I lost an entire month worth of progress because of laurels. I bought two ascended items with the same name because I didn´t know that you can´t equip the same ascended item twice. Cost me 40 laurels. Contacted support to undo this mistake, but haven´t gotten an answer in days.
Stuff like this is one of the reasons why I´m taking a long break from GW2 again to play the other MMO that just released an expansion.
but I feel like I´m actually losing gold by doing anything other than ML.
And you’re right. The point is: do you play a game to gain in-game gold or for fun? I remember that old times when all games were just about having fun…
The two shouldn´t be mutually exclusive.
All I´m saying is make other areas more rewarding so that the game feels less grindy.
There’s wood and ore all over the place. Doing the Astralaria collections (I wouldn’t recommend it), I’ve had to scour the map for various things. All legendary collections work this way. Make a precursor.
The game doesn’t have to be one big gold grind. What are you buying with all that gold? If you’re acquiring it to acquire it, go do something else.
I´m currently gear grinding to get full ascended gear so that I can experience end game content.
Then I´m saving up for future legendaries and legendary armor.
give us a reason to come back to the zones. As far as PVE content all I do is AB multiloot and I´m sick of it. I want to explore Tyria, but I feel like I´m actually losing gold by doing anything other than ML. Find a way to make other zones relevant again.
If they nerf the multiloot I´ll be leaving the game. At least in the ML there is communication and you fight things. Only other thing worth doing in the game is silverwastes or farming materials. I´d rather scratch out my eyes than do either of these two activites everydays for hours.
Having played GW2 first and WoW afterwards I can safely say WoW feels completely outdated at this point. I never played WoW in the Vanilla days so I don´t have any nostalgia glasses on. The “combat” in WoW puts me to sleep and I can´t get immersed into the world because the graphics look so old.
Raids should be hard, entirely skill based, but accessable to everyone. Nobody likes gear grind.
So raids should be what they are now. Kind of hard, entirely skill based and acessable to everyone. GW2 is the first game that have raids with 0 gear grind.
good luck finding a raid group with exotic gear or as a thief.

Killing off dungeons was a huge mistake. I´m really missing small group instanced content so I rarely play the game anymore and will likely move on to WoW Legion because of this. Raids don´t count because they cater to the 0.5% of the community.
I´ve been gone for over 6 months. What is the current best way to earn gold?

GW2 is basically kitten stock simulator now.
haven´t logged in for months now. Before HoT I played the game religiously.
yep, that´s the no1 reason why I left the game.
Not grinding the Silverwastes for hours everyday for months just to be able to raid. Too many other games to play.
So much for no required gear grind.
All of these items are easily attainable.
All you need is a credit card to convert gems to gold.
You´re not supposed to farm things in the game game. You´re supposed to buy them with real money. That´s the entire design philosophy of GW2.
People on here looked at me funny when I said WoW is a lot less grindy than GW2.
In GW2 if I had four hours of playtime I´d spend three and a half hours in the Silverwastes running from chest to chest because everything else in the game is completely unrewarding.
In WoW you get geared by playing the game which I don´t consider grinding.

Was it cheaper in price? If you’re paying a sub every single month it’s part of the entire business plan. You can’t isolate the price of the expansion if you’re ignoring the sub. Well you can, but you’d be comparing apples to oranges. FF XIV players pay $15 a month for the priviledge of logging in. So yeah, their expansion can be cheaper.
So why are you ignoring gem sales?
The $15 a month also gets them major content updates every 3-4 months, that includes new areas with new stories, new dungeons, new raids, new game features, new pvp game types and areas, even new classes.
P.S discussion on the same topic on Reddit as well. https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3wk61u/mmorpgcom_heart_of_thorns_best_expansion_2015/
No one has to buy gems though. It’s an option. If you have a million people playign the game playing 15 bucks a month that’s 15 million a month, far more than the GW 2 gem store makes.
I wouldn´t be so sure about that. I´m guessing many people have paid more than they would pay for a sub based game. The entire game is designed to extract as much real life cash from you as possible.
Any cool looking item or ascended armor pretty much requires you to grind hundreds of hours in the Silverwastes like a Chinese gold famer. Either that or buy gems, convert them to gold and get the things you want immediately without any grinding. It´s very tempting.
In the end, buying a sub based MMO would probably be cheaper for the majority of players.
PVE endgame has always been Silverwastes Chest farming.
The second one, tought you should work your dyes there, its too much black.
really don´t get this complaint.
It´s a thief. He´s supposed to be low key and dark to blend in with the shadows
Oh so much the number one. The second is very standard, not special at all. I would like to know what armor pieces the first one got
magitech armor

WoW might be a sub based game, but atleast you get geared by playing the game.
In GW2 you get geared by buying gems with real money and converting them to gold.
In 1000hours of playtime I haven´t had a single worthwhile drop.
If you really mean you cant get gold very easy without a big value item drop or buy gems, then you dont know how to play the game right. Or you are like most on the forums and just cry for no reason
How do I get an easy 1000g to get a full ascended set by just playing the game and not grinding?
It is really hard not to make 1 gold per hour in your 1000 hour of play time.
I don’t think getting 1000 gold is the problem. The problem is beside ascended armor, you probably also want pretty skin, extra character slot, bank slot, convenient stuff, and perks.
If you have 1000 hour of play time, you most likely repeated doing something over and over again.
I said it before, most of my money is made from selling legendary. In fact I probably sold like 30 legendary. That is like 25k gold. Even though that is still grinding, but I can play all the content in the game beside just doing “maize balm farm”, “sw farm” etc.
My guess is people don’t do it because they don’t enjoy all the content in the game. For example map completion. Because to make a legendary, you need to do all the content. That being said, I’m sure crafting legendary to sell is much more fun than doing sw.
You sold 30 legendaries? Holy crap.
I have a feeling our definition of grinding and just playing the game casually differs greatly.

For all the complainers, ask yourself “How bad do I want it?”
Any goal in life is really that simple.
I think the better question to ask yourself is "is getting one skin worth sacrificing my free time to do boring, unfun and tedious grinding for 4+ hours every night for months on end when I could be having actual fun playing Fallout4, MGS:V, Tomb Raider, FIFA, etc… instead.
For some people it is worth it but better question is: If it’s not worth it, what are those people still doing in GW2 and why haven’t they moved on to more fun things? Sounds to me like people have convinced themselves of something that they might not believe is true.
It´s not an all or nothing thing. I´m sure since the release of HoT many people just log in once a day for the log in rewards and then log off to play other games. As of right now there is nothing fun and rewarding to do in the game.

Especially now with the next Steam Sale around the corner I´d rather play new games than spend my nights chest farming, TP flipping and chopping wood in GW2. Because let´s face it that´s all there is left to do. Doing anything else in the game is extremely unrewarding.

I just want to reiterate this. I have played swtor and Wildstar and the grind in GW2 is worse than both those games.
You’re right the ascended grind is worse.
But here is the thing. Once you have ascended you’re done forever.
In SW:TOR for example, every time they release a raid or a expac they increase the gear tier, rendering the previous tier of gear junk, and requiring everyone to grind the new tier.
In guild wars 2 I can grind ascended, quit the game for a year, and come back and ascended will still be the best gear.
I disagree with the last two points you make. Ascended armor is best in slot now, but that´ll change once legendary armor gets introduced. In a year or so you´ll be at a disadvantage in raids if you only have ascended armor and not legendary armor because of the ability to switch stats for every raid boss. Ascended armor wont´be the best in slot anymore.
Also If I quit now and take a long break two things will happen:
1. I will fall behind when it comes to raiding. I´ll be a raid noob and it´ll be hard to find a group that wants to put up with a noob that wastes everyones time because he lacks experience. There is a lot more pressure to perform well.
2. Eventually I will want a legendary. It takes roughly 3000g+ to craft one of the new legendaries. If I don´t log in every single day and grind gold I have almost no chance to ever get a legendary because it´s mainly just a boring and massive gold sink with no skill involved (unless you are aiming for legendary armor). Raiding to get legendary armor precursors is the fun and easy part, but grinding thousands of gold is the hard and unfun part. If you don´t log in and grind gold every single day your chance of ever getting a legendary are slim to zero. In other words you fall behind if you don´t grind every single day. There might be players who are content waiting for 3+ years to craft finally craft a legendary, but those players are the exception.

This game can be quite expensive.
45€ for the core game and another 80€ to craft ascended gear to get raid access. Then if you want cool looking skins you either need to spend a lot more cash or grind for hundreds of hours to farm enough gold.

This has happened to six times out of the last ten times I tried.
It´s infuriating because it always happens right before the final boss is down.
The most skilled players that do the hardest content in the game are always broke while the people that run from chest to chest and hit “F” for hours everyday have the best in slot gear and the coolest looking chars.
It´s nuts.
Do you consider yourself one of the most skilled players? I certainly don’t. But all the skilled players that I know are richer than me.
…and they would be a lot richer if they spent all their time chest farming instead of doing content.
umm back then when dungeon tours were thing, guess how many skilled players ran dungeons everyday to accumulate enough gold to make 5~all legendaries plus all the ascended armors/weapons from fractal? Those people who are completing the raid or core members of notable raid guild are the same people that ran dungeons and fractals. Majority of the skilled players in this game have already established a connection through speed running dungeons, and now they have moved onto raid. If you were part of a speed running guild, you would not have much trouble getting ascended armors/weapons since you were invited to run fractals and dungeons daily.
Of course they have ascended gear if they run dungeons and fractals everyday for three years. That´s not the point.
The point is that in this game everything is about gold and by far the best way to earn gold is by not playing the game. Someone who only farms the Silvewastes/does TP flipping/ buys gems with cash and converts them to gold will always earn a lot more gold than someone who only does high lvl fractals, PVP/WvW and raids. That is provided both players put in the same amount of hours.

It has been a long time, but I don’t remember it ever being as hard. And you are comparing the 1st wing of the GW2 raid to the 6th wing of vanilla wow.
And yes farming equipment was very grindy but at least it wasn’t hard.
and whats so hard about farming gear in GW2? you don’t even need to kill a 40 man boss for it to even be allowed to do other content . You can literally chop trees and mine nodes your way to BiS stats in GW2.
I
Don’t
Understand.
At
ALLThe first couple bosses in Molten Core still required a significant amount of time to learn in comparison to anything spirit vale.
That´s the entire problem with the game.
I´d personally rather get my ascended gear by beating challenging content with other people than to spend night after night chopping wood for months on end just to save up enough gold for ascended gear.

of course legendary is objectively the best in slot. It´s not even debatable.
Legendaries have the ability to switch stats on the fly which make them objectively better than ascended items. They also tend to be the best looking items in a game that is all about cosmetics (at least it used to before the ascended gear treadmill was introduced for raids)
In six months to a year legendary armor will be required for raids so that you can change stats on the fly for every raid boss. Ascended gear will become the new exotics and people will exclude you from raiding if you only have ascended gear as it is the case now with exotics and raiding.
(edited by ChrizZcE.5981)
that sounds almost as fun as chest farming in the silverwastes
Ascended was released almost at the same time gw2 was launched so technically you had almost 3 years to get it, trinkets barely cost a gold and only requires commendations or relics, or fotm dailies. Weapons cost abit but in 3 years you should probably be able to save The gold for 1 weapon at least. Armor tbh is not even needed since it’s like 2.5% difference. Anet did stick to their words of no grinding needed to enjoy content, ascended has always been available it is just that YOU have nvr found any reason to get it till now that’s why your last minute effort to get it is so hard. Anet did not release a new BIS tier, they just released content which made a 3 year old BIS tier recommended. If after all this you still don’t want to get it just do it in exotics.
not everyone bought the game at launch.
It´s not worth full price.
I´d say it´s worth about $15-20
yep, having to grind the Silverwastes for 100+ hours just to save up enough gold for ascended gear and then having to wait 3+ months to get enough laurels for ascended trinkets sure sounds casual friendly.
And that´s just to gear one char.
100+ hours in the silverwastes for ascended? Farming materials gives around 15g/ hour. Salvaging stuff on the TP gives around 80g/ hour, around 200 if you buy order everything. That 5 min crafting daily gives around 12-14 gold. Farming fractals gives 10-15g an hour.
Also, let’s not forget that you can get ascended drops for every single game mode in the game. This is why the game seems hard in terms of gearing. Because people have no ideea how easy getting gold is. How much time have you spent researching how to get gold in GW2? Around 2 vids on youtube right? Serves you right, go back to your 100 hours in SW, that’s why casuals are going to complain and smart ones are gonna keep enjoying the game
200g/hour?
I´ll have whatever you´re smoking.
I´d have no problem with raids if it wasn´t for the massive ascended gear grind that new players are facing and having to play a specific class/build.
Ascended gear is by far the worst thing to ever happen to GW2.
Why keeping on saying this when plenty of people have posted vids where they actually beat the first raid in full exo or the ones in ascended finish it with 2 min left on timer (2 min out of 8 left = 25% of “over-dps” and asc is less than 25 % dps increase !)?
The thing is you beat the first boss and get a chance at finding ascended stuff… so the more you beat the raid the more ascended stuff you have.
That´s nice, but what I´m saying is even if you are the most skilled GW2 player in the world you won´t even be able to access the raid if you don´t have ascended gear and play the right class/build.
I dare you to find skilled PUG raid group that accepts a thief with no ascended gear. First thing people ask you when you join is to ping your gear. If you don´t have ascended gear you get kicked.

sorry buddy, raiding is only for the rich.
This game has a massive gear grind for ascended armor and that´s why I´m leaving.
Not paying $80 just so that I can convert gems to gold and buy ascended armor. Not doing chest farming for 100+ hours either just to get geared for a raid.
(edited by ChrizZcE.5981)
Ironically the best and most skilled players in this game are broke and don´t have ascended armor because all they do is play pvp and WvW.
Pre hot you had options to get anything you wanted, grind some farm some pay some to lesson mat grind. Now they launch an expac and its all change and there is one way to get the new best in slot gear.Me and a lot of players have dorped a kitten tone of money into this game,me personally over £3000 that uk pounds not euro or dollars. And now they have the frigin cheek to tell me im not good enough.Lets see all the ftp and raid eleet players make up the shortfall in income this game will suffer buy abandoning there core players who funded this game since launch.
I´m really curious, what did you spend 3000 pounds on in game?
I
Funny that because I’ve been running around on my toon for 2,300 hours, and I only have one (1) ascended weapon, no ascended armour, no ascended trinkets or anything else ascended.
That’s since the head start a couple of days before August 28, 2012
umm…okay? Is that something to be proud of?
Just because you’re not working for something doesn’t mean they’re hard to get. It just mean that you didn’t work for it.
Raids aren’t designed for people who’re satisfied with the normal standards. Raids are for those who want to face the challenges. And those are the people who actually work to improve themselves, and their gears.
“umm…okay? Is that something to be proud of? " Dunno, yes no, not particularly/maybe.
“Just because you’re not working for something doesn’t mean they’re hard to get. It just mean that you didn’t work for it. " Still trying to decode that one.
“Raids aren’t designed for people who’re satisfied with the normal standards” No I think we should all be able to experience raids whatever our abilities, as I have said before, there should be difficulty levels and we all paid full price for the game, we didn’t pay full price to be excluded from part of it.
“Raids are for those who want to face the challenges” I think we all like a challenge, isn’t that why we’re here.
I agree that we all payed the same price.
But honestly, how do you expect arenanet to develope challenging content for players who have not even tried to prepare for said content in 3 years?
What about the months of pre-HoT news and previews did not sufficiently prepare you to get ready, especially on a 3 year old account?
Ideally though, yes more events like the Queens gauntletwould be nice. Pure solo challenging content which was fun.
Not everyone has been playing the game since launch.
There are lots of new players that are locked out of raids because they don´t have fully ascended gear.
Congrats! The 1st time in the GW Franchise

I wished I could do the raid, but Anet absolutely shafted new players. I refuse to farm everyday for months just to be able to craft ascended gear. Not opening my wallet either.
Its good the way it is, it’s not even a “grind” I made my ascended set in like 1 month just playing normally and having fun.
I´m curious how you managed to do that?
Ascended set including leveling crafting is like 800- 900g now.
That means you would have to atleast make 30g every single day for an entire month. Getting 30g a day takes me roughly four to five hours of Silverwastes farming including doing the event to buy keys.

What is this Heart of Thrones you speak of?
And people would stop playing the game within a month due to lack of things to do.
If that were true everyone would´ve stopped playing vanilla GW2 two weeks after launch after they hit max lvl.
No. There was still many things to do. What you’re suggesting is to make all of those much more obtainable at a quicker rate allowing players to subsequently finish all available content at a quicker rate.
where do I suggest to make things obtainable at a quicker rate?
