Funny you should ask. Yes. Yes I am. Severely bored. Its weird too that having a specialization from the start would have actually taken my mind off of the slow start. After about 4 hours of play i feel like i have done nothing in game. In fact I havent….due to design.

Btw I read all the comments at work (since HoT launch) of people complaining about the gated grind content and thought they were entitled whiners. I was wrong. For boredom reasons alone, give people specializations.

Our access to super speed seems pretty solid. Good enough from what they are trying to do with it.

The problem is superspeed itself. Not only does it not stack, but its inherent effect is pretty lackluster.

Also, Rapid Regeneration does not seem to scale with Healing Power. At all.

Youre right. I agree with you super speed is lack luster. Even if it scaled with rapid regeneration it would be lack luster at the expense of everything else….

I main an engie and rarely play a thief. You need a buff. Period. Mesmers and condition anything run a muck while thieves are a mosquito in spvp and wvw. Swatted away.

From the top:

Hammer 1: weak and slow (boost damage and/or increase speed)
Hammer 2: great
Hammer 3: clunky and unpredictable (between leaps could be shortened. Also doesnt work that well as a gap closer)
Hammer 4: good
Hammer 5: great

Stealth Gyro: If it would stay close this could be more useful. Also could use a little bit bigger radius) Tool belt skill is surprisingly more useful then i thought. Good CD too.

Purge Gyro: Didnt use. Seems lackluster. Poison field is underwhelming.

Bulwark gyro: I used this one the most .5sec of watchful eye would be better. Decent TB skill. .

Shredder gyro: Up the strike damage. Also its TB skill seems better if it could be ground targeted.

Blast gyro: Fun but way better options out there. TB skill super speed increase to 5sec. at least.

Medic gyro: Healing turret is way better. Purge gyro could have been merged with this.

Overall the scrapper is fun. Gyros are going to need some buffing. What i said above were only minor suggestions imo.

I would like to ask you for two changes to the hammer.

Hammer #4:
The first press on the spell will do what it already does.
On second press, you will cancel the Shock shield block and throw a piece of electrified scrap metal at your target for x dmg. This attack has a 900 max range.
If you have not blocked any attacks when going to the second press on the spell, than the cooldown will be reduced by half.

This is the general idea.
It could be changed a bit.
Maybe something like a cripple or so added to it for example.

I like the hammer 4 idea.

Disagree for the following reasons.

1) Good place for new players to get some gold, items, mats, whatever

2) Good place for veteran players to stock up for HoT

3) Pretty boring grind for the rewards(Trains only)

4) The rewards from SW may not be as useful for HoT if youre stocking up. Due to time gated crafting, specific rewards for accomplishing X(whatever that may be), ascended salvaging, areas having specific materials, ect. Some of these are just guessing.

5) Good way to reward casual and hardcore players

6) The TP seems fine but thats just my opinion

If they were considering nerfing SW i would rather see them increase VW difficulty and/or increase dry top rewards.

Not meta….ah this one i can answer with ease….

1) No stability

2) lack of back line or front line ANYTHING that another class can do better.

3) liability when playing compared to the current meta of wvw or gvg professions.

4) Redundant, but gvg in wvw will dominate. If you are not meta you are not in. And engies are not.

Can you impress and stand your own, sure. Will you last in the long run? NO. Its that simple. Engies are great roamers but not significant zerg contributing to fight type professions. You can do damage and kill and help. But you will not dominate like some. These are GvG specific professions. In other words, good engies can have fun in wvw if they haul yeah but others will get frustrated…

I usually kitten but i will be somewhat constructive here.

Is there a site of the latest tournaments with each team, profession of the team and latest build they are using? With their names and general bio available? I like Five gauge(engineer) and follow his builds(along with wolfineer). It could help the pvp community to better hone their skills. Having a general anet daily upgraded site based on the criteria above would be helpful, who would be in favor?

Or does this already exist?

Thank you for bringing this to everyones attention. The only reason i play any other mode is because i need gold or something unique i cant get in wvw. And now that i have seen this, wvw is obviously a low priority. Definitely has impacted my choice to get HoT which was originally to get the ultimate edition.

Take pvp with a grain of salt. Seriously. Colin already stated this is balance (lol). So find the most OP build and use it. Or “meta” or OP build which is basically meta for its time.
I mean think about it, has there ever been a game to promote itself around balance…of course not….its about finding the most exploitative build and using it. AKA meta…. others will run their favorites. Then these same people will come on the forums and complain. Its the life of gaming these days.

All my answers will be in regards to WVW because thats all i care about.

1) The range is terrible now. For them to do any concrete damage you have to be close and running a good damage build. That means your dead against a zerg. And you have to hump a keep wall to get your grenades to hit. Edit: been playing wvw for a while and the more i play them the worse they feel…thats including the bug. wow.

2) Mortar. Now that the range is not good with nades in wvw the mortar is basically a must if youre not looking to get eaten alive by an enemy zerg. Please don’t reduce the damage on AA this is fine now especially with all the damage in wvw right now. Not to mention after the barrage bug is fixed. Edit 2: After playing wvw more then i have touching this would be suicide for the profession.

Elixir X is still not great even with moa(even though its an awesome idea). The randomness of elixir X again means death in wvw. I think this needs a complete rework (keep moa).

Supply crate is still ok and the separate med kit drops makes sense. Overcharging is great too especially with and extra healing turret cleanse + blast.

3) Im not using any of these right now.

4)They do? Seems like less for wvw. I’m not saying you’re wrong maybe im just trying to find a good one.

5) Hate it. Too much separation between skills. Maybe there’s some kind of support build i don’t know of yet.

6) No. Condition cleanse. AOE heal.

7) It is lackluster. Building up hits is what you’re trying to avoid. Doesn’t make sense to me. Reduce CD at least and something else to make it good. Maybe an added effect the was streamlined kits works but when you activate a gadget.

As a side note, I really hope hammer is nothing short of AMAZING for wvw. Because all this close combat is useless unless you have warrior/guard profession stats/gear etc

necros are a huge problem now for engies mainly in pvp in general. The lack of condition cleanse is the main issues. Not necessarily saying 1v1 but the pressure on us is huge….almost to a paralyzing effect. What was up with all the complaining necros in pvp?

Then they’d better actually be useful, first off. Personally, I doubt that they’ll be Minions (given that we already have Turrets, and Turrets get treated badly to begin with) and Spirits is right out, given the theme of the Engineer being ‘no magic.’

So, they’d have to be a whole, fresh skill type…which is also unlikely, given that, as of now, I have heard of no new skill types or weapons being added. Additions seem to be ‘this class is lacking a thing in this department, let’s see what can be done,’ after all, so far.

Really, I’m just going to lean toward the Elite spec’s new mechanic being the drones, in some way, given that the Engineer already has a minionlike skillset, though I’m not sure what skills are likely to be added. Guardians get Traps, Mesmers get Wells, Necros get Shouts…maybe it’ll be Survival, Tricks or Deceptions, or maybe they’ll decide to throw in Signets or some other magical thing for reasons, and the drones will be the passive/active for that. Who knows?

true but drones could play off the magic sense of it…im just posting in hopes that this wont be it…the rage.

They’ll probably either be representations of the new Utility skills, a product of the Elite Mechanic, or something the Hammer creates (like how Mesmer weapons create illusions, say, perhaps).

They’re unlikely to be bars of defiance (players use stability, after all, and I don’t think I’ve heard anything about that changing) or buffs, unless the buff is unique to the Elite Engineer, and I can’t really imagine anything like that happening.

Will you force WvW players to do PvE content for the new class specialization?

Currently sitting on around 7 % world completion on all my characters, not very keen on the idea. Will there be an alternative like the current trait book merchants?

WvW has always been based on your PvE gear (which is good) but you have never been forced to actually do any PvE content. (which is also good)

Will it stay that way?

Map completion in WvW was recently removed from World Completion, to not force PvE players into WvW. Will you now force WvW players into PvE?

World completion for me feels like a soul sucking chore. I completely hate it. There is no other way to say it. I hope they figure something else out or this will be it for me. Map completions sucks the hardest.

Pretty sure their reasoning for removing soloq and adding unranked was that majority of players wanted to have a place where they can play casualy with their friends and not being stressed about leaderboards. If it’s really true, that’s another thing.

This is a fantastic idea. How about there be a solo queue and a team queue! Imagine if ANET had such a great idea and then didn’t change it for a poor idea.

Two points though:
1. Good teams don’t queue in unranked. It is typically new teams or those wanting to mess around with new specs.
2. The issue is the matchmaking. There should never be a PUG teams vs a 5 person premade. NEVER. I don’t care if the 5 person premade has been waiting 30 minutes. If they are not happy with the wait, then they can queue into ranked.

Right heres the thing i understand, make it so that rewards match the skill level. This will encourage the proper teams to que in there rank along with however anet chooses to decide fair teams(hopefully better).

On a random note my friend was telling me about counter strikes system for ranking…sounded good. I dont know much about it, changing would be involved and maybe its meant for a separate post but something designed for a mmo spvp design could work here….thoughts….

I don’t want to punish new people trying. I want Anet to put solo q back in the game. In the mean time, I’m not going to hinder myself competitively because Anet wants to be ridiculous. Before I got really busy with work (before this new season), I would always play several unranked before going into ranked. This was whether I was solo or not.

Simply put, there needs to be a separate q for those wanting to solo and those wanting to go in with teams of 2-5. It’s really that simple.

The whole matchmaking needs to be redesigned. Issues with it:

whole parties(probably on ts or whatever) vs all pugs

5 party guilds(obviously on ts or whatever) vs all pugs

Experienced players vs first timers(including new to professions) trying to l2p but cant bc the system sucks.

and thats just the most obvious that could change a lot.

Practice doesn’t count really because you get the same experienced players just owning people who obviously need to l2p.

Its tons of fun.

Should there be changes to engineers to make them more useful in gvg and wvw zergs?Last week when a commander was splitting up the useful classes he finally got to engineers and rangers. “Re-roll” is what he said and honestly I cant blame him. This is not the first time ive heard this. Roaming is fine and ive done plenty of that but I would like to feel like im making more of an impact in wvw then flipping camps and random fights. Any thoughts on this or anyone experience something similar?

Not only would an individual loyalty rank system be great but what about a GUILD LOYALTY RANK SYSTEM as well.
