They are making this change for pve but they are going to nerf nearly every WvW player who doesn’t run condi in the process while zerker will still be the best set for pve. A lot of us just finished spending hundreds of gold that we had saved up for a long time now (WvW doesn’t give you very much money) on perfectly min-maxed ascended gear sets and now we are going to have to regear AGAIN? Sorry but this is the same thing as a gear treadmill. You get your perfect gear set and then they force you to grind for a new one.

The reason why groups stack is to reach the AoE cap and reduce damage. It’s also important to do mid-fight to “reset” the fight. What I mean by this, is that the regrouping allows everyone to heal up to full HP via water field blasts and gain almost full stacks of might via empower. In a sense, it returns your party to the condition it was in before the fight even started.

Regardless of it’s many benefits, stacking makes for boring meta, it is greatly over used, often at the expense of momentum and positioning, and in my opinion is used more as a crutch for bad positioning and movement, than its tactical advantages.

Lastly, people need to understand that there is a very big difference between a hammer train and a balanced comp. The fact that 4 warriors use hammers in a 15-man comp doesn’t make it a hammer train. Not even close, to be honest.

So over 26% of the group is using hammers, but that isn’t a hammer train? Where is the magical cut off, 80%? You are taking the term too literally anyway, it is more about the heavy defense ball formation with hammers, at 4 I would argue the number of hammers is irrelevant as far as the label goes.

Also, note that he was not counting hammer guardians.

Well over 50% of the comp uses staves…so why don’t we call it a staff train instead of a hammer train? Also would like to point out that GF was running about as much of a hammer train as Ark in the GvG.

This has got to be the most fun I’ve had since launch of this game. It took us a little while to warm up but those last two matches were super intense and certainly got the adrenaline pumping, I can’t stop watching it over and over. Thank you NS for giving me the GvG I was hoping for, you’ve come a long way and keep on improving.

(and yes I know that they said they would be working on bringing existing weapons to all classes but I thought they also said they were working on new weapons entirely as well.)

Corrected that for you.

Curses is very good for power builds. The 25 point minor is majorly underated. And Banshees Wail makes your warhorn a dps monster.

I suppose that is true, I just personally feel like the GM traits in the other trees overshadow the Curses ones for DPS. I probably wouldn’t put more than 25 into curses personally but it’s certainly viable. I do put 25 into Curses for my WvW power spec though.

Sorry but Warrior Vengeance and Engineer Booby Trap are not ways to prevent stomps by multiple players seeing as those are on a 7s or so cooldown when you first go down. Both Warrior’s and Engineer’s #2 skill in down state are both single target and arguably worse than the Fear seeing as at least Necros can trait the fear to last longer and deal damage.

Power builds are actually extremely flexible for pve….Honestly you can just about go 30 points into any of the trees except death magic and curses. Personally, I run 10/0/10/30/20. Dagger/Horn, Axe/Focus. Well of blood, well of suffering, well of corruption, and well of power, and lich form. Have also messed around a bit with 30/0/10/30/0, same weapons and utilities. I go full knight’s armor with full cavalier trinkets, and use food and sharpening stones to boost my power. This gear set is mainly for wvw and I don’t feel like getting a second set for pve. I would just say go with what looks good to you and try to have fun. I can say with certainty though that the build I listed is very powerful in terms of damage and survivability and in my opinion, wells are absolutely the only way to go for a power necro in pve and wvw.

“In the hands of a really skilled player, this build is very powerful in a 1v1 scenario. It is night and day, the difference between a bad warrior and a good warrior.

A good warrior will make you feel like you can barely damage him because he knows how to time his evades and blocks properly, as well as their relentlessness in putting the pressure on you so you can’t damage him anyway. So people will be like, wth, he takes no damage, when in fact you probably just got outplayed.

However this build is far from unstoppable.

Engis can beat them despite their lack of stunbreakers because of the multiple conditions they put on warriors as well as their CC and their turrets. Engis are also typically more tanky and have lots of sustain.

An MM necro can wipe the floor with this build because of bodyblocking and how tanky these builds tend to be.

Against a condi necro, if a Warrior doesn’t kill the necro during Berserker’s Stance, the advantage falls in the Necro’s favour because this build cannot keep up with the conditions that the necro puts up. Fear, cripple, chill and weakness are the bane of our existence.

S/D thieves could beat this build as well because of their Shadowstep and multitude of evades.

Mesmer’s, well, they are mesmers. They are the warrior’s huge counter because of their on-demand phase retreat and in-combat mobility. Any Warrior will have a really tough time against a good mesmer.

Bunker Shortbow/Sword rangers can also beat this build because they arguably have the most sustainability/damage mitigation out of any class in this game. They also have alot of stunbreaks and if they use their elite that gives you stability, its GG.

Even condition warriors with Sword+Shield/Longbow can beat this build. Warriors have many stunbreaks and can have high uptime on stability. As well as having good mobility.

Eles and Guardians will tend to have a tougher time vs this Warrior build, but even Guardians and Eles can have the sustainability to go toe to toe with such a build.

So there you go. I named at least 6 classes that have builds that can counter or beat this Mace+Shield/Greatsword build if set up and played right. And apparently this build is “OP”.

Warriors always have to build and set up their utilities in anticipation of receiving lots of conditions and burst damage. In other words, they always build with damage mitigation in mind and in terms of what the opponents are running.

So now that other classes finally have to build for what the Warrior brings to the table, which is hard CC and burst damage. People are crying because they can no longer get away with bringing any utility they want without any thought and expect to be fine. It is about kitten time classes have to at least start to consider building and adapting for what the warrior brings to the table, which, lets be honest, for the majority that this game has been out no other classes really did.

Because guess what, since the beginning of the game. Warriors had to build keeping in mind every other class in the game. We needed to build condition removal for Necros, Engis, Mesmers and other such builds. We needed to carry shields, pack invulnerability and have some sort of endurance boosting bonus against thieves and other classes that do heavy burst. We needed mobility/stability to avoid being kited to death by many classes and to escape from bad fights. We needed to keep sustainability in mind to keep up with other more inherently more sustainable classes and to survive in melee. And many times, we needed to slot runes just to get protection and put 30 into tactics for shout heals because it was ridiculous how fast we would die.

And while we built with all these things in mind. There is one main thing above all that we needed to do, and what we are meant to do. And that is DAMAGE.

And since it was pretty impossible to do all these things and still do damage, many ppl decided screw it let me go full zerker build because I am going to die and not outsustain anybody anyway.

Now I am not asking that a Warrior should be able to do all these things mentioned at the same time, but pretty much to be a viable class we needed to do almost 90% of all of these things at the same time because of the way this class is designed; most classes can passively do damage while a warrior always has to be aggressive and active.

However, Warriors are getting more viable, albeit slowly and there is light at the end of the tunnel.

I can’t believe somebody would have the nerve to complain about a Warrior build being OP when #1: we have been by far the worst PvP class for a long time. #2: we probably still are one of the least viable if not the least viable class in PvP. Most if not all classes have had their FotM moments or been at least in the top 3 at one point. Not warriors."

So let me get this straight, this means you failed to dodge, block, blind, go invulnerable, pseudo-stunbreak (teleport), every one of his skullcracks until you ran out of stunbreaks? Most of these complainers are people who still run condition damage builds in PvE and WvW. Conditions are bad in WvW once you start facing organized groups (if you are small group roaming then they are still good) because of all the AoE condi cleanse flying about. As a necro you should be going power wells with staff, axe/X for WvW for excellent control and extreme aoe damage.

For PvE you should be going power wells, but using dagger/horn, axe/focus, and spec into death shroud a little as well. Condition damage is bad in PvE for multiple reasons. The main ones being: 1. If anyone else in your group is running condi, one of you might as well not even be there. 2. You are slowing your group’s DPS down significantly by speccing for long term damage instead of raw, bursty, power based damage.

The only thing conditions are good for is SPvP (and small scale WvW roaming). This is not just true for Necros but for every class in the game. Necromancers shine in Spvp and anyone who tells you otherwise clearly hasn’t figured out the class yet. Most top level tournament teams run a Necromancer since the recent buffs they received.

I think you reversed a few things:
Necros are still on just ok (unlike lets say a ele) in pvp, you cannot fit them in every team (also 3 professions have a utility that allow them to ignore the necro without decap), they do roflstomp a group of hotjoin tears.
Condi necros got hit the least with DS nerf, Dagger got hit the most (the true power weapon of the necro)
Necro without staff in pve – please tell me you are in a set group where they can ignore the fact that you are crippling your worth for a bit more damage (even if chewing on a enemy with Dagger 1 is still more than Axe 2 can do) pre range.
4 out of the last 5 bosses got cleared down faster in pug terms with 1 condi on team than in full power (and even most organized groups had a fail run/run with wipe if they were trying to do the full zerker/zerker-knight combo).
Wells are good for base defense, not so much for the offensive (they are domes so placing them on walls is kinda pointles, mabye to deny the tar/fire) Epidemic on the other hand.

I repeat that anyone who doesn’t understand how powerful necro is in Tpvp doesn’t understand the class yet.

Staff is bad in pve. The damage is simply too terrible to warrant taking it just for putrid mark and the meager regeneration that mark of blood gives. The damage from combining warhorn 5 with dagger autoattack, the immobilize, life siphon, and an aoe daze (dazes work like stuns in pve) are all simply too good to trade for staff. Not to mention how quickly dagger/horn generates death shroud and how well dagger/horn’s fast hitting attacks scale with the 15 points in blood trait.

Wells aren’t good for going offensive? You must be trolling.

Sounds like a PvE’er walked into a PvP zone and got beaten by an experienced player. Then promptly went to the forums to complain about it.

Also, someone mentioned that Engineer has long cooldown stunbreaks. If you are having trouble against this build as an engi, you need to utilize your blinds, knockbacks, immobilizes, perma-vigor, blocks, and kiting better. (and your stunbreak cooldowns are comparable with other classes’ FYI)

Honestly, I think people would be surprised at just how survivable you can be as a glass cannon warrior as long as you have mace/shield, GS, play smart, and know when to disengage. Used to run a build similar to this for tpvp (25/25/0/0/20). Actually works really well as a roamer. You come into fights that are already happening, with knowledge of which targets’ stunbreaks have already been baited by your teammates. 1 stun —> 100b and nothing survives. The best part is that the burst is only on an 8 second CD.

This is the best build I’ve ever used for 1v1 on Warrior but I don’t use it anywhere else. I use a similar build in TPvP but go for a lot more damage.

Personally, I hate rifle on Warrior and while I don’t play engineer, I have seen some insane high DPS engineers run dungeons with me using rifle. The real issue with rifle on Warrior isn’t that it’s bad, but that it seems to be outclassed by our other weapon options in most situations.

New TPvP Build: Mace/Axe, Sword/Shield

First of all I would like to address all the Warriors on this forum whining about this patch. Do you even play Warrior or just play forum Warrior? That is all. This patch was amazing.

Now what everyone came here for, the build.

Playstyle is simple, burn your opponent’s stunbreaks and condi cleanses with Sw/Sh, Bolas, and Bulls. Swap to Ma/Ax and when you feel the time is right, hit them with a 4s stun followed by Whirling Axe for high DPS, swap back to Sw/Sh, shield bash—>Final Thrust to finish them off. Cleansing Ire and Lyssa Runes with a 48s CD on SOR for very good condi removal. WA also nearly fully refills your adren so you can spam those 4s stuns every 8s…not to mention you gain adren when hit thanks to Cleansing Ire. Fury uptime is great due to leg specialist + opportunist + sword + bolas. Savage leap + bulls charge + shield block + lyssa SOR + mace block for when you need to GTFO.

Great GvG last night against RAM from Yak’s Bend.

Final Score: ME: 3 RAM: 0

RAM were very respectable and honorable opponents. Very organized as well. Although the fights may not seem really close, I believe RAM has a lot of potential to become really good open field fighters. Who knows, maybe we’ll have a rematch someday.

And yes, I was the person who dropped the magic find bonfire. Hope nobody got offended by it or anything, it was all in good fun. I had to do something, after all, I am from Maguuma.

So you have 10,219 health and 1,400 toughness, and it’s arrow carts that are to blame for your lack of survivability?

He’s a necromancer with at least 20k HP. The 10k HP you see is because his health has been shredded by arrow carts.

You could try and combine the two for an effect like the old Rising Bile: deals no damage until it expires or is removed, but deals more damage the longer it was allowed to run.

I’d love something that provides an explicit condition cover, possibly with the option of requiring multiple cleanses to clear all stacks. Sort of like a condition cleanse based version of Defiant.

Oh I totally forgot about that skill. Hell, they should just do this. Bring back Rising Bile.

Are you forgetting that it’s not a 24k burst? But split up into 4 attacks which each have a 1 sec activation (one of them having a longer activation than that)?

But I’m not so much speaking on the premise of 24k AoE damage but more along the topic of making that trait more useful. Whatever the damage it’d do, it could be tweeked individually so it’s not straight up doubling the damage (wouldn’t be the first trait that says one thing but affects skills individually different).

24k in 5 seconds is burst. Show me another profession that can do that kind of damage at range in that time frame and maybe I’ll change my opinion. As for your second statement, now you’re beginning to talk about trait redesign and are discussing something completely different than what the OP suggested. The OP’s suggestion was that banners be considered physical utilities so that they receive a 100% damage boost and an additional 20% CD reduction…and to that I say no.

Technically, it’s 6 seconds because Battle Standard has an activation of 2 seconds. I’m sure you can get that kind of DPS with another set-up. I mean, have you seen WvW rifle builds? 16k in a little over 2 seconds from 1500 range and can pierce multiple targets which only requires 1 specific trait for it.

I guess now you’re going to add the stipulation of “well who can do 24k in 3 seconds with only 4 utilities!?!” to which I’ll just say I give up. You can win the argument if that’s what you want.

And redesigning a trait to work differently isn’t ‘completely different’ from what the OP is bringing up since that’s exactly what the OP is about. Answer this with a yes or no and I’ll at least concede to the point of it being overpowered: Is changing Physical Training to work with other utilities besides Physical types redesigning a trait?

No. it’s 5 seconds. 2+1+1+1=5. You realize in WvW you can get the banners to crit for nearly 4-5k? That means 8-10k per banner with the suggested change. That means a 36-40k burst per target. You wanna compare that to the rifle build? That will equal the rifle’s burst with 2 banners in 2 seconds. And good luck getting the rifle to pierce more than 3 targets. You want a little survivability? Swap out a banner for your skill of choice…or 2. Even only dropping 3 banners is bursting harder than 100 blades at range. Nearly the same channel time for both bursts. The difference is one is at range and significantly harder to dodge and hits 5 targets in an AoE. If you really think that would be balanced then I’m done with this conversation.

As for your final question, yes that is technically redesigning a trait but you were suggesting going much further (changing damage values, and you would have to change the CD reduction as well or else you give banners a 70ish second CD). I’m not saying no to a trait redesign but the OP’s initial suggestion was simply absurd.

That would be overpowered as hell. Banners can already crit for 3k in an AoE when summoned. This trait would make them crit for 6k in an AoE. Drop 4 banners on a group of enemies who are already occupied in a fight and boom, you just critted for 24k per target in an AoE.

Overpowered? Wouldn’t that just make it ‘worth it’ to use that GM trait + 4 banner utilities? That means you won’t have things like endure pain or sig of stamina and stuff or any sort of stun breakers.

And let’s not forget interruptible cast time.

If you don’t understand how a 24k AoE burst (120k if you hit 5 targets) without using any actual attack skills is overpowered in something like a WvW setting or Forest of Niflhel where you can drop them on unsuspecting palyers from a safe range, then I don’t know what else to tell you. Those numbers are also from SPvP. You can get the banners to hit MUCH harder in WvW. Not to mention that after you drop the banners you can use Longbow3 and F1 for even more AoE. Nobody should ever be able to lay down that much AoE burst damage from range. The last thing Warriors need right now is another damage buff. We need sustain.

In zerg v zerg fights hammer warriors are so easy to shut down. Organized zergs now stack necros which are super strong in those fights and properly traited wells will have perma chill on warriors. Organized zergs also have stability.

In organized zergs you also have tons of condition removal to keep off chills/cripples and boon stripping abilities to get rid of stability.

Condition applying is always more plentiful and more abundant then condition removal, especially when you have necros who properly condition bomb. I use hammer and sword/warhorn usually in WvW, sometimes going hammer/GS when doing open gate defenses and the like. I was always a huge proponent of hammers and still like them but it is so easy to shut down the warrior hammer pain trains. Just like it is easy to shut down warriors in competitive pvp.

Not true. In an organized group, there is so much AoE condi removal that you rarely have any condi on you for more than a second. Unless the other team is running nothing but necros.

Thing is, you do less dps with ONLY axe/mace. If you wanna maximize your dps you should use gs for HB -> whirlwind -> swap to axe -> 6 normal attacks -> swap back to gs for HB.

If you are traited for axe, there is no point in switching to GS for 100B. A traited axe does far more DPS than an untraited 100B.

I carry an exotic weapon with berserker’s stats and an appropriate sigil for every weapon possible except for rifle. I also have duplicates of any weapon you can wield two of at a time.

We have a group dedicated to farming CoE and giving all our cores for one person to work on their legendary.

The reasons no one goes to CoE:

  • You have to event unlock it. When is it available? WHO KNOWS?!
  • The event is long, and the Champion at the end can and will reset if you don’t have enough people due to his teleport and that he can knock you off in to the water with no way to re-engage.
  • Subject Alpha is very unforgiving on almost all his fights. You miss a dodge? Welp game over. No one can res you without an instant ability because he spams all day.
  • It’s long. It’s full of bosses with big humongous oversized hp bars. Timed events and/or task completion events make it go even slower.
  • Subject Alpha is a kittening jerk.
  • Meh rewards. We maybe get one core/stone per run between all 5 of us on average.

Seriously, after putzing around for 30-45 minutes to complete the event to open the place up, half the time I don’t even want to run it anymore because I know it’s going to be another hour long ordeal that just isn’t worth the time.

I’m sorry but this sounds like a giant L2P situation.
– The event to open CoE is easy. The final champion of the event is easy too. I frequently open up the dungeon with only 3 people which is 3/5 of what you need to run the dungeon anyway. Don’t want to get knocked into the water by the champ? Simply use stability or dodge out of red circles. Not that hard. Event isn’t up? Guest to another server and check there.
- Subject Alpha is insanely easy once you know his mechanics. How hard is it for people to count to 2 and dodge? Stay stacked so you can res people quickly if they miss a dodge.
With a good group you can run all 3 paths of CoE in less than an hour. With a really good group you can get that down to less than 40 minutes. This is a very effective charged core/lodestone farming method and you will also get close to 200 tokens per run that you can exchange for 6 rares and salvage for ectos. Between that and all the gold you make from the dungeon itself, and you can buy yourself more charged cores/lodestones. If you have more than 1 character you can run it more than once per day and still get full tokens.
The reason charged lodestones are so expensive is because the items that use them in their recipes are very desirable and most people do not realize how effective CoE farming can be.

It sounds good at first, until you realize that damage mitigation in this game is better served with dodges, blocks, and invulnerabilities. Not % damage reduction. With this change you would make heavy armor less tanky and light armor more tanky.
