If you die alot, I’d say sigil of earth and sigil of battle.

These don’t work together very well. When any sigil is on a cooldown, any other sigil with a cooldown will not function. That means when you trigger the Sigil of Battle then the Sigil of Earth will not function for 9s. It also means when you trigger Sigil of Earth then the Sigil of Battle will not function for 2s, which could very well be when you swapped.

That’s not true. That only applies to the same type of sigil, you cannot use 2 swap sigils etc.

dont agree about the bomb suggestion, freeze bomb wouldnt be a good idea. a melee kit needs a way to prevent damage and the blind plus stealth blast finisher is perfect for that. also the bomb kit has movement control via glue bomb and you can use other abilities from rifle/pistol/other kits for movement control.

FT needs to be fixed. the burn on the last hit misses too often thus damage is wasted.

pistol should actually do an AOE bleed like stated in the tooltip.

FT should burn on every hit like a kitten flamethrower does….

Dunno why you posted all this stuff. I made a post addressing this very thing in the “how to counter a ranger” thread.

If classes are forced to bring builds and abilities that are sub-optimal for fighting the other 7 classes in an attempt to have a CHANCE at beating a trap ranger it means ONE thing.

Rangers are overpowered.

But hey, thanks for spending a large amount of time trying to prevent a nerf to a build that obviously needs one. Peace.

^ That’s this thread in a nutshell.

It still blows my mind how the perception of rangers has gone from them being seen as an underpowered laughable class to now this scary overpowered class when next to nothing has really changed (especially for trap rangers).

The only thing that has really changed for rangers is that A) Java started running rangers mainly because he just wanted to try something new to keep things interesting and rangers main Achilles heel happens to come from skills/abilities that aren’t popular in the current meta.

I mean, rangers themselves don’t do anything really much better than anyone else. They don’t have amazing dps, they can’t bunker like other classes, but they just happen to be the right kind of mediocre to shine in the stagnant meta game that GW2 has created.

To be fair vyndetta never gave his opinion on whether he finds it op or not. He’s just giving people a way to “DEAL WITH IT”.

I would like Gadgets to have passives, whether they are just static stats or passives that interact with Kits and/or Turrets somehow.

PBR is an awesome Gadget but it needs its CD lowered.
Slick Shoes is pretty good but could use some work on its animation and sometimes it seems like it doesn’t work.
Goggles are a solid gadget but I also agree that 1) There needs to be a hard counter to stealth 2) UG should be our hard counter.
I have rarely used mine, it is awesome for knocking ppl off walls and cliffs though.

FYI – The Slick Shoes TB skill will make you run faster than just swiftness while you are in combat but out of combat the speed will be the same. I noticed this awhile back running the Karma train in Orr I could outrun everyone around me while we were still in combat but as soon as we popped out I slowed down to everyone elses speed.

I kittening love slick shoes TB, chilled and crippled? No problem.

I mostly agree.
But why adding vulnerability to goggles? We got lota of serious options for stacking it. 100nades stacks 25 vulnerabilit in no time.

The CD on slickshoes should be lower.

Maybe a bit more damage for mines, or an extra mine?

For diversity of course. Not everyone plays with nades.

This, what if i want to stack vuln without nades.
At the moment we basically cant do any damage without atleast one of our kits which I find pretty stupid.

The only thing i think gadgets need to be viable is passive effects. Every class has passive effects via signets and the effects in our gadgets are quite similar to the effects of activated signets in other professions.

Maybe something in the lines of:
Rocketboots – +25% movement speed
Slickshoes – Imune to the next control effect(30 to 40 sec cooldown)
Utility Goggles – Improved Precision(Like the Warrior signet)
Throw Mine – 15-20% chance to cause an explosion when you are hit in melee(20-30 sec CD, explosion removes a boon)
Personal Battering Ram – Improved Power

This is a great idea. I support this. atm there is 0 reason to use 1 of the 3 precious utility slots we have for a gadget.

I would suggest it providing stability which would finally give Engineer a consistent source of stability as opposed to having to depend on RNG to get it. The problem is I can’t help but feel that would be somewhat broken unless you put a relatively long cooldown on it or somewhat of a waste if you need to go into medkit for other reasons besides the stability.

Protection or Aegis would probably be better as a refinement triggered boon than perhaps Stability

protection would make sense.

As all of us engineers know our gadgets are quite underwhelming (so is our turrets but that’s for another thread)

Personal Battering Ram – Make it a cone-like attack hitting up to 3 opponents, and also increase the range to 400.

Rocket Boots – Since this skill basically stuns you for a good 2-3 seconds it’s basically useless right now. So to combat this I would make the skill do a AOE knock down all around it (like thumper turret)

Slick shoes – Fine how it is

Throw Mine- I don’t really have any ideas for this one, don’t really like this skill at all.

Utility Goggles – Every hit while utility goggles is active now causes vulnerability

If anyone has more suggestions feel free to share them.

Love the Rocket Boots idea, as it would actually provide a use that a kit can’t fulfill. Which brings me to your Battering Ram suggestion, why wouldn’t you just bring FT, as the knockback is pretty much this, will most likely have a shorter CD and brings other skills with while still only occupying 1 slot.

flamethrower isnt really a knockdown , its more of a push.

Hammer Heal as a counter and then you get thrashed by Thieves cause baiting your shouts are so easy. That counter is out of the question honestly.

Better yet, I’d like to see how PZ makes that work. Oh wait, it won’t. Shouts are underpowered in tPvP.

Better question is how do you counter a zoo keeper?

You can do the same thing with elixir gun 4 when you’re using it offensively, except you have to press ~ (weapon swap button) instead. Sometimes you want to stay in range after the acid bomb.

I think it’s a matter of the players drinking some coffee and grinding out new builds. Take trap ranger its been there since day 1. People just figured it out.

I said this in another thread, but it rings true here as well. It’s hard to grind out new builds when some utilities are just completely inferior in every way shape and form. I can’t vouch for a lot of other profs, as I pretty much only play one, but turrets/gadgets are for the most part completely useless for Engineers. The only reason to make a gadget build (and believe me, I’ve tried) is simply for the sake of making it to be a precious and unique snowflake. A very ineffective snowflake, but unique none the less

Slick shoes is the only decent gadget.

The wiki doesn’t appear to list anything that would indicate a condition removal at all on the Flamethrower Kit Refinement.

Would be awesome if it did though.

I don’t think we should have a remove condition on healing kit, for the simple reason that we already have two on EG and FT refinement effect.

Hmmm, a little confused here. I thought the Flamethrower Kit Refinement just does an AoE burn but doesn’t remove conditions. :o

I just figured that either a ‘Heal’ or ‘Cleanse’ would be a much better option for Med Kit Refinement instead of some random explosion that deals pitiful damage. At least it would fit the theme much better in my humble opinion.

It’s very easy to dodge grenades if you are actually throwing them at a decent range, but this build prefers to play just outside melee range. You are pretty much throwing them at your feet, negating the slow projectile speed. I’m not really in favor one way or another of grenades needing an accuracy boost, but in this specific situation it’s not really needed. The main combo revolves around closing in with Pistol attacks into a Blowtorch, Geomancy proc, and Shrapnel Grenades chucked at your opponents feet.

If you can avoid Glue and Freeze Nades though and play a kiting game the Grenade and Geomancy damage is negated. In most cases though kiting damage is low enough to be beaten by pure Pistols with Incendiary Powder procs. This is however one of the core weaknesses, that and it’s easy to disengage from as long as you do it before you will die to delayed damage.

As to the what you discussed, what suggested variations would you make to make it better in a dueling situation?

I would actually replace the elixir B with elixir gun but that’s just me. Elixir gun is sweet in 1v1s.

Sigils: You need to make sure you get 3 ticks of burning on your ‘incendiary powder’ trait. You can achieve this either by 4 nightmare, 2 lyssa, or 6 nightmare, and sigil of smouldering (burn incr).

Nightmare actually gives +20% total duration, the tool tip lies. Regardless, the advice here is solid. Hiba / Massacre Mode / leashmaygoose has a lot of refinements to it that work very, very well. In particular, Geomancy is borderline overpowered given you have a single kit and can intentionally proc it with little practice.

A mere two globals (Blowtorch, Grenade Kit Swap – Geomancy, Shrapnel Grenade) average 2.5k direct-dmg accompanied by 1.5k condi-dmg per second pressure followed up. If it was all uncleansed that’d end up being over 20k damage by the time the conditions expired. It’s a literal condi-burst build, and that doesn’t count the rest of the what the Engi has to apply on top of that. Incendiary Powder’s burn applies constant pressure no matter what you are doing. Our condis are very well protected due to the sheer variety of condis we push out and the vast majority our damage happens to be AoE. It’s only real weakness is being weak to pressure, but it does have Elixir S.

Whomever said the Grenade Kit in a condi build isn’t for 1v1 fights is silly since Shrapnel Grenade – Geomancy swaps are the secret ingredient to supplementing the Burn damage. It has the obvious 1vMany advantages as well, which this build is absolutely amazing at. It’s not a rare thing to win 1v3 fights against people in hotjoin for example. You wont’ do that in tPvP by any means, but in tPvP it specializes in ripping apart many of the common meta builds such as D/D Valk Ele’s.

Personally I’m running Explosives (V, X, VI), Firearms (VI), and Alchemy (II, X, XI) with a Rabid Amulet and Rampager Jewel. It’s not as much damage as Rampager’s (due to the direct-dmg loss and small chunk of crit lost, but it makes up a bunch with the extra condi-dmg), but it has a lot more survival with a decent base health pool and 2.5k armor.

It’s not bad for 1v1s but it’s not the best if you ask me. It’s VERY easy to dodge grenades in 1v1s, it’s like watching flying stars at night. I wish grenade kit projectile speed was increased like rangers.

I’m not doubting the effectiveness of the build, but I have some questions:

—What does it mean to “counter multi-ele”? Bring them down in a teamfight? 1v1 them on a point?
—Why does taking multiple engineers help? One engi reapplies burn constantly already, so the second engi would add maybe six stacks of bleeding and two stacks of confusion?
—Condi engies have no cc or chase ability. In a 1v1, can a condi engi really do more than take an ele down to 1/3 health and watch them RTL away? Or is this build more for laying on conditions while your teammates try to lock the ele down?
—I know that elixir gun is very effective vs. eles—I imagine we are talking about grenades as the second kit, and a stunbreak? Why are people mentioning flamethrower?
—The concerns Ostricheggs raises seem very important. For every situation that a condi engi would do well, it seems there are two they would do poorly. Are there any ways to “hybrid” this, or is it basically just a counter-pick to the current cheese comp/strategy?

Gameplay questions, not build questions. I understand how a condi engi works, I’m just wondering what specifically countering eles means.

When hiba says countering it really means a way to “deal” with them. There isn’t really a straight up rock paper scissor like counter in this game for anything.

so most of u in here are either saying class is op or defending class but neither is what this post is about.

fact is ranger and ele are getting nerfed.

fact is they nerfed thief and mesmer so hard it made other classes way more viable.

fact is after they nerf ele and ranger then engi is going to be super op. then they will nerf them because there will be multiple of them in every game.

so i just suggest 1 class per team in paids for a bit and lets see how it goes for a bit. if its bad then take it out.

after i made this post i was informed about LOL and they use that. so if a Esport game does it then we at least should try.

If there is something to get out of this thread, it’s that engis should definitely be nerfed.

In a 1v1 situation you usually already lost 1/2 of your health trying to down the pet.

Rofl, I’m still laughing that it took everyone so long to realize the power of Bunker/Trap Rangers in SPvP

Err ive been saying this like 4 months ago and no one listened. Even posted my ranger build that everyone ignores and look where we are now.

there were top teams running these for a long time but there was still variety now this is all u can do and newmoney used to dominate with this.

Trap Rangers really haven’t changed since beta, I honestly would be seriously surprised if there wasn’t one ran in TPvP at some point. It’s always been really good for SPvP.

The Bunker builds though, Those didn’t start showing up till after the Shortbow nerf and people started adapting to the change, I mean….If you can find someone running the 0/0/30/10/30 build with Shamans before that, I’d love to see it..Because from what i’ve seen, I was the first one to adopt the setup (and run the melee weapons)…

This build I run eats eles. But I haven’t had 3 engis run it all at once so who knows.

Not to be a downer, or a huge critic – but I can assure you that there are many ways for you to get more out of this build.

Kit refinement over speedy kits – with EG, you’re getting a condi removal and heal every 20s on swap, and a condi removal when you swap to FT as well, aoe burn, too.

To get the constant speed from losing speedy kits, you can sacrifice a small 30% to bleed and get 6/6 centaur, for perma swiftness by using medkit. Or use infused precision in firearms.

Also, traiting a 12s reduction for Elixir S alone, when you could get protection injection, perma vigor, or Elixir S @ 25%? Dat kitten crazy.

I DIDNT ASK YOU FIVE GAUGE I LIKE MY BUILD HOW IT IS.

But seriously, i prefer healing turret in this build because I find medkit has too much of a “stop time” when you try to heal with it. You get the most damage out of the build when you are constantly using your channeling skills (FT 1 + elixir gun 3 hits like a truck)

But yes I see your point, I’ll give it a try and see how it is, I just feel that bleed is kittening pain in the anus to apply with engi without condi duration (with the exception of grenade kit)

I dont know why Java was even invited to the state of game. He clearly has no idea how to play the game. A random PUG from EU could had done a better job.

1) Trolls Urgent over Healing Spring (See Point 3)

2) Sharpen Edges is not worth the trait point. Its 1 stack of bleed for 1 second only.

3) Shared Anguish over Vigorous Renewal (Pair it with Healing Spring for nearly 100% Vigor uptime)

3) Hide In Plain Sight over Off-Hand Training. Hide In Plain Sight is quite a useless skill, and torch is useless without Off-Hand Training. With Off-Hand Training trait, torch becomes one of the most powerful ranger weapons.

4) Trap Rangers are useless against current meta. Most teams run at least 2 eles. 3 eles are most common. You think that a trap ranger can do any condition damage against 3 eles?

5) Rabid Amulet over Shaman. Using Healing Spring with Vigorous Renewal and Shaman Amulet = OP Tank

6) Beastmaster Bunker Ranger is better build. It gives you better burst, more sustained damage, more tankablity while you are able to support other points by sending pet (Example send pet mid from side point to change Guardain VS Guardain to Guardain + Jaguar VS 1 Guardain)

it seems people don’t even understand what’s too strong on rangers currently, but sure go ahead and nerf traps – so the fotm guys will leave to a different class.

I never said nerf traps lol, I just want turrets to be close or same level as traps.

Turrets are basically traps in a sense and it doesn’t seem one bit fair that if ours explode we are left defenseless for 30-60 seconds don’t you think?

Turrets will actually “reset” on bar after a few minutes of activity, which, I know, isn’t what you meant, but there is a cooldown there as well its just really, really long (or bugged) and you can place back-to-back turrets even if you detonate them.

You cant do back to back turrets..
Not to mention traps CD is ridiculously low as it is they have the best design in terms of cool down. Turrets dont have a CD decrease trait, and some of them are 60 second cooldown, not to mention all their garbage tool belt skills are strangely really high cool down as well (thumper turret tool belt skill 90 second CD wth?)
