Tarnished Coast – Dissentient [DIS]
All classes
In the meantime, can we go back to the experimental alternative method you had a while back? It was so much better.
I love how people say “do the math, there’s not much difference”… and then go ahead and compare Ascended with Exotic.
For WvWers, who don’t PvE, try comparing Ascended against Invaders for the real truth of how this gear affects WvW-only players.
I don’t PvE at all and I’m sickened at the thought of waiting until March or whenever it might be, before I can even think of catching up.
You buy the rare invaders with karma, but you can also buy more powerful exotic versions with badges. I apologize if you’re aware of this, but it’s not clear from your post.
I’d feel the same way if there were ascended items for every slot, but there aren’t. It’s 3 slots at the most … and even then most of the other primarily WvW people won’t have them either.
If I can compete with an upscaled level 15 alt, you can compete having 3 slots that don’t quite have the best stats in the game.
They will be punished after Friday.
When your server is green, go out and get all the points close to the green start points (and anything else your server owns). Then wait until you are blue or red and get those points.
It may take a while, but you’ll get it eventually.
While you’re there, why not join in … you might actually like it.
There is no ascended armor.
And who cares as long as it’s only rings and a backpack? When they add more items, they’ll add more ways to get them.
I was so close this morning …. logged in with my wife’s account to check it when I woke up, Tarnished Coast was at “Very High” … clicked it … “Network Problems”! Argh! Quickly logged back in, but it was too late.
There’s a small part of me hoping that guesting will come very soon, which would basically solve the problem as I don’t think my wife will be playing much WvW, but I really don’t want to build up high expectations for that.
New culling is better. Keep it.
I’m in the exact same situation as the OP (same server too). Been trying for more than a week to get this transfer done, checking the status at all different times of day and no luck.
We know the population caps are somewhat arbitrary because you made them all wide open for the invite a friend weekend thing. Can’t you just open it up a little higher?
All tarnished coast welcome to join us at 5:00 PM Eastern today (12/1) as we drive off the evil Fort Aspenwood and Yak’s Bend!
Nah, PvP has it’s own achievements. WvW kills encourages people to go into an area of the game they might not have otherwise, and they might find they like it.
Plus, 50 WvW kills only takes about 2 hours.
See that tick on the back item slot ?
That lets you hide it.
Huh? What? That wasn’t the point at all.
The point was to have a non-cosmetic version that costs less, like we have with exotics. There are different versions of exotics (same stats) and generally the cooler it looks the more expensive it is to acquire.
The thing is, WvW leveling can either be really fast or really slow depending on the situation. As opposing players are part of the equation there’s not a whole lot that can be done about that.
It doesn’t really matter though, as long as you have level appropriate gear the upscaling works really well (often better than a full 80 without exotics) and after level 30 all you’re missing is a few traits.
In keeping with the philosophy of reasonably obtainable stats with harder to obtain skins you could add a cheaper to forge ascended back item with no skin.
There are events at the end of which you can purchase orichalium gathering tools with karma. I did one of these with 3 people, not solo-able but a small group can handle it.
There are of course ori nodes (including rich ones, it was kind of funny when half our zerg peeled off in the middle of the fight to go and mine it).
I like that it’s less densely packed and has more mob variety than Cursed Shore.
They got the precursor, not the legendary. There is still a lot of work to do to turn it into the legendary (though getting the precursor is a huge chunk of it).
Name one melee-centric class that doesn’t have at least a 900 ranged option or two or three.
If you get confused, stop hitting and kite until the confusion wears off.
You’re welcome.
Thief.
Shortbow.
It’s great that so many got precursors, but with such a high drop rate that’s not 100% it feels like those who didn’t get one were really unlucky rather than those who did get one being really lucky.
They’ve already said that ascended gear will be available through WvW. Perhaps not for this update, but it will be eventually.
Also, just because a ring is a certain % increase over it’s exotic equivalent doesn’t mean other item types have the same increase.
I know plenty of players who only playg GW2 for the WvW. How would it be fair to them to close it down?
I mean we’ve just forced them into a gear grind that they DO NOT WANT (I mean even I am considering leaving Guild Wars 2 because of the Ascendant gear…) and were promised they would not be forced through, closing down WvW as well for a PvE event would be even more unfair.
It should be pointed out that A-net has stated that the ascended gear will be available though WvW at some point. It may not be for these first few items (which is only rings and backpack), but eventually they will be.
We now have the daily and monthly PvP achievements, that’s great for the PvP players. It would be very nice to have a similar option for WvW but have it be weekly so it ties in with the current match.
When the enemy is downed, you have not won the fight yet. You have a big advantage as the enemy is immobile (unless underwater) and very limited in abilities, but it’s not over.
All the ideas (to make GW2 like DAoC…) are great but you have to consider right now WvW is so popular (queues…) that it doesnt need more carrot to make players participate.
Bigger maps could be could but you also have to consider bigger would mean more plaers, more players would mean more trouble to fix lag/clipping (it its even possible).I think the solution would be more maps.
Queues are not really a problem outside of tier 1.
Remember that once you have selected a home world you don’t ever have to queue for it, you can play any time and go to overflow if too many are in a specific area.
This means that the number of people actually on the world could be way over whatever limit they set for creating new accounts. Even if you have 100s of people logging out at once it still may not affect the full status.
It’s tricky getting into a full server, but if you keep checking frequently, particularly during off-peak hours or right after a patch you can get in.
Well, this is going to get lost in the avalanche, but please A-net reconsider this.
First step would be to drop the ascended gear stats back to exotic levels. Second step would be to allow all existing exotics to become infused.
I don’t want to have to do one specific thing to get the best gear. The great thing about exotics is all the different way to obtain them. Neither do I want to carry around another set of gear for a specific purpose.
Arena Net … please … give us some clarification here. People are freaking out.
Just as CD started attacking the inner gate of SM, someone bought the patrols upgrade, using up 2000 supply leaving us with only 400.
That would be your usual spy/infiltrator activity. SoR did the same thing last week to our keep, and I have no doubt there are individuals on TC who will transfer an alt to an opposing server and do the same thing. You can generally tell by the timing of the (relatively valueless) upgrade.
Just FYI, it’s not possible to transfer just an alt. You transfer all of your characters at once, you can’t just transfer one.
It may have been a bug, but it was fun.
I’m not suggesting making that rate permanent, but you could have things like double dye drop weekends. Not every weekend obviously, but every now and then.
It doesn’t always have to be with dyes either.
I think a more reasonable and likely to happen request would be to put the WvW map on a web page.
Make orbs apply to PvE as well. I don’t care if they swap with out-manned bonus or not, but if they do that might work even better.
That way, if somebody types in guild chat or even Lion’s Arch that we’re about to lose/take an orb it actually has some meaning.
This change should not be made until free transfers have ended.
I think the real problem is that they made getting badges of honor required for legendaries, seeing I hate pvp I just run the jumping puzzle nacked to get the badges without having to fight anyone, and I know I’m taking up slots of people that actually want to help and contribute but I’m just making the most of the system Anet set up… if I didn’t need the badges I wouldn’t be there.
Only do the jumping puzzle when there is no queue. That way you’re not taking up a spot for somebody who wants to fight.
Needlessly complex. Just have it so when you are dead you can only see the map. Possibly allow a brief period of time (30 – 60 seconds) before it switches to map only.
Plenty of hacking going on from DH and YB as well, possibly more but it’s often more obvious when you are the victim rather than the beneficiary. All servers have hackers.
Can’t commit much on badges- except that I’m having a tough time collecting any. It’s rarely who kills the mob; but who plants the stake. So you can run with a zerg never attacking anyone and just be first to plant the flag… and you get badges.
Are you talking about the finish move? That has nothing to do with badges. I never finish anyone, especially in a zerg. It’s a waste of time, auto-attacking is faster, and I get plenty of badges.
1. Do people just not see the WvW tab under achievements?
2. Don’t want my name to be seen, don’t want to see enemy names. Guild tags and names are sufficient.
3. Loot is fine. Sometimes you get a trash trophy, sometimes you get a rare. There’s enough to cover costs and then some, so it’s fine. Full auto-loot would be nice though.
4. Sure, why not?
Well, I’m not sure what’s going on with Janthir, but you have to bear in mind that Denravi was abandoned by all of its WvW players. It’s just taking a while for it to fall down the rankings.
Kill sentries and yaks when you can (1s each I think).
Complete your daily achievements, all of which can be done in WvW (5s).
Related to the above, you can sell the materials gathered if you’re not interested in crafting.
Loot. Get in the habit of pressing F as soon as you see that yellow splash. Sell any blues and greens.
Learn the border jump puzzle. Do it in off-peak hours, and never when there’s a queue. This will give you free siege, badges, and more blues/greens to sell. Once you know it, it can be done in a few minutes.
Buy siege with badges, not coin (2nd tab).
You’re not going to make a lot of money, but it should be enough to come out ahead.
One minute or so after being killed, the screen should go to the map and stay there until you are resurrected or you use a waypoint.
Seriously? This is the easiest monthly achievement to get. One Friday night and it’s done. If anything, the count should be increased.
Ok, so you get the gifts and then what? Have any rich players delved beyond making the gift part to figure out the actual way to make the weapon or is it not worth the time? Lol.
What you get from the mystic forge is a recipe for the gift. You need a 400 artificer, huntsman, or weaponsmith to learn the recipe. Well, anybody can learn it, but you need 400 to then craft it.
Once you’ve created the gift from the recipe I believe it works like any other insignia.
The GW philosophy has always been to give players what they need easily, but make the cosmetics more difficult. This is no exception.
If you just want a bit of seasonal flavor, that’s what the temporary weapons are for.
Thanks for the replies! But I meant the Rare Event items, i.e. Nougat Centers, Chattering Skulls and the third one. Is it known which rare to use to create which Gift? Afaik the recipe is:
250 candy corn + 40 E. wine + 10 crystalline dust + 100 Rare Event item.
E.g., which rare item (x100) is used to create the Staff?
Staffs are made by artificers. I think the Nougat Centers are artificer components, therefore the nougat centers create the gift of souls recipe which can be used by artificers.
EDIT: Thanks to mekalus for the correction.
(edited by Nabrok.9023)
So does anyone know which event item (of the 3) create what gift? Thanks
Look at what profession it’s for (you can also discover sigils with them). So for example you’d need the artisan component to make the gift needed for the staff.
You only need to gather the corn and the rares this week. You can use them with the other components in the mystic forge at any time.
In the end people are still complaining about a “skin”
No, they’re not. The craftable weapons are level 80 exotic weapons with level 80 exotic stats.
And there are plenty of affordable level 80 exotics you can get. So yes, it is just a skin.
Just a friendly reminder, this event has only just begun.
With as many materials that are required to obtain in such a small window of time, this event is already over in my opinion.
You only need the corn and the rares. You can use them in the forge to create the gift recipes at any time.
So to get the rare craft mats from halloween, that you need 100 for the skins, you need to hunt at least 500 different doors considering the spawn decreased, the loot rate is low and worse, the anti farming code kicks every 30 minutes. “no grinding”.
No, you can get them from treat bags which you can get in many places. I got a lot of them from mining candy corn nodes. I heard you can even get them from Dolyak’s in WvW.
If you want seasonal flavor, that’s what the very cheap temporary weapons are for. The 4 hours they last is time you are logged on, not just 4 hours from when you buy it.
If you want your permanent weapon that you use all the time to look like that, then you have to work a little more for it. But remember, all you need to get during this event is the 250 candy corn plus 100 of the rare components you need for your desired gift.
Look at the professions listed on the rare components, that should indicate what weapon/gift it is for (i.e. artisan for the staff, huntsman for the shortbow, and weaponsmith for the shield).
The temporary weapons are cheap, and you even have the option of not paying gold for them.
If you just want some seasonal flavor, these are the weapons to use.
If you want a permanent weapon, you have to work for it.
People seem to think that because they said you don’t have to grind in GW2 that there is no grind in it. Nobody ever said this. You can get all the stats you need on exotics quite easily (no grind needed), but if you want totally optional aesthetics that’s where the grind comes in.
As cappy mentioned, you can learn the recipe at any time (assuming it is purchased rather than discovered).
It was mentioned by a dev somewhere that they are exotics, which means you will need 400 in the craft to make them.
I thought costumes would follow their usual “Mystery Tonic” or “Knavish Tonic” sort of approach, be consumables rather than equippables.
I think there will be both.
