The case for Ritualist.

I can see urns a Kit working, kind of like bombs except you manually have to drop it. And spirits as utilities are pretty obvious as we already have the ranger version in the game, and a stationary attacking minion in the Flesh Wurm. Whether they would be brave enough to put two profession mechanics into one elite spec though remains to be seen.

Maybe instead of urns as a Kit, they could do something like give staff a new function when the “Ritualist” elite spec is equipped, maybe giving it an AoE auto attack like Guardians but one that could be the GW2 equivalent of Ancestor’s Rage in a close range 360 strike, and then putting one or two “urn” skills on that, with Spirits as utilities.

How about we say 16 years of age, the actual age of the character?

He’s 21, according to the wiki. Born in 1309AE and the current year is 1330AE on the Timeline page. But according to that, the events of HoT happened 2 years ago in game, so take that with a pinch of salt lol.

I have no knowledge of what was supposed to be good about GW1, I played it for one weekend last year, and it was sooo slow and the graphics seemed like the 1990’s were gonna call and ask for their graphics back.

I can’t tell if you’re joking or trolling or just plain ignorant, but GW1 wasn’t even in the same genre as GW2. It was released in 2005, a year after World of Warcraft, so was probably being developed in the ‘90s or at least the very early part of the 21st century. It was a co-op RPG, definitely not an MMO. Whether or not you enjoyed it was completely up to you, but you’re comment about 1990’s graphics made me laugh.

Elite spec - What would you like it to be?

in Guardian

MelGT.8326

I’d be unenthusiastic about a condi elite spec. The class literally only has burning baseline, and only a couple of traits that even support that. It would take more than one specialization to make a condi Guardian actually viable, they would need to rework a lot of the class.

I’d be more interested in the support aspect too. They already have some interesting and overlooked traits that focus on the Aegis boon, like Pure of Heart (Aegis you apply heals when it blocks, on yourself or allies) and Shattered Aegis which does the same but damages foes. And the give Aegis to allies when you block an attack trait. Maybe adding a trait like “Aegis you apply heals for X every second” on an elite spec would work well with Pure of Heart. Not a huge amount of healing, but turning Aegis into the Guaridan’s support boon that has extra benefits only for the elite spec could be interesting. The same way that Chill is the theme of the Reaper. And they already have the shield and focus that mesh pretty well with the support side with Regen, Aegis, blocks and area control and healing, if we are getting an axe for our next weapon.

Armor Repair feels pointless

MelGT.8326

I was thinking this earlier. I got an Instant Repair Canister from one of the “Black Lion Goods” chests from log in rewards, and just used it to get rid of the annoying symbol on my health bar. I think the only reason it’s still there is to put some RPG into this MMORPG, it’s utterly pointless right now. The same as those “Teleport to Friend” consumables that I have loads of.

There is so much redundancy in this game, with these added to the bag fulls of Fine and Masterwork Sigils and Runes you get after a HoT meta event, the bags within bags of vendor and salvage trash… they really need to take a look at some of these things. Again.

I may be imagining it, but when they increased the amount of keys and currency you get in the maps when it turned out that it was ridiculously grindy at launch, they said they wanted to keep one of the maps currencies and keys quite rare still, to give people something to “work for”. Unfortunately the dart they threw landed on Tangled Depths, the map that’s the most annoying to navigate for events, and it’s just got worse since the new maps came and practically no one does the events in the launch zones other than Auric Basin exploitin’.

Revenant Mace Skill: Searing Fissure

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: MelGT.8326

MelGT.8326

This skill hasn’t worked properly since HoT launch. I don’t want to sound melodramatic, but this skill actually made me stop playing in the early part of the year, or rather, it was the “straw that broke the camel’s back”. I turned the game on today, and had a play about with an extra Revenant I was leveling back then using the mace instead of the very standard sword. I was shocked to see this skill is still almost completely unusable!

It completely fails to work on any enemy that is even slightly higher or lower on the terrain than where you cast it. So basically, to get this to work on any ground that isn’t almost completely flat, you have to cast it, then back-step to get the mob to move to the position where you initially used the skill. And for a skill that lasts 3 seconds and has a 3 second recharge, that makes it slightly not fun.

The graphic shows correctly, but it rarely, if ever does anything to any enemy not standing almost directly on top of you.

Other “field” skills seem to work perfectly fine on uneven terrain, so why is this one (and a very important part of actually being able to use the mace as a weapon) still, over a year later, not working properly about 90% of the times you use it?

MelGT.8326

Has condi revenant even been fixed yet? I was considering playing the game again because I loved the playstyle of it in PvE, but the last time I tried it, or even played the game (in the early part of the year), it was practically unplayable because of bugs with the fire field skill, mace #2 I think, not working on unveven (read: any) terrain.

Making condi revenant a thing [pve]

in Revenant

Posted by: MelGT.8326

MelGT.8326

Until they fix mace #2 (and to a lesser extent axe #5) to not fail on anything but a completely flat surface there is little to no point in even considering a condition build in PvE. The burning is what does a lot of damage and with the spammable fire field not working on even the slightest change in elevation it’s 100% useless.

I wanted to try out a condi build and even started leveling a new revenant for fun and had a build all planned out. But after getting to about level 25 gave up out of sheer frustration. The only way for it to work is to stand on top of the mob and use mace #2 and hope it doesn’t move more than a couple of steps in any direction. Ok for solo leveling, completely untenable for anything more complicated.

[pvp] Rise vs Spectral Armor

in Necromancer

MelGT.8326

The one minor down side to “Rise!” is that the Shambling Horrors have to be attacking someone/thing to give you the damage reduction.

“Damage foes around you. Summon a shambling horror plus additional horrors near each enemy struck. Shambling horrors absorb damage for their master as long as they are attacking.

So running onto a point covered in DH traps with no enemies around, you will not get the damage reduction, for example. But it’s a very niche scenario for the most part.

MelGT.8326

They sound cool, but as stated, they will cost 75+ gold to make. For one weapon. I doubt you would spend that upgrading -all- of your gear from level 1-80. And they might be usable by more than one character, but no weapon is usable by every class. They’re interesting… for novelty value alone. By the time you’ve logged in enough times, grinded enough rares or the gold to buy rares, found enough T4 TB maps, the character you wanted to use it on to level would be level 80 and it would be completely pointless anyway.

MelGT.8326

Adding difficult content isn’t the issue…adding that content constrained by timers is a problem for many…

This is the problem. The new meta events aren’t particularly challenging per se, but they are not like The Silverwastes, which was very jump in-jump out (if you just wanted to do a Vinewrath kill, you could easily find a taxi for a map very much in progress and on track). For those of us with full time jobs and partners/families and other commitments, you can’t just join a map at any time, play for 30 minutes and get a nice little reward. You will at best just about get your “participation” to 100% and may earn a couple of bonus chests that contain… not much.

While I understand the benefits of scheduling the final parts of the meta events to happen at different times to each other, the fact they are scheduled only really helps those that can schedule their lives around the game, and not vice versa (which I would imagine is the case for most people). So if the times you can play don’t match a meta event that you need to complete, it’s kind of difficult to get much done.

And once you realize you can’t do many of the meta events, Heart of Thorns really doesn’t offer much else on the PvE side outside of hero point hunting on alts for those on a limited game time.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

MelGT.8326

The gem store as a whole is ok, I’d rather that than pay $XX a month for a sub fee. The thing about the gem store that is NOT ok is locking new weapon skins behind a literal gambling system.

I know you can buy Black Lion Keys for gold by the gold→gem exchange, but it doesn’t change the fact that you need to have luck to get one of the ten+ scraps to make a ticket to buy the skin. Just give us the option to drop 500 gems or whatever and buy an account bound skin already. Keep the sellable ones on the trader as it is now.

I’m not buying, and never have bought, a single Black Lion key for money on the gem store when most of the time you get an unidentified dye that’s usually a blue worth a couple of silver at best, a one time use instant bank access (or similar) and an almost useless booster. It’s gambling at getting something good, and I’m quite surprised it’s even allowed, as some countries have very strict rules about what is and isn’t gambling online, especially in a game that has a sizable younger audience.

Ley Line Crystals

MelGT.8326

I got the collection items for the Machined Longbow and Machined Staff yesterday from Ley Line Crystals. No, they do not drop from the caches, the amount you get from Nuhoc Supplies is minimal at best (the vast majority of the time you get 5, but you can get 50+ extremely rarely). The only place they come from in any quantity is the participation reward chests (15) and end of meta cycle chests (I think 75, or more if you defeat the Gerent successfully, and you also get quite a lot when the “Help the Outposts” phase is over not just after the main event). I got the 500 I needed in 2 and a bit meta event cycles.

Luckily I had the time to sit down and play that long for a change, because you need to get your map participation bar to max as fast as possible, and ideally stay on the same map for well over an hour to see any sizable Crystal amounts. Why they didn’t make it as simple to get as Engine Parts in Verdant Brink I don’t know, this way is really not useful for people who can only play for like 30 minutes or so at a time.

Any of the new metas need to be looked at in this regard. I finally had enough time to be on the game in one sitting and try to get the Verdant Brink one done at Tier 4 for day and night, as I heard this was the only way to get the Bladed Coat Box. I wasn’t commanding but I was giving instructions to the map to make sure rally points were defended, upgraded and so on. We got 3 of the 5 bosses down and were well on course to hitting Tier 4 night.. and of course, I got DCed. Checked my internet browser instantly, no internet problems at all. Rejoined the game ASAP to find I was on a completely different instance of the map with 0% participation and half way through Tier 1. I don’t have the motivation, let alone the time, to try that again any time soon. It felt like I had just wasted a couple of hours of my life, a feeling I’ve never really got with this game before. This needs some kind of fix as possible.

Guardian Spirit Weapons - Feedback

in Guardian

Posted by: MelGT.8326

MelGT.8326

They need to consider making them permanent until death (like the Necromancer minions). Maybe as a trial period between major balance patches. As it stands now they are almost pointless. They have similar cooldowns to the Necro minions but only a ~50% (or less if they are individually targeted) up time.

Necromancer minions bring (when fully traited) a lot of Toughness meaning you can go full Berserker and still have decent defenses, a lot of condition removal/transfer, not insubstantial healing if you have Blood Magic, poison fields and explosions on death, and if you go into Reaper and take the right traits you can have a flat -50% damage on a nearly 100% up time with the right conditions.

The spirit weapons are clunky to use, glitchy and unclear about whether they are supposed to be offensive, defensive or support as a whole. They also have traits to make them burn on hit but that doesn’t work well enough to fit them into a burning build when you have Meditations and Consecrations that do the job much better.

There’s always going to be a community made “optimal” set up for everything in the game. Especially with random pick up groups. And it’s not a bad thing either as it stops someone running say a thief with pistols in clerics armor from bringing a group down. The same has been true for dungeons since launch and, to a much lesser extent, Fractals.

At the end of the day, if you don’t like what a group in map chat or the LFG tool is asking for, don’t join it and/or make your own group.

Dhuumfire in PvE feels very lackluster. When you’re in Reaper Shroud, once you have used #4 and #5 your condition application goes way down, and the few seconds of burning on auto attacks doesn’t make up for losing scepter+dagger/focus and your utilities. I agree with what was said above, about changing it to be like the Engineer’s Incendiary Powder, but maybe slightly Necromancer.

For example, when you apply x amount of conditions to your current target, they ignite and cause 3 stacks of burning to 5 targets in the area for 5 seconds with a 10 second cooldown. Maybe switching Dhuumfire and Weakening Shroud (cast Enfeebling Blood when entering shroud, which is more of a Soul Reaping trait anyway). That would at least give us an option to use the overpowered burning condition more reliably as we’re currently the only condition class that has it, but has very weak access to it.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: MelGT.8326

MelGT.8326

I think for now if you want to do meta you will need to look out for taxi in LFG.

It makes more sense to me to do it the other way around. Make a taxi for all the people looking to PUG the raid. That way they can all be in one map, and you don’t have 2 or 3 people in each map spamming map chat hoping to find a group on that one map, with the rest afk around the raid portal waiting for the slim chance that someone will be forming a group that requires their class and build.

All it takes is one person to turn one Verdant Brink instance into a LFR map via taxiing people in using the LFG tool, and then the rest can be used to actually do the events on the map as intended.

It does make the idea of condition based Reaper a bit more interesting, but it also highlights how woefully bad Blighter’s Boon is right now. It’s barely even an option compared to this and Reaper’s Onslaught. That was a brutal nerf, go look it up to see what a real one looks like.

Think of it like paying for something on credit over a period of months rather than one lump sum. I’m definitely one of those people that has probably had enough to buy multiple legendaries over my years of playing but never have a lot of gold at one time. As soon as I get to a couple of hundred I usually see a shiny on the TP that I impulse buy lol (scientific shield skin was the latest for a engineer I’m leveling with the Magitech armor that was also impulse bought through gold>gem conversion a while ago).

It may or may not be more expensive than straight up buying the precursor, and if you have enough gold to do that there’s little to no reason to do the collection unless it’s just for the fun. This way for people like me (and I’m sure I’m not alone, lack of restraint on the TP-wise) it will be something I can work towards and not lose progress on just because I caved in and bought another sparkly skin off of the TP!

Classes that are overpowered in marketing events/betas and the early days of release sell game copies. The elite specs will all possibly be toned back to match their vanilla counterparts, probably leaving necromancers exactly where they were pre-HoT release; fun to try solo in PvE, auto-kicked from LFG.

/tinfoilhat

Edit to make this post more intelligent..

Exactly what boons do we have outside of stacking might in one particular build on <50% enemies? A poor regen on a short cooldown Staff 2 skill? Some Retaliation on Axe 3? Stability from a grandmaster trait when we enter death shroud? And some random other longer CD utilities etc. I thought the whole design concept of Necromancer was that it didn’t have many ways to produce boons, the same way some classes don’t have access to certain conditions outside of sigils.

I agree that an internal cooldown of say 1 or 2 seconds would have been better than this.

Hindsight is great, but maybe a better idea would have been to “frontload” all of the talents and utilities into the first 200 points you earned, then left the final 200 points for the advanced options, like unlocking the runes and cosmetics and maybe the elite skill. That way you would have had your functional spec to play with almost instantly if you had devoted time to the game pre-HoT launch, then have something nice to work for for the rest of your time in the jungle, and still be able to quickly catch up if you boosted to 80. Still this is a better change for those with alts or those most hyped about the elite specs.

I can see the problem now, you need to be right on one spot in the event area to have it show in the tracker, literally one tiny spot in the whole area. If you move away you are unable to see event progress. Unclear whether it’s something only I’ve got and if it’s something in my options still.

I reinstalled the game on Thursday, saw that an event was planned and waited until yesterday to try to see if I wanted to get back into the game for the expansion.

I checked out the vendor when the event started, and saw the 2 gloves and shoulders skins. “Awesome!” I thought, “I’ve always wanted those skins, I’m totally up for an evening of grinding to get at least one set.” I did one meta event, saw that I got 25 blooms and thought “huh, I guess that’s not too bad”… Until it was brought to my attention that 20 of those came from a DAILY reward chest, and then that the events were only taking place once an hour or so, in one zone only. I had to go back to the vendor to double check the cost (and OTT gold cost as the extra kick in the teeth) of the rewards.

If I did every event over the whole weekend without sleep or paying a blind bit of attention to my partner, I -might- have got some of what I wanted. If this is a sign of the quality of things to come, I’m glad I haven’t bought the expansion to be honest.

It hasn’t changed, it was always affected by Meditation traits, because it’s been a Meditation skill since it came into the game. The only extra it got was from Smiter’s Boon (cast Smite Condition when you use a heal skill) which certainly added to it, but it’s always had the extra heal, Fury and CD reduction when traited.

I really want to like and use the shield, but (in PvE at least), the lackluster damage and minimal protection on Shield of Judgment is not worth it, and the knockback on Shield of Absorption is situational at best. Even in PvP both are situational.

The focus just does everything the shield should do (with support regen, blind (+vuln if specced for it), a blast finisher and some additional blocks), and that’s always going to be a problem if the shield skills remain the way they are.

Edit: Or at the very least, let guardians transmute shield skins onto the focus so they actually get to use one!

A lot of people are getting insane lag at the moment. Fine for a minute or so then a huge lag spike. I just jumped down a cliff, and didn’t take any fall damage. “Hmm, strange!”. A minute later while running I just randomly fell on the floor and died.

Thanks, that’s not what I meant. It says you get hero points from leveling, the leveling scrolls give levels, and the patch notes says you get them “every odd level”, but I didn’t get any.
