Yeah, wvw is down again (all of it, not just the API). I suppose this time it might be on purpose for the impending patch.
No, a week is good.
24 hours or even a weekend/weekday split doesn’t work because some servers are stronger on certain days, so you need a week to get an accurate picture.
Also, I remember the frequent resets after launch and they kind of sucked. Nobody wanted to upgrade anything because what’s the point?
The original intention was for two week matches if I recall correctly, I do agree that would be to long and I’m glad they decided not to do that.

Ah but this would be a mistake. A server at a vast rating disadvantage (to use your example, a 10 Seed versus a 20 Seed, it makes little sense to use tiers now that there is match-to-match mobility) can come out ahead in rating even if it scores less than 0.5 of the points against the higher rated server. That is, there is also pressure on the 10 Seeded server to dominate the match; if the 20 Seeded server is able to put up enough of a struggle (gaining valuable experience against a better team, as well) it might be able to move up a spot—19th Seed. This is the motor behind rank mobility with the newer system.
This guy gets it.
Lower seeded servers could still gain rating even while getting blown out. The math would then re-adjust the following week with higher probability of finding accurate matches in the newly-adjusted rating spread.
Essentially, this should fix glicko’s tendency to only absorb rating points from within your own tier and lead to much more volatility in the positions.
You can see this right now on Riverside/Piken Square/Gunnar’s Hold.
Gunnar’s Hold is lowest rated and expected to lose. At the moment, they are … but if the match were to end right now their rating would go up 68 points, mostly at the expense of Piken.
Basically they aren’t losing as badly as their rating suggests they would, and Piken is not winning by as much as they should.
Of course it’s early days yet.
Sounds like the devs are waiting for a final match score to determine the ratings for next week. Might be nice to base the matchmaking ratings based on the scores at, for example, midnight Thursday PST while keeping Friday relevant by including it in a final rating. Might sound a little confusing, but trust me, there are enough clever people on every server to figure out even the most insanely complicated scoring scheme. And the tiny amount the rating might change on Friday should be drowned out by the RNG roll.
Just an option for those wanting to know the match-ups in advance.
If the random portion of the calculation for each server was released (the -1.0 to 1.0 part) on, say, Thursday night it would allow people to calculate their new match rating and plan accordingly.
At the same time that should be short enough notice to prevent anybody from trying to game the system.
There will be good commanders and bad commanders, no matter how the tome is purchased.

Well, you’re forgetting (or not mentioning) that each camp upgrade increases the maximum supply held by the camp, up to 250 total.
Also, if you flip a camp that you don’t expect to hold and your group is already full on supply, hiring caravan guards is a very cheap and quick way to deny that supply to the enemy when they take the camp back.
From what I saw on the suggestions board on this topic was, that it is very well wanted.
But I do agree, this is one of the many issues the GW2 Guild System has, it is imo one of the worst i’ve seen in an MMORPG so far.
but on a side note, if people aren’t active (im now talking about people not logging for 2+ weeks of sudden disappearance), they dont need to take a slot in a guild anyways :P
That is also misleading, nobody(or very few people) is going to be spamming the suggestions section with piles of “please don’t change X” posts.
Anyway a last online is fairly useless for what you described. You need a last represent. Then you need a how long where they representing.

But someone that is not representing but active can be talked to to figure out the nature of his nonrepresenting, while someone that is not active cannot be talked.After all, as kaspi said already, it should be up to the guildleaders how they want to manage their roster and the rules for their guild. So giving out this information would be essential and I personally see no reason why it should be denied?
also the representing might be more missleading than the last online. Last online is really something to clearly say: okay this guy is not active he does not need to be in a guild.
a “guild_roster.json” with guild_id as required input should give out these informations:
- Account Name (string)
- Rank (string)
- last online (dd.mm.yyyy)
- last representing (dd.mm.yyyy)that information of course only authenticated and accessable if your accountname is listed on the roster.
Tough i’m not sure about the last representing, I think that might be enough to give a boolean wether he’s representing (= 1) or not (= 0) at the time the “last online” was recorded.
It should return current status (offline, online, away, lfg), a representing flag, and current location as well.
Possibly also the other character information visible on the in-game roster (character name, class, crafting professions, achievement points), though that could possibly be from another API call with account name as a parameter.
They did however, take the time to condense the stats on the Ascended gear – something I’m not even aware of anyone asking for…
I never said anything about it, but it did kind of bug me.
Trek and Bounty would be difficult, but we did both puzzles without referring to dulfy.
The trickiest bit was probably the curtains.
This has gotten beyond ridiculous. I’ve lost count of the number of patches that have passed since these items were confirmed to be added “in the next batch.” So, is this incoming? Or has this been forgotten about completely, because quite frankly, everyone has assumed the latter given the time elapsed.

I’m sorry, the moment somebody uses “u” instead of “you” it just makes me want to dismiss the entire post.
I thought it was common knowledge now that last online can more or less be determined from the achievements leaderboard? ok, not quite last online but last time an achievement point was earned (and you can barely sneeze in this game without completing part of the dailies).
We’re using this information to find the 100 or so guild members we have that haven’t logged in since they started tracking for the leaderboards or within a few months.
It’s not instant kick, we set them to an inactive rank first, and if we see them online promote them out of it. Just in case there are some people who manage to play without accidentally stumbling over an achievement point. After a couple weeks we remove anybody still inactive.
Anyway, for a proper API, last online would be nice, but if absent it could be determined by querying status at regular intervals. A representing flag would be nice too. Somebody may be online 10 hours a day, but if they never rep they might as well be offline. Last represented is more useful than last online.
it’s actually a really good idea to make the timer a bit higher than the intended refresh rate, but certainly not one that should prevent the current fix from going out as scheduled.
along the same lines, do the jumping puzzle chests reset at the same time every day, or do they reset 24 hours after you last looted? (I don’t know, because I don’t do the jumping puzzle very often). but if it’s the latter they should change it to 23 hours 45 minutes, so you can do the jumping puzzle the same time every day.

Ah yes, showing individual members’ influence gain. I’m looking forward to some kicking related drama this will eventually generate in those elite guilds
That’s not available in-game, it’s not going to be available via the API.

You need 5/9 daily achievements to get a laurel.
2 of the 9 are WvW specific.
1 is always gathering, which can be done on any map, even WvW ones. Maybe pick up some sentry duty and get it done at the same time?
That leaves you with 2 you have to pick from the remaining 6. A lot of those are easy to do in WvW (dodges, condition removal, condition applier, veteran slayer, kills, kill variety, leveler). Some of the others you can’t do in WvW but take less than a minute (visit laurel vendor, spend karma, mystic forge – make some sup. siege!).
And to add to that they are adding even more WvW specific ways to gain laurels.
Honestly, it’s really not that much of a hardship.

There’s probably more people than you realize that buy gems with real money.
I’ve probably spent more on gems than I would have on subscription fees.
See, I feel your anguish. From the first day of the patch, after reading about the PvP version of the new gloves and finding out they drop from the tournie chest, I played tournies only, every day. Got both heavy and the medium ones and that’s all, yay (I’m ele only). And now we’re left with squat, like we didn’t even log in. RNG must be removed from such crucial rewards. I get that they want to make us play and to keep us motivated but adding RNG, like you said yourself, as an only source of the given reward is insanity. Would like to see this fixed.
Crucial rewards? It’s a skin.
Not only that, it’s a skin nobody looking at your character will even notice.
It is gambling and you have to approach it as such. That is, you say to yourself “I have this much money to throw away, let’s see what I get with it.” … and then you DON’T spend any more.
Personally I decided to buy 15 keys. I didn’t get the skin with that, oh well. However, a few days later I got a key doing map completion and I got one with that, yay.
Some people seem to be mistaken about what the change really is about.
If the keep is under attack, the waypoint will be contested 30 sec BEFORE the white swords show up, and after the 3 min event-window have passed you have the exact same time you had before this patch, 1-2 sec, before the waypoint gets contested again.
And so it begins, Golem Wars 2.
This is not the case, you have 30 seconds in which you can use the waypoint.
The WP auto contests when tagged but the white swords don’t trigger on the keep for 30seconds. I.e the Keep wp is useless once its tagged.
I haven’t been in WvW yet, but my guildmates tell that this is not the case and that they can use the waypoint for those 30 seconds.
Meaning that every 3 minutes they get a free 30 seconds to port in.

I find this patch note to be very unclear. Possibilities …
1. White crossed swords don’t show for 30 seconds, waypoint can be used until the swords show.
2. No change to waypoint usage, you can’t use it even though there’s not white swords showing yet.
3. You can always use the waypoint, white swords or no.
1 or 2 seems most likely, I think maybe 2? 3 seems very unlikely.
Also, I assume this only applies to white swords, orange swords will continue to show immediately as long as 25 or more people are involved.

It should also have a larger ranger, or just not go on CD if there is nobody in range. Nothing worse than hitting it and your pet just stands there because you were slightly too far away.
Yes, if this is not a PvP only change I don’t see myself equiping this again.

A dev stated they never intended for pre-scouting to be a strategy. I believe he even went on to say they are changing some mechanics to make it so you can’t pre-scout.
All they need to do is add more targets, which I’m sure they will. Three have already been added and I expect more.
The more potential targets there are, the less viable pre-scouting becomes.
We’re still pre-scouting at the moment, but when we have enough merits to unlock puzzle in a few weeks, I think we may scale back and just run a T1 or T2 and not pre-scout.
And it wasn’t just BT and friends vs DIS. DIS also had PiNK, TSP, and other friends.
There were a few from those guilds and others keeping us company but no commanders. The numbers ruprect gave included them.
Hey now guys, let’s be civil here. DIS got to take the tower so they win. BT and friends got to wipe DIS about 12 times in the process so we win. Everyone wins!

That could be good, but I think a ladder system (where you challenge a team above you and if you win you take their place) might be better as it accommodates teams leaving and joining at any time a lot easier.
Doesn’t matter, and you don’t need to guest there. sPvP is regional. Only the mists staging area is on your home server.
I expect this won’t be there in the upcoming patch, but is there any chance of adding keg brawl as a map option in the custom arenas?
There have been lots of times we’d like to have had an intra-guild keg brawl match but this is impossible to do with the current system.
On the same note, when you have the other game types at halloween and wintersday it would be nice if those were available too. Basically any activity in which I’m wearing my sPvP armor.
We are looking into what it will take to split the times out on a per region basis and we’ll do everything we can to make that the case as soon as possible. In the meantime, this change will make things better for European players, who have been dealing with a very inconvenient time since launch.
Why not move it even earlier Devon?
Midnight isn’t a great time for the EU and it’s going to destroy any hopes of Guilds able to get in together in NA. Move it back another 4 Hours and EU can play in Primetime and the initial “Reset Rush” might actually thin a bit by the time NA gets home from school/off work.
Agreed. An earlier time will benefit both EU and NA until separate times is a possibility.

So … assuming the worst and anet does not separate reset times for NA and EU … this is going to be even worse when DST ends.

Alright. So EU have been the “victim” in this situation for 8 months. And it was alright. But now that the US get somewhat effected by it, it is the worst thing that could happen more or less? Seriously?
Now my math might be off but I am quite sure that the new time will not be in the middle of the night in the US (which have been the case for EU since release)
No, just the middle or very end of the work day.
I’m not denying late night resets are a problem. I’m saying a better solution should have been found, even if it’s a temporary Saturday reset.
The priority should be separate reset times. Friday evening is a very good time for a reset as it gives the entire weekend to play a new match, the goal should be to provide that for as many people as possible.
While that isn’t possible Saturday is a better option. I’d even suggest 9 AM Pacific/Noon Eastern/5 PM UTC/7 PM CET.
Wait a bit, so… Is this WvW only or will it change daily/monthly server resets too?
If you can remember back to the very first time we had a week-long match the wvw reset was not in sync with the daily reset. They changed it so they would be at the same time.
Also, the WvW reset does not appear to be entirely automated as it usually takes 15-20 minutes for it to actually go through and the time varies from week to week.
Problem with a Saturday reset is the matches are usually decided 48 – 72 before the reset anyways making the final days pointless in the final score. Which would make friday night (high play time) pointless.
I am all for making it easier for EU players to be on at reset, but like I said before all this is, is a bandaid since ANET seems to be unable to (for whatever reasons) separate EU and NA.
As it is for me if i don’t get in right at reset I might as well go get wasted since the Q times are usually 2 – 3hrs.
Tarnished Coast begs to differ, but I do get your point.
The ideal solution is separate reset times, but I think a Saturday reset is a better compromise until that is possible.
Perhaps a better idea might be to place the reset on Saturday rather then Friday. I think that time, and perhaps even earlier, would work on a Saturday.
Another idea would be just to move it back one hour, which makes it exactly the same as it was before daylight savings.

I would say that midnight on a day where most people don’t have work or school the next day is a LOT more convenient than right in the middle of work/school.
Please reconsider this until you find a way to separate the reset times.
I’m hoping there was a conversation like this …
WvW Dept: “Hey server guys! Can we do EU and NA resets at different times?”
Server Dept: “Nope. Sorry.”
Boss: “Hi server guys, this is important, can you figure out a way to make it happen?”
Server Dept: “Sure.”
If not, we’ve just lost most of our west coast and a good chunk of our east coast at reset.

They are more useful now that you can get stats other than Invaders/Soldiers with them.
Not really, you still pay half the crafting cost of an item, so if you have some mats saved up, your better off going with crafting, If they made those items cost ‘just’ badges then yes I would agree.
But if you have “useless” badges saved up then, as you say, it’s half the cost.
They also have rabid stats which are not craftable and not 100% available with karma.
