It still is. A well played Rev is actually a handful even for two decent thieves. Revs on top of each other start getting very difficult to manage.
Um no. There is no class out there that is going to even remotely threaten two competent Thieves who are working together. We are talking endless blinds and interrupts here.
I am thinking about either building a Warrior Beserker who from what I understand has good mobility, good survivability and can do decent burst or a Revenant.
Go Warrior because the WvW raid meta is really close to what you can run for roaming (in both gear, traits and even weapons), is very easy to play and can handle himself ganking attempts. The sustain is, also, godlike.
Revenant, instead, uses a WvW raid build that is utterly useless againts ganking attacks and needs deep changes if you want to roam or duelling; is weak vs cc, conditions and any class which can kite at range and use stealth or mobility to disengage, and even if your regear and retrait for roaming/duelling is a VERY hard class to play.
Have to agree here. Any Rev built for Zerging/Havok/Raid/Whatever is basically Thief or Condi bait if caught in the borderlands alone. Berserker Warrior on the other hand is very proficient in either zerging or roaming without having to switch builds plus has excellent mobility to boot.
The thread is a little off, boonshare mesmer is one of the strongest zerg classes….. and warrior sucks for zerging because it’s complete epidemic bait and outclassed by something like a mallyx jalis rev that can frontline while spamming resistance and damage reduction….. Anyway you can’t blame a commander especially if hes commanding pugs to want to have meta classes and builds, which means Guardian/Ele/Revenant/ Mesmer.
I believe that there are specific uses for Engi/Druid ( stealth to break targeting on a focused target in gvgs), but its too specific of a niche to be needed.
Psssh… thank God as a Warrior I bring my own stab for days, and with nearly 1k healing per sec plus invuls/blocks & resistance out the wazoo, I don’t tend to give a kitten what party the commander puts me in. :-)

Psssh… if you guys are farming each other for ascended mats, you’re doing it wrong. I’ve already gotten 3 pieces of ascended armor from just an afternoon of playing ranked PVP. I’ve also noticed lots of familiar BG names in the lobby there too. Must be why so few are on the borderlands right now. ;-)

Yes population is down everywhere, but you could at least acknowledge in your rant that this is extremely normal this time of year with the Christmas season and all that.
It was Christmas season 2 years ago, and WvW was way, way more active, you are making excuses, just like those that made them in the summer that people were going out enjoying the weather and would be back when the weather gets colder in autumn/winter, it didn’t happen, the game mode is moribund.
Yeah because it was two freaking years ago. In the current generation MMOs thats basicly cash grabs which survive 3 months before loosing 80% of player, GW2 still stands out as a healthy populated game. But it doesnt change the fact it get older by the day and thus people quit naturally.

You missed the point, I compared to two years ago, because WvW was active year round, people going on about the season are spouting as much BS as those made the same excuse in summer, WvW has reached the state it has because there are so few playing it, simple as that, the season has nothing to do with it.
And yes it is Christmas eve, but it should be obvious people are talking about more than just today.
More kitten nonsense. This game has always experienced population drops leading up to, and during festive seasons. This has been happening since year one. And of course overall player participation has dropped since 2014. That’s the natural progression for most MMOs.

No, it really wont. This has been the argument for every subscription game since WoW. CU with subscriptions is dead on arrival. I expect it to last maybe 6 months before imploding due to low population. I just looked up gameplay footage on youtube, yep, still nothing substantial (also, still womit inducing animations).
WoW still has a subscription model and makes tons of money with kitten from their store. So, CU will be able to force a subscription on players when the game is worth playing.
If you can’t afford 12,99 per month for a subscription, you shouldn’t play.
I can afford that amount per month easily. But I still won’t pony up any amount for the “privilege” of playing a Subscription game.
It’s also too fast to be dodged without luck or telepathy. Unless you’re at max range, it’s probably going to hit you before your dodge evade takes effect.
I’ve reviewed video of it hitting me at medium distance (~700-900 units). I dodge almost immediately after the hook projectile is launched and it hits my character mid-dodge, but still hooks. Maybe that’s lag, but I have decent ping. If anyone is interested, I could post the slowed down clip.
It is an extremely fast projectile, yes. Reducing it’s velocity would be enough to balance it out, imho. It is currently the strongest pull in the game and one of only two that’s unblockable. If anyone needs an unblockable pull, it’s Necromancer. I would still love to see Spectral Grasp either become a non-projectile (like Magnet) or become unblockable.
No need to adjust speed/make it blockable or anything like that. Simply reducing it’s range to 900 would solve 99% of the problems with this pull.

JQ isn’t facing Fort Aspenwood and Maguuma which are both essentially T2 servers at this point.
No, it’s facing a T3 server (SBI) and the less populated of the T1 servers (TC) and still not winning by a landslide as it should since “it’s more populated than BG”.
Well it’s (apparently) still open. So plenty of time for bandwagoning guilds/individuals to hop on there. And if those same bandwagoning guilds/individuals simply don’t want to go there, then JQ has some serious soul searching to do on why it’s not an attractive enough server for people to want to join…
I love this. They have less population than a T4 server link, yet still number 1 by a long shot and absolutely destroys their competition. It goes to show that they’re the server that has WvW figured out.
Not exactly rocket science… coverage. It was figured out in beta.
Yet in the 4+ years we’ve been in tier 1, we’ve fought against servers that have had superior coverage to us in every respect. Yet we’re still here. JQ at one point was the number one server in T1 for well over a year straight. You don’t have to like us but you can’t deny the resilience of BG over all those years.

Put aside BG for a sec, what if its your server, would you think its fair? Maybe if some people would for once think objectively rather then instantly getting enraged because its about one particular server and automatically needing to spew their bias on here.
Always pulling the “What if it was your server?” card… Well, I cannot answer that question because I always played in the lower tiers (the ones you buy guilds from) and not with the stacked blob servers. I can’t simply know how I would feel if it was my server because it never been my server. But I problably would not come here crying that my server need more people if we were still holding our position in tier 1 since February 2013 (last time BG was ever ranked 4 or lower).

All this tells me is that BG has enough gold stocked up and prepared to pay people 3600 gems worth of gold to transfer, probably multiple guilds worth of people. This is why you get to stay locked.

for someone who roam all over the place and duel in WvW i can say after testing condi and power necro with multiple build you will loose 1v1 against good war, revenant, thief, guard. then in a group fight, unless you have an elem with you, you will be focused first and immobilized, then killed, because you have only your life bar to protect you. you are slow, very little stab for a class that survive being a punching bag, and a long cast time on nearly all skills. while every other class have something to tempo, necro has not. unless under heavy healing if a necro is focused in a group fight he will fall.
You know, the part about “very little stab” still upsets me some what. Remember when the elite skills were first being advertised and Reaper was first touted as being this slow but “unstoppable” monster akin to one out of a horror movie ?
Well a large part of that “unstoppability” was the introduction of stability in the reaper skills. But it was countered by the fact we could still be kited all day so balance was achieved. But then some Dev decided that things were too good in Necro world and so stab was halved with no substantial change to cool down, and that was that. We were still slow (and easily kitable) but now our “unstoppability” is likely a running gag in the Dev’s offices.

I run both Rev and Warr… pure glass for each. I’ve never managed to get my arc dividers to crit anywhere near what my Rev’s CoR can do… and that doesn’t even factor in the Rev’s bonus 50% damage increase trait on block. SO yeah… I think you’re exaggerating like no tomorrow.

Yes a players has triple or whatever health. But they also have zero defenses. And if you have stab and/or can blind them, a stomp only takes a few seconds…
Honestly, I don’t know why everyone thinks Necro is a free kill, or even weak. I like to roam/havoc with mine when I’m not on my mesmer, and I do very well. Most of the encounters I have I win, unless I get outnumbered or ambushed while taking a camp. When I get those encounters where I can’t -win-, I either stall the enemies for a very long time, or just slowly but surely get away.
I can understand the stalling part somewhat as they can be very good meat shields. But “slowly but surely get away” ???
You must have other Necros chasing you.
Anet can easily address this by removing your death/reaper shroud, if thats what you want. Also remove the staff for good measure.
The reason necros are being focused have nothing to do with with balance against other classes. Its because you got so much AoE, boon removal and condi transfers you become an enemy liability. You cant stomp people with a necro around. You cant cleave a ressing necro as they will just sit safe in shroud. Necros will make you loose. Ergo, kill the necro.
HAHA I LOL’d at this post and then LOL’d some more. No one who focus fires a Necro is even remotely thinking of the stuff you just wrote. They focus fire a Necro because its a free bag that can’t run away.

DB for a while now were a consistent first or second place for most of their time in t1. Now there are almost 30k pts behind the second place server TC and headed in the wrong direction (or right one, depending on who there wants to go back to t2).

That was because DK stopped playing the game, and he’s apparently THE commander that motivates YB. He’s back now, and thus they’re back in business.
So basically you’re saying that YB is a one man show. DK plays, they do well. He quits, they implode. Doesn’t say much about the quality and stability of the server then.
Honestly I’ll never play a paid subscription type of game, it just makes the game feel like work to me.
Thats pretty funny given f2p games are the most grindy games cause they have to be to get you to buy stuff from them and are therefore the games most like ‘work’.
I think he means (though I could be wrong) that sub games feel like work because you feel obligated to play constantly, even if you don’t want to, because you’re sinking actual cash into the game every month. It’s basically a feeling that you have to get your money’s worth in play time.

Um… no they aren’t. Crowd funded projects tend to never ever be “very close”. Every step of the way during development is too dependent on “donations” so to speak.
Just chill for the week and run up the ppt score like BG did when they too got dropped a few weeks back. TC is almost guaranteed to finally get the boot from T1 next week (I’m kind of shocked they’re still there).

Poor warrs. I miss how much fun warrs were before the stab nerf. As much as I loved playing my warr, I must admit that the support capabilities of rev make them superior frontliners.
Now you pretty much only want one warr to banner the driver. Any more are a waste.
This makes no sense. With the nerf to rallying in WvW, having multiple Warriors running banners is a huge advantage for the zerg running them compared to an opposing zerg without them. Nothing turns the tide quicker than seeing all those downs you worked so hard for getting rallied en mass due to the other zerg’s Wars coordinating their banners.
I don’t deny that Revs have pretty much made Warriors obsolete when it comes to boon sharing. But to say that any more than one Warrior is a “waste” is down right silly. In addition to banners, they also still bring far more damage to the melee train than all those loot stick wielding Guards out there.

Every class is sometimes unwanted in WvW. This is highly dependend on the cmd. Cmds are, in rare cases, asking for a specific class. For example you got a 50man squad and 2 guards. If you get kicked out of the squad several times, attend to your servermeeting and let them know. If this is bring ignored just change to another Server then.
I have never EVER heard a zerg commander say there are too many Guards, one of them pls switch to something else.

Sort of feel your pain. I’ve been running Berserker Warrior for a while now in zergs (was getting bored out of my skull on Rev). And while I don’t actually get kicked out of squads, I still have to put up with snide remarks such as, “I hope all you Warriors are running banners. You’ll need it to rez each other !”

Its just the nature of the beast that is WvW that some classes (mainly those with little support utility or aoe damage) are simply unwanted. And unfortunately Rangers are right at the bottom with thieves and Engineers, with Warriors (front line) being merely “tolerated” at best.
Any word on if Dragunknight is ever going to return? It’s always sad to watch a community fall apart because of the loss of a single commander.

I know the guy is hated by a lot in game mainly because of his ability to ppt like a machine, but we need more players like that guy. Not on the level of hours but just dedication and pulling those pugs together and STAYING with his server.
He had been having internet issues for almost 2.5 months now and was online for a very brief amount of time ~10 hours back. Besides PPT’ing and defense, its his ability to Back Cap that is sorely missed but the positive side is that he’ll be fresh after not having played for so long.

Your calculation for damage reduction is false, just saying. Damage reduction is not additive, but compounded. I.e… 33% protection plus 10% damage reduction from rune does not equal 43% overall damage reduction. I think it comes to something like 35% or something like that.
Protection given by tempest is 40% not 33%. That’s why it’s 43 and not 35.
I was replying to the OP where I’m fairly certain he wasn’t talking about tempest protection.
There is no such thing as backline any more because of the two things listed in the title. As much as I wasn’t a fan of the pirate ship meta Pre-Hot, its gone too far the other way. Front-lines have become completely unkillable unless everyone in the zerg single targets a single individual which means that 30v30 fights (organized guild groups) can legit last 20+ minutes and if you are close to a spawn with people running back, it WONT end.
Right now front-lines are sitting at permanent 43% damage reduction (permanent protection cuz durability plus 10% damage reduction food) with about 50% uptime on 60% damage reduction (Great Dwarf plus 10% damage reduction food). And on top of this they have permanent resistance between durability runes and Pain Absorption with facet of nature popped (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Pain_Absorption).
SO to sum it up, 60% damage reduction, permanent resistance and protection, plus heals coming from guardians, druids, and tempests. Its just too much. You guys nerfed pack runes yet leave durability completely untouched.

Agree with you bud! Love my DH and he looks way awesome. but like you said very slow movement speed. Best nights for me is when my buddy plays on his rev and boons me!
That being said I always said to myself if only they added this and added this and so forth. But someone said something in another post today you cant be a tank, have speed and have all the damage in the world. So I guess the compromise is speed for the DH.

I’ve been trying a physical warrior again, since the patch has buffed them. I’m having a lot of fun, plenty of CC, tremendous mobility, very good damage… What’s your opinion on the buffs of the physical skills?
A tiny disappointment in the damage reduction of the Hydromancy sigil, which was not negligible in the overall damage output.
Hydromancy sigil was OP compared to fire and air sigils because unlike them, it could crit.

I actually was of the opinion that if it was gonna get nerfed, PVP was the prime target since most of the complaints seem to come from that game mode. If you get focused (typically WvW scenario), Adrenal Health isn’t going to be what keeps you alive.
In conjuntion with Arc Divider and 3 semi-invulns, Adrenal health made 2v1ing a competent berserker in Marauder gear incredibly difficult. It needed to be toned down.
But WvW isn’t balanced around 1 vs 1 or even 2 vs 1 fights … and that’s something we’ve all known since beta. AH is only insanely OP in small scale fights, which is right up PVP’s alley.
