Please change how the druid holds the staff . It is not a melee character and the animations do not look appropriate for a caster with glowy-dainty-flower spells.

We get that you all are all pleased about Rev and Thief melee staves but don’t group druid in with their idle animations.

Proposed Pet Changes

in Ranger

Posted by: Bingo.2174

Bingo.2174

A “bug” (as in unintended consequence to changes) is that Rangers must switch pets out very very frequently to sustain a buff that our class seems to have been balanced around Devs assuming it is always up… This means every 25 seconds, you switch your pet and the new one is forced to run or fly from you to the target. For ranged Rangers, this can be yet another large dps loss as pets take kittened pathing. Essentially, it is a punishment for ranged Rangers using the class mechanic. Furthermore, ranged pets like devour or spiders are unusable because the f2 skill is instant and will only hit those in proximity… They will not run closer to insure skills hit.

An example of the detriment of these changes to pets is obvious in Forest of Nif. Rangers can not take the high ground up top because pets have to literally run down, around, and up the stairs in each pet swap.

… Imo pets should teleport to target x.x

Changing the trait “7% vitality converts to power” into “7% healing power converts to power” isn’t a bug but it is kittened so I would like to draw attention to that :p

Also would like to point out that elementalists use bows better than Rangers. LBs used to be a medium dps and medium reward weapon…. Now it is low reward and higher risk since other classes got buffs that lowered their time to kill us. Bows were a defining weapon of the class and yet Anet is trying to make Rangers another melee class like rest of the pack.

The problem is that they made an entire style of play worthless. Devs claim to want diversity but what other class played like LB ranger? It was the closest thing to a sniper we have.

I don’t care that ranger does not = ranged. Bow (both LB and SB) were cetral to the theme of ranger. Melee is done better and with more utility by eles, guardians, warriors, thieves….

the best thing with the traits as they are is that you longbow do MORE dmg with remorseless build then you do with LONGBOW BUILD (btw in my opinion Lead the Wind is a joke)

Yeah, that’s been my experience too. I used to run LB/GS with LB traits in PvE. My LB damage with Remorseless and effectively perma-fury is actually significantly higher than pre-patch. Only reason I switched away from LB/GS is because GS/S/A is a lot of fun.

But that’s fury from switching pet on cooldown right? Switching when you are at range with LB forces melee pets to have to run back to target and lose dps.
Plus, we shouldn’t have to have constant boons to reach the amount of dps we were doing pre patch sans-boons. :\

I agree it is easier to use interface-wise however I do not agree with all the “people that aren’t performing better now than before are idiots” undertone to your post.

While some changes might help your build (which you never said what it was…?), that doesn’t mean the class as a whole wasn’t nerfed due to poor design choice. How can you really defend the trait that has 7% healing power converted to power? It’s a trait that shouldn’t even be an option outside of PERHAPS the eventual druid traitline.

Inclusions like this and exclusions for talents that were required to pull acceptable dps prior show a lack of unified vision from the devs that changed ranger.

SURE, you might have found one niche spec that works for you but does that justify the nerfs that have made both LB and SB weak on a class that was a bit niche at playing them?

People don’t want to be pinned into playing one play style. We were making do with a variety of builds before but the changes are funneling us all to have to pick similar traits and contend with being homogeneously subpar.

P.S. The fact you can solo TA spider path means nothing when other classes are also able to do it, probably in half the time :P Hit anything long enough and it dies.

Ranger was in a pretty decent spot overall pre-23. Was it the best? No. Did it lack in some areas? Sure. But the areas it lacked in were made up for by mobility and survivability and flexibility of play.

Nerfs to ranger and buffs to other classes really make it necessary for Anet to reevaluate the current state of ranger… the sooner the better.

We have lost the ability to be competitive with two of our two handed weapons (LB and SB), and have glitched off-hand range. Dare I say we are in a worse state than necro? :P

Why does shortbow suck?

Bingo.2174

How exactly is the SB any worse off than the LB?

LB #1 is terrible unless you trait lead the wind
LB #2 has so many ways to avoid / interrupt / negate it that its laughable
LB #3 requires you hit to stealth, and the stealth is ‘meh’ at best
LB #4 is more known for angering people than actually being any use (and also easy to negate)
LB #5 is LOL

So, both bows are terrible then? Slippery slope to…Ranger in general is terrible then.

The issues with the SB are:

1. The range, it really needs 1200 for cripple / concussion to be threatening

2. Concussion shot needs a cooldown reduction

3. Possibly slight damage modifier increases, more to the auto attack than anything as the other skills are pretty utility oriented

Oh, and to the people that say SB is the worst designed weapon in the game…over OH axe? Really?

Im talking about SB as its a weapon that has 5 skill set… and i’m comparing that to ALL weapon sets similar to 5 skills… like greatswords, staffs, etc..thats what i’m comparing SB to.. not a single hand weapon like OH axe.. which I agree is worthless lol but its infinitely more useful at least in PvE than SB will ever be.

SB is literally useless in EVERY aspect of the game.

Heh, this is one of those instances where you’re both agreeing- both bows suck! Both bows need buffs!

I’ll stress this out:
Longbow ranger, has literally 1 way of playing it in master line. No diversity, other options are to stupid and worthless. Focus ranger does not exist. Condition ranger has a lot lower pressure then other condition classes. Trapper ranger is totally destroyed, anet just decided to destroy one of most fun ranger builds with removing trait “with ground targeting traps”. They way anet ignores ranger community for 3 years now is unrealistic and I wonder when did this hate to our ranger class came from. Regeneration ranger is dead. Fury ranger never succeeded. And QuickDraw ranger is not working that well either, even when people thought at first that this trait is crazy good but meh it’s average, but brought something new i give them credit for that. Let’s continue, Spirit ranger is dead long ago, the pointless of this spirits is just unreal. 1 sec pre cast 3 sec before you get first benefit, and cooldown of spirit when your spirit dies? Suicide on use, and are 3 hit or 1 hit if you waste condi burn on them. What kind of joke is this? Elite spirit is just pure joke also.

What i’ve realized is, 8/20 utilities are useless right now, and 1/3 elites are worthless as well. so this gives us conclusion that 48% skills are currently practically without synergy and real proper use.ANET WAKE UP, I DON’T WANT YOUR LOVE, I WANT YOUR FAIR COMBAT BALANCE OF EVERY CLASS..

but but but we can convert a bit of healing power into power. surely that’s a huge buff, right? /s

It’s ok, we aren’t archers, we are Rangers.

But bows are a defining weapon of our class.
It’d be like nerfing staffs to be useless on elementalists.

Apparently, rangers has nothing to do with attacking from range.

Also staff is not the defining weapon of the elementalist, unfortunately. That would be D/ since most of the builds revolve around D/ and D/ is the only weapon set that requires more than simply camping in one attunement in PvE.

tl;dr
bows are not the defining weapons of the ranger class in gw2, it might be if it was based on the LOTR archtype.

Staff isn’t either for ele, it is dagger/

Builds might revolve around dagger for ele but most eles in casual areas are using a staff. Daggers are for dps so it’s “the meta” but that doesn’t mean they are the trope-weapon of the ele. Same way bow was never the highest dps weapon for a ranger but it was the defining weapon.

Similar to thieves and MG dagger. Is it always a great choice? No… but it should always be a very viable choice because it fits with the class archetype.

LBs really were rangers “defining” weapon because they used them like no one else cold… only warriors had access to them and they were an offset buffing weapon, not a damage one. Because of that, using a LB as a primary weapon was pretty much unique to rangers… and that is why I claim it as a “defining weapon.”

Does it need to be ranger’s best weapon? No. But it needs to be respectable enough to use adequately. We were sold a class that could do well at range and that has been taken from us.
Return bow to being middle of the pack in terms of damage and I’m fine. As it stands, it has low dps, no utility, and minimum survivability. It is a waste of a weapon.

Pretty bad depending on the class. Ranger got shafted in a lot of ways. It seems like things were changed around and removed without any consideration to how the community plays or enjoys using ranger. One of our traits now converts 7% healing power into power. It’s like “do you even ranger?”
Rangers were heavily trait dependent to be able to pull good dps in PVP and adequate dps in dungeons. Those traits are gone.

I compare this class’s traits to other classes’ traits, and they are dreadful by comparison. All four of the traitlines.

What’s difficult to understand?

Ahahah, a LOT of traits are bad on several classes at the moment. Rangers lost the 5% vitality converted into power trait and had it replaced with 7% healing power converted to power.

Anet has no idea what they are doing.

We lost:
a +10% damage modifier from Hunter’s Tactics trait (turned into crit chance)
a +5% damage modifier from former trait Eagle’s Eye
6% critical damage via ferocity stat loss
And we lost the 5% vitality converted into power trait. This was replaced with 7% healing power converted to power.

LB ranger hits for noodles now. Anet is stripping the ranger of wanting to use its ranged weapons. It’s all "stack or leave from here on out.

(BY comparison: on warrior in the defense tree Armored attack 10% toughness turned into power. This gives you extra power even when you are fully zerk.)

The only place it kind of fits is in a celestial setup. Unfortunately, I really don’t know how to make celestial work well on ranger. Might stacking is not easy to do like an ele or engi, our power weapons hit like a wet noodle without zerker amulet and our condi weapons do almost no power damage at all. Maybe the remorseless cavalier build is the only build that can use this minor. For everyone else it literally adds 0 value.

Funny thing is that the whole trait revamp was done to remove traits that the devs felt added 0 value and were never picked.

…As it is, though, LBs are ONLY good for power glass builds…

Celestial Hybrid LB is pretty nice actually, should try it out some time.

Saddly I have…. Unless I’m really messing up my trait (and since I’ve been going off other’s guids and common sense i don’t htink I am), I am just not able to balance between sustain and killing power. A 1 v 1 becomes a 2 v 1 with me running or dead and a team engagement leaves me feeling my greatest contribution is some slightly annoying dps that forces them to waste a dodgeroll or me hitting a well timed interrupt on an enemy’s heal. I don’t feel like I am able to really assist focus don the way I used to… and the constant need to be switching pets out for sustained buffs leaves positioning as a massive issue…. Like on Niflhel… if I am up top, pewpewing away, and have to switch from spider to wolf for the buff, my wolf then has to walk down and around to join the battle. :\ Previously I could just keep my pets alive and avoid needing to switch in instances like that but the buff-on-swap is not MANDATORY for us to be able to pump as much dmg out as we can in our kitten state.

Ranger gets staff, thief gets rifle

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Bingo.2174

Bingo.2174

Doesn’t the difficulty that anet has had with balancing the P/P set as our range dps option kind of kill the hope that rifle would be this god send of a damage option given to us at 1200 range?

Oh, if anyone expects the rifle to be “god sent of a damage option” they are definitely naive. Range damage in this game takes a second place compared to melee, and there’s no reason why it should be different in this case either. Still, a 1200 range option has a value in itself.

At the same time, hoping that staff will make thief better at things they are already good with is even more naive.

But having 1200 range doesn’t mean the damage needs to be lower than melee. Staff ele in pve is still one of the highest dps you can have.

Ranger issues that need fixed

Bingo.2174

LB took a massive hit. I came back today and spent all day messing with the different traits and no matter what i’ve done i cant get anywhere near the damage potential i had before the changes. And i think the decrease in damage is literally somewhere around 50% because i know i was hitting around 3k auto attack before this change and now i’m only doing around 1.5k

And another power build trait they removed was Strength of Spirit which converted vitality into power and instead changed it to convert healing power into power. (which doesnt even need an explanation for how useless that is)

I dunno what you’re doing wrong, but I still hit 3-4k autos at max range.

How are you doing this much damage then and with what build? Because i played with all of them and none are reaching anywhere that much damage.

And my gear is Power/Precision/Vitality/Ferocity (which is the same as pure zerk gear except i get vitality at the cost of a little precision)

A little precision goes a long way. You’re losing ~12% crit chance by not slotting pure zerker gear.

My initial post may have exaggerated slightly, but I generally open with strength of the pack and a marsh drake F2 to get some might stacks. With 5 targets, I hit 25 might instantly, assuming the drake’s attack hits them all.

So your gaining that damage through might stacking. My original comment about losing dps was without the inclusion of any buffs. Obviously stacking might is going to bring my damage up but prior to the changes might stacking would have brought my damage up as well which would have given me different numbers than 3k. This means that the issue is still present and the LB’s damage potential has been significantly nerfed.

And for my gear i’m waiting to find out if they plan on bringing back some of the ranger traits they removed before changing it back to pure zerk gear. Prior to the change there was a trait that converted 5% vitality into power which made the power/precision/vitality/ferocity gear worth it since you sacrificed a little precision for an increase in power. And with the fury buff you could still achieve well over 50% crit accuracy (right now with the changes to stats on gear i have over 50% crit before the fury buff). If they dont bring back some of the former traits however i will end up going back to pure zerk gear

QFT.

It seems anet logic was “Rangers complain about not being able to self combo and buff… let’s give them a way to apply more buffs…. but in the process, remove a fair chunk of their damage.” Now those self- buffs are MANDATORY to pull numbers that are just barely scraping the lower end of what we could previously do without self-might stacking.

Furthermore, these self buffs require generally being in melee range of the target, thus further crippling the ranged roles of rangers. If you do choose to play at range, the pretty much mandatory “switch pet on cooldown” rotation results in a further dps loss because the new pet then has to run its jolly kitten over you your target.

It’s really sad that people are clinging on to that signet LB + GS glass build instead of looking into other options. Rangers do not currently suck. We just are not on the high end of the unbalance meter like some other classes are at the moment.

Oh, and shouts definitely do not suck. But keep bringing Entangle like that does anything lol.

We aren’t “clinging” to it. We just want to be able to use bows. We are one of two classes that can use them, and the only class that can use them /well/. I don’t care if I have to go condition or bunker to use a longbow…. I enjoyed having the option of being a valuable part of a team at range. As it is, though, LBs are ONLY good for power glass builds. The limited conditions you can apply with it are out done by other weapon sets. That means it IS exclusively a power weapon. As it stands, rangers do NOT have the build, stats, traits needed to be able to be an effective ranged power build.

They are forcing a class that had a good mix of melee and range to become melee only.

Sadly no, because ArenaNet still probably thinks that the ‘dragonhunter’ name is “high concept.”

That whole post of his was a cringe fest. They back-peddald so kitten the BIG GAME HUNTER the Dragonkitten was sold as (it’s even in the trait names!) and tried to make it sound edgy and cool like a witch hunter. Alas, he just came off as pretentious instead of understanding.

Two classes used LB as it stands: Ranger and Warrior. Warrior uses LB as primarily an off-hand weapon if at all.
Rangers have the unique class ability to let them have extra range.
Clearly, the LB is a defining weapon of the class, something that separates them from the melee rumble-tumble other classes offer.
Nerfing LB to the point of it being nonviable really removes any separation rangers had from other melee classes and, at that point, why go ranger when you can be a their or a warrior or a guardian or a DD ele or a condition necro or a … etc etc etc.

ANet Out of Touch

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Bingo.2174

Anet is out of touch: too busy bending to the few to satisfy the many.

I’ve enjoyed Gw2 since launch. Sure, I’ve dabbled in other games, but I’ve always come back, spent my token amount of money on gems, and had my fun. (Even received two Christmas cards from them! Thank you btw!)

However, with the latest overhaul patch (and, it seems, the direction of the expansion), a worrying trend is becoming evident in how the community is handled.

In one corner, we have Anet treating WVW beta weekends as a promo tool: fair-weathered streamers get in while the true commanders and their followers are left out. We can’t really blame them for wanting to up the hype and, were this a one off incident, it could be excusable… The problem is, though, that it highlights a deeper trend: Developers favoring the outliers’ input rather than the feedback of the community at large.

For instance, we see design changes done to classes that are proposed by a select few people, namely, the “top tier” PVPers. Take a look at (this thread)[https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/Fix-for-Taunt-coming-soon/first#post5249818] . In it you’ll see “bugs” and suggestions that Backpack and the Abjured team noted that were fast tracked for implementation. While legitimate bug fixes are appreciated, the end agenda of the select few giving input isn’t the same as the community at large. You can see within that one thread that there are voices of opposition to the “fixes” that were suggested (and patched in) because these “fixes” show a lack of understanding about the class as played and enjoyed and used by people that aren’t at the top percentile of players.

To date, ANet has failed to deliver on community leaders that truly understand what the players want and how classes work… and, sadly, listening only to a select few is actually taking them further off mark. The untested, unbalanced wreck that as the June 23rd patch shows all the more reason why Anet needs to get back to its core of being an MMO instead of an E-sports pretender.

TL;DR: Do you want another Wildstar? Because only listening to the hardcore-players is how you get another Wildstar flop.

Why no word on fixing pets, Anet?

P.S. Re: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/Fix-for-Taunt-coming-soon/first#post5249818

Devs need to start listening to community feedback, not “special player” feedback. We all know what a monumental failure Wildstar was, right? Why? Because that game catered to the few- the self proclaimed hardcore. When a dev team takes only advice from the “hardcore” or “elite” players, they take a class in a direction that loses its appeal for many. While fixing bugs and exploits is always a good thing, they are certain play style expectations that rangers have come either to be accustom to or to expect. (Functional pets, being a superior bow wielder instead of just another melee-only-stack-or-gtfo class, traps that are ground targetable, etc.)
To balance a class around an engineer’s pov, regardless of how good that player might be, is a discredit to the large community that wants to play ranger and keep the core of the class in line with what we were sold.

No time has been wasted in “fixing” “bugs” by adding internal cool downs but why is the Ranger class mechanic of pets allowed to suffer without even acknowledgment?

https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3bzpmx/ranger_pets_are_even_worse_off_than_before_the/?sort=new

Since the big update, Rangers have seen their damage reduced across the board, with no QoL improvements, no class mechanic improvements, and no communication about what to expect going forward. Ranger has long been dancing across the line of under-performing and acceptable but, post patch, I feel it is firmly within the realm of under-performing in all aspects of the game- spvp, wvw and pve.

If Anet can waste no times in patching the pet stow “bug”, why can’t they see that pets are assigned proper attributes? Or that LB is doing its proper damage? Or that healing spring actually heals?

As an aside and general outlook, I feel like this the massive trait patch was quite unneeded and rose so many more problems than it solved. There were some classes that needed to be bolstered and some that needed to be tweaked down a bit but overall I felt the game balance was much more stable a month ago.
