The whole point is to take something away to give you something new. If they allowed you to keep things then you would have even more power creep than usual.
Like, I don’t want to give up overloads on my Ele, but that’s the cookie.
Also, PoF is separate from HoT, so it can’t “depend” on anything from it, so although you will see individual Core, HoT, and PoF players, a single player cannot mix builds from these multiple game versions except for stats on items.
I understand that, but the fact is you have to sacrifice EVERYTHING. Not just overloads, you lose warhorns and shouts too. It makes sense to have to lose a majority of things, but I’m merely asking for the weapon. Nothing more, nothing less.
The fact that you have to “devote yourself” to an elite spec means that you have to follow a line that goes one direction 95%, and only splits up into multiple choices at the last 5% of the line. If we could at least keep our weapons, and I do mean only the weapons, not the specs or the unique function or skills that come with it, the line is dedicated to at least 15% more room for multiple options.
Fun fact: Power creeps will exist no matter what. At least with this option you have more of a variety.
I think its a terrible idea to have weapons bounded by the elite specs. For example, I enjoy having the option to use a greatsword on a necromancer, regardless of what people think of it. Giving up reaper shroud for the new elite spec is an acceptable trade, after all elite specs are about bringing a twist to the profession.
But seeing how a majority of necromancers weapon skills are either not good or outright boring cough staff it’ll be sad to lose a unique move set which again, can be debated on its usefulness, but at least it was unique. The same goes for the other classes. Let warriors keep torches but lose berserk mode, rangers keep staff and lose druid, etc.
“But by the time the 7th expansion comes, every class will be able to wield every weapon!”
I only think that would be an issue if every weapon had the same weapon skills and too similar of animations.
My current goal is to complete Ad Infinitum, although there are a couple of factors that are hindering my progress:
I had recently went for (and finished) my legendary armor, costing all my gold and clovers and shards and lots of mats including ectoplasm.
So I would like to join a guild that does fractals every night, preferably an hour after reset. I need the journal pages and for some reason finding groups for the daily recommended numbered fractals is harder than it needs to be.
Bonus points if your guild frequently WvW’s (and is blackgate) or raids. (Experienced raider, has most classes sans a healer. Has beaten every boss multiple times.)
i like more options, but why do we work for other options when they mean less?
All those elite specializations that allowed you to bring an extra weapon to the table, as well as additional new skills and an elite skill?
Once the new expansion roles out, once we get those new elite specs, what was the point of even getting HoT’s? Granted, there’s no telling if the new new elite stuff will be better or worse and you still have the option to go back.
But what’s the point? You won’t be able to use both at the same time, so matter what you lose something. Necros can’t use greatswords and torches, reaper shroud and sand shroud. Mesmers can’t use shields and their newest weapon, or chrono specs. It goes on.
Unless Arenanet addresses this issue, it looks like we won’t go into the new expansion with benching one elite spec.
Now its not only LI, the “hardcore” raid community is not only demanding 300+ LI, but to ping Envoy Armor as well. Not naming anyone here, but I joined a squad like that who was on the third boss and mocked the commander for the requirements, and then pinged the boss token you get from the third boss just to rub it in his face more.
I’m only at 60+ LI, but I noticed that the same squad was still in the LFG after an hour, which made me believe they were having trouble either finding members, or having trouble with the boss. If the latter was true, then rubbing it in was all the more satisfying.
Usually it happens during a PVP match (which is dumb) or a raid (still dumb) or a world boss where there’s lots of players (acceptable) and I don’t really understand why, even after I put it in the minimum settings and turn the shadows off and put the FPS at 30, even though my GPU can handle the max settings and 60 FPS just fine.
Its not an aftermarket heat sink, its the one that came with the CPU, which I understand is suppose to be more noisy than an aftermarket, but regardless it has become inconsistent with its noise when I play this game. Should I try using the 64-bit cilent instead? I’ve been using the 32-bit cilent, but my computer has a 64-bit Operating System and 64x-based processor. I should note that my computer has 8GBs of Ram.
Oh and I don’t have any other programs up unless I am raiding, in which case I discord or TS3.

Hello, I was debating on another topic which class I should prep next for a raid and I was leaning toward Rangers since I have not played the class yet and some of their builds looked fun.
I checked Meta battle on the kind of builds but I’m not completely sure which I would want to focus on for raids. I would like some more opinions before I am completely on board with starting a ranger.
Current Characters: Viper Horror Necro, Staff Tempest Ele, DPS Support Rev, Condition Engi.
With the nerf of both viper horror and Revs I want another character, preferably one in high demand. Unless its a tank role, I hate tanking. I will do DPS or Conditions.
Thanks for the comments. I swapped my ascended gear with yassmith versions. Although I still need trinkets, rings, and an amulet, I’ve noticed a significant difference between playing a condi necro and a power necro. While I love playing power necro, I am happy to be a condi necro at the moment.
Thanks for the response. It kinda irritates me because I do good DPS with my zerk reaper with spite/soul reaping/reaper.
What about my trinkets? What trinkets are best for viper builds?
I finally finished my full ascended zojja’s build: weapon armor trinket and all. I maxed out Fotm to be able to farm tier 4 fractal dailies. I get that feeling that I am finally ready to attempt to raid. Or so I tell myself.
I’m aware that condi/viper necros are in far more demand than a zerk reaper. Does that mean that a zerk reaper has no role to perform in a raid? Or do they do fine, but are slightly outperformed by another class in pure zerk builds?
I would be willing to change my ascended armor to yassith(viper’s), since I know all it costs is a couple of spirit shards and some ectoplasm. However, there are a couple of issues I am facing.
My build is Dagger/Warhorn and GS
I do not have aritificing at 500 on any character, that means no ascended scepter/staff
I am currently working on incinerator.
If I ever hope to raid, should I change to a viper/condi necromancer? Or should I stick with what I have?
Returning for season 3 of living story after a long earned break.
Main question: Scholars Versus Strength Runes. I know that still exists to this date so I want some inputs on what the better rune is for zerk reapers. I use dagger/warhorn and GS too.
Oh and I guess i should mention trait lines: Spite, Soul Reaping, Reaper. Spite for might and close to death, SR for vulnerability and extra reaper time, Reaper for reaping.
Well, the main question is still: Scholar or Strength runes?
I do not agree with OP, however, I will say that lost items should be recovered. I obtained a Zojja’s weapon chest during a fractal run before the error and now its gone. I submit a ticket in hopes of getting it back, but time will tell if that happens.
Sadly that is not the case. I have been in this guild for months. I will likely contact support if no one else has an idea on what is happening.
I belong to a guild with permissions to the guild bank and I want to make deposits for guild hall supplies, but I am unable to deposit or withdraw from my guild bank. Is anyone else having the same issue?
The first ones are painful to get, but soon afterwards you’ll be swimming in them.
This. I’m getting like 2-3 of each kind daily.
Okay, then let me go deeper. What level should I get my personal fractal reward level at? I was planning on 51, then trying to solo some of the lower levels. Do I need to be in level 51 in order to get a certain mist essence item needed for fusing ascended trinkets?
I forgot to mention that I’m at fractal level 47 and I still only have 15 AR. Trying to get to 51 before the December update, but its getting harder since people keep doing AR checks.
Am I having bad luck? I have never gotten any of the mist essences required to fuse with trinkets in the MF to create infused ascended. I have agony infusions ready but never do I get any of the items needed.
Am I just unlucky, or am I doing something wrong?
As a Viper’s necro, on a whim I ended up trying “Rise” as a utility to see if it worked on the sparks (It does), and combined with the jagged horrors from lich form…holy kitten. Paired with Blood Magic’s minion siphoning, I had insane health regen. I highly recommend it and plan on trying it as tank tonight. I think lich form is the way to go, even if you only use the jagged horrors. The bleeds they provided throughout the fight, not to mention modest hits + siphon damage they dealt throughout the fight is probably more substantial than I could be bothered to notice. I was using Blood/SR/Reaper. I was pretty regularly keeping up 600-1000 torments, 2-3k+ bleeds/poisons, and 2-4k burns. (All of those often exceeded those ranges, but often dropped below them too)
I’ve been going dagger on vale guardian as a zerk reaper and I find the siphon health (dagger skill 2) very helpful in restoring lost health. I run Spite/SoulReaping/Reaper so if I swap one with blood that would increase, but I’d lose gaining might or vulnerability with shroud skill 1.
I see. Is viper new? I don’t remember hearing about it until now.
Ugh, and it seems the only way to acquire it is going through exalted stuff.

I am finally ready to craft some ascended armor for my necromancer. I was thinking of going sinister since some of the bosses for raids can only be damage by conditions, that way I’ll be viable in both forms.
But I haven’t been here for awhile, so I want some opinions from my fellow necromancers on advice.
Is the Twilight Collection set still bugged? I heard they were fixing bugs this coming Tuesday and I just got the third legendary crafting mastery. I don’t want to start until I’m sure that it will:
A: Be less expensive overall than just buying dusk off the trade post
B: Not have to worry about any quests so that I can do everything without posting a compliant on the forums.
C/D - Ascended gear important for raids
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: LezardValeth.9453
Without Ascended Armor, just Ascended Weapons and Trinkets (obv catered to the stats you want to provide DPS-wise) the difference was a negligible 2% from fully ascended.
This is for one person. If everyone in the raid ran without ascended armor, in a perfect vacuum they would be 2% less efficient than a raid with full ascended. You can conclude each person not wearing ascended armor is affecting the raid group’s overall potential by 0.2%.
There haven’t been any raids since…very few and specific WoW Encounters that were tightly tuned to the point where one person being 2% less effective than the rest WIPED THE ENTIRE GROUP.
There is certainly no way Arenanet would tune these encounters to such a regard, it would be absurd and a failure. Given what we saw from the Raid beta, the chances you will absolutely need ascended armor on-top of your weapons and trinkets is even less so.
So essentially, it’s recommended and probably wise to get an Ascended Weapon and a couple of trinkets, but if you don’t get the Ascended Armor which many would say is where most of the cost for full ascended comes from it should never be a problem.
Good. I have all ascended trinkets sans a backpack. I was going to build ascended armor but I find the economy turning against my favor. Perhaps raids will turn things around.
are raids guild exclusive? Will the LFG option be able to be used here?
I was wondering if there is a different way in order to use Karma as a means to obtain gold with the release of HoT. Can someone inform me of the latest way to do this?
I could use some help securing the glided hollow. I’m having trouble getting a guild going, but I did manage to get enough favor and gold to purchase a guild hall. I do know that it is difficult and requires at least 4 other players with me.
EDIT
I’m available all afternoon tomorrow, but if we can contact tonight I would be interested. I’m NA on EST in case anyone gets confused.

I am a veteran guild leader from World of Warcraft and Tera Online. Now, I aim to firmly establish a beacon within Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns.
Heart of Thorns Expansion is not required, but recommended.
Raffles will be held monthly, giving guild members a chance to win big, at a small fee. The first raffle is for the precursor weapon: Dawn. PM me for more information on raffles.
Our goal is to have fun, above all else. We will get ready for raids once they come in. We encourage all types of gameplay, such as PvE, PvP, WvW, etc.
If you wish to join, send me a message here, or online.
I have played the entire game since the release date. Guess what? I barely get exotics, let alone rares.
It was worth the 50 dollars just to do what I’ve wanted to do ever since claw island. Totally worth it.
Is this true? If so, I am even farther away from Dusk than I thought. I’m almost done with Tier 1 Legendary Crafting mastery, but now I am concerned. I don’t mind having to do PVP as I’ve played my fair share, but still… I want at least one legendary on my account.
It isn’t enough if he just leaves, traherne needs to die, preferably by the player’s hand. I’m not calling the vanilla personal stories the best but darn it they were suppose to be OUR story, otherwise there’s nothing “personal” about it.
I’ve been playing tank necro in sPVP, and I will say that we literally are helpless due to the lack of stability. when I get CC’d, I spectral, then I’m cc’d again so I shroud for foot in the grave, then I’m cc’d again so I well of power, then I’m cc’d again so I try to heal, then I’m cc’d.
Meanwhile, I try to fear others and they are apparently always immune. Nos only won because his enemies had no idea what they were doing.
I’m still waiting for my veteran character slot. I got four/five beta slots but no regular one yet.
nontheless he never died a single time and killed plenty of enemies. jebro is not a necro main so i didnt expect him to do that well.
the only problem i really see right now is the greatsword, looks cool and all but the cooldowns are way too long and the life force regen is 3rd class at most.
dagger > gs for now
Strong delusions. I’m watching the cast now and he died early in the match.
Giving a class with some of the longest cool downs in the game more high cool downs on a new expansion weapon. Solid logic.
I registered it to my account and the beta slot is there, which is good. Now when do I get my veteran character slot? I’m assuming I have to wait a couple days for them to implement it.
I didn’t have a problem with Destiny’s Edge.
Traherne on the other hand… I want to kill him. And I won’t speak for everyone, but I know the majority of us want the same thing.
Well remember that on post 2, there’s some useful utilities that I’ve mentioned that you can take for when straight up damage isn’t quite enough. It’s possible to do Belka without, but should you need to you can run out of combat and run back quickly before she resets. You can take “Shake it off” for when you’re far enough distance that you know you’ll be out of combat, to remove the burning and run back in promptly afterwards.
Also remember that Belka’s attacks all can be dodged… and though it is “random” when she will use her knockback skill, you can count attacks for it and guess and it will normally work out in your favor. From my personal experience she usually does it after 5-7 burning arrow shots on average.
As for the traits… yeah see the problem is that there is nothing relevant in many cases. At the very least, you can pre-cast the healing skill at the start of an encounter for +100 precision from signet mastery. No other traits matter there, because you don’t use physical skills nor do you need fall damage reduction. This is the problem with the specialization update, as it makes it so that we are forced to take less substantial traits a lot of the time just to get ones we want. Fewer options means greater chance of this happening.
Thank you for your response. I actually beat belka today, but I had to stop at abomination. Playing while one hand is recovering from an injury is a hassle, though I felt the need to test certain things.
I just finished your guide Purple Miku and I am happy with a lot of the results. I just got my warrior to level 80 and it is very strong and viable.
I am learning how to run Arah P2 solo, eventually p3 too, but I seem to have trouble with Belka, the first boss of P2. I do everything your guide says regarding traits and utilities, but I seem to somehow die near the end, even if I hide to recover with healing signet passive. I use signet of might, fury, banner of precision, signet of adrenaline.
Another thing, I noticed one of the traits you suggest to use is the one that grants might when you use a healing skill. Ironically enough, I feel like it doesn’t sync well with a passive signet that you want to keep up so that it can constantly heal you. Would another trait be more viable, implying you want to never use up the signet?
Sorry if this has been asked before, but I read through this topic and didn’t see anything regarding what I’ve asked.
Okay, thank you.
I was planning to pre-purchase after gamescon, but I heard suddenly there was a time limit, which was July 10th. FAQ promised before launch. Which is true?
Gawds I get so dreadfully fed up with reading all the whining in forums and they owe us this, they owe us that blah blah. They don’t owe anyone anything. You bought a game you get your money’s worth. I’ve happily been with ANET since 2005 and I’ve more than gotten my money’s worth many times over. Don’t want HoT then DON’T invest in it. ANET owes nobody anything. Leave it out already, people got rewards because they QQ’d about it, enough is enough. GAME ON
Do you even READ what people are talking about? Do you even take time to process what the complaints are and come up with a clear analysis on what people feel like HoT is not worth 50 dollars? Please, please stop and think before you post again.
Anyone who thinks this is fair is delusional. They haven’t even convinced the majority of us that HoT has enough content worth paying for, and they put these stupid time limits on vets getting free character slots with pre-purchase. I hear Arenanet is going to this show on August and may show more things, but boy do they need to justify their greed and disrespectful toward the veterans.
Butterfly wings? Rats, I hope they bring them back. I want to be like Bayonetta and Madame Butterfly.
After playing much PVP I think thieves need a complete rework. They all follow the same exact pattern: backstab, pray they do enough damage to kill, rinse repeat.
In the scenario when they don’t do enough damage they stealth and run, usually because their target had turned the tables on them, and thieves are very fragile so once they pump out all their damage, they have no choice but to run. Besides stealth, which is a terrible mechanic in an MMO, thieves contribute very little to a team fight. They are the sort to pluck out already weakened foes rather than contributing to a team fight that runs for a couple minutes.
well i use well of power and well of corruption. What I like to do is to feign well of corruption by casting it where my enemy is, implying the enemy is at a distance and I am trying to close the gap. I use well of power to make him waste his evade, and while chasing I go into the well of power, converting my conditions. Now that he has less endurance I trap him with immobilize, then well of corruption.
I have spec armor for extra stun break. Foot in the grave as well.
I’ve been using joytokey to use a controller as a mouse, due to recent wrist pains springing up. Now that today’s patch hit, it suddenly doesn’t work for Guild wars 2, but all other games still work with it.
Before this patch, you would get a choice of boosters at level 24. My current character, who I started in the current patch, has yet to receive an option to choose a booster. Does anyone know what level you’ll obtain a choice of boosters?
