Un-Soulbinding "Items" + TP Economy

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mochann.5298

Mochann.5298

Getting rid of “Soulbound” is something that makes so much sense to me. But for some reason ANet won’t do it. As far as I can tell, they want to soulbind stuff so as to create an artificial need to grind more. I really can’t figure out any other rationale behind it.

Account bound is fine. Soulbound, is plain ridiculous. Say I made an Ele first and got her to level 80. I buy Exotic trinkets. Later on, I acquire a full set of Ascended trinkets to replace said Exotics, what do I do wtih the Exotics? Instead of passing it on as handme downs to my new Mesmer, I instead am forced to just salvage them, and then spend more gold anew on new Exotic Trinkets.

It’s an artificial time sink to keep you grinding, in other words, to keep you playing. And it’s annoying.

I would so love to see Soulbound go the way of the dodo.

What is the point of being in a guild?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mochann.5298

Mochann.5298

Being in a guild means tout are a slave for the guild master and its leaders who can use guild influence to create guild vaults and drop guild banners.

Only the people at the top really benefit.

Now some gulls are nicer and give out stuff in the vault or call you for guild banners. But generally you should look at guilds as a social tool and a means to give influence to your leaders.

If you aren’t seeing any benefits, you are just being milked for influence.

Elementalist weakest class? Hell no

Mochann.5298

I don’t like swapping life with Mesmer, I just want even bigger damage to compensate for our squishiness. We should be the best damage dealing class – and rightfully so. That said, we are already perhaps the best damage dealing class in the game, although it’s very situational and takes a lot of skill to pull off.

Eles aren’t underpowered per se, just have a really high skill requirement. It’s a class you need to learn in and out and practice like hell with in order to start taking names.

But I still haven’t really figured out the secret in PvP. I’m a monster in PVE and WvW but PVP is still kinda weird. I can win matches but not on my own, a lot depends on how I mesh with my team.

$12.50 Charge for Convenience of Lions Arch

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Mochann.5298

Mochann.5298

It’s definitely a cash grab — but I would like to point out that Lion’s Arch is not exactly convenient. On Mid-range systems the framerate is pretty poor — so sue me I haven’t updated my video card in a while.

Further, the distances between Black Lion TP, Banks and crafting stations is immense, compounded with the lousy framerate, Lion’s Arch is a hassle to do work in.

It’s much easier to do work in the Grove — although that’s missing a Mystic Forge.

In which case you can do your work in WvW Homeland — your Citadel has everything in much closer space than Lion’s Arch, except the Mystic Forge which is a quick port away at your Garri.

Oh, but I forgot, 99% of GW2 players are allergic to PVP/WvW….. so yeah just buy the cash grab ship pass. It’s awesome, seriously.

It does depend on resistance, but WvW is generally a very fast way of levelling.

EotM map feels like PvE w/ a little WvW

Seems to be people are still getting their feet wet in EOTM.

Unlike in the EBs and BLs where everyone knows the maps inside out and just get to the capping and fighting with no further fanfare, in EOTM I am still just walking around exploring and wondering at the details of the map. Often I’m not interested in fighting, sometimes I’m just looking around, even if there are enemies right in front of me.

Once I get more used to the map I will probably be able to start focusing on killing stuff again.

And that said, I actual enjoy hearing Marjory and Kasmeer do their thing, it’s amusing for a quick laugh. Sorry, I’m one of those shallow male nerds easily amused by stupid lesbian antics.

A romance thing with the player though just sounds funny, because it would make Kasmeer (or whoever the romance object is) the biggest kitten in the world, because she’d be instanced kitten to every single player in the game when you think about it.

That’s just the weakness of going with instances and story telling in these MMOs. It just doesn’t work.

Forced into even more WvW that I despise

I love PVErs, they’re so cute in how scared they are of coming face to face with competition.

I’m sorry. What competition is that? WvW is no different than champ trains. It all comes down to it being mindless zerging. I’ve been in the EotM and all I’ve seen is groups conquering objectives, avoiding each other, losing the objectives (on purpose!) then reconquering them, all along just by fighting the AI, for the loots.

Exactly. And yet, for some reason, PVErs are allergic to WvW like the plague. It’s like they’ll have a heart attack the moment they see a player with red text over their heads.

Some people just don’t want to do PvP. That shouldn’t be forced upon them nor should they be looked at differently because of this.

What’s so PVP about it? As pointed by FrozenStar, it’s just zerging like a champ train. I will never understand these PVErs. I’m not looking down on them though for that. I look down on them for all the whining they are doing over this small change.

Most games have PvP sections or servers dedicated to that function. Thus making people who don’t enjoy that aspect of a game to never have to do it. ANET is forcing it upon people though with putting a Living Story aspect in there.

If you never gathered ever in the game and they forced that upon you, would you have a legitimate reason to be upset?

Yeah. I hate gathering. Yet I’m forced to do it, because otherwise I’m not gonna get enough mats for gold and stuff. I would have a harder time doing my dailies. Shame on ANet for forcing me to do it.

But you know what? I suck it up and JUST DO IT. Because if I want to achieve my goals, I need to.

Do you see me complaining on the forums about the need to Gather? Of course not.
And it’s not just that. If you think Gathering is such a small assinine thing, there are tons of other stuff I don’t enjoy at all in this game but I’m “forced” to because I want my legendary. Let’s start with stupid kitten Map Completion. Reknown Hearts. UGH!!! I hate doing that. But I’m “forced” to do it, right? Do you see me QQing in the forums that they take out Reknown Hearts? Of course not.

Because then I’d look as stupid as the guy who started this thread.

I’m just saying I see where PVE only players come from in that aspect.

Personally, I like pvp mixed in with my PVE experience.

My bad if it came out that I was lumping you in on the “other side” of the argument.
But anyhow, if you can see the PVE side of it, surely you can also see the other side? I’m not a WVW-only person by any stretch, I used to be a PVE-only person but then I got to the point where I needed that gift of battle, so I just dove into WvW, got my 500 badges in like 4 days, and a good number of ranks on top of that. It was easy as hell.

So I really just laugh at the people who are still allergic to WvW for some reason. I can’t understand this “I’m a PVE only I don’t want to touch PVP with a ten foot pole!” mentality. It’s ridiculously stupid in my eyes.

Mochann.5298

And you forgot, you then need to waste laurels you need for ascended gear for levels instead. It’s not as easy as you people try to make it out so you can stop with the “buy levels” garbage, we have heard it dozens of times already and just because you keep repeating it does not make it any better.

I haven’t forgotten anything. Sorry that your Gift of Battle isn’t free anymore because you happened to do some PvE Achievements. You don’t have to do WvW, so you have nothing to complain about. If you want to save on Laurels, then go to WvW. The point is you have options, and have absolutely nothing valid to complain about.

However, ask a WvW’er what they need to do to get a Legendary. They have to go to Dungeons, and they would definitely spend Laurels as a substitute if they were given that choice. Either go to WvW or spend your Laurels. It’s ridiculous that the Gift of Battle was essentially free due to the Achievement chests.

I have no need of a gift of battle since I will not be getting any legendries. ugliest skins in the game and the particle effects are just annoying.
If I really want one, it’s not an issue as I can get one or many at any time. Ranks? not an issue. Badges of Honor? not an issue. You assume that I don’t like the change because I want a gift of battle “for free”. The truth is I do not want any, have no use for any and could get one any time if I ever did change my mind. My main complaint is they have allowed players to get their legendries without this requirement. If they are going to change it, then it needs to be retroactive. You can’t change the rules mid stream and create 3 different classes of players. If they are going to make rank 30 a requirement, it should be a requirement to equip a legendary weapon. Many of you keep sayeing “you have to play all aspects of the game”, fine! no problem with that, but it needs to apply to EVERYONE, not just a few. Buy it off the TP? sure, but you can’t equip it until your rank 30. Crafted it since the AP chests gave you all the Badges of Honor you need so never played WvW, same thing, get to rank 30 before you can equip it again. Rules and requirements need to apply to ALL players or none.

That logic is broken.

How about the PrecursorCrafting that they will be introducing? Should they retroactively delete all Legendaries because it’s unfair that Precursor Crafting is going to be introduced, creating three classes of players (or whatever you were trying to get at with that)?

Things happen. Games Evolve. Change is something you can’t stop. There’s no need to get anal about the past. I mean, there are far bigger headaches than this. Imagine, I am only now doing legendary crafting and my precursor costs 700 gold. A year ago it only cost like 50 gold. That really kittenes me off, but I just suck it up and get on with my life. If ANet chooses to finally introduce Precursor Crafting, I’m not gonna reject it because it makes things “unfair” for the earlier people.

You can be anal about this level 30 requirement, but there’s really no need to. Stickler for principle and all that, eh?

Besides, all this is moot because ANet already repealed it.

Anet, why dont you split PvE and WvW?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mochann.5298

Mochann.5298

WvW is PvPvE. Meaning that is has both environmental as well as human elements that a player has to face. Technically this does make it different than plain pve or plain pvp, as it is a combination of the two.

I do agree in separating them, though I don’t necessarily agree that they would require a separation of skills. At least not as distinctly as straight pvp sometimes does, since the pve element does still exist.

I also agree that the normal wvw dailies should be separated out from the standard ‘dailies’ list. Considering they broke the pvp dailies into their own catagory, it would be logical to follow the same pattern with wvw. They are each their own mode, with their own followings.

Edit: Besides, a couple of extra laurels would be a nice thing….

You’d still be limited to one laurel a day, just like how it is today with PVP and PVE dailies. You can’t do your PVP dailies for 1 laurel, then do your PVE for another.

I’m just going to say this. I think it’s too late for this game to become a good “game” as far as collecting and crafting by playing the GAME (not the market). They make too much money from it, they won’t risk hurting the community’s precious economy, and they release big-change patches so rarely… I hate to say it, but honestly, I feel like the game has a foot in the grave and is stepping on a rock with the other.

The game’s economy is already shot, the inflation on items is ridiculous — I hear once upon a time you could get a Dusk for like 60 gold. Today it goes for 700+gp. That’s what you call broken.

Funny thing is, ANet said like a year ago that this is a ridiculous situation, and that they are going to do something about it, but they still haven’t.

I fear it’s as others such as you have already voiced out: Anet’s livelihood depends on gem sales, and since gems can be used to buy gold, they don’t want to make any big changes or fixes in the gold economy, because right now people are still buying gems to buy gold.

That saddens me a little inside, but what can I do? So I just keep sloughing away at dungeon grinds to make that 700 gold.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Mochann.5298

If you don’t do WvW and PVE, you should’t give suggestions on how to improve both.
That said, there already is a specific set of Dailies for WvW, so there’s nothing to do there.

As for different traits and skills, this actually would probably make quite a few people happy, since some people have different builds for WvW and PVE, and hate having to retrait each time they jump from one to the other.

Frankly though, I personally think that all three main game modes — PVE, WvW and PVP — should have the same traits, skills and equipment. I hate how the PVP balance is fragmented from PVE. They should be the same for me. I also would like to wear my PVP gear in WVW or PVE. Shame I can’t.

It’s bad game design IMO if your game in one mode is broken with the exact same mechanics in another game mode. If the game is well-designed, it should have the same balance no matter which game mode it’s in.

BTW — I would like to note that if I play WvW, all I need to do is play normally for about an hour or two and my dailies are usually magically done by then. I don’t even have to pay attention to doing them; they get done by themselves. Playing WVW is like the easiest way to do your dailies.

Usually it’s something like this:

  • 10 Daily Invader Kills – done by killing players
  • Daily Event Completion – done by capping anything
  • Daily Kills – done by killing things
  • Daily Gathering – I always break off to mine that Platinum Ore
  • Champion Killer – lvoe this, so easy
  • Daily Leveller – happens automatically without thinking after 2-3 caps of towers, keeps or camps
  • World Ranker – happens after about 30 minutes of play automatically

Regardless of what mix and match of dailies are present, I usually have 5 of them covered with the above.

I don’t give a flying kitten.

The story telling in this game is mostly an afterthought, it’s not integrated into the structure of the game itself. Here is how I feel the story in this game goes:

I’m watching a movie. Ten minutes in, a word prompt flashes on screen: please turn to page twelve of your companion book to see how this conversation between the hero and his friends goes! We will pause for 10 minutes to let you do this before we resume."

That’s how the story portions of GW2 feels to me. It’s so far removed from the core experience of what I do for 99% of the time I play this game that I don’t even care about it.

This is especially true of the Living Story portions of the game. Putting me in a room with Marjory, Kasmeer and a hologram of an Asura to go over Thirteen text box triggers in order to “explain” all the crap that’s been going on for the past year is so mind numbingly stupid and ineffective at story telling that it feels like a bandaid being applied to a bullet wound.

RNG and Grind in GW2 is not that bad

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mochann.5298

Mochann.5298

They’re note necessary evils, you just THINK they are because you haven’t seen better.

There are tons of games that I play over and over and over because they’re just, you know, FUN. I still play 10, 20 year old games today like Final Fantasy Tactics, SWAT4, Master of Orion, because the gameplay is just so awesome that I keep coming back for more. Nobody released a new expansion for these games, I just play ‘em again because its’ fun. I also still play more recent games over and over, things like Monster Hunter or say Dungeons of Dredmor, no new content has been released really in a long time except some unofficial mods, but I keep coming back for more.

Maybe if MMO developers actually focused on making fun game mechanics instead of shiny things, bad Living World stories, and endless grinds, people would keep playing because it’s fun, and not because they’re hamsters endlessly running in a hamster wheel.

You have cited all NON-MMO examples.

Question; do you play Final Fantasy Tactics every day? Or do you set it down for a while after you complete all the content? I suspect you do the latter, like a rational person.

Because see… an MMO’s lifeblood is concurrency numbers. It’s getting people to log in every single day if they can. I know Arena.net promised GW2 was a game you could set aside for a while and pick back up… but they don’t REALLY want you doing that. They want you playing their game every single day.

But NO MMO can provide you new content every single day. It’s not possible. They need to get you replaying content over and over. The simplest, and most effective, way to do that is to NOT give you what you want right away.

That’s how it is in the MMO world.

But it doesn’t HAVE to be that way. Take FPS for example. Once upon a time I was playing Counterstrike 4-8 hours every day. There was no grind, I just loved playing. Today the same thing happens with Battlefield 4.

You don’t NEED a grind to get people coming back. Even if I got all the items/upgrades I wanted, I’d still be playing. This already happens to an extent in GW2 — I keep coming back to WvW everyday to play it because it’s fun! There’s no grind involved. I just play because it’s fun!

ANet needs to focus on these kinds of game modes and make them fun.
Part of the problem is the player base themselves — there are people who won’t touch WvW or PVP with a ten foot pole.

Too bad ANet isn’t having much success converting these PVErs…. so they have to do the grind thing and the Living World thing to keep them happy. That’s a bit sad. It’s how MMORPGs are, comes with the territory in this genre. I wish MMORPGs would break from this mode already. GW2 was supposed to be the game to break this mold. It made a good effort but hasn’t really broken free of the curse.

Nerfing Berserker Gear Would Be A Mistake

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mochann.5298

Mochann.5298

Been saying this over and over like a broken record. Huge mistake by Anet, and it won’t fix anything at all.

They want to fix the berserker meta, they do this:

  • stop the game from being a grind. The reason people go zerk is to do speed runs. Why do people do dungneon speed runs? Because we need to make tons of gold. Why do we need tons of gold? Because mats and other things are expensive. Precursors can cost upwards of 800 gold, T6 mats for Gift of Might cost upwards of 400 Gold, ascended mats cost 300 gold, etc.

Don’t want zerk? Stop forcing us to grind for months. Let us get our weapons and armor withoutneeding to grind like hamsters for it.

Sadly the game design mechanics (grinding, active defenses, and lack of a trinity in the core design) make zerker the go-to set if you’re trying to be efficient. That will never change until these problems are addressed, and “zerker doing too much damage” is not a problem, it’s a feature of the set, that’s why it’s called zerker and not “pillow puncher.”

Dunno how anyone can claim ANet isn’t giving fractals attention when they released a massive update to it just a couple of months back.

RNG and Grind in GW2 is not that bad

RNG and grind are two of those necessary evils in MMO games… they’re an easy way to make content repeatable, and content in an MMO pretty much has to be repeatable because there is no way a company can make content as fast as players can consume it.

I think players know that and understand that; the issue tends to be the degree and scale of RNG and grind.

Any serious end game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Seriously, I never came across this term “endgame” before in any game I played until Diablo III. Which is funny, because I played Diablo II to death and I never heard this term mentioned.

Apparently it’s something that sprang out of WoW, which I never played, and is an expected “feature” of any MMORPG today.

And I say to that: kitten.

Just keep playing the game as always. It’s fun to play, right? That’s why you keep playing.

It’s like Chess. You keep playing chess over and over because it’s fun, right? There is no “endgame” outside of the literal endgame at the end of each game. If you won your school varsity tournament, do now consider it “over” and look for an “endgame” as if you have “graduated” from playing varsity tournaments?

Or is it like a relationship between a boy and a girl, you date, you kiss, you have have sex, get married, then now you’re looking forward to the “endgame?” Nay, it started from love when you were in courtship, you still love after marriage, right? Or no? Then yeah maybe it’s because there was no love and you’re looking for some “endgame.” When you’re supposed to be fine just loving each other.

Same with GW2. You’re supposed to be enjoying the game, right? If you enjoy it, that should be reason enough to keep playing whatever you’ve been playing all along, “endgames” are not needed.

Of course! And remove evades and stealth from Thieves, so they actually need to play properly! Also, don’t forget to remove conditions from Necromancers… as it is now, they only need to faceroll to win any fight! And while you’re at it… Guardians spam too much Aegis, and all that healing! Such a skill-less class. And oh of course, Rangers! They insta-kill you from 1500 units away all the time while their pets make them essentially immortal if you should ever happen to get a hit on them! Oh and…

tl;dr: You obviously have no idea what you’re talking about.

You know what I noticed? I noticed Eles didn’t make your list. Gee, I wonder why.

Rank 30 WvW Required for Gift of Battle Grind

One more thing … for PVErs who are REALLY hardup for WXP, here’s what you can do:

Get some buddies (or LFG in map chat) to kill the Arboreal Spirit or the Grub. That’s a fat 600 points of WXP, more than a tower cap and almost as much as a keep. Easy way to get WXP, and it’s a very PVE thing to do.

You can also smash the Froggies, the Ogres or the Dredge. Another very PVE thing to do and nets you 200 poitns for the event plus whatever incidentals you get for killing the stuff.

And you can do this while Outnumbered for free bonus xp!!!

But like I said… I find this change unnecessary. It doesn’t really do anything for anyone, it’s just something for Anet so that people will be forced to play WvW.

I can agree with that concept though, because again Legendaries were designed for people to have only once they’ve shown some mastery of all the game modes outside of PVP. If you can’t hack it, you don’t deserve a legendary.

Look at me, I still haven’t made about 1,600 gold, so I still don’t deserve a Legendary. Woe is me.

Stuff like this only serves to alienate more people and I see it as another bad move considering the quarterly numbers keep dropping.

Where do you see these quarterly numbers?

Anyway, I find this change mostly unnecessary. It’s no big deal. I honestly don’t care if it’s there or not. Getting to rank 30 is easy and something you will hit naturally if you just map out WvW. Anyone who isn’t cheating the system somehow will hit rank 30 naturally.

The change is easy, easy, easy to do. Hitting rank 30 is practically effortless as long as your playing WvW.

If you hate WvW, tough luck. You don’t deserve a Legendary if you can’t even play to a minimum acceptable level in WvW.

As a solo roamer spending more than 1.000 hours in WvW i just hit rank 30 2 weeks ago. I get it if you zerg mindlessly following commanders you can rank up fast. Some of us don’t want to be forced into running with 50+ players to blast finisher -> auto attack the other 50+ players.

Well guess i’ll be buying my next legendary. Please a-net make us zerg more, its not like WvW is 1 big blob already.

I find that hard to believe. What exactly were you doing for those 1000 hours? Getting instagibbed by anyone you came across? You get WvW XP for capping camps, sentries, killing guards and mercs, and killing players. These are the activities a Roamer typically does. Especially the last one.

If you weren’t able to achieve enough WvW XP to hit rank 30 well before your 1000 hours, then you were doing something really, really wrong.

Either you’re badly exaggerating, lying, or incompetent.

Already mapped out WvW, no wvw ranks because they didn’t exist when I was forced to run around that gawdawful flash gank mob paradise.

Hitting rank 30 is a time gate for PvE and WvW players, but it is not a equal time gate it part of the problem.

Personally, I’d love to exclude you out of content just because you don’t like participating in a game mode as well.

“Oh, waypoints? You don’t deserve them unless you are a respectable PvE’er.” – This is how silly your claim is.

Comparing a Legendary to a Waypoint is silly.

RNG and Grind in GW2 is not that bad

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Mochann.5298

Why are you comparing the grind to just other MMORPGs?

Why not compare it to the grind in a JRPG, or some other kind of game? It’s not necessarily MMO. Grind is grind. YOu can grind in Farmville, you can grind in FF7, you can grind in Fruit Ninja.

Fact is, I know grind when I see one. When I say GW2 is grindy, it’s because I am doing Repetitive Actions to amass a certain resource. That’s all grindy means.

And your argument is a logical fallacy, it’s the “Two Wrongs Make a Right” fallacy. Sadly, two wrongs are still “wrong,” and GW2 beign grindy is still “wrong.”

Especially since ANet specifically stated that “they don’t make grindy games.”

The Ascended/Legendary grind is a sack of kitten. Very poorly designed. Especially for a game that is not supposed to be grindy. GW2 was supposed to “save the MMORPG genre” by being different and breaking from the conventions that had become accepted as the norm for this genre. It didn’t break away far enough; it’s still stuck in the grind rut.

It’s not as kittenome other games, but it’s still a grind and an annoying, boring one.

To the people arguing about the “rewards” vs “fun”, nobody said they play the game just for the legendary. Those are the people who “rage quit” from playing because they can’t get their precursor. What I saw some people saying here is that people are “turned off” from the grind because it’s not fun, and thus just play normally “for fun.”

I have been wanting to make a legendary for two months now. I have earned about 300 gold towards making one. I still need to make about 1,200 for the rest of the stuff (mostly for the T6 mats and Precursor)

I got so sick of grinding for gold that I’m just chilling now in WvW and PvP, because it’s freakin’ boring grinding for gold. I still hope some day I will have that 1,200 gold I need.

Anet really needs to fix the broken Precursor market, it’s ridiculous.

Stop thinking it as ‘grinding’. find a way to make gold that u have fun with. for instance I run dungeons (only the ones I like though) for an easy 15-20g/day and am satisfied with that. haven’t jumped on a single train and dont ever plan on it.

Oh lucky you! Dungeon Runs are the most profitable thing to do in the entire game, so of course you’re happy.

I’ve done everything in this game and I can tell you, Dungeon Running is far more profitable than champ training, unless you are lucky and get that lottery drop of a precursor or whatever rare item.

I hate this RNG lottery, it makes me resentful of people who manage to get a good drop, when I should be happy for them, simply because I’ve spent so much time trying to do the same thing and get nothing. It’s bad vibes.

The ability to reach rank 30 in a ‘matter of hours’ laregely depends on the server you are on and the size of the zerg you can run with.

People can defend the change all they want, but I really don’t see the reason or need for it. Not that it can’t be done or done in a reasonable manner, but the necessity of it is really in question.

I question the need to buy 400 gold worth of T6 mats, or the need to buy a 700 gold precursor. Or throw 1,000 gold into the mystic toilet in the hopes of getting one.

In my opinion, this would actually be a perfect example of a ‘grind’.

I am well over level 30, so I am not affected by this change. Thus my argument is purely for the sake of new players, and to eliminate a change that really adds no value to the game.

Asking players, who may not enjoy WvW, to earn enough Badges of Honor was already seen as a ‘grind’ for such players and was offset by including Badges of Honor as a part of the Achievement Chest Rewards.

Having ‘solved’ this problem, you have now chosen to make WvW once again compulsory in the process of crafting a legendary, which not to mention has not been the case for all those who have recently crafted them, and thus is rather unfair.

I understand that you are trying to urge more players to move to WvW, as this is where players are able to create more interest in the game rather than the developers having to come up with content at a ridiculous pace, and I am not complaining about that, it is one solution.

However, there are plenty of others, such as not completely throwing away dungeons after their patch, and perhaps involving them in a different aspect of the game, as you have done with the new Fractals.

Again, I do not wish to offend anybody, and do not want to create any arguments, I am purely stating my observations of what could be a rather depressing, non-value adding burden to be placed on new players wishing to create their first legendary, which as well already know is a process that has been made much longer given the comparative lack of Karma that we are now able to obtain.

Kind regards,

Edward

Why is it such a big deal? It’s a HELL of a lot harder to get 250 of each Tier 6 mat than it is to get 500 Badges of Honor or Rank 30, and getting a Precursor is even harder than getting 250 of each T6.

We should accept that ANet wants us to experience all that GW2 is to get a Legendary, aside from sPVP/tPVP. The WvW requirements are pretty easy and frankly a cakewalk compared to the other requirements, Gift of Fortune oh my lord what a freakin’ pain. Look at that big hole in my pocket.

It kittenes me off because I only started doing this around August last year and by then inflation drove prices to astronomical levels. Back in 2012 I hear you could buy Dusk for 40 gold. Wow. That’s like chickenfeed today.

It sucks. I hate ANet for nerfing Zerk. Zerk is all I wear.

Anyway I will just QQ until Anet fixes it, because they are definitely doing something stupid here that doesn’t need to be done. They’re only doing this Zerk nerf thing anyway because stupid PVErs are QQing about how LFG groups all want Zerk and kick them if they don’t ping their Zerk gear.

Thing is, Anet screwed themselves with their game design, because they focused too much on damage and not enough on things like healing and support (“There is no Trinity in Guild wars 2” — by ANet)

That automatically ends with a situation where people gravitate towards DPS as the most efficient way to clear PVE. It was inevitable.

They shouldn’t nerf that because of player whining. They should nerf it only to introduce greater build diversity — which isn’t gonna happen because they are doing it the wrong way (nerfing Zerk won’t fix the lack of diversity), unless they fix core design issues people going DPS in PVE isn’t going to change.

As for how it will affect Staff Eles — yeah it’s gonna hurt.

Cooldowns take too long — and yes we Fire Eles like to stay in Fire all the time because that’s the only attunement that has any kind of decent damage. Water sucks at damage, Air is even worse, Earth is too slow and yeah it sucks at damage too.

However, attunement switching is a core mechanic of Eles so I eventually learned to go around, but thing is there are times you want to keep doing DPS, and switching to water isn’t gonna help that goal. Actually scratch that. Most of the time you want to keep doing DPS, and only rarely do you want to do something else.

And it’s true, ThiBash said it: Glass Staff Ele is always hard countered by Stealth Backstab Thief, it sucks but that’s the truth of the matter. I just try to run away when one of them hit me. Assuming I’m still alive — I’m usually 2-shot by those guys.

In Roaming Groups or in small roaming fights, Staff Ele is not very good to use. I have died too many times in those situations.

That’s a whole different ballgame though from ZvZ. Staff Eles really shine in Zerg vs. Zerg battles. I have almost never died in ZvZ until the rest of the frontline has died, and I kill so many people with my meteor showers that I feel “Ultimate Dominator” isn’t such a pipe dream. In ZvZ, people are too busy to really notice an Ele who knows what he is doing and positions himself properly, and since Meteor Shower doesn’t have a red AOE, people often get blindsided by it and it goes into their “red AOE blindspot” so they tend to eat up the nukes like crazy.

And funny, this happens even on battlements when defenders trying to snipe from towers don’t realize they are being rained on. Not as often as it does in full open field ZvZ, but it happens enough that I can’t ever stop chuckling at the fools I nailed on those ACs and battements who got so engrossed sniping they didn’t realize they were already dead. And I admit, I am guilty of this too and have died to opposing Ele Meteos.

You are just plain wrong.

Staff Eles are among the highest damaging characters in the game.
