GW2.exe keeps running after closing game

in Account & Technical Support

Crixler.2857

No, that’s not it. I always ensure I’m patched 100%. The client does not restart itself, it stays running in the background after the game closes, for about 5 minutes. My -image and -repair shortcuts don’t suffer from this, for what it’s worth, it only happens when the actual game is launched.
And it’s been happening for a lot longer than the streaming client has been around, anyway.

So this has actually been happening for me for a few months, but I haven’t bothered posting about it here yet. But with all the patches right now, it’s a little more inconvenient than usual.

Every time I close the game, GW2.exe continues to run for about 5 or 10 minutes or so. Trying to close it in task manager does nothing. All I can do is wait. Trying to load the game back up again while this is happening does not work, as an instance is already running.

I’ve tried using -repair, but that doesn’t help.

Guild democracy system (elections)

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Crixler.2857

Crixler.2857

I founded a guild once, with the goal of one day making it democratic. But first we had a predemocratic period. The guild was did very well, for the most part. Then we finally went democratic. We had an elected parliament and a constitution. But few people ever voted. We had raffles for voters, and gave away lots of gold, and people still didn’t bother to vote. And once people did end up in the parliament, they themselves rarely did much.
Nothing got done, and the guild stagnated. People started leaving, or stopped repping.
The few parliament members left decided to dump the constitution and go back to a more traditional guild structure, but the damage was done, and the guild is currently essentially dead.

Moral of the story: Democratic guilds may sound like a good idea, but the average player is too apathetic for it to actually work.

Javelins? Meh … not really interested in yet another single target ranged weapon.

Doesn’t necessarily have to be exclusively ranged. Some professions could use it ranged, some could use it melee, much like axe, staff, hammer, greatsword. If warrior were to get it, it would most definitely be melee, but guardian would likely get a ranged version, due to their Paragon influences. Ranger could go either way thematically, I think. I’m not sure that spears would fit any other profession very well, though.
But I really want them.

Can we keep the original GW2 Main Menu theme?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Crixler.2857

Crixler.2857

It’s easy. Open up your documents folder\Guild Wars 2, and create a new folder called “Music”. You can create an m3u playlist titled MainMenu.m3u containing the original menu music and put it in there.

You can find more complete information here:
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Customized_soundtrack

Personally, I’ve got it set to play the original menu playlist, followed by the music that played on the original GW1 Prophecies main menu, with a few other tracks mixed in here and there as well. You can even make the game play the Maklain the Minstrel version of the main theme. That’s what I’ve got as the final track in my playlist.

New Pets in Heart Of Thorns?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Crixler.2857

Crixler.2857

One of my best experiences in GW2 was hunting down all the different pets. But I had them all within a month or so, and my hunt came to an end. When the Lost Shores added the reef drake, I was very excited, and I tamed one right away. Then Flame and Frost came, with no new pets. And we still haven’t gotten any since, not even llamas in Dry Top, or arid devourers.

The last pet I tamed, besides the reef drake, was the hawk. Only found in Ebbing Heart Run, a level 60 area. I was still level 30 at the time, and getting to that hawk was a very difficult task. But after numerous attempts, I made it.
I want more pets taming experiences like that. Most pets in GW2 or fairly easy to tame, I want pets that we have to put some effort into. GW1’s rainbow phoenix is a little over the top in its aquisition for my tastes, but the regular phoenix is a great example. Add a new pet at the end of the HoT personal story. Add a new pet that can only be found late in a raid. Jumping puzzles, too. Put pets in areas you can only access with high level gliding. Make it so we can’t blow through all the new pets within a month.

I think it’s very possible that “old as the Shiverpeaks” might not be literal.
It could also perhaps be that Glint’s 3000 years of memories may only be counting her memories after she was purified, allowing her to be much older. That might be a stretch, though.

Just had a thought and looked at the Realm of Torment map

Both it and the trailer design has a diamond within a double-circle centering the designs.

It was revealed some time ago that alchemy circle-like designs are used for maps of the Mists. This may be a map of Tyria from the viewpoint of the Mists (or a map of Tyria within the Mists), perhaps.

I was getting a bit tired of people comparing the RoT map and the Eternal Alchemy vision (I’ve seen people go as far as saying they’re identical…), but this actually sounds really good. I can definitely go for it being an Alchemical map of Tyria.

My Greatest Fear Plotline

Crixler.2857

Yeah, this arc has always been a bit goofy since you can only take one path, but all 3 outcomes show up in the final mission. I think some of the NPC dialog is trying to fill in the holes.

I’m fairly certain this is the case with the entire personal story. Every branch of it happens, even if your character doesn’t participate in them. Some other nameless character does it instead.

It saddens me greatly that story was removed, but it makes me happy to see that I’m not the only one passionate about this. Hopeful, ANet will see that the story MATTERS to us players, and then do the right thing and revert all the changes.

I’d rather they sit down with the chapters, two pots of coffee, and figure out how to smooth it out even if it means cutting things or having to go beg VAs to get back in the studio to shoot more content and adding things.

I don’t understand why people were so attached to the Fear storylines. They weren’t all that impressive. Only one of them had any real value to the story as a legitimate threat. The other two felt entirely tacked on and super rushed.

Apatia swims around and gets captured. Or she goes for the caravan, gets captured, and you do all the work to accomplish the mission without her anyways. She literally accomplished the fewest things in the story arc she appears in of anyone in the entire game. Faren is more useful and memorable than Apatia.

Tonn’s story just had no closure. It’s a buddy cop drama where you have to sit through a bunch of dad jokes, put together a special explosive to accomplish the same effect as a single trebuchet attack on Claw Island, and then he just vanishes. Dead, apparently. From the explosion? From the Krait? Did the undead get him? Who knows? He’s just dead now. How is that heartbreaking? It’s just confusing.

If they actually want to rework the fear storylines and make them relevant, then by all means, but I’m certainly not torn up about losing either of those two.

This is interesting, because I’ve seen you ingame before, and you were in the ANet guild.

I think this may be the first time I’ve actually been upset with a change to this game. The loss of keyfarming is disappointing, but I can shrug it off. I’m not upset with anything else about this feature patch. It may not be as big as the last one, but it’s enough for me.
But this? This is abhorrent. I’m glad I’ve already done the personal story three times and already experienced all three different fears, but I want to experience that again on my other characters, and I want everyone who hasn’t done them yet to do it as well.

This is like how Fox handled Firefly. Bad ANet. No.

I mostly agree with this topic. I can’t stand the over-the-top weapons, such as the fused skins. But I also think going too realistic can be a bit boring.
My favorite weapon skin in the entire game is probably Khrysaor. Perhaps it’s not the most realistic thing in the world, but it’s definitely far from stupidly stupid, too. I’d like to see more weapons like it.
I also really like Bonetti’s rapier. The Ebon Vanguard skins are nice, but the coloration on them can be a bit hard to work with at times.

I think Fire Emblem tends to have a pretty good balance between realism and fantasy when it comes to weapons and armor, and I would love to see some skins with that sort of feel to them.

You are right, hell, appearently we have stars being born in accordance to Elder Dragon risings. Which again goes to show that the fluctuation of magical forces can do weird things in the universe of Tyria seemingly completely unrelated. Who is to say that no magical events effected anything we are debating and blaming on bad writing? It is the point of “magic” to be mystical and unknowable in its potential, even so dragon energies/chaos magic.

Just had an interesting thought regarding the stars thing.
Maybe it’s not the dragons waking that triggers a star to be born, and instead is the other way around. Those stars are going to be quite distant, and by the time Tyrians see them being born, it will have actually been born long before. But maybe the newborn starlight finally reaching Tyria triggers the dragons somehow. If that is the case, however, there probably wouldn’t be a new star for Mordremoth, because he was awoken artificially.
Maybe there’s a connection of some sort between the stars and ley lines?…

All of that is, of course, assuming the information regarding stars being born is from a Tyrian point of view, rather than a universal one.

This is a question that I have also pondered. I don’t really have any good ideas for a subtitle, though.

On a somewhat related note, I’ve also often wondered why they chose to make the “2” dragon symbol be red instead of a more Zhaitan-ish color and design (obviously still keeping the 2 shape). The current red logo looks more like Primordus, both in color and design, which isn’t really all that relevant currently. They could have had a different dragon themed logo for different expansions (or however they end up releasing other dragons in the end).

Would be the perfect compliment to my shark, instead of the silly jellies or ugly armorfish.
As for an acceptable choice or already ingame creatures I could agree to the deepsea scorpions, they are pretty cool.

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Tengu this confirms that they aren’t from maguuma but it also shows they are not only from Cantha – so if Tengu would become a major part of the story wouldn’t it effectively be when we head to the far shiverpeeks as this would mean they have an opportunity to reclaim some of their lost lands – but it also doesn’t mean that they didn’t eventually have a perch in the maguuma jungle either – so who knows

Actually, that page confirms nothing of the sort. In fact, it explicitly tells you that there were Tengu in the Tarnished Coast, which is part of the Maguuma.

I also seem to remember something about some Quetzal still hiding out deeper into the Maguuma than we can currently visit, but I could be mistaken with this bit.

Rata Sum and the Grove lacking unique music

in Audio

Posted by: Crixler.2857

Crixler.2857

I agree that Metrica and The Grove seem to lack their own distinctive themes, and that should be remedied. However, the tracks you linked would not be good choices at all. The first one is the Asura racial theme. Each of the races has their own racial theme, distinct from their city themes, that plays during character creation. Maybe it’d be good to hear those put into the rest of the game in certain spots, but making it double as their city theme would be just as inconsistent as it is now.

And the second track you listed is not actually titled The Grove. That’s a fan title from before the real title was known. That track is called The Tengu Wall, and it shows in the way it sounds. I personally suspect it’ll be used as the Tengu racial theme (or possibly city theme – but not both) whenever they become playable. It currently doesn’t ever play ingame, but that makes sense, because there’s currently virtually nothing Tengu related ingame.

Guys, there’s a big difference between in game lore and what actually happened. He never denied that it was the Canthan district in the real word past, he just said that it’s not part of official lore because it was changed before release.

Except there are still several references ingame to it having once been the Canthan District (in addition to the Arts District). So either there’s a retcon happening only just now (it did not happen prior to release), or there’s some misinformation coming from this dev.

That said, there are some screenshots on Reddit of what’s hiding beneath the tent, and it’s definitely not Canthan anymore.

It’s basically a large round structure using the same typical Neo-Krytan architecture that can be seen in the majority of DR. It’s almost definitely the location of the new Royal Terrace, which is basically just adding LA functionality to DR. Which I find extremely disappointing. We’ve got LA for all those things. And it means the Canthans won’t be getting their district rebuilt. I don’t get disappointed with ANet very often (green “rainbow” jellyfish, Sky Pirates patch, that’s about it), but this is a big let down.

In fact, there are several tracks ingame that aren’t on the OST. And I’m not talking about GW1 tracks, there are a lot of new ones for GW2 that have not been released.

That said, many tracks don’t play in the appropriate locations/events.
For instance, “The Seraph” – I’ve heard it a few times ingame, but never in any context that actually relates to the Seraph.
And “Scales of Issormir”… does not play when you fight Issormir.
Why does “Lornar’s Pass” play in Lion’s Arch?
Why is there Echovald music in Southsun Cove?

These are the things that need to be fixed. With all of the tracks from GW2, Prophecies, and EotN available, the track options are all fine. The issue is where the tracks are playing.

I don’t mind the new jellyfish skin, but, what they should do is make this new skin a new species called green jellyfish and give us a proper rainbow jellyfish like the one shown in the concept arts

I doubt weapons will ever be dyeable, because look at the human cultural weapons, then look at the CM weapons. They’re the same except for their “dye”.

That said, back pieces definitely do need to be dyeable. I almost bought Rox’s quiver, but decided against it because it’s got ugly “dye”.

Some examples include the instrumental version of Fear Not This Night, the extended version of Here Be Dragons, Uzolan’s Mechanical Orchestra, and a track that played in the Crystal Desert in GW1. And there’s much more than those, too.

Most, if not all, of these can be found on Youtube, or be manually ripped from the game files, but the quality is inferior to an official release.

Seeing as the ArenaNet soundcloud has recently been posting all of the post-Soule music in lossless format, and even posted a Soule Wintersday track that was in GW1, I’m wondering if there’s any chance of more unreleased tracks someday being released.

I want the rainbow jellyfish to match its concept art. I do not want the beta juvenile green jellyfish to replace it. I’d rather see the green jellyfish replace the blue one than the rainbow one.
Ideally, though, the rainbow jellyfish would match its art, the blue jellyfish would remain the same, and the green one would be re-added to the game.

Edit: The green jellyfish even had a unique skill in beta, poison whirl. Don’t waste its non-rainbowy skin that looks nothing like the rainbow jellyfish concept art on the rainbow jellyfish.
