New Borderland Map coming

in WvW

Posted by: Nabrok.9023

Nabrok.9023

Interesting …

My concern is that people might queue for EB and go to this map instead of trying a border map first.

Also, will the three sides on this map still be home-world based/set on the current match-up? In a match-up with one highly populated server against lower servers they could well end up with nobody from the other sides on. If it’s not homeworld based, will I still be able to get a party of friends together?

And what if the overflow overflows? I guess if it’s not homeworld based you would have people from the same server in different overflows.

JP in the wvw achievements

in WvW

Posted by: Nabrok.9023

Nabrok.9023

I was dismayed to see that they are part of the achievement and that it’s virtually impossible to avoid them.

I have a choice – forgo the ‘reward’ or waste my time on them. I’ll pass. Yet another disappointment.

There are 19 achievements, from which you need 15 for the reward. Only 4 are JPs so it is possible for you to get the reward without setting a foot in the JPs.

In theory – yes, it’s mathematically possible.

BUT – I assume this is per season and not a one-off? In which case the numbers become problematical – gain 50 ranks. Destroy 255 caravans, kill 500 enemy guards. capture 50 ruins etc. etc. Admittedly some are easy – 5 Stonemist captures is a joke ofc.

Flat-out WvW play at several hours a day (which is what I do) might make it – but I have doubts. Depends on how long a ‘Season’ is – a month? two? four? Surely not a year?

7 weeks.

Those numbers seem quite reasonable, and the border jumping puzzle is very easy, and each of the three identical ones counts as a different one.

It’s also possible they may have dailies that count towards the meta.

Guild Chat

in Suggestions

Posted by: Nabrok.9023

Nabrok.9023

The inability to see chat from guilds you are not representing is one of the biggest issues facing my guild today.

I think the ability to be in more than one guild is a fantastic feature, but a lot of its potential is lost due to this one omission.

Not being able to communicate with all of a guilds members who are online forces guilds to attempt representation percentage policies which are very difficult to implement due to the limited guild tools.

If we could simply read the chat for all guilds we are members of a lot of those policies would become unnecessary.

I have some hope that when the authenticated API is released (which is supposed to include access to guild chat) that we’ll be able to see chat for guilds we are not representing through a 3rd party program, but ideally we need this in-game. Not everybody has a 2nd monitor or wants to use an overlay.

If necessary it could be read-only, requiring a rep switch to actually talk. Chat text itself might be a slightly darker shade of gold and preceded with the guilds tag. EDIT: Ooh, just thought, right click on the tag for a context menu that allows you to switch rep.

Were I A-net boss for a day, I think this would be my #1 quality of life issue.

Pink Day in LA

Last year we had a cool Pink Day in LA organised by various volunteers on the servers- It was great community fun and the gem shop was not involved at all

I still have a pic of me and my husband- oh and I came last in the treasure hunt race
these other 2 a friend of mine took.

it would be really cool to do something like this again this year
It would be even better if Anet gave it a =1 too, what a good idea

Edit: ohhh the pink logo t-shirt gets my vote

It’s happening again this year.

Badges of Honor in Rank Chest

in WvW

Posted by: Nabrok.9023

Nabrok.9023

I got 3 rank chests last night, out of those I got a rare and a WXP consumable that gave me 3/4 of a rank.

Somebody else on the map got an ascended weapon chest.

From that limited sample I would say they have improved.

That sample is too limited

True, but it is encouraging that in 2 out of my 3 chests I got something better then the couple greens I usually get.

125 keeps for an ascended weapon

in Crafting

Posted by: Nabrok.9023

Nabrok.9023

Do you need loads of dragonite ore to make a weapon? IIve barely hit level 450 artificer and I have not looked at ascended recipes yet… But I keep seeing people have trouble finding it. Through regular play I have 10 stacks of dragonite ore, 7 stacks of empyreal fragments, and have been destroying dust, so I’m wondering how people are unable to find enough? Or do the recipes require loads of the stuff?

Wow, so you have taken atleast 500 keeps since ascended gear was released? That pretty sick mate. What server are you on?!?!

(The above is sarcasme. You are mixing in PvE, while OP is only talking about WWW)

Yeah, yeah, I see. Shame on me :p

You can look at it like: crafting a legendary weapon forces you to go into WvW for badges (well, before the achievement chests and IF you saved your badges). So if you want an ascended weapon, and PvE is the best place to find the materials, why wouldn’t you do that? I think ANet is trying to get people to move out into areas of the game that they normally wouldn’t bother with. Also someone above mentioned doing WvW jumping puzzles for empyreal fragments: I’ve done several JP’s in BL and EB and never got a single fragment.

To answer your earlier question it takes 500 of each T7 material to create one ascended weapon. This is for the Vision Crystal, you need 5 of each refined T7 (100 each) plus an item you buy for 20 skill points.

Empyreal also drops from supply camps and towers. The amount you get per camp is similar to the amount of dragonite you get per keep.

WvW is not the best means of getting empyreal, but you can flip camps and towers often enough that it’s not insignificant, and you could realistically gather the majority of what you need there, even if it would take a while, and you can throw an occasional dungeon or jumping puzzle in here and there to speed things up.

With dragonite though, flipping a keep is rare enough that any you gain this way is insignificant and your only realistic option is dedicating a few days to just doing world events.

125 keeps for an ascended weapon

in Crafting

Posted by: Nabrok.9023

Nabrok.9023

Run the temple events in Orr (lyssa, grenth, melandru, arah, balth). You get 30 or 35 dragonite from each of them. If you haven’t done them before, Lyssa and balth take the longest, the others take maybe 15-20 minutes or less depending when you get there.

I’m aware. The point is that I can get a good proportion of my empyreal through WvW (though most of it is from other sources), but the proportion of dragonite from wvw is negligible.

Nabrok.9023

The game centers around PvE so that will be the quickest way to get gear.

That’s fine. World events are obviously meant to be the primary way to get dragonite and I’m ok with that.

Dungeons and JPs are meant to be the primary way to get empyreal, but I’m ok with its drop rate in WvW. It doesn’t drop a lot, but you can flip camps and towers often enough that I don’t mind. A keep is a rare enough event that I think it deserves to have the dragonite rate reevaluated.

Rewards for winning

in WvW

Posted by: Nabrok.9023

Nabrok.9023

might be a dumb question but how do you get the scores by map?

It’s in the API.

Here’s a link to the wvw API output for the TC match right now … https://api.guildwars2.com/v1/wvw/match_details.json?match_id=1-2

This is all in JSON, designed to be read by programs rather than people, but it can still be read by a person. You’ll see something like …

“type”:“GreenHome”,“scores”:[ 3767,12313,40891 ]

The scores are in the order red server, blue server, green server.

Rewards for winning

in WvW

Posted by: Nabrok.9023

Nabrok.9023

It’s nice that we’re now starting to get rewards for winning in the form of a few extra rank chests.

One thing I find interesting is that the API returns a per-map score. I think it would be a good idea to reward winning at a map level as well as at the overall level. This would help servers with less coverage, as it’s a lot easier to cover one or two maps than all four.

As an example, i’m on TC … in my own match as of the time I write this the overall score is TC 139,036; SoS 78,528; DB 52,157.

TC is dominating, right?

But let’s take a look at SoS Border … SoS 28,262; TC 25,016, DB 5,186. It’s close but SoS is winning this map.

Even over on DB we have TC 25,358; DB 21,806; SoS 10,712. Yes, TC is winning here but there’s not a lot in it.

I think that working in per-map rewards will give lower coverage servers a decent chance at winning something other than the consolation prize of 1 bonus rank chest while still giving the overall winner a bigger prize.

Of course, if this were done the per-map scores would need to be presented in the in-game UI.

125 keeps for an ascended weapon

in Crafting

Posted by: Nabrok.9023

Nabrok.9023

Does that sound reasonable? Averaging 4 dragonite per keep lord (assuming you even get a hit in on the keep lord) it will take 125 keeps to gather the 500 needed to make one weapon.

In my entire time playing the game (since headstart) I have captured 260 keeps.

Fortunately I do occasionally do world events, otherwise I guess I’d have two ascended weapons in about a year.

I’m all for encouraging people to play different aspects of the game, but even so this seems a bit ridiculous.

Question about the colour match-ups

in WvW

Posted by: Nabrok.9023

Nabrok.9023

That was never the case. It was however always the highest ranked server that got the green spot before they changed the match-up system.

Nowadays it is completely random however.

It is not completely random, there is a random element. There is a difference.

It’s still based on rating, but a random score within a tolerance is added or subtracted from your rating.

Basically, instead of the system saying your rating X it says your rating is somewhere between X – Y and X + Y so we’ll give you a random number between those two for the purposes of picking your next match.

Scoring idea for leagues

in WvW

Posted by: Nabrok.9023

Nabrok.9023

Here’s a thought I had that I think is interesting.

So, we have leagues coming up, every world will play every other world in that league. The problem is the results are rather predictable … and as there will be some form of reward this is a huge incentive to transfer to a top tier server (even though we don’t know exactly what the reward is yet).

A lot of people throw out suggestions to adjust the match scoring by weighting it or providing a handicap given certain conditions, such as population imbalance or even just to benefit the losing world. I am opposed to any such measures, I think they’ll just lead to more inaccurate ratings and further imbalance.

The way the rating system works, basically, is that each world has a rating number and based on each worlds rating they are expected to hold a certain proportion of the overall score. If they exceed that proportion their rating goes up, if they do not meet it their rating goes down.

If the league could set a matches first, second, and third place based on rating gain/loss rather than overall score this would lead to greater unpredictability in the results and give lower servers a chance against higher servers.

For example, in the current NA matches the results as the scores currently stand would be:

  • Blackgate first, Jade Quarry second, Tarnished Coast third (same as score order)
  • Sanctum of Rall first, Fort Aspenwood second, Dragonbrand third (same as score order)
  • Borliss Pass first, Sea of Sorrows second, Crystal Desert third (BP gets a win instead of second)
  • Kaineng first, Maguuma second, Ehmry Bay third (Kaineng gets a win instead of last!)
  • Stormbluff Isle first, Northern Shiverpeaks second, Isle of Janthir third (SBI still wins but IoJ and NS swap places)
  • Yak’s Bend first, Sorrow’s Furnace second, Henge of Denravi third (same as score order)

One downside is there’s no current in-game indication of rating change and you have to visit a site like mos for live results or the leaderboards for last weeks results.

For a long year I played Guild Wars 2

in Living World

Posted by: Nabrok.9023

Nabrok.9023

1. Constantly amazes me that most people don’t realize that the lion’s share of the living story temporary content is in the game for a month. The stuff that is only in for 2 weeks is generally much shorter and easier to complete. Also, you may not have noticed but we haven’t had any truly temporary content since the jubilee (SAB is recurring) and the next patch won’t have much, if any.

2. What does it matter? Achievement rewards are nice, but ultimately it’s just a few percentage points of account bonuses and some mediocre weapon skins of which you got the ones you wanted with the first few and probably already have better ones anyway. It’s also not dailies versus all other points. A lot of them can be achieved simultaneously.

3. I certainly didn’t spend near 200g getting artificer from 400 to 500. That is the only one I’ve done so far, but I do have the other 2 at 425. For one thing, a lot of the guides don’t give you the cheapest way. Refining ori/ancient wood will get you to 425 and you’ll need a lot of it so it’s not wasted. Although discovering exotics gives you the most XP, you get XP from discovering any level, a level 15 blue won’t get you hardly anything, but a level 80 rare still gives a good chunk. As you’re more likely to have T5 mats on hand that can be a way to save some.

In addition, the prices are high because so many people are leveling their craft and making ascended weapons. When that slows down, prices will start to drop a bit.

4. You don’t have to do living story and you don’t have to do WvW. Just do whatever one you want to do most if you don’t have time for both.

5. People complain about alt support a lot, but this game really does offer a lot to people with multiple characters that other games don’t. Account-wide achievements and bonuses from them. Account-wide wallet storing most currencies. Account-wide magic find. Account-wide bank (some other games bank is only character). Account-wide guild membership (no alts taking up roster spots). WXP consumables are soon to be added which will allow you to spread out some of the WXP if you wish. There are no plans, even long-term, for another tier of gear.

I admit I was slightly disappointed with the birthday gift at first, but that was before I realized how awesome the birthday booster is. This is probably better for WvW players than others due to the WXP boost, but it is amazing and I am going to sorely miss it when I run through all 8 of the ones I have.

Fractals below your level gives a lot of karma (capping at 10 levels below), so if you are rank 28 then anything 18 or lower will give you max karma.

You can also use the karma infusion for +15% on an ascended amulet, food buffs, boosters and banners.

solo queue is just the worst system ever

in PvP

Posted by: Nabrok.9023

Nabrok.9023

the only way you can do better in solo queing is by syncing que with your friends and then if you end up in the opposite group, you quit so that your other team member can win the vice versa. well thats what at least what others i know do. thats why they on the top of the solo que ladder. but in reality those players suck, which falls back how broken solo que is. the fact that you can leave match at the beggining because you dont like the make up of your party without penalty is really bad. it makes others who love this game quit. i used to play tpvp a lot before they called it arena. because your chance of winning is way higher if you play good. now even if you play well you will surely lose because someone left in your team or decided to afk. now i play soloque to do my dailies. win or lose i dont care aslong i finihs my dailies. (i still play to win though) but without high hopes.

If you’re just doing it for your dailies, you might as well 5v5 hot join.

  • Joining in the middle of a match still counts, so you only need to play 2.5 games.
  • If people leave, other people can and do join to replace them.
  • No waiting between matches.

Maybe make the locker not hold the skins, but rather unlock them in the manner similar to achievement skin rewards.

I like this. And PvE needs the same.

Can a locker stack items?

in PvP

Posted by: Nabrok.9023

I don’t think I’d want large stacks of weapons/armor. I’d never know what to salvage. It’s easy now, just deposit all and salvage anything that didn’t go.

I guess a stack of 2 would be ok, perhaps just for weapons, for the reason Seisyll mentioned.

WvW: Season 1 vs PvE

If you aren’t on JQ, SOR, or BG then a PvE’ers wont make a lick of difference in WvW or the leagues….

Couldn’t be farther from the truth. Those PvErs are going to be looking for any decent guild out there to leech captures and get their Meta done. Lots of guilds run without tags and actively tell ‘Pugs’ to leave them alone because they rally other people. Happens now, will happen when this comes out.

Guess you didn’t get my joke…in the gold league of the top 12 servers, any server below the top 3 don’t stand a chance at winning the league, population differences is too extreme between each server. A few pve’ers aren’t going to be the “oh kitten deciding factor” in the number 7’s chances at winning the league, they weren’t even in the running from the beginning

Actually that is incorrect. T1 servers will beat each other up when in the same match-up, even if there is a 3rd non-T1 server, because they’ll be so focused on beating them in the points. Someone did a ‘mock up’ of the last 7 weeks (not an exact replica of results/matchups) but SoS won.

Lol @ the GvG reply..

got a link for that mockup, i’d be curious to see that.

It wouldn’t mean much. In the last 7 weeks the tier 1 servers have been mostly playing tier 1 servers. In the league they will be against lower servers more often. I guess it would be possible for a non tier 1 server to win if they can get consistent results and the tier 1 servers split wins among themselves when they are matched together.

They won’t win the overall league, but they have a chance of winning some of the matchups that don’t include a top 3 server. As I understand it, there’s rewards for winning those too.

Their actions don't follow their words

PvE players love their pets to do the work and take aggro for them, thus, those pets/minions will keep getting buffed.

That’s not exactly true. Most pet builds like spirit ranger or minion master are just not good in PvE at all, which is why they get buffed to make them more appealing for PvE.

The things that get buffed are the things that are not used, not the things which are used a lot.

Look ! Today we can see the new patch

Oh wait ? PvE dragon update, PvE seekgroup update, WvW runes update , PvE boss update…

But where is Spvp ? Like all update since 1 years, we are totaly ignored.

The LFG tool applies to PvP (and WvW) as well. It’s not just PvE.

Guide new players to hot joins

in PvP

I think new players should do tournaments. It’s unfortunate if a new player gets put in the same match as some really experienced players, but that’s a matchmaking/population problem, not his fault. I’d rather see new players in something other than loljoin because they’re more likely to stay and improve.

They’re not going to stay and improve when their introduction to the game is people telling them to “gtfo noob”.

They’ll play one or two games and never come back.

For all its faults, hot join is a place where you can play for a bit and nobody cares that much if you win or lose.

I do agree that 8v8s should be avoided at all costs, but 5v5s are fine.

Oh, also I’m not really talking about solo queue. I’m talking about team queue. You can still queue up for it by yourself.

Guide new players to hot joins

in PvP

I don’t think some of the really new players (<10 glory rank) even know what they are doing. They just join it not realizing it’s a rated tournament where a lot of the people in there care about winning. I think if they knew that hot join was a better place to “learn” (even though this really isn’t even true at all – which is a whole other problem) then they might not join tournaments and go learn how to play there class in hot join. These people often just run around the middle and have no concept of capturing points but are more focused on trying to fight people because their main goal is to figure out how to fight other players, which is reasonable for a brand new pvper I think – it just sucks for more experienced people to get stuck with them in rated matches.

Making video guides is fine, but I think a lot of these people don’t come to the forums or research things on the internet – they just go into the game where there is little information about what they should or should not be doing.

Exactly, these people are there because they found tournaments before they found hot joins. When I talk to them they are usually very apologetic and appreciative of somebody telling them where they should go.

We could argue on how well hot joins teach the game, but a 5v5 isn’t really all that different from a tournament match that isn’t two pre-mades, and it gives a place to learn class and builds as well as the game mechanics. Strategy and tactics can come later.

Guide new players to hot joins

in PvP

A few times I’ve noticed brand new players in team tournament matches. These are not second accounts but are self-admitted new players. The reaction of the rest of the team is usually very negative, involves swearing, and generally not a good introduction for the game.

Obviously there is cause to be miffed as these are ranked matches and nobody wants to be at such an obvious disadvantage. I try to be more helpful however, whispering these new players and directing them how to get to hot joins and maybe give them a few playing tips.

I shouldn’t really have to do that though, the game should do it. It should be made more clear that tournaments are ranked matches and more direction given to new players. Perhaps have a confirmation popup for any rank 1s attempting to join tournaments?

solo queue is just the worst system ever

We are definitely aware of the issues surrounding PvP. We’ve been generating data since we released these features and I think it’s fair to say that each will be visited by us as soon as we can get around to it. (matchmaking, decay, dishonored, ratings, rewards)

We have a lot on our plate but what you can expect to see soon is:

  • Random map rotation should be working appropriately for Team Arena
  • New amulets for PvP
  • Temple of the Silent Storm map layout re-work (took out the water)

We started a query today for the Random Map Rotation bug on Team Arenas as this bug should currently be fixed on live. Please let us know if you are still experiencing playing one specific map much more often then the others though if the issue arises again.

Thanks,
-Powerr

No … leave the water! It’s so funny when a thief chases my ranger into it.

CAN WE PLEASE JUST HAVE A 2V2 EVEN IF ITS CASUAL?

seriously I log on and there’s is nothing I can do, I play maybe a few times a month now because I have no reason to

Log on :

- check friends list.. ask a few people if they want to premade, nope not enough on
- don’t wan to solo que until matchmaking is fixed, even still it’s frustrating relying on 4 randoms AND you can’t try random classes / bad specs
- check friends list again.. oh someones in a hotjoin.. join for 5 minutes until I get bored
- join a duel game.. everyone’s just standing around akitteng

-log off

- check back in 5 hours
- repeat process
- don’t bother for a few days

The LFG tool is coming next week. That should make forming teams for tournaments easier. You’ll even be able to merge a 3 player group with a 2 player group.

You can still solo queue for teams right now. There’s probably a group of 4 out there somewhere that would appreciate it. I think when the LFG tool arrives, you’ll have to have a full party to queue, but you don’t at the moment.

I’m not sure the the LFG tool is for PvE only, you queue to the instance you wanna do and when there is enough ppl the grp is formed and off you go.

the LFG will not be available in PvP I believe.

No, it’s PvP as well. When solo queue was first introduced one of the devs mentioned that you could still join the team queue with partial groups, but when the LFG tool comes out you’ll need a full group.

Also, in the previews you could see a PvP section on it.
