IMO QJ content is filler

I’m with you. There isn’t a single event that interests me that they have put out in these filler events. On the upside, I don’t feel like I have missed out on anything by not doing them. So since there are a lot of people that do enjoy them I’m not looking to see them removed because that would be incredibly self serving.

I would love to see something else besides running races etc.

Wait wait wait did I just get hit on the head or something? A user who dislikes something but actually takes the remainder of the playerbase into account rather than QQing about the content being removed and assuming everyone else agrees with the way they think?

Am… am I still on the GW2 forums?

(Yes I do like the Living Story. I dunno why I just really do so it’s good to hear someone actually take the players that enjoy the content into account. )

I'm not a hacker. I promise.

"Anything less than "Zerk" is being selfish"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: GunshyGamer.2076

GunshyGamer.2076

I don’t mind the MF gear elimination, really. But from there to say that anything that is not Berserker’s is being “selfish”, darn, that’s just intolerance akittens finest.

Toughness – doesn’t contribute to the party, selfish
Vitality – doesn’t contribute to the party, selfish
Healing Power (armour stat) – effect is negligible, waste of a stat
Boon Duration (armour stat) – negligible, useless
Condition Damage – Probably replacing a useful stat, cond damage is weaker than regular damage
Condition Duration – above

Magic Find – anything is better than this, full leech stat
Can’t think of any others. On the other hand:

Power: helps deal more damage to bring enemies down quicker, useful
Precision: increases chance of critical hits, crits do a base of 150% the damage of normal hits so you want crits to help deal damage
Crit damage: Makes your crits stronger, can be infinitely stacked with no worry, becomes very reliable extra damage with precision stacking

MF gear wasn’t “selfish”, it was just another alternative that ANet initially provided

“I will increase my chance of better loot and contribute jack all to the party” seems selfish to me.

OP, stop being a carebear, some stat combinations are better than others.

I use a tank warrior build focusing on toughness, vitality, and healing power.

First thing on your mind I know… selfish baw baw bawwww. Not quite. The way i have my build set up I can last an abnormally long time alive in dungeons and in most PvE areas I overheal any damage unless I’m just being swarmed with conditions or over 10 high level mobs… then my health goes down a bit but I have three skills that can heal me and nearby party members and that regain quickly.

So I’m near invincible.

Okay yeah selfish right? I sacrifice heavy damage for my own life. Well you see in most dungeons I run with others I play heavy tank regardless of lack of trinity. I get enemies on me while the rest of the party nails them down quickly without having to worry about their own kitten being fried, expecially zerkers with very little survivability.

So I do help the party. I help keep the enemies distracted and I even remember a time where the poison from the Spider Queen in AC managed to kill the rest of my party and I solo’d what was left of it’s health by myself to prevent a reset. Did the party get mad? No. Hell I had some people freaking out that I was taking so much crap.

I’ve also done several CoF runs, usually never taking longer than 10-15 mins even with me in the group. My point is… more builds are viable and I feel much more helpful and useful with my current build than I would with a zerker build. Yeah high DPS is good and all but if you can’t survive then it’s not gonna be useful for long.

In case some players are having this issue, I noticed that you can’t just select to fight a previous opponent but you must select the opponent THEN give a ticket at the guy who you would normally talk too to fight a new enemy.

I made this mistake once and got suspicious when I wasn’t put into a game for a while but instead of bawwing on the forums I played around and found out you had to talk to both, not just one person.

If you did do this though or weren’t trying to fight a past opponent then this does not apply to you. Guess you just had some kittenty luck as I get put in rather quickly in full servers most of the time and enjoy watching fights around me that other players are engaged in during the meantime.

I agree this was no puzzle and using your example this is coming from someone who actually had a good bit of trouble with the griffon JP. As for falling off with the sun you can just click 2 again after you pass the waterfall to cancel the effect before you fly off the edge. Use the lightning to get past the wind part although it isn’t that difficult to use wind for a few close by platforms. (Do Sekket’s Lab in Caledon and then tell me these platforms are a pain.) Then just stand at the lightning and get auto thrown across the gaps.

I know you’re just going to respond to me with, “I know it’s easy for you but not for me” but the fact of the matter is this isn’t WoW or like other MMOs. Not every quest giver or person will be laying on a flat area for you to run too and talk too. There’s vertical AND horizontal movement and it makes the game much more interesting, just like being able to dodge and move in combat, another feature not common to many MMOs. It’s what makes the game unique and if you don’t like that then there’s plenty other MMO’s that may suit your interests.

The topic title made me go o_O

I love you. I haven’t had this big a laugh in a long time.

Staying on topic though I was in a room today where everyone was working together to help others get their achieves. I had spent hours getting mine before hand so I knew how frustrating it could be. Sometimes I would just walk or sleep for 30 seconds or so before I even started running then end up in 2nd or 3rd place or waiting at the finish for the person who’s turn it was (I don’t remember the name of the skill but that teleport is amazing. ) It was great and fun as I was only there to get my 25 finishes for the other achievement and didn’t care about what place I came in but eventually a couple people came in who refused to talk or work with us and would always just run ahead and speed through it which kind of killed what we were trying to do. :/ I understand wanting to win in a competitive game and there are several of them in Sanctum Sprint, but in a game like that that is centered around helping others they were being kittens as the polite thing to do would have been to leave the game and join another where there was actual competition..

I posted this in another thread earlier that was filled with negative comments about the model reward but rather than letting it get buried there I would like to post it where the devs will likely read it as I want them to know that the work they’re putting into the game and it’s rewards truly is appreciated.

As my opinion to counter this sea of negativity I’ve seen before I for one would like to thank Anet for the model as it will give me a chance to see the ship and to show it to new players or players taking a break who may not have experienced the content while it was here. Yes I would have liked to see it in a bit higher resolution but I am not so picky to let that damage the quality of said reward. I understand space can be expensive and HD video can take a good deal of space.

Either way Anet just know that there are players who appreciate the reward. I found it worth my time and would have felt as though I missed out if I had not gotten it before the event ends. It is in my collection with my other unique living story items (Aside from the Ascended Karka Shell as that is on my Norn. ) and that I would LOVE to see more things like this in the future that allow me and others to view the living story content after it has gone. I love nostalgia so I love rewards like this. As the months pass on and the current content becomes more forgotten I will begin putting down the model in LA for others to see often.

Now all I need is a viewable video of the Molten Facility Dungeon from F&F as that has been my favorite content in game thus far. But seriously keep it coming Anet.

There’s one guild on Devona’s Rest in particular [RAIN] that keeps spamming both me AND my guild mate who are ALWAYS repped to my guild with invites. It’s not like they’re spamming people who don’t have guilds (which is still annoying) but they’re legitimately trying to steal people from other guilds without even saying a word, just spamming their guild with a lot of people and influence in an attempt to impress others. I’ve personally been getting an invite from the guild once every other day at least and know guild mates getting the same and I’ve asked the guild leader politely to please stop sending them to members of my guild but he didn’t even aknowledge my messages or reply. (And of course it still continued to happen.)

Please Anet give us a way to block this.

Here’s the thing though – I suspect a lot of people play GW2 (including myself) to get away from real world issues/events, not to be further immersed by them. I’d rather not see real-world analogues (camo uniforms, etc) in a fantasy game such as this.

As far as immersion goes I think a charr fighting with heavy machinery would look good in brown camo.

They could simply be named “Camouflage” to avoid any international drama due to other military forces around the world and the self-dyeing if they are a skin would allow anyone who wanted to show their support to dye the armor to whatever they liked. If the pattern is an issue it could obviously be altered slightly as to not identically represent any actual military force.

While it may resemble such it could obviously have it’s own GW2 fantasy look to it. All I’m really asking for is for some armor with a camo dye pattern or a camo dye in general. Not for an exact representation of real life military armor.

easy for database programmers – keyword ‘unique’ is self explanatory

I think a good middle ground would be keeping the word unique but making it so that the item is unable to be bought if one is already in the player’s inventory or equipped. That way the devs have little work, and the player won’t make a mistake.

As far as drops go it can be changed or not and not make a big difference. You don’t really lose anything if an item you have drops. It’s all RNG after all, not like you spent anything to get it.

My fiance introduced me to Guild Wars a while back. Playing MMOs has always been something we’ve done together because we’ve been forced to spend a lot of time apart from one another. She is going into the Navy and she’s adjusted her entire lifestyle with such dedication towards her goals that I could never even begin to emulate myself. I love her passionately and words alone could never explain how proud I am of her.

Today my fiance shipped out for boot camp and the realization hit rather hard. I was thinking what I could do to show my support for her. Seeing as Guild Wars is something that we play together all the time I came up with a really unique idea. I wanted to dress my characters in armor that would show my support. Given the current armor dying limits this has proved rather difficult though.

What if some camouflage dyes (or armor skins to allow self-dyeing to preferenced colors) were added.

I don’t know if this suggestion will be seen any more than any others on this list, but if any devs are reading this.. it would mean a lot. Not just to me but I’m sure to many other players as well with friends/family in the service.

Here’s why I agree with this suggestion.

FROM A RL PERSPECTIVE: I play this game with my fiance. She’s actually the one who got me hooked on it. She’s going into the Navy and is currently at boot camp but when she gets out we plan to get married soon irl. Since the game is one of the things we love playing and doing together so much it would be really awesome to be able to get “married in game” as well as real life. I’m really into the cutesy kind of ideas.

FROM A ROLEPLAY PERSPECTIVE: I am the kind of person who enjoys writing fanfics and backstories to my characters. My Sylvari mesmer’s story involved discovering that Magister Sieran of the Priory survived and finding her due to his romantic interest caused by her fun, carefree, adventurous attitude. Seeing as I’m still writing the story I don’t know if it will ever make it quite to this point but I think it would be cool to have a title or some indicator that my character is with Sieran. As far as roleplay goes though i can see it having the opposite immersion breaking effect if you see many people all running around saying they’re married to the same NPC.

Personal Nemesis

in Flame and Frost

Posted by: GunshyGamer.2076

GunshyGamer.2076

Out of curiousity, is there going to be a different Personal Nemesis based on race/class/whatever, or does everyone in the world have this one really upset person gunning for them personally simultanously?
I ask, because one of the few things I miss out of Champions Online was their Nemesis system, where you design a nemesis and select minions for them, and then go through one of several possible story mini-arcs before finally defeating them..and getting do another arc, either with the same nemesis, or a different one. Granted, that system may or may not work here, but it was still a nice bit of generated content that helped you feel more part of your own story.

Was totally thinking myself the other day that I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see this system implemented in GW2 in the future. As a big RPer I not only have created stories for my characters, but for the personalized enemies I have created for them to be their nemesis. If this system was introduced well… due to my RP nature I would play this game forever.

I suggest something like this before as part of a “visual only inspect feature”. I idea was like yours but it was also lets players view a players armor without stats in a window. My idea also had a short interdiction text, guild introductions.

You just reminded me…

ADDING ONTO MY PREVIOUS IDEA

It would also be great to be able to write a bio for your guild! My guild in particular, while doing all the things other guilds do (WvW/Dungeons/Missions/Etc.) also focuses heavily on RP and has a big lore friendly history that I crafted specifically for it. Unfortuantly right now the only way my members can see this lore is through the guild website which not all members visit frequently. It would be great to be able to put this on the guild page, maybe in a seperate tab! And if so DEFINATELY give way more characters than on the Message of the Day.

You know… thinking about this now, I heard Anet won’t let us keep our pet names due to the amount of space it would take up on their servers… so what’s the chance our characters/guilds would be able to have large bios? :/

I didn’t know what to expect going in, but it was the best dungeon run I have ever had to date with GW2! (And I went with a random PUG with no voice chat opposed to the fun I usually have on voice chat with my guild.) It was beautifully crafted and the dredge traps made me think of Batman: Arkham Asylum haha. The boss was challenging yet fun, and the same can be said for the mobs. Then the ending well… I won’t spoil it, but it felt so epic getting out of there hehe.

Anyways it may just be me, but this is the way you should begin going with all dungeons Anet. I love it! I will do many more runs, not for profit but out of enjoyment of the dungeon. I really hope it doesn’t disappear or if it does that it’s replayable in some sense! This was truly my favorite dungeon run I have ever done in the game.

I barely made any profit at all, yet I can’t wait to replay the dungeon with my guild mates later today. Anyways headed to get my skin now! Just thought I’d share my appreciation for this wonderful dungeon experience.

It’s a small cosmetic change but the kind of change that would mean a lot to me and other RPers.

So you are choosing to do 1 path of 1 dungeon and you think it takes too long? Other dungeons offer gear and weapons with the same stats so split time running them if you have already done your path 3 for the day. If you are set on the arah gear then you are only slowing yourself down by doing 1 path a day.

who told you I’m doing 1 path a day? I might have multiple characters

You do understand that you are choosing to farm the easiest arah path and then are complaining that it is too easy….

the rest are just as easy. also it’s the quickest..

I was talking with people on Tarnished Coast and they all agreed, it would be great if we could have some sort of indicator which we could toggle on/off that would show that we are actively role playing.

Some of my best gameplay experiences in MMORPG’s come from when I stumble upon someone and we just randomly happen to be role players – and both of us jump right into it!

IF we had such an indicator, we could actually see who else is actively looking to RP/IS RPing and this would cause LOT more great in-character meetings and interactions.

Suggestions for conditions and knockback!

GunshyGamer.2076

(2/2)

My favorite suggestion though comes with my idea for knockdown/trample effects though. I think that when the effect is completed and your character lies on the ground, especially large ones like what the Periscopes used to do, the player should be able to roll forward or backward from the ground in order to avoid another attack. For instance the ogres who knocked me down had me surrounded. Imagine instead though the second I went down in the middle of the group I rolled back behind one of them before the next knockdown was inflicted. I would have at least got out of the middle and had a little time to strategize to prevent it from happening again rather than being held.

This would not make you OP either as the knockdowns would still interrupt effects and players would still consciously have to remember to double tap away. Not to mention obviously if you have no endurance you wouldn’t be able to dodge out. It would add a level of player movement and control to one of the most frustrating character binding situations currently in the game. It would pull Guild Wars a bit further from most MMOs by making the combat feel even more alive and non-traditional. If you wanted to take it a step further (though it would be more work on the Dev end I’m sure given enemy AI and all) you could even add this to certain enemies after a knockdown effect is initiated by the player. It would work to make the world feel more living as is the goal, though I care more about the implemention to players more than I do mobs.

Imagine periscopes are the same they used to be for instance. After being obnoxiously thrown back you could roll forward towards it, getting a boost and head start to deal damage before being knocked back again. Or against mobs you could roll away to avoid a secondary attack or knockdown by a mob, trap, or anything that may hit you while you are down. (Which in some areas happens frequently.) It would add more strategy and, in my opinion fun to one of the most annoying aspects of the game.

Anyways I’ve ranted long enough haha. Once again I love the game and I hope that my suggestions are seen and considered by both the Devs, and supported by the community. I will definately be following this game for years to come and look forward to see future updates and improvements.

Suggestions for conditions and knockback!

Hello forum. I have been playing for a good month or two now and have 2 80’s, one of which is a tank that can solo most of the PvE world with little challenge. (Aside from a few choice champions, usually the higher level ones which is understandable.) The reason I mention this character in particular is that I have been moving from zone to zone for world completion and while there is little that can challenge my warrior on a power vs. power scale there are a few other annoyances I have come across that I would like the devs to see.

I will say now though that I am not complaining towards Anet. I have played various MMORPG’s throughout the years, WoW and LOTRO to name a few favs, and this is the best of them all that I have played to date imo. I see a humongous potential in the game and I only hope that I can offer some very helpful suggestions as to make said game even better! This thread is not an outlet to complain, as every issue I address I shall also counter with a suggestion to how I believe it can be improved. So if any Devs read this, please respond and let me know what you think of the suggestions I offer. It always makes me happy to know that the developers are watching what the community offers for their game.

But I shall begin. The most annoying thing I have come across in my quest for world completion thus far has been the way that some conditions are executed and the player’s lack of control when affected. I am not talking about damage effects like burn, bleed, and poison as these are fine. The main effects I am speaking of are fear or paralysis. (Not sure of the in-game name but where the purple chains hold you in place.) Also, despite them not being effects, I am going to include knockdowns and tramples into this as well since my advice applies well to them also.

I am semi-relunctant to offer the suggestion of reducing the use of said effects, though I would not be against it. The reason I am partially against this is (from an RP perspective) that it is the mob’s way of strategy and changing it may interfere with the feeling of such. In PvP/WvW players will use whatever effects they can to control the situation and mobs are no different. It can be really annoying though when a player is fighting multiple opponents and it gets spam attacked by each one. For example, I was completing the Fields of Ruin map and had to go through an Ogre camp. I am not sure if by intention or glitch but there was a group of 10+ ogre mobs clumped into one small area that I accidently ran into. Given my current tank build I could hold them off rather easily, but since each one had a knockdown effect as their first or sometimes second attack and I could do nothing to counter it (Stability skills unfortuantly have little room in my current build.) I was laying on the ground for a good minute or two taking the hits by all the Ogres and keeping myself healed until I could stand and actually fight them.

It could be possible to make mobs have a random chance when spawning of having the control effect or not, and if not give them higher attack or defense capabilities to make up for it. Sort of imitating the idea that different mobs have slightly different builds etc. Once more from an RP perspective it could be as if a few of the Ogres were weaker but trampled enemies to keep them down, while the rest were stronger and took the DPS assault afterwards to finish off the paralyzed foe before they could rise. It would also be a great opportunity to introduce more strategic tactics like this between enemy mobs with varying effects.

The most important thing though I believe would be to give players some control options during the times that they are affected by these effects. No player likes having total control taken from them and there are ways to allow players to still be able to battle the effects, yet having the same/similar effect that they originally did. For example the paralyzing effect could maybe have you tap 1 to struggle and break free faster, or for a more puzzle like experience maybe a random skill between 1 and 5 will light up on your bar and you press them as they appear to break the effect faster. For fear effects it would be nice to allow players to control what direction they run in fear, even if it is limited a bit (Turning slower to prevent complete 180 degree turns back at the mob for instance) in order to avoid running into another mob or group as I have seen happen in dungeons and PvE multiple times.

Introduce Runescape-esque quests.

While I’ll leave Runescape as a distant memory to back in the day when I was around 13 and first introduced to MMOs. (It was my first) I will say that the way the game handles quests has always been a good one. The game does not have near the amount of quests as most MMOs BUT (and this is a BIG but) every single quest is unique in it’s own right! There are no tedious farming quests, escort quests, etc. Every quest is original and different and some take a long time to justify the lower amount of quests. It’s a quality>quanity factor that I feel many more MMOs should look into. I’ve personally only played the free Runescape back in the day but I completed every quest and it took me a good long while despite only 30 or so quests (Not to mention the near 300 I never experienced from the paid content) and not one quest in my opinion resembled that of a standard MMO and every one of them was fun and unique!

So while, as I said, I would not go back to playing RS simply due to it’s younger community and focus towards younger players (Not to mention I’ve been spoiled by GW’s graphics) looking into some of these very unique quests, even if not many were added at a time, could be a great way to add some more leveling and end-game content to Guild Wars that pulls it from the traditional MMO crowd. Maybe it could be introduced a quest or two at a time with achievements for completing them and on a monthly/bi-montly scale similar to the Living Story. (Except these quests won’t go away.)

One of the many reasons why I am a norn.

I almost agree with everything you’ve said.
However; you say all that and then give an image with a human-centric background?! Raven’s Wings!
It’s a great shot of yours, but your character should be out and up in the mountains where there’s snow underfoot and the air’s crisp and fresh!

Here let me show you…

Whoa where is that? o.o I completed all of the Shiverpeaks 100% but I don’t remember that kind of view. I may just be forgetting though haha. I have horrid memory. :p

And since people are sharing screenshots… ALL HAIL DRAGON!

Yes, mine is a necromancer. You can tell by the bugged staff looking like a scythe. I mixed T1 shoulders chest and shoes with the T2 legs and the Dry Bones gloves from the karma vendor. I used I think ebony dye stone dye for the fur and midnight green dye to break the color up and to keep with the necromancer theme.

Heres a screenshot of the selection screen, you cant really see the shoes due to the rocks.

Nice. I want to get the T3 legs personally for my Norn.

Speaking of which here he is. Asgrond The Mighty, Champion of Jormag and loyal to Dragon! Decked in near full Temple Armor and the shield from AC. (Planning on replacing it with the corrupted shield and my sword with Jormag’s Breath once I can amass over 5g in more than a week. :p)

Hit 80 a while ago, at a loss for what to do

Hit 80 on my Necromancer and Im now at a loss for what to do on it. I already have full CoF armor, and two exotic weapons (Coldsnap, and Final Rest.). I have nothing to work for anymore, especially since their are no legendaries that really suit a necromancer. I would run fractals but every group I get is just plain stupid, like no brains whatsoever. “WHAT DO U MEAN I CANT MELEE JELLYFISH?” Like god why.

Is there anything I could do thats fun? Or should I just make an alt? And if I do make an alt should I roll a ranger or a guardian? (Looking for fun here, I dont care if elitist groups will take me or not.)

Not sure if it’s just because I’ve only done fractal 1 so far or that I’m just a kitten tank… but um… I melee’d the jellyfish with no problem and minimal life loss. o.O

Heh 1 is not a very good representation of that fight. You are also supposed to use the electrified cages for the fight but when we did it for the first time brute forcing through it wasn’t that bad either.

The problem with meleeing the boss is not because it’s dangerous to do so but greatly increases your chance of being eaten. When you get eaten it becomes immune to damage which makes the fight longer than it needs to be.

Oh I see that makes sense. As I said I haven’t dived much into FotM yet so forgive my ignorance, I just remember tanking the thing and everyone nailing it (and it’s minions) with DPS while I did so. But as I mentioned before it was only on 1 haha.
