Acquire Dungeons Skins for PVE by Playing PVP

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

“A Reward Track is a set of rewards that you earn by playing PvP. Each track has rewards at certain intervals: some that you can earn in a just couple of matches, bigger rewards that you can earn in a play session, and a really sweet end prize that you can earn in a few play sessions.

Examples of rewards you can look forward to include various levels of loot boxes, crafting materials, Transmutation Charges, weapons, armor, skill points and more. In our December PvP rewards blogpost, we hinted at a new system in PvP that will allow you to set your own reward goals to work toward.

There is also a rotating schedule of dungeon Reward Tracks that will allow you to play PvP to earn rewards from specific dungeons. Every two weeks, a different dungeon Reward Track will become available to players. These award weapons, armor, and dungeon tokens among other things."
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/pvp-reward-tracks-and-gear-unification/

There’s nothing unique left in this game. Sure, you could earn dungeon skins in pvp before, but they stayed in pvp and they denoted dedication to pvp. Now, You can earn dungeon skins in pvp to use in pve too.

There are no more skins that show “I like this part of the game” or “This is what I’ve done / accomplished, specifically.” Nothing is special / specialized anymore. Sigh.

What do you guys think?

hi Chris, first of all thank you so very much for taking the time to talk to us, it means the world to me.

The effort you are outing into this “protect” of creating a stable bridge of communication with the community is very important!

I will do my best to give clean feedback to you guys (although I sometimes get out of line)

Its just a shame that it took over a year for the construction of this bridge to start… Why not do this from the start? I’m mainly a PvP player and the pvp community in this game is unfortunately diminishing fast… I just wish you can do something about it fast and hope that it isn’t to late…

How bout the fact that SAB was released at the same time as ascended weapons?!
JF put so much work into this content and it shows. SAB probably took more time to make than all the other Living Story content combined. It might not be perfect, but most of the problems have been fixed. It certainly deserved to have two weeks devoted to it SOLELY without other distractions like new gear grind. And tomorrow, we’re gonna get even more new content running concurrently. THAT is the real problem.

gw2 might have the worst dungeon

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: DungeonDaughter.7391

DungeonDaughter.7391

I would recommend running COE a few times. It’s probably the most fun dungeon because mobs don’t spam abilities that make you lose control of movement.

I’ve run all the dungeons multiple times, so I’m just going to tell you what I think is FUN, not what I think is easy or difficult. I’m too jaded to care about what is challenging or not. I just want to have a good time at this point. And yes, I do consider a fair challenge to be fun.

AC is not particularly fun because of all the mob knockdowns. There are ways around it by using stability and stun breaks, but their attacks will keep coming when all your skills are on cooldown. It’s still not exactly a fun place to be, whether anyone considers it an easy or hard dungeon.

CM is also not a very fun place to be because of bosses that spam knockdowns.

TA is not especially fun because of all the poison plants, although they are good to rally off of. Just like knockdowns, they will hinder your freedom of movement and be frustrating to new players who are not expecting a small flower to kill them.

SE is okay, but p1 is too short and p2 is too long. P3 is the way to go. Farming p1 would be a good way to gear up for WVW, because ptv stats are good for it.

COF is easy and people farm p1. Get your quick ppc gear here.

HotW is fun enough, but the bosss’ HP is way too high. Start with p1. P2 and p3 have more under-water content than what most people wanna do.

COE is pretty fun because the mobs are challenging enough, but not super annoying. And Alpha is a pretty fun boss I think. There are also some parts that take group coordination. And LASER-JUMPING! Yep it’s the most fun dungeon in the game.

Arah is fun enough, but p1 and p4 can take some time. Start with p3. Lupi is probably the best boss in the whole game. The only real issue is mobs spamming conditions which is annoying to the point where everyone skips them.

At least they’re account bound, so they don’t affect the TP market. But these “limited” sales do spike the gem price when buying with gold, and that does kinda suck. But on the bright side, most people aren’t gonna be suckers for too long, so certain business practices will have to change once their revenue is all dried up.

Laurels via Achievement Points

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DungeonDaughter.7391

DungeonDaughter.7391

@DungeonDaughter – although I agree with you about allowing each character to earn a daily reward; it’s doubtful Anet will allow it.
It would seem that it’s fair that if a player does the daily on each character that they should each be rewarded for the time put in.
Ie. Someone plays 10hrs in two days gets rewarded equally to someone playing 10hrs spread over 10 days. BUT there will always be the Min/Max crowd that would create alts just to give themselves the ability to exploit the laurel rewards. I don’t know what the max amount of alts is but if they allowed this, someone would find out just for the sole purpose of getting max laurels (though it would benefit Anet at 800gems per extra slot).

What would the fix be? Soulbound laurels and get rid of of sellable stuff from laurel vendors like dyes and armor/weaps and t6 mats? I’m not even sure. Things have gotten too complicated, and your post makes it even more clear that there is no way in kitten that they’re handing out laurels for achievement points. It was a nice idea though.

Laurels via Achievement Points

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DungeonDaughter.7391

DungeonDaughter.7391

I mean, the daily and monthly achievements can already be done on any character — and laurels are account-wide — yet, still they are somehow “anti-alt.” And, of course, you also get jugs of karma and mystic coins, which are also transferable between characters. I don’t know how much more alt-friendly they could have possibly made this.

The reason why people would argue that the laurel system is anti-alt is because laurels are account bound. It might be alt-friendly in that you can gain the laurel with one character and spend it on another, but it’s anti-alt because you will only be getting one laurel per day per account — no matter how many characters you have.

For laurels to be alt-friendly, daily achievements themselves would need to be able to be achieved per character and not per account. As it stand right now, you need 30 laurels for an amulet. That would take 30 days. If you have one alt, it will take 60 days to outfit both instead of 30 days to outfit both. If you have two alts, it will take 90 days to outfit all three instead of 30 days to outfit all three.

Top gear is now time-gated, and time-gated per account and not per character. Back when exotic gear was top gear, you could outfit all your characters at your own pace, but now you are hard-limited as to what pace you can gain your equipment and that pace is lengthened per day, instead of how long you work, based on how many characters you have. That’s why this game has become anti-alt.

Sure you can argue that top gear is not necessary, but this is an mmo and people don’t want to get left behind.

i’m skeptical that they’ll give out laurels based on achievement points, even though they said they would, simply because it would crash the economy with a huge influx of dyes and rare and exotic armor and weapons, ectos, t6 mats. it wouldn’t be pretty.

but if they do give out laurels, it will be in little bursts, like if you qualify for 100 laurels, you’ll probably be given them at a rate of 5-10 per month over the course of a year or two…. you know…. to keep you playing.

Guild rush requires 80.
Guild challenge requires 150.
Guild puzzle requires 250 merits.

Guild bounty is the only mission type that does not require merits to unlock.

I think Subject Alpha needs some work

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: DungeonDaughter.7391

DungeonDaughter.7391

The main problem with Alpha is that all 5 members need not to mess up. If even just one member gets downed, it can cause a domino effect of others going down while trying to get him up. Alpha’s hp was never the problem. His hits are just very hard, and now with no wp rushing, his hits are a little too hard to be balanced for a group of random players playing random classes.

It is still, ultimately, a learn to play issue, but expecting all 5 members to play perfectly is kind of unreasonable. There needs to be a little more slack given.

Arah Vet here to help you with Arah runs

DungeonDaughter.7391

Hey Mystry,

There tends to be about 4 types of players in this game. You have the ones who don’t do great but at least try and don’t complain. You have the ones who don’t do that great and blame everyone else. You have the ones who do well and complain about everyone else. And you have the ones who do well and understand that different people are at different skill levels, and therefore are willing to teach. The middle two would be the elitists— one deserving, and one not.

Obal would be the last kind of player, which has been well-established by everyone’s post here vs. yours.

His prerequisites are not unreasonable. Just like you need to buy textbooks for class, you need to be geared well for Arah Explore mode. Arah Story is a little easier.

And that being said, since lots of people need to do Arah Story to finish their personal storylines, and because your run with 2 full passive signet warriors with no ranged weapons went so well, why don’t you start holding regular Arah Story runs? People will love you for it.

Then after your post gets 150 or so replies thanking you, Obal can come and tell you how much of an elitist you are. Of course he wouldn’t do that, but I’ll be happy to one day

any advice for someone approaching level cap

in Guardian

DungeonDaughter.7391

There’s a reason why people complain about ranger and minion necro, and that’s because pet ai is not so good in this game. If you’re using spirit weaps, you’re pretty much a heavy ranger with the same bad pets and less control over them, wasting skill slots. But by ditching spirit weaps, you get your skill slots back, AND you also don’t have to drop 30 trait points in the worst trait line guard has (zeal). And if you’re really only going to use spirit hammer, is it really worth it to spend 30 trait points on one skill?

I promise you, direct damage is the way to go. Those mindless (although awesome looking!) pets usually run around behind you while taking forever to catch up, and by the time they hit your target once or twice, they’ll be on cooldown.

Use a shout or two and get some retaliation, might, fury, or another free Aegis. If you’re completing Orr, you can use F3 and Retreat, get aegis twice and grab a commune-type skill point solo without even engaging the champ that guards it.

There’s not much room to experiment with guardian while still being effective.
There’s a reason why everyone uses 0/15/30/20/5, or 0/10/30/30/0, or 0/5/30/30/5 or 0/0/30/30/10. You can get power from other sources, and zeal is only good for spirit weaps, which in turn are good for nothing. It’s true. I’ve tried it for a while; I thought spirit weapons looked really cool, but I wish they had a lot more to offer.

We’ve all experimented so that you don’t have to. I’m not trying to discourage you from playing how you want, it’s just that spirit weaps (other than maybe shield of avenger) are the absolute best way to gimp yourself. Please, for the love of yourself, pick ANY other skills; they will be better — even signets for solo play.

On the bright side, you can experiment with weapons pretty well.

Okay I went off on a tangent. As far as gear goes, don’t worry about rares ever. I don’t think I’ve worn any rare armor. I used those cheaper karma armors from cursed shore when i hit 80. They’re masterwork and run about 1000 karma a piece I think? I don’t remember. Then slowly switch them out for exotic pieces, whether you get em from dungeons or crafting, or TP. For guardian, go with PTV or TPP or PPC in order from best survivability to best damage. I wouldn’t worry about stats too much until you get exotic armor. But condition damage for guard is pretty useless.

250 ectos to infuse a backpiece too expensive

And why don’t we talk about INFUSIONS too?
250 passion fruits (25 copper each), 20 mystic coins (17 silver each), 50 philosopher’s stone (can’t give a price to skill-points, but they are all time spent ingame), 100 tier 6 materials (let’s say… 10 silver each)… To get +5 to one stat?!
Guys, be serious… 14 golds for +5 to one stat?!
Let’s suppose you have 1200 power… +5 it’s a 0,4% increment!
Ridiculous…

If you think the current cost is bad, these infusions used to cost 50 skillpoints each. Now they cost 5, which is much more reasonable.

The cost of infusions was cut by 90%, just like how one piece of non-purely-cosmetic armor should cost 7g (25 ectos) at most — instead of 70g (250 ectos) if it can only be bought with gold.

@ Aragorn

I’m on fractals 41, so I’m in about the same place you are. I have appropriate ag res, I’ve made tons of gold too. But I still stand by my post. There needs to be a method to infuse backpieces based purely on time, and not just money made from spending time — like dungeon tokens.

And off-topic but slightly relevent: The commander tome is the biggest farce they’ve put in the game. Now that is something that needs to be bought with time and not gold at all. Just think: a WvW-only item bought with a currency that you don’t even make in WvW since it’s virtually impossible to get rich in there. Talk about a mis-step.
You have to farm PVE to become a leader in WvW. You can be a commander when you first step foot in WvW if you want.

Now back on topic:

Gold should not be the only route to get items. Gold can be bought with gems.
Time cannot.

where I disagree with everyone is the 2nd upgrade to make it glow, this should not be 250 ecto as it gives you nothing more than a skin, the upgrade to infused being 250 gives you AR so it is justifiable, but the just make it glow for 250 is a bit much.

I understand your line of thinking, but paying 70g for stat increases is approaching the dangerous territory of Pay-to-Win; whereas, paying another 70g for the sparkly skin is Pay-to-Look-Good which is why people are okay with it.

There are already really expensive skins, like T3 armor or Foefire weaps, or Anomaly or Vision of the mists, but none of these items have superior stats to other exotic items that can be had for much cheaper.

70g IS a lot of money to a lot of people. Stats should not be available only to the people who can afford it. Stats need to be available to everyone. And it’s a win for everyone, because you’ll never have to carry “poor” people because of a stat disparity.
