You say “most players”.
Source please ?
Not trying to be a kitten here, but getting gear/gold is NOT a challenge in this game. This DR talk is getting out of hand now. Sure the drops suck a bit at the moment, but it doesn’t cripple anyone who not willing to adapt a little bit.
You start your thread stating you have an issue purely with the DR, then later you go on to complain of other features that you did not raise in your original statement. It is a forum for discussion and you have the right to voice your opinion on any subject you see fit, but the more you debate the more it seems you dislike the game in its current state.
If you do, maybe you should just give GW2 a break and come back when whatever really ails you has been fixed ?
(edited by Groovy.6749)
Tired of going through the tedious process of claiming dungeons like CoF just to have them become contested after one run and forced to repeat that tedious process again.
Seriously increase Dungeon capture times.
At least people are bothered enough to take CoF back, you should try taking a look at Arah or CoE. A lot less interest going on there.
Feature is fine as it is in my opinion.
People have a problem with underwater combat now ?
I thought that was one of the better additions to the MMO genre.
Swimming is cool man. If there are some small issues that can be addressed then by all means do it.
You can’t expect the devs to prioritize one bug over another considering the mountain of fixes that need to be done, just because that is the bug that annoys you the most. It will all get done in time.
Also mesmers are broken in tpvp ? lol sounds like you need to update your spec, just saying. The usual spamathon of illusion won’t work there, but that does not mean mesmers don’t have other tricks up there sleeves :p
Unless you just arrived, thieves have been consistently hit with the nerf bat.
Chances are they will be nerfed again…and again.
The issue isn’t the dps, or the signets, or the builds…
It’s the stealth.
People have always hated stealth classes. In like every MMO ever released.
Anet did something great to limit the damage A.K.A QQ, which was to remove the perma stealth abilities that come with the stereotype of the class.
Now thieves can only enter stealth temporary, and if they spam all their stealth abilites then they find themselves stealthless. Which means you are left with a DPS with laughable survivability…until the stealth skills pop back up.
I think that was a great move…but I guess it wasn’t enough for some.
Some players do not like being confused as it makes their head hurt.
The perfect example of this is the second most hated class…the mesmer.
Mesmer do have some elements of stealth, although it really is subpar but the real reason why the are hated so is their clones/phantasms that confuses the players I am talking about.
I hate to say this but this is a L2P issue. My main thief really struggled with mesmers for a while until I learnt how they worked.
Then I rolled a mesmer because their dynamics are really fun I think. Just because a class isn’t an obvious class AKA “hulk smash” or “hulk doesnt feel pain you puny human” does not mean it’s overpowered.
It is the same as if my thief or mesmer started crying about how they cant get up close and personal with the “in your face” classes. You can’t have it all. Sorry dude.
To sum it up, some classes have unusual dynamics that make up for their other vulnerabilities. Stealth is that dynamic for the thief.
But chances are my post confused you, and should be nerfed. Right ?
Sweet
Thanks for the tip, will definitely do that when I next login !
I don’t care for WP fees much. It will only affect you if your idea of playing the game is porting all over the place every five seconds. Go to a zone, do your business, probably get some mini loot on the way, sell it…port again. profit.
I don’t even use the mists→LA trick, I mean why put myself through two loading screen ? The horror…the horror…
Start an alt ?
That’s what I did when I reached the “perfectly aesthetic” point for my main.
Problem is I hit the same point my alt, even faster due to larger funds from said main and the fact I knew how the game worked, and also what kind of armor set I envisioned for the alt from playing my main.
So what did I do ?
I started ANOTHER alt >.> lol….
But now that I have 2lvl 80s, it’s only going faster and from swimming in token tokens & gold, once I hit level 80 which won’t take long, I will be in the same situation…again.
So alts is not the answer to “fun” longevity in this game either. And if you aren’t even alt inclined, then might as well forget 90% of what I just said.
I guess the only thing to do is to probably give the game a break, and come back when there is new content, then leave again…ad lib.
Doing alts has helped me kind of dodge this problem but I think I’m not too far behind you man :p
You didn’t say if you had a legendary…so if you don’t, I guess you could work towards that but that’d be the equivalent of hopping in Grindville…so it’s your call really.
There is also WvW which is always fun, well not always, but generally.
I second projectcedric.
I love my thief and my mesmer. Stealth makes exploration a bliss, and vanishing from my enemies is so much fun before lashing out full DPS on them out of the blue. Top marks lol.
And the mesmer ? Well who can not love (a) the great control it affords in term of aggro / or confusing the enemy player and (b) butterflies to the FACE !!!!
Recently started a warrior “for the lulz” since there was/is quite a lot of QQ surrounding that class, but at the moment am still learning it and don’t feel really in control of the character yet so it’s hard to judge its efficiency.
If I ever make another toon (oh my god what is happening to me, I swore to myself three toons would be my final limit), then it would be an engineer.
Honestly out of the remaining classes, it seems like the one that’s the most unusual left to play AKA “would you like some mine for breakfast ?”
Why you rubbing salt in my wound bro ?
Still havent got my ring drop lol
My own RNG qualms aside, you are right with your suggestion. If you got loot, you should be able to do what you want with it.
Am I the only one who likes mystery tonics ?
I was quite sympathetic with the DR issue that quite a few players are reporting in open world PVE since I experienced some of it myself, but the inflating amount of QQ is now driving me in the opposite direction.
It isn’t hard in any way, shape or form to get your toon geared in top level gear. it isn’t.
Now if you want to talk about the grind for legendary, well yeah it sucks a bit that to get the supposedly “coolest” weapons in the game ( I personally don’t think they are, nor worth the effort but that’s my own opinion) require you to grind like a madman. And when I say it sucks, I don’t say because because it is too hard (grinding isn’t hard), but because it is boring.
And what happens once you have reached top gear ? Any profit you make afterwards doesn’t really have a purpose…
You could roll an alt in a different profession and do the same all over again. I mean, it is a way of burning that “pointless” money. Having a another lvl80 makes doing so incredibly faster. Of course if you aren’t inclined that way, then it’s not worth your time.
I got 2 lvl 80s in full exotics with my perfect look for them, and I’m doing a third alt at the moment. It’s going really fast lol. Gold is not issue whatsoever. Plenty of ways to make money, and from there I can spend it on whatever I want…which mostly is on ruminant tonics ( Dolyak form in WvW ftw !!!) or siege weapons ( Golem ftw!!!!).
Seriously, open world DR and nerfed drops : yes, it sucks somewhat. But to the point of ruining your experience ? Really ?
(edited by Groovy.6749)
I’d like to thank my college, and my krewe…
Did not know you could be in several guilds at the same time.
This changes everything xD
Legendary = unique skin + special fx + hundreds of hours of grind.
Some will go for it, others won’t.
Maybe Anet will make it something different in the future, but maybe they won’t.
When I heard about the legendaries before the game was released, I was imagining something like the legendary class weapon quests from EQ2 where it was a mix of puzzles, exploration, quests and getting legendary components from ultra hard bosses in raids all over the world (yeah I know raids don’t exist in GW2).
Thing is, it didn’t take as long as to get your legendary that way as Anet intends you to get it in their game so I do not know what would be the better solution.
I have the feeling legendaries will get reworked at some point on as the game grows, but I won’t hold my breath on it. Just give it some time. There are plenty of ways to make your character really awesome at the moment without having a legendary.
sPVP needs a bit of oomph back, definitely.
I’m sure the devs are already aware that playing essentially the same minigame of “capture a point” over and over again is going to turn off some pvpers at some point.
So I figure that they will be making some improvement on that issue eventually. Good news is the game is B2P, so you can come back to it whenever they have done so. Just like picking up your old copy of Halo 1, and having a blast on it in legendary co-op
There is WvWvW issue that you raised. And like you, I play quite a bit of WvW, and yes it does get stale sometimes. Although it does depend the match-up. I find the matches where it’s a complete roflstomp (whether you’re the one doing the roflstomping or receiving it) utterly boring, and much prefer the ones where it’s up for grabs.
I think the answer to that is with the dynamic events. DEs brought a breath of fresh to PVE, but I believe it could do even more for PVP/WvW instead of being the vegetables left over at the end of the meal, which is what it is at the moment.
Imagine if you held a keep and a tower in the same area at the same time, then it would trigger a certain dynamic event that had an impact on the course of the battle.
There could be some many combinations. It’s like what they did originally with the orbs but had to remove it because of hackers ruining it for everyone.
I mean there is a lot of potential in this area. I just think they need to build on their system a bit more. The foundation are already there in place.
But to be honest, it sounds like you might have reach the “burnt out” point. If you have played other MMOs, I’m sure you know what I’m talking about.
In that case, you probably ought to take a breakfrom it for a little while. Since it B2P you don’t have to worry about subscription fees and can come back anytime, they might even have added some of new content in your preferred area of the game when you do decide to give it a go again.
Most of time, we over-analyze kitten.
I lol’d. This is 100% what happens in the forums of any game.
Anet made a great game, no doubt. I hope I didn’t come across as what isn’t ingame bugs me.
But if you asked if I didn’t notice a thing or two, that’d be a lie.
I’m glad you’re comfortable with the content purely as it is, so am I really. Just like you, I’m just throwing my opinion out there. I know probably only a peep or two is going to read it anyway :p
PS. Also I don’t see where I contradicted myself, but that doesn’t really matter to the overall discussion.
a)Golemancer. Nuff said.
There is enough in the lore to build easily on that idea, if they were so inclined. Could work pretty well, half of the skills revolve around ordering/controlling for golem “pet” while kiting safely away (ranger style) …the other involve riding the actual golem (warrior tank style)
Maybe an adrenaline bar like the warrior before you may ride it, I don’t know. If the fundamental idea sounds good enough to Anet, I’m sure they could find a way to make it work.
b)Shapeshifter could be great fun, might be a pain with the different races to animate but Anet could do it if they were so inclined.
c) the martial artist sounds cool too, but the monk profession (sorry if im over simplifying your idea) has been seen in many mmos and many fail to deliver the Bruce Lee experience that we all really understand by “monk” so it’s probably not a good idea in the long run…even if the concept rocks
d) Mentalist (or something like that, I cannot think of a good name for this)
Kinda of the opposite of the mesmer. While the mesmer tricks his enemy through clones, the Mentalist tricks his enemy’s mind. He could turn one member of a mob against the others, he could make himself appear “invisible” to a specific mob while actually still being visible to the rest of the world, he could mind warp (stun/daze whatever effect).
Basically a purer CC class that instead of tricking the aggro….controls it more directly.
Or something like that…whatever xD
Only game I ever vote for when it comes to Goty are Bethesda games. Can’t beat their savoir-faire when it comes to RPGs.
But congratulations are still in order for the ANet team. They did release a great MMO. I hope they keep living up to the title they just earned
stupid question
can i get myself a bow legendary on my elementalist and then move it to a diff char?
Absolutely.
I got a mate who got a precursor from the karka chest. Sadly it didn’t fit his profession. He created an alt, and sent it to his new character.
Kind of a weird way to choose to create a character, but in his shoes, I probably would do the same thing.
The only issue in your way is the “soulbound” issue. If yu have not equipped the item, then you can pass it freely from your character to the next within the domain of your account through your bank. Just do not equip it :p
@projectcedric
I think you are giving too much credit to Anet. They ARE great developers but they aren’t revolutionary either.
I am basing this assumption from some of the choices they made with their game ( token system, RNG, necessity to farm in order meet certain game goals, recent shift towards marginal vertical progression…).
What they did is a remarquable job with the open world aspect. No more running from quests to quests trying to dodge mobs on the way as fast as possible until the next zone gets “unlocked”, where the same cycle will repeat itself.
Now we have dynamic events that grab your attention and help create a sense of community in the moment; exploration that deserves your interest, a combat system that feels a lot more fluid and puts you more in the shoes of the characters we play; underwater combat feature that goes quite a way into giving a sense of immersion ( there is nothing weirder than being to play a character carrying epic deeds yet who’s afraid to wet his feet); the removal of the holy trinity thus enabling players to be much more autonomous and effective independently; and many other features that I can’t think of at this moment.
What they didn’t do is revolutionize the dungeon/ grouping system. The “only” point of dungeons besides testing your mettle as a player is to get nice looking gear ( other mmos encourage players to do this for stats, GW2 encourages you to do it for skin/ prestige…still kind of egotistical motivation).
You still “farm” tokens; you still have to go through tedious mobs inbetween bosses with mediocre mechanics supposed to “spice things up”; you still need other players to clear it (except that now their class doesn’t have that much of an impact) and without these players you find yourself locked out of experiencing this game content; you still pray to the RNGoddess that you may get a decent drop or two to make up for damaged gear if you aren’t into gearing up or skins.
Seems to me that they focused too much on solo content, and not enough on the social content. Which kind of defeats the point of making an MMO.
As someone else said in another thread, this game feels more like a Massive Co-Op Game. I do love guild wars 2, and I do enjoy the content they have released but not all of it is revolutionary.
So to me, one second they are “too good” for acceptable solutions to certain problems and other time it is absolutely fine for them to go for these “old fashioned” solutions.
I am just a player, and the ONLY rights I have are to play their game and to be able to voice my opinion on their content. I do not have the right to dictate what they are to do or not. It is THEIR game and I 100% support that, but I just think that when it comes to grouping, they should just bite the bullet and admit the current system is flawed and an hindrance to the general population. By all means when they DO find that revolutionary. out of the box solution to the social problem then by all means remove the LFG tool and put your gem into the game !
But to put a sticky on the forums saying “gw2lfg.com is a useful link for those looking for groups” comes across as either laziness, or refusal to admit they have made a poor decision.
You can’t support an old mechanic by giving it a sticky, and then say it is too good to actually be in your game.
They talk about immersion and how to avoid breaking it. If opening an internet tab, and then go through a 3rd party website just to experiment some of the content because you couldn’t find enough players to clear it isn’t called breaking immersion, then I don’t know what is.
If you are correct and they are only willing to “answer” that grouping issue when they get around to finding something truly fresh, then they also have to accept that their players are going to feel depraved in the meantime and most likely irritated.
Having a problem with that would be called having your cake and eating it too.
EDIT :
I realize reading back my previous posts that it sounds like I have a problem with the game.
I don’t. I love it. I just see where there is some small areas where there is room for improvement. Just my two cents :p
(edited by Groovy.6749)
@ projectcedric
I can see where you are coming from. Indeed it would be fantastic if we got to play a MMO where joining a guild and running dungeons regurlarly together was just THE OBVIOUS thing to do, as obvious as using the keyboard to control your character.
But sadly, as you rightly pointed out, it isn’t. The social system is broken, and the PUGs system is very much existant in this game too.
It probably is the result of the developers having not pumped enough money/ or grey matter into the problem of guild vs pugs.
Also before I forget, do not forget this game is/was intented mainly for casuals. Many who have never joined a guild,or find it weird ( it is a bit weird to make genuine online friends for certain people, and fair enough to them if that’s the case).
So if the developers know they havent found an adequate solution to the problem and that many players will find themselves “forced” (if you like) to do pugs… then why punish them for it ?
It does seem a bit hypocritical if that was the case.
It reminds me a bit of SWTOR who refused for ages to put in a LFG tool into their game because they wanted their community to “bond” and work together. The community just said “no”. Yes I still used the word community because people who do play the game know each other to the degree MMOs allow one player to know another.
Are we supposed to genuinely ask ingame " Hello kind ladies and sirs, I am venturing to the harsh lands of FireRise and wish to banish the Flame legion from these lands ? Who will give me his or her sword ?"
…Every time we want to do it ? With the same excitement as the first time we cleared it ?
Eventually the kind hero is just going to say “looking for group, lets get that done, chop chop chop”.
Just you know, I am not mocking your view, ideally I see where you are coming from I really do…but like I said before, with a flawed system in place how can you not expect people to just want to get the “seeking” of the group done and over with as quickly as possible.
Even with a guild there are the times when you login, and there just aren’t enough people (for whatever reason : others busy, only levelers online, etc…) to get it done. Which forces even the guild people to join pugs.
I am not an MMO developer so sadly I do not have the answer to this dilemna between cold grouping mechanics ( as you rightly described it) and social bonding between fellow adventurers (which would be fun AND awesome).
But since Anet hasn’t found the answer either, why should we pay the price ?
About my SWTOR anecdote; eventually they caved in and delivered the LFG tool, even if it took 6months to get there. All they did is annoy the community, because they too wished for the community to bond but did not put enough tools in the game for it to happen as they hoped for.

Two good questions.
1) I actually support the listing fee. I know it hinders the casual gamer trying to make a bit of coin, BUT it also hinders the power traders and the “1%” who hogs most of the server’s wealth.
What I would suggest is a meeting between the two scenarios. Don’t take out the listing fee, but make it scalable. Let’s say your just sold something worth 5silver. the listing fee would be ridiculously small to the point it doesnt matter.
Now someone wants to list a precursor, he loses a lot more doing so than the person selling a handful of low cost mats.
Why would I want to wealthy to be taxed ? Because it would prevent the original exploiters of godskulls turned power traders from happily messing and manipulating the economy as they currently are.
Also it would get rid of the kittens who find it funny to place an order of 600g on a lemon or a peach. These guys happily dance on the back of the majority of the playerbase and anything that hinders them is a win for everyone. How can I assume that a fair amount of the current power traders are/were exploiters ? I played a fair share of MMOs and I’ve never seen so many power traders that early in a game’s life. A select few, sure. But a hundred or so…come on….Am not talking about those who are between 100 and 200, these are the legitimate traders. I mean those with 600-700+ in their bank.
2) ingame voice chat is probably never going to happen. As TheDaiBish said, it takes up a lot of bandwith for an “optional feature”.
We all know that whose in a guild who are going to use teamspeak or mumble ARE going to do it, and those that aren’t still ARENT going to do it. Cant force someone to buy themselves a microphone or to use it, so why Anet should waste money on it ?
I would much prefer them to spend it on fixes and future content.
Also by the way, I don’t think that Anet generally answers to call-outs, in fact I am pretty sure they got a rule somewhere in the forums that states exactly that.
I know it is weird and kinda messed up that you can’t say “X, what is this?” on the forum of X. But we all registered and clicked the okay button, so it’s a bit late for that now :/
(edited by Groovy.6749)
SNIP
Again, why would you do this??
I’m not saying that you should think the way I do, but my first reaction if I also waited for even just an hour to find a party on a third-party website and failed to do so would naturally be to say to myself: “screw it, I’ll just do something else”.
Perhaps it would occur to you that maybe it was intended to be like that?
In fact, I believe that the lack of LFG system in-game is purposely done so as to discourage easy PuG’s and therefore prevent people from doing only one thing REPEATEDLY.
How is the lack of LFG discouraging players from looking for groups ? Have you not been to Lion’s Arch and not seen the map chat overflowing with “lfg” spams throughout the day ?
The problem is not people looking for group, but people struggling to find groups. Fractals has put a massive dent in the overall world pve content.
Before the 15th, I remember a lot more people running various dungeons and partaking in various dynamic events. Also Orr wasn’t as dead as it is now ( no pun intended), and there was enough windows of opportunity each day where you could finally get this or that temple “unlocked”.
This is much harder now. Hell even to get a fractal of your desired level can be a pain.
This is coming from someone who isn’t interested in the legendary, hence not really into that level of farming and just want to actually to do the dungeons. Just for your informations, I nearly have 3 lvl80s now, and I still haven’t done 3 dungeons out of the original 8.
Isn’t that a bit weird ?
LFG will help the community to achieve what it wants to do without wasting valuable time (spamming for an hour isn’t quality gameplay in my world).
Also I don’t think it occurs to anyone sensible that a flawed system like that would be deliberate. And if it was, then thank god there are people out there who turn around and complain about it because it shouldn’t be like that.
This is not runescape v0.1, we are in 2012 and the means to make grouping easy are available. No excuses other than poor judgement OR laziness.
(edited by Groovy.6749)
This is my opinion, and I do not have any source (obviously) to back up my claim.
To me, the legendaries is the carrot on a stick of GW2. Some players need a carrot to keep playing. I personally do not need it, or seek it.
Since the game is pretty much founded on the principle of horizontal progression ( or benign horizontal progression since fractals was released), once you are geared in your favoured set of exotics, you have done it !
You can farm for your favourite armor skins, so that means a couple of weeks will be dedicated to dungeon runs to farm tokens/or gold…whichever.
The legendaries are very limited and super ultra mega farming does not appeal to me. I much prefer to spend the gold I make on alts, stupid tonics or wvwvw siege equipments.
I got a guildie who joined at the same time as me. We were both roughly the same level a the time and actually hit 80 on the same day.
His focus was the legendary, mine was 3 max level/max exotic characters.
Two months later, he’s still farming like crazy and has got about a third, nearly half of the requirements (still needs his precursor) so he’s making good progress really.
Me ? I got my thief and my mesmer to level 80, both in dashing armor sets and lovely looking weapons ( I really dig the mystic / CoE weapons look ) and my warrior is lvl45 at the moment so my guess is I’ll reach my goal by around new year’s time. I am swimming in gold from doing ori runs and dungeon runs with two characters, and soon will be able to do that with 3.
My point ? It takes all kinds to make this world. Even if it’s digital. I am really enjoying my time in Tyria, and I have little issues with the game itself. If someone wants a lgendary, let him/her. If someone isn’t interested, there is plenty to do that doesn’t involve farming one.
I know when my guildie gets his legendary…eventually, he will rub it in my face xD and good for him, he worked for it afterall !
I’ll just woo him with my myriades of characters in return
As I said, if legendary is your thing. Go for it, otherwise don’t.
Maybe it will be hard for some players who really want one but don’t have the determination to see it through.
Myself , I never wanted one so I never had to swallow my pride lol
I hope I haven’t offended anyone, and if I did, I was simply expressing my point of view on the legendaries and what I’d rather do. But each to his own.
(edited by Groovy.6749)
The guy on put the legendary on the market is just showing off his money/ stuff. I mean, it is on the market for 9500g.
It only seems like 800g because I think the TP cannot work with such large sums lol, so it scats a little bit. Click on the actual item to see the proper listing.
As I said, my guess he is just showing off because he finally completed his legendary. Or he is one of those traders/exploiters that got rich of using the godskull exploit back then, and he’s definitely making fun of the pleb who’s struggling to put 2 gold together.
In either case, it’s a kitten move lol
EDIT : if there is confusion, I am on a EU server so we could be talking about a different legendary being listed.
And if we are…it seems kind of strange that legendaries would both be listed on several various TP domains (since several servers share the same TP).
Almost smells fishy to me…
(edited by Groovy.6749)
Do you not read the future content in the wiki, before posting in suggestions?
Waste of a post. They are working on it as we speak.
Yeah, because future content is such an easily accessible and known about feature to most players.
To find the link you have to really hunt the front page and it is worded strangely.
All you did was make yourself out to be “that guy” who gets his jollies by making others feel bad. There was a much better way of handling your response.
People don’t like to bother with finding more information before speaking, the “worded strangely” content seem amazingly obvious…
I mean I could be wrong and “Future Content” could just mean freshly baked bagels and has nothing to do with the game despite it being the official game wiki…
BTW I got my jollies off, jelly?
Newsflash! This is a game, not your work rota or tax form.
People are allowed to be lax about it. There’s absolutely no need to be condescending because someone hasn’t scouted the web for one little piece of information before asking a question.
Also I’m going to let you in on a secret : some people don’t even know that there is a wiki for about everything. Yes I know, shocker….
On another note, I’m really looking forward to that addition. I too, got a character that I grew to love and yet everytime I see his name on the select character screen, I cringe a little bit.
Am not too worried if that change takes a little while to be implemented. Just to know that it is coming is good enough for me
Now I can’t even get any sleep without being haunted by my pitiful drops “No…no…!…stop…clogging….my inventory….porous bones….nooooooo!!!!!!”.
Jokes aside, pve drops are still pretty lame for me. I don’t really bother with the dragons anymore since 5 blues is hardly worth the journey. But I’ll still go for a laugh if my guildies are there.
However as many have said dungeons DO drop decent loot more or less consistently, so I have switched my farming pattern entirely.
Run CoE for the charged stones/lodestones, Run CoF for the Onyx stones, do the daily ori nodes run across the lvl80 maps with my two alts and i can net about 4,5 g a day with a bit of luck.
So all in all, about 20-25g per week, afterall I can’t be farming all the time, that’d just be boring.
But by the end of the week, I got enough tokens to either gear up a bit…or salvage the exotics to get some ectos…which adds up on the top on the loot I got all week.
What I am trying to say is, yes it sucks that open world drops appear to us as decreased (yes I am phrasing it like that), but there is still viable ways of making reasonable coin in this game without finding it overly grinding.
It might not be what it was like a month or so ago, but it still works.
And afterall, if it is possible to keep making decent money with more or less effort, then it doesn’t make hold true with the theory of “Anet is trying to make us poor to buy gems”. My GM can make about 15-20 coins a day just by farming all the right places for the right amount of time. I am happy with 3-5g a day. It’s more than enough to cater for my general gw2 expenses.
Do not get me wrong, I am annoyed I can’t farm open world as effectively as before, I really enjoyed it and I dislike having something I constitute fairly fun made completely unprofitable ( I am one of those players that never got an exotic drop, like EVER, in open world and in dungeons….well actually once, the karka chest, But since everyone did too it didn’t feel very special, and I sold it immediately) while other avenues of the game remain strongly profitable. It doesn’t make sense to smash that one part of the game into the ground.
The only conceivable reason for that “perceived reduction” is that bots are still alive and well, only very discreet. Don’t forget bots cant farm dungeons so it makes sense that side of things wouldn’t be nerfed. Hell, maybe it’s even been buffed to compensate for the open world “nerf”.
At this point, it’s all speculation. But from the recent news update from Anet on how they are combatting bots I would think it’s the most likely scenario.
So I’m going to stop worrying, I’m going to enjoy the game an I am going to adapt to these recent changes. I enjoy clearing dungeons with my guild on mumble so I’ll have a good time regardless. Since I know they are not trying to hinder the players pockets, I am going to let it slide and hope open world drops will be buffed when Anet think it is safe to do so.
I’ll keep following the thread on and off, but I believe there is no conspiracy and no real need to worry. The only thing that is strange is the absence of response by Anet. Which would actually go along with the possible scenario of the bots still being present and therefore anet does not want the botters to be made aware that they are on their trail. That is my speculation, and I’m quite happy with that.
You guys should move on, there is still money to make in the game without having to break much of a sweat. I did and I feel better for it. We can all come back to it when things get back to normal
English are even confused about GMT. All the English members in my guild refer to their time as GMT, event when it is BST. Then I have to tell them it is BST during the summer and not GMT and they lose the plot
.
loool
That’s pretty much me :p
Probably because I live in London and greenwich park is like 30mins away from where I live so to me it’s GMT every time, everyday xD
Since Europe is a fairly big portion of their customers, a GMT clock would be really appreciated. We know the US always get the lead way in pretty much everything related to media, but there is no need to rub it in our nose :p
I hear they’re quite fond of halloween parties in that neighbourhood….
I think that Anet made the right call, but also that the OP’s points are valid.
What Anet did was taking away overly specialised class that cannot function effectively by themselves when put in more challenging situations. And I salute them for that.
What Anet also did was oversimplify certain aspects about combat. 10 skill bars + 5 slot skills + 1-4 profession skills ? Oh sorry, I forgot “dodge”.
While of course anyone with a bit of an interest for builds will find ways to craft their own unique character, with their own take on the class….well that is about it. It IS good. But it is a bit stale too.
I know some people will be tempted to say " but you have so many weapons to chose from, you can always change your style, etc…etc…etc…". Well you are correct, TECHNICALLY.
The majority of players will experiment until they find THEIR way of playing their class, then will be set more or less definitely on 2 weapon sets for the rest of their life (playing that specific class of course, that goes without saying). It would be incredibly costly/ time consuming for casual players to farm exotics for each possible weapon combination. Also the chosen spec will favour specific weapon set combinations while dismissing the rest.
My thief happens to have all the exotics for each of his available weapons. But let’s not forget the thief has a pretty poor inventory so it wouldn’t that challenging compared to -let’s say – a warrior’s arsenal.
So what happens once that specialisation happens ? Well with roughly 17- 25 abilities, half of them generally on pretty harsh cooldowns you end up with a gameplay that is INSTINCTIVE but becomes monotonous fast.
Sure the more you play, the more efficient you become. But fun and efficiency do not always go hand in hand.
That is the reason why I rolled an alt, just to get some variety of playstyle.
So, so far all i have done is point out my personal qualms with the GW2 combat system. Now i am going to present my suggestions :
-I would love to see lvl80 unlock a THIRD weapon swap. it is a simple fix, which I believe could be very easy to implement in the current game’s mechanics. Simply replace the “swap button” with “two buttons”, each specifically assigned to a chosen weapon set. All there is left to do now is merge it aesthetically in the UI.
I believe this could add that extra little bit of spice to combat, and allow players to develop better skills but also permit them to be more versatile than they currently are.
To be honest, it is my prediction that this will be the case in a future expansion. Most likely the one that will increase the level cap…whenever that will be.
-Aerial combat. Yes I said it. That most likely will never happen and I wouldnt mind that much if it didn’t. In fact, it probably would make a mess of the current mechanics and essentially has no reason to exist in the game.
Although it would be nice to see maybe a fractal or a special instance where you could have an air fight ( maybe trick the player by actually applying the same dynamic as water combat, simply disguising water as air and a new animations for movements? Quite a lot of efforts for a simple dungeon so as i said, probably not worth it). Also i never played Aion so I am no fanboy if that is what some are going to say.
-More varied traits. I know you currently can make two characters of the same class diametrically opposed using different trait specs at the moment…still though as OP pointed out, they both would be damage dealer in the end, no matter hard they tried to be different.
This could be changed by making traits, more varied and more exotic to one another eventually permitting those who are willing to go to extremes to be “almost” full support, or “almost” full tank…or “almost” full anything you could think of. And yes, I do understand that this would be much harder to balance, which would be particularly irritating in PVP…but at the same time, many things in PVP revolve around irritation so I’m sure dedicated PVPers could live through that change. In fact, the good ones probably would embrace the chance to craft even more unsual builds so they may tear apart their confused adversaries with certain glee.
Crafting an unusual DPS is fun, but they are all DPSes at the moment. And that is where some of the staleness can be found.
To close my wall of words, I believe Anet did the right thing by removing the trinity but didn’t leave enough room for any “real” variations in each class/specs. I also believe it could be easily remedied using current game mechanics since Anet made such a good job creating a fun and instinctive gameplay.
I am pretty positive they are already aware of some of combat’s shortcomings, and I look forward to see what they plan to implement to bring a bit of “oomph” back into the game. I know they can do it. Just have to wait and see.

Do the community a favor and DONT do this. I am the sort who always tries to be helpful in that zone, stopping to resurrect players, waiting around until there are five or six of us and taking down the champ. I will be the bait and run around so that others around can mine.
Here’s what happened one day last week: There were 12 others around and the champ was sitting right on the node. I shouted to the area, let’s take him down. Two others joined in, and ten others simply mined the ore and logged out.
My guard is pretty tough, spec’d for survival. I held the thing off for a long time, long after the other two were down. Eventually however I died. I sat there for like two hours, just testing to see how many in the community would risk a rez. Eventually another guard used a scepter to lure the champ away from me while a guildie of his rez’d me.
My point is really simple, you low level ori farmers don’t contribute anything to the situation. In fact, you detract from the rest of us being able to mine our ori and move on.
I recognize not everyone is going to be a team player here, but low levels don’t even have the option of being a team player. It’s pure selfishness.
My original post was infracted for being a bit harsh, I guess, hence I going to reformulate it in a kinder manner.
While your original assumption that players who would do this “trick” aren’t interested in clearing the room, AKA partaking into the fight might seem legitimate at first BUT it couldn’t be further from the truth.
As you can imagine, it can be rather impractical to take low level characters ( let alone one) all the way in a lvl80+ zone, avoiding/dodging mobs along the path and eventually gravivate all the way up the karka lair and to finally place oneself undetected right under the karka champion’s nose.
Also do not forget that you can only farm nodes once a day ( or 23 hours more precisely, if I am not mistaken), given the hardship of this task and how incredibly TEDIOUS it would be to risk having to do it all over again…just to login without knowing if the champion isn’t actually standing right on top of the node. Which is pretty frequent in most servers, due to “selfish” players like you pointed out whom simply run past, mine and then disappear.
Trust me on this, I completely understand where you are coming from with the “other” players who leave you to fight alone, or drop the boss’s aggro on you…or don’t even bother to help OR SIMPLY REPLY ! I really, really do understand your point.
You’ll find that players who have done this will probably come in, have their main go check it out and probably try to arrange the boss to be taken down…JUST so they may safely use their other characters to farm some extra orichalcum. So who is more of a team player in the end ?
So 23 hours per 1 extra character along with a fairly big risk, just to gain a dozen of orichalcums and maybe a gem or two. That mounts up to 50silver on the TP, IF you were the selling type.
Seems to me like a rather benign farming trick. Let’s say you managed to do it with two characters…then you’d be coming home with just 1 extra gold a day. That in my mind does not constitute an exploit.
This trick is harmless and all it does is generate a comfortable extra 1 g per day for those who give it a go.
To sum my point up, the issue isn’t who farms the node, but how you farm it :p

Wearing the commander tag in PVE is ridiculous.
Also a lot of commanders have no clue about WvWvW. They just spent 100g on a title. And last time I checked WvWvW doesn’t really provide a lot of gold.
I’m still waiting for the “red” commander tag bought with honor badges. I would much prefer to follow this guy.
Also OP what did you expect wearing commander tag in open world PVE ( LA is fine since it’s the main social hub) ? That people would immediately think “oh hey, he’s just directing his guildies”.
Lol waypoints, pois, etc can be linked to chat. That is the way that people use to find each other in PVE.
So if your question is “why people either don’t care or think I’m kitten because I wear my commander tag in PVE”, the answer is “because you wear a commander tag in PVE”.
" I feel…six feet tall !!!"
I was raised and bred playing sandbox games hence I got exploration in my gamer blood :p
Although to be fair, it’s never good to have too much of a good thing. Dungeons and WvW bring a nice breath of fresh air when it is needed.
Sadly the problem with exploration is that it can only be done once…unless the devs keep adding new zones ad libitum (which I doubt we’ll ever see in any game of any kind…ever) so yeah, it is a shame it works like that but it is good while it lasts. As you might have guessed, I already got my 100% world completion.
Really looking forward to their next big content update, I think the creative department at Anet have a real good grasp of what a beautiful virtual world can look like so kudos to them !
Since he is your stepson, I’m pretty sure you qualify legally as guardian and parents/guardians actually being the lawful account holders of their kids’ account is pretty common practice I believe for most MMO/ or subscription games.
Nobody will raise an eyebrow I’m sure

Southsun Cove just feels like a worthless waste of space… seriously, what is there to even do there?
You can reminisce about the good times you had that special weekend and – hang on, BARREL ROLL !!!!!
“ww11122333330000ssssssss5555”
“im a guardian we’ll be fine "
“brb biobreak”
and +1 for thread highjacking :p
i know that orr is milion more mobs but there are way easy events that u can solo and u get more rewards there here u dont get anything just grind those karka stupid sheels 1k to get accesory thing whic is not even accendet pointless grind
Hey I just met you
And this is crazy
But here’s a coma “,”
So use it maybe ?
Also karkas dont spawn in Orr. It’s Southsun Cove that you mean.
In which case yes, southsun cove is a bit pointless at the moment but the devs stated that they willwork on adding more content to this area.
“I’m gonna show you how great I am” – everywhere
“Healing skill is for noobs”
“If I can do this in Assassin’s creed, I can-”
“lol I’m gonna lead that mob train to that afk player it’s gonna be so lawl…wait what they are still chasing ME ???!!!”
“Look ! A noob ! I’m going to impress him by killing that vet/champ with my l33t skills”
“Is this too high for me to land saf-” in WvW
“I don’t see why everyone moans about underwater combat.”
“I look epic standing on this roof/ledge/cliff. Hang on, I bet I’d look even more epic if I was a bit more to the left. And a bit more…Just a little bit more now”

It’s not bug guys it’s feature to stop bots!
It’s actually even more fun watching new people that join this game on chat wondering why is whole world contested (mostly orr) and they can’t find players except in lower end areas while everyone is in fractals not even for ascended gear but just for loot.
It’s amazing they are obviously trying to keep this feature even tho they just admitted by the guy in charge of it that DR isn’t needed that their system of reporting and pattern recognition is working just fine, so why is it still in the game again?
It’s to make sure we don’t mess up the economy brah :p
Joke aside, I got not idea.
Maybe it is something that is needed to avoid farmers controlling the economy, and not just the bots…
Maybe it is to make sure people don’t get their legendaries as fast as some people did in the first 3 months (afterall they stipulated it was supposed to be a long term goal).
Maybe it is a crucial part of the loot tables codes and can’t be just removed that easily.
Maybe it is in place because bots are still present and therefore it’s still needed.
I could go on and so any of us could as well. Right now it sucks to make coin in open world PVE, that’s for sure.
I hope it gets remedied soon. I don’t mind being patient a bit longer. Ipersonally can handle doing dungeons more than I used to, etc. But it sure is annoying as I enjoyed open world farming too.
Nobody likes feeling boxed in their playstyle while playing an MMO. As I said, hopefully it gets fixed soon and we will all have more options to make some coin.
That would be lovely.
One does not simply run on the plains of Orr.
Tell that to my stealth specced thief.
That’s right you can’t. Cause he’s already ran past ya.
EDIT : to be fair, i know thieves got the advantage in terms of exploration. My mesmer alt who’s just clearing the Orr map at the moment is having a much tougher time getting rid of mobs chasing. But it can be done…sometimes xD
I was doing TA with guildies and feared the immediate reset. However we were pretty much done, and as soon we finished and started leaving the instances we were all hit with the immediate patch-up.
So my guess is they learnt from the mistakes and now put people in a dungeon on a special queue so they don’t lose progress. Kinda nice of them.
Better write a ticket man. Not much we can do for you here.
But I do empathize with you. Unless you’re one of those screwing with the economy… but I doubt it so get on Anet’s back and see if they can do a rollback of your account or something of the kind.
Never been in your shoes so wouldn’t know where to start. Sorry bro.
it’s actually fun how all of you just /lol all at him when he is right about bugs and dungeons
same happened with swtor year back … everyone who posted complain got dismissed by fanboys and then look swtor is pay 2 win game right now!
This,
I’ve already seen quite a lot of " I’m quitting " threads, not only that but I have 3 guilds I am in. 95% of all 3 of those rosters are NEVER online, ever. Even my friends from GW1 that all had GWAMM have moved on.
SWTOR had a gazillion servers, most of them with a miserable population. Their refusal to do anything about for months drove the majority of players away. It is kinda hard to play an MMO by yourself.
Most of GW2’s servers are full or high/very high. Right now the game is in a good place so the doom sayers have arrived a bit early for my taste.
Also SWTOR had about one the vilest communities I ever came across…flaming and trolling wars of the likes I’ve never seen before. But I guess it was inevitable when EA/Bioware crossbred Stars Wars with an MMO…
Just to say the comparison doesn’t hold.
Back on track, sure the game has got some issues, but which game hasn’t ? The elder scrolls are about the buggiest games I know and they are still the best at what they do. Not saying GW2 is the best MMO ever, but it does what it does pretty well. To me, ironing some bugs and helping to stabilize the economy/DR will be enough to accomodate most players’ needs.
However, I do feel sympathetic for the guy if he feels a game he was really looking forward to has let him down, but c’est la vie. Happens to every gamer. I’m sure he’ll find his happy niche eventually. Peace and Love man.

Orr will teach you the meaning of “run”.
All I know is that when I was leveling and gearing my main back in late september/early october I had no issue with buying/farming (mats and drops) him top notch gear (yes, rares and exotics for a lvl 60 toon) with a bit of budgeting.
Now with my alt who’s level 80 since a couple of weeks, I’m still carrying blues and greens that don’t really fit my desired spec. It’s tough out there lol.
Thankfully I am quite comfortable grinding dungeon tokens so I think that by late december I’ll be geared in rather nicely looking exotics.
But speaking from my own experience of playing GW2 the prices have kind of gone a bit insane recently.
It just feels to me that doing what I was doing back then to gear up isn’t suitable anymore
I am not a power trader, and I am not a farmer.
I am just a gamer. I do dungeons, I do the dragon bosses, I do events, I do WvWvW, i pretty much partake in most aspects of the game has to offer and intends me to play.
I am not throwing QQ trantrum, I am simply stating that what made sense a month back doesn’t make sense anymore.
I was gonna level another alt but I think I will hold onto that until I can start making some coin again.
Would be nice to see some sort of balance back in the game for the 80% majority of players who just want to play the game and grab some gear along the way.
Is this thread about kitten ? Because my kitten is gigantic.
More seriously, I’m running what I think is a bit of an unsual spec for my thief compared to the average glass cannon build so with my gear in tune with my spec, I like to think I can hold my own yes.
Being 80 or max level if you like isn’t about being the pwnx0rd, but rather working out your weakness and your strengths for your selected profession, and how your spec comes into that to affect the outcome of each fights.
I can generally tell straight away when a mistake I made is gonna get me downed/killed or whether a risk I took was worth it.
While obviously your goal as a lvl80 is to maximize your gear to increase your efficiency, if you can’t read the fights well and do not follow suit with the adequate rotation then you are going to struggle both in engame pve content or pvp.
Personally I think the game is great and the gameplay mechanic are pretty awesome, so making mistakes and learning from them is no issue for me. Elitists love bashing around “L2P” as a way to ascertain their superiority over gamers making certain mistakes, as if they have already worked it all out. Which is complete BS.
Have fun, find a playstyle you like, and keep practicing no matter what others say. Your enjoyment is what matters most and out of it you will increase your skills.
TL;DR embrace your chosen class, mistakes are good to learn, ignore elitists who are simply running the latest OP build like drones, gear is only boost and you’ll get there, game is fun and makes sense the more you play it. Classic endgame.
RNG makes sense to developers in monthly subscription games because they force the players to chase that carrot for months on end, which means increased income for the said games.
However with the B2P model, this attitude does not make sense, especially when you take into account that the higher levels of FotM kinda require the players who participate to be lvl80 in full exotic, who most likely aren’t going to buy any form of boosters (fractals are awful for karma and exp gain so no point)… maybe magic find booster I guess ? But since MF seems genuinly broken and you can reach 140-150% MF without the help of the BL booster it makes NO SENSE WHATSOEVER to implement RNG in this game.
Dear mr developers, you want people to stick around playing your game and ensure that micro-transactions carry on ?
Here is a tip coming to you right from the heavens : create a token booster : X% gain for X hour(s).
Now add a lot of loot to gain through tokens and guess what ? People will farm the fractals (or any other dungeon they might be after) like crazy, purchasing micro-transactions that make SENSE to them and the vast majority will stop complaining about RNG because everyone HATES RNG. Even those who got lucky do not like it because they know once more gear is released they will have to try their luck again…and might be so lucky this time. Only idiots who got lucky and can’t see past that one update are satisfied with this gear progression.
Just keep releasing loot and cool looking skins through token vendors on a regular basis to keep us happy.
I get it, you’re a business. Nobody invests millions just to make people “happy” and “having fun”. You want a return. Sure.
Well so do we. Investment needs to be rewarded. Nobody goes to a restaurant, orders a meal and may or may not get it. WTF lol.
The consequences is people stop going to that restaurant, no matter how appetizing the meals might be. RNG belongs with monthly subscription games.
You are not going to encourage us to buy gems when what is on the BL is utterly pointless for lvl80s, which is where each and everyone of your customers is eventually going to end up.
We don’t mind sticking around and helping you stay afloat Anet.
We’ll rub your back if you rub ours.
(edited by Groovy.6749)
Never got an exotic drop with or without MF gear. Tried both.
It is frustrating to know that unless you started playing, and played seriously during the first month (without the rose tinted glasses attitude where everyone is a happy noob AKA the first veteran generation to come) where the vents rewards and DR were much higher then you are the current economy’s kitten.
I’m not gonna lie, making gold isn’t the hardest task in the world. I often reach 9-12 gold before squandering it on new skins or mats for crafting etc.
But it is the current experience of many players who arrived JUST a little bit later than the rest to have reached lvl80 with full exotic (+ the stage where you craft your own endgame look by farming dungeons and crafting) without EVER having had an exotic drop.
Well that’s what’s happened to me. The bots are gone now, well for the moment at least, please increase the DR in general so we may get on with playing the game.
EDIT : I’d have to say the only place where I knowI’m guaranteed a rare at some point is the fractals, probably in order to encourage the players to explore the new content…but you made it so frustrating at the moment with the RNG drops…
I could deal with the farrival of the ascended tier, I could deal with with the RNG ring drops but I won’t deal with the fractal weapons.
I was one of those defending your stance with the implementation of the ascended gear, and saying that it still did not constitute a grind when most were/are still seeing red.
But no sir, that one there is too much. Before fractals, it might have taken “a bit” of grind to get where you wanted to be, and even if it was still a way off with the token system you always knew you were CONSISTENTLY getting closer…but RNG is the opposite.
Player A does 1 run, he gets it.
Player B does “amma gonna cry so many times I’ve done it” runs, still not the desired drop.
This is the reality of RNG, it WILL divide the community because of it is unreliable by definition. Nobody likes unreliability when it comes to putting effort in.
Would you bother turning in to work if your contract stated that you may or may not get paid at the end of the month, that whatever will be….will be ????
While this obviously isn’t work, the consequence will be the same. Those who are committed to your product will be turned off it. Not a smart move.
Do not treat your players like idiots, this isn’t the first game to implement RNG and those who have experienced it before know EXACTLY what this means.
You may not care because you have our money, but right now you do not have the monopoly of the heart.
Nobody is asking you to remove content, simply to make it fairer in its acquisition to those who have worked for it.
Thank you for reading, and hopefully listening.
