the CD reductions are not addressing the main weaknesses of the shield, which are: the skills are crap.

shield 4 is clunky, very bad targeting angle, have not decided if it is defensive or offensive skill. low damage and low protection duration.

shield 5 is rooting, and provide only projectile absorption on a still very long CD.

shield 4 must either:
be AOE and not cone, or stay cone but increase the damage by at least 50%, or stay cone but increase the protection duration by 50%.

shield 5 must either:
remove the root, make the dome follow around you.
or keep the root, but make the dome projectile reflection.
or keep the root and make the dome total invulnerability area (enemies cant enter.)

everything about the shield have been discussed in the first year of the game, back in 2012 but Anet chose not to listen and do nothing.

Not all of us want to play a platform jumping game. As I’m a little older than average, perhaps this sort of leaping about (the sort a 6 year old might enjoy endlessly) gets tiresome really fast.

And once again the mobs, etc drop nothing, all rewards are tied to event completion, which I consider a step backwards.

The entrance quest seems designed for zerk warriors/guards, and the tedious mumblings of the NPCs add nothing, especially as you can’t skip through them to some action. Again, nothing drops from the mobs, and the boss mob spawns lots of little adds that are very easy for a zerk warrior to use stability and wipe them but not so much fun on more balanced builds.

Hopefully LS2 will progress past Jump Puzzle 2 and contain some actual content that doesn’t involve using crystals to jump about and mobs that drop nothing.

Guess the feedback from the completely dead Pavilion didn’t reach them in time…

lots of good guilds left the server and Piken went from 4th place last year to 14th this year…

the main mindset of many WWW guilds is GVG only, they run around the map doing nothing, except boasting in map chat, passing keeps and towers for chasing enemy zerg and then crash on it, regroup after wipe and then talk about it in the teamspeak for 30 minutes standing in the fort, blaming “rallybots” on their failure… while the enemy take bay and garrison.

because buying stuff for gems doesn’t require a role. you can buy gems as a bunker, you can buy gems as a condi, you can buy gems as a controller , you can also buy gems as a support.

no need to have a party, no need to do dungeons, no need to have any kind of team- work, strategy, planning, just press “O” and buy gems.

it can work in WWW, because healing helps, and you can tag fast enough with staff and symbol.

but unfortunately it will not work in dungeons,
either you will be carried, or the group will fail because you cant kill the mobs fast enough. your damage is ~1/10 of an offensive geared guardian, while your healing is only *2 or *3 of an offensive geared guardian (just remove all your armor and see that your heals dropped on average by 50%, then put full zerker armor in the builder and calculate you damage with crit modifiers).

not sure this is a good ratio.

you need a specific recipe for each item, you cant use them by “discovery”

you probably got leatherworker recipes back in the marionette living story and no armorsmith ones.

you can buy the armor pieces recipes from AH, but they are very expensive.

unless you are running with Ele or engy, you will not get enough burns.

the 1 sec of burn on each fifth strike not enough to have a constant 7% damage increase. the burning applied on hit, and removed before the hit animation is finished.
even if you use purging flames, it is not enough.
only if you can double your burn duration (close to 100%) and use torch and purging flames on cooldown, you will see constant difference (+17% damage from runes and trait)

thats why pack > flame legion.

take a look at hammer build in obals sticky link.
then replace some gear pieces for soldiers if you don’t feel comfortable with 10K HP.
i like to have 15K+ hp so i wear some soldier trinkets.
scepter+focus is when you need range or extra shield, but your main is the hammer.
in PVE ; never use staff, the empower just not worth it, as it has NO real support. staff is a WWW weapon.

support=hammer with persistence trait.

but only because i like the shouts with pure of voice, in content that i need wall of reflection, i swap one shout for it and replace unscratched contender for shorter consecrations CD.

when i tried to play the exact obals build;
3/5/0/4/2 the DPS was better, but i felt i don’t have enough condition removal, one purging flames was not enough for me. and sigils of purity are meh due to long internal CD, they are noticeable only if you have signet of resolve and purity together (which is not even in the build) for a decent 3 conditions per 10 seconds cleanse.

now the mace question,
mace shine only with healing power AND power together, i believe that full zealots build can utilize PVE mace build to the full, but i don’t have enough money to try it.

run some WWW for badges enough to buy just weapons.

get berserker weapons instead of clerics for badges,
try to get set of runes of the pack, they are relatively chap and grant lots of precision.
get one of the offensive builds in obals guide.
use food consumables that convert toughness/vitality to precision.

do dungeons, and nobody will notice that you are not a berserker.

a stacking debuff that reducing 5% of your abilities each 10 seconds up to 50% reduction, if you have more than five people in 600 radius or more than 3 people in 300 radius.

this is the only thing that will “solve” stacking and zerging, but it will destroy the game….

I heard a rumors that the enemy AI in beta was actually adequate,
but they removed it for some obscure reason, probably not to drive out the noobs.

there is a very simple solution.

leave dumb AI on maps level 1-15 and 15-25, and increase the AI smartness on higher maps.

or: keep the regular mobs dumb, but give veterans good AI.

I made 0/2/0/6/6 build for WWW, with monk runes but life sigil…
in WWW it is quite good support, i don’t do high damage, but my auto attack heals ~1200 in radius.
soothing mist heal 200 per second.
geyzer heal 5K in 2 seconds ( if stand inside area).

but in dungeons, i am not convinced yet,
decent party, can gain more from such build, they can slack more. but they don’t really need me.
i could heal up cohler damage completely in seconds.
but if the party is bad /low level, then the heals wont help.
I got stuck in AC1 on the burrows with a low level party, and couldn’t heal nobody, for several wipes, then i retraited back to damage spec and gear, and finished the burrows.

for PVE,
if you don’t care about the meta or you dont want to spend 100g on runes,
then runes of the pack are cheap and efficient,
you get 175 power, 125 precision ( 6% crit! ) and 50% fury up-time. (so +16% crit on average combat)

regarding exuberance runes, even if you wear full soldiers (armor and accessories),
you get around ~118 power and 4% crit only.
every piece of knight/berserker reduce the amount of stat that you get.

the basic healing skills are strong for no investment, but investing in healing power brings you no where,

and to people who post links of static parties finishing a dungeon with cleric gear, this is a joke as the same party will finish this dungeon naked.

just like obal and his party killed Lupi very fast while everyone in healing gear, but their damage is higher than the average “zerker” pug. it is not because “cleric” gear is OP, it because the group is very good.

basic healing (with zero healing power) should be much much lower, and scaling with healing power should be better.
this will not break PVP, but make PVE better.

the main mistake in design, that they split healing power and boon duration to two separate lines.

healing power give you too little and take so much from you…

if boon duration was tied to healing power (like ferocity to crit damage) ,
and there was not a specific line that gave you 30% boon duration, the game would have been different in its meta. healing power builds would have been used all the time, for support.

elementalist is the most squishy class to level, you need lots of patience,
you will die a lot in personal story sequences and skill points.
for skill points use the megaserver chat for help…
for living story, just abuse respawn.
ele and thief were the two classes i struggled the most ( war/guard the least) of all classes.

try to get the best gear you can, and use condi, they are quite powerful while leveling.

Zerker will remain on top not because it’s just too powerful, but because the others are pretty redundant.

even condition DPS in PVE was not designed properly…
power eles and guardians occupy the burning slot 50% of the time,
condi ranger or engy drop their DPS by 50%.
same with poison.

bleeds?
power warrior and power rangers stack bleeds on crits, taking bleed slots from condition specced classes…

and the cap? two condition users in the same group are redundant.
only one condition user allowed and only if he use bleeds or confusion, as other conditions ( burn and poison) will not work for 50% of the time.

have you tried destroying burrows with condition spec?

going to the dungeon at its level is hard mode,
ever tried to run AC1 on level 35?
ever tried to run SE on levl 65?
caucedus manor on level 45?

the dungeon design in the game is severely lacking.
it is hard to impossible to do on its designed level,
and ridiculously easy to run as a exotic geared 80 level group.

get exotics as quickly as you can.
the change is huge.

you can easily farm 2 cof and 2 AC aday, and get dungeon gear.
if you play WWW, buying exotics with badges is even cheaper.
you can do both.
i don’t know how much karma you have, you can buy magi/rabid/soldiers pieces for 40K karma.

i use 6/2/0/4/2 and wear some soldier pieces for extra survivability, this is not meta build, but the DPS is more than acceptable in pugs. (water line is vital striking and cleansing wave)

after that, dying in dungeons is knowing the encounter.

focus is superior to shield in any way except throwing noobs from bridges in EOTM.
shields must get a tweak to be useful and not a niche gimmick,
warriors have the same issue with shield, to a point when warriors use offhand sword for block because the overall block uptime from sword is higher than from shield.

edit:
torch is offensive weapon that can trigger lots of on crit effects on torch 5
and torch 4 used for damage multiplier in some builds for extra 27% damage on sword or scepter.( 10% burn from trait, 10% condition from trait, 7% burn from set of runes)

you can obtain a small amount of dragonite every 15 minutes all day long from world bosses.
except maybe tequatl or wurm timers.
it is the time to jump into EOTM map for some tower farming, then return to PVE world bosses

5% stat increase for power gives you 5% more damage. It’s a LINEAR damage increase. Numerically, a base 916 power stat would deal double damage if the stat was raised to 1832( an additional 916). . Now that I have proven you wrong, can you please tell me how you thought that you were correct?

well, i looked again at the formula, and you are correct.
increase of 5% in weapon damage stat will increase the damage of the same skill on the same target by 5%.

it just when i looked at all the posts that calculated ascended gear damage increase, the damage increase was mainly because of inflated critical damage stat on some pieces which was balanced with ferocity.

edit:
anyway , crafting a set of ascended armor is not a real “grind”…
when gw2 released i was surprised how easy it was to obtain endgame gear, ascended feels more like “endgame” difficulty gear rather than “grind”.

legendaries are grind (IMO), and yet i see plenty of people running with full sets of legendaries… and the TP is full with them.

i did it like on four characters just for the map completion rewards that you get, because they are so much easier than “real” map, no quests at all etc…
i understand that it can be annoying if your server is stuck on the same color, but eventually the colors shift and you can finish the other maps also.

Stats matter of course .. but having an increase of 0,5-1% in stats because of a FULL set of ascended armor, isn’t really THAT big.

5% dps increase for only weapon, and about 20% dps increase for full set of zerker gear however are significant.

there is no 20% DPS increase…
and 5% stat increase is not equal 5% DPS increase.
and even 4.9% weapon damage increase does not automatically increase your actual damage by 5%.

fire trap is very good to stack might’s.
vipers trap is to set weakness AOE
the healing spring is 10 seconds water field.
stone spirit is underrated. it is ‘almost’ as good as guardian hammer auto , in reference to protection uptime.
traited warhorn + traited f2 moa pet = group perma fury.

rangers have very good group support, it just players chose not to invest in it.

it is way too fast,
I have to skip maps, when i started the completion of fields of ruin (because the story led me to it and there is a trait to open there), i was little above the map level, and i finished in on level 59!

there are way too much stuff to do on every map….

there will be hope for dungeons when:

a- the mob AI will be advanced enough to counter group exploits (exploits is not stacking per-se, but stacking in place when mob cant use its abilities)
not only for bosses but for all mobs from veteran and up tier.

b- “condition cap” limitation will be reworked. there are various ways to work around the 25 condition stack. either by reducing the amount of stacks each class can inflict while increasing the damage of individual stack, or by resetting the stack when it
reaches top with a new debuff “condition vulnerability” that will increase condition damage by 5% each time some condition will reach 25 stacks.
for non -stacking conditions the stronger condition should override.

c- stop with the endless re-spawning mobs, this is the worst dungeon mechanic ever.

d- defiant reworked in 5 man dungeons /fractals, it “ok” mechanic for open world bosses, but a completely broken mechanic for 5 man dungeons.
remove defiance, and allow bosses to re-cast stability . this way CC and boon ripping will be important

2- yes
3+4 , they are on low CD, so they are ok. – when traited they have good radius.
6 entangle is very good as it is, try to be on the other side of entangle…
7- longer stealth for you and your pet. (at least traited longer stealth) as rangers have no ability to escape combat.

8-but we have plenty of free regen (if specced) and one of the best healing skills that we can self blast and self leap . (warhorn/GS)

10 – flanking is part of the weapon.

11- yes.

12 not sure possible, way too much development and backwards compatibility issues.

13- yes.

14- remove the ridiculous jump from sword 2… make it a small evade roll. (noob me died in EOTM using sword 2… jumped the opposite direction and fell from the ledge)
