Now, I don’t generally see better eles because the class is so easy to play and offers no incentive to get better, but hey, that’s what this game is about now. #celewars2 for the next 6 months until feature patch 3.
Well I am not active anymore, but when I was I didnt play Meta.
And I can tell you in normal matches I never had problems with Eles playing Meta-Builds. I ripped them apart usually. I even stood my ground against some hambows prior to feature patch 1.
Ofc Im not talking about top 5 eles or something. Whoever top X-anything is cause the Leaderboards do not tell you that.
But honestly the current celestial meta build relies mostly on active healing.
You wreck up the timing once, you can are easily killed.
You are melee, the only way for you to get some dmg is stacking might, you have the smallest base life pool, you have light armor.
As for “easy” to play, in my guild there were ppl playing Ele as well.
just 3 examples:
1) mains thief, logged in with ele in PvP sometimes, said he will play thief again, cause he feels too squishy as ele
2) mains warrior …. plays warrior in PvP cause its more convenient
3) mains ele, mesmer , plays mesmer in PvP cause its more convenient for her/him
Yes – It is dead.
After WTS, I don’t think they’ll even support sPvP anymore. They’ll probably even remove it eventually. It would probably be for the best if they did that and focus on WvW or PvE which still has some sort of life.
deleting it would at least be consequent
And another person is leaving this game, and a great poster as well.
I feel you, I dont play the game anymore as well.
Depends on the situation, if far is not protected, decapping should be okay, cause the enemy takes much longer.
But I dont think there is a general answer to that, but to get some map awareness.
I need to mention Im not an active player atm due to a certain PvP map and other things.
I am german and I played with an English Client right from the start. (Pre-Release-weekend) So before Megaservers were introduced.
Now you might ask why.
Well one reason has already been mentioned, most of helping sites , guides etc etc are in English, that was in every MMO like this and will probably always be.
The second reason are translation errors, in some other MMOs I experienced translation errors that were that bad, that Skill descriptions in german were just wrong.
And ppl that played the german client, always thought the skill was useless or didnt work as intended or whatever, but the only thing that didnt work as intended was the translation.
Or another example the word power got translated into “Macht” and “Kraft” and depending on what skill or trait, it got just randomly translated. And some ppl got very confused with that, when depending were it appeared, the skill had a different name.
BUT I had still chosen to play on a German Server at release.
And then the Megaserver System got released, so my client was english, so I would have had to switch everytime.
And while most of the time I wrote English, sometimes I wrote german as well.
The fundamental flaw there is in the Mega-Server System, there were several German , French and English Servers.
Is the Server Population really THAT low, that fusing e.g. all german servers, the maps would still be empty?
(edited by Duran.3196)
When I was still active I hard countered most thiefs witzh zerker D/D Ele, did they change anything in the last 2 months?
@Harbringer right^^
to frenks initial post:
1)
as some ppl mentioned, the queueing-system is horrible, takes an eternity to take in where you have to have your game maximized and sitting directly in front of you PC waiting for the prompt, no proper confirmation system
2)
My main for example is Ele, while I do have other classes and while I basically do know the builds for them (or could google them) I dont know the exact rotation, the flow of skills if you want so.
So I could swap, but would be weaker by then.
3)
valid point
But there I would have to scold you, because you SoloQ in TeamQ!
But if you think about it points 1 and 3 of Frenk perfectly reveal the WEAKNESSES GW2 PvP has (not all of them though):
- The Matchmaking
- The Leaderboard
- ppl being forced from SoloQ to TeamQ (due to various reasons, map rotation as well)
- the Queueing-System
- several other things
And due to that the playerbase of PvP became pretty low (I dont know how else long queueing times + horrible matchup exists, except that the queueing system is bad beyond imagination)
Well I have to admit, I dont play the game atm anymore, I stopped playing 3 weeks before the feature patch, as I read what was addressed and what was not.
And I probably wont return in the next 1/2 year or something, maybe never, at least not until I read Skyhammer will be removed from SoloQ.
But I doubt anything has changed in those about 2 months.
28 pages of “Please remove this kitten map once for all” still Anet decided to ignore all of us.
But but but …. the silent majority likes that map, its even their favourite.
I mean Anet didnt make an official poll about it and the only clue what ppl think about it is that mega thread.
But Anet KNOWS the majority just looooooooves the map.
I just made a post about how valid points are ignored, trying to be as polite as possible.
Got instantly removed for “infraction”, nice one, and if this post is seen as another infraction, honestly infract me all you want.
Ive lost faith in the game anyway, not really playing for 3 weeks again, and not thinking about returning, even permaban from GW2 wouldnt bother me anymore.
At least then I could finally put a lock before it saying “Okay case closed”.
You are ignoring the fact that the biggest noob can easily kill someone on this map that is way better. You just see people nowadays trying to pull you on a platform, and if it did not work because of for example stability they run off, trying it again when the cd runs off. It is even boring to play. You can try to learn the mechanics as you say, but you can also just dislike the mechanics. Which the majority does. More whining about this map than about Capricorn says enough, many people liked Capri while they still removed the map. There is no reason to keep skyhammer then.
That!
I already told that story once but one day when I played on skyhammer (hot join)
There was a thief in enemy team, for that, if you not had permastability you needed 3 ppl to bring him down.
Why?
He skilled full tanky , with lots of invisibility and Scorpion-Wire.
That thief did nothing else but scorpion wire ppl down, and WHEN he was visible he was tanky enough to survive till next invis, cause in fight it was always 1on1 even if you go to that spot 2v1, one was instagribbed down already.
He did that at our close. We had no guard, close was lost and nothing to do against it.
And that thief was really BAD, the next map we clashed at LEAST 7 times.
And every time he didnt run away fast enough i utterly destroyed him.
Okay one time he won against me, because I just defended our close, against another player, so i had everything on CD and 2000 hp left and he managed to backstab me out of his invisibility and even then he still almost died by doing it.
On any normal map that guy was one of the worst thiefs Ive ever met.
But on Skyhammer he was dominating a whole team.
Food for thought!
(edited by Duran.3196)
Was not sure I would open a new post for it, but now I’m posting it here so that hilarious vid gets a deserved bump.
Well I got several friends to buy GW2 on release
(unlike me they didnt play GW1, cause you could not jump^^ lol)
But you know what happened?
Because they were all veteran MMO players they left after a month, cause by then they were full exotic due to dungeon runs.
They found dungeons much too easy and were bored to the lack of end game content.
Now before that patch I wanted to get them back to GW2 sometimes and I got the following statement from them:
“You know leveling in GW2 was the best leveling experience Ive ever had in ANY MMO, but once you hit lvl 80 youve got nothing interesting to do”
So what now?
You didnt really add end game content (besides fractals… okay…. lol)
AND
You destroyed the best leveling experience that was out there, the only real PRO for your game, that was still remaining, okay maybe the combat System , ohhh wait you cant use the combat system to its real extent before lvl 40 now.
(edited by Duran.3196)
Aside from the obvious /sarcasm, this is one thing they have said they wont bring over, various times.
look at the promises they have already broken, you still have faith in that?
Warrior – over-nerfed
Ranger – over-buffed
Engineer – turrets weren’t fixed
Ele – needed nerf, got buff
Thief – got bugged (fixed)
Necro – got bugged
SUCH BALANCE
Dont know about that,
got Ele main , full burst D/D (works so much better for me than celestial, celestial I always lose [maybe just a training issue, but dmg feels so meehhhh], full burst I win >70% of 1on1 and can deliver deceisive dmg in teamfight, playing that build since ele was underpowered)
Werent the only real buffs Ele received, that 2 GM traits that were as bad as adepts before patch?
Well I dont care anymore, have willingly stopped playing GW2 3 weeks before the “Bug Patch” (and dont come me with its not a bug its a feature)
Saw the Changes in Rdy Up and Co, felt no urge to return to this game.
Logged in for one game after patch and one game yesterday, still feel no urge to return, the things they addressed in the patch destroyed my last hope in that game, showing me the developers really try to get without a compass through the desert.
The only thing I still do and making much more fun than playing the game is griefing in the forum.
Let’s sum this up for PvP:
-still no new game modes
-still a lot of bugs
-still a lot of imbalance in this game (maybe even more to the new bugs)
-hotjoin will remain 4vs5
-even SoloQ often 4vs5 (and still huge queue times and bad matchmaking, probably due to the low PvP population)
-Commander Tags now visible in PvP …. lawl
-Skyhammer still in SoloQ
-many more
Maybe I should play GW1 again, which is a good game, this one (GW2) gets FUBAR more and more.
Making it easier is way better:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-On3Ya0_4Y
so hilarious , especially with that fine british accent
watching that vid is so much better than playing the game
“downed skill 2 unlocked”… oh dear god…
Thats just what I thought….
Never wanted to level an alt, well took a break from the game for about a game, but the more I read about the feature patch the less it makes me want returning.
So for all new players I can just say s*** to be you.
I never understood keyfarming at all.
The chests are crap.
Honestly, i bought a 5 pack back in time when gem-conversion was still 30 silver → 100 gems.
Even at that ingame gold conversion I wouldnt buy em anymore.
So why should I waste time farming them?
I just ignore the posts of Apparition from now on, I thought about it why it always made me angry reading his posts, now I know why, cause he said out loud what was always present in his posts:
1. Only I am right and only my points count
2. Everything everyone else says is wrong and just QQ, noone else has valid points, and if they point out valid points they are not valid and if there is a proper explanation I just ignore it still stating noone else has valid points.
must be nice to live in ones own dreamland….
ah and I think calling ppl like ostricheggs a bad player is ….. ambitious
limit max amount of might stacks in pvp (only), problem solved
I would even go that far to say, limit every boon and condition to 15 Stacks (in PvP only).
ducks away
where did anet get the idea that majority of the people like this map?!
I explained it already:
The majority = the team in charge of developing the map, not able to admit that they did a bad job + the pinball trollbuild players enjoying this map
The Minority= everyone else
The easiest solution would be making an official survey you only can access via account (in order to hinder ppl to vote several times, or at least restricting it to one vote per bought game).
Best thing would even be doing that for ALL maps, especially new maps that eventually get implemented in the future, like this PvP would REALLY improve.
(edited by Duran.3196)
If you are too lazy to explain YOUR points.. why even post?
I explained them several times, and I wont write an essay every post.
In short there is a fundamental difference between competitive maps and so considered “fun” maps.
And in any other “esports”-orientated fun maps are not part of the cycle of competitive maps, okay GW2 has so few maps that the rotation is already very small.
If for example you played dota in any ladder you usually dont play -ardm -wtf
in lol you usually dont play aram in ladder.
In CS you usually do not play on jump maps etc etc etc.
Skyhammer is a map full of unavoidable instakill moves, that favourizes some classes to a very unnatural extent, while leaving certain other classes completely out.
I think the 4 things Kito mentioned are really good and basic ones that can be applied to every game mode.
I think the most important thing with it are accustic signals, that suggest: HEY LOOK ON YOUR MINIMAP!
To be honest I cant stand the announcer, cause hes bubbling * I already know all the time, cause I always have my right eye on the minimap if not in a fight (even then from time to time), so I see when a point is captured or not.
But what I dont see properly on the map is for example in legacy of the foefire if the lord is attacked, and I dont want all the babbling from the anouncer just for hearing that one thing, would be nice to solve this with some pings as well.
The “Problem” with Scepter is in my opinion not the strength of the weapon but the difficulty to use it properly.
Ive seen very powerful scepter Eles in PvP, though i rarely see any scepter Eles.
Actually the most powerful Ele builds I’ve seen so far were scepter Eles
(…) Explain.
You wrote now , you want an explanation in 2 close up threads.
That reminds me so much of my nephew having a phase where he tended to annoy his parents questioning every single one of his parents decissions/orders whatever with the “spamming” : “explain?!”
In this thread there are enough proper and detailed explanations why this map should not be in SoloQ.
If you are too lazy to seek them out, cause this has become such a megathread I cant help you.
Make fun of me pleasee. D;
You no-real-life NEET!
In Vee Wees thread there is, at least, finally an answer.
Skyhammer: Obligatory “Nothing is off the table”. (except deleting skyhammer)
I dont afk on skyhammer as well, that is because I dont play ranked in GW2 anymore.
In fact I wont play for the next 2 weeks, because on hand I have to pass and important and hard test and on the other hand, hearing the things getting patched destroy even my hopes that something in PvP is really getting better.
I am Ele main, and that map just ruins my day if it pops in a queue, the only “cheesemode” skill you have as D/D is updraft.
Unfortunately the ppl I usually play TeamQ with are rarely online all together.
But honestly I cant blame those AFK ppl as well. That topic existed for quite a long time. The Thread has over 1200 entries. And there was no response.
So some ppl are not only a little upset, but downright frustrated, so these kind of actions seem only natural to me.
As I am running plain stupid 6/6/2/0/0, zerker amulett, rune of strength, and doing quite well in PvP (mostly hot join though, but players in SoloQ often are not that much harder) I can only wait for these GM trait buffs.
As I am using blinding ashes atm anyway, thats gonna be a huge buff for that build, and ill consider taking that air as well.
Though I think if applied on every burning tick, blinding ashes might get really OP for a class that does nothing else but burning AoE in fire.
On the other hand I think Fire Trait Line needs such a massive buff, if they really want to get ppl out of Arcane/Water Combination without getting ppl entirely out of that class (if you know what i mean).
Hmm… did anyone notice the “no changes to focus & scepter” segment? So far most classes got underused weapons slightly buffed (e.g. Ranger main hand axe), but all our changes happened at the utility skills (with the probably unintended nerf to Burning Speed and Retreat).
Well the reason of S/F is underused is rather that it is more sophisticated than being underpowered I think.
At least in PvP most Elementalists i met using S/F or S/D (okay they are very rare) were rather strong.
One could keep 3 ppl busy with 0/2/4/2/6 or something like that.
Well the only problem for the Moa’d one is that he suddenly is confronted with different set of skills, but thats the only thing, once you know how to control moa-form, that skill is incredibly weak
They said a lot of people like it and some don’t like it.So i’m wondering
a lot of people = the anet team thats so proud of their developed map
some ppl = at least 3/4 of the community part that expresses itself in the forum
it’s incredibly satisfying killing a mesmer with their own elite XD
That!
With my Ele I usually love as well when a mesmer moas me.
Cause most of the Mesmers using Moa are bad (at least to a very much higher percentage than the mesmers without it, Id say 80% of the MOA mesmers you usually encouter are noobs) and this skill pretty much assures me, the enemies skill level is below mine.
So the very moment I get MOA’d I start attacking him and its a really rare occurance that this doesnt work.
in pve, a new exploit allows for players to earn gold faster than they should,
in pvp, players have been exploiting spectator and team select for 5 months.blix has already had a dev response stating that a fix is coming next patch.
spvp has’nt had any such luxury.so anet…
do we really need to get your precious economy involved before you’ll fix exploits?
is there honestly no change coming to spectator/team select next patch?!edit: for anyone who came here just to point out that you don’t play hot join, or say that “its just hotjoin” just don’t bother, i’ve rebutted that over and over.
and the answer? hotjoin should be FUN, its not about winning or losing but the enjoyment of the match, as it used to be back in the haydays of 8v8 before team select and spectator.
there is nothing fun about exploiters rigging every match into a one sided spawn camp.
To defend Anet for once, spectator “exploit” got a response (no solution though).
The only real problem about blix is the toxicity from BOTH sides, and according to the post thats the main reason they address this.
ppl go there to intentionally complete the event, not because they want to complete it themselves but in order to stop the farm zerg and then , when they succeed in doing so they mimimi. In fact I do not think that it is a real exploit.
But what really annoys me is there, the spectator mode abuse (I wouldnt really call it exploit in the sense its meant in games as well), causes toxicity as well and directly damages players. Still cause its PvE gets addressed first
They nerfed Queensdale and Frostgeorge to unplayable. What u guys expect. We stand still. We will just move on even if it is blix. And blix is not an exploit.
If A-Net nerfs everything farmable we will find ways to earn Gold.
Well the fastest way to get ingame money already is: “DONT PLAY THE GAME AND GO WORK INSTEAD”
At a salary of 7€ per hour thats already about 60G per hour, dont know anything in the game that gets even close to that.
Except maybe playing the market if you know what you do, or rather botting the market (I’m pretty sure marketbots exist in this game)
lol…more survivability to necros…because 2 healthbars, and then a super form, wasnt enough
exactly that^^
Just wanted to write something about it myself.
If there is really ONE aspect the necromancers are NOT lacking its survivability.
The Problem is the following:
First the holy trinity (penitent , shelters gate , jorfast) was farmed, then general loot was nerfed in Orr, Orr died out.
Then they introduced Champ Bags, guys figured out how to Scale events, Orr was alive again.
Then Anet introduced Elite Mobs and increased CD on direct (not retake events),
Orr died out till ppl figured out that retake events CD was not nerfed (cause noone did them before, cause the actual events happened).
So last time they already nerfed champ Bags in terms of money.
So the initial reason for increasing the events CD is not given (at least to that extent it was) anymore.
And what are they doing now?
Right instead of buffing the original events again to make them worthwhile and nerfing blinx just a little, guess what will happen, blinx CD is gonna be nerfed into oblivion and the other events get no buff.
The outcome?
Except for the champ farm train Orr is gonna be dead again, cause now that there are Megaservers you dont event know when the temple events are starting (the other still enough rewarding events to go there)
I guess ppl wont look down there just to look if by any chance an event that happens every 2 hours might be actually running atm.
a pile of bloodstone dust
I see a lot nerfs incoming again…
The only GM trait improvement Id really wish for is Fire (blind skill) CD being on target and not global.
Ah and did you look up Necro?
They will increase his survivability, not that it isnt already hard for an Ele to kill a necro if he has half deathshroud loaded.
if you can play S/F Ele, thats a funny thing, well I cant, cause cant get warm with scepter.
Can be extremely strong.
But saw power Necros with Lich Form that ruled pretty well too.
Then again as ele I have to say do that ele.
(A) Guild Wars 1 is over a decade old now, no wonder it’s tournament videos have half a million hits after years of the player base buying new PCs, moving locations and having different IPs when they log in to Youtube to stack total views of these videos
The number of views just adds up over the years
GW2 videos will be no different in time(B) Twitch is new and not many use it yet
Everyone including my mom, your mom and everyone’s grandma, uses Youtube
You’re also comparing Twitch live hits to Youtube all time views “over years”© We live in the era of the First Person Shooter
This draws the bulk majority of younger gamers away from MMORPGs
When we were young, it was the era of the MMORPG
And that is why GW1 had a larger pvp community
That same community that grew up with MMORPGs is still present
But they are older now and don’t have nearly as time to log in as they used to
GW2 in comparison to other “current” MMORPGs, is clearly the leader in it’s genre
In fact, all other games try to copy GW2’s engine as of late(D) Nothing is wrong with GW2’s pvp engine
And comparing it to GW1’s engine is like comparing your adulthood to your childhood
Because that’s exactly what you’re doing
Let go of the nostalgia and stop taking for granted what newer games have to offer
A) still has more viewers unless there is a 300 views per viewer on average, and id like to see WHEN it got those views, I guess a lot of them were in the first month.
I guess it wont get that many views over the time.
Just to mention in GW1 u could watch the matches as well without youtube.
B)
Afaik a lot of ppl watch things on twitch, of course youtube has much more viewers,
but concerning esport matches … wont make a difference in the future i guess , cause didnt google buy twitch or sth?
C)
I doubt it. CS 1.6 was 1999.
maybe rather the age of MOBA .
And proof for everyone trying to copy it, name the games.
D)
the opposite around GW1 in a esport sence was more mature than GW2 is.
GW in that case is something like …. benjamin button
I know that one really can try hard to defend something one thought to be really great.
I did it too a long time, maybe its some kind of self defence.
I brought around 5 ppl to play GW2 when it was released, they all said uhh no not GW1 you cant jump there.
So I told em hey come GW2 and sent them the vids the developers published.
They came, they leveled to 80, they said it was the nicest leveling they ever had in any MMO and that was it, they reached lvl 80, they left one month after launch.
Why? Cause there was no end game content for any REAL mmo player.
I played 2 months, then made a 6 months break.
After I came back a got into the guild i am now, and this guild is atm the only last string that ties me to this game.
I do play pvp but only hot joins atm, cause pvp is a fast way to get your dailies, pvp certainly does not tie me to this game atm.
I am for over a year now at the point were I just point out my frustration instead of trying to defend what is not to be defended.
generally GW2 combat is not fun to watch, cause there are so many shiny sparkling skill effects, that everything exceeding 1v1 is really hard to analyze.
But I think its too late now, cause a lot of ppl that would have brought potential to the pvp scene already left.
In order for the PvP to have been top notch, the preparations should have been made pre release or at least in the first 2 months.
@Arr Dee
thought he was a moron at first as well (though might not be that far away from it still) and some kind of troll.
but reading his comments I more and more came to like his way to think.
Now strangely enough Im always imagining a engineer in a Wooldoor Sockbat-ish kind of way, with his text being read with wooldoors voice in my head lol^^.
At least his comments cast a smile on my face again everytime i think about what could be better .
What about the new PvP reward Track?
How about packing a 2 weeks PvP bank Token into the Final chest or something.
Something like that.
Now that Glory has been phased out this seems to be the easiest way to implement.
As for the argument that WvW isnt always accessible, the problem there is, that this basically discriminates ppl on servers with high WvW activity, just saying.
(edited by Duran.3196)
If you were in my team, I guess I would hate you.
Watching it on twitch however, I cant stop laughing.
If at least it would work together with updraft or something.
knockdowns etc
Solution: play Team Q.
Trust me, people in Team Q mostly know what they’re doing compare to Solo Q.
So if you can win middle for the team, the chance of winning increases quite abit.
Aside from some occasional pre-made, most matches are rather fair.
Yeah and thats the problem, TeamQ should be reserved for Premade.
I only play TeamQ, but when I do an organized one with my guild.
Unfortunatly that rarely goes together since its a small guild.
I have to mention we may not be the best by individual skill but still I have >70% Win rate and some of them were training matches where I taught them the maps and timers cause it was their first game(they were PvE only before). But having Teamspeak running, telling ppl what to do covers up more than the "lack"of individual skill.
If you can even talk about “lacking of skill” considering even the skill of an average TeamQer.
And the 70% are easily done, cause you face unorganized SoloQers most of the time.
(edited by Duran.3196)
Someone in the german forums described it well:
GW2 is like elevator music, its not interesting but doesnt hurt as well.
What would really keep me would be PvP,
but PvP received no love and thus the population is low and because there are very few players the updates for PvP are very rare, once maybe twice a year making the population even lower, but just look at the PvP Forums.
Ah and I almost got a shock looking into german PvP forums a few days ago, where the NEWEST post was made 12 days ago.
Oh my ….
You didnt do the Cartographer Titles in GW1 did you? I mean without tools!
SoloQ is on one level with hot joins.
No, wait , in hot joins I meet good ppl with experimental builds, you are not used to fight against.
Today I talked to someone that bragged about his score (though other players in his team were clearly better) and I tried to tell him, that personal doesnt neccessarily
correlate with team-score-contribution.
His argumentation was “if it wouldnt, personal score wouldnt be there to measure it”
Was like talking against a wall.
The Discussion ended with him asking me wether I’m dumb or something.
(edited by Duran.3196)
Leaderboard broken anyways, who cares?
If I had no empathy for you I’d write “First Worlds Problems”
but like this I have to say:
I understand your pain!
IMO, the real reason for Blix failtrain is not just simple loot issue; after all, success at Blix opens up the Shelter defense event, which is also pretty popular farming spot and doesn’t require resorting to dubious methods. The issue is, failed Blix event repeats like every 5 minutes, while it takes way longer for Shelter defense thing. It’s also worth mentioning (for those that weren’t playing back in the day) that “camp defense” events (all three of them) used to happen much more often; back then I NEVER saw Blix up at all, Shelter’s Gate was always active. Always. This was changed due to what Anet felt was excessive farming, so now that old method is long dead and buried. Seems Blix trick is just a recent way around those limits.
oh well good Ol’ holy trinity farm……
Personally, I’m in “it’s bad design” camp.
….
In the end, I’d say that whenever something like this happens it’s just a symptom of an issue with particular event/chain. Rewards for failure (be it direct rewards or opening of new possibilities/events) should never be better than rewards for victory, but currently this is the case in Blix scenario, or pretty much every one of temple defense events.
That!
For D/D celestial you need to learn proper rotations.
As for staff:
Good in teamfights if you are not focused, bad if you are.
