Any API update for WvW Skirmishing?

in API Development

Posted by: Nabrok.9023

Nabrok.9023

Without a full history, would it be possible to include the war score of the previous skirmish (including kill/death breakdowns)? That way we don’t have to try and catch it just before it switches over to the next one.

Let’s Talk Scoring…

in WvW

Nabrok.9023

For the most part I like it, I’m not a fan of the population based multiplier potential system though.

The proposed changes without that should lessen the run-away effect, but honestly if you don’t have the population to compete you really should end up losing the match anyway. With the new system you have a better chance to compensate in other time periods, but weighting is just going to skew results, keep mismatches together for longer, and potentially create hostile environments where people are being told to get off the map.

I’m also not a fan of “Last Stand”. Why should one day be more important than any other? Similar things have been tried in certain sports such as formula one, and it failed there too.

You do want to encourage people to play week-long but don’t do this through score, do it through rewards. You win a skirmish (2 hour time window), you get a reward.

Most endpoints have a 5 minute cache on anets side, so there’s not much point in querying any more often than that.

One exception is /v2/wvw/matches or the v1 equivalent which seem to be more or less real time.

PvP missions and the queue

in PvP

Posted by: Nabrok.9023

Nabrok.9023

Another night, mission failed … due to the queue.

Despite what some people think here on the forum, the lord rush stronghold meta is dead. It rarely works any more, and matches become extremely prolonged. I’ve seen 15 minute matches that only managed to knock 1 door down … that’s not 1 door for each team, just one door.

Add to that the reduced queue time favor from yesterdays patch and you have 15 minute matches + 6 or more minute queues (NA prime time) plus a couple minutes waiting to start, and so on to win two games in 40 minutes.

The math doesn’t work out.

We started the mission right before the first match, which we won. Hoped for a short queue, didn’t get it. 10 minutes left when we go in. Only chance is to take a gamble and go all-out offense. It didn’t work, and we did lose the game eventually but it was close and we probably would have won it if we’d started the match out properly … but not in anywhere near enough time to complete the mission.

EDIT: Also the 18 channel mission is ridiculous and I will not participate in it. Not because it’s difficult, but because it promotes not trying to win the match.

  • Statistics on guild teams as shown in the guild panel (likely would require guild leader + guilds permission)
  • Unauthenticated endpoint listing top 1,000 in guild challenger league.

Delete the guild missions !!!

in PvP

Nabrok.9023

I actually came here to post about this mission … it’s a bad mission.

Not because it’s difficult … difficult is fine … it’s because it encourages doing something other than winning.

18 channels means you have to spend about 3 games (or more if you miss a few) doing nothing but channeling. If you have an opportunity to win the match before all the channels are up … don’t take it, wait for the channels.

And if you do get them all, thanks to the timer on the mission (another bad idea for PvP missions, should remove the timer and make it within a certain number of matches) you want the match to end as quickly as possible so you can get into the next one. What’s the fastest way to do that? AFK at spawn and let the other team kill your lord for free.

Ascended Items have split stats?

in API Development

Posted by: Nabrok.9023

Nabrok.9023

I think i know where that comes from.
Once up on a time, loooong ago. Ascended trinkets had double stats. One set was the base stats like any item. and the other set was the stats of the gem on it. only because ascended items were (at the time) not intended to be salvagable. the double stats caused confusion in players.
So then A-net changed it so it added up the stats and showed it as just one set of stats.
However, i would not be surpriced that on back end, its still treated as two sets of stats.

This would be why. Ascended trinkets have two stat prefixes, often the two are the same, but not always (for example there is no Valkyrie/Valkyrie, only Valkyrie/Berserker).

Originally the stats for each prefix were shown separately, but later they combined it in the display to simplify the display.

PvP mission timer

in PvP

Posted by: Nabrok.9023

Nabrok.9023

We had two PvP missions this week, 8,000 rank points in 30 minutes and 2 wins in 40 minutes.

We form a team, queue up, and I wait until the queue pops before activating the mission (but before we go in to the match of course).

First match is stronghold against another guild team. We win, but it goes the full 15 minute timer. With 5 members we’re still a few hundred rank points short of the goals.

We decide to take stronghold out of the mix, it can be very fast, but it can also be very slow. In queue again for a few more minutes, and we’re facing another guild team on Khylo. We lost this one, but it shouldn’t matter, we only needed a few hundred rank points … except too late. This match went on for nearly 13 minutes. That plus the queue time (and the wasted three minutes waiting for people to ready up) cost us the mission.

We did eventually get both missions done, but we could/should have had it done earlier.

So here’s my idea … get rid of the timer completely or make it so long you practically have (i.e. 24 hours). Instead make it within a certain number of matches. For example the two missions we had this week would become …

  • Earn 8,000 rank points within 2 matches.
  • Earn 2 wins within 3 matches.

Idea for scaling guild hall costs

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Nabrok.9023

Another thought … maybe delay the deactivation for a while … maybe a week, maybe a variable amount depending on level. That way you don’t lose stuff right away.

It could also be that there just isn’t a way to reasonably scale the costs, but a lot of people do seem to be looking for that, so just exploring how it could be done.

Idea for scaling guild hall costs

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nabrok.9023

Nabrok.9023

That would create a serious disincentive for people to grow their guilds. Imagine the guild at 49 people who wants to invite a friend in but doesn’t want to pay the enormous fees to make their previous investment work again?

Yes, that is a disadvantage. Hopefully the costs could scale easily enough that it’s not a huge leap between each tier (perhaps more tiers would help?) and some of the cheaper upgrades might have very little scaling at all.

I don’t think there’s a way to avoid this with any kind of scaling and also avoid the kind of exploitation I mentioned above.

Also why I included the bit about continuing to contribute towards the next tier for upgrades you have purchased.

An earlier thought was that you’d pay the difference all at once to increase your cap, but that would get very expensive when you have a lot of upgrades, so thought it better this way so that guilds could increase right away and then prioritize what to activate.

Idea for scaling guild hall costs

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nabrok.9023

Nabrok.9023

Some thoughts I had on how scaling guild hall costs could be achieved.

I think the biggest hurdle is avoiding exploitation … for example a large guild sends all its members to a side guild leaving it’s main guild very small, gets cheap upgrades, then invites all its members back.

So, here’s my idea to avoid that and also not invalidate work already done …

First, define some size options. Let’s say …

  • Small guild – 50 person cap
  • Medium guild – 150 person cap
  • Large guild – 300 person cap
  • Very Large guild – 500 person cap

A guild could change their size at will up or down, assuming they do not have more members than the cap. Guilds at lower sizes have appropriately reduced costs for upgrades. The game will remember the cost that you have paid for each upgrade.

When you increase the size of your guild, any upgrades that have not met the new cost are temporarily disabled until the difference is deposited. Perhaps you could continue to deposit towards already bought upgrades so that you could immediately have them available after a size increase.

Oh, and unrelated … could we get the ability to shift-click items in the treasury to link them? This would be handy for both discussing the next upgrade to be pursued or just checking the wiki.

I don’t know if ArenaNet considers the minipets as the official wiki page do expecially for the “group”, “set”, “family”, call it as you want. Anyway most of them are not part of a collection; I think you are talking about the achievement collections.

There are no other kinds of collections (what was previously called collectibles are now called materials).

The only thing that really matters is which collection the mini falls into, and if it doesn’t fall into one an app could just call it “other”.

Couple of points on missions

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Nabrok.9023

Nabrok.9023

We used our guild portal for missions for the first time today. We used it for race first, unfortunately it did not take the entire guild to the same instance.

On the topic of race, this is so confusing at the moment with multiple guilds starting their races and the race timer versus the mission timer and so on. Could we not have race instanced like challenge?

For Trek we organized into 3 groups, group 1 doing 1-10, group 2 doing 11-20, group 3 doing 21-30. Great … except all the numbers on the targets (1 of 30, and so on) disappeared as soon as I clicked “Launch Mission”.

Could we also get something in the “quest” area of the screen (where the dailies are and so on) that shows the active guild mission and its state?

Is there even a reasonable way to get to 50 without decorations? We don’t have the vendor yet, and everything in the list is grey or green except the decoration upgrades (I’m at 47).

Also, I can’t see how to make schematics … I guess I’m just not high enough to make them yet … when is the first one?

The amount of sand is ridiculous. I feel like I have to go play in Dry Top, when I’d much rather be doing other stuff. It doesn’t make any sense why they would require so much of a material that basically just comes from one zone.

At the very least they could increase the drop rate … instead of 1 whenever you don’t get anything else, make it drop 1-3 and have it drop on every opening in addition to the regular drop (geode, crest, etc).

I had to abandon that idea and just give users a drop down to select which character they are on (it does default to the list order though, so most of the time they don’t need to change anything).

The only way to get a player’s current position is the Mumble Link API.

Pretty much this.

Due to our architecture, the client’s state (currently only available via Mumble link) is the only way to get high-precision positional data. We might at some point expose low-precision data through the API, but a 10-second resolution is the best that we can do over the network.

10 seconds should be more than enough I should think.

Hammer still feels too slow and/or weak

I think I know what the OP is getting at. Hammer AA with it’s 1s cast feel’s ‘slow’. But that’s probably because he’s use to fast attacking weapons like me e.g. daggers and swords. I actually think the utility of the hammer is fine and if they tried to make the hammer quicker they’d end up nerfing damage. Personally, I think the OP needs to either accept hammer’s are a slow weapon for Rev’s or do what I did and use faster weapons.

I had lots of fun in PvE with S/S + S/Sh (Glint + Jalis/Shiro) and in sPvP M/Sh + St (Mallyx + Glint). I think the hammer is too good to give up for WvW though, but I didn;t test it that much.

Close …. slow and hard hitting would be fine, but as it is it’s just slow and meh. I literally lose more than half of my dps switching from sword to hammer. It’s supposed to feel slow and heavy. It just feels slow.

And yes, I do use sword and staff as well … and having weapon swap mitigates the problem somewhat as I can switch to faster weapons when needed.

even something like a tower or keep lord can be dead by the time I get there.

This has nothing to do with hammer attack speed.

Of course it does. If a champion (as keep lords are) is already dead by the time I press 1 and the attack actually hits, that’s a problem.

Just tagging in general with the hammer is very difficult … tab … “nope dead” … tab …. “nope dead” … tab …. “ah, got a hit!” tab …. “nope, dead” … and so on …

So a champ dies in 1 second? Problem is champ, not the skill.

They can go down pretty quick in wvw sometimes. I wouldn’t say 1 second, but certainly seconds, and I may not always start attacking at the same moment that every body else does. I have certainly missed tagging a keep or tower lord because hammer was too slow, and while that doesn’t prevent credit for the capture of the structure it does cost me a champion bag.

That said, I’d live with it if hammer actually felt that it hit heavy but it just doesn’t. Every attack in the sword auto-attack chain except the middle one hits heavier, and it’s much faster. Yes, melee should do more damage than ranged, but there’s a lot of room in there to improve hammer auto damage and still average less than sword. Even if they doubled hammer auto damage (which I am not suggesting), it would still be less than the sword auto chain.

I get that your vision for hammer is that it’s a slow “heavy” attack, but it still just doesn’t feel that heavy.

For example I’m playing sword/sword and hammer, and when I switch to hammer I’m still seeing the same kind of numbers I got with sword, but a lot slower.

I get that ranged attacks should be less damaging than melee on average, but with hammer being so slow I think it really needs a bit more of a bump.

Either that or make it just a bit faster … which I would really prefer, the biggest problem I have with it is just tagging stuff because by the time it swings whatever it was is already dead … even something like a tower or keep lord can be dead by the time I get there. It doesn’t matter how much you hit for if you can never get a hit.

Other than that, I was very happy with how revenant is turning out.

No official way as of yet.

You can look at the achievements leaderboard and filter by guild.

New endpoints: pvp and char specializations

I’m not sure what bye/desertion mean TBH.

“Bye” is when somebody on opposing team disconnects and you win. “Desertion” is when somebody on your team disconnects and you lose.

So, when you lose even though there’s a disconnect on the other team (or vice versa), it’s not logged? (yes, it has happened to me…)

If you win as the “4”, or lose as the “5”, then I think it’s just counted as a win or loss.

[Suggestion] WvW achievements

in WvW

Nabrok.9023

For Heart of Thorns, we are rebalancing the WvW Lifetime achievement requirements to much more reasonable numbers. At the same time we’ll also be updating many of their associated titles.

  • We are not changing the Realm Avenger (“Ultimate Dominator”) achievement requirements or title, as some players have actually obtained it and it’s a bit of a status symbol.
  • The “Yakslapper” title will remain, but the requirement is being reduced to 2500 yaks.
  • As an example title change: “Ultimate Liberator” will become “Kingmaker”

Please remember that some people like to look at these achievements as “lifetime stats”.

You can lower the numbers and still accomplish this by adding in repeatable achievements, similar to the salvage one.

New permissions.

Will the build permission unlock equipment on /v2/characters? i.e. equipment would be shown if the key has “build” or “inventories”?

It does! There’s a bug that prevents /v2/characters/:id/equipment from working but the equipment section will be included in the main character blobs if either “builds” or “inventories” permissions are granted.

Thanks!
