You can try to mislead people however you want, but at the end of the day, you’re selling people a game they already own. It’s part of the price we’re paying for the whole package therefore it’s not “free” At the end of the day, I’m paying for something I already own, and it’s insulting.

I happen to think the price would be a fair price for the expansion anyway, so I don’t really mind TOO much, but the way you’re approaching it and trying to sell it to people like they’re idiots who don’t know better honestly turns me off of the whole thing.

I notice that my ticket# 562525 is not included in the latest update. I’d appreciate it not being removed until some half-decent customer service is actually rendered upon it. I normally wouldn’t post twice but as I said, it was not included in the last update.

It’s been over a week now. Just so you guys know… I’ve been planning on getting the new mini and the new gem medium armor, but I refuse to spend a cent on gems as long as I have outstanding refunds that I haven’t received yet. If the 7 days on the mini comes and goes you can consider both gem purchases forever lost. In fact, I will likely be removing my credit card and forswearing all future gem purchases based on the dismal level of service displayed.

Honestly, I’m happy with much of this patch, and absolutely livid about some aspects out of it, but I can’t really muster up much feeling one way or another here. I have a hard time seeing how waypoints are really a significant expenditure for anyone as it is.

They are currently so small that at level 80, a single green or even blue drop offsets any waypoint within a map. If anything a minor increase would, in my mind, just serve to act as an extra gold sink, which is good based on the moderate inflation we’ve been seeing, while at the same time doing it in the way that is so small and spread out that no one will tangibly feel the impact.

I’m certain there wouldn’t be a GW2 booth of any sort unless a major purchase item like an xpac was announced or being announced. I don’t think that’s going to happen there. That said, last year there were Anet folks there for a panel and we were able to ask some rather pointed questions (even if the team moderating it failed to keep it on track, not anet’s fault). Unfortunately I don’t see any panels that look like they’ll have an anet person on them, unless I missed something on the schedule. It’s a shame too, because I’ve really got a couple of things I’d like to ask someone given the chance.

If Devs decide to make only some outfit available as armor while some exclude as armor, this will be one of the most stupid decision.

SO PLEASE MAKE KHAKI CARGO SHORTS AND ALL ITEMS AVAILABLE AS ARMOR IN THE FUTURE PLEASE! D’:

I can’t agree more, but sadly, they’ve already basically given us a big middle finger here. They’re taking items we paid for, breaking half of them, and then only giving us refunds on that half, despite the fact that the pieces we bought to go WITH that half are now useless to us as a result.

Some people were asking for the chance to wear Town Clothes as armor. They got their wish, but for technical reasons many Town Clothes wouldn’t convert over to armor as-is.

I don’t think anyone really “got their wish” here except for Anet, who gets to keep our money for products they have basically broken on us. I have yet to meet a single person who wanted town clothes as armor who would be ok with this implementation. We would have liked to use town clothes as armor, but not at the expense of having our town clothes pieces broken so they no longer work WITH EACH OTHER.

I’m going to demand a refund of my gems spent on all my town clothes, regardless of whether they’re tonics or not.

Same here, and I’ve actively encouraged everyone I run into who is upset by this to do the same. These items were sold to us with the express description and intent that they be used with other items in the same category. Now a substantial portion of those items are no longer compatible with each other, making ALL of them useless to many of us. It’s tantamount to a bait-and-switch.

No more jewels in amulets on the 15th?

Just wanted to call some attention to this thread.

It is confusing for me to see this kind of mixed messaging. A ton of people agreed in that thread that there are too many moving parts in this game to balance it well enough. Now you guys are in here saying that removing jewels equates to dumbing the game down.

Can you guys do me a favor and try the game out after the features are in the game before assuming removing this is going to ruin everything?

Geeze, between this here and this extremely disapointing response to complaints about the utter destruction of bought and paid for gemstore items, It’s sad to see this is the tact being taken on issues now. Have things really devolved to the point where the professionals working on the game and its community are now at the point of basically dismissing anything that criticizes decisions and telling us we don’t know what we’re talking about?

If you guys were really open to changing things if they don’t work out, you wouldn’t be outright dismissing complaints as has been the pattern lately. I don’t know what your intent is, but I can tell you guys, this out of hand dismissal of any criticism is setting a very low expectation of your intentions after the patch goes live. Right now it’s “your rationale has been ignored, just try it.” It makes me and just about everyone else I’ve talked to expect that the response after the patch will be “your rationale is irrelevant, learn to deal with it.”

I just can’t fathom why this is the message you guys want to send. Given how vehemently you guys seem to push the notion that you actually listen to feedback, it’s weird that when it actually comes time to acknowledge feedback, the response is to dig up a 3 week old post by DIFFERENT PEOPLE and use it to accuse players of being inconsistent. The community is more than 5-10 people that meaningfully post in any given thread. It’s dismaying that this is not recognized, and that the opposite is in fact being used as a rationale to dismiss concerns you guys don’t like.

All we have to do is make it clear to the players at large that if they purchase something from the GW2 store they are flushing their money down the toilet because Anet might change that item at any time so that it is useless to them. Once players understand that, GW2 (which is dependent on store sales) is in trouble.

Then I wish you luck. I don’t think it’ll work the way you hope… but good luck.

The power of bad press is amazing. If everyone who is slighted by this takes to Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, and any other relevant gaming forums, you’d be surprised how effective it can be. It’s a long shot, but it’s happened plenty of times before, where enough damage has been done to the reputation of a company that they need to make good just to avoid loss. Word gets around when MMOs start having issues. It’s killed them before. If anet never makes right on this I can’t say I’d be sad if this game started dying off as well. As much as I LIKE the game, I’d rather see that happen than for travesties like this to keep happening.

As I stated previously, it is one thing for a game company to change certain aspects of the entire game. And if you have purchased that game or a subscription to the game you are aware that these types of sweeping changes can take place. But if the game company is going to sell specific items for real money in their store, I believe that they have a certain responsibility to remain as faithful as possible to those items. It’s one thing to change some specifics about an item (storebought mining axes have a different animation for graphic reasons). But its another thing to change the fundamental usability of an item (the mining axe that was supposed to be Bound to Account is now Bound to Character). In my opinion that is false advertising and morally wrong.

I’m not going to even attempt to argue morality, as there are far too many subjective elements to it to ever really reach a consensus. I’ll cede it to you.

Arena.net, legally, however has two protections in this case that will get any complaint you file laughed right out of the courtroom.

Firstly, the precedent has already been set multiple times. You do not own content in game. Period. That you spent money in game does not make the content yours in any way, shape, or form.

Secondly, technically and legally, the only thing you purchased with money is gems (I can guarantee you that’s the major part of the reason why gems exist, in fact). You never actually spent money for any item in game, and that detaches you even further from any legal claim you may have for ownership of that content in dispute.

That’s the game developers play to protect their right to change their content when they see fit, without needing the approval or permission of their customers. You can hate that game all you want. You can think that it’s morally wrong and despicable and disgusting…

… But it’s pretty much legally airtight.

Complaints, either to Arena.net or any oversight group like the Better Business Bureau, will fall on deaf ears. If changing this is your policy, your best (and arguably only) option now is to walk away, and hope enough people join you. Because your only chance is to hit them in the pocketbook.

I hate to break it to you, but the law doesn’t actually protect them that much. That’s not to say they won’t get away with it (they probably will), but both of your “protections” you stated that they have are largely irrelevant.

Regarding “owning” content or not, it is irrelevant. When you pay for the USE of anything, there is a good faith assumption that the item will effectively serve its advertised purpose. As far as leased property goes, if anything, there is MORE duty on the part of the owner to actually protect its suitability for its stated purposes.

The gems are also largely irrelevant, and this issue has been visited again and again by courts. If you buy into any “intermediate” currency, like a gift card, “gems” “points” or anything else of the sort, you are still protected. In fact, it is still legally YOUR money. You can’t necessarily redeem it for cash again, but the company isn’t even allowed to claim it as earnings until you actually buy something with it.

I’m not saying anet isn’t protected here. As a matter of course they may very well be, but these are certainly not the reasons why.

Actually, I do have a dragon shirt which I received when my wife and I attended the launch party at Pink in Seattle. I very much like the shirt the way it is; however, as it did not cost real money, I don’t feel that I can complain. Those items that did, on the other hand, I do feel I have some room to complain about.

I feel like this is pretty much my stance. I get it with the dragon shirt, it was a promo item that didn’t cost me anything out of pocket, but it impacts the items that are not a part of this as well. I individual pieces for all of my townclothes slots. None of my gloves, pants, shirt, headgear, boots, were bought as a set. If say, the gloves and shoes become skins, but the pants and shirt both become tonics, it’s already been stated that I can’t wear the pants and shirt at the same time (tonics won’t stack) and, in effect, since the only items I bought to match them are now incompatible with each other, the skin for the boots and gloves are now OBSOLETE, and according to anet, not refundable.

It just really seems like they didn’t actually think this through. I know I’ve mentioned it before but it really feels like they said “we’re getting rid of townclothes, now let’s sit down and come up with an excuse why.”

In my experience, I have generally found when a developer digs in their heels like this in spite of a very vocal protest, it’s not because they want to.

My completely non-snarky guess at what happened;

- Town clothes were not the seller Arena.net hoped it would be. I honestly suspect the number of people who bought into that is very, very small and the vast majority were content using their armor as a general all around look. Looking around in-game seems to support that opinion to me.

- NCSoft noted Arena.net wasn’t getting a good return on the investment in town clothes, and told them it needed to go.

- Arena.net is now stuck over a barrel. They can’t merge the two the way they want for technical reasons (again, remember the problem is that the publisher has deemed town clothes aren’t worth the effort). Then someone remembered how GW1 had all those one size fits all costumes, and so the quick attempt to create a similar concept in GW2.

- The new model is quicker to produce and costs less in terms of resources, hopefully giving Arena.net a better return on investment and trying to appeal to those who ignored town clothes because they were deemed pointless. They know they’re kittening off the group that liked the old way… but they really can’t do anything for it.

For the record, they basically “dug their heels in” like this with the original announcement of the sPvP rank changes. They clearly wanted to push it more towards an MLG/eSports structure. However, they kittened off a huge portion of that playerbase, and after some protracted feedback, Anet adjusted their change to be more palatable to all parties involve (including themselves).

It’s a rarity, sure, but given TIME, these things can and sometimes do get addressed. For that possibility alone, I’d argue it’s worth leaving this open

I’m also not sure townclothes really weren’t the seller they were looking for. I do genuinely believe the change is because they feel it “clashes” with the wardrobe system, but I just think they’re underestimating players on that regard.

People forget that they’re getting these features for FREE.

And they’re coming here to make spoiled-brat posts about how it’s not enough? I just don’t get it.

Personally, they’re not quite enough to bring me “back” to the game from WoW. Yet. Another month or two of these kinds of steps in the right direction, and I might be able to convince myself to unsub to that greedmongering game. Class balance is going to have to improve a LOT, though.

I know this is going to blow your mind, but people are capable of liking something in general, and still leveling criticism at specific portions of it they feel could be fixed. The most interesting part of this truly amazing conceptual revelation is that these criticisms can actually help things. Crazy, isn’kitten

You talk about how it’s free like we’re some how being given charity. NCSoft and Anet are in this to make money, just as anyone else. Their business model is just different. If I go to a restaurant and the meal was undercooked, or I got the wrong food, I’m not going to just be grateful and keep my mouth shut because I’m getting a good deal. I’ll tell them, they learn what they need to improve their business, and I (hopefully) get my problems resolved, if they care to do so. Everyone wins.

Patch will again hurt players for Exploring

When i saw the hype about this blog posts, i was hyped because “finally, maybe it’s this time PvE will get changes to help fix the many issues we face right now”.

Oh lord, we were wrong.

When i saw the “No More Repair Costs” i did not understood, i mean:
- They remove the punishment to players when they die.
- Yet they still punish their players with Mad Waypoint costs when we try to help our friends/guildies with their new chars/stories/quests/events….

One minor but major change they could make is a 50% discount waypoint cost to areas we already 100%, so we do not need to think twice when a friend is asking for help in a area where it’s costing up to 4 silver to travel to.

Maybe, on the last posts of friendly play we can see some light at the end of the tunnel.

Honestly, the game needs gold sinks. The thing is, repairs were already so small and insignificant that for pretty much every single player left in the game, they accomplished nothing. Dying 10 times in a single dungeon isn’t even enough to take away 10% of your reward for completing it.

Maybe I just have too much gold, but I don’t really see anything dramatically overpriced about waypoints as they are now. Even if I am dramatically overestimating player wealth and they are too expensive, I wouldn’t say they specifically “punish exploring” in any way. You can already cut the costs down significantly but utilizing the pvp mists lobby and city portals, and within a zone you can run if it’s really that bad. As with anything else, it’s just a personal assessment if the money saved is worth the extra time.

Twyll, your dismissal of Curtis’ whole reasoning was really funny to read and spot on.

Curtis, thanks for answering in this thread. It is good to know that the devs read our concerns. But honestly your explanation seems to demostrate that you – and I mean ArenaNet with that – are confused about why you had town clothes in the first place and what you wanted to achieve with them.
You say town clothes don’t help people to form the light, medium or heavy look. Yeah, of course, because that’s the purpose of town clothes. They ought to help form people’s town clothes look.
The main reason I bought town clothes was so that my warrior could wear something else than heavy armor while visiting a city or so that my necro could wear trousers.

Look, other games which have much, much, much better costume systems than GW2, allow players to wear alternative armor or costumes for visual effect only, therefore increasing the incentive to get a variety of skins. The only thing GW2, a game that supposedly centers on skins, had as a comparable feature was town clothes. And now you’re scrapping that feature for confused reasons, while other games expand and improve such features to the enjoyment of their players.
This is just… not reasonable.

Bolding that point for emphasis. I think that’s pretty much what a lot of people are trying to say, here.

Yeah, that’s really the biggest issue here. Beyond all the consequences of this change, the rationale for it just doesn’t make sense right out of the gate. It feels a lot like a retroactively formed an excuse to justify what they already decided they were going to do. (Which, by the way, is never a good idea. People see right through it as fast as they did here almost every single time).

Town clothes always existed as a way to step outside of the armor weight system, and now it’s going away because it…. steps outside the armor weight system? What?

I love the change, and the way town clothes will be implemented. If you don’t want the tonic for the full transformation pieces…just put a ticket in. The “4th weight type of armor” bit makes perfect sense to me, and will allow some great additions in the future that could work for all three armor classes! Good work.

What about the pieces of townclothes we bought to go with pieces that are now effectively being taken away from us. They already said ONLY items that convert to tonics will be refunded. I have a townclothes headpiece, shirt, boots, pants, and gloves, that were all bought separately. The boots and gloves are from the same “set” (riding gloves and boots but the rest were all independent items. Based on the vague and limited info they’ve given, I could easily (and probably will) wind up with at least a shirt becoming a tonic, and possibly the pants too. IF the gloves and boots become item skins, they are now 100% useless to me, and anet has already stated that they will not be giving refunds for those. I know I’m not even close to the only one with this issue, so how exactly does “just put a ticket in” even begin to address the issue for us?

My point was that they have spoken. They have decided not to give you what you want. There is no more reasonable discussion that can be had because they have put their foot down and said “No.”

Any further complaints will fall on deaf ears. They are no longer listening, and there is no point to keep this thread open. It’s only going to turn into an echo chamber of increasingly enraged demands that will not be heeded.

Or, if they actually claim to value community feedback like they claim (I genuinely doubt that they really do based on their pattern of brush-off responses), at the very least the continued commentary in this thread goes to provide them insight into future changes (i.e. not repeating the same mistakes again, as it were) .

It is also entirely possible that additional legitimate points will be raised, or the magnitude of dissatisfaction will prove to be even larger than anet had guessed up to this point, either of which would be useful if they revisit these changes in the future. They’ve clearly doubled-down because they already did the work and they can’t be bothered to undo it in a patch that they’ve probably already packaged, but it doesn’t mean that they won’t continually make changes to it as time goes on, as they have done in the past.

It really seems to me like you’re just allergic to any criticism of anet and are looking for an excuse to stimey it.

-snip-

Honestly at it’s best this is a bit of a copout. You’re saying “give us a chance” but it’s very clear from the attitudes displayed in explaining and responding to this issue that no one at ArenaNet really cares what people think. You seem to not care that you’ve alienated a large portion of the playerbase, and that the tonic solution for some of these items improves nothing for anybody. I get that the dragon emblem T-shirt is now a tonic, that’s fine. It was always a promotional item not tied to gemstore purchases, etc….

Why the heck are the hoodies going into the same system? that makes no sense whatsoever. What about the Cargo Shorts, and Riding Pants/Gloves/Boots? Are they going to be tonics as well? Because if they are, what on earth do you expect us to do with a tonic for a pair of pants or shoes that you’ve already stated won’t match up with the other gear slots they’re supposed to go with? So far every item you’ve given an example for as a skin is a hat. It’s genuinely like you guys said “screw it, we already got their money, and even if we give them gems back, we still have their money.”

What I don’t get about all this with the town clothes is you guys did SO WELL with everything else on this patch. The dyes, the skins overall…. That was all great, so why even mess with this stuff? It didn’t need to be changed, all this nonsense about a “fourth layer” of gear or whatever aside, it blows my mind that you guys could do so great with almost every other aspect of this upcoming patch and fail so monumentally here. It’s like this was just phoned in because “nobody cares about townclothes.”

Oh, for the record, when you “sincerely apologize” about something, and it’s obvious that you really don’t care, and are just coming up with excuses that don’t even make sense (town clothes don’t match the light/heavy armor scheme? OF COURSE THEY DON’T the whole point is to have a break from that), no one is actually going to believe in the false sincerity you claim to have.

Those glasses are definitely “single items”, as described in the blog post. They’re not part of a costume set.

The hoodie they described as becoming tonics was also a “single item.” As usual their communication is vague and contradictory with itself.

The part that sucks about it, and often has me saying “screw it” and going into wvw with my pve traits instead of bothering to switch, isn’t the cost, and isn’t the NPC visit. It’s having to manually rebuild the trait set point by point each time. Being able to save a set to recall when resetting traits would alleviate this problem 100%

You need to let go of this idea that it is somehow not reasonable because you decided it’s not. You are no more the arbiter of that than anyone else. If enough people are willing to pay it for anet to justify keeping it at that price, it’s obviously reasonable enough.

First, devs doubtfulyl benefit from gem purchases directly in any way. As others have stated, they’re paid a salary that is likely the same regardless of gem sales.

Second, there’s no guarantee that ArenaNet even sees gemstore proceeds directly. NCSoft could direct it all back to ArenaNet’s operations, or they could use it to prop up their other games, which I will almost guarantee they do.

That said, more gem purchases = more successful game = indirect increased chance of raises and bonuses (maybe).

There will be the same three leagues as previously. No world can be lower than 9th place in a league. Everyone gets tickets.

I hate to be the person who has to ask this but are you sure? Are you sure it’s not just the top 9 overall, or the top 3 in each l eague for 9 total? Somehow I have a hard time believing you based on Arenanet’s overall past record of terrible and inaccurate communication.

Last “season” we were told the top 3 in each LEAGUE would get finishers, but when it came around, only the top in each league got one, for 3 total, and all I ever saw was an insinuation that we, the players, “misunderstood.”

In the little advertisement for this wvw tournament coming up, it says.
“Finally, I want to explain the new system of rewards we are putting in place. At the end of the tournament, everyone who has completed the meta achievement will be given a chest containing WvW Tournament tickets. You’ll also receive a unique title, and players in the top three worlds of each league will receive a limited-use dolyak trophy finisher.

Last time, we were told this, and we were outright lied to. The top 3 worlds OVERALL got finishers. Second and third place in each league got nothing of the sort. Anet later tried to play it off as a misunderstanding, but no, it was an outright and direct lie.

So what’s the actual truth this time, because I’m almost sure it will be something other than what we’ve just been told.

I love you guys, I really do. The game is genrally fantastic, and overall I love it, but there is a clear and consistent failure in your communications with the player base (descriptions that don’t make sense, descriptions that actually mean their least likely interpretation, and in the previous wvw season outright lies), so I have a really hard time taking any statement about reward structures seriously any more without direct and specific acknowledgement.

“too rare” is an awful subjective thing. Who’s to decide what’s an appropriate amount? The odds of winning the powerball jackpot IRL are 1 in 175MILLION. The odds of even winning back your ticket price are not even quite 1 in 50 (just under 2%). Some people find that too low, but other people find it just fine. Gambling at it’s core is unfair and irrational. It is designed for you to lose. The single and simple solution if you don’t like the odds is to not play.

So you’d still purchase a Royal Terrace pass over the Airship even though the Airship has more services (Activity NPC and Black Lion Weapon Merchant, from what I hear), purely out of layout and aesthetic considerations?

Absolutely. The layout is MUCH MUCH MUCH better, and despite the fact that DR mapchat is… well, DR mapchat, at least it’s active compared to Gendarran. Plus when I exit the Terrace, at least I’m in a city and not in a map full of angry horse people and lake pirates. The Black lion merchant is rarely used by any given player, so there’s no harm in going out of the way for it on the rare occasion I have a ticket to get something.

12 keys and no scraps???

Hi,

I was farming Black Lion Keys for scraps. When I was doing this for Dreamthistle GS everything was good, but now… I spent 12 keys with no result… I know that there is small chance for scraps, but it looks like a 0% right now. I’m sure there should be more chance or something is bugged on my account. AN, do you have explanation for this?

The R in RNG stands for Random.

Even if the odds are say, 20%, that doesn’t mean that you’re guaranteed one if you buy 5, or 10, or even 15. It just means that each time, you have a 1 in 5 chance. If you bought 100, I’m sure you’d see results resembling the real drop rate. The simple fact is that 12 is way way waaaaay to small a sample size to actually give you an accurate read on the actual drop rate.

Crown Pavilion Royal Terrace perma pass.

So far we’ve only ever seen this for one single day. A lot of people who would have gotten it were not online for that day and thus did not get it.

The layout is a lot better than the airship, so even with the airship up it should still attract a lot of buyers. I definitely won’t ever spring for an airship pass, since after trying it out, the layout is kinda crummy, but I would pick up a Crown Pavilion Royal Terrace perma pass in a heartbeat and I know I’m not the only one.

When I buy $25 worth of lottery tickets, I should be guaranteed to win at least $25 from them. Anything less just isn’t fair.

I can’t tell if this is sarcastic or just naive. Since there are people who actually believe that, I’ll treat it like it’s legit for the sake of argument.

Life isn’t “fair” and lotteries of any sort are especially not “fair.” They are equitable between participants, (each buyer has the same chances as another) but the simple fact is the house wins. It exists to make money for someone.

Don’t bother right now. Anet has screwed up the knights drop table. Currently they don’t drop anything

I’ll admit that I haven’t had a core drop since Tuesday evening, but looking at the statistics on gw2tp (http://www.gw2tp.com/item/50058-synergetic-assault-knight-power-core), it does appear that a steady supply is being maintained on the TP. This would indicate that at least someone is getting them.

Honestly, event items all look like that during the event in question, no matter how freely they are dropping. Speculators are constantly buying or selling attempting to make quick cash.

I dunno. I encourage all dead players to run back in /s. Quite simply put, unless an event is on the verge of a wipe, there is no situation where success is made morelikely by people stopping to res a fully dead player instead of continuing to kill. Every dead person is scaling the event up, making it take longer to complete for the people left. In addition, every person who stops to res is making this problem worse. They’re in combat mos tof the time, and it’s beneficial in nearly all cases to run back, for yourself and the group.

On top of that, dead players get in the way of downed players. It’s really that simple. I can’t res a downed player if they’re in the middle of 3 corpses that keep stealing priority on my interaction.

Ok after reading the seemingly endless discussion on this topic I feel like a couple things are being missed or ignored.

1. The zerg has a job. They’re looking to complete events. Having 50 people stop to help 1 person derails that

2. If you’re off doing heirlooms, you’re acting for yourself, so it’s hypocritical to expect people to stop working as a group to rescue the unhelpful lone wolf.

Arena.net isn’t at fault. There is nothing they can do about it. Stop trying to blame them. You’re wrong.

Business accountability 101.

When your supplier or subcontractor screws up, you own that. Accountability doesn’t shift because anet doesn’t want to handle the hardware themselves. If after over a week anet’s subcontractor hasn’t gotten its act together, accountability falls on anet for picking a crappy subcontractor. People are perfectly right to blame them in that regard.

So it’s the “slippery slope” argument then…

So if we let anet add a 8 copper per-swing benefit to a pick eventually what, humans and charr will be allowed to get married? Give me a break. This is the equivalent of worrying about global air quality because one person farts too much. If all it takes is an 8c/swing benefit to overcome the impulse control of enough people to keep the gemstore alive, we have NOTHING to worry about. If anything, the benefit of this pick keeping sprockets both available and affordable far outweigh the negative effects of this hilariously tiny “gear treadmill” that literally takes tens of thousands of uses to pay itself off.

I’ve got over 2k hours “played” on my account and I’m not even sure if I’ve mined 300 full stacks of ore yet (the amount needed to make upgrading from molten to this pick profitable) IN THE LIFE OF MY ACCOUNT. I’m a pretty active player, so for even casuals, it would probably take over a year after buying this pick before it could even pay itself off. If it takes a year of the game for a “gear treadmill” to actually matter, especially on an item that isn’t even actually gear, people seriously need to just find something more important to worry about.

there is no argument, are you blind?
i would like to travel in a more immersive way, quick travel is way to cheap a way and running everywhere makes the game all that more boring.

Once again, all I see is “me me me.”

How would mounts improve the game for all, or even most? I’ve played plenty of games with mounts, game with worlds that were actually designed for them, and they were no more or less immersive than games without them. In a few of these games, mounts if anything just felt weird and unnatural because you couldn’t fight on them. It’s certainly no less immersive not having mounts than magically pulling a large animal out of thin air when you need to go faster. You may be “bored” but that’s your personal view. The majority of the player community seems absolutely fine with it.

Copper-Fed Salvage-o-Matic

Alfador.7649

It is a convenience. The per-salvage copper cost is the same as equivalent kits. I hand it between my characters, and it sees a lot of use. It is hands down the best way to keep an inventory empty during loot intensive activities like WvW. And it was briefly on sale during GW2 black friday promotions.

Not quite. It’s .52 copper/salvage cheaper than a Basic salvage kit. That’s 13 copper saved per basic salvage kit. It’s a small savings, but it is there.

It’s a “savings” but it takes many, many salvages before you start saving money. It originally cost 800 gems. If you converted the gems in to gold today, you’d net yourself just over 50g. 0.52 copper is 0.000052 gold.

50g/0.000052g = ~961,538 uses Before it would pay itself back you would have to have avoided buying over 38,000 kits

In the real world, there are many words that apply to a savings this small. Immaterial, irrelevant, insignificant, insubstantial…. any of those work. It is entirely appropriate and accurate to say that this item is PURELY an item of convenience and the savings has NOTHING to do with it.

Yes, swimming in Gold from selling sprockets at 40c per at a 30% chance to drop while you have ignored your initial capital investment. Can’t wait … literally, since it will take you half a year just to break even.

so, are you in any rush?
i am not, why rush when i can just enjoy the game without worrying about my pick breaking all the time.

The point is that you completely missed the point here. This thread was a pool of tears over how the molten pick is made “obsolete” by the sprocket dropping effect of the clockwork pick. The point of all these rebuttals is that, financially, it’s 99.999% irrelevant that the pick drops sprockets becaause they are worth a neglibile amount of money. No one here cares how useful you find the permanent effect of the pick. Both of these picks have this feature so it is completely irrelevant in comparing the two of them.

So you just buy a mount in the gem store and fly to the end of all jumping puzzles?

Sounds like a great and well thought out idea that nobody had before you.

Just about all MMOs have mounts.
However, breeding and customizing mounts with crafted armor and dye are features that would be pretty unique.
Also cheating to fly across puzzles with mounts would be another great perk of having a mount. As a kid I used to like platform games, but just don’t care for them much anymore.

So its basically paying for cheating? You are trolling right?
And as soon as mounts buff you in any way, Anet has to rebalance their whole pve content.

Uh yeah it did. Why do you think in the new expansion you can’t fly for the first month? Because it trivializes content and even Blizzard thinks that. Flying mounts no, buffing mounts no, mounts in general yes

I still have to find a single argument in this topic, how the introduction of customizable mounts benefits the general player base or enhances the gameplay.

I’m looking for that too, and not seeing any at all. As far as I can tell mounts are just an unnecessary extra upgrade everyone would have to work for. They would dilute the game world more, and making them gemstore items would just introduce a genuine pay to win mechanic. They’re fine for many games, but they have no place in GW2. The world is already built perfectly around foot traffic, and there’s no reason to change it.

8.45 gold per 100 gems?

in Black Lion Trading Co

It’s just like the real world. The more people want to move currency A into currency B, the less B you get for each A. Demand for gems spikes (meaning more people want to spend gold on gems) every time an item goes on sale, or a new item is offered. It also rises as people have more gold to spend.

Nearly every short spike on the gemstore graph for the last year and a half can be tied to a new item release, holiday, living story event, or sale. The long term rise over the life of the game is clearly attributable to the rising availability of gold in the game. The reason gems cost more gold is the same reason precursors cost more gold. People simply have more gold to spend. Demand is going up, so price is going up.

MikeyGrey, the Gift of Sprockets Sprocket Generator node is a mining node. This means, technically, its possible to mine sprockets with any pickaxe, including MAMP.

You missed the point. I want the pick to be capable of mining sprockets from any/all nodes. Isn’t that what the newest pick is capable of? (could be wrong; i didn’t buy one yet)

It is the last pick you will ever need because the purpose of the pick is to get ore and it does that. If you did the cost benefit analysis, you would realize that 1K gems would buy you thousands of sprockets … if you are buying the pick for sprockets because you NEED them, you haven’t put that much thought into it in terms of time or cost.

Value of sprockets is completely irrelevant. Its the actual ability that I am after.

You are after an ability that is immaterial and irrelevant. Why are you so obsessed with it? If it really means that much to you, pay 60+ gold for a pick that has the most tiny, insignificant bonus feature ever, but stop complaining that things get better as time goes on. If you buy a computer today, you can buy the same one 6 months from now for less, or you can buy a better one for the same money. THAT IS HOW LIFE WORKS. Products improve, they evolve, they get better. I’m not going to cry to lenovo that their new laptops are better than the one I bought a year ago, nor am I going to complain to samsung that my phone is “made obsolete” by their new phone, nor am I going to get mad at Nissan that this year’s model of my car has more features than mine did from last year. Why should I complain to anet that my molten pick, that I’ve enjoyed thoroughly for close to a year does not have a tiny little feature that the new pick has?

You need to chill out. Seriously. NO ONE is being ripped off. NOTHING is being made obsolete. The math has been done, and it takes over seventy-five thousand swings before you’d actually get enough sprockets to pay for it.
That’s based on the fact that 1000 gems can be converted to gold at 61.10 gold as of yesterday afternoon If you base it on how much gold you have to convert to gems, it’s EVEN MORE.

Transcribed from another thread:

Let’s do some basic math here, using today’s values.
This pick costs 1,000 gems. If I bought 1,000 gems and converted it directly to gold, which people have been able to do since day one… I would get 61.10g, give or take a couple silver, at the conversion as of 5 minutes ago. Value of a sprocket was 38c when I looked. For the sake of simplicity let’s call it 40c.

To recap:

1,000 gems = 1 pick OR 61.10g
1 sprocket = 40c (0.0040g)
Avg swings per sprocket = 5
avg sprocket value per swing = 8c

Q: How many ores would I have to mine for this pick to pay for itself and therefore start actually paying off financially? (We are only discussing the benefits of the sprockets since this is the only part of the pick that is different from the last 2 and thus generating all the kittening).

A:
61.10g / 0.0040g (sprocket value) = 15275 sprockets to cancel out redeemable value of gems

(15275 sprockets) x (5 swings per sprocket) = 76375 total swings.

It will take you over SEVENTY-SIX THOUSAND swings of that pick to recover the value you would have gotten if you just turned the gems into gold, right now, today. Even if the value of the sprockets quadrupled, we are still talking about TENS OF THOUSANDS of swings.

This is not, nor will it ever be, a material advantage to anyone, any more than it would have been to just convert their gems to gold in the first place.
