I see from the blog the implications the mega server has for event timers has yet to be addressed.

We will be addressing this in part 2/3. Sorry for the delay, I’m guessing it was decided that each portion of this announcement was big enough to deserve it’s own news day. Given the volume of posts in this thread, it might be for the best.

I’ve definitely simplified the way it actually works with the above description. A more accurate way of putting it would be to say that when you travel/log-in to a map, the game finds the best instance to put you in at that time. But the game won’t remove you from a map forcibly and put you in another.

I know we don’t really speak well of the CDIs at times, but they did make a post addressing how they understand the World Identity is too important based on player feedback, so I don’t know that they would change something in that direction. Of course all we can do for now is speculate.

To quell speculation early, that is not what we are doing. The announcement will have more info, but we are absolutely not getting rid of worlds and putting everyone into an EotM type system.

Hey there,

First, I’d advise not putting the client in your Documents folder as this can create more issues in the long run.

Secondly, can you clarify the “nada” when you try to run the installer? Are you getting any error messages at all? What exactly is happening? The more info you are able to provide the more quickly myself or someone else can give you some insight on this issue.

Before, you would get new skins in spurts each time you gained 10 ranks, but had diminishing returns very quickly. With rewards tracks you’ll get consistent skin unlocks via random drops (mob loot) and through specific weapon-choice boxes. It is true some things will be leaving PvP like cultural sets on the glory vendor, but since they only cost gold, you can go buy them with your PvP earnings.

i understand this part:

people will now drop loot in pvp? OR you talk bout this svanir mobs ? Or you call minions from necro mob? Would be nice when they drop now loot from his master – could be nice fix for minion master ^^

The rewards from the reward tracks are meant to simulate mob drops. You’re getting items in the form of bouncy chests at the end of matches still. For instance, progressing region-themed tracks will give you items that the mobs from those regions drop.

Since the bouncy chests are back, does this mean if you transfer from one region tothe other will they break like they did last time?

No, the rewards are immediate and persist directly on your account.

Hi Tipsy,

First, I’d advise checking for two applications to see if they’re running in the background on your system as they’ve been known to throw this error: Premier Opinion and/or Relevant Knowledge.

If you don’t have either of those, try this:

1. Locate the file “GW2.exe” and right-click it, selecting “Create Shortcut.”
2. Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Port Test.”
3. Right-click on this shortcut and select “Properties.”
4. Edit the “Target” line to include /clientport 80 at the end. Note: Please make sure /clientport 80 is outside of the quotes.
— Correctly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe” /clientport 80
— Incorrectly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe /clientport 80”
5. Once completed, click “Ok” to save your changes. If you get an error trying to save, your target line may not have the correct format. Please try Step 4 again.
6. Double click “Guild Wars 2 Port Test” and try connecting again.

Long term goals aren’t a bad thing. Even after the re-balance, it will take the average player a very long time to reach 80 and will still be the long term goal for most people.

It’s important to have goals for different time commitments. Short term goal could be reward tracks or some skins. Medium term goals could be season rewards and a ladder. Long terms goals could be a legendary, rank 80 (for most people) or possibly multi-season rewards and yearly tournaments.

What kind of long-term rewards would people like to see? Maybe a rank 80 ‘prestige’ system is something to explore.

If you were charged and did not receive your gems, please submit a ticket. Use “Did not receive purchased gems” in the subject line if you’re making a new ticket. If you already submitted a ticket, that’s great, and please do not start another ticket.

Hi everyone!

First of all, thank you for your overwhelming involvement in commenting this feature. It has been very exciting for me to work on, and I am glad and proud that this excitement is shared by a lot of you!

As Colin mentioned, a lot of your concerns are to be addressed in the upcoming blog posts. I also wanted to answer some of the questions that I’ve seen on this thread.

How does the system know which language I want to use?
The system uses the language spoken in your home world (or your guested world, if you’re guesting). It doesn’t use the language of your client. It is done this way so there is no conflict of priorities between the home world and the language in the algorithm (as both are always aligned), and because in my mind, when you’ve picked your home world, you’ve picked the community you want to play with. And while you may want to set your client to a different language (because you’re better at it, or because you want to learn it), you still want to play with people from that community.

Will this system breaks existing communities?
The whole goal of this new system is to enhance the in-game social environment. We completely get that the community of your home world is important to you, and this is why MegaServers takes that into account. But I also think that with this tool, we can go further. While home world communities are important, they are also very abstract. Choosing which home world to pick is a difficult task, even more difficult when you’re playing the game for the first time, because more often than not, you don’t know what the differences are between each of those worlds. Also, home worlds communities can be quite unbalanced, population wise.

With MegaServers, the idea is to start taking into account more meaningful data to create communities. People you’re playing with, people sharing your interests or your goals, … We want to try to create this “town-like” feeling, in which while there are a lot of different people, you are also encountering the same ones frequently enough to be able to establish meaningful relationships.

This is one of the long term goals for this new system. On April 15th, we’re introducing the core elements that makes it possible, and in this configuration, the home world you’ve picked is very important. And for the other informal communities, we will monitor and adapt the system accordingly.

Once again, thank you for your comments, questions and involvement in this process! I’ll keep an eye on this thread as much as my tight schedule allows me to.

I can’t reproduce that issue, I’ve now done the story step 3 times in a row with no issues. Picking up 6 relics without finding the scabbard will mark it on the map. There’s nothing preventing it from being picked up—were you getting an F interact prompt? The inability to use skills is also suspicious, since the scabbard does not disable or affect your skills in any way.

Sorry for the confusion in the User Interface. It is and has been misleading, but Guild Wars 2 has no support for Spanish as an audio language, only as text. There are no current plans to add Spanish as an audio language either, and fixing the misleading UI isn’t a simple matter.

French and German are audio languages, however, so changing to those languages and restarting the game client should prompt for downloading the missing language files.

To maximize your odds of running into other RP players more often, you’ll want to make sure you’re on the same world (generally TC and Piken are viewed as the RP worlds), and in guilds with other RP members also on that same world. For example, everyone from TC currently will be set to high priority to sort together, same thing goes with people who are all a part of the same guild (so guild up RP folks!)

We’ll continue to monitor, adapt and update the system as we go forward as well, for now I’d suggest seeing how it works once we enable the mega server system across all maps and then giving comments and feedback when you see it in action!

Vanishing money is never a good thing, for sure! Don’t worry, judging by the e-mail threads this should be very short lived. In fact, I’m almost tempted to say “Try again” now, but I’d give it a few more minutes at least.

If there are any issues with purchases after the system is back online – for instance, if you believe you may have inadvertently made a double purchase – contact Support and we’ll take care of you!

Superb! Thanks so much, I’m online on GW2 so I’ll keep an eye out and see what happens Would the money be refunded or the gems come through? (I’d prefer the latter, but, just so I know.)

Fair question. What I’ve seen — and I’m no expert, but basing on observations — most purchases get sort of “queued up” and they happen if there’s a glitch in the system or they never get transacted at all. Very, very seldom are they processed where someone is charged but the gems don’t arrive. That’s so rare I think I’ve only known of a half-dozen cases total.

So if you were in the midst of a purchase and it failed, most likely you were not charged for the gems and can simply transact the purchase again. If you then see two delivery mails and you only wanted to buy once, of if the very rare happens and you were charged and never got the gems, once that’s all verified the team can help you resolve any issues.

I want to emphasize that usually when you get an error your transaction didn’t go through and you’re free to start anew, but to be conservative you could of course wait a good few hours and see if the gems “drop down” into your mailbox and if the charges appear on your CC.

All this from a non-expert, just an observer, but I hope it helps.

Update I posted and then checked e-mail. The team is aware of this issue, and an e-mail was sent to get everyone on board to resolve this as quickly as possible. In the meantime, the Buy Gems and Code Redeem (Billing) page will reflect that the system is in maintenance mode while it gets fixed.

Thanks for posting, and please give it a bit of time and try again. I will try to post an “all clear” but the fix may happen in the wee hours of the morning, so if you wanted to try in a few hours, that would be terrific!

You appear to have come across someone who was cheating, in fact, who probably is using an exploit within the game. This is, of course, against the UA and the RoC.

As you noticed, we do not have an in-game means of reporting cheating or exploiting, mostly because the in-game system doesn’t have the capacity to take detailed reports. In-game reports work great for some things. For instance, glagging an offensive character name is easy, and the team is able to see that report virtually in real time and take action real soon. But sending an in-game report about cheating or exploiting would not give us enough details to review the situation to determine what took place and how we should react to it.

For this sort of issue, please send an e-mail with details — time, time zone, character name or display name (when available — I realize you could not see the name), date, and details of what took place. Send the email to this address: Exploits@Arena.Net.

If this is the guild I recall — and given the tag, I believe it is — I’m quite surprised that you’d be asking a question about the guild’s disbandment. The name was offensive, the tag was offensive, and the guild ranks were offensive. They were intentionally, crudely, unacceptably wrong in direct violation of several components of the Naming Policy.

This thread is locked, and I strongly suggest that if you reform as a guild, you consider your guild name and guild tag very carefully. At some point, those who choose offensive names risk account suspension, even account termination.

You could contact support? Just a thought.

There is no point in doing so. Everyone who reviewed this case agreed the name was offensive. and there is no room for appeal.
