So….

If we continually focus on making systems easier to advance within for the sole sake of feeling good about having advanced rather than focusing more on becoming more skilled not just as players but as people, we will continue to perpetuate a culture which rewards rather than dissuades feelings of entitlement. If unchecked, this cultural attitude will spread and further promote and compel others to be less constructive, innovative, and concerned with individually acting in a way which may promote beneficial changes. With less constructive and innovative action overall, we will increasingly compel ourselves to pursue invention which is more about ease and comfort rather than the more ground-breaking improvements needed to address more significant issues, like preventing nuclear war, starvation, death from disease and famine, murder from increasingly radicalized religious beliefs, overpopulation, etc.

It’s promoting an attitude which will encourage us to be lesser people and could potentially undermine the pursuit of innovation that could save humanity (or at least some small part of it).

(I bring up the most grandiose aspects of this problem not out of a desire to insult you, but because I want this message to have a more lasting impression. Hopefully, I’ve succeeded in the latter and not undermined my credibility to you as a source of information by appearing to be someone who does the former. Have fun!)

Well, this is a vidio game. A form of entertainment. Something I and many others to for fun after a long day at work/school.The day GW2 solves world hunger and prevents a nuclear war is the day I eat my shoes.
You talk about “constructive and innovative action” but from what I see, you are not providing those. Your advice seems to be the good ‘ol “git gud”.
I have no delusions about being a legendary player, but after a couple thousand games, I’d say I’m pretty decent. So why must I rise to the level of carrying the entire team just to get out of emerald purgatory? There are many posts here and on reddit about people spending hours upon hours playing and not progressing.
That is not a well designed system and needs to change.

This would make it easier to advance up to Ruby. It would also make it mean less to have advanced up to Ruby.

Yeah, so? There’s still diamond and Legendary after it.
Besides, everybody already thinks that high division people got there either by tanking their MMR or by going premade and farming soloers.

Getting 3 pips is not too hard, a 3 game win streak happens often. 5 game win streak not so much.
Instead of 5×5 tiers make it 8×3. Instead of 6×5 make it 10×3. Instead of 7×5 make it 12×3.
Overall number of pips remains the same but the chances of progressing are much better. Of course, lower the tier rewards accordingly.

I’m sitting on 4 pips right now and I’m afraid to queue because I can already see the miserable loss and a spiral down to 0.
A game should not make me afraid to play it.

I have completed this adventure multiple times and won Gold on it. But I didn’t get the achievement and the mastery point. Every other adventure is working fine.

Oh, that reminds me. A few days before the feature patch I was yoloqueing in Team arena and ran across Hugh “Nightmare” Norfolk. He was a r26 hambow.
Let me say that again: A year and a half since release, the PvP Game designer was (and probably still is) a dolyak.
Is it any wonder that PvP is in this sorry state when the devs only play on the internal servers, or worse, don’t play at all?

Not only is this an unconvincing attempt to make us believe that you actually play thief, but if you’re talking about evasion (and I can’t imagine any other mechanic that would cause you to hate S/D so much)- that’s a mechanic that every profession has, friend.

Except for Necromancer, Engineer and Guardian.

it depends on your luck of course. however, since magic find has an effect on pvp chests it’s more probable to get something valuable out of them.
maybe i’m (casual r50ish, teamq player far away from any kind of leaderboard) just lucky, but after finishing several tracks i got 7 ascended armor and one weapon box.
so, no. it’s not that you can farm any kind of ascended gear there, but if you play regularly you’ll probably get your hands on some every now and then.

Are you kidding me? It’s crap like this that makes people believe there is a lucky/unlucky account flag.

I’m r80, present on both leaderboards, finished 8 reward tracks, opened chests with 230-240% MF and all I got is two ascended rings.
That’s the thing I hate the most about this game, the RNG bullpoop. I can play a thousand more games and not get asc armor, while somebody else can run around hotjoin and get it…

Gonna say gem store again. Why make it PvP-specific when you can sell them to everybody.

  • Unique Class-specific finishers (500 tournament wins on Mesmer = Mesmer Finisher)

Spend time designing 8 finishers that can be used by a few hundred people? Better put that in the gem store.

  • Unique Race-specific finishers (1000 matches played as Sylvari = Sylvari Finisher)

Definitely gem store.

Overall I agree with you, I just don’t share your optimism. They reduced the rank requirement by 90% and now you expect them to increase it again? Not going to happen.

I just check their account names if I don’t recognize the character names. Just to see if any of them is familiar/known to me. Armor is less important, there’s a very small number of people that play only PvP. There was a lot of legendary weapons in the final rounds of ToL.

By “bunker” I mean one of these OP “tanky” builds that can tank 5 players while ripping your head off.

And after spending 7 games afk tonight, I’m now bored enough to come post here again. =]

Have you considered the possibility that you are, in fact, terrible at PvP?
And maybe instead of AFKing whenever you see a bunker, you could try to improve?

Do you feel it is reasonable to consult the playerbase on every single change they make in the game? Do you think it’s reasonable for them to talk to you guys about every change that is made or will be made? Honestly, when would they have the time to actually develop the game if they were doing all that?

Whether or not the balance of dev to player interaction is at a healthy state right now, saying ArenaNet ignores player feedback is factually wrong.

Blizzard is already publishing detailed patch notes for the next WoW expansion which is some 6 months away and adjusting them according to feedback.
Anet hides the patch notes until the day of the patch.
That is the main problem here. Announce things in advance and let the players tell you how broken something will be.

Here’s a quote from one of the Blizzard devs:

Our current focus is to get the expansion into a state where you guys can help us start testing it. That testing will inform many, many decisions, and how the game plays when it’s launched will inform how the first content patch is designed, and how that patch plays out will inform the second content patch, etc. etc. We’d rather be unsure and make the correct decisions when they need to be made, than make the wrong decisions and be too stubborn to change them.

In the first weeks after the feature patch my soloq times were less than 2 minutes. Now it’s 5-8. That’s about the same as it was before the patch. Have the PvE players given up on PvP or is there something else happening?

It’s not about needing “special” builds to fit the map/objectives. It’s that those “special” builds are really lame and everyone feels dirty using them.

Do people feel dirty using MM necros, spirit rangers, hambows?

There is nothing more satisfying in this game than firing the skyhammer at a point with a MM necro on it. Watching those pets melt away in one shot is beautiful.
And you can almost hear the reality slapping that necro in the face when he realizes that drooling on the keyboard while the pets do all the work is not possible on this map.

Or the mighty hambow, coming to the skyham platform, doing his little CC combo that works so well everywhere else, only to be blown away with a nice timed push.

Here’s the thing… PvP players go into solo arena with one goal in mind. To win. Not to “just have fun/hug butterflies/kiss rainbows”. They are in it to win it.
So if their teammate is afking and trying to leave, they will be upset.
Whispering abuse is stupid, pointless and should be reported but keep in mind you are screwing over your team if you are not committed to the match.

Go to youtube. Type in something like “Gw1 Heroes Ascent r15 dragon finisher”. Compare that finisher (8 years old) to ours now. Proceed to facepalm on how much better all /ranks were in gw1.

It is possible the new gemstore finisher will look a lot like the GW1 r15 dragon. This is the model for the finisher (and minipet that will also be released). I’m guessing it will be a part of Dragon Bash or maybe it has something to do with the China release.

Every single change they made regarding Dhuumfire, starting with it’s implementation, has been a massive poopstorm of errors and poor decisions. This is just a continuation of that. It’s like they have no idea what they want the necromancer to be, so they’re just randomly shuffling things around until something sticks.

Well there’s a cool feature in Guild Wars 2 PvP, it’s that all professions are boosted to max stats and level 80 in PvP, so in competitive situatons, you can have multiple professions ready to load right into the battle in order to compensate any perceived weaknesses in your team’s comp.

If you don’t care to switch characters when you need to, you don’t really care that much about winning.

It’s not about winning, it’s about having a balanced match. The game pulls 10 players from a pool of queued people, 3 of them are warriors, and they get placed on the same team. You don’t think that’s a shoddy system that needs to be changed?
Same goes for having 3 thieves, or 3 necros or 3 of anything on one team.

I’m not talking about rank, pretty soon everybody will be phoenix/dragon and it won’t matter. I’m talking about professions, there needs to be a way to balance the teams.
This is a screenshot from a SoloQ match I just played, not the first time something like this has happened.
3 warriors and a guardian on one team while the other one doesn’t have any heavies. Not saying that it’s impossible to win against it, but I think everybody would agree the odds are in favor of the red team.

ok guys how many rank 70+ do we have now in pvp? ill guestimate around 20 and that maybe exagerating by a lot. thats a minority even in a really small pvp community we have. your saying that when 15k players who play pvp, harcore or casual who likes the changes have to listen what the 20 rank70+ players want? gtfo

Those 20 players should get a different colored finisher at least. So when we’re up to our eyeballs in red* dragon finishers and you see a black* dragon pop up, you know that the guy is hardcore.

*I have no idea what the actual finishers look like, but you get my point.

HS nerf would be a balance change, not a hotfix. If it continued healing after the active was used, that would be a bug in need of hotfixing.
They are not doing any balance changes before the big disappointing feature patch, so we’re stuck with HS warriors for a month or two more.

What you are asking isn’t something that we can just turn on so it would have to come in a build later if we decide to do it. At the moment we don’t have a plan to retroactively award points for wins but many of you have brought up some interesting reasons for it so it is something we will take into consideration when we are discussing how to adjust ranks.

As John mentioned previously, we don’t plan on retroactively awarding rank points for previous wins. We will, however, be rebalancing rank tiers to make them more attainable.

It’s a proven fact that you get better efficiency and higher quality work out of people who aren’t filled with entirely negative and toxic environment, which is pretty much what these forums have turned into.

While criticism that points out shortcomings is important, what we have here has gone way beyond that.

If you want a dev community that is highly inspired to give you the best game they can provide, you have to treat them like human beings. If you want them to keep you in the loop of communication, you have to be able to communicate in a mature manner.

If you decide to act like an entitled brat, you’ll just get treated like a kid.

They turned into a negative and “toxic” (hate the overuse of that word btw) environment because they haven’t done anything in 18 months.
Worthless “leaderboards”, 3 bad maps – and they are bad, that’s why they are not in team arena, and what.. some glory vendor? But the worst thing is the lack of balance patches – that is what we are asking for the most – constant and regular balance patches.

And it doesn’t matter if we are all nice and cuddly with them or if we act like “entitled brats”, the result is still the same and will stay the same = nothing will change.

You will still need to do a lot of PvE to get it. A lot.
Unless you want one of the non-shiny versions, then you could get everything you need from bags/TP.

Either way, they are not a skin but an actual item so it can’t be converted to PvP.

While I agree with the op, we cant place the entire blame on the company. The player base that plays these specs are like water and take the path of least resistance.

Block that path and the next path of least resistance will be taken.

That being said, its anets slow response or absence that has made me look elsewhere now for my online gaming.

Flavor of the month builds will always be there and that’s fine, it’s like that in every game. But those builds should not be allowed to rampage around for 6-8 months.

Add skyhammer and spirit watch to your list to make it complete

The temperature on the other side of my front door is -20 °C. Also, I wake up at 5:15 AM, go to work, come home at 4:45 PM and all I want is to play a few matches and have some fun but their sub-par PvP game, as you put it, is making it very difficult.

I am sick of mm necros.

I am sick of standing in a circle.
But most of all I am sick of Anet’s lack of care and attention for PvP. Always talking, always discussing, always planning, always having things on the radar… but (almost) never doing anything.
These big patches better be something spectacular beacuse I am so sick of everything…

I know, that’s why I said I’m not being serious. Well that’s partly true, the first part of my post still stands.
You need to find a way to make PvP more profitable so we can get updates more often.
Because, as hard as it is to believe, some people really don’t care abuot what Scarlet is doing. Why should they be punished with another 2-3 months of waiting for the LS to finish?

A lot of PvP players feel like Anet is neglecting PvP and that their main focus is PvE. That is not entirely true. Their main focus is the Gem store, PvE is just the best method of introducing the new items:

  1. Make a new shopping list of grindy achievements .
  2. Wrap the list up in some sort of “story”.
  3. Release items in the Gem Store that are somewhat related to the “story”.
  4. ???
  5. Profit!

Sometimes they just skip a few steps and say: “Hey, spend $50 and you’ll get this absolutely useless minipet!” And that is exactly what people do. So that brings us to the real problem of PvP: no way to monetize it. Sure, some people buy armor skins and finishers but all of that is usable in PvE too. PvP needs to make money on its own. So without further ado, my suggestions for PvP Gem Store items:

  • Scroll of Past Victories - 1600 gems – Awards player with rank points for victories achieved in Team and Solo Arena prior to December 7th 2013. 300 points for Solo Arena and 800 points for Team Arena. One time use only. Account Bound.
  • Ring of Perception - 1200 gems – Wearer of this ring perceives all opponents as humans. Usable only in PvP. Account bound.
    (other editions could be possible: Norn – for people that want to fight norns. Asura – for people that want to fight disgusting mutated drowned rats. Etc.)
  • Ring of Acrophobia - 1200 – Wearer of this ring will never be placed on the Skyhammer map in competitive tournament play. Usable only in PvP. Account Bound.

There we go, easy 50 bucks. Players get what they want, Anet gets what they want, their NCsoft overlords get what they want. Everybody’s happy.
And maybe if PvP starts making money we get more than 3 updates a year!

I just DCed twice in the same match, "Lost connection to the server, code 7:11:3:191:101 and now I’m scared to queue again.
Quick google search shows hundreds of posts with this same error code, so I don’t think this was my fault (especially since my internet was working the whole time).

However, couldn’t they just handle this like the WvW Chests?
I am not that into wvw, but as far as I know, once there was a rework and everbody just got twice the usual amount of rewards (I think, it was about chests), until he reaches the total amount he would have when this system would have been there in the first place.

Considering how much time it takes to rank up in PvP comapred to WvW this would not work.
I don’t need the gold rewards for previous wins, but we really should get the ranking points. There’s no downside in everybody who played tournaments getting boosted a few ranks.
