Awesome idea! I know I spend too much time doing some of these
Can someone please, please explain to me why I paid all this money for the expansion, and I can’t use the elite specializations because there literally aren’t enough hero points for me to unlock it? Literally if I got every single remaining hero point on my map, I would be short. Why. WHYYYyyYyYYYYyYyY
If you had actually read the thread you necro’d from the dead, you would already know that you’re wrong.
Sorry, I know how much people hate this type of post but ever since I returned to the game a few weeks ago I’ve really been struggling with choosing which class I was going to main.
I know a common answer to this is why even pick a main, just play multiple characters for different content, but I don’t have the time or the energy to play and learn multiple characters at the same time. It burned me off of GW2 originally and wow when I was playing at the start of legion. I just want to decide which class I’m going to play and experience all the content of the game with.
First things first, I have every class to 80. I had gotten that back when I quit about a year after release and when I came back I boosted a rev since it was the only thing I didn’t have max.
The classes I’m really interested in are the Guardian and Ranger. Im not a fan of the other classes – either I don’t like their weapons, their class mechanics or their skills.
My favorite weapons in the game are the Greatsword, the longbow,, sword with a shield or torch, pistols and axes. Both classes get to use the majority of these weapons which is one reason why I prefer them.
I’m not interested in really playing a very supportive play style (for example, druid healer) – I’m mainly focused on doing damage, either power or condition damage is fine with me. I don’t mind being supportive but I don’t really want it to be my main focus.
I’m looking to mostly do lower-tier fractals and WvW content. I plan on dabbling with raids and sPvP but they’re not usually my favorite type of content so my focus isn’t really on them. I also enjoy good survivability and mobility for world bosses and open world content.
For the Guardian, I love the aesthetics of the class itself and the weapon skills, and I really enjoy the theme of being a magical warrior. I generally prefer their weapon skills to the skills of the equivalent weapon on the ranger. Also, I find many sets of heavy armor in GW2 to be gorgeous, while I hate nearly all of the medium armor sets. My biggest issue with the Guardian is the fact that they are so slow! I know I can use Retreat! and staff 3 but I find active speed (over passive speed like the Ranger’s signet) to be a hassle and tend to either forget/not use them. I also struggle with the low HP pool – I’m not the best player so I struggle with using their active defense properly, and I die a lot more on the Guardian then the Ranger.
With the Ranger, I really love the mobility and survivability they bring to the table. The passive speed signet is awesome, and the fact that the pet can tank most difficult enemies I run into, especially with pet swapping, means I very rarely die in open world content. Also, right now it appears that (according to places like qtfy) rangers are much stronger in the current meta. While the meta can always change with a balance update in the future, the present is also really important. I really enjoy the concept (and fashion ability) of the pets as well, although the implementation and use of them feels rather clunky most of the time. I also find a lot of their skills visually boring, and the utility skills don’t particularly interest or excite me. And like I mentioned above, I find nearly all of the medium armor sets to be pretty ugly, making me stuck using the few outfits I own.
Hopefully I’ve provided enough details and information so you guys can help me figure out which class I should focus on. It’s gotten so bad that I’ve gotten 100% world completion on 4 classes trying to settle on one.
I appreciate your time reading and any helpful information and opinions you can provide me. Also, I apologize again for making another one of these posts xD
Let me know if there are any other details or information I could provide to help you guys help me.
Mods don’t answer here. If you want an Anet response go to a different section
And people said WoW was full of entitled people…
Welcome to every MMO that has ever existed.
I get 387 from that formula
Who uses a PEN nowadays? Google Docs is so much more hipster
Well it’s not as if there’s anything else to do, and he can hit 80, take SSs, and post pictures all over the place. Bragging right, yo
Then you’ll just have to do what you’re doing right now…wearing a different armor set.
Chests aren’t random. Chests are green gear or better.
I;ve never heard of someone getting banned for it and it’s existed for months…if it bothered them they’d say something or patch it (imo)
It’s not unfair…it’s called random.
It’s still possible.
I’ve spent more money on gems then I would have in a year of WoW. I am sad. <— me
Most interesting? Probably engineer since you have dozens depending on your skill choice
Story Arah is easy. Explorable is less so. So yes, you’re ready for Story. Are you ready for explorable? Who knows. This game is more skill then gear
I feel kind of silly making a post like this but after gambling away around 10 gold trying to get this mini I’m going for broke. The Mini Swamp Drake http://www.gw2db.com/items/21527-mini-swamp-drake is a product of mixing minis in the Mystic Forge and has no listing on the Trading Post. As such I’m hoping to make a trade with someone to get it for 2 gold, double what the highest masterwork mini is currently going for on the Post. Please reply or send a PM if you’re interested in selling and if this breaks any rule of the forums I’m sorry and will take this post down if notified.

Haha, that’s great xD
I’m thinking you’re in greens/blues. Upgrading to exotics will give you a big damage increase
They need a trade system :/
Don’t know the damage of lifesteal but the air does a lot of damage and I can’t picture them doing equal damage with a heal thrown in
Crafting at low levels is a drain of money. You waste so much money leveling the craft so it’s level appropriate that you could have saved by buying blues every 5 levels from the TP and then re-TPing them for only a 15% loss.
Then at 80 you can power-farm low level mats really easy to save some money
Bank space and bag slots are definitely a huge convenience improvement. But you should postpone those until you’ve played some and made sure it’s something worth investing in. Then it’s just deciding whether you want to pay in money or time.
I would argue that bag slots are useless since they’re character-specific. Bank slots are much more useful, especially since you don’t need to shell out extra money for a bag too
I would argue that extra bank space becomes essential but that may just be because I have so much crap i can’t do anything with
I thought the same way until I started re-evaluating my need for certain items. Now I have more space than I know what to do with.
Besides that, it’s about 50% to just create another guild for storage as opposed to paying for it via the store.
Can’t use a guildbank to store my 6 80’s gear
Learned that the hard way
There is none. You need to reverse-engineer the math yourself to find it
Note: At least there wasn’t when I was googling for an hour trying to help someone a few weeks ago
I’ve never gotten an exotic drop, but i couldn’t really care less about it
2H weapons offer a higher damage to compensate. I’m pretty sure 1 exotic 2h will do more damage then 2 exotic 1H swords
I would argue that extra bank space becomes essential but that may just be because I have so much crap i can’t do anything with
Meh. My warrior runs full berseker gear and only 10 points in the vitality tree and does just fine in most encounters. If you know when to dodge and when to heal, you could probably do dungeons naked :/
Congratulations. You can dodge AoE’s that aren’t aimed at you. If you can hold aggro for an entire (boss) battle without keeling over then I’ll be impressed (and no, running around in circles doesn’t count as you’re just screwing up everyone else in your party.)
Who said I was trying to hold aggro? Because i certainly didn’t. I’m not looking to tank, i’m looking to do one of the highest sustained DPS in the game. The guardian I run with holds the aggro.

I think you should earn 200g and buy it because you will probably spend your 500g on the forge, get nothing, and need to earn 700g instead of 200g.
Birds have highest damage but super-fragile
Felines are a little lower (except Jaguar which is the best) and a little more durable
The drake with the lightning breath is the best AoE damage with 2 strong AoEs
Salvage whites + blues
Vendor greens
OK, so now I’ve started doing things for them like repairing signs and such, what now?
That’s all you do. You need to do that, stoke the fires, and return momentos until you get the achievement (70 times helping) before it ends and you can’t do it anymore
I think it’s 75… like 75% sure it’s 75. If it’s not then I apologize for incorrectly correcting =)
It’s 75, but you can get extra credit doing the events where you plug ruptures.
My mistake. I knew it was 7x and guessed. Guess I guessed wrong
Nothing wrong with that
Being wrong is okay, because we all are wrong on the forums from time to time.
You are wrong, for I am never wrong. But I was wrong. But I’m never wrong. This is not wrong.
And everything I say is a lie. Everything.

When i first read this, I was like, well duh, that’s obvious…
But then when I thought about it, i’m not sure if that stuff stays tied to your account. Good question. Might have to ask the people who have actually done this already

Your personal story revolves around Zhaitan. You should not be able to solo killing Zhaitan. In fact, it’s a joke that 5 people can kill Zhaitan. Some elder dragon he is…
The joke is how they kill him, not just that 5 people can take him down…
I refuse to complete it so I don’t know how that happens
My warrior simply walked in and killed everything so I can’t be of much help

Also comes from the Boquet of Roses and another type of town armor i believe.
Yes fixing up the class would make encounters easier. But only if you insist on using the best gear.
If you feel a “fixed” ranger is too easy, all you have to do is drop down to rare or even masterwork weapons and armor to make it challenging again. That way both you and the people who think the ranger needs to be fixed can be happy. In its current state, only you can be happy. And asking Anet not to implement fixes others want just so you don’t have to create your own challenges is selfish.
Demanding that all professions be normalized so that none of them require much skill to play seems kind of selfish from where I’m standing. Lots of people want lots of things changed, but that doesn’t mean it will make the game better.
You know that group event where the branded champion is raising an army of twelve other branded? My ranger soloed that without dying when the only exotics she had were some level 78 weapons. Most of her armor was masterwork, and her jewelry was 20 levels or so old. It was a long fight because you couldn’t attack the champion until his army was dead, and they kept respawning while the champ was walking through an area infested with branded. I couldn’t have done that on a guardian or warrior even in the best gear. Maybe someone else who’s better at those classes could, but that champ hit hard and the only way I could see to beat him was to not get hit.
I don’t see what about Rangers that needs fixing. They require a little more involvement, but if you’re willing to do it, they can accomplish things in PVE that other classes can’t. They are a really good class to solo (Lone Ranger, ha!) and they don’t need the uberest gear. I do perfectly fine in dungeons. I can contribute in WvW. Every profession has it’s own strengths and weaknesses. Just because one profession does something better than another doesn’t mean something needs fixing.
What’s wrong with having some classes that are easier to play than others? It is traditional for the warrior to be the “beginner” class in MMOs. They’re tough, they focus on DPS, and their class mechanic tends not to be very complicated. It’s not a bad thing for different professions to have different play styles – I never did get the zen of the Mesmer, but my husband’s Mesmer is awesome. Folks on the forums complain about all of the professions, but I have seen each of them built and played well enough that I’m convinced most of the complaints are based on folks not really understanding the profession.
If you want to ignore the issues with rangers, that’s fine.
However, the devs themselves have said Rangers are the most broken out of all the professions, and have been promising a large patch for a few months now to fix it.
Rangers are the ONLY class to have skills that were REMOVED in beta and then put back in for release because they didn’t design a replacement for them in time (or ever…apparently).
Waypoint pet AI is atrocious and is terribly inefficient for any fight involving movement.
Arrows bug on terrain constantly. Longbow is very easy to strafe out of.
Spirits and Shouts are completely useless except in a few circumstances.
Weak weapon variety leads to unvaried build variety (which is a pretty common issue, true).
It’s unbelieveable that sword attack #1 hasn’t been reworked/improved/changed so as to not root you in place and prevent you from dodging effectively.
Rangers are woefully under-represented in the top sPvP teams.
Do other classes have issues? Yes, absolutely. Necros immediately come to mind. But the amount of issues rangers have, especially revolving around their pet, a core class component, is extremely hampering.
It’ll be more then 1.5gb. There have been 2-4 really large patches since haloween, Wintersdays’ 1.5 was just one of them
It does work like the necro mask, because you’re transmuting the skin, not the stats. You can easily transfer the skin but the stats are always left behind when un-soulbinding something
I heard that one hint comes from using a trebuchet in an sPvP map.
No. Make your own.
However, you won’t be a able to take a hit for quite a long time, so using staff and kiting around everything is a pretty good way to go for general PvE as you’re levelling.
The most common choice is going dagger/dagger and putting 30 in Arcane trait line for constant switching through attunements which constantly gives boons. But the play styles available for the jack of all trades Elementalist are seemingly limitless, experiment around, find strategies you like, and for the love of god don’t just mindlessly follow someone else’s build.
You’re way too worked up over using someone else’s build…
There is absolutely nothing wrong with using a build crafted by a well-versed theorycrafter, and in fact all 6 of my 80’s use multiple crafted builds by well-respected build crafters.
Originality is great, but I want a build that os optimal. My own “personal” touch doesn’t make a build optimal.
Eh, each to their own. I find it much more interesting to build my own, even if I think my build is good, I will find things wrong with it on the journey to 80. Granted if I see someone using a good strategy, I will try to incorporate it into my own. But the idea of after hitting that Create Character button and jumping on google to just mindlessly follow a guide just seems… Stupid. Like, when you start playing a new game do you just have the guide sitting there next to you? Making you sure you do everything 100% “optimal”? Where is the fun in that? I would rather reach the end on my own, there is satisfaction in mastering a character you built yourself.
To answer your question, yes, I do that. Plop in a console game, open up the optimal achievement guide, and follow it to the T.
Designing un-optimal stuff isn’t fun to me, but you’re right, to each their own. And that’s not an insult to you, but based on the majority of self-made builds being inferior to a theory-crafted, tried and true crafted build.
