Somewhere a dev said the Riannoc thing was an oversight and it would be fixed later. I don’t know if it was fixed this patch. It wasn’t in the notes I believe.

I’m pretty sure Riannoc is still the first dead, just not so long before the other secondborn as in the last release.

Somehow doing it THIS way worked for me. (Didn’t need to change firewall though)

Thanks, good luck to rest. Definitely suspecting At&t as ISP as part of the issue. Perhaps they don’t update DNS properly or timely? I’m not informed so I’m just guessing.

Same issue. I had the same thing last patch but updating this config file deep in System32 fixed it then. Doesn’t work today.

The Pact being destroyed at the beginning of a new arc because of a new BIG BAD (Morde, not saying he’s a cliche but using him in this way would make him more cliche) is a terrible cliche. Please don’t listen to this, Anet.

There’s no reason for the Pact to dissolve just because its leader dies. First off there is the PC/Commander who is there. If the 3 orders have some in fighting if Trahearne died then that’d be another huge cliche. Terrible idea.

I feel like this is an issue for me. My alts were mostly levels 1-10 so I know it’s not much xp but I’m 90% sure that bar didn’t move after I logged in on my main.

Don’t know that Mordremoth is the last one. He’s just the last one that we have any inkling of knowledge about.

If you think Trahearne stole your glory then you didn’t get it and you’re missing the point of an MMO.

I can understand the reasoning behind the OP, good food for thought.

1. Yes we won’t get all the answers about Scarlet’s plans, but the community as a whole commanded Braham’s dialogue: he/we didn’t want to hear about why she did it, we wanted her gone. I personally didn’t hate her, but you’ve seen the outpouring of hate. It’s what we deserved for wanting her gone and moving on.
2. You mean that which dragon was awoken would not have mattered based on prior hints? I think not. Primordus contacting her would have been a big difference from his MO from what we know before. It’d be a bigger shift than say some krait working with “lesser races” to get religious artifacts. It’s not impossible but Mordremoth makes more sense. He’s not awake yet, he’s plant-affiliated. Plus being out WEST in the cutscene, past Rata Sum and Thaumanova… it fits well.

3. I agree, early on the dialogue was kitten poor and small. But it’s improved substantially so far. I trust Anet to shape up really well for Season 2.
On the topic of it taking time for the story to lead to greater scope and something DRAGON SIZED, well… that’s how stuff should go. We shouldn’t have constant action. Things of this scheme took and do take huge planning efforts. Scarlet was going on schedule I’d say. (That’s why she was never kittened at what we did, anyway.)

If you think the EDs are the only threat worth mentioning, then you’re disgracing yourself as a fan of the lore. Even forgetting the lore, in the Tyrian planet you have more to worry about than forces of nature out on the periphery of civilization. Tyrians adapted to the remaining dragons and only Jormag is severely affecting anyone imo (the Kodan), and perhaps Kralk with the Brand invading Charr lands from time to time (we don’t know how that’s going tbh).

You’re on the cusp of how to make an ED humanizable, it’s right here! Their effects on Tyrians. Such as a champion! Scarlet was extremely interesting (not a Mary Sue really) and she showed how dragons can cause tragedies. Scarlet is a tragic figure.

And really, do you NEED villains to be relatable? That’s sort of cliche.. Not everyone has a good reason for what they do or whatever. Sometimes hurricanes happen and there can be human interest stories within them but the hurricane doesn’t care. That’s an Elder Dragon.

I think morally gray villains and heroes are too fotm. We need some straight shooters mixed in too, like Logan. I think Zojja is pretty alright too.

Playing as a Djinn would be really silly. Just not sentient enough (if free spirited).

Largos are constrained (currently) by profession archetypes in a way no other race was. We’ve seen hunters but they all have the assassin flavor to them. That could change of course.

One big reason people love the Tengu are their history in GW1, especially in the end during Winds of Change.

People who prefer the GW1 art style are out of luck. They didn’t change lore-wise, they just look different in GW2.

Disagreed entirely. If you want lore, go with a RP-centric approach using the 2 more lore-involved orders, especially the Priory.

As inspired by a reddit thread in which events and their existence/communication to players made me come up with this.

Basically, the NPCs that shout or plead or cry to you to help them because their village/partner/plan/what have you needs help are in a good position to expand awareness of ongoing events. Currently they’ll talk at you and emote (as shown in the log) at you, but you don’t know exactly what they mean unless you talk to them. You must talk to them and then select the dialog to “accept” to help their event to get the event to show up in your UI panel and map.

I propose that these NPCs automatically add the event to your UI and offer the dialog as an option to show newer/less explorer-type players where other events are happening, especially those off the commonly played or farmed paths.

Additionally, the functionality with the dialogs permanently “sticks” the event on your event pane unless it ends, you switch maps, or log out. I think that should be changed if this is implemented but perhaps on a timer or something like that.

All credibility you might have is thrown out the window if you say “Asurans”. So inaccurate. <_<

Give me an NPC boss that’s as tough as a good PvP player, and adaptive, and I’ll give it a shot. There’s a solid chance I may even enjoy taking it on in a fair fight, even if I lose.

Give me a player to fight in PvP, even an unskilled one that I can easily beat, and I’ll feel bad. Uncomfortable. I’ll worry that they were having a bad day, and instead of getting to blow off a bit of steam, I just added that final straw that takes them from unhappy to miserable, or something similar. It may not be rational, but it’s there.

With all that said, I’m thrilled they’re putting the LS into PvP areas. I hope it’s such an unmitigated disaster that they finally realize that the game modes need to be kept separate. No more forcing players into other parts of the game against their wishes.

I think the problems highlighted with this interview are more problematic for lore than Scarlet is. Angel responded but evidently could use a more thorough screening process I think.

I still care, but I barely finish each meta/monthly.

I think Scarlet could use work and give us more depth of lore related details but she does not outright break any lore. I don’t meant to say I excuse the lore and writing teams of all faults but she hasn’t destroyed lore like people say.

And I love the lore.

I’d like to know if ANYONE came away feeling they understood Scarlet’s invasions from an in-setting perspective? Seriously, is there a single goal on any map they appear on that they take action to seize? No, of course not. They’re like deer, or dolyaks, just another form of natural resource.

Not sure if this is the right place to talk about it but I would say I definitely understand the Invasions from an out-of-universe perspective, but my in-game character would be a lot less knowledgable. That said, they’d be able to figure out that the MA was formed by Scarlet’s machinations as well as the Aetherblades and somehow the Steamcreatures fit in too.

I would like to respond to what Bobby Stein just posted. I have followed his name a lot and I know he’s been responsible for writing in GW2 after a long time doing writing things in GW1 too. He’s been involved with Tyria for a while and I think as a fan/observer of this now very transparent dialogue he has grown as a writer, a developer and as a community collaborator. It sounds like a big PR dribble quote I’m making but I want him to know that I think he is adding value to his professional skills. People went out of their way to talk about why they hate Trahearne (mostly inappropriately or without merit) and he took it in stride in the initial post-release feedback topics. I think the story has started to increase in nuance and general quality since August 2012. He’s part of that change.

He sounds honest in these posts and gets me to feel, at least this one fan, that the team can accept they didn’t put forth an excellent writing component to their product at onset but they have the option to do more or to do better. I think his plan for Scarlet’s characterization and what is apparently planned is just what we needed to hear. At least for me. I think Scarlet is similar to “Mary Sue” type but she probably isn’t one. I defend her against hordes of internet opinions on Reddit from time to time. If she has more to her than being crazy than I might just be right in my hunch. I hope for the sake of lore and story progression that she shows some cool aspects of Eternal Alchemy or other things that make Tyria the way it is. She can expose cool new and old aspects of lore to us! Anyway, thank you Bobby and to the team for having this discussion. Keep adding that sexy nuance to your set pieces.

This is where I think your theory fails.

The Flame Legion despise two things: humans, and female charr. In Iron Marches there’s a good number of Flame Legion event dialogues that outright dis humanity – and anyone who doesn’t think humanity should be wiped out, to the Flame Legion, are just as terrible.

So I cannot ever see the Flame Legion working with a human – let alone a female human. Sylvari or norn are far more likely. Or asura.

Simple, use a liaison or use a potion to change appearance. When talking to the Dredge perhaps go in person because the dredge NPC in FF said there was a lady.

I don’t understand why people have an obsession with seeing progression for NPCs first hand. If it’s a new character of course she developed on her own. And if she’s a sylvari perhaps she didn’t change much since being born into Tyria.

A fall from grace is an overdone trope. A Harley Quinn is much less common.

How would ANet show the Eternal Alchemy scenes? It sounds like quite a production and I don’t trust Anet to gather the resources to produce that.

Vereta wanted to raise minions from corpses that lived without degenerating. They were from corpses, and that’s the difference from elemental minions. Perhaps an advanced mage of some caliber could conjure minions from some other media and make them look or function like bone minions, but that’s another idea.

What I get from Konig’s opinion is that because it’s intended to be a canon diversion from the other LS content, it should still be serious. I don’t agree, it’s his personal view that he is very attached to and is disappointed ANet content designers aren’t in line with.

It’s a cute diversion, though I wish it wasn’t right after Scarlet was revealed for the sake of wanting answers.

I discussed this at length with someone on reddit. I think she is a good departure from the typical morally gray villain in fantasy writing and brooding dark angry guy who comes from humble beginnings. This is fun and different, imo.

People who dislike Scarlet probably wish their own asura or other characters could graduate from all 3 colleges and learn special secret knowledge from esoteric sources in game but sadly we play an MMO where that’s not possible. I personally don’t mind that. Scarlet’s exceptional and worked hard to follow her personal goal to understand the Tyrian universe. That’s how I see it.

Hello. I was trying to kill Liadri today and I queued up for it without any gambits and just talked to the Ringmaster. I then ran around the upper circle railing to the other side of the Crown Pavilion. Once it was my turn I was on the other side, so I had a loading screen while it took me into the gauntlet arena room. Upon loading I saw Liadri as well as Deadeye’s traps. There was another player in my room, who had queued for Deadeye.

Basically we quickly both went downed. He died but I was able to use skill 4 to revive myself while all enemies disappeared from the gauntlet room. I stood inside and ran in circles and used skills for a few minutes, definitely more than the time it takes to be dropped from the room due to the time limit on the challenges. I still stayed and the other guy couldn’t get inside although he was in queue and it seemed like there was no challenge inside. He suggested I log out. I did so and it ported me up to the railing near the ringmaster and the queue fixed itself, and he could proceed with farming the Gauntlet again.

The fact that they have hardcore content is good enough. It would be neat if it gave a title for having all gambits on and killing her, though.

Morrolan’s tastes are probably used to typical blah blah writing in which everything is stated explicitly and very boring character development.

I was quite satisfied with the writing save a few parts where I had to gloss over extensive ship descriptions I had no care for. Also some overly dramatic uses of fantasy writing style. Cobiah was annoying as a young man and became wise (for a pirate) by the end.

And nice cameo for Livia although she was pretty passive in the fight.

If someone tries to talk about lore and they say “asurans” I just ignore them because they don’t know what they’re taking about.

Primarily because we see jotun architecture in GW2, and it looks nothing like the Hall of Monuments. The assumption here is that each race had a single architectural style. It’s an assumption, not proven fact, but we’ve been shown no evidence to the contrary.

Examples of OLD Jotun architecture please? We only see modern, crappy Jotun huts as far as I know.

I think people are going too far if they say all the human models have anatomy problems. Without diagrams I think you’re just being “edgy”. The boob sizes are hilarious at time and probably fundraisers at times (see Mini Casmeer, bet that could make a lot of money if it was gem-only). But sometimes they look good, even on the larger sizes. I only made one female and that’s a Norn, and there I agree it’s super unnatural but they aren’t human so it makes lore-sense.

I like this interpretation haha. The gender dynamic is pretty different for Norn compared to humans, and rightfully so.

Or they could be sex slaves, sadly. It should be mentioned in living story updates, or perhaps should have been done in frost and flame offhandedly. But in all likelihood they could be corrupted if Jormag wanted to do so but he just doesn’t for whatever reason. He just has icy affliction kill them and not turn them.

Because my main character is a descendent of my main character in GW1. And the females, humans don’t have bad ones.

Prayer to Dwayna all the time until I realized the other mesmer heals aren’t that bad anymore.
