LOL I haven’t logged since last christmas and just remembered about this thread (got burnt out a bit so taking a well deserved break :p ).
Honestly, after a month I’m surprised it hasn’t been addressed properly by someone more than a CC or moderator.
Even if the issue is small or we are just terribly unlucky, somebody should be answering us.
Is it in our heads ? Then say so.
Please.
To be honest I should be a good experiment. Haven’t played in a month. DR must have reset by now xD.
I could see if my luck has changed. Will try to arrange some time to play the game and will keep you updated when I do on my results.
It’s obviously a hack meant for WvW. Allows to merge with the environment unsuspected while still be able to attack your opponents with ranged weapon. This should be banned.
Good idea but the name could maybe use some rework. Just saying that you know…it sounds like a certain bad word.
Overall your suggestion is pretty cool, but I think there are already the largos which are an aquatic species skilled in stealth and magic that could encompass your proposed concept.
No idea but the “Mods” are more like the Gestapo. They don’t even interact with the community to join in on the discussions. All we get is “This topic is closed” and variations of that. Why can they not join in on the chats like the blizzard community managers do? If i were them i would take a trip over to the wow community forums to learn how to treat their community.
Ps. To the employees, I have nothing personal against each of you just the way the forum is run(i understand it has been handed down from a higher level)
This is exactly how I feel. I try to contribute to a conversation and my entire fact filled, helpful post gets removed because of a perceived and imagined attitude.
—
I only come to this forum to answer questions. I am never rude unduly to anyone. You want to ban me from the forum, go for it. It’s our community, I am helping other players.
More tact and diligence needs to be applied before you delete posts.
I never see any moderator take time to answer a beginners question, or a struggling players question. Ban/Delete the posts of players who are answering and helping and all you will have left is ..well.
ANet frowns upon call-outs. It is found in their terms and conditions.
I believe the community coordinators & moderators actually work for a 3rd party company employed by ANet. They are meant to be the bridge between the GW2 forums (aka player community) and the GW2 staff. Why would be why anytime somebody has a genuine question on the forums, they run to go and get a designer to answer it rather than hundling us directly.
So I’d guess they are paid for it yes.
(edited by Groovy.6749)
ANet is generally great with dealing with most issues found in the game, except a select few that they just generally do not like talking about. This includes DR, MF, LFGs and culling. I’m sure I’m forgetting a couple of things as well so forgive me if I did.
So yeah, if your problem is about something else than these …“things”, then you’re in luck ! Otherwise, better get used to it cause them said “things” aren’t moving anywhere fast.
Still a great game.
As a thief I would much prefer having a rifle over a scythe anyday. That of course is only down to personal taste. That said the scythe kinda goes down well witht the stealth/darkness element of the thief. If I remember correctly, a uick shadowy scythe effect is placed on the thief when shadow refuge is cast so who knows…maybe you’re right :p
Wouldnt fit warrior though, also do not forget they already got a massive repertoire of weapons at their disposal. But if ANet tried to makle it work, Im sure it would.
Necros definitely deserve one, dare I say even need one xD … Lore wise, skill wise it just makes sense.
Guardians? I dont think so and purely down to taste/my opinion but to me guardians are supposed to be paladins really, masters of support and all around good guys….so giving them a scythe with all he connotations that go with this weapon just does not sit right with me.
Mesmers ? Meh…maybe, it depends on how the weapon skills would work with the mesmer profession.
Other professions just don’t make sense to me…at all.
Looks awesome ! Gonna get me some lol
ANet is as confused as an angsty teenager. One day it’s “skill”; the other it’s “dedication” through farming…and most of the time it’s an odd mixture of both. That visible and tangible indecision on their part does not make the process of crafting a legendary appealing to me.
I could go on and on like many here have about why they feel this way but let’s be frank: Farming mats with or without skill is not epic, especially when it’s 250 of them per category…
I got my fill of the game , and am currently recharging my MMO batteries playing some rather fantastic single player games. I have no interest in legendary because the journey to getting one does not correspond with the experience that I’ve had of the game. When it gets closer to that, then I’ll consider working towards it. Game itself is really great all around, and its legendary quest could be as well. If it doesn’t change/update/whatever then I’m sure I’ll get there eventually in a year or two, even if I try my best not to.
Plus let’s not forget the stats of a legendary, even if they get bolstered after ascended still mean nothing in terms of content gating. It is utterly pointless, at least in practice. Zero incentive for me to get one. If it does the trick for someone else, then by all means, do it. Fun is a very subjective notion and everyone is going to feel different about different things. To me, it just feels stale.
Frankly, I couldn’t give a kitten
And that, in itself, feels good.At least be honest with yourself.
If all legendaries were worth 10g tomorrow you’d get one in a heartbeat.
Yeah of course, who wouldn’t ? But that’d be even less legendary. Which does not contradict my point. If people want to go for legendary, let them. I am not going to ask ANet to change their mind because of whatever I feel or think. I’m gonna keep playing the game and I will get there eventually. Personally I do not feel the need to have my legendary as soon as possible like some people on the forums seem to.
Now if the legendary’s acquisition was a bit different, then who knows maybe I would feel differently about it. As it stands right now, I have no real desire to get one. Besides my main is a thief and I got the fantastic offer of either getting a wannabe lightsaber dagger….or a “my little pony” shortbow…so I have to admit this might have had an impact on whether I was going to go for legendary.
So to sum it up, for me and my main’s class it’s:
1)a pretty poor skin,
2)stats are pretty much meaningless in GW2 hence the bolstered stats of legendary is entirely pointless (in the games current state)
3)too much effort for too little reward (see 1 and 2 )
This is just my personal opinion on legendary. Of course I will craft one a year or two down the line when I finally get all the materials, but there isn’t enough in it for me to desperately want one as soon as possible.
Besides Anet made it clear it was supposed to be a long term goal, not a 3 or 6 month achievement. So I guess I’m doing it right ?

This mystery needs investigating. Someone get the Hardly Boys !
Seriously though, it’s either a remnant of a deleted quest…or it is something to come in future updates/expansions that hasn’t been built upon yet. Or just a good ol’ easter egg.
Time only will tell, but til then, I’m gonna go see it for myself. Thanks for the tip!
well i just got the game and i only have basic knowledge from my friend but i think i get what people are saying. Would it be recommended to check around midnight to try to get into Crystal Desert?
Probably your best chance. Although since it’s holidays time with a special event at the moment you might find it hard to get yourself in.
It might take a few try but if you DO keep checking more or less everytime you login at a low peak hour then you will get in eventually.
Most players are already lvl80 hence rarely visit lower level zones. ANet is doing what it can to bring new blood in with special events, but only time will tell the level of their success…
So i wanted to play GW with my buddy on the world he is in but it is always full. How can i get into it without it being full besides waiting until late night or if i do manage to get in will the population of the world affect my ability to play the game when i want too?
You can’t am afraid, until the server gets some free room there are no ways to get there.
Also, once you are on the server, you are on it for good. I don’t know 100% how it works, but only when room will be made available is when you may join.
You might have to check in on servers everytime you log on until you get your window…
Sorry I couldn’t have been more helpful xD
Well that depends where you’re from. I got all my presents.
That’s just cruel
I wasn’t referring to the power difference between two points. I was referring to the fact that working on getting two pieces of gear every few months or so is not comparable as farming a full set (both for pve and pvp) every month.
Also ascended is only required by fractals to play more fractals (at least at the moment). You and I can still clear all the remaining content with masterwork gear if we wanted to. So right now presuming that ascended is preventing you from being able to complete activities in the game is just that : presuming.
I don’t mean to brush you the wrong way and if I have then I apologize, I have seen quite a few posts from yourself across the forums and you come across to me as a decent and level-headed person, but I am simply stating my opinion on the matter. I cannot help it if sometimes they differ.
(edited by Groovy.6749)
You’ll only find that out if get up early tomorrow to see if you got any presents from Father ANet. It still isn’t christmas yet.
Lack of incentive to partake in the zones whether you are leveling or lvl80 is what’s missing. Sometime I try to get events going by linking the wps or p.o.i.s…but no one shows up.
Give lower level zones bigger karma rewards if you are higher level, and suddenly zones will fill up more…or at the very least encourage players to do more than just passing through.
Give me a rifle. We are designed to be roamers/assassins. I want to be able to snipe people.
Their current anti-spam policy is over the top. No argument from me.
Vertical progression isn’t a problem in itself. It’s all about how steep the curve it.
Right now it’s just a summer hike at the bottom of the mountain and no way near an actual ascension ( no pun intended).
Nice features, but not essential. Maybe one day when ANet got their current content issues ironed out.
Because buy more bank space, that’s why.
The man is right. You won’t be able to force Anet’s hand on this one.
I’ve never seen an army base in preparation for war have its troops just standing around, the commanders content to have their troops do whatever they like.
Sorry to burst your bubble but another thing I’ve never seen is an undead army being lead by a dragon who’s been snoozing under the ocean.
Realism and fantasy do not mix. Do not try to mix them together. If you do not like it, that’s fine but forcing logic on fiction is not a sound way to prove your argument.
L2T learn to trade
What a constructive post.
Also correct me if I’m mistaken, but I thought the game was called Guild Wars 2 not Trade Wars 2.
I do partake in the economy but I do not view the TP as my source of income. If you do enjoy doing that, then it isn’t my right to tell you whether to do or not do it.
But the tax as it stands right now puts those who use TP as main income and those who don’t in the same basket. Meaning small time traders are generally penalized while those do are the big traders aren’t. This needs some re-adjusting so everyone can be on an equal footing.
equal footing I like that. Legendaries and a cooked goose for all!!!!
Yet another constructive post. I’m starting to see a pattern here.
Also just because everyone starts from the same point does not mean all will make it to the finishing line. So you can keep your sarcasm and legendary, I’ll take the journey over the destination anytime. Oh and that cooked goose too.
More practice will help. Every thief has spammed their abilities by accident especially when still finding their way around the class.
Losing CnD ( 5 ini ) is a big loss so if you catch yourself missing the first time, DO NOT press it again because you will be stealth but dry. Just do a dodge, and give yourself a second or two to recharge…THEN you can try again.
The worst mistake a thief can do is to get spam happy (whether by accident or voluntarily) because it means you are left vulnerable for x amount of time (we cant just switch weapons to get more options like other classes do, and you’ll be stuck waiting 8-9seconds on a weapon set that won’t let you do what you intend to do xD ).
It will still happen here and there (as mistakes always happen), but the rest of the time you will do it less often.
You’ll just give yourself a sigh, followed by a little lol. That’s what I do :p
How am I wrong when your OP revolves around saying “why should I play thief any longer when guardians get more kills than I do?”.
If that isn’t what you meant, then you should clarify your point.
On the topic of complaints, stealth classes are always going to generate QQ simply because stealth seems hard to counter. It will never end until either (a) stealth classes fully disappear or (b) the player mass gets educated about how to counter us.
You just have to ignore the QQers, you could literally give them a bullet point presentation of how to beat us alongside a demonstration and they would still complain because complaining is easier than learning. It’s the only way to remain sane about it, and to believe ANet is confident enough about its own decision making abilities ( they made a great class, it is up to them to keep it that way).

I really hope ANet makes his own mind about the issue and ignores the forum whiners who just want to tear down any class that isn’t theirs.
I love my thief but he isn’t my only character so it’s not like I will care much either way.
as long as all the classes remain fun to play that is all that matters.
I personally am a stealth/crit thief with a bit of condi in between to add the right amount of pressure on target.
If a nerf happens and it touches something I currently do/use, then I’ll just roll with it and/or adapt. Only bad players believe a nerf or 15 is going to allow them to win. They will keep losing and another class will become the “big bad wolf”. Culling needs addressing severely, it gives the thief class a bad reputation, frustrating everyone, and making people call for nerfs that aren’t needed. Please help thief and redeem our class by fixing culling.
In WvW, I know we make the best roamers and I think we were intended to be that way. Once the zerg happens though, we become really irrelevant (cluster bomb doesn’t do much most of our abilities are not meant to affect more than 2 or 3 targets within close proximity) but that’s fine. Zergs are about numbers so I just usuall focus on getting supplies up and building. No complaints from me.
In sPVP, it is the same thing as always…in any game ever involving a stealth class. We are hated because our dynamic confuses our opponents. It can be use defensively and offensively. You chose to make our stealth a none permanent buff to limit aggravating other classes, which I thought was a fair compromise for everyone but there are still many who cry at us if we disappear too often (if only briefly) as it desorientate them. Good pvpers do not bother complaining as they know that and how to counter us easily (aka rooting/stun/daze) and read our stealth patterns (we either attack or run, so it’s easy to guess looking at our HP).
In PVE, no complaints. If we want to be more survivable we can, and if we want to be more offensive we can as well. Pistols has become a bit boring though.
All in all, I think we are fairly balanced. Other classes feel we are OP in certain aspects of the game but in my opinion it is (a) their own classes are a bit weak, for example engineers need some love or (b) they chose the wrong build to take on sPVP or WvW.
Whatever happens: nerf, buff or nothing, I will keep playing thief. Thanks for making a great class ANet.
Before anything else, it is “quit” not “quited”. I’m not normally a grammar nazi (at all!!!), but this one was just too much.
So back on subject, if you enjoy playing thief you should just keep doing it. WvW isn’t won by one player so if your playstyle is more of a roamer while inbetween zergs then you should stick to it. You clearly enjoyed that if you have reached 14,000 kills…
From the way you phrase it, it almost sounds like you are either asking fora guardian nerf or just want to play an OP class and sadly thief isn’t the only top dog anymore.
So my advice to you is simple: if you love thief you won’t mind the occasional defeat; if you want simply to play to win, then by all means switch to guardian but don’t expect our approval one way or another because we do not care.
PS. I also have a thief so it’s not me venting hate at a thief because I think they are OP. I just think you like to feel OP.
This would help the “poorer” players making some money as selling low cost items would pretty be much tax free, while keeping the power traders/goldsellers/exploiters (sorry if you are a legitimate power trader that I put you in the same bag as these other two, I mean no disrespect to yourselves directly) in check by making it a 30-35-40% tax depending on the price items are listed.
Accusations aside (The vast majority of traders are perfectly legit), this wouldn’t work anyway.
That is why I said right after I meant no disrespect to the legitimate trades. But rreading it back, I can see where you’re coming from despite my lame apology xD.
What I badly tried to say was those with enough assets to actively alter the economy (yes, I am aware no indiviual has actually enough trading power to directly and immediately affect/manipulate the economy, but at times all it takes is a gentle push in the right direction to cause a snowball effect) should be the ones targeted by this tax.
As you rightly pointed out, you could start buying in smaller blocks to dodge these sort of tax…maybe what we need is then some sort of system that keep records of how many transactions were made, and how much gold was involved in them and the higher it gets the higher the tax increases.
After a certain set amount of time, it would start decreasing but that could keep problems like market manipulation at bay. You could still have a go at it, but it’ll start costing you a lot rapidly and thus eventually forcing you to take a half from it, if only for a while (which is why I suggest it should be made account bound and not only character only to avoid alt jumping).
How high or low to set the bar would remain in ANet’s hands but I believe this could help with helping to control those with the means to somewhat control it (even if only a tiny part of it).
The average joe would never get close to this limit before tax gets seriously heavy, thus navigating between 2,3% and 15% (including farmers, without which they’d be no steady supplies) while the bigger boys ( aka not farmers but those with enough coins to significantly raise or crash the prices) would find themselves in the water of 30-45% tax eventually.
I just think those wanting to contribute and partake in the economy should be encouraged while those seeking to manipulate it or generate “undeserved” profits by continuously buying/selling stocks should be reminded that it isn’t wall street :p
Effing thieves…how do they work ?!
It depends your playstyle, I personally recommend trying them all to see how you feel about it. Personally I always got them all in my inventory so I can always change/mix it up. If only for fun and to break the motonomy…
The tax should remain.
But it should be scalable, not simply a steady 15% for all transactions.
That, for example, would pretty much guarantee to remove exploiters/golf sellers from putting up legendaries on the TP or putting bids of 600g on stupid things like a peach or lemon (only reason to do that is to be a kitten who wants to show off/laugh at the pleb).
Selling twilight for 9500g ? Sure, that’d be a 45% tax, thank you!
Selling a handful of low level mats and a masterwork, rare ? Alright, let’s make a deal and I’ll charge you only 2 or 3%.
This is what needs to happen. Keep the speculation in check, but encourage small businesses to grow and bloom.
Well until I see someone with glass cannon who makes my jaw drop from being amazing at it, I still stand by my opinion.
Is this good enough?
The Warrior in this video isn’t using a “glass cannon” build. At Lv 80 a Warrior has 18,372 hp naked. This guy has 22,024 which means he is getting an extra 400 vit from somewhere. (400 vit = ~4,000 hp)
“Glass Cannon” by definition wouldn’t “waste” points on vit. Every glass cannon warrior that I have grouped with uses what they call “Signet Zerker” build where all their utility slots have a signet in them. This Warrior only has two signets, and uses them for the activated ability not the passive effect.
While this is a clear look at someone that actually knows how to play the game, it is by no means an example of a glass cannon.
I agree. My warrior only has 1 signet, which is SoS, for dodging. I am tough/prec/power specced. And while I only have 21k hp with food&potion/oil buffs, my high level of toughness permits me to survive as well as a tank warrior who wasted (sorry for the choice of word if it’s insulting. It’s just my opinion) 20 or 30 traits on vita.
I got two endure pain ( one can be activated on command, the other at 25%hp), and basically I count on them, my toughness and my heal to get me out of trouble when it’s really getting too much.
A few dodges usually do me fine as the CDs pop up again, and I’m ready to go ad libitum! Note that because I dodge does not mean I stopped tanking, it just means I don’t see why I would waste skills when I don’t need to.
Warrior is the third class I took to lvl80, and while they are really good (not as OP as some make out, but definitely top of the line), they can do quite a bit more than people give them credit for.
There’s some really cheesy builds out there, most being wammos or 5signets bursters…but that’s just exploring about 10% of the class potential…no wonder these are the warriors who come to the forum and whine when they get killed. They found a build online, and never looked back. I bet some never even bother trying different skills slots just to see….just to see what could happen. Alfterall, if you don’t even know your class, how can you possibly hope to beat another?
Buy rune of centaur..each time you use your heal…you get10sec of swiftness.
That’s what my mesmer did.
I fully sympathize with you OP. Many MMO players, even those that now qualify as MMO veterans do not understand the beauty of the real pvp mentality, with PKs and antis/or socials. Most of the “new veterans” associate this with the need to grief, camp or troll others which is often found in current pvp games BUT they do not remember the times when that what made communities. PVE was just a way to level up and genuinely not fun, PVP was where the fun was at.
And the communities of time embraced this mentality. I was discussing just that in map chat when I started playing the game, and the general answer I got “if you like pvp, you’re either a wvwer or a griefer…hence gtfo”.
I guess the pvp mentality has switched, since now pks get the best loot from pve, and in the worst scenario possible, simply can ressucitate at the nearest spawn with no penalties. Back then, your gear could be lost forever. It was ruthless but exhilirating.
Back then the top players were often pks, I remember a zerg chasing one guy and the bugger owned us lol. Of course you had great players on the socials’ side, and that led to awesome duels. I remember one of our “heroes” lost the match and we all rushed from the closest safe spot to zerg the pk so he couldn’t steal the loot from our friend xD
Nostalgia…maybe it was 2D but it was fast, and it was furious.
I am pleased with this decision from ANet. This shows they respect their customers’ time as per said in their manifesto: No matter which time as which we login, our playtime is as valuable as the next person.
I know LFG tools are not the best answer to the grouping issue, but it currently is the lesser of two evils. When/if ANet finds a better solution down the line, then I’d have no qualms with them removing the LFG tool and implementing whatever they created instead.
So thank you ANet for respecting our time, we really appreciate the gesture.
Makes me want to roll a guardian just to annoy you.
Jokes aside, it seems sPvP is unbalanced because of
(a) thieves (cant see me, cant see you lololo )
(b) mesmers (zomg too many names on teh screen what is I gonna do ?)
( c) elementalist (the fire…IT BURNSSSSS !!!!)
(d) guardians (why wont you die for me plz?)
(e) rangers (I used to be able to kill all of yas but now it’s harder )
(f)necros (stop stealing my life mannnnn, also 2 life bars = hax0r)
So it seems that we are left with 2 options now :
Be a warrior aka the winning team
Be an engineer aka the losing team
What an interesting game we are left with… but this is the price to pay to ensure that OP gets his fill of “wins”. Call dibs on warrior ? :p
(edited by Groovy.6749)
It was a gesture of good will by ANet to all of its players, but I wouldn’t expect anything being to compensate players individually.
Alternatively, ANet could always take your cogs away.
I am not really the achievement hunting type, but it would probably be fairer for those who dislike farming.
Guess it’s not going to happen anyway, but a good suggestion nonetheless.
…Yes its a little weird that the summoned stuff dies to despawn. It’s probably something inherent to their engine, and they might fix it so that stuff can just disappear eventually, but I’ll bet it’s not as easy as it would seem.
I’m 100% sure about that. My mesmer sometimes gets the “stuck in combat” bug that we all get at times, and my summoned clones or phantasms do persist regardless. Longest time is ever happened is when I went afk for 15 or 20 mins only to return and see my brave minions still standing by my side.
Which means summoned creatures/pets/illusions/etc work by various “coded enchantments” so there’s got to some one somewhere that lasts longer, an hour or day time limit would be fine enough not to not notice it (am just giving these two examples because I have seen them ingame on other players or npcs). Simply replace the creature summoned, link it to that rune set and you got no more dead dogs !
At least not from old age xD
(edited by Groovy.6749)
The dog that gets summoned is fun to play and adventure with, but he dies one minute after being created. So instead of having fun with the dogs, I feel like I’m leaving a trail of dead dogs across Kryta.
So much lol. I’m actually going to get these runes now just to see it for myself !
I’m actually a dog lover as well, and it is fairly depressing, but now you’ve said that it’s become the forbidden fruit.
Although once I experience what you described, I’ll most likely feel the same way as you
Better. Replace the star with the chest from the character select menu. Chests are epic , right ?
Also prawns do not make “uhhhhhhhh ahhhhhh” noises.
I hate inspect so much because that’s when people start excluding other people from party because of the armor
That’s why I mentioned the just vital stats option, like agony resist, magic find amount (only because it’s not a useful stat for actual progress) and fractal level.
I don’t like being judged on my gear either. But there are some things that are vitally important. Like agony resist in a high level fractal.
Then ask.
What is the point of lying about AR only to be found out in the next 15 mins ? If that happens, just black list that player.
But yeah I agree with the others, last thing GW2 is people being able to look you up and say “nah, you ain’t good enough” in a game where technically you can clear everything with masterwork. You might be noble and fair enough to see that, but many wannabe l33t players won’t. Even in a game like GW2.
While I can see where you are coming from regarding agony, the consequences outweigh the benefits. Because we both know if that change was ever impletemented, it would reveal more than just AR, MF or etc..
EDIT : just for clarification
(edited by Groovy.6749)
Personally I watch p0rn while I play GW2 so I never noticed. And I live in Divinity’s reach !
what you want is to make an engineer specced in grenades.
Haha, that’s just cruel
Cruel for all the players who will die by his hand, yes.
Someone get bono !
