Why am I still getting blowout matches?

I’m very close to losing hope after 17+ stompings tonight. I’m tired of logging off physically sick. There doesn’t seem to be any plan on the horizon to make pvp fun for non super gamers.

Yeah, I’ve had I don’t know how many losses in a row now, pvp matching is so broken it’s beyond laughable. I think they’ve fired all the developers and turned it over to 5 yr olds

Why am I still getting blowout matches?

Morpeth.5318

It’s a month into the season, MMR is as normalized/leveled out as it will ever be, I’m in high Ruby, why am I still getting over half of my matches winning or losing by more than 300 points?

For that matter, why am I getting soloQ players in my matches that are amber/sapphire, or Legendary? Both of those could not possibly be within any reasonable pip spread (more than 100 pips either way), and it’s highly unlikely either are remotely close to my MMR.

I’ve given up on PvP for now, the matchmaking system is so bad it’s making me HATE gw2, I mean HATE it. I’m just going to avoid pvp even if I don’t complete a daily because of it, it’s that frustrating to me. 10 losses in a row today… I’m used to a 50% win ratio, this is insane.

PvE is still fun, PvP/WvW is a total disaster because of HoT (don’t bother unless you’ve grinded to the elite specs, and even then pvp is all about faceroll certain builds now, no variety, no strategy)

Point being that I’d like to be able to do dailies without having to engage in PvP/WvW, it used to be a viable option, but Anet seems to have jumped on the e-sport train nonsense, and it just isn’t working for all of us.

My entire guild has quit since HoT came out, I’m the last hold out. I wish HoT never happened honestly.

Given the joke that is pvp now (unbalanced, faceroll elites, LESS viable builds, and the recent terrible patch), I’d like to see some of the old dailies back with more pve options. I can’t stand pvp as it stands now, and would like pve options until Anet gets this HoT mess figured out, pun intended.

So I’m a casual, but competent, pvp player, WAS going about 50% win, 50% loss which seems right in unmatched. Now they have this ‘keep the team’ together crap, which essentially means I’m facing pre-mades now and keep finding myself is stupidly uneven matches, that aren’t even close to fun.

Wtf are they doing, pvp was ok, but now since HoT we have ridiculous powercreep, new balance issues, and now premades where there aren’t supposed to be premades.

I just don’t get their logic… do they WANT people to quit?

Ever other game I play that has multiple pvp maps lets me pick which maps I want to queue for, I don’t know why ANET won’t wake up and do this. The voting thing is dumb especially when 9 people vote for a map, and the 10th wins with some map no one wants.

Lots of times people just afk or eff around if it’s a map they don’t like, I’ve even given up from time to time on lame maps (even taken desertion cause I’m so effing annoyed when I get the same lame map 3x in a row) Just let people pick already, it would take minimal time to set that up, just do it already.

PvP vs WvW (gear is god?)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Morpeth.5318

Morpeth.5318

I used to really be into WvW until the map change, though I started jumping back into it since they brought some of the old maps back.

After I took a leave of WvW, I really got into PvP a lot more. Since trying out WvW again, it’s been frustrating — since I’ve noticed I’m not competitive in WvW anymore, the only thing I can think of is I’m terribly outgeared.

Reason I say this is in PvP I hold my old, usually get my share of kills, and in unrated matches probably run a bit >50% wins, which seems about right. When I hit WvW now, it’s almost like insta death now, especially with any caster/cloth classes. The only real difference I can see is gear, since PvP levels the field on gear/stats.

Most of my characters are in exotics, honestly, I just don’t have the time needed to get ascended/legendary. I’m curious for those who WvW a lot, what kind of gear do you have.

Level 80+ without HoT, pointless?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Morpeth.5318

Morpeth.5318

Currently don’t have HoT, might down the road depending — but not atm.

What I’m wondering, is all my chars are 80th, but with the changes Hot brought, is leveling 80s actually meaningless now?

What I mean is, you used to get points to spend — but as far as I can tell now with all the changes — is when I level, I don’t get hero points, I don’t get spirit shards, I can’t see that I get anything — or is there yet another currency/reward that I simply don’t see?

It’s not stopping me from playing, but it seems like there should still be a small carrot dangling for those of us not currently interested/playing HoT. Or is this another of Anet’s way of ‘forcing’ people to upgrade

Thanks.

From everything I’ve read about the choices they’ve made with the expansion (huge grinds added, artificial content/skill barriers, paywalls, removal of ‘play your way’ philosophy), I don’t regret not buying it for 1 second.

Should a non HoT player quit/take a break?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Morpeth.5318

Morpeth.5318

Honest question here. I don’t see myself getting HoT anytime soon, is it time to just quit GW2?

[In case anyone reading cares why — not happy with the price and honestly, what I’ve been reading about content hidden behind what is essentially crazy horizontal progression and massive grinding is a real turn off. The philosophy of ‘playing your way’ seems dead imo]

It seems without HoT, and the way they’ve structured the game now, leveling or doing anything post 80 is pointless for non HoT players. I have 7 80s. I mainly PvP/WvW and get the impression I’m going to be locked out of too many things (abilities, content and rewards) for me to be competitive or continue enjoying it.

Still am fond of the game, but feel like I’d rather put my money towards something else (cough… Fallout 4… cough) right now; and it seems Anet pretty much wants people to buy HoT or quit. At least that’s how it comes across with how they’ve implemented things.

Thoughts? Thanks.

My internet is fine, good speeds and low latency — other online games are fine, it’s definitely something on Anet’s end. I can’t logon most times, when I do, I get dc’d quickly, or the lag is so bad the game is unplayable.

I’ve not bought the expansion (yet, maybe down the road, we’ll see), from what I’ve been reading honestly I think it was a good decision for me. They’re trying not to call it grinding, but if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck…

I tried ESO beta, glad I did, saved me $60 plus $15/mo, . Very little new or interesting in there imo. I’d just rather play Oblivion & Skyrim for free (I own both), or GW2.

ESO feels like a lesser Skyrim / Oblivion, and I can get all the mmo I need out of GW2. There’s zero reasons I see to fork out that kind of money.

There’s really no need for rambling emo posts about the world coming to an end over x or y, or dissertations about the game. There’s lots of games to play, if you aren’t having fun, play something else.

Wrong way round. Grinding means doing things just for the reward. Repeating simply tasks and challenges just to farm materials, or doing a dungeon or boss just for the chest at the end.

It’s called grinding because, psychologically, you’re not getting anything out of the activity itself. The idea of a game is almost predicated on the idea that you’re completing unnecessary tasks simply for the enjoyment of completing unnecessary tasks. Other than the sense of a job well done, what reward do you get for beating your opponent in chess? Or completing Super Mario Brothers?

The ‘grind’ of MMORPGs is why people joke about gaming becoming like a second job. We’re no longer playing for the challenge or the satisfaction of doing something well; we’ve instead been persuaded to attach the same extrinsic value to virtual objects as we do to material property.

Just wait until unscrupulous governments start working this out.

I’m not really sure where you’re getting “wrong way around” from. What do you think I characterize “grinding” as? Back in the day, “grinding” was sitting on a hill killing Tumps for 24 hours to knock off one bubble of one level of experience, and we were happy to do it. These days people run into a field, do a single event, and come to the forums to moan about the terrible grind. The word has lost all meaning. If I said “grind” to you in casual conversation about an MMO, unless you and I were close you would have absolutely no idea what I was talking about.

We apparently have an entire generation of players in this genre who are playing despite the fact they hate every aspect of the game except the part where their numbers go up. I find it utterly baffling.

Spot on.

When people talking about ‘grinding’ in a mmo like GW2 I have to laugh. I remember people standing in the same spot in EQ killing the same spawn over and over because it was nearly impossible to find solo-able mobs (blues in EQ) that would give you decent xps. THAT was grinding, an no, it wasn’t fun.

Perspective?

I bought a product that was supposed to have horizontal progression in it and absolutely no vertical progression.

but after I paid, suddenly I’m being server stuff with vertical progression.
So it’s okay because the price was lower than other games?
What exactly am I supposed to put in perspective?
I made an informed purchase, I’ve consulted all available sources to make sure I’ll get horizontal progression and no vertical progression!

I’m glad you like vertical progression better than horizontal progression, but while you might feel like a lottery winner when you got your favourite type of game while paying for something that was to be completely different (why didn’t you read product description I don’t know), the vertical progression is something I want nothing to do with whatsoever.
There is absolutely nothing to put into perspective here.

absolutely no vertical progression” Are you freaking kidding? So that fact you knew from day 1 that game had 80 levels, and you’d start at Level 1… didn’t strike you as ‘vertical progression’ Did you expect to wear the same gear at Level 1 as you would as Level 80? Seriously?

How is going from 1-80 “absolutely no vertical progression”? That’s the VERY definition of vertical progression. Either you don’t understand English, didn’t read a single thing about the game, or are just lying. This is the kind of hyperbole I’m talking about.

I case people forgot, this game has NO monthly fee, just $60, period. And yet gets as many patches/fixes/updates as most mmos out there that have a monthly sub. Did they have to do the Halloween event, for free? No.

Free stuff doesn’t matter that much to you when it’s not the kind of free stuff you want.

This is the game I handed over cash for:

https://www.guildwars2.com/en-gb/the-game/personal-story/

And this:

https://www.guildwars2.com/en-gb/the-game/dynamic-events/

This is the game they’re still advertising.

“In Guild Wars 2, your actions really matter and your choices have an impact on the world around you. "

“Dynamic events change and evolve in response to how you interact with them, leaving lasting effects in the game world.”

“Guild Wars 2 goes beyond race and profession to a deeper level of character creation—the biography.”

“Guild Wars 2 provides players both the social, fully interactive feeling of a multiplayer game as well as the customized, choice-based story one expects from a personal role-playing game. "

“Use your surroundings for maximum effect. Your position on the battlefield is vitally important, as many attacks in Guild Wars 2 reward tactical player movement.”

On the contrary, all I’m seeing with these updates is emphasis on more-grind-for-woot. My presence has no effect on anything, as far as I can see.

And yet, I see those very things in the game that and you claim you don’t. They do have personal stories, they do have dynamic events, there are rpg elements.

“Free stuff doesn’t matter that much to you when it’s not the kind of free stuff you want.” Boy, that statement say a lot to me. So because if it’s not what YOU want, no one else playing could possibly enjoy it or see the value of it?

I understand GW2 next patch (a mini-expansion almost) may introduce some things that upset some people, especially the gear issue. I’ve had my issues with the game (mainly WvW related), but the whining and ‘omfg!’ posts are a bit melodramatic.

In case people forgot, this game has NO monthly fee, just $60, period. And yet gets as many patches/fixes/updates as most mmos out there that have a monthly sub. Did they have to do the Halloween event, for free? No.

Though I’m not a game developer, as an application developer for 15 yrs, I can tell you balancing the famous triangle of scope (features), resources (cost/budget) and schedule (time/release) is exceedingly difficult. I think they’ve done a h33l of a job managing the triangle. The game is feature rich, relatively inexpensive (again no monthly) and they are delivering patches and working on a bugs at a steady pace.

Of course, there’s problems, but holy kitten people, do you ever stop to just look at the game objectively and realize what you have in front of you for $60?

I’ve got 5 characters going, still haven’t seen nearly everything, am still loving both PvP / WvW and PvE, still learning tactics, enjoying crafting, map exploring, doing ‘hearts’, etc.

I started playing mmos with the original EQ in 1999. As fond as my memories are of it, when I look back and see what GW2 offers by comparison, for one flat fee, it’s hard not to shake my head a bit at the excessive apocalyptic whining.

I’m having a friggin’ blast with this game, even if I stopped playing today, I’d have still gotten more than my $60 of entertainment out of it.

Thanks Anet for a great game.

I don’t really see a problem with it. If Anet removed armour repairs from W3 then the amount of people logging out before death would drastically decrease.

Armor repair costs are no excuse for this pathetic tactic. What you save under 2 silver? just how often are you dying or are you that bad at making gold?

If you are on an underpopulated server, in a small guild, and on the ‘front lines’ a lot, it can add up and actually matter. You’d see less of this if they’d just remove or greatly reduce the repair cost.

Kralous.7563 It’s apparent you are on a winning or at least competitive server, or else you wouldn’t be so flippant. I’ve been WvW almost every day doing my best, but when you are constantly outnumbered and losing pvp guilds regularly, it’s just an exercise in frustration. My server came in dead last 5 weeks out of 6, finally finished 2nd (barely) last week, and we’re back to controlling nothing again this week.

People will either jump servers, like they’ve been doing, or quit, which I see happening too. And maybe you’re fine with that, but when 2/3 are constantly dominated by 1/3, guess what, you might eventually lose a LOT of people. And there’s a point when you lose enough critical mass, that player driven things like WvW will become nothing more than a few small teams running around pretty empty maps.

Or as morrolan said “They’re going to end up with WvW servers and other PvE only servers”

I keep hearing, wait a bit, it’s self-correcting, they’re get it eventually? WHEN?

My guild is slowly disappearing, hardly playing anymore. We’re on a low ranked server, that had ONE week out of SIX that was even a reasonably decent fight. The rest, it was over in the first day, with the winning server owning 90-95% of the map all week. This week looks to be no exception, it’s already over.

Each week we’ve lost pvp guilds, because it’s just painful to play. WHEN is ANet going to stop with the mutha fargin’ server transfers? It was supposed to last what, 3-4 days, maybe a week? It’s been SIX weeks, our server is becoming a WvW ghost town. I want to stay, but ANet does not reward server loyalty, only server hopping.

I was a huge supporter of GW2, got my guild to leave our last mmo for this, and I’m thinking it was a big mistake, I think I owe them an apology. And the silence from ANet is not reassuring, because I’m hearing squat.

Kiviar.7063 I was online with Nom about 3-4 days ago when he explicitly said they are moving to a new server — though he didn’t want to say which one.

I LOVE when people on the winning server say ‘l2p’ or $uck it up. Because when you’re outnumbered 2 or 3 to 1, and the enemy has +15% hps and +150 stats it’s SO easy right. I’m sure people in huge zergs with massive buffs think they have l33t skillz and feel free to criticize people playing 6 days at a disadvantage. Anyone can zerg, and honest people know it’s neither skill or anything else at that point.
