Essentially:

Proofs of Heroics will let you buy Heart of Thorns Hero Points, and HoT Runes, Sigils, Recipes, etc.

The New Currency will let you buy Path of Fire Hero Points, and PoF Runes, Sigils, Recipes, etc.

The reason for tihs separation is because when you use a Notarized Scroll of Heroics, it doesn’t just give you 1/10 Hero Points. It basically instantly completes a random Hero Point for you. So, it makes sense to distinguish between randomly completing a HoT HP and a PoF HP, especially for people who own one but not the other.

this honestly annoys me. For what purpose can PvE players unlock their elite specs in a single evening but WvW players are hard time gated? Atleast WvW players had to prepare to get elite specs on day 1 but now all that preparation is just kinda wasted.

Do you not read or something? You will still be able to buy the Notarized Scroll of Heroics and Notarized Scroll of Maguuma Heroics to get Hero Points to max out your elite spec on minute 1.

No the new currency grants a new form of heroic points so that your current hero points and current chests and current heroic notes will contribute nothing to getting your new elites. farming for the new elites starts on launch day not a minute sooner. thats the entire purpose for the new currency.

That’s how I understood it too. I just can’t imagine Anet allowing people
with thousands of accumulated heroic proofs that would allow them to unlock every single hp in both the core maps and Hot maps, simply being able to apply those unused points to all the new elite skills on all their toons on launch day.

He is saying it’s hard gated (wrong word to use really), because you now have to grind this new currency from day one to buy the notarized scrolls that unlock the new PoF hero points. Your stock piled proof of heroics cannot be used to buy the scrolls to unlock the new maps hero points.

wow itll take like 10 minutes to wander around to the channel hero points in 1/2 the maps and get ~100 of the 250 points youll need and the other 150 are prolly already unlocked on your characters how is this a big deal lol

If you played the HoT maps at all you’ll know that’s not true and that initially some of the hero points were either insanely hard to get to, or were guarded by champs/veterans that you needed a group to take down. So if Anet is true to form, none of us are unlocking an elite spec in a single evening, never mind “ten minutes”.

A big problem I see with the roaming scene is that the biggest offenders (thief/daredevil) continue to receive only micro-buffs and avoid the nerf-bat every single patch.

This just isn’t true, and I don’t even play thief anymore. A couple of patches ago they nerfed back stab, making it that you can’t just spam back stab from stealth on a miss until you connect. There is now a one sec cool down on all stealth attacks on a miss. You might argue that this doesn’t change things all that much since (good) thieves learn to adjust their position to make their chances to land the stab count. But still, it was a substantial nerf to one of thief’s core skills.

That happened over a year ago. Although technically a nerf, it was an excellent balance move and should have been done a lot sooner. And yeah, it did absolutely nothing to curb thieves/DD from dominating the roaming scene.

LOL… to state the obvious, one man’s nerf is another man’s “excellent balance move”. :P

I even asked the admins politely the first 5 times and they outright refused when I said “can I please get manually verified.” This is now the reaction you see from me due to this. But how nice that you all agree with exclusionary behavior that occurs in a vacuum and is even counter to what admins publically state they are willing to do.

Or transfer to another server. Please don’t though.

Viper or Valkyrie. The ideal would be Power, Ferocity, Condition Damage, but it doesn’t exist.

Not yet but soon. One of the PoF reveals was a new 4 stat gear set called grieving. Power and Condition damage as the major stats, precision and ferocity as medium stat.

I’d like to start off by saying the WvW team works hard to keep up with forums and also reddit. Your feed back and discussion is awesome and we love reading what you guys have to say. The unfortunate reality is we cannot reply to every post and so it may seem as though we aren’t reading things.

I’ve stated in a previous thread that deleting worlds and letting players choose a new world is something we have considered in many forms. At this time we do not have a solution that we feel solves enough of the issues with population balance while also hitting enough of our requirements for a change to be made.

As I said above we love the discussions and suggestions you guys have for WvW this particular problem is tricky as you guys don’t have all the details we are working from. A lot of the ideas we’ve seen have been well thought out and detailed they fall short because you guys are working from a limited perspective and not solving the whole issue.

What perspectives are missing?

They have made it pretty clear in the past that if they were to give us all the data on population figures, movement, etc… which would clear up our limited “perspective”, it would also leave the system open to exploitation by us the players.

The Black Gate Issue

So, about BG being popular ‘issue’, as a pug in BG, I would attribute it to the solidarity of the community, the good relationship between active guilds and the great atmosphere that many veterans earnestly foster. I have many alt accounts in different servers where I occasionally jumped in wvw to farm gift of battle for. The team/map chat in BG is generally more tolerable, less meme, less misogynistic, less raging and very clear in callouts, objective watching status, etc. Outside of reset day, we never queue in all maps, only EB is queued. We have many commanders who patiently take in pugs, train them and float. They respond very quickly to our scouts’ call and scouts in BG are strong in numbers and quality. For the last 2 months, I’ve seen guilds departing from BG because they couldn’t find fights in our matchup and it’s not the bad thing. In general, BG having a solid militia has something to do with the efforts to make wvw fun and fair to everyone in our server. It’s always bustling with activities there.

When you have enough people to dominate every timezone, why would anyone on BG complain? There might be a couple of timezones where you (BG) have some competition numberswise, but when BG has everything tier 3, and the other servers have most of their stuff paper, they’ll never win a skirmish.

I’m sure your community is fantastic as long you have the numbers to steamroll every other server.

Oh please. There are at least a handful of servers (JQ, TC, YB, Mag, all the way back to SoR) that have enjoyed some time on top as the no. 1 server in WvW.

JQ if I remember correctly absolutely dominated T1 for practically a whole year at one point with BG struggling just to stay in the tier. Yet all those servers have eventually fallen and fallen hard, except BG. And yet you’re trying to tell us that BG’s community is only “great” when we’re winning ?

I guess the communities of all those other servers mentioned above must stink then since at the first sign of trouble everyone jumps ship. ;-)

This weekend bums me out so bad as I see they other classes rejoicing in their cool new stuff, and I got to dislocate my retinas rolling my eyes so hard at the renegade kit.

LOL… you obviously haven’t been following the other professions forums or you’d see that the majority have been disappointed in their classes new elites… with the exception of the Holosmith… people love that ! ( look out for incoming nerfs to that one).

played it for the past 5 hours only wvw. for a wvw player the bow is a nice addition (could use some tweaks but not bad) but the skills are awful. It seems to me if they made the renegade spirits invulnerable then that would make a world of difference (and it would make sense because they are ghost after all). As is, they just die when summoned from all the aoe. If it remains this way i could see this, at best, as just using the trait line without the legend, which would be a real bummer because then i wouldn’t have access to dragon stance.

Yeah I basically second this. The bow does give you some nice aoe damage but kalla’s utility skills need some serious work. And that heal, good Lord. It’s like a death sentence if caught out of place while zerging and need an immediate heal.

POF Elites - Changing the face of War

Rev will get more use in WvW as its resistance will become more and more of a frontline backbone with Condi revs and Condi nekros getting stronger. meanwhile Ventari revs will still be the midline backbone as they are the only thing in game that can counter both condis and raw damage with their almighty tablet

Nekro will probably make a switch to Scourge the aoe tagging potential Condi bombing and generally more range and support options.

Elemenalist will stay tempest the melee options provided by Weaver dont make up for its overall squishiness enough to make it a frontline fighter tho weaver roamers will be very strong.

Engineer will see more warrioresque roles in frontline combat but will still ultimately be a roamer class

Mesmer will stay chrono for group content and either/or for roaming

Warrior will likely go spellbreaker its anti zerg potential is off the charts.

Guardian can do whatever it wants every guardian build is viable

Ranger will pick its new elite spec for the sole fact of its the only way to make its pet not 100% worthless infact it makes your pet a legitimate part of your build also the auto save on down will save them.

Thiefs will be thiefs the elite spec is just another option to allow them to roam it doenst make them super viable in zergs but it helps giving them the ability to target the eles and simply eliminate them.

Like he says, Renegade elite is far more a boost to condi than power set up. Your second core trait should be Corruption. The third should be Invocation since Renegade also feeds off of Fury in its traits.

The Condi domination, and possible solution

Every successful guild on BG that we (JQ) face is using a power meta.

They use a coordinated Revenant CoR / Phase Smash bomb.

We should be discussing how 5+ people being instantly downed by CoR from 1200 range is bad for the game.

In addition to the fact the meta is no longer condi I will add the condi builds were damaged quite badly by the food nerf.

No. Just no. There hasn’t been a power meta since the SoI nerf. Every credible guild is running condition spike. Condi revs are overall phasing out pure power revs.

Heh… wish it were so. I’m also on BG and whenever I bring my Condi Rev I’m getting side long glances from the Tag *cough*GOF*cough* and eventually a comment drops that they really need power Revs for the CoR and other hammer skills because dps is too low.

Fairly sure Renegade elite will finally convince the Doubting Nancys out there though that Condi is better.

As mentioned, when HoT first came out they forced the WvW population to grind the new maps with everyone else too but after the outcry they later introduced hero points that you got through leveling ranks.

Getting Hero points via WvW wasn’t available at launch of HoT. This was a concession given by Anet a bit later.

They announced they were doing proof of heroics on Oct 19th 2015, HoT launched Oct 23rd 2015.

It’s as if people are just making things up.

Exactly. I don’t care what date that link says, I remember clearly having to haul my butt over to the new maps under protest to grind hero points. I also remember the hue and cry about it and ANet giving in afterwards.

That may be true, but they’re going to have a rough time in PvP.

Renegade takes all the weaknesses rev has and multiplies them. If you thought dealing with condi bombs was rough before, enter Kalla, a stance with no cleanse or invulnerabilities and equip your short bow, a weapon with zero blocks or i-frames. Now compound the problem by forcing you to choose between having a heal or having a stun break—since they’re the same ability, you’re going to either have to either burn it early or eat some hard cc.

Most likely, you’re going to have to dedicate your entire second stance and energy just to defense and escapes… Either it be Mallyx resistance spam on yourself while running away or Shiro’ing yourself the f out of there before you get bombed in the first place.

I think people sick of being a boonbot are probably better off just using PoF as an opportunity to roll a new class.

Although I’m sure renegade will be fine’ish for PvE… I’m not sure if its dps potential seems good enough to eek its way into the raid meta with how much pure pewpew some of the other dps classes are getting, and I don’t think it’s utility really brings anything desirable to that scene either as a dps/support role, but maybe… At least it’ll melt faces in fractals probably.

I don’t believe anyone in their right mind thinks that Renegade will be a thing in SPVP. But then again, Revenant in general wasn’t exactly screaming for play in that format either, other than maybe for those fairly high skilled players I suppose.

but I do think Renegade will become meta in WvW due to it’s offensive condi -bombing capabilities, CC (aoe pulsing daze is as good as it gets, particularly when combo’d with boon steal sigil on interupt) and support (10 sec -33% reduction in condi dmg, group life steal and group bleed dmg). Mallyx will obviously still be wanted too as being a resistance spam bot is still fairly mandatory in that game mode.

People forget that the invocation line has a stun break on legend swap and if you have mallyx as second legend, as everyone will since renegade heavily promotes Condi play, Pain absorption acts as stun break too. So don’t see why everyone is moaning about having stun break tied to heal. We all know that everyone will just save that one for a true “oh kitten ” moment when cc’d to hell and ability to both heal and move at the same time becomes hella important.

Here’s sort of how it goes:

Power will always take Devestation and Sword/X
Condi will always take Corruption and Mace/Axe
Any build will always take Invocation.
Then your Elite Spec.

That’s about it for Open World… Mallyx/Jalis is top dps spec for condi in group play, but I find Mallyx/Glint much better for solo play. Glint gives you perma fury/lazy perma swiftness and a full HP reset vs AI… Jalis gives you… hammers to proc more crits for torment and some okayish power damage to supplement your condis (a lot less since the last patch “fixed” them tho.)

Renegade will change a lot of condi play in PvE, but based on the previewed info we have, it feels way too squish pants for PvP and WvW, and I can’t see it replacing Mallyx/Glint in the current WvW guild fight meta.

These are the Elite Specs for the revenant Renegade.

Minor Adept – Ambush Commander – When you critically strike, or attack your enemies from behind or their flanks, you’ll inspire yourself with Kalla’s Fervor.
Gain access to Citadel Order abilities.

Major Adept – Ashen Demeanor –
Disabling a foe cripples your enemy, which leaves them vulnerable and inspires you with Kalla’s Fervor.

Major Adept – Blood Fury – Fury increases the duration of bleeds you inflict. Gaining fury inspires you with Kalla’s Fervor

Major Adept – Wrought-Iron Will – Evading an attack inspires you with Kalla’s Fervor and grants boons to nearby allies

Hmmm… so the core Corruption trait already gives a 20% boost to Torment damage.

Renegade trait will now allow you to boost bleed damage by 25%.

Kalla’s Ferver can stack up to 20% damage on top of the above boosted Conditions, plus increase our other Condi such as Confusion and Burning by same 20%.

LOL… WvW Condi bomb incoming !

Spell Breaker will become mandatory in all squads.

Edit: forgot about Ferocious aggression in Invocation trait (additional 7% condi dmg with fury).

Soulbeast, for example, also hasn’t gotten much attention from the peeps who were in the press/partner preview. We know the minor adapt and the grandmasters, but nothing of the rest in-between.

No, I’m saying it’s not playable in the current preview weekend that’s going on as I’m writing this – none of the new elite specs are. We’ll be able to play them in the next one, which is, as you say, next week.

Glider poll for players here since launch

I like gliding in WvW. I just wish the enemy could not just glide away from me. Seems broken. Maybe I am one of the few whom think this? Other than that Gliding is a lot of fun.

I think not being able to glide while in combat (same as not being able to reach max run speed while in combat) would solve this problem in that it would restrict gliding to just a QoL improvement. Do that plus sort out the exploits and I can’t see why anyone would still be against gliding.

Hated it when it was announced and hate it even more after the first weekend. Gliding in WvW is complete crap and should be removed. The sooner the better.

Are you a Commander by any chance ? :-D

Reason is I’ve seen a couple tags (well one in particular) on my server who absolutely refuse to use the glide mechanic… almost as if to prove a point. When everyone else is jumping out of garrison and gliding towards wherever, he just jumps straight down into the water and swims across. Same thing from Hills and just about anywhere else. Just prefers to take the old fashion way thus forcing the rest of the zerg to “wait up”.

Even when we take Fire Keep (which is a gliding paradise when you own it), it’s the same thing.

Thankfully he is just in a small minority though.

Ranking up is slow. It wasn’t that fast in EotM either and often in EotM you did stand in 4 hours in own keep because didn’t wanna give annoying enemies cap.

You obviously weren’t following the right Commanders back then. When EoTM was still giving good XP and Rank we actually used to leave the opposing sides Catapults untouched after taking over a structure, since we wanted it flipped back to them as quickly as possible so as to keep the K train going !

You could also buy WvW ranks directly using laurels (mind you can still do this by buying XP laurel boosters).

Ahh this might be just the ticket I am after! I ran out of WvW XP boosters and Experience Boosters some time ago, but couldn’t find another way of getting them either. I’m currently sitting on 1,190 laurels though!

The buying of XP or Rank boosters from Laurel merchants was discontinued after the release of HoT.

Many many Guardians would use a staff just to AA spam in WvW to get as many bags as possible. They would build super tanky, so they can stand in the front line and spam their staff’s AA. ANet seen this and cut the range down. It’s no ones fault except for those who abused this for profit.

Lol this is not why staff is used by frontline guards in wvw.

Bags are a nice reward but not why you use it. A frontline guard jumps in with the commander, uses his GS or hammer with some additional skills to ensure that he survive the worst damage. Then switches to staff to put preassure on the enemy frontline while the backline is doing their job from the sides. Staff 1 Is a great semi-aoe skill that when enough are using it, put quite the preassure on the other frontline.

Yeah that’s all well and good, but what about all those Guards who don’t dive in with the Comm, but just hang back a bit contributing little to the push, other than some stab if they remember to even push that button, and then just spam 1 all day on their stick and never move off that auto attack come hell or high water, well because of them bags yo…

So, from a WvW perspective… was there anything about staff in WvW that actually warranted this change? Because it’s been virtually unseen in PvE or sPvP for a while now. I’d genuinely like to know if there was an actual call that this was OP by anyone, anywhere, that justifies this, or whether it was purely a dartboard nerf.

Because this change has pretty much guaranteed it will never be used in any other mode, and even for WvW, mightstacking can be done by other means.

Now, if the damage had been raised to something like Lightning Whip levels, I could kind of understand it. But at the moment, it feels like ‘demise’ is an appropriate term. They’ve basically boonsmited it, but in all game modes, and as far as I could see, with no indication that it was causing a problem beforehand.

Lets all be honest here (and yes I’m primarily a WvW player), the basis of the complaints about this nerf has everything to do with the fact that pressing “one” no longer will automatically fill your inventory up with loots bags… basically gaining free stuff just by being tanky enough to run through an opposing zerg while tagging downs.

You’re right that no one really “complained” that staff one was over powered before. But it just comes across as hilarious that people on this forum are finding just about every excuse for why this nerf should be reversed while refusing to admit the real reason… that it affects their wealth gain in WvW.

I hate the nerf and have stopped playing guard or using my staff that I paid a lot of money for. I don’t care at all about the loot bags in wvw. Anet could take them away completely and I would still play wvw and still play the same. The loot bag issue is petty. Necros have wells, marks, etc., engis have flame throwers, thief shortbow, etc. and all I ever hear in wvw is bags bags bags. Get rid of bags completely – I couldn’t care less. That’s not why I play guard.

I noticed that when I played the same staff/build in wvw post nerf, the only change I noticed was that I had to play frontline instead of midline, had to move around way more and died more. I noticed no difference in the amount of loot.

And why do you think you noticed no difference in the amount of loot ?

Because as you just ironically mentioned above (and I quote), “I had to play frontline instead of midline, had to move around way more and died more”.

Now you can’t just hang back anymore behind the front line and press 1111 while vacuuming up every bag in sight with zero risk to your life. You’ve actually got to work for your loot this time.

Guess what, now there will be even fewer guards, even less stab and even fewer proper parties for classes that need that stab.

Guards are the lifeblood of WvW, you may hate it and you may enjoy watching them get nerfed, but in the end you will suffer as well. In a sense, proper guards are like bees. You may not notice them much, but without them our ecosystem would be so much poorer.

LOL… talk about being overly melodramatic. Guard players may kitten and moan about losing their precious loot stick. But they’ll soon enough move on to main handing hammer and G.S., like they should have been from the beginning… with staff being switched to for empower and swiftness.

And those ppl who down other ppl use stability, protection, might and sustain provided by guards. Guards are the core and the backbone of any organized medium- to large-scale battle. What world do you live in that you think core players don’t deserve lootbags?

No one was abusing it in PVE.

Apparently they were, in Lake Doric.

If you ever try another class in WvW you will se that tagging is way harder than on guardian.

Necro tags whole blobs like a king and outputs much higher damage.

By your post history, you’re a WvW player and apart from the WvW forum, you appear to be most interested in thief and revenant…

My personal favourite was Perfect World, although technically not a RvR, with it’s up to 3 hour 60v60 battles (and sometimes 3 fights on 3 maps at once!), Territory Wars.

Sweet kitten you just had to go and mention the biggest PAY TO WIN MMO in the history of MMOs. You actually had people there dropping in excess of 10k US dollars to get the best in gear… available only in the cash shop of of course.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF YOU ARE IN COMBAT? Disable in combat gliding. Otherwise it means anyone can run away from a fight by just gliding away and literally makes HoT Pay-to-win. Seriously. It NEEDS to be disabled to deploy gliding while in combat. Seriously. This is why gliding in WvW has always been the stupidest idea.

This is such a silly statement. If your enemies decide to run away by gliding, YOU JUST GLIDE AFTER THEM !

At some point they have to land since it’s not true flight.

hope condi will be nerfed to the ground lamest way to fight huehue i add condi then i run till u bleed out or ill re apply, dont tell me to cleanse cus i made a huehue condi thief just to huehue dodge in my choking gas and i huehue every single person to dead and in blob fights i huehue dodge only cus lotus training alone does enough mean while i added a huehue stamina sigil on my weapon so i can heuhue dodge 24/7 while fighting blobs its huehue easy and yields me more bags then a kitten lootstick guardian.

Have you seen the Condi stats for the new elite specs of some of the classes ???

Any reductions to condi damage from adjustments to foods/utilities will be totally wiped out by the over tuned stats from the new specs.

From all the new elites this seemed to be the least interesting. Conditional range will be nice, but if we have to give up Glint there is much that the new line must offer.

If you’re going to spec condition as this new weapon suggests, then corruption and herald will still be the automatic go to traits. It’s either retribution or invocation (depending on what you’re using) that everyone will drop for the new spec.

You can’t slot two elite specs at once. With Renegade you won’t be able to use Herald.

ill go vanilla 1 shot thief build, no problem for me.

Haha with the amount of passive defense/invulnerability/blocks in this game (and apparently more to come), that vanilla build has been long extinct.

Im playing Guild wars since vanilla and let me tell you WvW has never been in a more unbalanced state as it is now , talking about small fights and 1v1 ofc.

It’s a nightmare you only run into one trick pony’s every way you turn , broken REVs , Burn Guardians , s/d thieves who just don’t die no matter how much you chase, don’t even let me start about the condi builds.

Back in the day it was a real joy going to WvW to have duel competitions and just all around 1v2 FUN that’s a thing of the past and im pretty sure the balance is going to be even worse with more added classes to the game with the next expansion.

I read what you’re telling, and that reminds me of a very fun fight I once had. It was during HoT beta : that weekend when Druid was released. At this time, I didn’t even have a ranger and I gave it a try, so I ran a druid, and I stumbled upon a druid that probably was in the same situation.
So we were mostly doing… anything, spamming skills without being sure what the outcome would be, on toons we didn’t know, running suboptimal builds. I don’t even remember who won, but I do remember we had fun !

If you think about it, the previous traits system was trickier to use than this one, and in the beginning of GW2, I think there were less min/maxing, mostly because classes and builds were not known as good.

My impression on that is lots of players in the roaming scene run top notch min/maxed builds with perfect rotation execution, to finish fights as quick as possible. It gets obvious when you see the very same player 1 – Nuke you out of the blue when you cross him 2 – Is heavily nuked when you catch him after a fight, even a camp one, and the rotation can’t be done because of CD.

I think it’s sad, because it gives the impression that most players don’t want to bother doing a fight, and it also removes a lot of spontaneity.

^ Exactly this I mean what is the point of joining a WvW/PvP enviroment if you don’t want to actual counter-play and engage your opponents and run 2 shot builds that require literally not more then one hand on the keyboard , forget about having a mouse!

Everyone is min-maxing nowdays and every top roamer seems to be decked in full Ascended / legendaries to simply put it it’s a turn off and no wonder only the zergs/blobs still play WvW.

Thank god for the edge of the mists , the only balance left is there.

I would have thought it obvious by now why most roamers run nuke builds. It’s to down you as quickly as possible before 4 or 5 of your buddies arrive to “save the day”. In the old days one could afford to run dueling builds because chances are you could have fairly lengthy uninterrupted fights. That’s obviously no longer the case and hasn’t been for a while.

here is my official Brave new world suggestion. Put on your pants this ones got some sauce baby.

1. Blackgate is destroyed.
2. All players from BG are randomly distributed evenly between remaining servers. That’s what you get for bandwagon-ing, noone cares about your guilds and friendships. (I’m serious on this one, you’re all basic and I hate you).
3. Server transfers cost $5000 per Account.
4. All proceeds go towards one of two things. A children’s hospital, or a dedicated PvP balance team.
5. I collect any and all tears and provide drinking water to 3rd world countries.
6. Statues are erected of John Cena in every single WvW keep, tower, camp, and he also rides the dolyaks while trumpets play.

Absolutely everyone is happy under my 6 step guide. If you say different, you’re from blackgate and noone cares.

LOL I take it there are still people out there who haven’t forgiven BG for not taking a turn at the “server implosion wheel” a la JQ, TC, MAG, etc. Well boo kitten hoo. Not our fault your server never took the time to create a “winning !” environment. :-)
