Mini Tequatl!

If it is sellable it will be 1000 gold. You will have to do teq 100000 times to get a .001 chance of getting it. Save your gold!

Gamblers Fallacy, you could do Tequatl 10000000000 times, doesnt mean your chance is getting any better, the drop rate is individual…..

yes and no, yeah your chances of getting it don’t increase, but it is very unlikely that you wouldn’t get it after a while.

IE: if you flip a coin your chance of not getting tails once in a row is 50%, twice in a row is 25%, three times in a row is 12.5%, ect. however your chance of getting either tails or heads individually is always 50%.

so yeah, his chances of getting it don’t improve, but it is statistically unlikely he won’t after that many tries.

… Google Gambler’s fallacy, you a few nice examples of how it works (the chance of you not getting x out of x or y doesnt double each time a luck-based choice is made).

Next time, before telling somebody to look for something on wikipedia check that what you’re saying is relevant. People nowadays are using Gambler’s fallacy in case where it is not relevant, like here.
What he said is perfectly correct, if you look at it beforehand my chances to get 3 heads in a row is exactly 1 out of 8 but if I’ve ALREADY got two heads then my chances to get a third is still 50% (assuming the coin isn’t fake).
That’s a common misconception about conditional probabilities.

I agree. And the display doesn’t show up according to your rank but according to your achievement. I’m rank 30 but I don’t have the Avenger title, a wolf icon should show up in the char selection screen but it is a dolyak that show up.
Not a gamebreaking issue, but still an annoyance.

Queen's Gauntlet is breaking the economy

You guys keep insisting on the Gauntlet breaking the economy, which is false.
The Pavilion is clearly more harmful in terms of inflation.

Please, try to think about what you’re writting beforehand. The pavilion main rewards are a lot of T5/T6 golds and exotics which leads to an increasing amount of supply of said items. With more and more of those coming on the TP, the prices are expected to drop and not to rise, so no inflation here.
On the other hand, the gauntlet farming is similar to old CoF in the way it rewards player with raw gold, which means people are generally more wealthy and can buy in mass → generate inflation.

Get your facts straight next time, please.

Im really not sure whether its cool enough for a huge price rise once it would be unobtainable… What do ya think?

Considering the desert rose is a drop from Southsun Survival and IF Gnashblade wins Southsun Survival remains in place(altho on a rotation) it would still be obtainable.

However if Kiel wins then it might climb abit, but don’t expect it to happen overnight.

Southsun survival will be in the rotation whether or not Evon wins the vote. We don’t know if the rose will still be obtainable after the end of this event though.

It seems like they intended to have a canthan district in early stages of the game but somehow changed their mind at some point and erased it, creating the great collapse in the process.
They (tried) to delete every mention in the lore of the game of this district and made instead an art district which is the one supposed to have been destroyed in the collapse.

However, they somehow forgot some mention of the original canthan district and that’s why there’s still some NPCs mentioning it.
I think these mentions must be seen as oversights from dev side and should not be taken as lore.

Anything not officially released shouldn’t be taken as actual lore.

Btw where are these NPCs that mention the unfinished/unreleased Canthan District?

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Suspicious_Activity

There are Canthan’s still in Kryta. All my human characters are Canthan in my lore choice. So sorry mate, you can deny it all you want, but you just admitted that Cantha existed pre-release.

I never denied that the Cantha District existed pre-released, but it NEVER EVER existed in lore after release, which is the actual factual lore of the game.

As I said in my previous post, technically it exists in game (as Smooth Penguin showed in his link).
The fact is, ArenaNet obviously doesn’t want us to take what they probably consider as oversights as lore. But as long as they don’t remove it, we kind of have different versions of the same thing in the game (kind of similar of what exactly happened during the Great Collapse, some say it was a sudden event and some say it had been forecast a while before by the authorities. Same issue with the casualties, some say they have been able to evacuate everyone and other sources say there have been deads…).

Are there any other “oversights” in the game? Because in that link we get:

Valenze: He was born and raised in the Canthan areas of Divinity’s Reach. He worked in the gladitorial arena until he was injured.

Canthan areas doesn’t mean a whole Canthan District. I’m just curious where the other npc conversations are.

Last time I checked, DR didn’t have any Canthan Areas…
And we do have acces to the whole city quarters (except the part that collapsed , obviously)

If you want to duel in order to know who is the best/ more skilled/ whatever then you have the custom arena.
If you don’t want to use them because you won’t be able to use your food/ascended gear/etc.. then you aren’t looking after a display of skill but simply want to show up your gear : it won’t be a fair duel, deal with it.

If you simply want to try your PvE build against foes then use it on LA dummies/ Orr mobs / whatever. You don’t need a whole new concept for that.

Ok I see where your point is. However in order to be able to answer this particular issue, one would need to know exactly what would be the state of a particle standing at the very edge of the gate.
Because we don’t know for sure what kind of force would be applied to it : you cannot treat the gate like a solid wall because particles can go through but don’t know what forces the particles located on the other side of the gate will apply on this particle.
In order to answer this, we should know what kind of “resistance” a particle feels when going through the doors and if it could make up the different pressures of the two places.
If this resistance were high enough then the fact the air could cross it wouldn’t matter because its kinetic state wouldn’t pushing it to cross the gate beforehand. However it doesn’t have anything to do with the two places not being geographically related because if the gate were a thin wall without any resistance then we’d see a flow between the two places anyway.

I just want to know what absurd mathematical algorithm makes it possible for a person to get 4 skins and another no one…

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gambler%27s_fallacy
The absurdity here is to think that because you played more you had more chances to get the skin. The reality is that somebody could get the skin playing only one game while another player could play 1000 games without ever getting it.

This is wrong. I must admit it doesn’t happen frequently that the gambler’s fallacy is quoted wrongly but you just did it.
Playing 80 games DOES give you a better chance to get a rose than playing 20 games. Where the gambler fallacy would be taken into account is once you have played this game (the 80 or the 20) you have exactly the same chance to gain a rose and people usually wrongly assume they have more chances if they have played 80 than if they have played 20 games.
But, it wasn’t the point you made because if you look at it from an external point of view you still have better chance to get a skin if you play a lot of games than if you play only one.

@Mad Queen Malafide, there are some holes in your explanations, especially with the Glasses of water, but I dont have the time to get to it right now. I’ll get to them a little later

Edit; Typos

I’d love to hear it. It’s all theoretical of course, and we’re speculating on something that is clearly fantasy. But it’s interesting to see how this could work (or not work).

Basically, the holes he/she is talking about in your argumentations can all sum up in the fact you’ve a misunderstanding of what exactly pressure is ( the kinetic theory to be more accurate).
Because of the random motion of the particles the air is made of, some WILL step through the asura gate. And, because the pressure in Hoelbrak is lower than the one in LA due to the higher elevation of the Shiverspeaks, the particles will see their access through the gate eased compared to every other direction thus implying a flow of air particles through the gate until the two pressures get equalized (which would take forever given the size of the world and the diameter of the gate).

So, to sum it up, if there’s a membrane you can step through, there’s no reason every other particles can’t (and in fact as pointed out by previous posts we know they do : your eardrums would blow up if no air traveled with you through the gate). So, if the membrane can’t prevent the particles from your body to step through, air should be able to go through as well inducing the effects described above.

ur not supposed to win if you killed 3 people, this is survival not deathmatch, change your thinking.

that being said the ghosts are way too powerful, its not the karka its the call from beyond trap its damage is way too high its too cheap and too easy to hit people

as for the akitteng ration users….it should be possible to trap someone who is standing still,

that should take care of all your complaints….if only anet would hurry up and get on it

Nop that wouldn’t solve anything. When I want to win instead of getting a lot of points, I use the standard technic you described : I hoard rations then camp in a remote section of the island waiting for people to starve.
Allowing ghost to trap me while I stand still won’t help stopping this kind of behavior because :

1) They still need to find me, which is pretty hard given the size of the map and all the possible hiding places.
2) Because you don’t scavenge anything and you’re far from any source of revenge mote, the ghost (if they are ever able to find you) won’t do you any harm without
motes.
3) People could hide in water where ghost can’t use their traps because they are ground targeted. Only ever setting foot on land to use a ration.

sounds to me like you dont want this change because you dont want them to counter you

1- they can easily find you it even starts telling people where you are on the minmap after a while and many people will follow you in ghost form before you get all of your rations

2- they should have motes before that, and if your standing still the ghosts should be able to hit you even if your standing still (another major change that is needed)

3- sitting in water means you have to come up sometimes for a ration and the ghosts can trap the shore in anticipation of this, very easy

1) it’s not that easy to find people hoarding rations because they tend to hide in very remote and/or hard to reach (recquiring jumps) places in the west of the map (the caves, on top of the rocks towering the canal, the clay huts, the western island, the skipping tone jumping puzzle etc…).
It will often recquire great dedication from the ghost to reach such remote places then find the camper before it’s too late.
People doing this kind of strategy will rush rations as soon as possible and will be out of the eastern area shortly before the 12 minutes mark meaning there won’t be any ghost following them because of the grace period. After the grace periode is over, well they will be hiding so they won’t kill anyone = no ghost.

2) The only way it is possible is a ghost rush as soon as he’s dead to a camp loaded with revenge motes, hoard at least 14 of them so he can secure his kill (implying there isn’t any other ghost in the area so he won’t fight for the motes) then IGNORE all the other survivors he’ll necessarily cross way with to head west where he’ll spend half the game looking for the camper. He might find him but you have to agree this whole scenario is highly unlikely. The standard ghost will simply haunt the one who killed him then all survivors who are nearby.

3) Agreed, water won’t do any goods to campers.

This can be solo with ranger easiely. Just use longbow(1500 range) and shorbow stay near the mortar and range the runner and break aggro by running to the back.

Start with shortbow Concussion Shot >Crippling Shot >Poison Volley. Switch to longbow knock plunderer back with Point Blank Shot and finish with Rapid Fire and if you have problem with aggro use Hunter’s Shot for the stealth

The difficulty scale with more players so solo seems to be the best way of getting this done.

I did this on my ranger as well. Used Longbow and Greatsword. For my skills i only really needed Muddy Terrain. Point blank with longbow, swap to GS and immobilize, muddy terrain, and by the time i finish all that, point blank is back up. You could go the extra mile and use a pet CC like wolf fear or spider immobile.

As a ranger it is ridiculously easy, you don’t even need to move to do it. Grab a longbow with the Eagle Eye for an increased range (1500 auto-attack and 1800 if you press the keys), put your pet on passive mode, get a stone spirit and climb the rocks in front of the mortar.
Then, from now on you don’t even have to move. You can reach both plunderers by standing on this spot and more often than enough a single rapid fire (with maybe 1 or 2 AA if your RF didn’t do many crits) is enough to shut them down. Because you don’t move, normally you won’t aggro any mobs, however sometimes they still come for you then use your stealth and watch them walk away (or run into the water).

It is too hard to earn gold - A serious post

Minos.3450

Seriously ?

I won’t make any remark about CoF p1 lasting 30 minutes because the previous post already did it, but seriously I don’t see how you could get only a hundred or so gold in seven months.
I’m not a hardcore player (I have ~800 hours played sinced release), I don’t play the TP, I don’t farm CoF : I just play the game normally, doing what I feel like to do whenever I feel like to without considering too much the reward. But, honestly, since release I guess I’ve earned already a couple thousand gold (without even being extremly lucky on drops : no precursor).
Gold is really easy to come by, everything you do rewards you with gold. Try to sell everything you get on the TP but do it smartly (don’t hoard it if you don’t need it but don’t sell it immediatly if it is likely to increase in price, don’t sell on demand), salvage rares with the appropriate tools to get ectos (and you get TONS of rares in this game : fractals, dungeons, boss chests…)
With the recent acheivement chests, it’s even easier to get gold: they just hand it to you for whatever you have done so far.

No, seriously I don’t think gold is hard to get. By playing the game normally and simply being smart with what you buy/sell, you can be rich really easily in this game.

Southsun Survival: Friend Friendly?

in Cutthroat Politics

Posted by: Minos.3450

Minos.3450

If one day they kitten guild halls, they could give players the possibility to join an instanced version of the mini game reserved to guild members. Would be so fun to do Crab Toss or Southsun Survival with only guild members and hear them rage on vent ^^.

Including a way to join standart mini games with friends would deeply imbalance things because people would team-up in solo games like Southsun Survival, Crab Toss or Sanctum Sprint resulting in great frustration from “standard” players.
We can already see this presently : I ran into a couple of players from the same guild ganking players together in survival and making the game lasting really long cause they didn’t kill each other, it wasn’t exactly fun. So if they ever had a way to join mini games with friends it should be restricted in some ways to prevent this kind of abuses (that’s why I talked about guild hall based mini games which could solve this issue nicely provided you have enough guild members to make it fun^^).

Survival mini game is horrible

in Cutthroat Politics

Posted by: Minos.3450

Minos.3450

Yeah, this could be such a beautiful mini-game, but it has 2 major problems:

  1. The dead shouldn’t have any impact in the game. They’re dead. They lost. Not only can they affect the game (in a way the living players can’t counter in any way), but they’re often more dangerous than the living players, which is stupid…
  2. Hunger is too strong. I know the objective is to avoid “camping”, but you gotta embrace the slower pace of a game such as this. I’m not suggesting removing it entirely, it’s a necessary mechanic, but as is hunger ends up having too big an impact, detracting from the strategic nature of the game.

Fix those 2 and this could potentially become a really amazing mini-game.

I agree with you on Deads’ power, they have a too significant impact on the game through the trap and the karka spawn. While I’m not fond of getting rid of Deads impact totally because the game would become boring fast once dead as a result, I’d limit their impact to a mere annoyance or impediment rather than the current real threat. Another solution would be to get rid of them completely, give points depending of the time they have survived then directly give them the reward so they can find another game about to start.

About the hunger mechanism, I still feel it is necessary to prevent people from simply staying afk on a defendable area until the game is over.
The current system isn’t exactly perfect because it favors people rushing rations at the start (because passifloras don’t respawn) but it’s still better than the initial low hunger we had at the start.

I still think it is overall an amazing mini game and grats to Anet for that

Actually, waypointing becomes cheaper with higher levels.

35 copper for a low level character whose total capital is under one gold is a lot of money. 1.65 silver for a high level character who owns 200 gold to their name is not a lot of money.

However, this only applies to your first character.

Any alt you create later will still only pay 35 copper (or whatever it is), but you already have your 200 gold (or whatever…) in the bank, which makes waypointing (and repairing) really, really super cheap for alts.

So in essence, waypointing and repairing gets relatively cheaper with levelling, and insanely much cheaper with any further character you create.

That’s why reducing WP costs is irrelevant and why you MUST vote Evon Pixel !

@ Kim Possible : while I agree with your statement regarding OP’s situation, I don’t agree with this concept of “sell everything you get as soon as you get it and don’t hoard it” as a whole.
Because, while it’s good to keep a fair amount of cash in case of emergency and to jump on opportunities when they show up, hoarding money you don’t use won’t do you any good in this game. Why?
Because there’s no saving accounts in GW2 so far which means that each and every penny you store in your bank will lose of its value over time because of the inflation.
Even if T6 mats (I mention them because it is the main topic of your post) aren’t the best mean to keep your money up with the inflation, it’s still better than letting it rot in your storage (checking sites like spidy will show you they follow a slow but steady increase in prices as long as there’s no new farm, which is btw why it’s not the best way to invest money).
Of course if you plan to play the TP, then yes you’re right : better sell it all and invest in more profitable stuff. But for the average players, hoarding those is still better than hoarding money.

Story-wise, I’d vote for Ellen Kiel (and that’s what I’m gonna do, probably).
Bonus-wise, I’m indifferent. I neither need cheaper waypointing nor BL keys.
Fractal-wise, I’m more interested in the Reactor, so again, Ellen Kiel.

Seems like a done deal, right?

But then my boyfriend pointed out something this morning that I hadn’t considered. The Abaddon fractal might come with new models/textures while the Thaumanova story wouldn’t require them. But I would like to see new models and textures. It’s still speculation, of course.

Anyway, before you lot welcome me to the dark side: I’m still going to vote for Ellen; however, if Gnashblad wins, I’m going to have fun with the new content anyway. And PS: waiting for him to d evil things and eventually removing him from his position will be fun, too.

If you mean new models and textures for the gods themselves, I will be really disappointed.

As WoodenPotatoes (lore guy) pointed out in his video, no mortal can look at the gods without going blind, and that is what made them mysterious. You can’t look at them.

There was only one mortal who could see them and that was Malchor the Sculptor.

So, I’m torn between wanting this fractal or not. Battle with a god sounds fun, but remember that the fractals is a small thing that you repeat over, and over, and over again.

To battle with a god should be special, and not something you do over, and over, and over again that you don’t even want to do the fractal anymore.

This also leaves me wondering if ArenaNet remember things like these, that the gods can’t be seen, and that the fight was over the Crystal Seas, and that makes me wonder how the fractal will be done if you can’t see the gods.

Gods can’t be seen by mortals without them becoming blind, I agree.
However, the Mists are able to recreate the past events ( altered or not) but technically we wouldn’t be physically in presence with the Gods. They would be creations of the Mists and not the Gods themselves which mean our PCs wouldn’t become blind (furthermore because they would be impersonating characters in presence with the Gods/ the god themselves, but they won’t be in presence with them)

But, correct me if I’m wrong, didn’t he take over Elona after GW1?

He was funny in the same twisted way Thorn is funny, which often results in bad endings for the subject of the joke.
Yes, he indeed took over Elona about 60 years after the events of GW1 (I guess we waited our PC to be dead^^) by diverting the Elon river from its original course, thus inducing a famine, which resulted in Vabbi, Kourna and Istan surrendering.

EDIT : Ninjaed by Erruk.
To add to his post, yes the Elon river was indeed diverted into the Desolation rendering it and part of the Crystal Desert fertile.

what would happen when we meet joko again?

in Lore

Yeah he’ll probably be neutral to us as long as we are not a threat for him or his rule.
Joko is a baddie for sure but he’s not totally evil. He’s not into a blind killing spree nor is trying to gain more power for power sake : his only goal has always been to seize and hold possession of Elona. Now that he effectively rules Elona, he hasn’t tried to expand this territory possibly because of the ED awakening but more likely because he doesn’t want to.
So if we ever step foot in Elona, I guess he won’t do us any harm as long as we don’t try to intervene in his ruling.

They’ve already said so; if you watched Colin’s livestream he did say that everything in the Living Story so far (from January, that is) will be brought together, as they were all interconnected somehow. Not to mention the “personal villain” character that’s probably behind it all. That excites me, at least.

They’ve been making those same vague promises for months though, and so far it’s all been political/economic intrigue. They need to either name a dragon, or name a new target zone like Elona, Cantha, etc. Give a goal. That’s what we’re missing from not having an expansion, because you know that would be in the very first press release of any expansion.

Except they won’t. Colin has stated they don’t plan to bring any dragon on the table soon because they leave dragon for expansion type content (wheter it comes as a real expansion or not is still not decided).

Buying Acsended Gear with Laurels..

I’d just hold off buying any MF related ascended items, the rest is fine. They plan to add new types of ascended items, they haven’t talked about adding new ways to get the current ones (and there are already a couple of different ways to acquire them).

Or simply revamp some mobs my reducing their health bar and increasing their toughness so they are more vulnerable to condition damage instead of direct damage.

makes sense. And remove defiant.

Though I agree they should do something to make cc more viable, they simply can’t remove defiant because boss would simply be chain cced to death without any chance to do something.

What if it's a tie?

Given the fact we’ll vote using tokens and they have been announced to be recoverable from various origins, we can expect millions of them to drop over two weeks. Thus reducing the chances of a tie to such a ridiculous percentage that it’s not even worth to mention this possibility.

1.) I used MF gear a lot (in open world but not dungeons, look at my sig)

Honestly, it’s a great move. It makes me less squishy since I can wear my normal DPS/tanky gear. AND it’s account bound. So I can farm with any character I wish.

As for compensation, I don’t know exactly how they’ll remove an item completely from the economy, but I could see them giving us a fixed number of MF consumables. For example, for all rare lvl 80 MF armor, you get 10 MF consumables. For all exotic lvl 80 MF armor, you get 50 MF consumables

2.) I really don’t see why they would prevent current users from utilizing that feature

They could also allow a unique stats switch similar to the one they want to add to legendary weapons but one you can only use once. For example you could turn your MF armor into berzeker, rampager, knight etc… but once you’ve chosen you can’t change it anymore.

Colin has been talking about adding existing weapons to class who can’t use them presently so why not ?

How do you want "The Fall of Abaddon" to be?

in Cutthroat Politics

There are 5 players in a Fractal.

There are 5 Gods opposing Abaddon.

~waits for it to sink in~

I can’t take any credit for this idea though. Konig made this suggestion originally in the Lore forum.

I don’t need to wait for it to sink in because as a gameplay mechanic it has almost zero chance of happening. You can’t have 3 warriors being Dwayna, Lyssa and Melandru for example, or if they are, what will decide who becomes who? It’s going to tick people off because there will be one god that’s subpar to another’s moveset and nobody is going to want to be that god. Also people don’t like forced skillbars.

What happens when there’s only 3 of you? It’s possible you know. Will the other gods be taken over by AI?

Nope, not going to happen.

As for why I assume we are going to fight Abaddon as apposed to fighting for him? Well it’s only a story-wise guess. The fractal would very likely end with the fall of Abaddon, which will in turn suck in the Margonites too. That would mean we’d need to be extracted ‘right’ before that happens, which mean our characters would technically not witness the fall of Abaddon. Also, we already know that Abaddon had a powerful general, Jadoth, who had been hunted by the Forgotten, but only had a minor role in GW1 despite his background. He would make for a good boss fight.

Yep those are very valid arguments against the possibility of impersonating the five gods. Also, I don’t see how they could represent the power of five gods put together (including the god of war !) without making the fractal trivial as hell.

Well, Mai Trin is currently emprisoned in LA, charged with murder of a member of the council. She hasn’t even the slightest chance of ever becoming council member through an election (she wouldn’t even be able to apply for a seat).

Sometimes things like “wish” followed by “it” (for example) will trigger it because the filter ignores the space and other letters.

wish it

So of course, wanting to demo it, it won’t trigger on this case (anymore)… sigh.

Still work with the female homosexual word. For example “Brainkitten okahs” get censored. (Brainless (i) Bookahs)

Might be a bad idea.

The seat would be won by ‘$$LF1M WARRIOR PING GEAR OR KICK$$’.

You have to get the votes where they are. CoF gathers many players (how close they are from brainlessi bots or vegetative state is not the question), so more potential votes for Evon. (intentional typo to avoid the kitten)
Moreover, they are used to Charrs : they see them every single minute they spend in thus dungeon (!) so they won’t be afraid of Evon !
