Taunt or how GW2 becomes WoW

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dazed
this is dazed a status effect in which you can not move or attack.
taunt will be similar onyl that you run toward an enemy you didnt target and attacl wtih auto attack, meaning you could attack a mob with retaliation which could kill you

Actually the descripion we have for it mentions running to, and attacking, the opponent you have targeted. It doesn’t mention forcing you to target a specific enemy, and in fact doesn’t say whether you will be able to switch targets or not.
Basically, it seems to not be a taunt, but a form of berserk rage.

This is the important part:

We have many different status effects in Guild Wars 2 that accomplish a variety of goals, such as knockdown, knockback, and daze. In this expansion, we wanted to open up gameplay options using taunt. Taunt will be used to both reposition foes and change your foes’ targets. For example, when used on players, it will force the taunted player to run at their target with their skill bar locked—minus stun breakers—and only use their autoattack skill to attack. This gives us the opportunity to use taunt in multiple ways, not just as a player skill, but also as a tool to create interesting creature encounters that utilize this taunt effect against players.

First bold part: In PVE mobs will change targets and attack the one using the skill. It’s clear from the blog post that Taunt WILL change the target of a mob.

Second bold part: In PVP, Taunt will work differently, as it will FORCE the taunted player to run to the target they already have and use auto attacks on them.

@the OP
A simple Taunt skill like that won’t make the game like WoW or any kind of Trinity nonsense we read lately. In other games Taunt puts the one using it on the TOP of the threat list, we have ZERO indication that Taunt in GW2 will also put the player using it on the TOP of the threat list. Until that’s clarified there is no reason to call this “tanking” or “trinity”

the thing that people are missing is that attacks from mobs mostly hit the whole party.
so stacking and using taunt means nothing.
Unless people won’t stack anymore, which is a very welcomed change

That might work for something like the trinity but not for the players.
I think it could work for bosses, something like the molten 2 bosses, what if the other one’s “enrage” was spamming aoe that gives taunt and forces you to switch targets.

Think about and READ the full details before you come to whine about stuff

New dungeons?

it is obvious that the PvE player base is much bigger than pvp\wvw player base.

I really think they should give torches a revamp, they’re useless on all classes unless you go for a specific build in pvp

guards are the best healers in pvp and wvw, they won’t focus on healers unless the new content is truly hard and your endurance bar + healing skill won’t be enough for you to survive.

Because I didn’t see you make a “could we all stop instantly speculating about how awesome things might (but probably won’t) be?” thread, I’m just going to assume this is nothing more than a “your not welcome here unless you agree with me” topic.

This thread was made for the people that are always negative about changes and always assume the worst case scenario, and they like to complain about how bad the content will be even though they know nothing about it.

And my post was made to ask why similar threads aren’t made for the people who are always positive about changes and always assume the best case scenario, and they get excited about how good the content will be even though they know nothing about it.

Double standards, my friends…if praise and excitement are acceptable, then criticism and skepticism should be too.

No.
Over hyping the content is even worse.

Why? because if you hype it and get the hopes up in the sky, then the expansion can never meet your expectations.

this sub forum was made to discuss the expansion and speculate about stuff “threads like what to expect every class’ specialization and sharing your thoughts on what you wish to find… etc”

I was surprised that I found 95% of the threads are either overly concerned and negative people bashing the devs, or people hyping other people up like they’re getting paid to play

Abdulaziz.1496

They mighr get a magical weapon.
Remember that the weap you get will change some mechanics and replace some skills with new ones.
I think that means they’ll remove a whole category of utility skills for a class and give it a new one that suits the specialization.

For example, warriors might get a magical weapon and replace all Physical urility skills with new set of skills

Abdulaziz.1496

How is it “unbalanced” ?
if you’re talking about duels, then that means nothing because we don’t have official dueling servers and you can always run away if you feel overwhelmed.

in any game or anything, certain builds\classes\strategies will beat certain builds\classes\strategies. You just have to deal with it.

all classes have their strengths and weaknesses

Are you saying all patches were unnecessary and we need to revert back to beta?

most of these “balancing” patches were actually fixing existing skills that wasn’t functioning the way they should, or give some skills more usability because no one is using them and anet wants people to use different builds.

And in some cases some skills were very powerful and needed a nerf.

Even these classes with some OP skills can easily lose to other classes that counters them.

Mesmers need Hammers!

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Abdulaziz.1496

Well, that’d be quite OP in pvp.
also, what Mesmers really need is a new MH weapon that doesn’t suck cough scepter.

What I really think is that the specialization for mesmers wil either give them MH pistol “sloves everything IMO” or changes the existing skills for some weapons.

Mesmers are already pretty good at cc and have tons of dazes and almost every weapon have a cc

it’s funny because mes was supposed to be control role , but ele , war , engi
and thief has far more cc than mes could use(all cc mes have are with long cd) . A heavy interrupt CI build requires daze mantra. It’s sad to see after 2 years people still like to spread rumors about mes.

in pve mesmer is better, it takes nothing for a mesmer to remove all 5 stacks of defiance.
3 clones along with mantra and maybe signet if you really want to spec for cc, not to mention the 1 cc you get from weapons “use sword off hand and it’ll have like only 10 secs cd”

Also, please tell me where I went wrong and “spread rumors about mes”

“it takes nothing "just lol , are u talking about thief? can u read the skill cd , and do u even know that diversion requires some placement of illusion to make it work as 3 times of cc . And such thing is just not happening in most pve dungeons and fractal fight . (all your illusions and a skill slot for mantra so mesmers finally have same amount of cc skills as ele but still less than war , engi and thief . )

Daze mantra is great in pve for defiance removal , vulnerability stack and interrupting some mobs skills in certain situation. So yeah if u want to play something heavy cc on mesmer u have to use mantra because your weapon skills aren’t enough.

about offhand sword ,its 12s cd , 10s if traited .But its just slow and in many situation unreliable. Also with it mes still have less cc than war , thief and engi from weapon set .Its just a pure fact . Personally i never saw ppl complain about cc mesmers do in pvp .
Most are about engi and war ,thief comes second.

I never said they were the best at cc because their CC’s are mostly dazes which is no where near Engi knockbacks are warrior’s stuns.
I can argue with thieves because the best they can do is their elite, if they wanted to use the pistol for cc’s they’ll lose a lot of initiative for no damage. other sword cc’s I find them not really that good and it’s better to spec for something else.

The only classes I find better than mesmer at cc in pvp are Engi, Warr and Fearmancers.

mesmers are good at cc “not op, that’s why no one complains”

My point was that a clone that does passive CC is OP..
That spirit hammer for guards is powerful, imagine if mesmers can have 2-3 of those up and they does CC every 6-8 seconds!
I think all passive CC should be removed from the game “destroying turrets, ranger pets… etc”

But I agree that mesmers should at least be 2nd best class at cc’s since they have a lot of traits for cc.

If they got hammer, I don’t want it to be another generic CC hammer. I want something else. The Mesmer’s greatsword is unique when compared to the other classes who use greatsword, so hammer should be the same. The whole concept of the Mesmer is channelling magic into melee weapons, and knocking people down like every other hammer user doesn’t seem very magical or creative.

I agree 100%.

I like how unique the GS with mesmers is

Make Necro Greatsword a raw damage weapon

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Abdulaziz.1496

Abdulaziz.1496

Necros aren’t “bad” because they have bad dps.
Necros aren’t welcome in parties because they’re a selfish class, they don’t contribute to the party by anything.

They don’t have any useful buffs and their utility is “meh” which makes them more of a solo class

you’re so wrong… About the selfish part
3/0/5/6/0 transfusion (D/F & Stff) necro The first has more toughness, will do his buffs on bigger area’s,
(alt version 6/0/2/6/0 The second has 50 power more and a bit more dps when foe is below 50% health)
BOTH will provide aoe healing also on dodge, on staff 2, on heal skill, on transfusion, and focus 4 and give aoe protection on 4 wells. It will provide boon stripping, (AOE) blindness, vulnerability, chill, poison, interupts (fears),weakness. I’ll ignore the bleeds.
You can remove conditions with a kill or with staff 4 transfering them to enemies.

With runes of dwayna <- yes HEALING RUNES You’ll be doing good damage and add a huge amount of survivability. You could add Zealots armor, adding to the healing further.

OR

You could ignore the above suggestion and go for full zerk with runes of the pack, which could add the call of the wild ranger warhorn skill when hit, buffing your part for 13 seconds of might (1), fury and swiftness, every 20 seconds if needed… to all mentioned things above.

You should try it. It will make you rethink things. and see how a dps support NECRO can be of use in a dungeon run.

But I agree 6/6/0/0/2 necro is not very interesting, and is a selfish build. somewhat like 6/5/0/0/3 warrior (try 4/4/6/0/0) or
4/5/0/1/4 guardian… (try 2/5/0/6/1) or
6/2/2/2/2 staff ele, (try 6/2/0/2/4), (0(2)/2/0/6/6(4)) or
DPS thief or DPS mesmer, or DPS ranger for that matter.

I’d appreciate if necro GS would become a true hybrid weapon, providing above avg DPS and good conditions

Necro isn’t in a bad place DPS wise, actually they deal massive DPS when they transform.

Area blinds? thieves does that much better and deal much more DPS.

I’m talking about the “meta” where you want fast runs, where defensive boons aren’t that helpful and yet any guardian can provide them passively without sacrificing any DPS.

What could fix necros is giving them a few blast finishers and a trait or skill that increases the party’s damage in a unique way “Like frost spirit, banners, empower allies… etc”

But if they gave the GS higher DPS than other weaps and some blast finishers in the utility, I’m pretty sure necros will be more than welcome in fast runs parties

Besides the fact a Necro can solo some of the hardest bosses in Fractals, I am sorry we need to bring something for you too. Since when does a kitten ton of damage not considered contributing? Lol. Let me bring another class that provides regen for everyone and does 75% less damage. You don’t need more regen (then we already provide & protection) when the crap dies 10 times faster. Countless stories of an entire party wiping on bosses and NEcro being the only one alive and continues to solo the last 75% of the bosses health while the rest lie on the floor. Maybe other classes need to build better and bring more buffs of their own. Necro’s aren’t the ones dying and definitely not the ones putting out low damage.

Haters gonna hate

That’s wrong on so many levels.
Necros don’t contribute to the party DPS wise.
Eles does much more dps while keeping perma fury and at least 15 stacks of might “staff ele”. Can you compete with that?

Warriors deal mediocre DPS but they have banners which is a huge DPS increase that only they have.

Even rangers have Spotter and Frost spirit.

I can keep going about how other classes benefit the party in a way a necro couldn’t.

and if you’re party is bad enough to leave you alone vs the boss, then you must have a horrible party.

Abdulaziz.1496

For all those using TV shows as an analogy; keep in mind that you are paying for a service package to watch the channel to begin with; be it cable or satellite. Even if you’re going through Hulu or Netflix, you’re still paying a fee to watch those episodes. So they aren’t technically free to begin with. The only real exception to this is if you’re watching ‘local’ channels, which is not what the majority of you are talking / thinking about.

Anywho, back on topic, I’m perfectly fine with this route – LS leading up and into the expansion story line. It’s actually what I’ve suggested they do since very early in the LS development. I rather like it, personally.

Except that you can since you are paying for your internet service already to play GW2. I can watch my TV shows on Hulu from the internet for free , all I have to do is pay for my internet service. So yah if you look at it that way you can compare.

Living Story had a rocky start and it just started getting really good, but now Anet is throwing that away because some people can’t get away from old habits.

except that ANET doesn’t get anything from your internet service.

I know some other MMOs that require a monthly fee and then you have to pay for expansions.

Precursors Collection

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Abdulaziz.1496

Abdulaziz.1496

I really, really hope that the collection items will involve a fair mix of PvP, WvW and PvE, but I doubt it. But it’s the only way for the weapon to be truly legendary, imo.

WvW players will complain of PvE / PvP players in their area not doing the jobs they should have done. Not being on TS and not following the commander or his orders.

PvP players will complain cause they actually always do. Next to that there are WvW / PvE players ruining their games and they’ll rage even more.

PvE players (dungeon / fractal runners) will complain cause WvW / PvP players are not exp in dungeons, don’t know what to do, and can’t stay alive against slow attacking mobs / bosses.

Conclusion:
Everyone will rage and complain for doing content they don’t like and for others ruining the content they do like..

So the collection should be in open world, with other words in the non-instanced jungle (if there even are instances in the jungle).

No one should complain.
if you’re good enough on WvW you should be on a guild that does closed raids with only the “Pros”
if you’re good enough on PvP you should have your own team, don’t queue alone and then rage because the pugs aren’t doing what you want because no one cares about what you want.
if you’re good in PvE and dungeons you should have your own group, YOU CAN EVEN SOLO DUNGEONS.

If you want to do things with pugs then you don’t have the right to rage about them.

The trailer showed that mesmer with sword MH and shield OH.

it’s either that or they might get MH pistol “They already use pistols, and anet said only 1 NEW weapon”
if it’s just a shield I’ll be very disappointed since they only have sword for melee.
Scepter isn’t melee and it’s direct damage is almost 0, they really need a direct damage MH weapon other than sword

They said one NEW weapon, they didn’t say “Chronomancers” won’t use a two-handed sword. Nothing proves that the scepter won’t be more powerful in that specialization.

Remember they could have not added specializations, but instead just a bunch of useless utility skills. One specialization is just the beginning, so don’t complain before you see the full potential of the mesmer, be grateful they gave us the opportunity to personalize our characters deeper.

I do love the idea..
But the scepter for mesmer is known to be a condi weapon, I really hope that if you sprcialize you can change that.. that’d be so nice and I really think it might happen since the scepter on mesmer is one of the weapons they always try to change\fix in order for players to use it more..

But who says, let’s say, a Mesmer’s MH sword won’t have new skills when they are specialized as “Chronomancer”?

it’s either that or they might get MH pistol “They already use pistols, and anet said only 1 NEW weapon”
if it’s just a shield I’ll be very disappointed since they only have sword for melee.
Scepter isn’t melee and it’s direct damage is almost 0, they really need a direct damage MH weapon other than sword

I agree with you. Besides, they expect to earn much more on Q3-Q4 of 2015.. so I think it’s safe to assume it’s the expansion.
although I’d very much like it earlier

I don’t want the old LA, if they’re going to rebuild it then I want a new LA.
I personally like this LA, though it is ugly I like how close the crafting stations from the TP and the Mystic toilet.

I’m more conserned about what we’ll get while waiting for the x-pac since I’m pretty sure we’ll be waiting for at least 8 months

Specialization = Trinity?

One of the great things about GW1 was that you clearly had tank and healer archetypes but neither were mandatory for clearing challenging content.

Personal opinion.

I have no problem with an optional trinity.

you already have optional trinity :P

you can get a zerker ele that’s dps, cleric guard as healer and pvt warrior as the tank..
almost all classes have the traits and the skills to spec for any role of the trinity

Specialization = Trinity?

Nope.
There won’t be trinity in GW2 because it’s not designed for it and we don’t need it.
Every class can heal its self and can be tanky by switching gear and traits.

Also, Engineers wear mid armor not heavy.

Let's Talk About: Specializations

I would really like to know if there is something more than just a fancy name about those specializations… because if you get new weapon, skills and some traits, it doesn’t mean it’s any different, there should be something what makes the druid different from ranger, a reason not to specialize… otherwise they could just add new weapon and skills without a need to call it specialization… specialization implies you get something in a trade for something else so I expect more than just unlocked 1 weapon, few skills and few traits…

it probably means that in ther future we’ll get new specializations and you can pick 1 to spec for, which means if you want skills X you can’t pick weapon Y.

As for the quote that says every class gets 1 new weapon, that doesn’t rule out a MH pistol for mesmers since it wouldn’t be a new weapon, they’d just learn how to use it differently.

So how many Revenants...

I’d power level my revenant to 80 with tomes but first I’ll unlock and try everything new on my mesmer and maybe even ele..
