safe.
Lastly, the best security is a unique password (used nowhere else) and a unique e-mail address (used nowhere else) used as your log-in Account Name.
Having said all that, I still am baffled by TaintedSilver’s situation, and I’ll ask others to see if they have suggestions on how that occurred. But an ArenaNet or GW2 security breach? No, that’s not what happened.

Great show, Jeb. Looking forward to seeing other teams interviewed.
The thing is, players aren’t going to play the game how you envision it to be played, and that is where the miscommunication lies between the player base and the devs. You all have this perfect idea of how the game is suppose to be played but in reality players are going to look for the most over-powered spec to do what they need to get done.
Sorry for the confusion.
I wasn’t trying to describe a theoretical or “design intended” way to counter the build – I was simply stating what’s worked for me personally in top 50 team queue.
Hey guys,
I’m not the typical “spokesdev” around the forums, so I won’t be able to give you all the answers you are looking for about what’s next, but I’ll clarify a couple of points:
- The “usual suspects” who you would typically get answers from on this front have unquestionably been super busy getting the game out in China. A number of our devs were in China for the launch this past week, so I imagine that in addition to the hard work they put in over there to get the game launched, they’ll be returning home, getting over jet lag and catching their breath. I hope you can all understand that, and we appreciate your continued patience. We’re all as excited to share with you what’s coming next, as you are to hear it.
- There has been, and continues to be ongoing development on projects outside of China, with the team hard at work on Living World Season 2. I can’t say anything more than that yet, other than to reiterate that we’re excited to be able to share more info on it when the time comes.
- Come and check out the Festival of the Four Winds on Tuesday! Even if you experienced it back in July, we had a small-ish team revitalizing it to celebrate the China release, and there will be new things to do and see. :-)
Hello!
We’ve been getting a lot of players asking about having ‘The Hunter’ skin and don’t recall ever having this precursor rifle.
Fear not, you haven’t deleted a precursor. The skin was unlocked in your pvp locker at some point prior to April 15, 2014 and is now available in your wardrobe.
Also, if you haven’t visited The Heart of the Mists since the 15th and had previously participated in sPvP you should do so. We’ve seen some fantastic skins coming out of there!

Yeah, the Iron Legion in particular are all about continuing to build. One of the aesthetics we were going for (which you can see most in the vehicle bays just off the Mustering Ground) was that the Iron Legion were barely finished with one project before they started on another. The theory being “Why turn off the forge when there’s always another tank to build?”
The advice in this thread is valid: Please have your friend update her ticket (not make a new one) and the team can take a look!

Wow, Korimor, congratulations. That’s impressive!
The content in the Cliffs last year was all very specifically designed to support the story of the election that was happening between Ellen Kiel and Evon Gnashblade. It really wouldn’t have made sense to keep the map open without turning much of that content off, and that would have left the area feeling very empty and lifeless. There are other reasons beyond this, but for maps like this, which are based around a festival or a special event like the election, it just couldn’t have worked to keep it open year round. It’s only a few more days until you all get to play in the map again. I can’t read into the future, but we love the gameplay and the bizaare atmosphere of the bazaar, so I believe it will continue to be a setting we can return to when it fits with the story we’re trying to tell. :-)
~snip~
Overall, I think it’s less about good email provider security than whether or not any websites you ever used that email address at (and possibly the same password) have ever been compromised (and their user DB stolen and sold).
Obviously 2 step authentication on both the email associated with our GW2 account AND the GW2 account itself should lock down your account (but still use unique and strong passwords at every site). Strong means longer than 12 characters (46 character passwords are insane overkill).
Quoted. The advice you give is very valid, and I flagged a section I want to address. Yes, most compromise incidents are through lists shared amongst disreputable people, lists that contain data from hacked sites. Our security is good, but you all know of major sites (publishers, stores, and more) that have had security incidents that exposed personal information. Many accounts are hacked and identities are stolen using that information, not just in GW2, of course, but in a variety of sensitive areas.

If your e-mail address is similar, then those unscrupulous people with access to valid e-mail addresses might try variations. In fact, I imagine they have systems that do it automatically.
For example, say your e-mail account is GamePlayer@gmail.com. A company might try GamePlayer@[insert every other major e-mail provider here] to see if they get a “hit.”
If the new e-mail address is completely different, I think there’s a small chance that your computer has a keylogger and the thief simply has not accessed the account yet. (I might be overly worried, but that’s my first impression.) On the other hand, why would a would-be thief attempt to reset the password if s/he has a keylogger…?
As for the password reset page, I think I know why it functions as it does. If our reset system said “This account is not recognized. Please try again” that would reveal something, right? That would mean when the would-be thieves saw the “An e-mail has been sent” message only for valid Account Names, they would know that that particular e-mail address is a valid Guild Wars 2 account name. And clearly, that’s information we don’t want to provide them.
So that is why we don’t say “yea” or “nay” to a request, but simply (invisibly) send an e-mail when the account is valid and not send a-mail to an invalid Account Name. In that way, we’re not furnishing any information to would-be thieves.

The API fixes will go out with our upcoming 5/20 release. I wasn’t sure of the date until recently.
Regarding a megaserver-compatible live events API: For a few reasons, there are no plans to build this in the short/medium term, unfortunately.
As a thief, going for a decap on far whenever it’s available isn’t always the best option – you need to make sure your mid and home fights are in a decent place to attempt it. If you leave graveyard on Foefire and your team gets decapped because they were down in numbers…that’s going to hurt your team a lot more than getting a decap on the enemy team’s home node is going to hurt them. The absolute best time to get a decap on far is when you stomp a player out in the mid-fight – this should give your team the numbers advantage at mid, and you have a good 30 seconds before the player on respawn can get to their home node. If they send another player from mid to defend against your decap, they will almost certainly lose the mid-fight.
To learn to rotate properly your best bet is to understand the entire team/conquest strategy in general. I’d recommend checking out Django’s guide for a quick primer.
You’ll make mistakes – everyone does. The key is to not let those occasions – or the players you’re teamed up with – get under your skin.
Edit: As the posters above mentioned, don’t get too tied up looking at personal score.
Here’s my 2c:
I’d assume the main time you’d face off against a turret decap engineer is if they push into your home point and you’re stuck defending against it. Your best bet in this situation is to engage the engineer as far away from the node as possible and to deal damage to them as you chase them to the point. Their strength comes from having their turrets down in a confined area, and they’re not going to waste them by dropping them in roads somewhere. Just make sure you don’t get CC’d in roads and then decapped for free.
If you’re solo pushing far and trying to get a node from a decap engineer who is playing backpoint…well, you’re both doing it wrong.
Hmmm… I guess what I can say here is that if those mails came from us, that means someone knows your Account Name (user name or log-in name). The fact there’s been no access is great, and you’ve followed very sensible security protocols. (I would be remiss in not saying that sometimes someone gets all needed information to access an account but waits and uses it later. I’d call that percentage pretty small, though.)
On the other hand, this definitely could be random: Some RMT company acquire a list of “One Gazillion Valid E-mail Addresses!” and then spam those addresses to see if they can match them with a list of known passwords. With what you’ve done, and because, as you said, you’ve “checked my account management, no unusual logins, have the authenticator installed, and e-mail and game password are unique and not shared with any other games / websites. Only buy my gems from the ingame store, and don’t visit any other fan forums” I think you’re pretty secure.
If this is a concern and you’d like to change your user name, please go ahead and submit a ticket (click “Support” above, then “Submit a request”). I get sent about a half-dozen to a dozen phishing attempts a week. I know they are just sent out to people without the sender knowing anything else. And yes, I’ve gotten the “attempted password change” e-mails a few times as well and all has been ok.
But again, we’re happy to help you if you’d like to change to another Account Name.

Here’s what I recommend, because sadly, there are quite a few non-legitimate “sellers” who will be happy to take your money but not provide a valid serial code for the game:
- Go to this page: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/retailers/#UnitedStates-physical
- Choose your country
- Choose Retail Locations or Digital Download
- If you do not see that vendor, I strongly recommend you not purchase from them, for if they are not on the list then they are not an authorized seller.
I simply recommend that you purchase from someone you can trust, from someone on that list or directly from our site.

You did not purchase the Riding Broom. As an agent explained to you today, “Upon further investigation, we checked your gem purchases but we were not able to verify that a Riding Broom was purchased only a Witch’s Outfit that comes with a Toy Broom. As previously stated we will not be able to offer a refund for such item.”
If you had a Riding Broom, then perhaps it was gifted to you, as you mentioned in your first post. If that is the case, we cannot refund gems to you for an item that was purchased by someone else. But I believe that you were mistaken about the nature of the item, that you did not make the purchase (because game logs would reflect that purchase), and that the response by the agent answers the question completely.
