Explain the logic of multimap?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: GreyMouser.1235

GreyMouser.1235

Once I’m done loading into map 1, I switch from group 1 to group 2

Wait, what? You’re not supposed to “load into” map 1 (lobby). You just drag yourself to lobby to switch to an other map (2+) so people don’t join the wrong map.

Example: If you are in group 2 and instantly jump to group 3 without dragging yourself to lobby, then someone who wants to go to 2 will end up in 3 because of you.

I meant that group 1 isn’t really a map group… it’s the lobby right? So that must mean group 2 is map 1? I think you just illustrated my point that the lobby system is a little confusing.

“Map 2” is not referred to as “Map 1,” it’s referred to as “Map 2.” All the map names correspond to the group number.

It’s really quite simple. The process is:
1) Load into map (let’s use #2 as an example).
2) Loot map.
3) Drag icon to lobby (group 1- it’s holding lots of maps, so don’t join on people here). This prevents someone from joining on you, expecting to get into Map 2, and instead going to whatever map you’re about to load into.
4) Join on a character in the next map you want to load into (low-population maps first, please!) Let’s say #4.
5) Drag your icon into your new map group, in this case, #4, so when people want to load into that map, they can use you and go to the expected map.

The lobby is the easiest way to manage things and prevent people from loading into maps they didn’t intend to, as well as (mentioned before) it being the group you always join into when you join a squad, again, so people don’t join on you and go to the wrong map.

Macro Emotes???

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: GreyMouser.1235

GreyMouser.1235

its good can even do one to open stacks of bags and such. you just cant have it so it works like a full bot program. music instruments, emotes, etc are safe. if it plays the game for you like multi skill actions then youre not safe.

incorrect information… it’s explicatively okay with music instruments as their official stance, you can even script and have it be fully automated because it does not affect gameplay, one for opening stacks of bags is not legal as far as I’m aware, as for emotes, you really have to be careful with these things if you don’t have an official stance on the subject, the only thing they’ve allowed macros and automation scripts for is instruments.

That’s not what he was asking. The OP’s question was whether he can assign a [single] emote to a macro key, rather than having to type the emote every time he wants to use it. This does not violate the one key, one action rule, and therefore is legal. If he were to assign a string of emotes to a single macro key, that would violate the one key, one action rule.

Proof of Heroics: Soulbound, really?

in WvW

GreyMouser.1235

I believe they said they want you to earn your new elite specs and stuff by actually playing those characters.

To be honest it isn’t that bad grabbing elite specs, managed to get herald under the HoT launch system by running through all the Tyria maps just doing skill points and grabbing a few WPs. Just need swiftness and maybe a friend who knows the maps well.

Also they didn’t change hero points to shards. They changed skill points to hero points up to the 219(?) and any excess were made into spirit shards which function in pretty much the exact same way for 99.9% of uses.

You realize you’re being pedantic, right? The point is that Arenanet has STOLEN a ton of gametime from thousands of players, simply because they didn’t want people who have been here since launch to have a leg-up on people just starting out. First, they STOLE 200 points from each of my characters by converting skillpoints into shards, which aren’t convertible back into skillpoints. Instead, I have to grind hours to get those hero points back. I ALREADY EARNED THOSE POINTS. OVER A YEAR AGO.

Secondly, they’ve now STOLEN yet more time by making an unannounced change that stopped me from spending my hard-earned Proof of Heroics on whatever I choose to.

This game was founded on the “Play the way you want” principle. Now it’s “Play the way we want you to play, or we’ll take things from you, and you can either take it, or kitten off.”

Okay, Arenanet. Message heard loud and clear. I’m kittening off.

Proof of Heroics: Soulbound, really?

in WvW

Posted by: GreyMouser.1235

GreyMouser.1235

So I’ve been off for a while due to the holiday season and the ramp-up to it, and now I find that the 200+ Proof of Heroics I’ve been acquiring in wvwvw are now not spendable from the bank? My wvw character is maxed out, and I was debating on which character to spend them on when I had to go away. Now I find that the hours I spent grinding in wvw are completely wasted for my other characters.

Tell me again why I’m wasting my time on this game? Every change results in another waste of time. First you steal hundreds of hours of playtime away from me in the form of changing excess hero points (over 400 on my main) into useless shards and give me half of my elite specialization, but you again steal hours of playtime by restricting my Proof of Heroics to the point of not being able to spend them from the bank?

Seriously, why am I playing this game any more?

So, slogging through everything on the forums is becoming a chore. I’m just curious; I had over 1000 skill points on my main prior to the patch, due to endless wvwvw play. Today, I have 200-something Mastery points for my Elite. What happened to those other skill points? Did they convert into something, or did the last several hundred hours of playtime just get erased becuse Arenanet was afraid of me having earned an Elite Specialization without going through the new content?

I didn't get the first login bonus

So to put it succinctly, people who were playing the game during a normal gameplay window on the West Coast on Monday got penalized. People who didn’t play during a normal West Coast gameplay window prior to the next day’s patch are now 1 day ahead in their calendar.

How exactly can Arenanet rationalize this kind of distribution model? I get that if you played in Prime Time on Monday, you might have gotten an extra daily done prior to patching. However, you’ve reset dalies and monthlies prior to this, with no warning, and did nothing with regard to how players were impacted.

I think you need to go back and revert anyone who has been logged in for the last three days, so that everyone has 3 days’ of login rewards, regardless of your “special distribution model.” You’ve caused a lot of hard feelings and confusion among your playerbase, for no real gain whatsoever.

Gwynefyrdd, the Halloween miniature

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: GreyMouser.1235

GreyMouser.1235

If it were tradeable this thread would not exist. That’s the entire problem. Account bound items should be from things you can work for yourself like ascended/legendary gear. Making Gwyn bound would be as stupid as making pre’s account bound. That’s the bottom line. If they only wanted to redistribute wealth having her tradeable would have had the same effect. 400g on a mini via the tradepost would still have put a literal boatload of gold into the hands of the lucky few and some of us idiots would still have been buying bags trying to get her to drop.
I just hate that I busted my kitten for 2 weeks working 20x harder than 99% of the population and have jack kitten to show for it. Yay now I’m broke and I missed all the gem store skins and minis because my gold was squandered on something that has a nearly 100% failure rate.
FYI: From an ANet employee – the real profit from the gem store doesn’t come from gem to gold conversions, but actual gems spent, so they seriously boned themselves with this. The money they make on gems comes from people actually wanting stuff bought with gems, but they effectively killed the entire supply of gold that keeps gem-to-gold transactions going. They nerfed their own gem store sales by making us waste gold on bags that end up making people ragequit the game for extended periods of time. I adore living story and even I’m not sure if I’m going to play the new content this week just because I’m so mad.

I ran around with Erik for a gigantic portion of the event this past 2 weeks, and the amount of work put into this was ridiculous. Personally, I probably farmed about 15k bags, and didn’t get a single tonic, amulet, or Zuzu, never mind Gwynefrdd. Yeah, not as much as Erik, but enough that I’m in GW2 burnout now.

Once the patch hit yesterday, I logged off. I logged back in for 5 minutes today and logged back off. After this Halloween, I have become completely de-motivated, just like Erik. Making the drop super-rare was bad enough, making them account-bound on acquisition is just stupid. If this is the trend of rare items in the future, I’m not going to bother any more.

GreyMouser.1235

It should also be noted that every AAA MMO under the sun uses the same account for forum and game, and that they all offer a secondary method to secure your account, such as an authenticator, e-mail network verification, etc.

If you don’t like the Authenticator, at the very least, enable e-mail verification so that you’re e-mailed with a limited-lifespan link that allows access from a new network. That way you’ll always know if your account has been accessed from another location.

2-factor authentication is a computer industry security standard, specifically due to the high level of security it affords. I can’t imagine a reasonable scenario where someone would refuse to use it, unless you like things being stolen from you.

Unfortunately, you needed to log in during the two weeks that each new chapter of the LS Season 2 storyline was introduced. This was explained in great detail on the website. The fact that your PC was out of commission is a bummer, but not really anything that Arenanet needs to deal with.

The fact that you can go back and pay a small fee for those parts that you missed is a gigantic improvement over LS 1, where you missed it completely if you weren’t on at least weekly.

"Leveling as a Reward" Experience Crippling!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

GreyMouser.1235

Sigh…

No longer can you unlock your first three weapon skills by killing things in the starting area, to have to level to Lv2 and Lv4, meaning you might as well run past everything straight to the boss.

To be fair, once you’ve reached lvl 10 all weapons skills are unlocked for all weapons. Unlocking each weapon skills individually was way more grindier than under this new system. So I don’t understand where peeps are saying this system is more grindier, than the last one. But yes, this new system has lots of problems. If it was implemented correctly, it would have been a better system.

I’ll leave this phrase for you and the vets:

work smarter, not harder

Um, what? You can typically unlock the first three skills on your first weapon just by running around the beginning zone to your objectives. By level 2 and following a couple of hearts, you could have at least one weapon fully unlocked, and at least one more halfway unlocked. In 10 minutes of play. Now, it takes 45 to 50 minutes, if you’re grinding hard. This isn’t working smarter.

Have you ACTUALLY tried leveling a new character? Pre-patch, my keyfarmer always had two weapons fully unlocked by the end of the key storyline, after 20 minutes (and we’re talking about a speed run, not going out of my way to kill things). It took an hour to level them to 10 post-patch, as I wasn’t actively trying to participate in every single event that occurred (leaving me underleveled for most of the hearts after level 5…)

No, it was just one of the myriad things I noticed when I logged in my keyfarmer. However, I’ll argue that Aegis is one of the things that forms the basis of the Guardian concept: a Mystic Knight with mystical defenses. That shield that kept regenerating itself gave my first guardian a lot of flavor. Yeah, it’s not a gigantic thing in retrospect when we look at everything else that was done to the game today; it’s more symptomatic of the ephemeral “magic” that has been progressively beaten out of it.

Suggestion! OOC Elem swapping

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: GreyMouser.1235

GreyMouser.1235

The only thing you’re failing to see is that skills can be used OOC. Speed and other boons can be applied while OOC. You can then switch to your “combat set” while those boons are active and you have no cooldowns on your current weapon set. The entire skill set (which remember an ele has twice as many as any other class except engineer) is “balanced” for whether you’re in combat or not. This is especially true of movement skills and other boon related skills.

It would be nice to develop a way to keep your “preferred” weapons out of your inventory to stop from selling them but as for a weapon swap, I’d be against that.

I would disagree with that. If I manage my inventory and make sure I know where my weapons are going when I switch out my active weapons, then keep the inventory panel sized and arranged so I can quickly double-click the weapons back into my hands, I can do exactly the same thing as if I had an easy GW1-type swap set defined. Therefore, the situation you are describing is already available. It’s just a pain in the kitten to do it, so most people won’t. I’ll bet dollars to donuts that the top players are already doing that when not in combat. Why not just level the playing field a little bit more, so you don’t have to rifle through your inventory to grab a weapon and put it on your paperdoll?

GreyMouser.1235

Totally agree; bring back what we had in GW1, and give us all OOC weapon combo slots. It doesn’t confer any additional advantage to anyone, it keeps us from having to search through our inventory when we want to completely change our combat setup. This is especially important when you’re switching between two single-handed weapons to a two-handed weapon. You end up having to search through your inventory for where those kitten weapons went when you want to go back. Combine that with Trait Build Templates, and we’ll be golden.

Imagine: two or three hotkeys, and you can go instantly from your PvE setup to your Dungeon setup, to your WvWvW setup. I’m still stunned this wasn’t in the game from the get-go.

Stacked Windcatchers - all bound post patch

So I had a pair of windcatchers sitting on a mule. Quite frankly, I forgot about them for a while with all of the ramp-up to the April 15 patch. I remember about them post-patch, and take a look, thinking I’ll finally unlock one and put the other on the TP. I go to that character to find that the skin has become unlocked, and both items are account-bound.

I submitted a ticket explaining this, and the only response back is, “We are unable to help you with this request.”

How exactly can Arenet defend this position? Clearly a bug during the patch bound these items, and now Arenanet won’t do anything about it?

All items now have a “skin designation” attached to them. Most of the skin designations are brand-new, as Anet had to build an entirely new identifier system on top of the old item system. So you have an item, and it has a particular skin designation that identifies what it looks like.
