yeah, i mean 1 guy soloed a raid boss with condi thief.
Ironically that particular Condi thief build (so called “trapper thief”) was being abused for AGES in WvW using the same exploit that killed the raid boss, i.e… trap damage didn’t knock the thief out of stealth. Thus with certain rotations the thief could stay invisible permanently while still doing damage.
But of course ANET only saw the exploit as problem AFTER it was used to solo a Raid boss, and then nerfed it to kitten.. Just goes to show where the priorities are in this game…

On that note, my guild is down to running WvW once a week or even less because of the lack of your team caring about how the players want to play the game. Every higher skilled GVG guild has quit the game because of it and almost all that is left is what you wanted there to be, just pug zergs. But by all means, it’s your game, keep on displeasing your players and driving them away since you clearly know what the players want more than they do.

Current entire? Nope probably not. But the players who have left the game? They left for the same reasons. Stability changes, CC changes, and the fact that anet thinks they know the game better than the players. The same players who paid for the game, expansion and gems in the game, some or which did this with multiple accounts like myself.
You may like zerging around, but that isn’t for everyone. Many people still enjoy smaller group play and playing with just their guilds against the enemies. After all, this is “Guild Wars 2”, not “Pug Zerg wars” right? There is nothing in this game that pits guilds against other guilds, so where does guild wars come from? Lol. At least GW1 had GvG.

Because that’s what this thread is about. Not stability changes, CC changes, condi meta or whatever. If guilds actually cared this much about the tag I’m amazed they even lasted a week, considering we ran without squads and only had a single kittenty tag with no functions in the glory days of GW2 GvGs.
Exactly my thoughts. A few people (after 5 years) are still mad that ANET ignores their requests for invisible tags, and then come here and try to distill all the problems that are causing people to leave the game down to this one issue… lack of official support for private GvG fights.
If you had to rank all the unresolved problems that cause people to quit WvW (empty servers, condi meta, stab changes, stale game mode, HOT, etc…), would lack of invisible tags even make the top 10 ?

I haven’t seen anyone mention this yet, so I will. You only need 1k ranks to max out every WvW trait line. Expecting requirements to be over rank 500 is probably unrealistic. You only need rank 50 to unlock the first backpiece, “very high” could be rank 300-400 for Anet. We just don’t know and PvE’rs are already complaining…
WvW ranks currently go from zero to “over 9000 !” . So if by “very high” Anet really means only 300-400 rank, that would be a terrible misuse of the English language in my opinion.

Oh but trust me, SOMEBODY is going to attempt to bring this topic up again, if only because they believe the “Guild” in GW2 means that WvW should really be a GvG only arena.
I was hoping to see this, but I am not sure that we will. I’d really like the option to have a “closed squad” where your commander tag is only displayed to those in your squad. Many guilds want to run with JUST their guild (like myself) to test their own skill out in the world. There are plenty of commanders that want everyone to join them, but that isn’t everyone.
I think this would help to discourage the blob mentality also, which is a much needed thing in WvW right now. Blobs all over the place are why many guilds have quit the game and why my guild runs maybe once a week in WvW now.

It is pretty much about raid, the food has been there for years and only now they start to nerf it.
Yep. That “wiggle” technique was used while standing in front of bosses so you could dps them without actually having to run around to keep the buff going. Like we all know by now, everything is balanced around raids, full stop.
It’s more or less a for fun build. You can’t do anything useful with it (except not die).
Reminds me of a certain ghost thief build.
The Ghost Thief (RIP) was a much better troll and it actually killed people.
If they ever allowed the Lynx rune into WvW, you couldn’t give Travelers away.
rifle thief will get just one dodge instead the 3 from DD. Probably most skills will have a long casting.
That spec it is meant to static long range massive damage type they say. Which i think is fine as long as they are not like rifle warrior: 3k damage every second + bursts + insane immunities and regen.Every class has access to TWO dodges why do you say non daredevil thief will have only ONE?
Even if they do only get 1 dodge, it won’t matter. Everyone will run full zerk/scholar runes with w/e else, cast shadow refuge and roflburst kids 100-0. If that doesn’t work it’s just shortbow 5 spam and a shadow step to safety or try number 2.
Thief is in a spot that if the spec isn’t that strong it’ll never see the light of day unless it brings some serious toe-to-toe brawler ability, which wouldn’t make much sense.
That’s true. Anet painted themselves into a corner with the Dare Devil line.
Just to remind everyone the three dodges is part of the daredevil line, they can regen a lot of endurance with acro but they don’t get the special dodges or extra one and cannot use daredevil with the new line.
I would think the new style will enhance a more ranged style of combat maybe enhancing a one shot or set up for a kill style. This could benefit a number of weapon sets where you take advantage of situations and set ups.
Who cares about kitten dodges. Rifle (assuming it’s not the Engie version) will likely make Thief a sniper. Like others have said, throw in stealth and watch Trolls have a kitten good time !

I think that the real problem here is that the devs don’t understand WvW players. They thought they did, and when they tried to give them what they believed they wanted, it went sour very quickly.
This is akin to petting a cat, and getting your hand burned. It’s painful, and more than a little confusing. It makes you reluctant to try it again, because you’re not sure just how it went so oddly wrong, so you don’t know how to avoid it happening again.
I think this guy really gets it (a pve’r of all people lol).

Alright, so, and this is just me and my thoughts, WvW is about PvP on a larger scale, capturing objectives, defending your lands and its structures from invaders, and ensuring this by eliminating any threats along the way, such as enemy players. Does WvW need a source to get Legendary Armor to do these things? I wouldn’t say so, being able to swap stats, is what attracts most to getting it, but beyond added pretty pixels, LArmor, is not required to do this. Just like Ascended armor is not required outside of high-tier fractals.
What it boils down to is flexibility, both sides WvW/PvE are deserving of this, and LArmor provides just that, do I feel LArmor being tied to only PvE content(Raids) as fair? No, but it doesn’t make it impossible for people who aren’t used to the content or abhor it like the plague.
If you want it, you will work for it, whatever it takes, getting out of ones comfort zone is the hard part of this, and tying it to one source doesn’t automatically say, “Anet is ignoring us, PANIC!!!”

Seems like an horrible idea. Whoevers left in the game, plays it because they like current class options. Making it completely different snowballmayhem would kinda ruin it which is not good…
This is why we can’t have nice things. Yes, it’s likely that those left playing the game mode are indeed some what comfortable with the way things are right now. So your solution then is to make as little changes as possible so as to not risk upsetting this group… all the while ignoring the fact that even these die hards will eventually grow bored with the stagnation in WvW and eventually move on, thus ensuring the game dies a slow death ?
Or maybe we could drastically shake/overhaul things up to see if we could bring new blood into the game instead ?

Pssh… so what. I’ve been playing since launch too and even I can see how hilariously DUMB it is when trying to make a point to the Devs to call other players who don’t follow your play style, “weak minded”.
There’s room for something of this nature, but I don’t think this particular idea works. Making certain things stronger would easily break the game without adding any more gameplay—you’d just have an expanded meta with everyone doing the thing they did before better. As a result, you’d have less variance in acceptable approaches because one role would do it so much better than anything else. Any implementation would also have to take into account that some roles will be more desireable than others.
That said, allow me to try to contribute something constructive too.
Rather than new skills and buffs to class mechanics, this system should focus on WvW specific things. Players should be able to choose a focus for each character and be able to reset it by paying a certain amount of some WvW resource (perhaps excess wexp points?). There should also be a cooldown between switching. The focus should not affect combat abilities as there’s no way to do this without being dragged into a whole new can of worms. Finally, there should be multiple viable options for each player.
I’ll try to create some examples, but it would be helpful if people could point out what sort of things could be affected. I’m sure I don’t know them all.

+1% repair efficiency per 10 WvW ranks.
+1% starting build % on siege per 10 WvW ranks. Capped at 50%.
+1 supply per 100 WvW ranks delivered by Yaks you escort for at least 30s. Does not stack—uses highest bonus from all escorts.Scout
+1% movement speed per 30 WvW ranks while in aura range of an allied structure. Stacks additively with haste and shrine buffs.
+1% capture rate for camps, shrines, ruins and outposts per 30 WvW ranks.
+1% siege damage versus structures on your BL or in your corner of EB per 30 WvW ranks.Assassin
+1% movement speed per 30 WvW ranks while in aura range of an enemy holding. Stacks additively with haste and shrine buffs.
+1 point per enemy player or Yak killed per 300 WvW ranks.
+1% damage to enemy NPCs per 30 WvW ranks.Marauder
+1 supply capacity per 10 people in your squad. Caps at 5, effectively.
+1% damage reduction from enemy siege per 50 WvW ranks. Caps at 70%. Stacks additively.

Like others have mentioned in this thread, we don’t think this would be a healthy feature for WvW. Many players will not participate in WvW if they don’t see a commander tag, and we try to avoid adding features that can be used to exclude players.
Bogus reasoning. It’s already easy to exclude players from a squad by kicking them.
Also quite frankly I don’t like the idea of anet catering to the lowest common denominator of player who won’t participate in the game mode unless they see a commander tag on the map. You’re enabling weak minded players.

I liked the combat in BDO. If it wasn’t such an endless gear-grind, I’d probably be playing that. Although, I heard it has its own balance issues in WvW-style gameplay.

There is a huge discrepancy in coverage right now (whether that be due to servers intentionally tanking or guilds leaving, I don’t know). Not sure how ANET is going to solve that. Was on last night at the height of NA prime time and the fights were fairly even throughout with all 3 servers fielding large groups (on EBG anyway).
It’s just that when everyone else goes to sleep, BG is still partying on. :-)
spvp is much more tactic aware than wvw. In spvp there are 3 big components : player mechanic, player rotation on the map and team coordinations . In wvw, if you roam you have only player mechanic : i win if i am better of my opponent or if i am a counter ( in rare cases when fights are balanced in number ) , if you go behind a zerg … the only thing that makes the difference is numbers …. the biggest one usually wins …
This isn’t true and hasn’t been true in a long time. Zergs where the majority are in team speak and co-coordinating pushes, heals, condi bombs, resistance & stability buffs, boon corrupts, etc… will virtually always win against even much larger but more disorganized groups (aka giant blob following a pug commander).

That aught to do it. Oh and all those damage modifiers are additive by the way.
Yeah I suppose you could build a thief for that one skill alone, scholar runes, those sigils that you mentioned, food etc. etc. But you could build any class to be a one trick pony for that matter. Like that ranger that someone mentioned in another thread mauling people for 24k from stealth and running away when he missed because he can’t do anything else.

This thread is why guilds have asked for private guild tags that only guild members can see on the map for a very long time.
Bull kitten. Those guilds wanted private tags so they could turn the borderlands into their very own private Guild vs Guild arenas. Thank god ANet had enough sense not to abide you guys. And anyway GvG is done, dead & buried and eulogy forgotten.

After the over the top buffs to power Necro, I tried running it in a zerg last night after a long hiatus. The thing hit like a truck no doubt but the same old problems remain. Namely getting focused by everyone and their dog with little or no means of avoiding damage (or even escaping) other than to hope my life force can sponge it all.
Yeah, I know I’m rusty playing the class, but I guess I’ve just gotten accustomed to all the survival perks you get playing other classes, so go figure…

Natural Harmony will be nerfed. PvP bunker is also a problem with this as is. Enjoy it while it lasts.

OK… a guy over on the WvW forum was able to confirm that the AO nerf indeed only affects PVE and not WvW. He posted scans of the tool tip damage for AO in both the WvW borderlands and a PVE map. The stated skill damage when highlighted showed a clear 7% increase when his toon was in WvW compared to when he was in PVE.

All changes not listed as “PvP Only” are currently affecting WvW. If it’s intended or not, it’s up Arena Net to say.
