Did Anet get a dungeon team back?

Yikes. Anet doesn’t have a dungeon team? That seems…wrong.

Although, the lack of new dungeons/fractals makes sense now.

It’s disappointing though, because with some of the creative enemy types I’ve seen in S2, a new dungeon would be pretty awesome. Hopefully they manage to pull one together pretty soon.

so you stacked in a corner and didnt even think to ask why?

The benefits are apparent. Most bosses get stuck trying to get to the corner, buffs/boons are easily applied, and it’s a quick way to kill your enemies. I understand why it works.

It’s just that in my head, when I think of a dungeon run, standing in a corner mashing my skill keys doesn’t seem like much fun.

Edit: From what I understand (after reading the Dungeon FAQ, thanks to @maxinion) stacking doesn’t seem to work in Fractals. Maybe I’ll give those a go.

1. Name a boss that actually get stuck.

2. You don’t need to be in corner to share boon, everyone just need to be within close proximity of each other (within 300 range is ideal, most boon won’t apply beyond 600 range), also be able to Resurrect each other more quickly, instead of going to the other side of screen to reach someone downed.

3. Melee weapon has better damage per second (higher attack coefficient) compare to range weapons and nearly all of melee weapons hit multi-target.

4. When you use melee weapon, you automatically “STACK”. (some folks just can’t comprehend this part)

Corner stacking is a tactic that serves two additional purpose:

1. line of sight, mobs come to you when they can’t see you. cleave them down at the same time instead of taking care of first one then run to the second one and third one….you get the picture.

2. Close range attacks. For warrior, they can connect all their whirlwind attack hits while stacking near some kind of physical object/boundary. The famous FGS rush can only work while at corner/wall/somekind of obstruction. Guardian’s utility such as wall of reflection will be able to cover everyone that are closed together

In some occasion, you want to fight the mob/boss on a side of room so you don’t aggro additional mob.

Got it, buddy

No need to keep up the offensive, your team already won.

I cant say Im 100% sure but I would presume it also lessens the likely hood of groups getting downed. but then again crap groups will get downed eventually.

It is my experience that quite a few players have the reflexes of rock and couldnt walk out of red circles even if auto run is on much less dodge.

Im surprised you didnt say anything about demands to be be berserker.

awfully suspicious

Oh man. You do your research! Haha.

I played quite a bit a little over a year ago, and got my guardian up to 80 primarily just from PvE world content. The fractals had just launched, and the guild that I was in ran a few.

Like I mentioned above, I’m coming back to GW2 after a long hiatus, and spending most of my time running dungeons. I didn’t run into “stacking” when I first played (probably because I only ran around with guildies), which prompted this line of questioning.

I promise, this isn’t some elaborate scam haha.

But, I get it now. It’s all about time/reward. Not saying I like it, but I’ll get used to it.

Your problem is that your thinking of dungeons as epic experiences. They are on your first run. After run #4527 they no longer feel epic and are quite boring. Why would I intentionally increase the time required if I’m repeatedly doing something that I find boring?

I suppose that’s true. My only thought would be, “Why are you doing something that is boring you in the first place?”

But, I do see your point. Eventually you just want to get your rewards and get out. Makes sense.

Stacking does work in some fractals.

Well, hopefully it’s not as prevalent as “every single encounter”

I had no idea this was such a hot topic (although I suppose that’s what I get for not checking out the Forum Stickies before I posted)

Not trying to rock the boat, I just wasn’t sure if it was some new “exploit” (I know now that it’s not) that was just discovered. According to that FAQ, it’s been going on since GW1.

That’s fine, and to each his own. I’ll see how the Fractals are.

So, I’m just curious on what the consensus is with “stacking” during dungeon runs. I mainly run Ascalonian Catacombs, and in every group I run with, anytime we get into a boss fight the leader will yell, “Stack here!”.

Then, the entire group scrunches up into this corner, and then you mash your weapon keys until the boss is dead. From what I understand, it glitches some bosses to where they can’t use their full skill set (I could be wrong, and maybe there’s another underlying reason that I just don’t know). I see this specifically with Kohler, Colossus Rumblus, the ghost fight as you’re setting up the traps, and with the Spider.

Personally, I hate this mechanic. Getting into a corner and mashing my 4 key isn’t exactly a fun time. But I’m curious, do people enjoy this? As I haven’t ventured out into the other dungeons, is “stacking” just as prevalent there as in AC?

The game itself plays smoothly, no frame drops or major graphical glitches, but anytime I click on “quit to desktop”, log out, or anything like that the game completely freezes up. I can’t ctrl+alt+delete or alt+tab out of it either. Weirdly, the music continues playing, but everything else just freezes.

Is there a way I can repair the game files? Or do I have to completely reinstall?

Is Zhaitan's return viable lore-wise?

That way just makes it seem like we didn’t matter, that Trahearne would have defeated Zhaitan without our help. Obviously, that’s just my opinion, so take it or leave it.

However the Commander of the Pact did matter and Trahearne wouldnt have defeated Zhaitan without our help. The very fact the Pact forms in the first place is because of the player character.

Its easy to overlook the importance of the Player Character in the story. Perhaps the problem was that Trahearne tended to be on the lips of alot of the NPCs. However, though Trahearne was very important to the story, like the player in Nightfall, it was the player character who actually made things happen and won the day.

Exactly. We were important, but lore-wise, we aren’t mentioned. It’s a tough road to tread when writing a story, especially for an MMO, so it’s understandable why they do it.

Anyway, I’ve realized that I’ve totally thrown us off topic here, and I apologize haha.

Is Zhaitan's return viable lore-wise?

in Lore

Posted by: Bloody Zac.8960

Bloody Zac.8960

It works for Elder Scrolls because it’s a single player game and because most of the games are separated by great time or distance. So by the time Skyrim rolls around, the Oblivion Crisis is practically a myth.

GW2 is an MMO and Zhaitan was just defeated. Everyone’s clamouring for them to have reactions in the world, but you want the NPCs to be going, “Good thing the MYSTERIOUS HERO saved us by defeating Zhaitan!”, “Did you hear who’s leading the Pact? That MYSTERIOUS HERO! He or she must be awesome!”, “That MYSTERIOUS HERO is a credit to whatever race and gender happens to apply! I don’t know anything about the MYSTERIOUS HERO, because why would I? He or she is only leading the Pact!”

And Spirits forbid they write a novel or short story taking place after Zhaitan’s death. Wouldn’t that be wonderful.

“Can’t we ask for help from the Pact’s leader?”
“No. They’re a mysterious figure with no name, race, gender, or birthplace.”
“Oh, a former member of the Whispers?”
“Maybe. Or the Priory or Vigil. It’s all very mysterious for no adequately explained reason at all.”

I don’t think it should be the “Mysterious Hero”. That is way too impersonal, and you’re right, it doesn’t fit.

But the “Commander” which is pretty much what we’re all called anyway, would work just as well.
And, about Skyrim, you’re correct. However, Fallout: New Vegas talks about the Lone Wanderer, and that’s separated by a few years. Of course, that’s a nuclear apocalypse, so that’s different than a fantasy setting.

Since this is an MMO, we aren’t going to get a super personalized story, and most MMO writers do add NPC’s like Trahearne and Kormir simply because lore-wise, that’s the easiest. They just stick whatever the PC did to those NPC’s.

That way just makes it seem like we didn’t matter, that Trahearne would have defeated Zhaitan without our help. Obviously, that’s just my opinion, so take it or leave it.

The player won’t ever become the leader of the Pact. You can pretty much guarantee it. For the same reason we didn’t replace Abaddon in GW1. A nameless hero (how it’ll be told in the overarching non-personal lore of the game) cannot take a lead role.

I understand that, but I hate it.

I would much rather they went the Bethesda/Fallout/Elder Scrolls route.

Give the PC/Hero a generic name, i.e. “The Lone Wanderer” or “Dragonborn”, etc.

Well, I’m on the opposite side. I hated becoming the second in command, I would have preferred to be just the leader of some squad, not the second most important person.

I absolutely agree with you. This should be our story, and no one else’s.

What I was trying to say was that if they went with the “heroic” name, there wouldn’t be a need for an NPC stand-in. Instead of the Lore saying, “Trahearne killed Zhaitan” it could say, “The Hero of Shaemoor killed Zhaitain” (obviously, it would be something other than “Hero of Shaemoor”)

It’s the same way Bethesda handles lore. “The Dragonborn saved Skyrim” or “The Lone Wanderer defeated the Enclave” rather than, “Three-Dog killed the Enclave”.

If that makes sense.

I just have this picture of Trahearne, not being able to get over his Wyld Hunt being over, goes deeper into Orr. You, as his second-in-command, follow him.

At the end, Trahearne is trying to re-(re?)animate Zhaitan, and you have to put him down.

Obviously, probably not going to happen, but it’d feel good.

How to Fix zerging in WvWvW

in WvW

Posted by: Bloody Zac.8960

Bloody Zac.8960

Regardless of whether zerging is fun or not, it is game breaking to an extent. The system culls and lags in these situations. Clearly GW2 was never designed to handle this type of play.

To reduce zerg game play ANet needs to do a few things:

1. Reduce bag drops for running in a zerg. If a player is damaged and killed by more than a dozen players in some fixed time period nobody gets a bag. Currently zerging is one of the most profitable forms of WvW play.

2. Give WvW points based on how long a position was held rather than when the clock resets. Currently GW2 rewards offense far more than defense.

3. Do not allow damage AoE to stack. IMO there is nothing wrong with AoE itself but having 20+ players mindlessly spam AoEs causes all sorts of issues for the game engine. Would also mostly remove choke points in the game which are often stopped not by skill but by one team getting bored.

Just my opinion.

Pact Helicopter Attacking Players

Super strange bug here.

I was farming the tunnel in the Cursed Shore, when I noticed a downed player towards the entrance of the tunnel by the Shelter’s Gate waypoint.

I start reviving him, and I notice that I’m getting bombarded, taking damage from some explosives and at first I don’t pay any mind. But then I realize…there’s not an event happening. Heck, there aren’t any Risen around either.

I look up, and the Pact Helicopter is shooting rockets at the downed player, and subsequently me. I quit reviving him, and the Pact Helicopter just continues to shoot him, non-stop. Is this working as intended? Seems a little mean if it is. What’s strange is that the helicopter focused just on one person. I was only hurt when I was in the blast zone.

TL;DR = The Pact Helicopter at Shelter’s Gate (Fort Aspenwood) on the Cursed Shore is attacking players.

Picture: It was tough getting a good picture of it, but I did manage to snag one of the helicopter shooting the player.

The Future of the Personal Story

Bloody Zac.8960

What I’d want to see in the story is more choices. No, not those little “what mission do you want to do” choices that really have next to no effect on the plot. I mean big choices.

Let’s say that after Zhiatan’s death, the Pact runs into some problems. Trahearne disappears while exploring Orr, and is presumed dead. As his second in command, you have several options:
-Take over leadership of the Pact, strengthen its organization, deal with underlings, and fight against internal and external threats
-Lead the search for Trahearne, attempt to find and rescue him
-Leave the squabbling factions of the Pact to continue your journey alone

BIG choices like these should not only have a huge effect on the storyline, but effect other parts of the game. Take over leadership of the Pact? You get Trahearne’s office and the ability to redecorate it, along with new dialogue and event options from Pact npcs. Or maybe you left the Pact, and they got a new leader—one that doesn’t particularly like you.

Agreed. I’d love it if during “Phase 2” of the personal story, it takes us back into the character creation screen, maybe has us select a few more things in our past, or what we’ve done since we (SPOILER) killed Zhaitan.

In my opinion, the choices in the PS lost their edge when it was just Trahearne staring at me telling me I have to do one thing or the other. The 1-20 levels of the Personal Story were the strongest, and then the further along you went, the weaker it got.

Is the Mystic Forge worth it? I understand that it is needed in order to craft Legendaries, but is it worth the hassle with anything else? At the present, I am trying to make money, and I’ve seen the MF at LA, and heard random people talking about it in the Cursed Shore, so I decided to give it a go. I threw in 4 rares (on the TP, each one went for almost a gold) and the weapon that came out…was worth 23 silver.

Now, I understand that everything with the Mystic Forge is a chance, so I tried it 3 more times. Every time, I was given a weapon that was worth less than the four I had put in. When I put in 4 greens though, I did get a nice rare, but that’s about it.
It seems like a cool concept, but I don’t want to waste my time with it if it’s just going to cost me items and potential gold.

So, what do you guys think? Does the Mystic Forge have a place outside of Legendaries? Is my RNG just really bad? Is Zommoros just a big jerk?

Me and my guildmates actually had a great convo about what Anet could do if they extended the level cap: Why not bring back secondary professions?

If I’m correct, I believe a recent SWTOR update allowed you to “dip in” to other classes. Correct me if I’m wrong, but you could have a lightsaber-wielding Jedi with a blaster attached to his hip.

Instead of giving us just another 10 trait points, why not let us pick a secondary profession? It would have to be reworked (meaning, you can’t just throw up the ele trait pool if that’s the secondary you pick, because 10 points won’t mean jack) but I think it’d be pretty cool.

As an example, I’m a guardian, and I choose Ele as my secondary. Maybe now, my Sanctuary utility now burns enemies if they touch it.

Just an idea, hate it or like it.

Whenever I get to The Cursed Shore, The Straits of Devastation, The Karka Island (forgot what the name is) etc., I always just kind of run around a bit, kill a few things, and then I leave because nothing is happening.

There are no hearts, which I understand. The zones are build upon dynamic events, and when it was explained to me, it sounded epic. A bunch of players working together defeating an army of Risen just sounds great.

Except, when I get there, I see a bunch of Risen and maybe two other people. We kill things until we stumble upon a DE, and then the Risen Priest of Balthazar kills us.

It could just be my server (Fort Aspenwood) or maybe I was just too late to the party.

I love the game, and I love dungeons and fractals, but I was looking forward to doing the end-game zones. Should I transfer to another server, or just write it off as one of those things you organize with a guild?

I actually love this idea.

Although, I feel like there shouldn’t be a “button” that unleashes Godzilla. I think that instead the game should use it whenever there is a need. For example, say Bob’s server has 150,000 points, compared Billy’s server (who is in second place) who has 50,000 points.

The game would then see that there is some kind of imbalance, and then a DE would spawn that would give the other servers a fighting chance. That could be a Quaggan uprising, Risen attacking, or a giant, scary, violent Rabbit attacking everything in sight.

The only issue is that these events can’t be too difficult, and they can’t happen too often. Otherwise, you’d see a lot of hate coming from the winning side.

The ideal WvW is for all three servers to be in a match that is equally fair and challenging, and that’s difficult to achieve. I’m not sure if this idea would fix that, but I’m all for trying to defend Stonemist from a murderous Rabbit.

The Extended Experience would consist of an iphone/ipad (and maybe android?) app where: “Players will have the ability to check their friends lists, follow their friends on the map, message their friends, and move around the world on their characters.”

Pretty cool, right? My only question is this: Is this still happening? I’d love to see an app that would let me communicate with my guild/friends list while I’m on the go. I’d like to be able to see my character, look at skills/traits, weapons, armor, and buy/sell on the trading post.

Fingers crossed that this is still on Anet’s radar, but what do you guys think? Do you want one? And if you do, what other features would you like to see?
