Admit that it was a little op… You was capable of teleport to 2400 range in two seconds and having 30 energy at the end…. Need a little cd to me.
the cast time is 1 second, so it takes around 3 seconds to go the full 2400. And thieves can do 3900 in the same time, but in any direction rather than towards a specific target, assuming a target actually exists otherwise the revenant is stuck. The ability was dumb, this made it worse.
I don’t like that definition because it’s too broad. I’m not gay but apparently I’m “sexist” for not dating men. A better definition would be wanting to reinforce roles, like telling women they must stay in the kitchen or forcing them to wear burqas. I’m not sexist since I believe in equal rights.
Sexism or gender discrimination – prejudice or discrimination based on a person’s sex or gender.
but also remember that
Discrimination – treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing is perceived to belong to rather than on individual merit.
wheras orientation is a “pattern in preference”, not the avoidance of a merit based system due to ‘group’, as worded above (or even more generally). all the definitions discussed so far hold and are consistent
It isn’t OP, but it is abit overkill with axe 4 in terms of sticking to enemies.
I would prefer a blink or a “ride the lightning” type ability anyway. That way Revenant has more control over where it is they are dashing towards (for leading/commanding) and also have a proper disengage ability.
thieves still have more mobility if they have a shortbow. Shiro as an assassin is pretty much as close to a thief as you can get, so why not make him mobile? But if necessary the range of PT can be reduced or otherwise the energy cost increased to make up for a more useful ability.

i prefer the new system
And what about dashes, rushes and teleports?
Swiftness is kind of given, it was abit strange when Rev was released without it available
For ooc mobility your only option is to target an enemy in the distance and press Phase Traversal to travel 1200 yards. You can do this about 3 times before you should switch out and there is a slight delay.
I would prefer a 900 yard ability that is simpler and doesn’t restrict you to a target, but I’ve said that a fair few times now
the skill is fine

UA is perfectly fine, I don’t think this will get changed.
Large changes are still perfectly feasible imo. but there are way too many threads on this subforum. As a result I don’t think all ideas will be seen or fully considered, and so the reality will be little change.
Yes disengage is very difficult, I said right at the beginning that Phase Traversal should be the main dash/leap/jump/disengage by not requiring a target (and if necessary reduce range to 900).
A step was made in this direction by allowing it to work on targets in the distance, and I don’t think anyone has said it is strong at all after this change despite it essentially working like it doesn’t have a target. But it is still a little clunky as you have to zig zag between targets.
I don’t think asking for a targetless ability is too much compared to guardians, warriors, thieves, mesmers, and clever ele’s.
Riposting Shadows is useful to remove cripple/chill, but it is not a disengage as it still keeps you very much in combat range. I also don’t recommend buffing this ability at all because changing PT above will kill many birds with one stone.
The other alternative is to increase the range and reduce the cooldown of staff, but I feel PT would be far more balanced as it requires assassin stance (which imo fits the ‘disengage’ idea nicely). Glint elite is more of a support allies ability, especially with superspeed to allies, and in PvP is extremely easy to counter so I wouldn’t recommend that either. A PT mechanic change is my vote.

This doesn’t need any changes.
Revenant heal is similar to warrior with an extra second, but the class is much more restricted in completely different ways. A smaller health pool is one of them, no access without channeling Glint is another.
No mesmer worth bringing to a group WOULD EVER NOT BRING CHRONOMANCER.
Alacrity is a 66% recharge rate reduction for the entire group
not quite, alacrity will only apply to the 1s or 2 seconds it is on you out of the total recharge
The group will only get 1.3 seconds of a long cd from standing in a traited well. Assuming the mesmer runs wells and traits them.
The rest of Alacrity are from the phantasm from a “shield mesmer” blocking an attack, which has a large wind up and sacrifices a massive amount of mesmer damage for a 0.7 second cooldown per phantasm, people have rightly argued it is many many times better to just bring another elementalist.
shatter traited alacrity, only applies to the mesmer, assuming the mesmer has the opportunity and the clone creation to run shatters. it is possible to acheive 100% alacrity on a shatter mesmer, but this means sacrificing everything else (and is actually difficult to manage, losing all utilities and remember shatters=phantasm die, one of which is giving you alacrity!, and auto attack damage). again, this only applies to the mesmer anyway. Mesmers want this trait removed
Overall, the recharge given to the group will be around 1%-5% depending on the number of wells. And this might not necessarily affect a skills rotation at all (0% dps), as unlike quickness your cast times are unaffected.
Most HoT changes have been designed around PvP
(edited by Akamaru.7415)
Exactly, it isn’t game breaking because I feel each strike in a chain is supposed to have roughly equal value. However it does seem abit more obvious/buggy with Revenant because of the red trails
The attack chain is Prep Thrust > Brutal Blade > Rift Slash
however,
Prep Thrust requires melee range,
and then say you’re slightly out of melee range (say because your opponent dodged away), Prep Thrust changes to Brutal Blade
but, Brutal Blade can now be spammed until the first red blade travels and actually connects with the target, this means that I can have up to 3 Brutal Blades (probably more with quickness) on the go until 1 of them hits something, and all 3 will hit twice.
(aside: you can also queue a second brutal blade even when the first connects before the second casts, and so can acheive this near melee range)
Only when Brutal Blade hits something will it change to Rift Slash
This can be fixed by changing BB>RS on cast rather than on hit. I imagine there might be a similar problem if there are any other ranged on hit abilities, allowing them to be used more than once.
it looks nice if you are afk in silverwastes, i get that people like being the center of attention
but actively; seeing anyone else but yourself with a yellow circle flying all over the map is annoying
I like it the way it is. It lets me see what facets and how much energy degen I have without looking down at my skillbar, while being bold enough that it doesn’t get obscured by other effects.
?
The actual indicative part (the edges) are much less obvious than the cosmetic centre part, which is the part we are actually talking about in this thread. You also need to look at your skillbar to play gw2, and even more so with revenant. It also gets completely obscured by any active gameplay, other than afk in lions arch.
and reduce PT’s range to 900 so you still get to keep the thief meta (of course)
So, I feel like by introducing boons with the Herald, and all the changes so far, the class finally belongs in gw2, and is by far my favourite class, can’t wait till October. Thank you to whoever allowed the ability to instantly double cast Facet to get its “active” straight away, rather than being stuck with a cast time.
I feel 2 nuisances atm are:
The Herald yellow circle – this could do with alot more transparency, and also maybe no ‘yellow’ colour in the main circle
Phase traversal – is the main leap/jump/dash for revenant, and yet it still requires a critter in the distance. This makes leading as a Revenant difficult as you have to zig zag your way to your objective [I am desperately trying to catch up with my comm right now ]. Would it be possible to copy either the normal dash/leap mechanic for warriors/guardians or the ride the lightning mechanic (since it is the closest ability already in game) to allow it to work without a target.
Hey all,
Am I the only one that dislikes having the ground animation on upkeep skills all the time? I understand the intention (it visually tells you how many upkeeps you have), and its pretty by itself, but it gets annoying to watch all the time when you’re outside of combat and simply want your swiftness buff. It clashes with the legendary’s footstep effects, and you’re pretty much stuck to having it glued to your character while roaming. And roaming is something that you’re going to do for the entire game.
My suggestion to Anet is to make it pop up/ fade in only while in combat.
I made a post about this a while ago. I really really love the concept
but I think the yellow colour and level of opacity is a little obnoxious. I would be incredibly happy if the centre circle was toned down to match the style of the outer indicators
herald is pretty cool in that it allows boon stacking and situational utilities as well as ur primary stance. I really like it, I do see where you are coming from with it being an elite spec, but I think the herald fills a large void for the revenant and definitely functions differently to the core class.
(my only minor concern is the flashing traffic light underneath your character which doesn’t look very realistic)
i think they are all fine for the zones they are in and given the nature of the game.
I would like to see more frequent and deadly damage, and much lower health pools for all npcs, bosses or otherwise,
especially silly things like Taidha’s gate. Thinks die quickly, but then again so do you, so you have to be active and pay attention to where you are. Having a boss fail after wasting up to 2 hours waiting and 10 minutes fighting is just no good.
Well you can either keep doing what you are doing and travel at the same speed and the trait will still give you reduction to length of movement impairing conditions or you can slot in another utility over the signet, spec out of PU if you want, not use stealth cds in hopes of getting more swiftness and get rid of whatever else you are equiping to get such high swiftness uptimes and get the movement speed from this trait.
i see what you’re trying to say, and that wasn’t my point, but I guess people like this trait.
cripplebomb was pretty awful (not for me as I was mesmer main haha :P),
but yes mesmer skills are abit lackluster, and no it won’t be addressed.
Yes this should be for all professions, would be amazing!
mesmer and elementalist should look like a mini teleport.
I think IR is supposed to force you to remain on the road, and is a group support deliberately weaker than guardian. Useful more for PVE or capping.
In a group of 20, the revenant would assist with stability to mitigate a new cc every second, but not be the main support against all cc.
Multiple stacks would make it impenetrable if applied per second, and then increasing the duration would allow you to leave the road which is another small buff.
What would be nice is for it to have stun break to remove some of the Revenants need to predict everything, and for stability to apply to the entire area instantly despite the animation w/o ground target, just pull it back abit to get allies behind you and increase width, pulsing 1 stack for 1 sec duration every 1 second for 5 seconds. So 2 very minor changes to make it clearly fit a purpose and be more reactive.

This is just for jokes, (but I was secretly hoping Chronomancer would have been like this)
The major difficulty with a ranged thief is the utility Shadowstep-retreat. (And the ability to stealth at will and shadow step in general.) Not only would this have to immobilise the thief like a killshot sniper, it would also have to be low damage to accomodate thiefs very high ability to disengage (hence thief being the only class without range 1200)
I.e. a range class that can also teleport and and dissapear at will is o.p. (and before you scream mesmer, i know i know, but their damage is much higher nowadays with the strange abilities set up and strange trait combinations, like chaos condi + PU for instance gives both offense and defence, and triple MW shatters have become quadruple)
The balance is very difficult
I don’t think Revenants are hard to kill, they are shifting more towards a heavy armour class now, so I am predicting the next set of posts will be about reducing the duration of Rev cc and toning down some of the power damage. But this post is way too early, it needs to come after the next beta and it needs to be in Rev forums really (unless you’re assuming thiefs should be able to instakill everything :P).
(First of all, amazing work, thank you so much Roy for another fantastic round of improvements, especially with mobility)
The effect for the facets is alittle old-fashioned mmo, in that it is a 2d glowing upkeep circle as you move. Is there any way of fading this slightly to match the more realistic gw2 style?
Or maybe putting it on the UI? I’m not sure how other players/enemies would acurately be able to tell which point on the circle corresponds to which skill, even if they are in different positions, as the character keeps moving around.

Suggestion: Pact Commander Swiftness Toggle
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Akamaru.7415
oh is it automatic? I thought you had to talk to an NPC still, its just that their speed is increased. Or that you would have to toggle on your icon
This is still a bug today
In theory you can use Impossible Odds for speed. For PVE this shouldn’t be problem, since you can spot mobs and…well,it’s PVE.
For spvp is a different thing. Conquest mode is a bit tricky. You can get away at start using it,but atm you’re playing unfinished class,so the last thing you want to do,is be first on point,if 3 people, including you, go mid. Then there’s a fact, that there is insane amount of stealth going around,so you can be easily ganked by Thief,Mesmer as most common ones, they’ll just port to you and spike you in matter of seconds. You could use Shiro Legend, use Impossible Odds, till you almost drain your Energy, switch to Jalis or whichever 2nd Legend you are running, then insta switch back and you do it again. But again in Conquest mode, there won’t be chance to do this freely, since pretty much everyone focus revenant class first and God forbid you are stuck in Jalis Legend for 10s with no evades, elite with casting time of 2 and 3/4s,taunt that takes away half or all of your energy, those useless swirling hammers around you. Yes you have those roads for stability, but then enemy will just burst you down.
However, the instant switch energy has been confirmed unintended and will be removed. Probably today. IO is for quickness and duelling really, not superspeed mobility as you lose all your energy for what is essentially just swiftness ooc.
Yes, press F2, receive Glint. :P
we know, there are lots of threads like this
Use dwarf road then use hammer 3 and 5 blast finishers to get 100% swiftness up time.
you need to pause awhile to do so the by the time both blast happen you only have 15 sec swift 5 sec wasted on the delay casting
Perhaps that’s your latency, but you really don’t. As long as you cast the road and blast at the same time, you keep moving forward and obtain the swiftness.
No the hammer 5 locks you in place, preventing you from moving whilst it casts. It’s not a latency issue, its a casting animation. The hammer 3 doesn’t stop you.
And a swiftness stack is coming, so this thread is closed really
A lot of posts about lack of swiftness on Rev so here is a tip ppl may not have noticed.
Use the dwarf road then use Hammer 3 and 5 blast finishers to put out aoe swiftness with 100% up time.
A bit of a pain and you need to use hammer and dwarf but it is there.
there are quite a few threads about this. We knew about this from day 1. The combo is clunky and difficult, requires stopping for one of the abilities.
Roy has already confirmed that a swiftness stack is coming, and this is mentioned in quite a few threads so this thread is closed really.
I wouldn’t mind a complete re-imagining of mesmer right now. Mesmer was my first class and I thought confusion and illusions would be the main concept. But it ended up being Shattercat vs. PU condi and nothing else.
Gimmicks like superspeed on glamour yet weird application of swiftness and broken focus stacking, the weird scepter auto attack chain that spawns a semi-clone semi-phantasm, very slow staff that attempts to be a melee weapon (like GS is ranged) but fails and finally with PU upgrade it just killed the class dead for me. Now I can csplit too? There needs to be a much stronger theme tying everything together. I wish it was redesigned from scratch.
I don’t think Mesmer is a better thief though. Mesmers mobility is abit strange whereas thief is much more controlled.

But aren’t outfits supposed to be all in one costumes, that force you to copy a certain style, like Chef, and Shadow Assassin. They aren’t supposed to be your normal customisable armour.
I think they just made the outfits too good, and so people are using them instead of armour. A nice compromise would be introducing some similar armour based on what people like the most, but you should all be posting these as armour concepts and Anet should respond by introducing them. Whilst enabling outfit customisation is simpler, then what is the point of an outfit, other than to undermine the transmutation concept?
theres shiro upkeep for out of combat mobility u dont need more.
In addition to Dstroya, as everyone has said in all posts discussing mobility so far
Super speed = swiftness out of combat
Legend swap cooldown reduces swiftness to about 50%
A swiftness stack will be coming, which will therefore completely replace this ability as it is better in all aspects
Either way this upkeep ability alone makes Revenant the least mobile class in the entire game.
I see comms get harassed for having less than 10k AP. Showing AP isn’t working and it should be hidden.
I have said before that I would love for Phase Traversal to be Revenants main ooc mobility (in that it works without a target too) in addition to the swiftness stack that is coming soon.
We will have to see what glint brings, but it just makes sense to me to have phase traversal work the full distance without a target, especially with Shiro being an assassin, given other classes mobility.
(This is given that there will also be a new cooldown or similar coming on legend swapping out of combat that will prevent an infinite number of dashes that people predicted on the other threads)
(edited by Akamaru.7415)
Swiftness is confirmed coming
I would personally like the legends to keep their current abilities, but tweak them to be more specific so that channeling a legend locks you into a certain playstyle.
So shiro can shadow step without a target for scouting and single target assasination,
Jalis provides a vitality boost, self protection trait and stuns, the swirling hammer knock down instead of toggleable,
Mallyx is a condi spellcaster, providing combo fields (poison, fire, dark?),
Ventari is a mixed single+aoe healer with instant tablet pet
Glint is a mesmer/guardian type support that turns a fight.
Make Revenant into a Jack of all trades, but slightly weaker than its counterparts
(edited by Akamaru.7415)
you can use certain keybindings to turn your character instantaneously and roll forwards.
I don’t think that works anymore. I have been struggling to get that ‘about face’ working on my mesmer recently. It turns the camera round but your character won’t turn, even with “w”.
I did know about this, in my original post I said it would mean our revenants will funnily be travelling through Tyria backwards. That post is out of date now though and this one is abit cluttered too.
I think the conclusion seems to be that revenants will be the second class that won’t be getting any map mobility. Unless Glint brings a blink, which is unlikely.
I think it’s fine
He could have sounded like Trahearne *shudders
“We live, we bweathe and we fwite!”, yes well done trahearne.
Use Riposting Shadows (Shiro utility skill 1) as a ‘leap’ since it has no cooldown. Granted you have to do the fancy reverse keybinding trick but apart from that you can move around pretty quickly.
Staff 5 is also a dash, although obviously that requires you to use staff.
Right, it’s a 1200 dash to target. That’s massive.bind to e key and your all set for a dash.
I’m talking about moving from A to B, so ooc (out of combat) e.g. WvW, if you have a target then there is no problem as there are many shadowsteps
Actually you can get perma Super Speed by switching heroes ooc and gaining 50 energy, then using the SS Shiro skill
my first sentence is that Roy confirms this will be removed and a swiftness stack will be coming
(edited by Akamaru.7415)
I’m pretty okay with Impossible Odds turning me into Sonic the Hedgehog.
This will be replaced with a swiftness stack that Roy has confirmed. Bare in mind that super speed is just swiftness ooc.
Such harsh words about necro…
I know, they are my favourite class for aesthetics believe it or not.
(Confirmed so far is ooc legend swap will get a cooldown, so no more energy refresh,
And a swiftness stack will be coming)
Originally I suggested phase traversal have a targeter, or it could work like riposting shadows and the same energy cost but forwards.
Phase traversal gives another shadowstep to a kit that already has shadowsteps and super speed to catch up. A leap or jump ooc is really needed.
Whilst this is nearly intended, ironically we start in the silverwastes which is partly about moving between objectives. By the time u waddle your way over there with the swiftness skill that we will be getting (when it’s ready) your team would have already finished. WvW will be interesting.
Necromancers are the only other useless class but this is deliberate as they are supposed to trap everyone and try to be unkillable. Revenant doesn’t have this concept, and it seems weird that a class with the power to shadow step repeatedly has to walk around Tyria like a Necro and can’t channel a legend like Shiro to allow them to move more quickly.
Are you ok with no mobility, found a work around, or have alternatives?
Maybe phase smash could not teleport back?
I would kill for a gem store update, especially with HoT having no release date. I only started playing about 40 days ago, game feels like a dead game. Nothing has changed since I started playing, and I imagine it feels the same way for other newbies.
