I must say I am pretty sad that so many people assume that all those MMR-Hell-Players think they deserve legendary etc… Whilst most likely all they want are something close to balanced matches with teammates that act like their division.

I was there, helped out a friend levelling up from Emeralt, lost 6 games in a row. The players you then meet in low-lvl diamond are absolutely mindblowing. I don’t say that I am perfect, but at least I don’t three-man cap close or try to steal enemypoint with an ele whilst said class is defending it leaving my fellow dps’ers die in mid because we only got 1 point etc.
You could argue that I just play bad, but when 4 people in your team have 0 points for an entire match then I feel it can’t always be me

And yes, I first also thought people get better in higher divisions, I was proven wrong.

In all honesty, based on what i’ve been seeing with thief, and playing it in ruby and diamond almost 100%.. if they just increased short bow damage by about 30%, I think thief would be perfectly balanced.

I would prefer 30% base damage for bigger burst, but I wouldn’t be disappointed with 30% attack speed/travel velocity or reduction in initiative amounts or a combination of the above.

I think it’s the only thing were missing to compete with the top tier classes and to give rev a run for their money.

Just a note, i think its totally okay for classes to have “soft” counters, and I think increased shortbow damage would be one way to make the “hard” counter classes more of a soft counter.. although not completely, but its a start.

My latest class is bunker healing shout ele. Closest thing to a healer/cleric in this game. Running magi ammy…

I can heal npcs and players a lot with shouts and warhorn skills. It’s nuts. I do no damage but the support it provides is unreal compared to any healing build in the past.

I like the common idea some people are talking about which is if you are playing thief you can beat classes 1v1 if you don’t screw up… I screw up in ele all the time and I can hold a point or keep npcs in stronghold at 100% for a while before having to back out… Making tons of mistakes and just spamming buttons…

Thief really isn’t the 1v1 king we used to be. We used to pistol whip someone from 100-0. Those glory days are long dead. We’re actually told NOT to 1v1 anyone. Not a single person. I’ve been talking to higher skilled Thieves like Vallun, and he was telling me that it’s not our job to 1v1 anyone. We’re merely supposed to be +1’ing and decapping nodes that aren’t manned.

At this point, I kind of see Thief as a support role. We’re like that burst cooldown that someone pops when kitten starts getting real and they need to down someone fast.

Does your teammate need an interrupt on demand? We got that.
Does your team need a node decapped real fast and then head back to the teamfight to +1 and burst the kill target? We got that.
Does your team need someone to rush to stillness/tranq to get it before the team can react? We got that.
Does your team need someone to kill that treb so they can take mid? We can do that.

Thief isn’t really the 1v1 dueler that we used to be. There’s an acro staff build floating around that’s good at 1v1’s but it takes a long time to kill anyone with it, granted you won’t be killed either, but Anet has decided that Thief is really just for map control. We play the map. That’s it. If you want a good 1v1’r and team fighter, play Rev.

I was dueling a mantra power mez friend of mine today, and lost every duel unless they messed up badly. They used their mantras and bursted me from 100-0 in 2 seconds. Not even joking. And that’s with the meta D/P build. We dueled probably 15 times. I won twice because someone decided to +1 for no reason, and another because they had the wrong mantra on their bar the whole time. After getting a little tilted, I hopped on my Rev and never lost a duel again.

The old Thief role has really been taken by Revenants. I only play Thief now when I just want to play the map game and +1 when it seems necessary. Hell, Revs are also great at +1’ing as they have a plethora of knockbacks, an AoE stun on a tiny CD, and Staff 5 is just crazy. And they rez people like a god while tossing out small heals and great boons.

TL;DR: Rev is just better now at everything we can do. Sure, we can run a LITTLE faster, but that’s it. If you want to 1v1/teamfight, just play Rev. It sucks, but it’s true. Anet needs to fix this.

In fact, without HOT = loser.
Don’t want to buy HOT which is no fun, but S2 forced you to buy.
This was Anet really want, i saw through the decision and uninstalled it today.
I don’t want to challenge any more.

Im having tons of fun on my non-hot second account, and usually end the game with quite a few top stats. I cant say I have a running winning streak all the time, but then I queue at times when theres only 10 people queueing in my piprange (if I am lucky, otherwise Ill have to wait 30+ minutes for a match).

About every 7-9 wins I get 1-2 losses.

I am in end of sapphire, dont really have the ambition to get to legendary on a measly second account, but well… if its ruby then fine. Might even go until diamond.

The new amulets btw, help a LOT. Try out those old OP builds, tweak them a bit and you are nearly as strong as with hot-specc. Of course you have to be good to make up for those missing few percent that non-hot builds are not as good as hot builds.

But it definitely is NOT unplayable.

To loosing streak:
If you experienced a loosing streak of some magnitude (Id guess something around 5+) then that means your mmr is totally kittened.
Which is the moment you should stop playing… and go find a team yourself.
If you dont want to do that, and want to keep anet doing that job for you, then you cant really complain about it.

I uninstalled it, because i’m casual.
Thank you for your suggestion, but i am tired really.
I will go to play The Division, see you my friend.

I think a big problem is, if its matching up people close to your MMR, but there is a low population, there is a good chance the people on your team will be "closest"" to your mmr, but in reality are far away from your MMR but simply are the closest cause of the low population.. I wonder if anet adjusts for this somehow ….

ive noticed my experience differs widely depending on what hours I play, and I think this could be a big part of it. Like afternooons to early evening for me I get matched with good people, but mornings … forget it. I hope anet adjusts the change in MMR to be much l ower if you get matched with teams like this and lose, and hi gher if you win.

im having the same issue… once I hit ruby for some reason i’m getting teamed up with REALLY REALLY BAD PLAYERS… breezed through amber, emerald, and sapphire, now.. my win rate is 10% in ruby… stuck at 0 tier ruby because the people i’m getting matched with are far below my abilities… and most games are blow outs… 500- sub 250

win rate of maybe75% so far.. kind of nice. I notice I’m getting lessed matched with players that do really dumb things… although the games I notice I lose there is always at least one player running into losing fights not understanding peeling and always snowballing.. or going for beast when team needs more in team fights…

last season was very frustrating for me….

Glad those players on my team are few and far between…

whatever changes they made, really helping me

although i just had two matches… last one landslide, obvious baddies on my team… and the other one had a guardian that did exactly what I stated above.

staff has 10% higher dps than dp mathematicly proofed somewhere. Autoatack is better ans auto + skill uasage is better for staff. this is one of the reasons why i like staff more

use a meta build if possible, although there are good theif builds that aren't on metabattle.

Also, rune of mesmer is good in theory, but in practice its sub par, you want pack, vamp, daredevil, evasion… depending on if you go d/p of s/d.

To be honest, I have seen some really good bunker ele carry the whole team fights (and ofc bad ones dying in a second).

Edit: BTT: The best way to carry in SoloQ is not playing 1 profession, but multiple. Your team needs a roamer play revenant a point holder? Scrapper; Team-Support? Ele or Druid.

The problem with thief being able to beat necro’s is that you cannot hold/cap/decap a point while doing that. Which means your win is futile in most situations..

fear + immobilize and you will be able to decap

because necro clearly doesn’t have enough instant condi transfers….

It is is yes. S/d isn’t bad, its viable, but D/P is the best bang for your buck.

Been playing an Acro build this week and mostly enjoying it. What I am finding though is that the trait line isn’t very acrobatic or mobile.

Expeditious Dodger swiftness is too short and really needs to be doubled.

Endless Stamina is a very very minor buff basically equating to roughly one extra dodge every 40s assuming a player can keep vigor on for the full 40s. I get they don’t want to give back the 3rd dodge bar but IMO this trait should refill endurance a set amount per evade.

Don’t Stop is mostly a rip off for a GM trait. It should be nearly as good as Unhindered Combatant maybe without the Swiftness, distance or damage reduction. It should also have a much shorter cooldown if it has one at all.

Upper Hand should have its Regen on 2s but the initiative gain per evade.

Assassin’s Reward is still under performing after its buff.

The bright sports are Pain Response, Hard to Catch and Feline Grace. Everything else is very meh or outright crap.

endless stamina is okay, buff to 75% would be fair imo.

Don’t stop is weak, actually downright horrible. It should be reduces effectiveness AND duration. Chill is so strong with necro’s right now…

assassins reward should be heals per initiative spent steals an additional 100% if a strike hits… but have its base healing reduced by 50%. so 51 health per initiative + an additional 51 health stolen if strike hits… or something similar. This will allow the more damage with the acro line, which is the biggest issue with this trait line imo.

Do not underestimate swindlers equilibrium……

Oddly enough, necro doesn’t give me that much trouble. It being my main, I know to haul tail when shroud comes up, usually they don’t try to follow and they drop out of it. I steal to them and pressure right at that moment because I know I have at least 7 sec to play with.

theif can deal with necro’s im just saying overall your better off engi or necro.. OR IF YOU LIKE THE IDEA OF THIEF… ROLL REV

I’ve been playing necro for a while, long before HoT, but I’ve been playing on my thief a good bit recently. I like it for PvE and WvW. Have no trouble in PvE, but I could use some tips for fighting in WvW or against other players in general. What to look out for and avoid, aside from DH’s, and how to approach each class in a general sense.

overall game is much more balanced than it was before big patch. that being said, a few things need work….

-Rev direct damage needs toning down
-ele needs a little love in the survivability department, not much though
-thief needs a little something, i’m not sure, its almost there… maybe its just that rev can do almost everything thief can better….
-guardian: to gimmicky, dominant in low to mid tier pvp, needs a little rework to make better at high tier and less effective in low tier.. not sure how t his can be done
-Necro, engi need a little toning down… not much, but a little bit in either survivability or damage
-nerf ranger pet dps…

warrior needs help a bit. Mesmer needs a little help, but not much.

Necro chill kitten eeds tone down. Engineer dps/survivability needs tone down.
Ranger survivability/dps is silly. Nerfing pet dps would be fair.

Thief is perfect. if you nerf bound damage then its aoe range needs increasing.
Ele is perfect.
Rev is perfect. The nerf to shield 5/auto attack sword pretty much made this class balanced.

The longer warrior sustain, the more dangerous they become? Nope it deosn’t work after shout heal nerf, and also shoutbow is alao gone. probably druid can do this what its deacription says.

if you go for reousing resilence you should trait savage instinct and put outrage instead of or the sigil of stamina or berserker stance since you reling on break stun to provide heal and 1k toughtness.

Yes I was swapping that out depending on who I fought.

However, I have updated my build here it is. I run arms now. Adrenaline while in combat + 100% crit on burst skill. Leeching on mace. Running Eternal champion to help with survivability (less CC prone). I find this flows much better in combat and I am more effective when my burst is always critting. Not critting with rifle burst hurst more than anything.

The more I win, the worse my teammates are. Whats the logic behind that?

Give me enemies on my level instead of forcibly tanking my level by saddling me with players that dont even know theres a minimap that you can see enemy players on.

Because MMR doesn’t reflect skill, it reflects the skill of every team you pugged in. The biggest lie about MMR is that it is able to pick your skill level out of 5 random people over time. But if you are top scorer in 95% matches and keep getting long losing streaks then it is not assessing your or everyone else’s skill level accurately.

its actually easy to point farm and do nothing for your team.

if that is all they are doing.. no one will run acro… still. Acros problem is that its utility doesn’t outweigh its non-damage buffs compared to the other lines. I think all lines have some type of damage multiplier (even shadow arts has siphon life with venoms).

AND all the other trait lines have good utility skills. Why would I take acro over deadly arts…… the buff to sword might change the game where having something like deadly arts would be too much damage (think diminishing returns)….

SB auto attack damage needs buff to either base damage or attack speed as well. I would personally prefer attack speed… but thats just me

its really bad. PVP is such a bad experience right now, the people I get matched with … its not even about division… I go on huge losing streaks because the people on my team do some really bad bad stuff… and lose games (going for mob right off the bat in forest…. overcommitting to 4v2’s and leaving nodes open, not going for buffs in temple(the right buffs mind you ), defending treb in kylo.. just really bad stuff… and I k eep getting teamed up with these guys and stuck in this endless abyss call ruby. It makes me sick.

I’ve decided to take a break for the next week until the patch comes, hopefully they fix this matchmaking…. ITS such a bad experience.

hard counter…. properly spec s/d thieff… Heal on evade, remove condi on evade, sword #2 “spam” remove condi, shadow step remove condi.

Its funny, sword 3 on thief with s/d while rev does their sword #2 heal/burst combo is a big heal for thief.

unfortuantely that isn’t meta… and thief sux, so you don’t have to worry about it much..

shadow trap, and trip wire or w/e it is works really well for peeling away from the fight,.. you can knock down enemy and with rune of trapper gain superspeed and stealth…

shadow trap to decap or +1 works okay…

Then you take shadowstep just because its the best utility we have.

can do d/p sb, or staff s/b… use daredevil .. dash and bound work equally just depends.

So, I quit about 2 weeks after HoT launched. I got so frustrated with Druids and Reapers seeming to fulfill every position Warrior used to fill 2x better and the zerker meta seemed to still be alive and kicking. Additionally, I always felt that when I lost a fight to an elite spec it was simply because they were an elite spec and NOT because they were better than me. (GW2 being P2W now is a discussion for another thread, although it’s a discussion that I feel NEEDS to be had at some point)

How is the situation now?

Are elite specs dominating the field?

Does anyone still play the normal specs now?

Is critical damage / chance (zerker) still the only way to play warrior effectively?

How is Warrior’s balance now? Underpowered? Overpowered?

hambow is still consider viable, just not great….
