Aren’t you ALWAYS red in WvW? I was under the impression that it changed your UI to reflect that, no matter which server you were on. So, your server is always first on the list, under Red. Then your first opponent is in the Green, and your second opponent is in the Blue.

Is this incorrect? Because I can’t remember a single instance of being in WvW where I wasn’t red.

Nope. Desolation is blue atm. Which is where i am stationed. Colour changes randomly when the rounds do. You might just be having a red period.

It’s every single time I’ve been in WvW over the last six months, and I play sporadically. So… hell of a timing thing, then.

He said randomly, and there is a random element, but it is not entirely random.

Each server has a rating. When matches are determined a random number within a certain range is added or subtracted from that rating. The servers are then sorted by that number and that’s the new match-ups. Highest number is green, middle is blue, lowest is red.

That’s how it works off-season anyway, in-season it goes by your standing in the tournament or then straight rating (no random element) if it’s tied.

[Crafting UI] Ingredients cannot be inspected

It is intended that if you do not have a recipe unlocked, you cannot view it using the new inspect button.

Sounds like many people have their armorsmith and leatherworker showing this issue. Thanks for the reports! I’m working on a fix for this.

I should also mention that when I was creating the back items on my jeweler it did show the view recipe button for iron/steel/darksteel ingots, even though jewelers can’t make those.

[Crafting UI] Ingredients cannot be inspected

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Nabrok.9023

A bug has surfaced which prevents certain base ingredients from being viewed via the new ‘View Recipe’ button. This isn’t happening for everyone, or even every discipline. So far the only affected account known is mine ( boo :[ ) and only on armorsmithing recipes. Any casing or lining recipe below deldrimor cannot be inspecting when viewing those ingredients from another recipe.

Does anyone else have this issue presenting on their character?
If so, what crafting disciplines do you have on your character?
How long ago did you install GW2?

Yes!

I noticed this completing my masterwork/fine and rare armor crafting collections yesterday.

Everything was ok on my tailor, but I did not see the view recipe button for the components on my armorsmith or leatherworker. The insgnia view recipe button did work, but not for the other components.

My armorsmiths other trade is jeweler.
My leatherworkers other trade is huntsman.
My tailors other trade is artificer.

Played since launch, but only had this computer about a year and a half maybe, so I guess that’s how long ago I installed.

Content Guide in Dry Top

In Dry Top the content guide constantly wants to point you towards the scouts, even after you have spoken with them.

I checked in Orr as well, as the scouts there also don’t disappear from the map after you talk to them like they do in most maps, but it seems that they work correctly here for the content guide, it’s just Dry Top that seems to have this problem.

Not Quite. Allow equal attachment to each guild I am in. Give my influence I earn equally to each guild. Give me the ability to view the guild chat of each guild (similar to alliances in gw1).

Interesting idea on the influence, I like it but it might be a bit more complicated than it seems.

For instance, the amount of influence you earn isn’t fixed but depends on the number of guild members around you doing the same thing. For example if only one guild member does an event you get 2 influence. If two or more members are doing the same event (in party or not) you get 20.

I see a variety of comments on feeling more attachment to a specific guild and a lot of talk of the # of guilds people are a part of and the fear that is causing a lack of attachment. This lack of attachment keeps players players from being compelled to belong to any of their guilds instead of being compelled to belong to all of them

With all due respect Mr. Peters,

I believe the ability to join multiple guilds on this game is should not have existed at all. Very simply, it discourages guild loyalty and defeats the entire purpose of joining a guild in the first place.

Guilds are supposed to be a dedicated, close knit group of people. An ideal scenario would be a flourishing, active community in-game AND outside of the game, supported by communication programs such as IRC/forums/voice. The system now? Guilds having half the people not representing. Highly inactive/non-existent offsite interaction. Guilds are typically a hi-bye affair in the game.

People who say “I represent this guild today for WvW, then that guild tomorrow for PvE”this isn’t how guilds are supposed to work. In my opinion anyway. Guilds are groups where people do different things together – not a “I come as I like” place. People who represent different guilds on different days as and when they like are akin to clan-hoppers.

But obviously, this isn’t just the fault of guild hoppers alone. The guild system design in this game is absolutely sub par – you want people to know as many different groups of people as possible, but do not allow players to participate in the chat of guilds they are not representing. This, to me is the biggest problem about the guild system, because it renders useless the participation of a player, simply because he/she does not know what is happening in other guilds.

I respect your decision to give people the ability to join multiple guilds, but I still believe it was a wrong one.

I can understand where this is coming from. I have played many MMORPGs which adapt the one guild per character system. So, basically, players will put their main characters in the main guild. Not only that, guilds in some MMORPGs have very limited slots. So, their alts might not even be allowed in the guild.

The players belonging to those guilds are much closer to each other in comparison to the players in Guild Wars 2. Perhaps, players are forced to interact with each other and these forceful interactions breed meaningful interactions.

Sadly, in guild wars 2, I have observed that many guilds are being treated like a service or running like a service provider while players are just numbers to perform certain activities. This type of guild is pretty meaningless, dull, uninteresting and pointless.

Some people might think that this is just a game and doesn’t have to get that serious into it; attachment, sense of belonging, loyalty, pride, etc. However, I think that a game can only be truly fun and interesting if people get that serious into it.

Great points here and I think what I am hinting at is that if there was a way to maintain the current guild functionality of multiple guilds but also add a way to really commit to a singular guild what are the features old and new that you think are important for your basic guilds vs you, for lack of a better term, “home” guild.

Jon

A primary guild for one person may not be the primary guild for another. We already have a way to commit to one guild. Those who choose to rep 99% of the time in my guild get a rank with a few extra privileges. I don’t see a need for more mechanics here.

We just need to see guild chat so that we know what a guild is doing.

Sure, we can go through and whisper all the non-repping members, but this is cumbersome and doesn’t work that well for "hey, I just jumped into BG BL, anyone want to join me?‘. They also don’t get to see the “flavor” of the guild through the general guild banter.

Guild loyalty/participation first comes from guild communication.

Also wanted to say a good way to think about a feature and losing or changing it i s to think of it in these terms.

Is this a feature I MUST have, SHOULD have, COULD have, or DON’T have to have. It’s easy to want everything but difficult to recognize which category something actually falls into for the good of the game in general.

I really think we’re going off on the wrong track here. We shouldn’t be talking about taking things away from guilds, or trying to justify keeping features.

I mean, the only thing my guild has that it doesn’t really need is the world event stuff, but is there anything to be gained by taking that away? I don’t think so.

The problem is not that people are in too many guilds, the problem is that people don’t know what’s happening in the guilds they are members of.

Idea for 4v5s

in PvP

Nabrok.9023

allow team with less players vote out 1 player from enemy team to compensate.

Nah, they could pick out who they view as the strongest player whereas the out-numbering team has no such option. Could easily be exploited by having a member intentionally disconnect and then everybody votes off whoever is strongest on the other team.

Also, what if the 5th player reconnects? It happens sometimes.

Disabling respawn until the sides are even seems like a better solution.

I see a variety of comments on feeling more attachment to a specific guild and a lot of talk of the # of guilds people are a part of and the fear that is causing a lack of attachment. This lack of attachment keeps players players from being compelled to belong to any of their guilds instead of being compelled to belong to all of them (which was the original intention of this design of guilds as more social groups rather than as exclusive cliques).

I’d love to see some discussion on how we could create greater attachment to a single guild without taking away the current value of membership in multiple guilds.

I think that involves some discussion of the following.

1) What is currently a part of being in a guild that can’t be taken away, and why would it be bad to take it away?
2) Is there anything that is currently part of being in a guild that could be taken away and given to a more focused guild association? What could we do to mitigate some of the negativity of taking away current functionality? For example replace it on all guilds or enhance it for the one guild that it is tied to?
3) What kind of features are there that don’t even exist yet that would really only make sense with a more fixed association with a single guild?

A lot of good design discussions come from answering these questions anyway which I would summarize as what can/can’t we take away? What can/can’t we change? What can/can’t we add? I ask them in that order because it’s generally the order that they are easiest to implement in.

Jon

I already put this in a formally phrased proposal so I won’t do that again, but I will re-iterate … viewing guild chat when not repping.

I can’t stress enough how important this is, and that one thing will fix many of the issues people have with guild loyalty and membership.

Speaking isn’t even that important. You can require a rep change to speak in guild chat if you need, but being able to see it is extremely important.

People need to know that the guild is active and doing something.

In other games you join guilds not by account but by character. Guild Wars 2 system is much better, no need to worry about inviting your alts or having “80” people in a guild but it’s really just 10 people with 8 alts. The one downside is that some people liked to be in one guild on one character and another guild with a different character, this is addressed by allowing you to join multiple guilds, but the whole system is let down by this one omission.

Not being able to see when the guild is active leads to players creating representation policies, which I view as completely against the spirit of the system.

A guild is a community. It can not be a community if half (or more) of the members never hear what is said.

Nabrok.9023

This is a big problem in solo queue, whether you start the game short-handed or somebody leaves in the middle, be it through rage quit or disconnect.

So, my idea is … if you outnumber the other team, you can’t respawn. Respawns would be queued up.

For example players A, B, C, D, and E are on blue and outnumber red. Red still manages to kill A. A will not be able to respawn for now.

If the 5th red player manages to reconnect, A will respawn.

If red kills player B, player A will now respawn and B will be locked.

It would kind of suck for the locked player, but not as much as it sucks being outnumbered.

Nabrok.9023

Proposal Overview

  • Improve communication between guild members
  • Ease managing guild missions

Goal of Proposal

  • Guild members can not view guild chat when they are not representing the guild. This can cause a vicious circle of people not talking because nobody is repping and people not repping because nobody is talking. This can be a very difficult barrier for a small guild to overcome. Additionally it causes guilds to instate rep policies, which I believe go against the spirit of the multi-guild system.
  • Officers need a place to discuss issues privately and a party is not always a good option.
  • Guild missions require switching between two tabs (upgrades and missions) in the guild UI.

Proposal Functionality

  • Allow non-repping members to still see chat, perhaps in a darker shade of the gold color. Prefex chat messages with the guild tag and add a context menu to the tag that will show the full name (in case of multiple guilds with same tag) and allow a quick a representation change.
  • Add an officer chat channel and permission that can be assigned to certain ranks.
  • Allow guild missions to be activated from the guild missions tab.

Associated Risks

  • None

Simple Commander-GUI overhaul

in WvW

Posted by: Nabrok.9023

Nabrok.9023

Which reminds me of one other feature I forgot to mention before. Some months ago map pings (Shift+Left-click) and strokes (Shift+Left-click-and-drag) were updated. In addition to the usual behavior of those being sent to party members, when a commander does them, they’re also sent to members of their squad.

I didn’t know that one, nice. However, the problem is that very few people actually join the squad. Personally, I usually only do so if I want the other tags hidden, which will probably happen even less often now that we can have different colors.

On the other side, adding new features to squads giving people more reason to join them is great, but raises the possibility of wanting to be in a squad for those features but still see any other tags on the map, so that should probably be an option.

I’ve heard that a few of the devs played DAoC, perhaps you remember the battle chat system there? In particular I’m talking about the feature that allowed you to view who was in the squad, what groups they were in, what people NOT in the squad were also in those groups, and who didn’t have a group at all. Add class information to that so the commander can quickly see composition and it would be awesome.

Wuv Wuvers Need a Spark of Hope

in WvW

Posted by: Nabrok.9023

Nabrok.9023

Essentially, there are two things that need to happen in order to rejuvenate wvw: 1) they need to find a way to make the match-ups competitive for each server—primarily a population/player base issue. 2) they have to figure out how to bring variety to the competition—this means a full re-work of the match-up system and ranking system.

Those are mutually exclusive goals. You can’t have variety and always have balanced matches.

Balanced matches are always going to be against the servers that are closest to you, which means the same servers all the time unless a lot of guilds suddenly move to or leave one of them.

So, what anet has done … and I think this is quite clever … is split WvW into in-season and off-season.

In-season we get variety, this is when you get a chance to fight against the servers that are usually in the tier above or the tier below.

Off-season we get the generally static, as balanced-as-it’s-gonna-get matches.

There is nothing anet can do to evenly distribute the player base across all the servers. The best they can do is what they’re doing, make it tricky/expensive to transfer to the higher tiers. It’s human nature to clump up. From server selection, to actual gameplay it’s just the way it’s going to work out.

Getting up to the diving goggles, that’s a jumping puzzle. Anything else just moving around the zone, that’s just jumping. There’s no puzzle. They are not difficult jumps, all you need to do is press 1 and move forward at the same time. The aspects are right next to the part you use it at.

Ok, I got to the chest, & meandered around – I assumed you couldn’t get to the goggles without the aspect. CAN you jump to it? Everything I’ve seen says you need the air aspect.

You do need an air aspect, pick up the one just before the top, jump up onto the big beam at the top, then into the middle of the sail, from there you can get to the top of one of the upright beams and from there onto the platform.

I personally struggle with JP because of MS, but I always manage to do them when I need a break from the normal content. However I tend to agree – jumping puzzles have their place.
I am personally disappointed that instead of real zone with good MMO content we got a small zone devoted to a giant jumping puzzle. This zone Feels more like a console game not a world class MMO.

People are forgetting we have a two-week release cycle. What we see now is not the entire zone. More will be revealed with future episodes. Some people have already managed to break into parts of the map they’re not supposed to be in yet.

Also, people seem to be confusing jumping with a jumping puzzle. There’s one jumping puzzle, it’s quite tricky but not the hardest one in the game, and it takes up a very small part of the area.

Didn’t forget the release cycle – don’t really care since in this case its irrelevant. Its a giant jumping puzzle – its using a gimmick crystal that we are told by the NPC will die out soon because it was destroyed in an explosion- so in a game that pushes living world content – what do we do when the crystals die out – or was that all just idle chatter that meant nothing to the games living story.

You misunderstood the NPC. When you pick up the crystal it only lasts for a short time, as opposed to when you picked them up in the labyrinth and they lasted until they ran out of charges. That was just a bit of dialog to explain the different behavior.

Getting up to the diving goggles, that’s a jumping puzzle. Anything else just moving around the zone, that’s just jumping. There’s no puzzle. They are not difficult jumps, all you need to do is press 1 and move forward at the same time. The aspects are right next to the part you use it at.

The easiest and best solution though that should work for everybody is to just not add the jumping puzzle to the main content or story. Have it like every other map where you have to venture off to a remote area to partake in the jumping puzzle. Nobody should be against something like this; if anything, they’d have reason to make the JP ridiculously harder than this one currently is.

This way, nobody should feel restricted in partaking in the actual story. If someone complains they don’t like questing/fighting in an MMO and would rather jump around like Super Mario as part of the main story line, then an MMO is not for them. Jumping puzzles were fine as they were, optional content away from the main story line void of map completion. Yes I am aware this new map isn’t needed for map completion, but apparently if you wan’t to progress the story it’s needed.

Agreed and I hope that Anet goes back to this in the next region. The aspects are ok, if really annoying for some, as a one-off but not as a regular thing.

What do you consider a jumping puzzle?

A puzzle that requires jumping to solve?

Having pointed out the obvious, the main concern is that it’s required to complete the storyline. Now it can be done without aspects (which I just discovered) which is good. However not treating it like all other jumping puzzles, i.e. a totally optional part of the map, could make it kitten those that don’t really like jumping puzzles, yet want to complete all achievements. Like the abundance of aspect use needed in this map, I’m hopeful that both are just due to the challenges that Anet wanted to give the players in this region and that the next map/region will be more “traditional.”

For me I like jumping puzzles so either way I’m ok.

The jumping puzzle is not required to complete the story.

Or are you talking about the little bit of jumping needed on the boss fight?

There’s aspects on this map because it makes contextual sense. This is where the zephyrite ship crashed and their aspects are scattered all over the area. Also, we’re not done with this map. It’s quite a bit bigger than what we’ve seen and more of it will be uncovered in future episodes.

well there are story achievements (hardcore) and zone achievements (casuals)

Several of the zone achievements are rather hard such as the JP and the diving one.

The JP zone achievement is tricky, but one of the story achievements is to do it without the benefit of wind aspects. I managed to get to where the second aspect would have been, but couldn’t figure out how to get any higher.

It is entirely optional and not required to advance the story. There are some regional achievements tied to it, and once you unlock the living story achievements there’s another two related to it in there, but none of that is required.

Jumping Feedback Thread

in Living World

Nabrok.9023

Ok so the last post was infracted as it criticised the new LS2 jump puzzle area.

Not all of us want to play a platform jumping game. As I’m a little older than average, perhaps this sort of leaping about (the sort a 6 year old might enjoy endlessly) gets tiresome really fast.

And once again the mobs, etc drop nothing, all rewards are tied to event completion, which I consider a step backwards.

The entrance quest seems designed for zerk warriors/guards, and the tedious mumblings of the NPCs add nothing, especially as you can’t skip through them to some action. Again, nothing drops from the mobs, and the boss mob spawns lots of little adds that are very easy for a zerk warrior to use stability and wipe them but not so much fun on more balanced builds.

Hopefully LS2 will progress past Jump Puzzle 2 and contain some actual content that doesn’t involve using crystals to jump about and mobs that drop nothing.

Guess the feedback from the completely dead Pavilion didn’t reach them in time…

Well, first, I’m 40 years old and I like jumping puzzles. Secondly, who says you have to do it? It’s optional. Everything is optional. Do what you want, don’t do what you don’t want.

Here’s the thing you need to remember … achievements are a guide to things that you can do, not a list of things that you must do.

Not sure what you’re talking about with the mobs not dropping loot, they most certainly do.

I had no problem doing the 3 quests on a celestial/zerker ranger, there were a few parts where I thought of ways to adjust my build to make it easier on subsequent run throughs but even-so it was very complete-able without adjustment to my standard build. You certainly do not require a zerker warrior/guardian.

underwater stacking problems

I despise underwater combat.

That’s neither here nor there. This isn’t about underwater combat, it’s about what happens to your stacks just travelling through water whether you fight or not.

This happens because players kept exploiting the stacks with fighting underwater monsters with a aquatic sigil weapon and going back to land with a +dmg digil.

I know why it was done, I’m just saying the solution they came up with sucks, especially as it’s very difficult to ensure that you don’t drop below the surface even if there’s only a very slight drop into the water.

Avascar gave a valid tip that some people might not actually know. Maybe you should calm down a little?

Another method to change chat channel, you can click where is says map (or whatever your current channel is) and it’ll list all of them and you can select from there. It will also list the last several people to whisper you.

So let me get this straight.

It would have been easier and more cost effective for them if they left the content. They wouldn’t have to use manpower to put it back in the game then.

Did you actually play any of it? It wouldn’t have worked. Let’s take one of the bits that was left in for a long time, Scarlet Invasions. Ever try one towards the end of season 1? Heck, I never even saw one reach the final stage after they changed the order things spawned in.

Toxic spore events are still in the game, when was the last time you saw anybody doing one? I finished one in Queensdale a week or two ago but it’s rare.

A lot of the content was designed for large numbers of people to do at the same time over a short time period. Leaving it in the game wouldn’t work as there would never be enough people to do it, and it will require some major redesign before they bring it back in a similar format to how season 2 will be.

underwater stacking problems

Have we heard anything on if this is going to be fixed or not?

Getting tired of losing my stacks every time I drop underwater. If it’s not going to be fixed soon I’m going to have to bite the bullet and buy a second sigil for an underwater weapon.

This is a really big problem on WvW border maps.

Suggestion: Favorite builds button

in PvP

Nabrok.9023

The load should have the following include options:

  • Traits
  • Skills (this should probably also include class specific features such as ranger pets)
  • Weapons
  • Armor
  • Trinkets

That way you can mix and match builds. For example I might want the traits from one build, but not the armor. These would all default to on, as I think most of the time you’d want that, but not always.

For matching weapons, armor, and trinkets it should have fallbacks (in order):

  • Match on stats, upgrade, infusion, skin (I suppose some people might have identical weapons with different skins)
  • Match on stats, upgrade, infusion
  • Match on stats and upgrade
  • Match on stats only
  • Any item of the right type, if one is already equiped keep that one, otherwise highest level/rarity.

Saving color schemes would be nice, but I think that should be a separate system from saving builds and could be applied regardless of what class you are.

Are Spinal Blades account bound now?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nabrok.9023

Nabrok.9023

All ascended equipment is now account-bound. If you did not upgrade your spinal blades to the ascended level then it will not be account-bound (but will become so if you upgrade it).

However, you do have all of the skins up to the level you upgraded it to unlocked in your wardrobe and can apply those on any character.

Random Finisher

I have a few finishers now, in addition to my PvP rank ones. It would be nice if there was an option to use a random finisher from those available.

Perhaps you could even have checkboxes on each one for if you want to use it or not.

How about cloaks!?

I am having a hard time deciding on what back skin to use on my new asura warrior. I’m using full vigil armor, and I think a cloak would go perfectly with it, but for now I just have the back item hidden.

I don’t really get… Why do you care about armour if 90% of your char’s body will always be hidden by cloaks/capes for 90% of your game time?

Vigil armor has a kind of roman look about it, so I just think it would fit.

In my opinion, leveling is not fun

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Nabrok.9023

I enjoy leveling up with different classes, but that said I’ve made two “instant 80s” already.

The first was my mesmer because we needed more mesmers in WvW so I made one quickly.

The second was another warrior (already leveled one up) because I wanted to have one with WvW gear/spec and another setup for PvE.

A level 20 scroll (from birthdays or achievements) and 60 tomes of knowledge (easily available through PvP now) is all you need.

No, please. GW2 is not a f2p korean mmo.

Because of course a Western B2P MMO needs capes, more capes and only capes! /sarcasm

And as I know I couldn’t care less for capes, I’ll make sure to post in any new capes thread that we don’t need capes.

OP: There’s been a thread with nice examples – https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Suggest-new-set-of-wings-angel-devil-etc/ – and unfortunately it suffered from the same “But we’re ’mericans!” syndrome.

Even with the home instance, race is meaningless as you can enter the home instance in any city.

Unranked Queue!

in PvP

Posted by: Nabrok.9023

Nabrok.9023

Please for the love of god, put a rank limit on ranked solo queue. No ranked queues before rank 30.

Remove hotjoin, or make the rewards even smaller.

Add a casual unranked queue which you can play in solo or with a party but uses a hidden MMR.

30 is ridiculous. I do think that ranked matches should not be a players first matches, so I’d agree with a small cap of at most 10.

That’s plenty of time to get an idea of the basics (map layout and mechanics, how a build works).

Solo queue only, or solo queuing into team queue. If I want to take a new player into team queue with me, that’s my business.

Is Balthazar track permanent?

in PvP

Posted by: Nabrok.9023

Nabrok.9023

It’s non-repeatable obviously, but is it permanent?

There’s nothing in the patch notes to indicate that it’s temporary. Also in the blog posts it does mention that there will be temporary tracks, but it doesn’t say if Balthazar is one of those.

Some of my guild mates think it is, others think it isn’t.

Mad Memoires: Complete Editon Wardrobe Bug

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Nabrok.9023

No, you needed to complete the quests. You could have opted not to accept the reward, and gone on to finish the other quests. You could have destroyed the first edition, and gone on to complete the other quests. You did not need the first edition in your possession or inventory to obtain the second edition.

Again, progression applies to items used in recipes.

That’s not true. You did in fact need Mad Memoires to make the Mad Memoires: Complete Edition.

Having the complete version should unlock the lesser version(s).

Perhaps, but it was non-destructive. You still had the earlier version after the complete edition.

No. That isn’t true. I remember fairly clearly that you did need Mad Memoires to get the Mad Memoires: Complete Edition.

It was an item progression. I have Dulfy and the wiki telling me the same. Anet can determine what’s what. We’ll be abiding by that.

I’ve no interest in arguing the point any further than I already have. I reckon it’s a bug. If it’s not, well, that’s that.

I guarantee you that it was non-destructive as I kept both versions, and have both unlocked in my wardrobe.

Upcoming Llama Finisher

Funny!! I have to admit that out in WvW, I’ve laughed many times when I’ve seen a finisher take me out. I hate to admit it, but I actually chased a player who had the quaggan finisher and fought half-heartedly just to have another look at it! How can you be angry for losing a fight when you get something that funny? Also like the golem and minstrel finisher.

Thanks for the preview!

Yes, I’m always a bit disappointed when somebody finishes me with just the basic spike. At least equip the rabbit.
