King Toad... In trib mode

Biohazard.4196

Have you defeated him in normal mode so that you know, in general, what to expect and how to approach the fight? If you haven’t, I recommend doing that so that you can have a knowledge of the fight in tribulation mode, because he is defeated in the same manner.

If you are familiar with the fight, I recommend standing on one of the small rocks until King Toad unleashed one of his waves. Immediately after that, jump to him and start whacking at his jewel. I’d also recommend putting your “1 attack” on autoattack.
If you see him start an animation that means he’s about to unleash another wave, stop attacking the jewel. Back up to the back of his large pad and dodge toward him when he unleashes the wave. You should be able to avoid the wave and also stay on the pad. After that, pick up the jewel and retreat/wait for the time when he opens his mouth so that you can throw the piece in.

After you’ve thrown the piece in, you of course just whack him with your autoattack until he dies. Another tip I have is to use your elite Moto’s Finger if you have it. The skill does much more damage than your autoattack. You can only use it once per life, but you’ll likely be dying here multiple times anyway. I definitely did. However, with a little patience and time to learn how to dodge the waves (which I think is the key), you should be able to kill him after 2-3 jewel fragments if you use Moto’s Finger.

Future of gauntlet tickets?

Moreover, they took a “rare loot” spot in the loot tables.

This is apparently a common misconception. Just like kite fortunes and support tokens, these items are added in a separate loot table. They do not affect your chance at rare quality equipment drops, otherwise you wouldn’t be getting nearly as many as you have been.

On topic: As others have said, since this is will be recurring content in the future the tickets will likely remain as they are, without merch value.

Do you have a source for that? The devs specifically said a couple months ago that the contents of loot boxes, bags, etc is not determined until you open the box/bag/etc. What you are saying is in direct contradiction with the devs previous response.

Of course it is equally as likely that the devs just don’t know how it works.

That doesn’t preclude the possibility of tickets coming from a different loot table. Both could be drawn from at the same time without interfering with one another.

you know what a great birthday gift is? a precursor. or an ascended weapon of your choice. not a minipet.

of course, this will never happen. coz you have to grind for it in a game that is supposed to be without grind.

A precursor or ascended weapon as a gift for successfully logging in twice, a year apart? Log in Wars 2?

You are a closed-minded sheep. The OP has every right to be sore. You would be complaining too if you actually played GW1.

That doesn’t make any sense.

Following “closed-minded sheep” with such a ridiculous absolute statement makes for quite the ironic post.

Definitely bad manners. The OP’s feelings, like anyone’s, are neither right nor wrong, he fells how he feels. He does have a right to post feedback to a company he purchased a product from, and he should be able to do it without ridicule from the community. Just like you should be able to post an opposing viewpoint without ridicule.

I’m just pointing out that saying “You would be complaining too if you actually played GW1.” is a false absolute statement that seems to exclude other viewpoints. And it was stated after using a phrase that implied others were excluding other viewpoints.

I haven’t made a statement about the OP.

The reward clearly isn’t universally bad. Some are enjoying it.

When I open my eyes, I see a lvl 20 scroll, a birthday booster, and a Queen Jennah mini. The extra minis and scrolls aren’t of any use to me, but the boosters can be. Thus, I see a positive outcome. A different mini for each gift like in GW1 would have certainly been more interesting. However, I see no reason to become more than momentarily unimpressed and certainly no reason to become angry.

snip

I agree with you and everyone else that there were valuable gifts in the birthday present. I’m not angry at ArenaNet, I just think it was kinda cheap and easy to give out identical minis instead of keeping the mystery of random chance. And yes, I know a lot of people are screaming about rng, I’m not one of them. I don’t seem to do very well, but I don’t mind it (maybe because I played D&D).

So yeah, I’m just basically providing feedback to ArenaNet that I would’ve preferred a random mini to 8 identical ones. ArenaNet has the choice to do whatever they want with that feedback, but it’s definitely not a sense of ‘entitlement’.

Indeed, a random mini would certainly have been more interesting. Giving out so many duplicates does seem a little strange, and I’d be much more concerned if this were a reward for, well, anything. I’m just disheartened by the degree of anger I see.

And providing that feedback is perfectly fine and does not, like you said, necessarily indicate a sense of entitlement. I can’t help but start to think that way, however, when some are showing so much anger or disappointment over an unmet expectation that may not have been warranted since it was never promised or foreshadowed.

I prefer getting nothing……..as the gift was nothing in the first place or just to infuriate players…………

I think we’d all prefer you got nothing.

Those scrolls are kitten good buffs and I got a boatload of them. I’m buffed for weeks of my actual play time.

You focus on the mini, I focus on the extra magic find.

Enjoy your unhappiness.

This ^ right here, ladies and gentlemen, is the reason Guild Wars 2 is going downhill. Anet dishes out bad content and ridiculous rewards, and players like Vayne accept and even agree with the content/rewards. Seriously, open your eyes and actually look at what the reward is for once. I felt more rewarded after I finished mario bros when I got absolutely nothing. At least Mario gave me fun in exchange for playing the game.

The reward clearly isn’t universally bad. Some are enjoying it.

I do agree with you, however, in that I felt more rewarded when I beat Mario Bros. and got nothing. That’s because the reward for beating Mario Bros. was satisfaction at having beaten the game. The reward for your GW2 birthday is for nothing more than having a character exist for a year. You didn’t do anything to earn the birthday reward, so of course you’re going to feel better about having accomplished something! (Mario).

I’d be more suspect if this reward was for having done anything. Rather, the birthday present is rewarding the least possible “accomplishment:” existing. To receive the reward, the only thing you “accomplish” is logging in twice: once at character creation and once a year later. I wouldn’t care if they gave me 2 broken lockpicks as a gift since it’s a gift for almost literally doing nothing.

So about the legendary rework... [SPOILERS]

I have seen no evidence to suggest that ascended weapons won’t have sigils. Can you link where you are getting this information?

I mean it is also possible that the new ascended weapons will all have level 1 stats and do damage to you instead of the enemy when you use them… but there is no valid reason to believe the devs would do this…

Just using Ascended gear as a base for what Ascended weapons will be. Ascended gear doesn’t use Sigils. It uses Infusions. So I (we) would just assume that Ascended weapons would follow the same path as their armor counterpart, since they are from the same set.

Otherwise they wouldn’t be Ascended weapons if they didn’t share the same characteristics of Ascended gear. They would be a different tier like Destiny or UberPwn weapons instead of Ascended.

But that’s simply not the case. Nothing was “replaced” at all in ascended jewelery. The slot was moved directly into the stats and then an infusion slot was added in addition. Jewelery never had sigils or runes. Nothing was removed from those slots, only things were added. I don’t see any reason the weapons won’t be the same.

Sigls are different from Jewels though.

With earlier Ascended gear, they used jewels. Weapons use sigils, not jewels. So those extra boosts to your stats don’t come with weapons. Weapons have different effects that happen, like increased crit on hit or lightning strike on hit, etc etc. It isn’t +10 power or +10 toughness like jewels.

With Ascended gear, they just added the usual jewels that would of been equipped, into the stats. But you can’t do that with weapons cause they don’t use stat jewels. They use sigils that give situational bonuses.

You just described why it can’t be assumed that sigils will be removed. Sigils don’t serve the same function as jewels.

So about the legendary rework... [SPOILERS]

Why are people making up stuff and saying the infusions would replace sigils? Are you just stirring up kitten and trying to find reasons to hate this patch?

How come everytime i see your name you are hating on the OP?… Im just saying that other ascended items dont have normal upgrades so i am asking if thats the case here.. im not trying to hate the patch…?

Legendary items are not ascended. Also, there haven’t been any ascended weapons yet. Thus, there’s no precedent for the interaction of sigils and infusions on legendary weapons.

The waypoint cost has been reduced by ~20%.

Well, I reckon that either the election was fixed or they will still get their fractal. I somehow doubt they actually prepared two different things and just threw one away, so either they never made the fractal or it will still come out, just a bit later.

I believe there was a developer response on this during the vote: no preparations for either fractal had been made prior to the end of the vote.

Do not want. I’m already tired of activities and 1-shot challenges. I have no time to just enjoy game. Instead I am compelled to do LS achievements in time limits.

If you think that feeling compelled to do Living Story achievements in a limited time period is a bad thing, then adding the gauntlet permanently should be exactly what you want.

Queen's Gauntlet Entrance Tickets

These are beginning to anger me like nothing else in this game. The tickets are needed to access the Queen’s Gauntlet, a difficult set of gladiatorial fights. What frustrates me is that the Gauntlet, which is difficult temporary content, is being gated by soulbound items that seem to require a significant amount of grinding to obtain.

I don’t think I’m very good at succeeding quickly with the Queen’s Gauntlet fights. It’s fine that they’re difficult. What’s frustrating is that I don’t feel like I can practice, really, because I’m consuming tickets at an alarming rate. The tickets don’t seem to drop very often either. You get 1 from each Legendary enemy in the Crown Plaza, correct? I’ve gotten some there and only 4 as drops after completing all my Emissary kills achievements plus some while farming.

Lastly, if I farm for hours to get a handful of tickets and later discover that I need/want a different character in order to complete a fight, I’m out of luck because they’re soulbound. All of that farming time went to waste.

What I’m trying to say is that I’m not sure that gating difficult temporary content behind soulbound items that are seemingly rare drops is a good idea.

Am I missing something important? I really hope that I am, because completing the gauntlet as is seems daunting with the ticket gate.

Fractals being tied into the vote

Biohazard.4196

This isn’t really about which fractal, this is about the really dumb idea of a bunch of people who don’t even run fractals deciding which fractal we get to run. If you vote for Ellen because you want Thaumanova, I disagree with you, but fine, you’re voting on what fractal you want to run.

if you dont’ run fractals and are voting Kiel because you want cheaper waypoints (often not reading the part where it’s only 4 weeks) then no, not cool, I hope you end up spending triple the amount of “savings” on waypoints in repair bills.

This is ridiculous. Voting for waypoint discounts is perfectly valid. However, that promise couldn’t be separated from the fractal. Given you don’t care about anything else, each benefit is an equally valid reason to vote on a particular candidate.

“Valid” for people who don’t even run fractals to decide which fractal gets made? For content they will never do? Screw that.

Are you saying that the only legitimate reason for which to vote is based on fractal choice? That doesn’t make sense.

By your logic, if you never buy Black Lion Keys or use waypoints, voting for Ellen Kiel isn’t “valid” because you’re deciding which temporary benefit gets made while never intending to use it. That’s flawed.

That garbage isn’t permanent, the fractal is.

Keys or waypoints are insignificant in the long run, the fractal will be around as long as the game is around. The other fractal idea now gets trash canned. I almost wish that fractal idea wasn’t being voted on but another lame fractal on the same level as Thaumanova, a more recent choice, something like the Consortium discovering Southsun or something. At least then the Abaddon fractal would be a possibility in the future. But because of this vote and Anet wanting our vote to feel like it mattered, they will never make the Abaddon fractal, we will never see it, and our knowledge of it will come entirely from a wiki page and “legends” from thousands of years ago. The fractal idea is as good as trashed now.

This is literally like a choice between getting to see the Chernobyl meltdown, vs the war in heaven between God and Satan and 1/3 of the Angels being cast down from Heaven. Yeah, sure you can read about it in the bible still, but that’s a little different from being able to see it with your own eyes. We’ll always get to see more reactor disasters, Three Mile Island, Fukushima, and who knows what other reactors will have disasters in the future. But I can guarantee you you’ll probably never see fallen angels fighting God with your own eyes. Just like you’ll never see Abaddon vs the 5 Gods in a fractal.

As I’ve said before, content duration is irrelevant. If I only care about one aspect of the vote, I have a right to vote based on that aspect regardless of what it is or what the other aspects are. The pairing of permanent fractal content with temporary content may have been unfortunate, but that’s another issue.

Additionally, you implied that we’ll be able to see events in the future similar to what happened at Thaumanova. How do you know this is true? We don’t even know exactly what that was. I don’t think potentially similar art and enemy types doesn’t explain it enough.

Such an aggressive attitude based completely on conjecture seems like sour grapes.

We’ve already seen something similar to Thaumanova. It’s called Crucible of Eternity.

It catastrophically exploded? Is there a path 4 that I haven’t explored?

The examples you listed (Chernobyl, Three Mile Island, Fukushima) that implied we’ve seen similar events involve reactor failures of some kind. Crucible of Eternity didn’t fail; it was raided.

I can, however, understand why one might want to see an Abbadon fractal over Thaumanova given the thematic connections between Thaumanova and the Crucible of Eternity. That’s fine. It does not, however, mean that an Abbadon fractal is superior.

Why can’t people vote for temporary content? If someone waypoints around constantly and likes the idea of a discount but doesn’t play fractals, why can’t they vote for Ellen Kiel?

The duration is irrelevant.

And that’s exactly why fractals being tied into the vote is wrong.
You didn’t care about the fractals – you just wanted cheaper waypoints – yet your choice had a lasting impact on them.

Ah, but whether some benefits should have been tied with others is a different topic entirely.

It’s interesting that you bring up Black Lion Chests. Cheaper keys are a promise from Evon, correct? If Anet has a vested interest in “scamming Gems out of people,” why wouldn’t they rig the election for him?

You have the impression that lower key prices would mean more money for them, but that would seem like the complete opposite to me. Lower prices would obviously mean less gained when people buy them, and it would also make it much easier for people to buy them entirely with Gold.
Whether or not people would actually buy more of them than they otherwise would because of the sale, and if they would buy enough more to counteract the sale and make them even more money is very debatable. Considering the terrible stigma BLCs have, it seems unlikely.

Discounting is a common advertising tool. I’d imagine that if it didn’t often bring in more business, companies would have stopped using discount ads long ago.

Because it’s not one vote per person, and initially the results should have been severely skewed by people running both candidates for the achievements.
People switching off to support a single candidate after getting their achievements, and people putting in progressively more votes for a single candidate would make it spectacularly unlikely that they would remain even at all, let alone remain the same percent split they were the week before.
Those numbers are just way, way too unlikely to be real.

How many votes did it take you to complete your achievements? For me, I think it took two or three. Three votes is negligible compared to the hundreds cast “for real” after achievements have been earned.

And if a similar number of people progressively vote more for each candidate, the numbers may remain similar.

Having the listed numbers be practically even while still supporting Kiel also just happens to align perfectly with their interests; they’ve spent a lot of time building up Kiel and clearly have a vested interest in her, whereas Evon has appeared completely out of nowhere for the sole purpose of this election.

I don’t understand how Kiel being an established character means that there’s a vested interest in having her win. Is it not plausible that nothing is specifically planned for her?

I’m not saying that her establishment isn’t important, however. I imagine it’s an advantage for her, but that doesn’t mean that Anet has a vested interest in her.

And having them remain relatively even means that people will not see it as a lost cause and continue to spend loads of both Gems and Gold on more votes in an effort to shift the results, as well as having good reason to continue playing the content without feeling terribly bored of it. They probably didn’t even put in the tech to track votes, because it would have taken a lot of time and effort.

Maybe. The numbers are remarkably close, like you said.

However, these are reasons for which the vote numbers would be faked, not the election itself. I don’t see a correlation at all.

That would mean the whole “election” was created only to drum up some hype over the game while scamming Gems out of people and reducing some of the excess Gold in the market. That might seem too shady to be likely itself, but keep in mind how Black Lion Chests work. They clearly aren’t above shady choices when real money is involved.

After seeing that both are apparently at the very same percents as before, the idea that this election is fake is really seeming plausible now.

Why?
The larger the vote totals are, the more “difficult” it is to change the percentages.

Personally, if I were faking this thing, I think I would change the numbers in an attempt to make it look more real.

The results are within the margin of error. The race is ‘officially’ dead even.

Nothing seems fishy at all about that. Nope, not a thing.

While you are playing Guild Wars 2, ArenaNet is playing you.

What would be the motivation for rigging the election?

Also what is the margin of error? (I know the concept; I’m asking you for the approximate number.) I think that the margin of error would be very low for a count such as this, where each vote is electronically tallied and (likely) received in a single location. Other counts, such as political elections, are not like this.

The close margin is interesting, but thinking that the election is a conspiracy is still not plausible to me given that I can’t imagine a motivation for rigging it.

After all, no one that votes for a smelly, evil charr such as Evon can be trusted.
Vote for Kiel. Vote for truth.

A close campaign may stimulate players to log more game hours than usual in order to support their candidate.

It may also cause active players to rally their friends, who may be taking a break from the game, to log back in to help them sway the election.

Wealthier players may spend more IRL cash on gems so as to exchange the gems for gold in order to buy other players’ votes. Isn’t the going rate something like 10 votes per gold at the moment?

EDIT: To calculate the margin of error, I used this formula and came out to ~3% but many of the factors involved were educated guesses.
http://statistics.about.com/od/Inferential-Statistics/a/How-To-Calculate-The-Margin-Of-Error.htm

Those are reasons for posting false vote numbers. I fail to see how those are reasons for rigging the election.

Also, how did you get 3% using that formula? With a 95% confidence interval, the sample size needed to get 3% is roughly 830 to 1500. Aren’t we dealing with a sample size considerably larger than that?

As always, I broke agro if I got any, again, even if it ment loseing supplies.

Whenever I run far away to break aggro, the enemies do not run away from the spawn points. Instead, they just stand nearby where the aggro was broken. Thus, at a certain point (~5:30 left), I can’t safely attack plunderers at their spawn points.

Have you ever experienced this and, if so, how did you remedy it?

I just want to log on and not have to organize a group, or spam /m to do so. A system that organized groups for you, or would scale down to number of players would be great.

Are you aware of gw2lfg.com?
While it is third party, it is an effective lfg tool. Groups are not completely organized for you, but I think that’s a very lazy and unrealistic request. Do you want hotjoin dungeons?

30 (Start of it) to 10 (what was left) = 20 minutes difference, you fell short (took longer) by 5 minutes

He said 10 minutes in. I assume that means he had 20 minutes left on the food, not 10.

It’s not the hardest dungeon and will probably return as a fractal.

Why do you say that? There haven’t been any new fractals added, correct?

Not yet but various Anet staff have said on the forums that they almost certainly will add old one-off dungeons as Fractals. It fits perfectly with the idea behind Fractals (reliving key moments from the past) and it lets them bring back popular dungeons without having the world crowded with all these different things going on.

I agree. It does make sense. I’m just questioning the “probably return” notion since we’ve seen zero real action on this path.

Only if the game actually attempts more than random matchmaking. 5 v 2 matches that load one team with the top three scorers from the previous match is silly. Afk players are a serious problem. Also, the lack of match selection makes playing with friends difficult.

My biggest issue is that all the money from the gem store doesn’t directly support Anet and GW2. It directly supports NCSoft, who uses those funds as they wish whether for GW2 or any of their other titles (Lineage, Wildstar, etc). It wasn’t until recently when NCSoft finally gave the go ahead to START plans for an expansion in 2014.

Is there a source for these statements?

Canach Solo Instance Reward Daily??

Yeah to support the other two correct answers, it seems to just be once. Once you have completed it, you can do it again the next day or 24 hours later, and you get nothing at all. No chest and no bonus. You do get to watch the dialog again though.

EDIT: And honestly, it was a gold for doing a 5 minute event, solo, that wasn’t remotely difficult. If it was a daily I would be there every day.

I believe I got the reward multiple times for doing it on separate days. I’ll have to do it again to verify.
