Feryl Grimsteel (Charr Engineer)
Tarnished Coast
Feathered Raptors, with dyable feathers.
I came in this thread to suggest this.
The raptor should have feathers.
So is torch the only viable offhand weapon for the axe?
Consisently crashing – not disconnecting – at “Bitter Harvest” once I get to the helix staircase.
I have tried this mission on one character who keeps getting the same crash while going up the helix. I somehow managed to get the mission done on another character who made it up the helix. Optimistic, I tried again with the former character only to crash again. Unless this bug gets fixed, I doubt that my warrior will ever defeat Mordremoth, as they keep getting defeated by stairs.
Soul Reaping was a fairly vital part of reinforcing the fantasy of the Reaper elite specialization, as it was sold, in part, on its ability to camp in Death Shroud. (It was also billed as a power spec.) As such, Vital Persistence and Speed of Shadows contributed greatly to the Reaper’s fantasy.
If it is meant to be frontline support weapon, then why not make it a melee-wielded staff (e.g., Daredevil, Revenant) that also provides some minor heals in its 1 skill, possibly giving skill 1 a skill-chain?
But as it is, I’m not entirely sure how this new guardian staff is meant to be used.
The loss of Vital Persistence and Speed of Shadows was incredibly significant for Power Reapers. When the Reaper was showcased, ANet even indicated that Reapers were created to “camp” death shroud.
I agree that VP and SoS should either be baseline or reworked into the minor traits of Soul Reaping.
Unskilled-Lazy-Suck Guards = How dare you touch my LOOT STICK!
Perhaps, but the staff did not offer much else as a selling point apart from the quickness symbol. It would be nice if the Guardian Staff actually had a more defined playstyle like the druid staff.
As an altoholic, this is a welcome change.
Maybe it’s not in any build on metabattle because it will be released on September 22.
I’m referring to the non-turret heal skills and not the holomancer’s heal, as per the OP’s correct assertion that the holomancer does not address the core engineer problems.
IMO the new heal seems to be actually competitive with Healing Turret.
Is it? Every single engineer build on Metabattle, save one PvP build rated at a 60 rating that uses Elixir H, has the Healing Turret equipped. It’s simply too good to not have. It has far more functionality and healing than the other healing skills.
It would also be nice if we actually had a viable heal other than Healing Turret. It’s both too good and the other options too bad. I don’t like the homogeny between engineers all using this same heal. It doesn’t feel fun.
I would say that all classes can do OW content, including the Guardian.
I have mained Guardian since pre-launch, and I find that my Guardian is one of the best IME for OW content. Our major weakness in OW content is that we are slow AF, requiring either staff or Retreat! shout for roaming. With Hammer protection, aegis, the Virtue of Resolve, along with a number of other traits and skills, we have a LOT more health than meets the eye. We also have consisently good options for condition removal, which ANet now likes to throw at players more frequently in OW since HoT.
My fiancé was skeptical of playing a Guardian alt, since (1) she prefers cloth, (2) they are slow and, (3) they are in the lowest tier of hit points. I reassured her that it does not feel as if you have low HP due to your constant health regeneration. Indeed, once she got used to the Guardian, she told me that she felt surprisingly “tanky.” She rarely goes down. When she does, that heal symbol and knockback has saved her bacon. I have gone down more frequently on my Warrior alt than I have on my Guardian.
It is certainly ironic that for a profession that was billed at release as being good at support and control/soft tanking, the state of the guardian in HoT is that it is subpar in both of these aspects, particularly with the introduction of raiding. My preference would not be for an e-spec to “fix” our problems in these modes, but for Anet to actually address this is in the core guardian profession.
I played last night’s episode with two of my friends who came into GW2 via HoT, and they thought this reveal was a horrible asspull. It was a big “Who? Wait? What the Kitten?” moment for them, as they felt that it had little build-up or clues and all done in a haphazard way. The tone and everything just felt off, poorly delivered, especially since several of us were playing with human characters who were nonplused about the reappearance of one of their gods.
Hopefully the name goes back to the previous leak name of “Purifier,” because “Firebrand” would make the Guardian the consecutive winner of the “Worst E-Spec Name” award.
It seems to be a problem for everyone in Europe today. Hopefully ANet will give us an extended amount of time to buy their exclusive March Madness items if this does not get fixed in time today.
My girlfriend and I are also having this problem here in Austria.
It’s not just about the Bladed Chest, for me at least. There alternate ways of getting the chest piece (i.e. WvW/PvP chest). It’s about the ascended Magister’s Backpack. It requires getting the VB T4 meta. In contrast, the Whisper’s Backpack only requires that one does the regular Tangled Depths Chak Gerant meta.
Mind to give a source? Would like to see it myself.
If that’s true, I hope they decide against it.
I believe it was in an off-hand ANet response to a question about the return of Guardian tomes in a reddit thread. That would require someone far more savvy about finding these things than myself.
It’s more likely Anet would introduce Guardian Tomes as an F5 mechanic like Druid. That way they wouldn’t have to design multiple Tome-Kits, and have 1 button over take the weapon skill slots so there’s no complaint from Engineers on Guards receiving kits and being able to swap between 2 weapon sets.
Perhaps. I’m simply saying that ANet had raised the possibility of bringing back Guardian tomes as kits. So I don’t think we can safely say that kits would never be added to other classes with certainty.
And keep in mind: tomes are NOT kits. They work totally different. They replace your weapon skills, but you are not able to switch out to your normal weapon without losing the tome. The tome itself has a cd. Different mechanics here.
Keep in mind: Regardless of what tomes were or how they operated, ANet had raised the possibility of bringing Guardian tomes back as kits.
I kinda think that the druid’s staff skills are basically what the healing kit should have been.
It would also be nice, though perhaps too much wishful thinking, if ANet swapped pistol skills #3 and #4. That would make the pistol a condi mainhand, with offhand pistol and shield providing alternative means of control.
No other elite spec will ever get kits as its core utility. Too much work to make 5 kits in one go.
This is far too strong of an assertion to reliably make, especially given that the ANet developers had raised the possibility of eventually bringing back Guardian tomes as kits.
Kits were never supposed to be become the core class mechanic. That’s what the tool belt was for.
Never? 1) Engineers do not have weapon-swapping because of the assumed use of kits as a form of pseudo-weapon-swapping. 2) ANet initially developed the toolbelt as a means of partially offsetting the cost of equipping kits in the utility slots. Both these points suggest that kits were always considered the core mechanic, if not central assumption, of the engineer.
To answer your questions in order based on my observations:
- The entire purpose of the suspension (which never actually happened best I could tell) was to flush out the White Mantle infiltrators into acting. They did, we killed them. The rest are likely deemed “loyal enough” in all honesty, now that Caudecus, Estelle, and so many nameless ministers that revolted are dead. Jennah doesn’t seemed to actually enact on her martial law since it did the job of flushing out traitors.
I suspect that the White Mantle attack may have even resulted in the loyal nobles self-imposing martial law or as a means to demonstrate their loyalty as a means of showing consent to royal rule.
New Unlimited Gathering Tool Themes
It will be short: just you. From at least a story perspective, it would be inadvisable to do so.
I can scarcely remember what I posted and when. So I may just be repeating myself here. Gliders are often used as a further extension of the character aesthetic, so gliders should be created that can reflect potentially important aspects of the character.
Organization-Themed Gliders
Racial-Themed Gliders
The Six Gods-Themed Gliders
They will decide their lives mean that he gave the Mursaat power to kill or save his people.
No it doesn’t. Don’t confuse your inability to understand the concept of ‘divine providence’ with an argument.
It all depends what would be involved in getting the title. I consider them on the order of a cool dye …. nice to have but I balance that against the cost/effort.
With “Honorary Skritt” you are basically just looting junk items. But “Honorary Quaggan” could entail collecting something from each quaggan village or giving them something.
Aetherblade Armor please. All armor classes.
The “Honorary Skritt” title is fantastic. But I know a number of people, potentially myself included, who would work to the bone if an “Honorary Quaggan” title existed in the game. How many other people would also work for such a title for one of the other fan favorite “cute races” of Tyria?
Slowpoke, over against anything that you could possibly say, Saul’s reaction strongly suggests otherwise. That is the strongest piece of evidence against your argument.
Saul prayed a prayer to the Unseen Ones out of desperation. His declaration that the Unseen Ones would determine whether they lived or died is not Saul praying for the Unseen Ones to possibly kill them. It’s an appeal to the theological concept of divine providence. It’s about divine intervention. The Unseen Ones choosing not to save them from death does not carry the same moral equivalence as selectively killing them.
Again, it’s not possible to stress enough Saul’s final epiphany on the nature of the mursaat: “And Saul learned to his horror that these new gods were neither good nor kind.”
This revelation comes as news for Saul. His reaction stands in stark contrast with his earlier faithful agreement. What caused the change of heart for Saul? Obviously the killing of his men by the mursaat. Their actions were clearly unexpected by Saul. That suggests that the terms that Optimus Caliph (and the mursaat) laid out were not clear for Saul. That suggests they were not explicit as per your fervent insistence. One can even argue that this was an agreement made under duress and desperation, built upon Saul’s naïve assumption that the mursaat were good and kind. And one has to ask: Do you think that Saul would have agreed to those same conditions a second time?
LS3E4 has caused a lot of commotion in regards to the nature of Queen Jennah and Logan Thackeray’s romantic subplot, and it seemed appropriate to start a thread about it. Is it a retcon? Is this how Queen Jennah has always seen Logan? Where is this subplot heading? Or what are your general thoughts and feelings on this?
Please bring back the Aetherblade armor.
I’ll just say that running the suicide gauntlet for that POI with my friends became a memorable badge of honor and pride for us.
Basically what Konig says.
I guess he had an errand to run during episode 3 and then he brought his posse down for episode 4.
My girlfriend never wanted a legendary… until now. I respect that this legendary will not be for everyone and that there will be people who are inevitably disappointed. Nevertheless, I am happy that there are people excited by this new legendary.
In addition to the usual lists people are making, I would also add WvW Siege blueprints.
Also, as an aside, would it be possible to make some of the other ascended crafting materials sellable/tradable (i.e. empyreal fragments, bloodstone dust, dragonite ore)? Unless one has Mawdrey or the Karka hatchling, these items have practically become bag/inventory/storage spam. So I would like to see these items either sellable or ANet provide some other way to effectively dump these items into something useful.

Aetherblade Armor Skins
While I get secrecy, I would have liked him seperate from the WM, but still using them.
However, that might still be something that will be revealed. That he bought his rank and thought he was in charge.I don’t think he bought his rank, but rather that he joined with no faith and intended to use the order while being within it.
Which in a way does make him separate from the White Mantle – which is why there is a schism happening between the two.
I wonder if he joined the White Mantle relatively recently, rising through their ranks primarily due to his political prominence and noble station. Though it could have happened much earlier, he likely was part of the White Mantle by at least the time of the Order of Whispers story, in which the OoW smuggled his daughter out, with her carrying critical information regarding a treacherous plot. If the OoW knew then the basics of the White Mantle – at least the Caudecaus side of things – then it will be interesting to see how Lady Valette Wi factors into this plot.
I’m personally getting tired of all these “encoded messages” and executioner notices that keep dropping, so I’m ready to be done with this.
I’d join the white mantle queen Jenner is pretty bad at her job with all of her resources she can’t even kill off the centaurs
also a bit of lore for the wise not everyone who is in the white mantle are fanatics some are just ordinary people that are fed up with the countries politics of catering to the elites in DR
A bit of lore for the wiser, a number of those ministry elites in Divinity’s Reach are also precisely the ones who are strongly implied to be supporting the bandits and centaurs and impairing the Seraph (whether knowingly or not for the White Mantle) in order to make Queen Jennah look weak and ineffective. Furthermore, the Seraph do kill the ringleader of the invading centaurs in the Harathi Hinterlands.
Thanks for sharing. Can you, or others, give some examples of items that formerly were offered that you’d like to see again? I’m happy to take your ideas to the dev team!
Thanks.
Would it be possible to get the Chinese New Year ram miniature again? If not, would ANet please consider at least adding a miniature sheep? That way people who bought the ram could still have a unique item, while offering something similar to the miniature ram.
It’s a shame that we can’t assemble our own team much like how we could recruit heroes in Guild Wars 1.
Lore-based gliders:
Miniature Sheep. Yes, there was a miniature ram, but that seasonal miniature is no longer available. So instead of bringing it back – thus keeping it exclusive – make a miniature sheep instead.
