Tarnished Coast – Dissentient [DIS]
All classes
I would not be surprised if they have been working on it since the game’s release tbh, I don’t see any company shooting themselves in the foot by not making expansions in this day and age.
The content that comes in an expansion, certainly. The actual box? No.
It’ll come packaged as living story, not a retail expansion.
That’s not an expansion.
Exactly, there will not be an expansion. There will be content that you might traditionally associate with an expansion, and it’ll be delivered through living story updates.
No one in their right minds compares the horrors of LS with true expansion content.
An expansion:
- Adds several permanent areas to a game
- Adds new skills/classes/races
- Adds more than one new dungeon
- Adds a lot of skins and weapon skins
LS has added:
- Temporary Content that if you aren’t so hardcore you never log you’ll never see all of
- A zone that is now dead sans botters
- Gem store cash grab skins
I fail to see the connection between LS and an expansion. I fail to see the connection between LS and content updates at all. Temporary content =/= content.
Then you haven’t really been paying attention. Living Story updates can, have, and will introduce all the things you listed. They’re just not going to do it all at once. You’ll get a bit here and a bit there, but it all adds up.
Living Story isn’t about temporary content, it’s about temporary content that introduces permanent content. Kessex Hills is a great example of this, we got a revamped zone but it didn’t just pop out of nowhere, we got story that we could actually participate in that told us what happened.
That tower was there for a month, but you say only hardcore who never log could get a chance to experience? Absolute nonsense.

How many times do they need to say that content traditionally associated with expansions will be released through LS updates before people notice?
I know they have said that but the problem is…..the content leaves and is gated so it has to be completed in the 2 week time frame or it’s gone, granted events like the current Wintersday are reoccurring but just like the LS it is gated and leaves the game after it’s ran it’s course.
I’m not complaining, I actually like most of the LS content, but the fact remains that it isn’t enough to hold the interest of players who have been here over a year and have completed most of the tasks that the game offers not involving LS.
Anet will have to open new areas of the map with new DEs, Champs, Hearts, Vistas, and mobs to keep the players happy and coming back to GW2, someone in another thread made a great analogy about sitting through a 2 hr movie that you had seen a hundred times and how much interest do you have in watching it? while I enjoy killing the shaman at the Maw it is getting quite stale, it’s a great fight for the first 1-20 times but after that it’s just kinda’ boring and I look for other things to do, after you do those other things what is left?
Yeah, because all of the LS updates have been entirely temporary content, and we totally don’t have a modified path in TA, scarlet invasions, updated Tequatil, new fractals, revamped Kessex Hills, oh and Southsun Cove …. yeah, that’s all gone now.
Living Story is not just temporary content … it’s some temporary content that’s used to introduce permanent content.
Outside of seasonal content, there was remarkably little temporary content in the second half of the year, and even a lot of the temporary content from the first half has returned to us as permanent content in fractals.
Additionally, when there is temporary content, it’s not just there for two weeks. The general pattern was one larger update with content that lasts for a month with a smaller follow-up two weeks later.
That defense infusion slot is another main benefit to ascended armor.
sure, you get +2 stats to the item, but the infusions can have +5 stat and +1% dmg vs. wvw guards and such. that bumps it to +7 stats higher than exotic (plus more dmg to guards). on all 6 armors, that’s a +54 stat difference for med armor without infusion; +84 stat difference for med armor with infusion.
that’s half the stats a Plate of Orrian Streak Frittes gives you right there.
It’s a defensive infusion so it’s -1% damage from guards, not +1% damage to guards.
How many times do they need to say that content traditionally associated with expansions will be released through LS updates before people notice?
If you want to role play a dungeon, transfer to TC and join an RP guild and run dungeons with people who pretend to be surprised by the Spider Queen when it pops out the first time they run AC on a new character.
Haha, it always amuses me what people think goes on in TC.
Not that. I’ve never even heard of RP in a dungeon, the RPers generally stick to out of the way places and if you didn’t think to look for them you’d barely even know they were there.
Plus, as dungeons are cross-server and TC is a highly populated world, you’ve probably been in dungeons with TC players many, many times. Some of them might even role-play.
One thing could be an issue. I had a level 45 member in a group before who thought it is OK to have level 35 gear because this is a level 35 dungeon. Apparently, armor scaling doesn’t work that way…
Assuming that downscaling works similarly to upscaling in WvW, it scales the gear relative to your level.
This is easily demonstrated in WvW while upscaled. Wear some +vit and watch your health pool drop as you level up. Keep everything (including trinkets) within 5 levels and you’ll keep up with the 80s.
So, in dungeons a level 45 wearing 35 gear would be something like a level 35 wearing level 27 gear.
But … who cares? If you’re taking low levels you’re just there for the fun of it, not doing a speed run or whatever.
Since when is making a suggestion arrogant? All I said is that the Solo Queue daily is not on par with all other dailies in the game in terms of time commitment required.
Oh really?
Daily regional killer
Daily here be dragons
Daily crab toss champion
Daily aquatic slayer
Daily fractal runner
Daily kill variety
Daily mists caravan disruptor
Daily dungeon completer
Daily group event completer
Daily master of ruins
Daily personal story finisher
Daily story dungeon completerRemind me again how these are less grindy and more fun than solo queue daily.
Let’s see …
Regional killer – easy, can usually be combined with other dailies
Here be dragons – doesn’t seem to come up any more, probably removed.
Crab Toss Champion – Doesn’t exist anymore, replaced with daily activity which takes about 5 minutes.
Aquatic Slayer – easy, can often be combined with other dailies (i.e. regional).
Fractal Runner – one of the longer ones, however if you want to get out quick you can roll swamp and quit after (don’t need to do a full run).
Kill Variety – easy, most likely completed as you do the rest.
Caravan Disruptor – Can be solo’d.
Dungeon Completer – Could be a longer one, or you could run CoF in about 15 minutes.
Group Event – Take a tower in wvw, currently some of the LS events in kessex, champ trains in frostgorge/queensdale. Quite easy.
Master of Ruins – Can be solo’d.
Personal Story – easy.
Story Dungeon – You can find a group with LFG tool easily enough. AC story is quite quick.
The longest one there is fractal runner if you do a full fractal run, which would be about an hour and a half. Excluding that one, all the rest combined could be completed in 1-2 hours. Also, you never get fractals, explorable dungeon and story dungeon in the same day.
So yeah, the new PvP dailies take a lot more time than any of the other dailies.
It’s not like there’s not an easy counter. Sweep and sentry and you should be fine.
Uhm … you think this is a new thing? Mesmers hiding in keeps has been part of the game since day 1.
Just make sure you do a sweep after capping.
There isn’t an official API for it. A scraper isn’t hard to put together though. Use responsibly.
Somehow I did fractals every day for two weeks and didn’t get dredge once.
My suggestion:
Wow, he brings up a valid point and he does so politely, not going off on a rant … and you guys just jump down his throat.
I think you two need to take a step back and calm down a bit.
Yeah, it’s really low. Maybe 1 in 4 or 5 salvages? PvE salvages you get luck from every blue or green.
I have a useful fix for this: change wins to matches played. Everyone will be happy.
Agreed.
Yep, sorry for the confusion. It’s when you accept the chest. That’s the time you get the bonus rank points and rewards.
You should now get 450 bonus points for a Solo Arena Win and 1000 bonus points for a Team Arena win. This is in addition to the the regular match rewards.
Yup, I just got 450 for a solo win. Thank you!
In the live stream they said not to open chests until Tuesday, because after that you can get luck for breaking down the items.
They also said that luck will have a role in PvP somehow.
Wtf i opened chest but didnt get any rank points?
I think you get the rank points as you accept the chest (when you click on it above your mini map), not when you open them.
They specifically said the rewards would be based around average play, not farming.
1.5g/hour sounds about right, if not a bit generous, for average play. It’s also more than you’re likely to get in WvW.
The last few posts of this topic sound like the guys who got their accounts botched for massively exploiting the Karma bug at games launch and are slipping in here with a sour perspective on it.
And you sound like you have no clue what you are talking about.
My game account has never been banned, permanent or temporary.
If you don’t like me pointing out the fact that this is considered an exploit, so be it. But don’t make an assumption about me, especially when it’s wrong
For all we know this is an intended change, not an exploit.
It wouldn’t be the first time a change gets made and the corresponding tooltip doesn’t get updated.
I don’t really care either way, but I’ll be continuing to use my salvage kit as I always have.
It was quite clever. If you wanted to be in the leaderboard by clearing 50, you’d have to pay for the agony. So a free goldsink for the ones that desperately wanted to have their name on a pointless leaderboard.
Correction: a non-existent pointless leaderboard.
Who will bet against me that Fractal Weapon boxes will mysteriously start dropping after this patch, and the leaderboard will suddenly go live? And they will say “those boxes were always in the game” and “the leaderboard needed time to gather data before going live” but it will be clear to everyone that they simply couldn’t ship those features by the deadline and they slipped them in later with no comment to avoid embarrassment.
Interesting theory, but as I recall there was a similar delay when they introduced the achievements leaderboard.

It’s a game. Everything about it is pointless. A lot of it is fun … but still pointless.
I have a couple of other things I’d like to mention. I don’t think we’d want to focus the commander on the guild system. It could be that I’m wrong about that, but it feels restricting to say you can’t be a commander, or a full-fledged one, unless you are in a guild of a certain size. How would people feel if, instead, there were some additional unlocks you could get as a guild commander that only displayed to people in your guild? Maybe if you are in guild only mode on your tag you have some additional tools?
YES! This absolutely should be in addition to the regular commander option, but I would love it if I could set a rank permission to allow somebody to become a guild commander.
My guild generally has about 5-10 people in WvW each evening. It’s great if we have 5, we can party up and everybody knows where everybody is. 9 or 10 is ok too as that’s two full groups, but when we have 6 or 7 is where it gets a bit awkward. We can, and do, split into more even groups, but it’s a hassle. Having a commander tag only seen by the guild could help immensely.
It doesn’t help that in the live stream before the patch the devs actually said “ten to twenty, twenty to thirty”.
While 85 AR, or even 70 AR without any of the new infusions, is more than enough for current fractal levels, there will be higher fractals in the future. Your money is not wasted.
And remember, we will never be able to get any higher than 70 AR from just basic infusions.
Also, it seems a bit simplistic that you only counted the cost of the infusions and not the cost of creating the armor itself.
Edit: I doubt you’re in any danger if you use this exploit a few times, but if you’re using it a lot (say to get your monthly crafting via salvaging for blue luck in order to craft green luck), you perhaps should stop and buy some basic kits to use instead for now.
No, the kit rarity makes absolutely no difference to the amount of luck you receive, so luck has not changed.
The only difference is my bags now fill up with a bunch of minor runes and sigils, and while I can sell them for a whopping 16c a piece it’s almost more of an inconvenience due to the bag slots they take up.
For yellows I’m still using my mystic kit, but if there’s dev confirmation that this is an intended change I probably won’t make another after my current one runs out.
When did this happen? I only use my copper fed on blues and greens.
You didn’t notice all the minor runes and sigils suddenly filling your inventory?
@Ropechef : the tiers actually are :
level 1 – 10 = daily chest. with gold, Pristine relic, and other loots.
level 11 – 20 = daily chest with Gold, Pristine relic, chance at ring, small chance at skin and other loots.
level 21 – 30 = daily chest with gold, pristine relic, chance at ring, chance atinfusedring, small chance at skin, and other loots.
level 31 – 40 = daily chest with gold, pristine relic, chance at Infused ring, chance at skin and other loots.
level 41 – 50 = daily chest with gold, pristine relic, chance at infused ring, chance at skin, and other loots. From my experience.
If you have enough AR, the best course seems to be : 10 – 20 – 30 – 40 – 50, since the instabilities at 40 and 50 are only a gear check (agony applied regularly).
You seem to need 50AR for fract. 40 and 70AR for fract. 50 (though the consensus is that 64AR is enough and relatively easily attainable — you only need each of your 3 agony slots equipped with +8 infusion).
Are you absolutely sure about that? Pre-patch there was no pristine relic from 1-9, the first one you get was at the beginning of the next tier at level 10.
You can’t eliminate Glory because it’s part of the PvP currency or it’ll become p2win skins. which doesn’t suit pvp at all.
The vendors will be selling things for glory + gold, you can’t buy anything with just gold. Once the new reward system is and place, and glory is retired, those vendors will be removed and the new reward system will be the way to get things.
Why not just glory? I’m sure you’re aware that many who predominantly or exclusively PvP do not have much in the way of gold. Or … two tabs … one where you can buy with glory + gold and another where you can buy with a larger amount of glory and no gold.
I do think you guys jumped the gun on announcing this. You tell us you’re removing something, but give us no real details on what you will be replacing it with. I think you should have waited until you were ready to give more details about the new system.
Edit to add: I’m not an exclusively PvP player, but neither do I run a lot of champ farms, play the tp, or do other things that generally generate a lot of gold. I think at the moment I have around 70g. I do have around 170,000+ glory. I am concerned that I won’t be able to spend all that glory before it is removed due to the gold requirement … as I do need that gold for other stuff too.

Lets make it more clear, if i want 2 daily chests giving rings, what would i have to do? Or i only care for the 20 bonus frac tokens in the chest, and i want 3 of them, what’s the easier (lowest level) possible to do them?
I think (not tested) …
For 2 chests with rings a 10 and a 20.
For 3 easiest chests a 1, 10, and 20.
Note that before the patch if you were at reward level 1 you didn’t get a chest, so it’s possible that 2 may be the lowest that gives a chest, but I wouldn’t think so given that every level now rewards chests.
As far as I know, 10 and 20 are separate dailies, I think your friend might have been mistaken.
For people that don’t wvw and hate doing temple events, this is a nice way to get dragonite ore. I believe all types of ascended materials should be acquired in fractals.
WvW is not a viable way to obtain dragonite. It’s 3-5 for a keep.
Bloodstone drops from champs, which are everywhere. Empyreal is fairly easy to get in dungeons, fractals, WvW, jumping puzzles. Dragonite … the only place to get it is world events.
I don’t do that many world events, and when I do the only reason I’m doing it is to get dragonite. I would love a way to buy some with pristine relics.
Upcoming changes to the reward system is an excellent idea. Gold in place of glory another excellent idea. Your implementation of the new system though doesn’t seem right to me.
We haven’t released any details about the new reward system. The rewards going in December 10th are more of a way of rewarding players for the glory they have earned before we retire it.
We have talked about various ways to handle retiring glory, and we’re still open to those discussions.
Please make 18 slot bags available from rank 30 ish ^^
i have been yearning for those and i am so close to getting them..
The ranks and glory vendors aren’t going away on the December 10th patch, that is later.
You (and I) still have some time to get up to rank 40.
They plan on adding different versions of those finishers in the new ladder system they wish to implement.
Hmm i dint quite get that by reading the dev post, do you have a source?
Right in the blog post …
Once ladders are implemented, ranks will be retired. To honor the effort that players have put into the rank system, existing players will be able to keep all unlocked rank finishers and will earn a special title based on your rank to show that you were there from the start. Variants of existing rank finishers will move to the ladder system and will be used to show your current standings on the ladder from season to season. The original finishers will not be earnable again.
I’m a bit over 400 and I’ve received the warhorn and pistol. Haven’t had any since the patch yet.
How much glory will they cost?
Can you clarify this sentence please ….
As an extension of that, you’ll also be able to spend glory and gold to purchase account-bound Tomes of Knowledge, which grant a level each and will allow you to level up any of your characters.
Should it be “glory and gold”, or “glory or gold”?
I mean can I buy them with just glory/gold or will it require both?
Yes, +12 has hit the API’s items list today.
This means that someone crafted it. +18 has yet to be seen on the items list. This means it hasn’t been crafted yet.
Incorrect. The GW2Tradingpost and other APIs like it list items that went through trade post, not just been crafted. There have been people with way way higher then the current +12 infusions listed since day 1 when patch hit. I am not one of them, but there are many. Understand please, I am in a guild of around 900-1000 people that is split into 2 due to max accounts allowed. 3 actually if you count our overflow which we use once in a while as we did hit 1300 at one time. We have a lot of people, many are casual players, but we also have some very hardcore people on various aspects of the game who give it their all.
No, he’s not incorrect. He’s not talking about the trading post “API” (which is not official), he’s talking about this … http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/API:1/items
Anything that hasn’t been discovered by a player yet will not show up in this API. it has nothing to do with the trading post.
Yes, +12 has hit the API’s items list today.
This means that someone crafted it. +18 has yet to be seen on the items list. This means it hasn’t been crafted yet.
That would mean Anet implemented it so that Infusions doesn’t actually exist as an item anywhere until someone have crafted it? kitten . That’s good Thanks for the info.
Any discoverable item will not appear in the API item listings until at least one person discovered it.
You can do the fire room instead of the turret room, in which case you do need to go in to the turret room but leave when you find the cooling rod.
The story mode requirement goes away once you finish it, and I believe will be removed entirely after these two weeks.
If you’re trying to solo it, don’t. It’s the same as the fractal you’ll get in “regular” mode and as such requires a group.
If you’re in a group with somebody who has already completed story you can skip it by having them start the instance.
That also assumes that you can reuse old infusions. I don’t know either way, but it would be possible that say you put a +4 in, you need two seperate +4s to make a +5. That would mean you need 3 of each, assuming you use one in your item and then CAN’T reuse it to make another one.
This is true. If you replace one of your +5s with a +6, you can’t use that +6 to make a +7.
So, just save your +1s until you get to the point where you actually need more AR.
To people with questions about overflow/queues … don’t think of this as the WvW overflow map … think of it as the overflow capable WvW map.
As I understand, it is a separate map you can join at any time, but it can spawn overflows so there’s no waiting (unlike with the other WvW maps).
What’s the difference?
I’ve bought the occasional gold or silver chest, but never really noticed any difference in what they produce.
I heard they can produce better crafting materials, but which ones are the better ones? Arcane Powder is the one I’m usually short on, so should I just get bronze chests or could I get more from the others?
Also … I guess there’s nothing I can do with excess arcane orbs now my collectibles is full? I make dyes every now and then, but powder is the limiting factor there.
Saving traits would be awesome. A-net, just start with saving traits. Don’t worry about equipment right now (that can come later), just let us save the traits.
For your excel file you should still be able to open it with either openoffice or google docs, both are free and you don’t even need to download anything for google.
I had a lot of fun with the choir bells. Hope they come back.
I would like to see a weekly WvW achievement category added that resets with the match reset.
Similar categories to the season would be ok, but I’d like to see some defensive ones added as well.
Could you please remove the Living Story UI from the top right of the screen once the meta is completed?
I just can’t see how this will work with unbalanced populations? It spawns new overflows when full? What if one side has 50 people and the other two have 5?
The only way I can see it work is if the overflow is common to all worlds (as pve overflows are) and sides are randomly assigned, or you get a chance to pick as in sPvP. Unfortunately from what I’ve read so far this appears not to be the case.
And, as it’s a selectable map it will spread out the lower pop server over 5 maps instead of 4. That just makes things worse ….
This is an exciting new thing, but it really needs to be divorced from the current match-up in order to work.
I’ve taken Stonemist 4 times in 14 months of WvW but have 4.9k objectives taken. The jump puzzles makes more sense for me than Stonemist does =P
Yup, I’m about the same. I’m more of a border map player than an EB player.
