makes me very sad.
We’re a smaller guild and the majority of members live in the EST, so it’s like 4am for them. I wouldn’t expect my guildies to be in the mood for fractals 24/7.
Death and Taxes [DnT] | http://www.dtguilds.com/
I haven’t pugged dungeons in a very, very long time, but I do pug Fractals if I’m online at 1am and not enough guildies are awake or interested. My experience is that pugging 38+ is actually not that bad. Most players know what to do and every know and then I even have pugs who help blast my fire fields. Yes, occassionally you have the rifle warrior or staff camping guardian, but they’re not as common as they used to be. Just last night on a 38, I had the entire pug team fully melee almost every encounter, and it was a good run. In the 49/50 range, it’s more uncommon for me to come across totally bad players, than it is to just have a decent group of pugs. Yes, you’ll still have to adjust to pug tactics, but I wouldn’t expect otherwise.
However, if you have limited patience or tolerance for stupid, then I strongly recommend that you don’t pug anything below FOTM 30. That’s where you find most of the rifle warriors, staff guards, bearbows, minion masters, flamethrower engies, and every sort of I-play-how-I-want person you can imagine.

Turn OFF Effect LOD, and you can probably up something else.
Also, 300W is your total power capability, which is shared by all of your computer’s components. If a GPU requires 300W, then your power supply needs to me a lot higher.
Death and Taxes [DnT] | http://www.dtguilds.com/
If you have an open PCI express slot on your motherboard, can you just add one yourself? Just keep in mind your power supply and the amp rail to the card, so you might not be able to get the best graphics card. However, it’s a Dell, so you might not be able to add your own stuff since they have weirdly styled, proprietory cases.

Hello,
I have been told that for max results in dungeons i should always play with a melee weapon, no matter what profession i choose. Even if i go Necromancer – Daggers, Mesmer – Sword, Ranger – GS (lol, melee ranger???), Elementalist – Daggers (not completely melee weapon, thanks god) and so on, with maybe Engineer as only exception?
There sure are some benefits for being in/a melee:
higher dmg, better aoe, you get all buffs …
But i would really like to run with a ranged weapons for some professions, not because i’m a coward, who can’t stay alive in melee range, but because i enjoy being a Elementalist with Staff or Scepter, Mesmer with Staff and GS and so on. I already have Thief as a melee proff, btw.
So, any hope for us, who like ranged play style in pve?
Sorry for english …
Nobody forces you to do anything. I could list you all the benefits of melee combat over ranged combat – and I’m pretty sure others have done so already – but if it’s not fun for you, why bother? If you really enjoy ranged combat, play with like-minded friends and guildies and problem solved.
However, if you intend on joining groups on LFG that advertise for a specific playstyle (“Melee only”, “Full melee”, etc) or gear (“zerk only”, “DPS only”, etc), then either you adhere to their specifications or just don’t join those groups. Either join an “everyone welcome” group, or start your own “everyone welcome” group, then you can range to your heart’s content.

As mentioned above, Anet would need to totally redesign PvE in order to move people away from DPS centric play. As a quick off the top of my head list, these are the things Anet would need to review and rework,
o Dodge Mechanic – (if you can evade the attack it removes the need for support/healing)
o Condition capping – until condi damage matches direct or we get more mobs like the husks at wurm condition damage wont be as useful
o Dungeon Design – Encourages skip and stack gameplay which leads to DPS centric
play
o Event mechanics. Needs to discourage zerging, change the reward mechanics to award support and denial within the zergAs you can see, it’s not an easy or short term fix. If they deem it broken at all.
Boss Mechanics.
It really sounds like you’re asking for ANET to implement the Holy Trinity, which they made very clear from about a year before the game was released (probably earlier, I don’t remember) that said they were trying to get away from. In fact, not having a trinity was one of the selling points of this game, the other two big ones being that there’d be no Grind, and that the game would be generally quite Casual-Friendly.
You’re practically asking them to change one of the core tenets of this game, but who know? Perhaps with enough demand, they just might…
Until then, the game mechanics are what they are – for better or worse. We all know them know and we all understand them. You might not agree with them (personally I’d also like more diversity in class roles rather than 5/5 dps classes), but hey, you go with the flow or you sink.
Death and Taxes [DnT] | http://www.dtguilds.com/
OP, next time you wanna sell, all you need is one trusted friend to act as a proxy group for you.
1. you complete the dungeon and are ready to sell
2. have friend wait outside and advertise on LFG for you
3. buyers will join friend’s group, then pay the friend
4. friend tells you buyer’s name, and you invite him to your group
5. repeat until you have 5 buyers who have already paid
This way, if trolls want to troll, then they’ll at worst kick your friend who’s outside the dungeon.

Transmutation charges and the wardrobe are a huge improvement on the stone system we used to have, but I can’t help feeling like the whole thing is just a clumsy system to try and squeeze money out of us. Before anyone states the obvious, yes I know they need to make money from microtransactions to support the game’s server and content creation overhead costs.
/thread. You really should have stopped here and agreed with yourself.
However, the current system I think hurts both us and ANet more than it helps anyone. Because the transmutation charges are such a pain to get, I feel much less inclined to buy skins, knowing they’ll be a pain to use in the future. I also feel uninclined to buy outfits because they have an all or nothing system where you can’t use just the parts you want. And I don’t feel any inclination to buy transmutation charges either, because the system itself sucks and makes me resentful. Thus I don’t wish to encourage it by supporting it financially, so I instead grind out charges from completing the fastest city maps as fast as I can over and over on throw away characters. Same goes for black lion keys. This in turn makes the game feel less fun and makes me want to play less, thus I spend even less.
How are charges such a pain to get? You buy them with gems if you really want them instantly. They’re literally a couple of clicks away. If you don’t/cant spend real money, then convert gold to gems or casually PVP and you’ll get them pretty quickly. Heck, I very casually PVP’d before the Feature Update, and I got around 80 free Transmutation charges.
For vanity items such as these, as well as other convenience items, I’m totally OK with ANET finding ways to make money off them. It’s pretty unfair to expect a subscription-free MMO to give everything out for free and not make any money.

The issue with builds and gear is that you can’t have people ping their build ( traits) and gear – they can ping any gear and wear other gear.
This doesn’t work because it’s not something you can check. Sure it would be great if we had this option but we don’t.Gods I hope we don’t get a feature like that because then the elitists would make sure that noone but other elites can join their PUGs and most PUGs, from the LFG comments appear to be elitists already.
You want dungeons to be challenging, PUG with a group of newbies and show them the ropes, which doesn’t mean shout follow me and disappear down an not so obvious path.
I disagree with your logic. If you see a LFG post asking for a specific build (especially if it’s a build you don’t agree with), why would you still join them? You have just as much freedom to start your very own group with your own specifications. I would never join a group on LFG asking specifically for “shout heal warrior” or “water field ele”.
The only people who don’t want gear checks are those with something to hide. Those who want to sneak into “Meta only” groups and expect to be carried. These people, I believe, know in their heart of hearts how bad their non-meta builds are so they’d never want to play with other non-meta players themselves. They, however, want to be unique snowflakes in what they perceive to be a world full of cookie cutter meta builds, refuse to “conform”, then try to sneak into meta groups because they secretly admit that meta is the best way of going about in GW2.
With gear inspections, honest non-meta players are just as free to start their own groups, inspect people who join and kick out players with meta builds.

After the nth time this same topic pops up, can’t we all just conclude that:
1. Just because someone has very high AP doesn’t mean it’s a guarantee that they’ll be skilled. It’s just someone been grinding AP for a while.
2. However, very low AP can be a red flag if you’re doing challenging, end-game content. Say you have a 4/5 group looking for a fifth in a Fractals 50 Swamp. You post on LFG and a guardian with 1200 AP joins. Everyone’s going to be like “ummm…this guy probably won’t have enough AR”.
Death and Taxes [DnT] | http://www.dtguilds.com/
I’d be OK if ANET charged gems for housing. If you want your own house? Buy one with gems. You get to invite people over, but they can only enter if invited. You want furniture to decorate your house? Gemstore.
They rest of us who are too poor or too stingy? We’ll just stand out here in Lion’s Arch with the rest of the peasants.

Not to mentio nthat you can get knocked into the lava if you’re caught in a bad position and combo’d into some of his abilities with the falling rocks.
If he is standing next to the edge, you don’t want to melee him with you in between him and the edge of the cliff. Also, like it’s been mentioned earlier, you want to melee him at max range so he doesn’t do his knockback. But yeah, if you do get knocked down by the falling rocks and then he spams his fireballs while your group’s reflects are on cool down, it’s just bad luck.
tl;dr melee him at max range and keep reflects up. Also, don’t stand next to the cliff.

Tyria is much too small to incorporate mounts. I’d be more susceptible to the idea if about 80%-90% of the existing waypoints were removed (or “destroyed by the vines” or whatever). As it is, fast travel is just too easy and an already small world will become seemingly much smaller.

Mistlock instabilities should have been implemented like Queen’s Gauntlet gambits.
As they are, everyone just skips them… they’re a complete and total failure.
Either this, or like someone already mentioned, have the mistlocks random.
Example,
In the 31-40 Tier, 10 possible instabilities.
In the 41-50 Tier, 20 possibilities
In the 51-60 Tier, 30 possibilities, etc.
As it is, I really hate how we skip over most of the instabilities (as in probably all except the ones in 40 and 49/50). Every in-between level is pretty much worthless. I also hate how we roll swamp every time. I hope they fix it so rolling is no longer possible.

+1 to this pointer issue getting resolved in the next QoL update.
FWIW, I don’t think it’s the particle effects and explosions that are hiding the cursor. I think it just straight up disappears and then reappears randomly in other parts of the screen. Too many times have I accidentally prompted the vote kick on a party member when I was just looking for my mouse and right clicking to move the camera while fighting.

Chess is boring for some people. Baseball is boring for some people. WoW is boring for some people. Guild Wars 2 is boring for some people.
That doesn’t make it boring. It certainly doesn’t mean the format doesn’t hold up. It might, however, mean that you and it aren’t compatible.
And that’s okay.
I agree with you but it doesnt change the fact that those games and sports have alot of depth which Gw2 surprisingly lacks
Just based on the issues you complained about, it really doesn’t sound like you got very far into the game. Yes, the learning curve for this game is very shallow and allows every potato and his grandmother to pick up the game and start zerging in Cursed Shore, but that’s just the surface. There’s a lot more going on once you start optimizing builds for specific purposes and get into honing your skill with a group of like-minded friends or guildies.
I say, at least get to 80 on a couple of classes and really get to know their dynamics and roles in various contexts before you complain about depth. However, if you meant “complexity”, then yeah, this game does lack the complexity that was present in some of the more traditional MMOs like Everquest 2 – however, this was also one of ANET’s selling points, and it wasn’t exactly a secret.
Death and Taxes [DnT] | http://www.dtguilds.com/
You’re supposed to craft your armor and consider anything useful that drops as a bonus/cost savings.
Crafting armor was sapping my will to live. Thought Fractals would be a less painful alternative.
Running Fractals for an ascended set is like refusing to get a job and just playing the lottery so you can have a comfy retirement. Just run Fractals for the fun of it, and don’t ever expect anything good.

If there was wear and tear in this game, then it would have been cool for our armor to get more worn out, dirty and damaged the further we progressed without repairs. Then, we could have gone to a repair vendor and our armor would be new and shiny again (or back to however it was).
As it is, we could potentially have it so that as each piece gets damaged (after each death), the damaged piece would look worn out and, well, damaged. Then, when it eventually gets destroyed, it could just disappear like it currently does.
However, this is one of those things that are just nifty and cosmetic and will take an insane amount of work by ANET for them to make damaged/dirty/worn out versions of each armor piece for each race and gender, so I’d rather they just focus on things we really need.

At this point, I’m just hoping ANET will just cut their losses and forget about this Leaderboards fiasco.
Just spend the time, money and human resources to give us new, rewarding content. As an avid fractal runner, I don’t even mean loot on the scale of the first month of fotm when we’d come out with a dozen rares from running level 20s fractals. I’d be happy if it was merely comparable to dungeon rewards at this point.

Last “content patch” was 6 months ago, it is knows as the “Fractured” patch. Just writing this word makes me shiver. It is synonym with abuse of power, lies, deception and content removal.
Next patch will be in six months, logically, and it will probably be named “Mutilated”.
This sounds about right. All “hard” dungeons get nerfed, and additional “content” is bonus cutscenes like the one they added for the Volcanic fractal. Then, to put us all on “equal footing” for the new Dungeons Leaderboards, all of our dungeon access gets locked, DM titles get removed and our dungeon tokens get reset to zero.
The race to be first to unlock AC Story Mode begins with “Mutilated”!
EDIT: Also, let’s not forget extreme camera zoom in during boss fights for “immersion”; nerfing most of the trash mobs so they no longer drop loot or give stacks; and of course, NPC AI “fixed” so they now Leroy into every group of mobs and room pull them towards you.
EDIT2: yes, I might still be slightly bitter about “Fractured”.

That’d be awesome. No more boring world bosses for me ever…
I think Chris mentioned in the CDI the rewards team liked the idea of adding dragonite ore to fractals for dungeon players. Not that this means anything ofc, wouldn’t get your hopes up.
I’d love this, but it’s VERY unlikely to happen. The whole reason they force us to go out and do world events is because about a year ago, people were complaining that there weren’t enough people doing these. Now that the devs finally found a way to force us out there, there’s no way they’ll revert this. Personally, I really don’t find zerging world bosses fun or challenging and would love for an alternative way to earn dragonite.
Death and Taxes [DnT] | http://www.dtguilds.com/
I’d rather see GW1 missions in fractals too…
I’d also rather see GW1 missions, and pre-GW1 Lore-related events coughabbadoncough…
What I’d rather NOT see is recycled LS content that we all zerged to death for 2 weeks straight. This is just lazy and adds junk, filler content to fractals.

You must be new to video games…
Well this is more about MMO games, not games in general. I played a couple MMOs and whenever I wanted something in them I would be able to get it. It wasnt dependant on my luck but on my effort/time spent.
I’m not commenting on whether the RNG in GW2 is good, bad or needs to be toned down, just on how you’re wrong comparing GW2 to other MMOs.
I don’t know what MMOs you played in the past, but you obviously didn’t play their endgame at a very high level (I’m not talking about whether you reached max level or not, or trying to acquire relatively common dungeon drops).
Take MMOs like WoW and EQ2 and if you’ve ever done any top-tier raiding, you’ll remember that you get to fight a raid boss once a week, then hope your item drops (very low chance), and IF it does drop, THEN you still have to bid DKP against other people in your raid who want that same item. You were, out-bid? Too bad, you go again the following week and rinse and repeat this process.
Compared to other MMOs, RNG in GW2 isn’t bad at all. Yes, RNG for certain things like Ascended weapons chests and precursors are very, very low, but you still have alternative means of acquiring them.
Death and Taxes [DnT] | http://www.dtguilds.com/
Why would a public DPS meter be bad? People with bad dps won’t get into parties like “full offensive only, gear & traitcheck” anyway, a public dps meter would simply filter out liars. And anyone who doesn’t care about how much dps he deals wouldn’t mind the dps meter anyway. So in my opinion if there is a better thing than a private dps meter that could be added to gw2, it’s a public one.
Don’t get me wrong, I totally agree, but this explanation will not work with the baddies, liars and play-how-I-want crowd.
It is interesting that they insist on playing how they want and look down their noses at people who optimize and follow META for being “boring, soul-less cookie cutters”, but they still expect to sneak into your groups and be carried. At least on a subconscious level, they all agree – even if they’d never admit it out loud – that their playstyle is just plain inferior in terms of getting things done and clearing content in a timely fashion, but they refuse to learn, change or adapt. This is why they refuse to simply just group with other like-minded people, and instead, try and sneak into “zerker only” groups.
Thus, having a DPS meter will filter them out and end their habit of getting carried by the cookie cutters, so of course, they are against public DPS meters.
I have no issue with the true I-play-how-I-want crowd. They do whatever they want, and don’t bother anyone else. They genuinely don’t care about DPS and have fun running around and exploring the open world, doing Living Story, etc, and I have no problems with them. The worst are the dishonest people who want the best of both worlds: they wish to keep their inferior builds and expect to be carried by the zerkers.
Death and Taxes [DnT] | http://www.dtguilds.com/
Things that will blow my mind, aka things that will never happen in this game:
1. DPS meters
2. Inspect feature (just like inspecting in PVP)
3. New dungeons and Fractals with skilled players in mind
4. Instanced (and challenging) guild raids
5. Hard Mode with proportionately better rewards for skilled players
Death and Taxes [DnT] | http://www.dtguilds.com/
I think we can just sum up our collective experience with pugs and AP requirements as:
very low (less than 2k AP) almost always bad; but high doesn’t necessarily guarantee a good player. (“Almost always” and “doesn’t necessarily” used to account for outliers.)
tl;dr: most pugs will fall in between 2k-10k AP, and are still going to be pretty much a gamble.
Death and Taxes [DnT] | http://www.dtguilds.com/
‘d be sweet, but i’m afraid the casuals would go up in arms if this were to be released.
also this HP floater that was flying around in the forum earlier was amazing.
Well, the meter would be “private” so no one else would be able to see or judge.
However, I agree the casual carebears would go up in arms because how dare a DPS meter show objectively (even privately) how bad their scepter/rifle/bow/staff builds are!
Ken DeBoer.9268If they didn’t want to release this because it could lead to different dps meters, maybe they could make training dummies that you could “duel” and they would give a dps report after 1 min.
Everquest 2 had something like this. It was a “training wall” in the middle of a jungle zone that you could go practice and parse on. After you destroyed it, it’d rebuild after a few mins (I think it was around 5 or 10).
That was one of my most memorable experiences in that game. There would always be a crowd of people there watching whoever was training on the wall or waiting next in line. It was very social and fun and it was a friendly, competitive atmosphere.
Yes, even EQ2 had its share of casual carebears but they didn’t care about such “elitist” things such as DPS parsing so they’d stick to the major cities where they’d spend their time roleplaying, crafting or decorating their homes or guild halls. They were nice enough to not cry about game features that they were neither interested in nor affected by.

Hi Folks,
Good discussion. I am enjoying it. The discussion about re rolling is very insightful.
I would appreciate it if you could put some ideas forward for Leader-board mechanics.
Specifically in regard to the fact that I was unhappy with us putting out Leader-boards in their previous functionality (having lots of folks sitting at lvl 50 was not ideal) and therefore the feature was held back.
Obviously we have given Level 50 Leader diversification a lot of thought but it would be awesome to hear your proposals. Note there are a lot of logic problems in the solutions in this area so please do think about associated risks.
Cheers
Chris
Proposal Overview
Most of us didn’t ask for the Leaderboards, and weren’t at all keen on the idea of it as was originally described (A ranking of whoever got to 50 first, second, third, etc). Such a leaderboard did not take any skill to get to the top of. It was merely a list of whoever could afford to take days off from work or school right after Fractured was released, and who sacrificed the most sleep.
Goal of Proposal
A Leaderboard that is more skillbased, that would spur more competition among the players. As well as include a few things that would be fun (largest attack crits) and a few things for boasting rights (most tokens collected).
Proposal Functionality
Leaderboards that are visible in-game. Perhaps as a new tab in the Hero (H) panel. The Leaderboards would list such things as
*the best times for each shard at the current max level (eg. 9:52 mins for Swamp by such and such people)
*Biggest melee attack
*Biggest spell attack
*Most number of fractals tokens on hand
*Most number of fractals tokens ever earned
*Most number of fractal weapon skins collected (included the repeats)
Associated Risks
Can’t really think of risks or Issues with this.

Sssshhhhhhh…we’re not supposed to mention Fractals Leaderboards because ANET wants us all to forget this fiasco ever happened. Notice how before Fractured released, the Leaderboards was the big selling point to as to why we were all going to be reset to PRL 30. Now, they really downplay it and in the relatively recent interview, a dev was touting the Mistlocks as to why we were all reset. Well, most of the people I know only did 49 to level up anyway, that was a huge waste of effort to reset us.
Death and Taxes [DnT] | http://www.dtguilds.com/
3) If ArenaNet is still looking for a ways to provide difficult end-game content, what is the progress after over 1 year?
In the last year or so, it turned out that the small population of players who want harder dungeon content do not, as a whole, spend nearly enough money on the game as the majority of carebares who’d rather autoattack/afk on outdoor enemies or immerse themselves in LS content. As an avid dungeon runner, I wouldn’t be surprised if we were outnumbered 1:100 or even 1:1000.
Anet is, afterall, a business, and their bottom line is best serving the profitable majority with the least amount of effort.
tl;dr we’re probably never going to get hard dungeons
Death and Taxes [DnT] | http://www.dtguilds.com/
Changing your race would change any race-related skills that you have. Also, it would change and affect any cultural armor you have. You would have armor bound to a character and that character isn’t even the appropriate race.
Not to mention the personal story is an integral part of the game. GW2 is an MMORPG. How many RPG’s don’t have a campaign (which is what the personal story is).
I agree with the other posters who say if you want a “generic” personal story, you aren’t a fan of the game. You can make a new character and level them with crafting.
Don’t be lazy. If you want another character if another race make one. If your character slots are full, buy another. Anet still gets your money that way.
This might come as a surprise to you, but there are a lot of us who think the Personal Story in this game is garbage. We don’t like to be Trahearne’s [female dog] and follow him around on bland, generic missions.
I would gladly have my Personal Story be reset after a race change. Just let me keep all my gear, skills and other stats.
For those with T3 Cultural Armor, just replace the set with the T3 of whatever new race they pick. If the set’s been transmute for different stats, just keep the same stats, but change the skin only. If this is too difficult, I’m sure people won’t mind a simple refund in gold for the T3 set. They only just lose out on six Transmutation crystals and maybe a set of CoF armor.

Just to make sure i don’t offend anyone, This is obviously not meant racist in any way. In fact, i have some darker colored characters myself as a white man.
You have a legitimate topic which I find interesting. However, I hate the fact that you felt like you needed to preemptively include this “apology”. Have we, as a society, become so mindlessly politically correct and apologetic that we have to be sorry every time someone mentions skin color or race?
As far as I’m concerned, pointing out the fact that a brown person is brown, a black person is black, or a white person is white should not be offensive to most rational adults. What would be offensive is making [obviously false] statements such as “that person is a bad player because he’s [insert skin color]”.
Either way, OP, you had a legitimate question as to whether or not people choose to play characters that are the same race as they are and you should not be apologetic for asking this.

Beautiful world, great artistic style, interesting lore, some very memorable and likeable characters (Destiny’s Edge), enjoyable combat, etc. So much going for this game, but I hate how the dungeon community is either outright ignored or we get slapped in the face and spat on (see: the Fractured update, TAFU being replaced by Aetherpath).

What exactly are pseudo legendary’s in the game? A fake legendary?
Really, really expensive exotics with cool particle effects and their own names. Some of these cost as much as precursors.

Anet, when are you going to fix the camera on the final volcanic fight? If this kittenty new camera angle is intended, then it’s a very lame and artificial way to inflate difficulty. You’re better than that.
