[Suggestion] Daggerstorm

in Thief

Posted by: Leo Schrodingers Cat.2497

Leo Schrodingers Cat.2497

Dagger Storm is almost useless in PvP or WvW anyways… I really just use that skill while I’m low to gain health with Signet of Malice. That skill doesn’t do much damage – max 4K with critics… That skill needs some, uhh, damage not CD obviously.

Read up on the skill boy-oh.

Dagger storm benefits heavily when fighting multiple people. Or you are standing directly on top of someone.

The skill does not throw daggers out randomly. The ones flying off into oblivion are just visual effects. It tries to attack as many people as possible, with the number of direct hits a single player can be hit by being 8 daggers. The number of daggers a player will be hit by is inversely related to how far they are standing away. Meaning the closer you are, the more you hit them.

The skill has also been changed for the path of fire update. The duration has been reduced to four seconds, but it throws out twice as many daggers. So you don’t get as long of a reflect, but you push out more damage.

The stability you get from it lasts longer than the duration of the dagger storm.

And next… the skill gets a CDR from the trickery line.

Roll thief for deadeye or stay ranger?

Don’t bother asking questions like these till some time after the release. We don’t know the live changes, nor has anyone had time to fully figure out the class other than get an -idea- of what it can do.

As for the comment about WvW, they perform well enough in Zergs. They are particularly good at smashing people in choke points and amazing on high ground so far. They are also good at killing people who are gliding.

PvP: Like the first note I made, no one has figured out how to play him. If it gives you an idea, “pro” players will just smash tripple tap when they have the initiative for it when there was a more efficient option available… then they will caw and haw about how bad DE is. However, I’ve also seen videos where players have put DE Rifle through the ropes and had just smashed games without spamming tripple tap the entire time.

Also, don’t compare it to DD. Too many people got it in their head that DE is supposed to be better than DD, when they both functionally do very different things and have very different play-styles. I’ve seen DE’s kill DD’s just fine despite everything people say. If anything, they should be par if you put effort in learning it.

Basic Question about Deadeye WVW

in Thief

Posted by: Leo Schrodingers Cat.2497

Leo Schrodingers Cat.2497

D/P is good for dealing with people who are really sticky and will stay on top of you in melee range. On demand stealth.

Rifle abuses your power and range over the other player while providing escape functions.

You will also see Sword-dagger in the mix as it provides engage, disengage, boon-strip, evasion, and on-hit stealth.

These three sets work really well with malice. But only Rifle takes full advantage of the mechanic.

Anet, Impossible LFG for New folk

Leo Schrodingers Cat.2497

This thread is still going? I was half expecting a bunch of kitten slinging, but this is surprising.

So kittening what? Players can still enjoy and run fractals, even if they never get better then T1. which was my point, if you have some other strawman you are fussing against, quote them and not me.

Who cares? The question was how to allow new players to join LFG groups for the Raids, not for some other tier of Raids. Read the OP, the title of the thread and other posts in it before you post.

This here… It’s not hard to get into Fractal Runs. There’s a ladder players need to climb, and there’s ALWAYS people at certain tiers. Granted you got people who will tilt at the slightest mistake, or at people who were caught off guard by a massive difficulty spike in one part of a fractal (kittening captain from Urban Battleground, and Mai Trinn from her boss fractal).

But Raids? Different monster. Everywhere you look you got “No Scrubs”, “Kill Proof required”, “150+ LI only”, “Gear Check”, “Selling Raid Boss kills 5g”. From my experience… these raid parties are aweful and just full of salt and kitten.

Though… I will say I take back what I said about it being impossible. It’s actually fairly possible if you do your own LFG and know what to say.

I just wrote “LFG No-exp, don’t care about gear, experience, or LI. Just have fun” in less then 6 minutes I had a full party with a mix of players who haven’t done this raid, had never raided before, and players who had with some of the ‘necessary’ professions needed. Didn’t have a proper tank, so I tanked with a full ascended marauder’s thief and mashed yams. Cleared multiple raid bosses, including Keep construct. Anytime we hit a bosses enrage timer, we didn’t give up. Some of them we were able to kill while enraged. It was fun. Almost got Gorseval multiple times. Enraged timer would catch us, and we’d get him down to .5-1% hp before the world eater kills us. We had the DPS to force him into the next phase before he’d have a chance to activate world eatter, but we were spending a lot of time trying to kill charged spirits. Check that… we actually did kill him. But by the skin of our teeth. I think he bugged out. He didn’t disappear after he killed us all, so the left over condi damage continued to proc and finished him off.

So… I guess it is a matter of newer players being bold enough to write their own LFG.

W4 is more than chill as 3 out of 4 bosses are braindead. Deimos is ez as well with range strats etc, etc.

He’s easy with melee, and Melee ranged mix as well. His hit box extends halfway to the center letting people who aren’t as confident about avoiding the stupid stand further back and swing their pointy things in the air and steal harm him.

But the practice thing won’t cut it. Not just because players won’t do something for no loot. But because you are essentially wasting time, when you can do the same kitten ed thing to a real boss.

The only way around the whole inexperienced and elitist problem is for people to stop being kittens.

DE is bad for the same reason s/d condi thief is bad, because it doesn’t measure up to the monster that is d/p daredevil.

For a new thief build to be “good” it has to be better that d/p daredevil, but since d/p daredevil has everything a build could ever need and then some there is little chance of there ever being a “new meta” for thief.

As long as d/p DrD is 42, no new espec will ever be good.

So in your words, D/P DrD is the only way to go, when for the longest time core thieves have been murdering people before elite specs, and still do in some of the most ridiculous ways. I’m glad you’re not the one who decides what is meta and what is not.

Where's the Deadeye cover?

in Thief

Posted by: Leo Schrodingers Cat.2497

Leo Schrodingers Cat.2497

you dont need cover when you 100% uptime stealth all you do is mark your target wait 7 second pop bali 1 shot your target lol

If you PvP at all in this game you’d know that you can die quite easily in 3 seconds or less.

This game has always been about blocking and dodging for survivability more than high hp/armor which leads to more skill based combat.

So while I was watching the videos of the new Deadeye class I was just thinking to myself, holy crap he’s giving up the ability to be an effective dodger, he can’t block attacks, and he’s gonna get slaughtered.

This is why SWTOR gave snipers cover. While ‘kneeling’ you have a chance to evade attacks from cover, and people cannot ‘leap’ or teleport to you. It’s a tradeoff. You can’t block/dodge, but you get cover and teleport immunities.

So I was just wondering why there isn’t anything like that for the Deadeye.

You must have never played core thief in PvP then. Core thief is all about mind games and clever positioning. You NEVER make it easy for someone to engage on you. This is the same with Deadeye. And that was before the days that Acrobatics returned half of your endurance after a dodge roll.

Sadly, Anet made stealth attacks clunky as hell by adding a cool down to the stealth-attack in thief’s weapon sets. So… if you miss suddenly you have to wait a second before you can attack again. Which is kitten.

Even though it’s been nerfed, and I think this was by far the most uncalled for and idiotic nerf you could ever do to a class designed to catch people out, it is still worth the effort.

It’s a good chunk of damage, and soon Deadeye will actually help it out quite a bit with the malice mechanic giving anywhere between 3-21% damage increase in drawn out combat.

I do a lot of D/D with core thief. The cheap dodge on the 3 helps a lot. Something that is always helpful to keep on hand though is Shadowstep or Signet of Shadows.

Shadowstep is a nice and useful Panic button for when you get knocked down by something big and the knockdown duration is SUUUUPER long. Also useful for cutting corners when you figure out how shadowstepping works and what counts as a valid shadowstep.

Leo Schrodingers Cat.2497

Viable is not optimal, just like popularizing is not creating/inventing.

It’s baffling that this argument over which is better is still ongoing.

DD is better than the DE, as presented in the demo/stress test, in ALL game modes. It’s plain and simple…and if you have a hard time understanding that, then you cannot be helped.

Honestly I think we’ll just have to wait and see. I am by no means saying DE is better than DD, I’d say they are on par they just do things a bit different from each other to accomplish the same goal. +1 fights, burst and decap.

While your feedback post made some good points I don’t think it by any means relegates Deadeye to the position you try to claim. If anything the points you bring up in your feedback on Deadeye will only improve it further in PvP beyond where it already is, which in my opinion is still a good position. The issue you see with the execution of Deadeye in PvP, however, likely comes from not being used to the playstyle, the build being used or potentially just the player themselves. It is one thing to understand and theory craft and another to put it into actual execution.

I do want to point out, however, that some of your suggestions in regards to changes to some skills is a bit…off. Some aren’t as bad as you claim even with their initiative costs, especially if you build right, on top of the fact that some of those suggestions would put Deadeye way above and beyond just being “viable” as it would push their “strength” way above others. So while some of your feedback was good and I think potentially helpful to smooth the Elite Spec out a bit more, others I think were influenced by a bit of bias on your end seeing as you’re seemingly in the Thief’s corner when it comes to this game.

I’m sorry to say this, but your inexperience with the game and state of all classes is showing. Balance is irrelevant for everything except hardcore PvE content (raids/fractal cms) and competitive PvP (tournaments).

To put everything in simple terms so you may understand: under the current implementation, you’re better off playing a lb soulbeast than a DE, because it fulfills the role of a DE far better.

I’m sorry to say this but “condescending” isn’t a good look on you (or anyone for that matter).

I’m well aware of where balance matters and the fact that you are apparently brushing off my comment on Thief having been primarily a +1 in PvP due to burst damage along with being prime for decapping means you’re either not actually aware of Thief’s place in PvP or you are unwilling to accept any comment that disagrees or runs counter to what you say/believe.

I even said you gave good feedback, but still felt your suggestions for changes were a bit much and may even possibly stem from more of an “impulsive” reaction or not being able to adjust to the spec in the time we had allotted for testing. If you are still going to ignore other people and believe you’re right and that is that then I can do nothing to change that and discussing with you beyond this point is ultimately fruitless.

He’s always like that. You’d have better luck discussing something with a politician.

Vitality and Dodging

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Leo Schrodingers Cat.2497

Leo Schrodingers Cat.2497

Not to sound rude, but I think Anet probably has already thought of this when they were designing the game. and settled on this current system.

Dodging was not designed to be spammed for most classes. Thief obviously being the exception here but this is how they make up for a strong lack of sustain and defensive options. They were designed to 1v1 and most likely win.

Dodging, by the limited uptime of it is designed to avoid blows you know you can not afford to take. Dodging wisely will actually keep you alive longer than dodging constantly. This is because most classes suffer some form of cool down or set up.

Toughness ‘reduces’ physical damage. But mathematically speaking it raises your effective HP pool by a certain percentage per point. When you’re dealing with nothing but power builds toughness tends to go a long ways when you compare it to vitality.

Because Condition IGNORES toughness, vitality is your primary defensive attribute to this.

If a target has a low pool of health, Condi would typically be the best way to kill them if they happened to stack toughness.
If a target has a large pool of health, condi will help, but it’s best to use raw power instead as you can deal the damage real fast.
If the target has them mixed, you mix them both.

Story missions too unfair for solo players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Leo Schrodingers Cat.2497

I’ve had a problem with most of the story missions for HoT because I was in zerk’s gear, kitten the people who say use zerks by the way. You’re just bad if you die in zerks… no the lot of you are being unrealistic because I know for a FACT you’re not getting out of that clean. Otherwise you wouldn’t hear people complaining so much about pocket raptors and mushrooms.

Lots of high damage mobs and AOE fields, can easily get one shotted by bosses. Or get hit with some unusually long chains of CC so you can’t do kitten.

When I swapped to something Like marauders that could stay a little healthier when getting swarmed by a bunch of high damage mobs… it got a lot easier.

You could do it in zerks and not die. But it’s boring because it requires you to play safer by taking a couple at a time.

Anyways… Season 3 and HoT is not friendly to anyone who is squishy as heck. Get some vitality or toughness on you.

I see more people dying because they try to run through pocket raptors while ignoring them. Just about every enemy has at least one mechanic which makes fighting them easier. For example, you can potentially avoid all damage from those veteran vinetooths in AB by simply running through them to behind them at the proper time. In most cases, you’ll only take damage from the first swing.

Not complaining about the individuals. Individually, they are easy to deal with.

Mushrooms are easily kited, use a ranged weapon.
Chaks are fairly squishy pressure them will normally do the trick. For energized ones you need to be patient or eat some damage.
Snipers give you a sign that you’ve been locked on, and will fire around the time the mark disappears. (The shot can be reflected but the part that hurts the most will not and continue going)
Shadowleapers are countered by Nuhok stealth detection.
Including a swarm of pocket raptors, which you just need to cleave.

But when there’s plenty of crap that you need to worry about, you’re taking a lot of damage regardless of what you do. Especially when you need to deal with Six second long cool knock downs that may or may not get chained on you because you forgot to bring something that removes knock down OR because it’s chained you burn your only escape and get knocked down again.

Unidentified gear - Please No, No, No, Nooooo

Leo Schrodingers Cat.2497

I like the idea since, from what I’ve heard, you can salvage without having to identify AND the unidentified gear will stack with itself. This will cut back on the “hurr, I killed 5 things and now my bags are full” problem. I don’t see the big deal.

The unid loot includes ALL loot drops including exotics. You right click, salvage all, and just salvaged a pre-cursor you didn’t know about.

As much as I despise the identification annoyance that is looming …

The loot in the UnID’d container is not going to be rolled until and unless you ID. What that means is that players will be salvaging chances to roll a precursor if they salvage. That’s also assuming that IDing uses the same loot tables as other containers and random drops from mobs throughout the game. If it’s a separate loot table, with Elona-themed items, for instance, the table may or may not include precursors.

The chance for a precursor is small enough that most people probably wouldn’t give two cruds if they salvaged it. I mean, we’re talking about a chance that is only SLIGHTLY better than winning a lotery. And you can get it from killing a freaking level 5 tuna.

I’d rather play than spend the time bashing through thousands of unid loot worrying about this being the one.

Unless they give higher chances of exotics, named exotics, precurssors, or interesting skins… I don’t see it being worth the effort if you’re going to get a massive heap of masterworks.

And this is the fundamental dichotomy, folks. This new system by ANet caters to the mindset that loot stinks. Identification aids and abets players who think the way this one does, while kittening anyone who dares to actually enjoy the loot aspect of play.

There’s a way to please both groups, though. All they’d have to do is remove the cost and the need to go to a heart vendor. That way, no one loses. People like Leo salvage to their hearts content. People who want to open the containers open them the same way they do bags now. No, but we can’t have a win/win, we have to have a win/lose.

For now, lets put it at a wait and see. It could be more valuable to identify then salvage. Unless salvaging Unidfied loot happens to give lower tier leather and cloth… then well… you bet your kitten that I’m going to skip iding.

In some ways… I kinda miss paying for armor. But when I got exotics, and that was the best you could get at the time… yeah I’m glad it’s gone because that crap got expensive fast. Now I’m in ascended… I’d seriously HATE to see the cost for a repair.

But for repairing armor… there’s a point to it. Having one piece of armor break for dying too many times, and suddenly being forced to restart the ENTIRE thing you were doing really tells you ‘you should be dying less than that’.

Where's the Deadeye cover?

in Thief

Posted by: Leo Schrodingers Cat.2497

Leo Schrodingers Cat.2497

I haven’t played one yet but I watched some vids on Deadeye. Class stolen straight from SWTOR which I’m fine with, everyone copies.

But one of the benefits of being ‘immobile’ as a sniper was that you got cover.

So why isn’t the Deadeye getting this?

http://imgur.com/a/YcKvW

I’m thinking a lot of Deadeyes are gonna get rocked pretty hard in PvP the second they kneel down. Having a 50% cover and immunity to teleports seems like it would be immensely useful and almost required, as to not having kitten burn guardians tele to and burn your butt down in 2 seconds, or condi thieves stealing to you and plopping 20k condi dmg on you in 2 seconds.

Deadeye will never be a thing because its prime predator are daredevils, a way more OP spec.

Deadeye suffers from the fact most PoF specs won’t be able to cope with most HoT specs, especially daredevil since most PoF specs don’t have the defensive tools to survive.

I respect that, but I have to disagree here… Daredevils have gap closers, survivability in blinds, cleave, and short damage buffs. But they are thieves enhanced for melee in your face combat. Deadeyes are closer to home with core thieves.

If you do not get the jump on Deadeye, it will go either way for you initially with the advantage growing in DE’s favor. Especially given that Deadeye will most likely out run your damage in melee range and will certainly destroy you in range. Deadeye’s backstab WILL ONE-SHOT with some malice. and a Deadeye is more likely to make full use of all of the core thief trait lines than a Dare Devil will. Including Shadow Arts (marking someone stealths, they get 2 stealths in elite skill, Stealth stacking with D/P, damage reduction while stealthed, etc).

They don’t really have true predators, as they can turn a fight on it’s head with a few tricks.

Hidden Thief Unreliable

in Thief

Posted by: Leo Schrodingers Cat.2497

Leo Schrodingers Cat.2497

If you begin to cast an AA before entering stealth it doesn’t matter when you gain stealth; you’re locked into the animation if you let the hit through. You’ll be revealed because you dealt damage from stealth, even if immediately upon gaining it or if you pre-casted in hopes to slip it in before the proc. The stealth gain from HT is immediate and gains priority over your precasted attack, and will make you revealed upon impact. If you want to stealth attack, you must first wait to gain stealth fully before attacking.

The same as how you can begin a backstab at the very end of stealth, lose stealth before the hit lands, and still get the backstab and self-reveal skill while not gaining stealth-based benefits such as Hidden Killer because you’re no longer in stealth at the time of damage.

Mug and HT no longer conflict so I’m not really sure what you’re on about. Steal Order will be Mug -> HT stealth all the time. Odds are a precasted AA is revealing you as it’ll get placed at the end of the attack queue.

Ultimately it just comes down to learning this and dealing with it.

Well said.

Besides, it pays to wait for a moment to make sure you’re actually hitting from the back or the side.

Kneel isn’t really killing it for me. But it feels awkward as all hell to stand.

I totally agree with this. Kneel feels like a clunky mechanic and it’s only because you need to press the action again to cancel it. If the movement keys would cancel the ability it would feel so much more fluid. I would love love love to see this change.

Why do people keep asking for the movement keys to cause the standup when you need the movement keys to choose a direction to move when you roll.

This is why some people are asking for [JUMP] to be another action to break the kneel.

Noob Question about deadeye

in Thief

Posted by: Leo Schrodingers Cat.2497

Leo Schrodingers Cat.2497

I would not recommend Zerks on Deadeye, even for PvE if you are going to roll with a rifle. Take Marauders instead. Unless they changed how quickly you can crouch and get back up, it will afford you a few blows without sacrificing a whole lot.

Also, some of the mobs in PoF will absolutely obliterate you if you get hit once in Zerks. I’m not talking about in one hit. They usually hit you with a combo of CCs, so you’ll have to sit there while you eat a lot of damage. Zerks will normally get killed by it. Marauders gives you enough to survive and get away.

The "whining problem"

in Thief

Posted by: Leo Schrodingers Cat.2497

Leo Schrodingers Cat.2497

DE is basically closer to home with core thief in my opinion. If you were GOOD with core thief before the DareDevil spec came out, then DE is going to be really stupid in your hands.

My personal experience with Deadeye in sPvP, PvE, and WvW is you really need to know the core thief well before you touch it. The Deadeye doesn’t have as big of a problem with survivability like people think it does. The damage you push out will justify you leaving behind Critical Strikes to grab something like Acrobatics, Trickery, or Shadow Arts.

And rushing a Deadeye who’s competent in Melee is generally a bad idea if he has his mark on you, and had generated malice. The people who did this to me would find themselves suddenly being one shotted with a backstab after swapping to Dagger and Pistol. Sadly though if you take Rifle, and then a melee weapon instead of bow you lose the powerful terrain advantage that thieves had. Some even fell victim to the traps I had lying around to protect my flank, which then made them wide open for an easy kill.

Mobility hasn’t been a problem for me, as abusing Shadow Step, Shadow Flare, and or Infiltrator’s will keep you bouncing all over the place and make it difficult for foes to get a bead on you.

Damage being reflected has been a non-issue (and I’m not talking about the bug either). Spellbreaker’s Big barrier thing has proven to be more of a hinderance to the Spellbreaker than me. He pops shield, he think’s he’s safe. He’s unprepared for the fact that I just started the channel for #4 and shadow-stepped into point blank range so he didn’t have time to react.

I can understand them making these maps pay for. Season 2 took place mostly within Drytop and Silverwastes. This really didn’t justify the need to make players pay for it so they just made it part of central Tyria.

However, Season 3 had 5 well crafted maps. Each of which provided a different currency and some easy but time consuming ways to get Ascended trinkets and backpacks. Each map also had something that made its mechanic a little more unique.

I wasn’t there for the entire Season 3, I had parts of it. But I just went ahead and paid for the rest of it with cash. Was it worth it? Subjective to the player.

Why run it when most people are at work for the NA?

Because Anet employees are also at work and need the data from the stress tests and as she stated, its a bit unfair to also expect them to work odd hours just to perform a test that people who are available during the day can help with.

Unless Anet are one of the few studios who don’t know what crunch time is. I wouldn’t be surprised if they are already working strange and long hours.

They could have pushed it back to something closer to 12:00PM or 1PM PST where more people in NA are likely off of work or probably returning.

They never nerfed or changed the Deadeye class in anyway since the PvP beta. The deadeye isn’t made for DPS unless you take Dual pistols. Deadeye is all about his skills, and therefore dealing lots of Burst damage.

The Rifle is all burst. I’ve had no problem with killing groups of enemies using only the rifle. And Veteran Fire Hydras did not stand a chance against me. 40k damage wasn’t hard to hit either.

If you count range 900 in, then Thief with pistols is probably top. You can basically play the whole game with double pistol, it’s very effective.

Lol.

You must be one of those veterans who refuse to test out new things and ignore changes that affect weapons that were never used before. Or you only play WvW and cannot imagine that D/S + Shortbow suck in PvE. Ignorance is a bliss they say.

If you mean Sword Dagger by D/S… I fail to see how it sucks? If you can win with it, if you can get through a good chunk of the game with it, if you can kill players with it, if you can out play with it… then it’s obviously viable.

Deadeye is a WvW class. Useless in 1v1, usable in sPvP, cancer in PvE.

Is that in a good way? Or a bad way?

AMD RX series and Geforce 10XX series are both good byes. Pick what ever the hell you want from the two, you can’t go wrong anywhere. I personally rock the RX 480

To be honest though, you don’t need a super awesome GPU, GW2 is currently CPU bound. So… theoretically your processor should be fine.

Removing agony would remove one of the core traits of Fractals that made them more unique than dungeons. And it’d destroy the biggest justification for ascended equipment in the game.

3rd Vulnerability as condition in #1 attack – I was like WHAT? Vulnerability? Why? It is THE most useless condition of all. Not to mention a bit of realizm wouldn’t hurt. Like rifle isnt shooting potatoes or rocks so it could damage your armor so bad you would get vulnerable. In best case rifle shoots fast and small bullets that would fly through you leaving small but badly bleeding wound. Armor would have small hole in it and so would your character which would cause severe bleeding.

Not dissing your opinion. But you might want to look up what a rifle bullet -really- does to people. The entrance wound is small. The exit wound however is normally much larger. The super sonic speed it travels through your body will basically rip your insides apart as it travels through you. Annnd… if we say they weren’t using super sonic bullets, they probably have been hitting each other with the minie ball. And that thing caused soooo many horrors on the battle field. Anet saying that the auto attack weakens you is them being nice.

Also, Vulnerability increases the damage from all sources by a percentage. In a 1v1 scenario it has some value. But in a team fight or against bosses it is an insanely good condition.
