Issues
– Melee only weaponset, this is the biggest problem. Engaging and disengaging revolve around this.
- Engaging -quite hard to stay up in range against all classes, played by half competant players. No point in chasing Warriors, Thieves, Rangers, Engi’s.
- Disengaging, really hard to disengage from most classes. It is possible, but depending on distance a DD ele will be caught by at least all 4 classes above.

Skills

FGS – thanks very much for the cast whilst moving… really nice. Not going to use this though as its 180 sec cd. Puts me at a disadvantage against other classes that can use their elites on cd in fights. SoR/Moa/BV etc etc, I could use this, but then i’m locked out of my main skills.

Fire Axe/Flame Leap – Nice, but no Savage Leap… plus limited charges (Conjures function similar to kits please !)

LIghting Flash – nice skill cd is ok traited, stun break removal not too much of an issue as it usually puts you out of harms way. 90% of the time however its used to land CE/BS/Misfire Grab

RTL – Lol. Enough said

Buring Speed – 600 range, primary burst skill in the weapon set, fire field. 15 sec cd.

Magnetic Grasp – 900 range (should really be classed as 700ish as travel time of the projectile affects this hitting). Extremely buggy in my opinion. 12 sec cd. The leap finisher mechanic should revert to the slide effect it used to have

Solutions

I really think the weakness comes from mainhand dagger. Used in isolation its only got 2 gap closers. BS and MG niether of which are 1200 range. Movement control comes from frozen burst and ring of earth both of which only have a 240 range.
I think main hand dagger needs another gap closer. I would suggest reworking Frozen Burst.

>900 range
>1 sec channel time
>20 second cooldown
>Remove the damage
>Reduce the chill time to 2 seconds
>Reduce radius down to 180.

This puts a gap closer in water, which means we have already used the heal on water attunement, so the ele has already used most of their healing before use. The nerf to its other areas compensate for its mobility element

Exactly. DD eles need another gap closer if they insist on keeping RTL at 40 on a miss. Its really frustrating watching other classes kite me around or disengaging. Im melee, only melee,I should be on a par with the most mobile builds in the game.

My suggestion would be altering Frozen Burst to an instant port 900 range and take the chill duration down to 2 secs. Keep its 15 sec cd.

I must admit, bringing RTL back down to a standard 20 sec (15 ? :P) would really help out alot. Also, remove the aoe dmg and triple its current dmg on a single target.

Ive said it many times now. Im not really all that bothered about the disengage. Its now for me the fact that all it takes is 1 blind/block/dodge (prob easiest gap closer in the game to see coming) and im then struggling to keep myself up in ppls face.

Just about any class well played now has no problem disengaging/kiting from a dd ele, whilst i tickle them.

A Key 'RTL' Problem

The only key RTL problem is that the cd is just too high on a non hit.

Apart from disengaging, its also a pita to maintain being up in competant players faces as 1 dodge its really hard now to stay on top of people.

The other problems are :

the self stun when your immob’d
being locked out of skills when in use

Anet please could you explain the 40 sec cd on this 1200 movement skill – the only 1200 a d/d possesses Especially when you lanch the game with it on a 15 sec cd ? Thats some truely radical nerfing.

Personal Guild Banks

Not sure if this is the place to put this but was wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue

My main guild was on Ruins Of Surmia server, during the time on the server I created my own personal guild to provide me with some bank spaces and somewhere to put some gold so i didnt spend it.
My main guild moved over to Aurora Glade and I forgot to withdraw everything I had from my personal guild on Ruins of Surmia. Now guesting doesnt allow me to go back to RoS to access my personal guild bank on RoS. Why ? Now I either have to leave my gold and items behind or pay for gems to pay for 2 transfers to RoS and then back to AG.

Anyone else have any experience with this sort of thing ?

The Orb buffs will ruin WvW for small mans.

I had an interesting thing happen today. I had killed a thief from an opposing server twice in amongst the ruins.

The next time I saw him, he was running back from garrison whilst I was capping Bauer’s. his server had 2 stacks of buff…. we at the time had none, but with 20 secs countdown left until we got one off them. So he waited until we had capped the buff so we were equal in stats, then he /bow and 1v1ing we went.

To me thats just proof that this buff is not wanted. At all.

Seriously Anet, admit that you have got this wrong this time and adjust it, for the sake of your game, swallow your pride and you can still walk away with your head held high before all your players leave. As soon as you have competition ie ESO / CU because players will leave.

Give it time… once the trains figure out their reward is non existant I think it will become what its intended to be. A haven for 5 mans and below. At last.

They need to rework the stat buff though… its massively breaking wvw for all.

Personally I believe it should be reverted back to its 20 sec cd. The range correction was more than enough to stop us from resetting fights. Although see attached screen for a laugh ^^

What really annoys me about it now, and being a melee only set (dd) I find it really hard to keep on top of people. All it takes is 1 dodge/blind/block and thats it my target can keep kiting me. LF almost has to be used to attempt to land CE, Burning Speed and Magnetic Grasp just are not enough gap closing skills to keep us in peoples face.

I would also like its base damage to be increased as well. Currently as a dd ele all of our burst comes from fire (CE is a joke skill – even landing it with LF its still too easy to dodge) burning speed is too easy to see coming and gets dodged and fire grab should be renamed to misfire grab its hits so infrequently.

With 2570 armour I got hit by an 8.5k Rush the other day, it would be really nice to see RTL capable of pushing out some proper damage aswell.

Im tentatively optimistic about these changes. Having roamed exclusively since October last year, Ive been sick to death of zerg fights and the ppt game on the whole. This change however has at least given the ppl that want to pvp properly, somewhere to go and play.

My only concerns are:

> Map layout in terms of towers and keeps should be more spread… zergs will run through alot with it being the middle of the map
> Over buffing the already dominating over wvw populated, off prime time servers
> Lack of rewards for the dedicated Bloodlust cappers – No wxp, no tower defense/cap silver etc – Make stomp kills in the area have a higher chance of exotics

Apart from that Im looking forward to this, roll on the 17th

Ok, I have 1k + hours on my ele. All I do is roam in wvw. Yes I was gutted when RTL got nerfed into oblivion, but I coped with it and dealt with it.

But the last few patches have made this skill worthless imo. Other classes mobility been bought up and ours is just bad. On a miss/dodge/blind/block we are stuck left trying to chase ppl down as a melee class. Why ?

Please dont tell me f3 and e3 are enough gap closers to keep players within our range because they just arent. RTL needs looking at again please anet, at the moment it isnt able to be used offensively (the only time it hits is when you join a skimish and a player isnt looking, 9/10 players see the big ball of electrical light hurtling towards them and dodge it the other times) and defensively the cd is excessive. And no i’m not using FGS on a 180 cd to either keep the gap closed or to create the gap, leaving our inherent weapon mechanics etc unaccessible, whilst every other class fires and forgets with their respective elites.

Now i just get /laugh in wvw because escaping is really hard work (yes its doable if you have most of your cd’s) and /laugh at by ranged and the other faster melee classes out there as i’m left hitting mid air in the voids they just left.

Please reassess RTL.

The game is headed in the direction of a re-balance.

1. change map population cap to force players away from top servers

Anet has already made changes to player cap and said they can change this at any time.

2. Stat buff for outmanned AND outpointed servers as well as stat de-buff for high population AND high PPT servers

I don’t see any way of making the game “balanced” and FUN for everyone without this.

3. Change from server bases WvWvW to faction based WvWvW, with “overflow” instances added for more players.

We already have 3 factions in GW2, Vigil, Priory and Order of Wispers.

I agree strongly with the first 2 and seriously hope ANET is already long since working on this. They cannot lower WvW map population caps significantly without doing something to both fix and improve the queue system and finding a way to make the players want to spread our populations out more evenly between the worlds.

I am not so sure about your 3rd point but do see the merits in it. It just does not sound like something that could done quickly or easily and making that big of a change in direction is usually something game company’s do not like to do until they are desperate.

But yes, the first 2 points need to happen as soon as possible and I dare say if we don’t get communication along those lines before the one year anniversary there are a lot of folks who are going to be beyond frustrated with how long things have been allowed to degrade with those simple changes that would make such a huge and immediate impact not having been implemented. Once those simple changes are in place ANET can re-evaluate the new meta that results to determine what additional changes are still needed to improve the quality of WvW overall across servers.

In my opinion its foolish to impose a lower population cap on maps. It will not change anything. Ive played on Seafarers in its eminence as the top EU server, and I am currently playing on Ruins of Surmia… a total opposite server., in the 2nd from bottom EU tier.

The fundamental fact remains…even outmanned on RoS, zergs happen, skill lag happens. A population cap will not solve the problem, It may ease it somewhat, but forcing players to spend either rl money or in game money to be able to transfer is not good.

I believe the the only way to prevent the blobs/skill lag and queues is to promote and incentivise smaller group play through in game mechanics. The issue Anet have is getting the correct balance between enabling casual players to come into WvW and find a group and enjoy some soft pvp and also providing the harder core guilds good fights.

As someone said a while ago. WvW is about pvp … all types of pvp from solo/duo/5mans – the 30 man guild/pug groups.

The commuinity is putting out ideas… Anet just need the time to implement them. It would be nice to hear some ideas of theirs about it and for them to seek feedback from us rather than just springing it on us.

In the time being its in the communities power to help alleviate these things. Realise that there really isnt any point in the ppt game. Stick only with your guild… challenge yourselves to solo a supply camp and any enemies guarding it,instead of looking for the nearest friendly zerg.

As for SM, just make it worth no points and have it as a playground for fights. We the commuinity should just for the love of the game, forget about it being worth anything and walk away and try to kill the players reinforcing it.

Roaming videos have been done to death. Roaming doesn’t help your world accomplish anything.

Can anyone link a video showing actual WvWvW tactics—trap placement, which bases to hit and how, proper use of siege and how to protect them, etc?

I can’t wait for dueling to be implemented so roamers become a thing of the past.

It is possible, although I have only done it once on my dd ele, and at golanta so plenty of places to kite the npcs around.

Again, pulling a few off at a time is the only way possible I think.

I’ve said it before in another thread complaining about the same thing, OP. You entered a PvP game called WORLD vs WORLD, where siege weapons and teamwork is needed to get anything done. If you don’t like the TEAM aspect of a large number of people working together for a common goal (mostly referred to as a “zerg”), then click the crossed swords at the top of your screen, and quit complaining.

World vs World doesn’t imply only Zerg PvP…. its foolish to think it does.

Its simply the Worlds (Servers) vs one another.

All forms of PvP are present in World vs World.

Solo/Smallman/Zerging.

Only one (zerging) has no disadvantage associated with it.

WvW DOES = Zerg fights. The problem is that you seem to think “zergs” are a bad thing. You can demonize the term all you want, but in the end of the day, zergs are nothing more than a large group of people working together towards a common goal. Sorry you hate teamwork in a large scale team-oriented game. There are other PvP options available to you, and I’d suggest you use them.

WvW doesn’t = only Zerg fights..I don’t know how much more I can explain that to you. You can have Zerg fights in WvW, but that’s not all that WvW is designed around, nor should it be. I also don’t think zergs are bad….I do think if you over reward the most skill-less of PvP you end up with what we currently have. Also getting a large group of people together isn’t hard…They not only give you a commander icon, they bloody give you aoe buffs and heals, and allow anyone to res..They also removed the ability for random groups to come back and completely wipe your zerg for not paying attention..You’d crap yourself if you tried to lead a zerg in DAOC..

Exactly, zerg fights are fine, and as many people have pointed out its human nature to group up. But Anet have included mechanics in the game to encourage zerging when it would have happened naturally, rather than including mechanics to encourage people to get out of their comfort zone and fight in smaller scale. Its backwards.

The problem with WvW in this game is really, Zerging is the most rewarding thing in the game, The most skill-less form of PvP is the the most rewarded form. That should never be the case in any PvP MMO.

There are zero disadvantages in this game for having more numbers, Zero….You can move as fast if not faster then smaller numbers, You have more opportunity at heals/buffs/rezzes then smaller numbers, and Since Smaller Numbers have less people, you can hit more % of their zerg with AOE vs them hitting you. I mean really..Zero disadvantage…

I just want to point out that this is the most concise description of the main problem with wvw.

Yes, large battles are fun, and I fully support large battles for those players that like that. But there are players that want to have small scale fights aswell.. outside of an spvp setting before people suggest this.

Every single mechanic in the game promotes and encourages large battles. Including the new reward chest for ranks. 1 player in my guild mainly rolls with the large guild group/or cmdr zerg, and is a rank well over 100. Myself on the other hand, am not even rank 30. I have twice as many yak slaps/camps taken. But they are rewarded with more gold/items etc than me, in their risk free/less skill pvp gamestyle.

Im happy that people want to have big fights.. .thats their choice, but for the people who dont want that (and spvp is not an option… its just nowhere near the same) some mechanics need to be introduced to make both types of playstyle attractive and viable.

Anyone that QQ’s about the zerg but still enjoys player vs player fighting should look in to structured PvP.

Do I zerg? Sometimes when my guild is not on. When they are, we’re the pain in the kitten group that stirs up trouble cutting off supply and taking paper towers.

No no no no no. Spvp is not what roamers want.

Roamers want small scale 1-10 vs 1-15 fights, where your build / party is not centered around standing inside a small circle. Where they can feel like they can contribute but not just get rolled over by zergs.

There is a reason thieves are right now pretty much the best class to roam with… 1 of the reasons is because they have the most efficient way of disengaging and running from zergs.

The game cannot handle the huge fights zergers want.. skill lag is caused by these zerg vs zerg clashes, which again penalizes the roamers. So not only are the mechanics of wvw against roamers, so is the actual technology behind the game.

Happy to go with this new matchup system when you change the way the scoring works. It was pointed out to you at the very beginning Anet. “Off hours” capping completely imbalances the game.

Please don’t comment on my off hours being your on hours… the debate has raged since launch. Servers with greater coverage gain more ppt.

Factor in the number of players from a server in the actual map and apply some rulesets around this to determine value of objectives.

Get rid of the most points for yaks for 10 ppl hitting it. A solo player should get the most points available for the slap, rather than the zerg.

Have you, Anet, actually played on a demoralized server ? Lets see what this new matchup system produces… im guessing alot of very very very disgruntled wvw players.

Mesmers in Obsidian Sanctum Entrance

Im also pretty annoyed at this.. As a 99.9% player of wvw, im already broke constantly. Most days I would pop into the JP to farm the ori ore that spawned there, collect the chest and maybe hang around enjoying some small scale pvp, which doesn’t involve building your character for standing on a small circle.

I may be wrong about this, but I cannot find that ori ore anywhere now in the puzzle.. does anyone know if it spawns elsewhere in the EB map ?

Boon duration runes

Depending on your spec, try out a full set of Altruism runes. Im currently running them and am really pleased with how they have worked out. From 60 % with the Monk Water Water runes down to 45 % with Altruism, the flip side of this when running with Ether Renewal as your heal, is group wide 3 x might stacks and fury ~7 secs every 20 seconds or so which imo make up for the 15 % decrease.

If your fully bunker and running with Clerics as part of your trinket set up Altruism will give you piece of mind for switching out to more offensive based trinkets, or even Ascended celestials.

AFK and the Auto Heal

Seriously, the queues in tier 1 are game destroying, its compounded by people standing at spawn with heal on auto. Im happy that people do need to afk for a few mins, but when you see the same players in the same place 30 mins after you have been running around its a joke.
A-net please do something about this, once the afk timer has passed do a check on 3 heals in a row with no other action (or any other skill) and then boot them back to character select.

Clap for all the people that suggest leaving tier 1.

I agree with Oto, zerging a yak, shouldn’t provide more points than a solo player slapping it. I also think that a small % increase should be given for the roamers when they cap sentries and camps. For instance Supply Camps PPT are 5, then why not provide an instant +5 points to the servers score if its capped by 5 or fewer players +3 for 5-10 players and none for any more than 10.
A similar thing could be worked for defending an area. Today we had 10 invaders attacking Klovan, Im generally by myself so I shout on map chat that I need 5 or so players to come to Klovan to help me wipe the group attacking it…. no one comes and the group destroy’s the cannons/oil. I continue to shout that I need a few ppl come to help wipe, 30 seconds later our entire EB zerg comes and wipes them 70-80 ppl to wipe 10 players. Pathetic really.
Why not lower the reward for a successful defence of a tower by a zerg, but double it for say less than 10 players, likewise with camps and such.
I’m not saying these are great ideas, but the community needs to help the developers come up with creative solutions to stop the 70 – 80 zergs and promote the 15-20 man groups relieving seiges.

How do you change attunements ?

My keybinds are actually pretty crazy, but quite comfortable once I got used to them.

Caps lock is 1 skill
2345 for their respective skills
qwe for left, forward,right
shift+qwer for attunement swaps (also have shift programmed to mouse button 7 on naga, so activated with my right thumb, makes for v.easy attunement swapping)
shift + s for 180
dodge and heal also on naga buttons 8 + 10
dfxc for 7,8,9 and elite in that order.

Only problem I get with this set up is occasionally when I type in combat, its in CAPS

Earlier today I was hit with a 6k steal 6k CnD and a 11.5k Bs. Again like you in full exotic PVT gear with Omnom bread for extra tough and vit. Pretty much 3 hits delivered in 1 second flat equals a dead Doyen >.<

I just want to put some information into circulation about the location of the servers.

Forgive my lack of the internet and network knowledge, but to me this is the most that I can do.

I’m on Seafarers Rest, an EU labelled server.
I live in the UK, so i’m GMT.
I’m logged into the game and stood in EB after just porting in, the time on my mini map reads 20:25.
I go into options and UI, change the time to read “Server time”, it changes to 13:25. 7 hours behind me, indicating that the server is in the US.
I type /ip into chat
206.127.159.140
I then type the ip address into www.whatsmyipaddress.com – it indicates that its geophysical location is Texas, US.

To me that suggests that despite playing on an EU labelled server, i’m actually playing on a server with its location in the US.

This leads me onto my second point. There is something fundamentally wrong with wvw at the moment. A huge part of this is pvdoor.

If all the servers were to be dismantled and new ones created they could quite feasibly be global servers, with all nationalities on them speaking all languages. Truly cosmopolitan server, with multitude of cultures all mingling and interacting with each other, as the internet should be.

Final Fantasy XI used a feature called (auto-translate) almost 10 years ago now, to get over the language and communication barrier, a genius thing. Keywords, landmarks, items, skills – everything fundamental to the game belonged in it. A similar feature could be used to help over come any communication issues.

If people really hate foreign languages that much, just ignore the speaker.

It is time to remove labelled servers and merge them all into global ones, the “nightcapping” issues would eventually settle themselves out. The only argument against it that makes sense is language issues. A simple solution as I pointed out above could help to resolve this.
